You are great at explaining and really know your stuff! Thanks a million times!
Sorry to hear about your accidents. I ruptured my right quad tendon December 2008 after slipping on ice in upstate NY after attending a Christmas party that I didn’t want to attend. March of this year I am at work and I slipped in the stairwell and ruptured my left quad tendon and fractured my patella. I am still not working and my left quad is still weak but getting better. Good luck.
I had a rupture in my left Achilles about 18 months ago playing basketball. This week in the same leg I felt like I had a strain, I’m so glad I found this i was going to do the opposite of almost everything she suggested!
And also the video helped me a lot and gave me a lot of information I hope you make more of those and I will follow and subscribe and like and share… Thanks s lotttttt
I didnt kick anything and I was just laying on my chest and throw my leg to my butt kinda and then I felt some annoying thing in my leg a knew it’s a strain *first degree….
And I applied a bandage on that like elastic circular one ( like one leg shorts kinda ) and I m elevating it… While my other just recovered from vmo strain… How ironic… I don’t feel sharp pain tho and I can move fully move it…. And I can’t still actually do one leg squats I m just avoiding the movement and I feel like the area is burning a bit which it normal
Very good video. Was hiking last month, slipped on ice, tore quad off patella. Anyway it’s been exactly 4 weeks from surgery. Able to straighten my leg, bend 111 deg now. Recovery is going well. Hope to start some strengthening soon. Again thanks for the video, now I can see how they re-attached it.
I ruptured part of my quad on my left quad 1st to 2nd degree and for some reason I don’t need surgery. Why???
I ruptured my right quad 3rd degree 3 years ago and I didn’t get surgery due to no insurance. But, now the doc wants to do something about it, I don’t know if I can trust the guy. I feel I need surgery for my left quad but he says he’s reluctant to do it because I don’t need it but how the hell am I supposed to play full Field if the tendon doesn’t close??? My right quad is a mess so should I just say forget it to all sports now?
Yes probably. It is also worthwhile doing some stretching and getting some sports massage
I can’t touch it but I use the rubbing cream on it. It worked well but it burned like fire
Mine right now hurts if I move it to fast or walk on it at all
how surgery will help? can we attach that ruptured part to it’s original place but there will be tendon.. how is that possible?
I dont use ice or antiinflammatory drugs anymore. It doesn’t make sense to.
I pulled this sprinting, if I wanted to return to squatting would that require more or less rest than returning to sprinting
Greetings Dr., about two months ago I was playing soccer and as far as I can understand, I suffered a rectus femorus rupture. I know this by internet help, but I think I have healed in an abnormal way due to an abnormal protuberance coming out of my leg near the center of the quad and I’m having deep back and frontal knee pain. Can surgery still be performed? The reason why I ask is because I’m waiting for my insurance to cover me and then I can proceed with MRI/Ct scans. Thank you
Yes most exercises can be performed everyday, as long as there are no side effects or pain following the exercises
so i got kneed in my thigh a month ago,and about a week ago while walking (perfectly) i suddenly couldnt bend my knee due to the muscles in my thigh now i dont feel its getting any better i cant even put pressure on it, what do i do?
no need to justify yourself man, this is america and your not breaking any laws. myself 1 arthroscopic and 2 reconstructive on my left knee. thanks, 2 years later
Am I the only one here because I actually pulled my leg muscle..
My problem was not on my quadriceps but on my Pc. Major… I had a rupture of the tendon 2 years ago, made a surgery to reinsert the tendon on the bone and now i had a rupture of the muscle, the tendon is on the place.
What can i do now? Another surgery or just fysiotherapy?
I tore mine this summer. I’ve been through a lot of injuries. NOTHING hurts like this hurts.
If you’ve pulled a muscle, and then start to stretch it through exercise you WILL feel pain. According to this you must stop doing the exercise immediately. Rather pointless advice.
Most of this is over-generalized BS. If you’re 18, maybe you can do that stretch but not if you’re over 50. Not very helpful.
Then boobs will tear her back muscles. Those are some knockers
idk what i did but my thigh hurts i don’t play sports and i can’t move my legs or walk
Tara has some really great advice! In conjunction with her advice, using medicinal herbal massage oils can really help accelerate the healing process of pulled muscles. Arnica oil is amazing at healing pulled muscles in a short amount of time. It does this by reducing inflammation and swelling along with taking the shock out of an injury. When you do this, it allows your body to relax and use its energy to heal. I use Arnica oil from @t. These oils are high quality and very effective. They also have an array of other medicinal oils for other types of injuries. Ive found that using herbal oils in conjunction with physical therapy, really heals the root of the problem and actually strengthens the body back to a place of health. Rather than mostly healing and having a little issue for a while (or the rest of your life, i.e with a sprained ankle) It helps actually completely heal the issue so you’re back to your strong self!
i think i pulled my muscle. I hurt it by doing a split and I have done some before but maybe something went wrong during this one. My upper thigh hurts and it hurts to lift my leg up high, do gymnastics, run and bend down far. It has been 20 days and I only started putting ice on it on the 12th day. Should I see a doctor?
I play football i be pullin muscles n shit. They can both help me. I wouldn’t mind ;). I would have some fun.
I didn’t stretch and did the hurdles and 3 races and it hurts so bad!!!
I just tore mine a few weeks ago. im 19. Worst pain ive ever felt.
Hey so about 3 weeks ago I was in pe at school and we did a warm up before the lesson, but I didn’t do any stretches and as soon as I went to run I got a really sharp pain in my thigh I asked to sit out but wasn’t aloud it felt like my leg was bleeding as soon as the lesson end I checked my thigh and it looked fine. Couple of days later I thought it was fine because it wasn’t hurting to walk so I did pe and it hurts straight away! It doesn’t hurt me to walk but I’m in pain to run its not agony but yano have I got a thigh sprain? Reply asap please…
My muscle isnt the only thing that i pulled. If you know what im talking about.

i just learned my dance solo at my studio for lik 5 hours yesterday, and my abs hurt, my butt hurts, and my legs hurt all over
I injured my quads in the summer playing ball. I recently (September) joined roller derby. My quads get tired very fast and take DAYS to get over pain..I have issues going up stairs. Will this help?
So you never watch any video or looked at a picture because of someone looks. Are you jealous?
PT is dumb i mean american health care is just dumb slow fat retarded.
How come the sports orthopedic told me I never needed surgery so therapy was involved and now both my quads look like shit???
YOU’RE A SKILLED PHYSICAL THERAPIST! I’M SEEKING YOUR ADVICE BY WATCHING THIS DAMN VIDEO!!
Great video, well worth the watch. I was out of the gym for months due to COVID and lost a lot of strength and muscle. I began in an intense gym programme last week and suffered significant quad pain barely being able to walk, never mind the stairs! I didn’t realise the importance of resting and the science behind a quad tear. Really helpful vid, I’m beginning to finally feel better. Thank you!
i pulled my muscle in mixed martial arts. i pulled it because i did the superman punch with out stretching, i don’t know of you know what the superman punch is but, you video really helped and thank you
I injured the top muscle of my thigh at the front during soccer training in october 2010. This happened when i kicked the ball and i didnt do warm up and it was my first time playing football for about 3 months. My mum is a nurse and she said ” theres no need to go see a doctor, just apply cream to it” during during the 15th of december 2010 i played soccer but i didnt feel much pain. Now, january 17th 2011 i can still feel pain when kicking a ball. But when kicking something light for example
Great content! I’m going through my Orthopaedics rotation now and your videos are great and to the point. Thank you!
I tore my left quad tendon while playing hockey. I crashed into the end boards and both of my legs buckled underneath. I then fell coming down the stairs at home and tore the one on my right knee. I had surgery on 9th may 2013 and returned to work on 24th June. Physical therapy has begun and so far so good. I don’t think I will be playing hockey again. I only wish to be able to walk again with confidence and negotiate stairs normally. This has been the worst experience I’ve ever dealt with
What should my re-habilitation be after the majority of the scar tissue has been re-modelled. Also i aggravated the injury yesterday, have i just pulled the scar tissue or have the muscle fibres actually broken away?
I tore mine walking down the stairs at my ambulance station a year ago. Unfortunately, I also damaged my hip and my back. I never had any problem with my quads before. Really good video.
Mine only hurts when I touch it but if I run the first couple of seconds have a little bit of pain but then after that I dont feel the pain anymore is that normal?
Would there be a lump if this happened? I have a weird lump where the muscle should be smooth and tight like my other leg
i have sever pain above the right knee for 7 years ago.how i can contact with you to show you MRI
Rehab should start as soon as pain-free to help remodel the scar tissue. It’s impossible to know what you ay have done yesterday to aggravate the injury it may be another minor tear, hard to know. rest again until pain free
I hurt my muscle at taekwondo and I put ice now I have it again its been 3 months
on 10/21/15, i tore my quadricep tendon I had surgery about a week ago
Would pain above the petalla or just on the patella mean I have torn my quad tendon? Or is this a strain? I have pain going up stairs/down and also sitting down. Sometimes it does feel like a tearing sensation.
ice..check… aspirin…check… stretch…check..$900 bill from a PT when this lady could have gave free advice… check
I am 65 years old. I tore my left quad tendon seven weeks ago when I slipped on some ice here in Fairbanks, Alaska. I’ve never had any kind of knee injury before despite being a very active person (former Army paratrooper, still playing softball, bicycling, hiking in mountainous terrain, etc.) The pain was unbelievable and I had to crawl three hundred feet for help after I fell. Yesterday, after an hour and a half of excruciating effort, I bent my knee 94 degrees which is right where my physical therapist says I should be. Next week, I will be evaluated by the surgeon to determine if I’m ready to put weight on the leg and a new phase of recovery will begin. A “full” recovery is expected to take 9-12 months but at 65, I wonder how much I can get back. A terrifying injury.
Physical therapist here. Just went to the gym and the owner told me his leg gave out while he was walking. Significant pain, could not walk (which is very bad because his other leg is healing from a fracture), and was sitting down at the counter when I came in. He asked me to take a look and he had the cardinal signs listed here. I told him to go to the hospital ASAP but I think he is concerned about costs, being independent (he lives on the second story and can’t go up the stairs, or walk for that matter) so I am at a loss for his future QOL. I hope he gets the help he needs. Great video, very helpful.
Do you ever encounter a quadricep tear brought on by the prescription drug Cipro, or other flouroquinolones?
So doing one simple stretch routine will heal my thigh?
C’mon….surely, there must be other exercises:-)
I have an indentation on the outer side of both of my thighs, almost like a divit but “indentation” would be a better word. There is no pain or anything but I noticed it about a month ago so it’s fairly recent. I also have chronic back pain as I have degerative disc disease in my back-could the issues with my back cause this? Does the indentation ever go away? Looks like someone took a chunk out of my thighs, just looks unsightly.
It is likely to feel tight after a moderate to severe injury so make sure you do lots of stretching, but yes, you can start strengthening as long as it isn’t painful
hi Dr Oster, well i saw this video, and i got a muscle tear on the area of the semitendinosus and the biceps femoral, i was trying stretching 180 on my legs but i lost balance and then aa muscle tear those, well its been two months and now im starting stretching, at beggining it hurt, but now it doesn’t, now i made some exercise to the leg, and after i finished and my body get cold, i noticed some strange pain, like if i got hit there or like a little cramp, is that normal Dr?
Merlins beard! You read my mind, I found this video a few weeks after the strain lol
i got a quadriceps tendon tear when i was play softball and running back to the base but got tagged hardly and caused the tear
What if you tear a portion of the tendon and the orthopedic says no surgery is needed. Is there correct?? Even if I feel a little bulge is accumulated?
