When going to hike in altitude, I start 10-12 weeks out. I like to build yourself up 1 kg extra each week to the point I’m carrying a heavier pack in training than when I arrive there. It will be hard enough on your muscles esp with the effect of altitude or if you get injured or exhausted so train with more weight now. And, the best training for hills is hills so get out and get walking. With weight if you use a litre bottle that weighs 1 kilo so its easy to add these up and quickly work out what you are lumping. I do that 3 times in a week before adding more weigh to get used to it. Enjoy!
@globalcyclingnetwork What kind of microphones do you guys use when riding? It’s really clear!
Hi guys. Another amazing video. Thank you.
Ps. What bikes are you you using in this video?
Good Day GCN,I would love to get some training program from you guys since you guys always give some good tips and advice,Here’s my email:[email protected] icloud.com thank you.
I can’t decide if the stump in your living room or the fireplace was my favorite. Hike On
I disagree on one thing you said, thru-hiking isn’t about comfort. I think it is much more comfortable to have feet and a back that don’t hurt because I am not carrying 15 unecessary lbs. Thru-hiking is about realizing what you need to be comfortable and what you don’t need.
More videos, cool! I’ll have to get some popcorn in anticipation of your adventure. ✌️ Yay, mom will be with you!
i have only done a 1500 km ride before but with something as long as 10000, i know the stakes are a lot higher and can use every tip i can get. thanks a lot
Great video and really enjoying your channel. Hiking is my main thing at the moment and have big plans to do trekking and thru hiking in the time ahead. This stuff really helps with training and getting the body right.
Thank you for such an entertaining video! Good luck in 2018! I section hike for now, so hopefully our trails will cross. I am looking forward to following you on your adventure. Thank you for taking us along!
I strongly recommend commuting by bicycle every day. Make sure to find a good route that will be safe and comfortable, convenient regardless of weather, and it’s helpful if it’s scenic since you’re likely to really want to ride.
hello there. i have a dream of doing a 100km ride. i intend to train every day until i am able to do the 100km; increasing distance by the day.
Coffee??? Really? No sugar? Do you understand nutrition?
Carb the fuck up.. On a morning ride like this, eat one or two bananas_ride_then have a big breakfast after (just like every other day)
I haven’t seen your Annapurna videos, I’ll have to check them out. So excited for you. Both of your upcoming trips are going to be amazing!! Looking forward to seeing your adventures. Good luck!
Why are you guys setting a good example and having flashers front and back during the day., Riders are not seen by motorists and its just a matter of time before you are somebody hood ornament
My problem is money for a proper bike. I wanna cycle 2000+ km next year from the Netherlands to Finland, but no money for a damn bike.
I just did 3 days cycling, 100km a day with ease on a shitty bike. I can only imagine riding on a good bike
Did GCN get picked by Scott bikes
There was about 6 different models
Overall I really like your videos! But I have to disagree that training for a long ride, say 5 or 6 hours, can be done but daily and relatively short riding. It has been my experience that you need to have done perhaps several rides no less than 20% or so of your target distance. Regular riding is important but devoting one ride a week to extending your saddle time is critical. So, for a 6 hour ride you should gradually build yourself up to at least 5 hours in the saddle a couple weeks before the ride.
hay! ha,ha, or not…. where are your glasses? Thank you for what your are doing, and safety always first.
Isn’t that the place where Dan did the infamous Blblwblblwbl…?
Great video. I”m hiking in NZ in March too so I’m super keen to see your NZ hike video and see where you go and how you do. All the best with your NZ trip!
what? no sugar in ride? i must take sugar or glucose in every ride i had, if not i feel like wanna fainting. my vision become dark
Thanks for this video. Love the guided workout and clear demonstration of the moves with explanation how to do them safely. Helps me to do it without hesitation.
What happened at 3:21? Seems like the right leg flipped out in a weird way!
Very creative and informative!!! Keep them coming and hope to see you on the trail 2018. Hike on!!!
Would you guys ever consider competing in the Race Across America?
Even when I ride long on my Fat Bike. I don’t go very far…
you’re showing us these 15 minute sweetspot intervals, but in an other video you told us to do 20 [email protected] which one should i use?
Just a question on fasted training. My commute is basically an hr one way, but has over 500m of climbing in it. Would this be too arduous in the fasted training state?
Thanks for the great tips btw!
Great tips.I notice the bikes have disc brakes..Is it sign that discs are starting to become more mainstream even being allowed in racing
How hard should you train before breakfast? Are there any risks of over using your primary fuel sources and breaking down muscle? Ive been training before breakfast so far this year and lately my wife is complaining of a very strong ammonia smell from my gear!!!
Good video GCN:) nice looking bikes, even nicer looking presenters:p
Heading to nice on the bike in the summer. Can you be a bit more specific about the climbs and routes youve been using for your videos?
Glad to know I’m not the only one that put on my rain gear and got in the shower
Hi guys, I like the idea of the pre-breakfast fat burning ride. Just a few questions. How long does it take the body to adapt to burning fat, should you increase the duration of the ride by say 10 minutes a week?
Also is there an optimal fat burning HR/effort level?
I did a 20 minute ftp test this week and my ftp is 210 watts. Can you give me any idea if this is a good number and how I improve, cheers.
Unless you’re on an indoor trainer, how do you build these suggested intervals into a ride? It’s a bit hard when you’re with a group to speed up and slow down, unless everyone is on exactly the same program (unlikely). And what happens if you get to a big hill (like in the vid)? Do you stop and start? I think not. How do you build the local terrain and group rides that are available into your program?
Hey great video can’t wait to see you out on the trail. Love the training tips!
@Global Cycling Network Since 3 weeks I started commuting to work by bike (40km + 40km) two times per week, and I can really feel the difference on the weekend! One thing to keep in mind, is that you need to be organized (I plan everything for the week on sunday) and you need to eat a lot (good eating), or you’ll end up feeling like crap (happend twice to me) especially after 8-9 hours of work… I do not know how long I’ll keep going, riding alone at 7 a.m and 7 p.m trying to maintain a good pace (30-35km/h) is mentally hard.
Great video. I need to start training. I’m planning on hiking in Norway this summer. Thank you for the tips
Just a minute, I’ve always used an upcoming long ride as an excuse to spend more time on my bike… Thanks to this video I now need a new excuse
I NOT FAT SHOULD I JUST GO OUT FOR A RIDE WITHOUT FOOD…..SUGAR? HOW MANY HOURS IF GO WITHOUT SUGAR? OR WITH FOOD
My friend Jon has somehow a more “raw” approach, any comment on it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PX5Uxb5MhE
Are u guys using the SCOTT SOLACE 15 DISC? @Global Cycling Network
I’m trying to cycle a 20 mile route, I can make it 12 miles before I burn out. I cycled to school everyday and college everyday. But since I started working, my bike has not seen the outdoors that much, so I lost so much stamina that I built up. Now I’m trying to get it back
back years ago I would go to our local high schools’ football stadium and walk the 1/4 mile track around the field with a loaded backpack, then walk up and down the stadium steps. later I would “bat” tennis balls with a racket in the squash court
Unrelated, but can you guys do a video/tech of the week segment on the new lezyne gps computers? I think they look really cool, and affordable compared to garmin…
What’s the story with you all riding Scott bikes, is this a new sponsorship deal GCN have?
Superb videos!! I been watching for a year or so now and always so informative for newbies like me. I particularly liked on this video the sweet spot intervals graphic on the right of the screen, it just spent out in laymans language what to do. Thank you so very much for the hard work.
Suddenly everyone in Scott helmets? Shoes? Riding Scott disk-brake road bikes most of the show? Looks like someone has an incognito major sponsor.
One oft overlooked necessary skill set is… ‘Trail Ediquete’… or how not to act when on the trail. .
Well the early morning before breakfast ride won’t work for me because I have no fat to burn. You should do a video on ways to gain muscle mass as a cyclist.
These are some great ideas for training. I do the elliptical sometimes with various speeds and resistances to build the core. I also do a lot of shorter faster hikes with less weight to build up my cardio. I have a channel that shows my progress on training and also reviews some local hikes in SoCal. Check out my channel RobbieGarnz if you want! Thanks!
Do you get the bikes for free/ does scott sponsor you ore did you pay them yourselves?
Good vids so far. Really digging em. Sitting in woods hole shelter catching up on upcoming vloggers. Hike on
I still have to go to school and i play soccer on saterday, so i can only cycle one time a week:(
Hi. I’m in my 40s and starting to get into hiking. I’d love it if maybe you could interview your mom on how SHE prepares for your NZ trek? Like how is it different from the way you work out, how often, etc.
Very good video. I love the Scrabble board. Well thought out and executed.
what’s the song at 0:21, it sounds really cool. The editors usually seem to have good taste 😉
Do you already know which routes you are going to hike in New Zealand?! the south or the north island? three weeks is over very quickly. but definitely worth it. Of course I am jealous of you and look forward to the videos. good luck with training and the anticipation of your journey.
Why be a sissy and rely on expensive super light bikes? Without the tech you are nothing
Would be tremendously interested in getting a couple of different training schedules that I could follow for a couple of months/weeks from you guys…
Congratulations for the polar trip. Does this mean you got all the votes you needed on facebook?
Love it!!!! Can’t wait to see you on the trail. Best wishes for your thru hike!
Dear GCN I’m having a little problem. I have been noticing that every day after I went for a 1.5h ride, I am approximatly 4 km/h slower the day after and i even have troubles climbing the stairs. What can i do to avoid this?
1:25 Dan is sitting in his how to motorboat like a Boss video caption position.
For better sleep prep, I suggest a pointed rock and a root placed under your sleeping pad. Also, I drive up to Ontario every other year, and you had me rolling on the conversion bit…spot on!
How about if you go to school and my school is 2 miles away so it would take me about 4-5 minutes and i am only 12 years of age!!!
What’s deal with the stem? Slammed, but with spacers above the stem. Is that you couldn’t be bothered to cut the fork?
I know what I’m going to be doing when I have reception on the trail catching up on your videos! Really had me laughing. I’m stepping off three weeks before you, but I really hope to see you on the trail.
Hey, that’s a handy bit of work out there. Crazy how it only has 21K+ views. Well done. Looking for more. Thanks.
I’ll usually track anywhere from.10 to.25 I’ll drop and do 20x push ups with pack or vest. Sometimes I’ll add 1-3 exercises per stop such as squats, lunges, planks, I’ll take the best off and do swings or snatches or I’ll switch up variations of push ups such as the Hindu or Spider-Man push up. You can find a log that’s a decent weight for squats or tosses, stuff like that and I’ll do that until I’m done with my targeted amount of KM or miles. It’s a great workout and I do it often because I hate running lol. Cheers!
New Zealand , highly recommended. Watch out for the Katipo, Weka, and Kea. Each island is a different world. Sound advice, thank you
Whats the make/model of the bikes you use? Is it cervelo rca or r5, maybe?
By the way, whats the difference between the r5 and the rca? Anyone?
Thanks!
Come to Brazil! Look up by “serra fina” you will be welcome in my home
Only few knows Trekkers Home in Kathmandu https://www.trekkershome.com, who knows they come back and back
if i ride in a fasted state doesn’t my body use muslce first before it uses fat?
I may have missed it in the video, but…how often do you recommend doing this workout? Like, how many times in a week?
Thank you so much, have been looking for a visual representation for a long time for these workouts!
Great info Gazelle! Thank you. I’m following your footprints starting in a couple of days and heed your advice.
Thanks for the post. I love backpacking and i’m always interested in how others prepare for their adventures. I find that Hemp Freeze cream helps me to manage my muscle pain. Your subscribers should try some if they have muscle pain when hiking. https://bit.ly/ehsshop
What about doing some strength training on the days you can not go out / have not that much time?
A good preparation is allways important!
I’m also working for my Perakûla-hike in May.
Fortunately, I have all the time to enjoy since I have no end date.
Fully enjoy your hike in New Zealand and make great videos.
What bikes are those you lads are riding? Scott what??? They look awesome!
Great idea and routine. Very good, well thought out videos, really enjoy watching and learning. Take care and keep going!
Love watching your channel. I never went hiking but I’ve been camping, but after watching you I think I might have too try.
Great advice today, it might have saved my life. I have a bad habit of pushing too hard and not enjoying the hike. Thanks!
Hi Maiu! Great advice, if you can’t do 50k a day then don’t plan on it! Looking forward to your trip videos! You and your Mom have fun!
FJALLRAVEN POLAR?! You will most certainly needs those “sleeping booties” on that trip. Be safe:-)
Of course Maiu, in many places such as the AC you do not have much choice as to how far you will need to hike due to things like where the tea house is. Get track fit to help you enjoy it otherwise you risk getting too tired, injured or sick and then what? I’m cautious of only thing such as yoga which don’t gain your aerobic endurance. These days I train for both strength (up/down hill) and length (going at least half of what your day will require) which tends to get the job done for me! You will love NZ hiking and Luna the time at home relaxing over some cat videos!
Goodness sake Simon, you told us to slam that stem, but these older videos prove you are a hypocrite! Ridiculous.
OMG, i’m going to be in NZ in march too!.. oh hangon, i’m alway’s in NZ. ;-)… so where are you going & what are you doing?
im planning a 10000 km ride. how do you think i can eat and train for it most effectively? i have approx 1 year before i start.
Hiker in Estonia you and your mum are going to have a mad time hiking in New Zealand and you will encounter some stunning scenery on your adventure and as always we enjoy your videos this one in particular was very informative and very helpful thank you for sharing.
Excellent videos the guys are very entertaining, can we get a subtitle that shows us where they are? some of the vistas are amazing, it would be nice to know where they were
Great video and topic Maiu! I do intervall training all year round and this really help me enjoy both life and hikes even more. My favorite YT-hiker, enjoy Your hike in NZ, quality time with Your Mother and the Fjällräven event i Sweden!
Enjoying your videos and see that you know your limits. At my age 811 Km is my limit any more wouldn’t be enjoyed.
You and your mother are amazing! The physical fitness will come. My biggest thing that i seek to do during training is to build callouses on my feet and find all the hotspots that are caused by my rucksack making contact on my shoulders and back and applying the appropriate padding. My final thing is to make sure I’m good on the type of hydration and nutrition I’m taking in. Your training plan is solid. As long as you know yourself, you have nothing to fear from undertraining or being too lazy. Those breaks help build up you endurance and strength much better than just pounding away daily. Good luck and wishing yall much success on your two trips and please post as many pictures as you can.
Kas sa pole mõlenud kevadel Scoutsrännakule minna, et vaadata kuivõrd efektiivne on sinu programm võrrledes teiste matkajatega? See on 30 km pikkune rännak Pakri poolsaarel, mis tuleb läbida raskusega, mis on umbes võrdne keskmise matkavarustusega.
Great advert for Scott here lads!
I’d bet my last rolo all that gear was supplied free of charge and none of it is bought with personal money:)
P.S. I’d love to know an app you guys use to actually help you with sweet spot training, I have a bluetooth HR monitor and use strava on an android phone, but have no idea on how to track an effort to say what %age effort i’m doing on say a nice 10 mile climb… A video??
This is going to be great watching his videos after I finish my own AT hike starting 19 March 18.
Any tips on helping cure pins and needles in the hands when on long rides?
Hoi Maiu nice to see you back sensible words.. And of course all ways have fun to hiking, great tips for many new hikers. But your not lasy!! Succes with your prepering and training
I am glad I sponsor you on Patreon. Keep enjoying yourself. Cool sweater:)
Great tips Maiu. Sounds like you and mom are going to have a blast.
This is gold. I died when you were in the shower with your backpack..
The amazing Mountains are in South Germany and Iran for Hikers,But I wish to find a Hiking girl for traveling..
Thanks so much for sharing that information. I did wonder how you prepared for your trip in Nepal. I am looking at taking on more and more challenges, in the future. I wanted to know how to prepare for such Advanced hikes.
Looking forward to seeing what your next hiking adventures look like. There’s a lot to be said, in my opinion, for enjoying your hike as much as possible rather than making a race of it. I think you did yourself a favor by consulting a personal trainer for a pre-hike routine to prepare for the physical requirements of trip. Best wishes for whatever comes next. Stay safe out there.
Your upcoming trip(s) will be awesome!
…and if you need social pressure to get ready, you could live stream your workouts 3x per week. All of us are here to help!
OMG This is awesome! Two beautiful women in New Zealand! Great videos are coming!
social pressures is why I DON’T go to the gym. rather work out at home where I can procrastinate in comfort.
Hi GCN, any tips for working up to professional level? I am just 14 and am wanting some advice from pros like you. These videos are great too, Thanks
Hey guys,
what does Simon use as lights? They look damn sweet.
awesome advice! thank you. I’ve been enjoying your videos and strength training workouts.
Try ankle weights. the old saying a kilo on the feet equals five on the back, May save a bit of stress on knee.s ect.
This is the best prep video I’ve ever seen!!! So fun and great job editing! You have dry humor!! Love itttt!!! The cold was the hardest challenge on trail for me, sounds like you’ll definitely be ready for it!
Many thanks, a great video. Some great advice and I Lol’d when I saw your Sister wearing her ‘Dragon Onesie’. Very jealous of you having two great trips to look forward to, can’t wait to see the videos xx
Can’t wait to see your thru-hike! Great video. Best hiking video so far for the 2018 class!! Good luck with your training.
Having a training “buddy” like Mom is a big help and motivator. And of course, if you enjoy the type of exercise that is undertaken, the more likely you are to stick at it. Best of luck to you both, stay happy!
Hello Maiu, it is so good to see once again. How exciting it is to look forward to a dream hiking vacation in New Zealand. I am sure that your mother is equally excited. I am going to kick back and watch the rest of this fine video. You take care, be safe and always have fun.
You’re inspiring me to start some kind of fitness program. Please stop I’m a Lazy bum! Can’t wait to watch your upcoming videos in New Zealand. I’ve always wanted to go there. Have fun hiking… Thanks for the update.
I haven’t watched the entire video yet but I just have got to say CONGRATULATIONS on the Fjällräven thing! New Zeeland sounds amazing as well, I hope you and your mother (she seems awesome) have a great trip.
Wow! New Zealand will be awesome! Looking forward to seeing your photos and videos, and wish I could come along!
hey Nate! just run my first marathon last month; of course Venice Marathon, in Italy!
Thanks for your amazing advices and keep up your great job!
Bro, This is pure greatness! The fire starting skills made me laugh so hard, but I have the flu so I wound up nearly choking to death coughing (totally worth it). I also have to ask how the wine pairs with the beef ramen?
Happy Trails! Hope to cross paths this year!
I wish you and your mother a lot of fun and comes back healthy healthy greetings martin
I’m so jealous of you guys. Looking forward to seeing your videos. Good luck on your adventures ✌
I just got into cycling this year out of necessity when I didn’t have a car and needed to get to work. I was commuting 32 miles a day 5 days a week on a Granite Peak Roadmaster until about 4 months ago when I bought an Allez (at the suggestion of GCN). Now I’m riding the same in half the time and just rode my first 70 mile ride completely shocking myself that I maintained power throughout. Riding a lot, consistently got me there for sure.
You are unquestionably my favorite ‘lady person’ to watch and listen to on YouTube. Logical, practical, thrifty and lovely to boot…go for it!! Moms pretty remarkable as well
I may have missed it in the video, but…how often do you recommend doing this workout? Like, how many times in a week?
I saw a movie about the inauguration of the school year in Lindi [2018 -19 ]
why do I feel so tired after a long bike ride, no breakfast except water, 40km total, but I feel as if I was drained.
Regarding those Sweet Spot intervals: at what pace should one ride in between the intervals? Active Recovery or Endurance?
I came back to this video after long time. I’m not being judgmental or anything. But I feel that you guys still need to use FUNCTIONAL THRESHOLD POWER in your latest videos than using FTP. Even you guys have grown from smaller and initial videos. Using FTP in recent videos makes a new comer google up for FTP. Sweet spot is again an added confusion to already existing gazillion terminologies. I want you guys to stay true professionals to everyone, Be it a new comer to your channel or a loyal viewer of GCN.
I train myself to ride longer by putting a big piece of cake on some string, suspended from the end of a stick, which I glue to the top of my helmet.
Appi kui lahe, et sul avanes võimalus minna Uus meremaale. See on suurepärane maa. Olin seal 9 kuud. Ja seal õppisin nautima matkamisest ja armastan mägesi:D
Kahjuks seal olles ei olnud aega teha The Great Walke, aga Tongariro crossing oli vapustav.
Jään ootama matkamise muljeid seal Paradiisis:)
Õnn kaasa!
Woohoo! Thanks for explaining this! I thought I had to sacrifice my hiking days for marathon training, but now I see that it can be beneficial.
OMG what a great opportunity…. this is one of those lifetime experiences you can’t turn down. Blessing to you and your mom on the trip. Your approach to training is a good one.. when i do overall body training i train every 3rd day. that allows me to fully recover from each training session. (you don’t want to know my heavy training schedule it is not for humans) combined with proper diet the results are dramatic. Keep up the great attitude, very inspiring.. Thank you J
Really Great
You will LOVE New Zealand. I cycled 500 Km down the South Island. It is the most beautiful scenic place.
Try the Trans-Scenic Train Journey from Greymouth to Christchurch which takes you across the awesome wilderness of the South Island.
I envy you going to New Zealand. But only in the nicest kindest way. I am sure it will be wonderful.
It’s definitely nice finding that sweet spot for yourself, where you can have a consistent pace and still feel like you have sprints left in you.
wow you lucky thing, I can’t wait to see both mega trips to NZ and the antarctica,:-)
Wish there were more comical hiking videos. {some of those hiker guys take themselves so seriously}
Wow! Good luck and enjoy your New Zealand trip with your Mum. From Meg and her Mum, Jill:)
One of the best tips I got for training for a hike was to have a strong coffee table (or box) and your pack in front of the TV. When you watch a show and the adds come on then put on the pack and step up and down on the coffee table until the add break is over and the show comes back on, then sit down and rest.
The goal is to total around 30-40 minutes per night which is about 2 TV shows. Also you should alternate which legs goes first each time you put the pack on. If you are watching nextflix then I guess put on timer for every 10mins and step up for 5mins until you hit your total for the night.
The idea is you only do this small amount of exercise per night but you do it every day so the accumulated amount over a week is like hiking up a small mountain. It’s best to start off gradually, if you are sore the next day then you have over trained.
Just thought I would share this tip for anyone interested because I have had great success with it, a friend in the special forces taught it too me and it helped him get through the selection course.
You have such an interesting channel, really looking forward to seeing you hike NZ!
Anyone that goes to that much work to make a great video gets my Sub and Like.
Hahaha… Such a funny video! You have a great humor. Keep on walking!
I am going to binge watch you today! You are funny and not bad to look at either 😉
Guys, I’m really confused about the shorter sweet spot intervals. How is it that doing two of those is better than just doing one longer effort or better yet, a longer effort actually at FTP? I mean, FTP is the power you can hold for one hour, correct? So wouldn’t you get more power increase to train actually at FTP for a couple of intervals? I don’t get it. Cheers
Them Clinique tho had me rolling, I use exactly the same. LOL
ok where did you get that rain skirt and what is it called?! I need this in my life
Well, no more videos for Me… That summed everything up…. That was funny. Good Luck!
Hilarious. Seriously, though, as the mom of 3 children, living in a hilly, but definitely not mountainous region, training for my annual AT section hikes, at times, takes place on my spin bike, resistance cranked up, in the standing position, wearing my backpack. You find a way to do what you have to do!
Instant fan my friend! Your comedic delivery is spot on! I had no idea I was meeting a superstar! These videos are epic man…on to the next one I go!
Funny video, thanks for reminding us not to take everything too seriously. I love the trail name Scrabble game, very creative!
As a fellow Canadian hiker I can’t wait to watch you on your hike!! Hike On eh!!
Hello.. Love your videos and subscribed. I see you had just recently subscribed to my channel. I AM FLattered!!! Small YouTube Channel old guy like me needs all the help he can get. Thanks Much and look forward to more of you Videos.

Max
1.17 Si checkin himself out in the shop window OMFG lolz…. Followed by a rare lesser spotted Dan ‘the boss’ Lloyd on a turbo… was Dans shadow beating him up that hill?? 😉
Hikification, have you hiked any of the trails in the Lake Superior Provincial Park? (Coastal Trail)
Great video I start my hill walking in March when summer is cooling off. Don’t forget to wave as you fly over on the way to New Zealand. Looking forward to the video of your hike.
Take care Will
Funny yet scary at the same timeScary because sadly even if you really did the prep in the video it would be more than many people attempting to thru-hike do hence such a large proportion quit or have a harder time than necessary due to poor or no prep.
Well consider me triple subscribed!! Smart and hilarious! I’ve been a little sad that I need to wait to 2019 for my AT hike, but if I can follow your videos it won’t hurt half as much!
I get that pain in my shoulders too and my base wight is only 6kg my full weight with food and water is never over 10kg
Hey! I love the video but I have a question, I am someone who has never Hike before and is not very regular on exercise but I am soon planning on going on a hike, should I start with this exercise?
Hi GCN. I’m a very new cyclist and have only done a few
Sessions at about 10 miles being the longest ride. I have found I am having problems with feeling light headed or sometimes sick when cycling. I have tried to drink plenty at least 30 mins before and regular sips throughout my ride and also to go slower than I feel I can and ride more consistently throughout to ease myself into the sport. However when I step off my bike I do feel worse. Have you any tips to prevent this? Maybe to try a proper cool down before stopping?
great advice.we are not all super human athletes. Yoga is perfect enough.I love NZ.
What kind of bike do you have to go along with that Bell Bullitt?
Very clever and witty. Finally a 2018 thru pre-thru hike video that isn’t another gear review. And a fellow Canadian to boot, eh. Looking forward to following your adventure.
Love this so much!!!! The dinner had me rolling!!!! all of it was awesome!! Good job. Oh yeah… hike on
I can’t wait to follow your hike on the AT….from Canada
who win the national road race championship while still working full time?
Oh my gosh, I cracked up with your scrabble board. Had to pause it, to catch all the names you included. I’m preparing for 2018 AT thru hike myself. You brought lightness to the preparation. Thanks for the laughs. Hope to see you on the trail.
I’ve been getting prepared for the PCT since November and have done a lot of the same things you were doing done a lot of research on my gear and hiked The driest section of the PCT last year with a 40 pound pack came home defeated and set right away to lowering my Pack weight my pack way is now about 20 pounds fully loaded and I have done many practice hikes with my 20 pound pack and I can’t believe how much easier it is thanks for the video I subscribed to your channel
March is good here in NZ, not too hot/cold. Have you picked any places you want to hike yet?
So how much will your hiking pack weigh? I am an old man so I can’t carry too much.
Great tips and advice. I really need to get on the yoga more, I get horrendous tension in the same places. I’m fortunate enough though to live in the woods and next to our longest national trail (the North Country Trail) so I hike daily and it keeps my endurance very high. However the treadmill is a great idea for the winter months where the laziness rules supreme. Really need to look into one of those. Thanks for the excellent video. Always nice to “feel” your positive energy coming through. Cheers.
Joking aside estonia, have you tried calisthenics combined with yoga if it’s strength your looking for?
what do you do if you want to commute to work but you have no shower at work?
So that’s where all the Scott Solace Disc’s went! To you guys:( How about a review of them, with the mechanical shifters?
That was some funny stuff right there! For a split second or two I almost thought you were serious, then just had to start laughing. The Scrabble board was pure genius. Hope your videos continue to be so entertaining.
In the movie ” HeartBreak Ridge ” Clint Eastwood said Pain Is Good!!! It Lets You Know That You’re Still Alive!!! “
24K subscribers! This is a pretty cool video. I like watching it. I subscribed and look forward to more of your content. I’m also trying to build subscription so I would love if you could check out my channel as well please. thanks!
imagine it will be interesting in the gear you carry and obstacles on the way.
a question. if better running is your goal, then can this work all the way around that hiking, improves performance because of running? thanks
Blinking back lights are actually worse than constantly glowing ones, because car drivers aren’t able to tell the distance to those easily. If you ride in the dark, you should definitely go with solid light over blinking!
Thank you for all the great tips Good luck on your upcomming adventures.

I was a hiker before I was a runner. The biggest problem I have these days is finding the time to get out on the trail. Much easier to find the time to run.
hey guys! when I hike, I hike with my 2 1/2 year old in the hiking backpack. she is about 30lbs. How long would you suggest I hike (with her) the day after a long run?
thanks for the video! I always liked long hikes after hard workout days; I’ll be sure to incorporate more hikes in my training
