Hey Thomas, what’s your take on defatted sunflower seed flour? Per 100 grams it contains 3.187 mg of B1 which is 212 % DV. It also contains 48 grams of protein per 100 grams of flour, which is crazy amount.

I would be very interested in hearing your opinion on oxalates. Lots of people are talking about them right now (mostly citing Sally K Norton’s research) as a hidden toxicity risk in keto/paleo diets because some foods that are popular in the keto community happen to be very high in oxalates (e.g. swiss chard, kale, asparagus, most nuts and seeds).

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Servings: 1
Ingredients:
1 cup Broccoli, steamed, drained
2 Bacon slices, cooked, chopped
2 Tbsp Cheddar Cheese, in cubes
1 Tbsp Red Onions, sliced
1 Tbsp whole Almonds
2 Tbsp Ranch dressing
Procedure:
1) In a large mixing bowl, place the steamed broccoli.
2) Add the chopped bacon.
3) Add the cheddar cheese.
4) Add the red onions.
5) Add the almonds.
6) Lastly, add the ranch dressing.
7) Toss the salad with dressing until well combined. Serve.

New to keto so just want clarification. How is eating tuna in oil taking away from the oil or omegas in the fish. I’m asking based on the comment the oil should come from the fish, not the oil in the can. Isn’t it still coming from the fish AND the added olive oil? Is it such a horrible thing to get oil from both the tuna or salmon and the olive oil? Thank you for clarifying.

shark and whale is a no no for me. shark catfishes grow up in vietnam / cambodia in antibiotics water. that is the absolute worst and cheapest.

Don’t dismiss tuna, it’s a good source of nutrition (protein and omega 3). It depends on where it’s caught.

1. Tilapia, low in omega 3s and often are farmed and fed awful diets such as chicken poo.
2. Swordfishhigher up on food chain so may be feeding on and building up chemically contaminated (ie.Mercury) smaller fish.
3.Tuna.Same as swordfish. Canned tuna is actually better because it’s usually younger and less contaminated

1. Keto Breaded Shrimp
Preparation / cooking time: 20 minutes
Servings: 1

Ingredients:
100 grams Shrimp, shelled and deveined
1Tbsp Parmesan Cheese
¼ tsp Chili powder
¼ tsp Paprika
¼ tsp Garlic powder
¼ tsp dried Oregano
Salt, to taste
1 Tbsp Olive Oil, for frying
1 Egg, whisked
25 grams Pork rinds
1 Tbsp Mayonnaise, as dip, to serve
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Procedure:
1. Prepare two bowls: one with parmesan cheese and another one with the spices.
2. Season the shrimps with the spices.
3. Add the parmesan cheese.
4. Mix until the shrimps are fully coated. Set aside.
5. Prepare another two bowls: one with whisked egg and another one with pork rinds.
6. Dip the shrimp, one at a time into the egg.
7. Finally, coat the shrimps with pork rinds.
8. Place into a plate.
9. Now, heat olive oil in a non-stick pan.
10. Add the breaded shrimps and cook until orange in color.
11. Flip carefully and cook the other side.
12. Serve with mayonnaise as a dip.

Oh, and one of the fish farms that you feature, at 1:55, looks like it is from the Faroe Islands which is very well managed (unlike Norwegian fish farms).

Personally Love fresh caught Large Mouth Bass from Lakes and Ponds as when you put the filets into a dish of distilled water it pulls out all the nasty impurities and smell! You can catch these beautiful fish in all of the 50 states and they taste wonderful as well as nutritious. Not to mention fishing is fun and it’s a lot cheaper than going to the store and purchasing fish that you have no idea where it came from nor how it was raised for the environment it was in. And it is seriously keto friendly.
This was so good! I used spicy brown mustard because that was all I had and fried it in my air fryer. It was delicious! I haven’t had catfish since I was on a trip to Mississippi when I was 11 years old. I rarely see it in my area. But it was on sale at my local grocery store here in the Pacific Northwest and I remembered how much I loved it when I was a kid. I’m so glad I found your recipe, because I had no idea how to make it. The lemon water soak really removed any fishy taste.

ewwww, I gave up tilapia years ago…I totally agree with you on that one! Once I learned how disgusting the tilapia farming was, I gave it up immediately. Swordfish surprised me…I didn’t realize that living longer meant they were more toxic. Interesting…not my Tuna!! but….sashimi! Now I’m sad, lol

I made this Papa G! It’s crazy how the yellow mustard along with the cajun spice (I used your home made cajun spice recipe too) turned the flavor of the filet into gourmet divine! I never thought I would use yellow mustard for anything other than a hot dog. Thank you for sharing this secret. I will never snub yellow mustard again, lol. Are some types of tuna better than others? We have access to yellowfin, skipjack and albacore here in Samoa and it’s really abundant. It’s about the only fish we can easily get that’s not raping the reef of all its wildlife.

I started buying a lot of this frozen preseasoned salmon from Safeway over the past month but was wondering how there was 10g carbs in it….then saw in the ingredients that they use maltodextrin with what they season it with…..

I’m so glad catfish isn’t on the list. I eat that often. The only fish from the bad list I eat is tuna, and I eat the canned stuff. Tilapia is awful. Never eat that.

I had awesome Lake Erie Perch, fresh caught. I coated them in egg, and rolled them in flaxseed meal with cajun (all out of almond flour). Fried in avacado oil! (No mustard on these filets as they have a skin side-maybe on some other white fish filets). It was deeeeeelicios! Thanks for the recipe guide.

I would advise everyone to ensure it is tuna in the can. It could be Barracuda.
Which has flesh full of worms. They grade the fish by how prevalent the worms are and quite often substitute tuna with it when canning. I havent eaten canned tuna for well over 35yrs. I use to work in a fish processing plant in my younger days.

The only other time in my life I remember eating fried fish as good as this (a fav if mine as a child btw)was when my late Mom very,very rarely made it for my dad. We’re Italian& I’m fairly certain she prob never even heard of Cajun seasoning back then. But she’d use Progresso seasoning breadcrumbs, which gave it a kick kinda like yours.

I saw in another one of your recent videos, to not eat canned tuna. Something about the canning process (heating) leached chemicals into the tuna. The suggestion in that video was to use the pouches of tuna.

1 clove of Garlic, minced
1/2 Cherry Tomatoes, in halves
1 cup Arugula
2 Tbsp Heavy Cream
2 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
2 Tbsp fresh Basil, chopped
1/2 lemon, squeezed
Procedure:
1) Over medium heat, heat the skillet and add the olive oil.
2) Add shrimps and cook until the color turns into light orange, about 2 minutes.
3) Remove from skillet and set aside.
4) Lower the heat to low and add butter. When butter has melted, saute the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
5) Add cherry tomatoes and arugula. Then, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook until tomatoes are tender and arugula is just wilted.
6) Add in heavy cream, parmesan and fresh basil.
7) Add the shrimps back to the skillet and stir to combine.
8) Bring the mixture to simmer.
9) Lastly, squeeze lemon before serving.

Its basically tasty but more expensive and without the deep frying and a pound of butter… Sorry bet 6tsp of peanut butter ain’t low calorie. Delicious and healthy for some but definitely not low calorie.
2. Keto Salmon with Chunky Basil Pesto
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Servings: 1
Ingredients:
For the Salmon:
170g Salmon fillet
Salt and black pepper
1/8 tsp dried Thyme
1/8 tsp dried Rosemary
For the sauce:
1/4 cup fresh Basil
1 Tbsp Almonds
1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
2 Garlic cloves
2 Tbsp Olive Oil
Salt and black pepper
Procedure:
For the Salmon:
1) Season the salmon fillet with all the spices and herbs.
2) Heat a non-stick pan and add olive oil.
3) Add the salmon to the skillet, skin down first. Cook for a few minutes.
4) Flip the salmon carefully and continue cooking until thoroughly cooked. Set aside.
For the sauce:
1) Using a food processor, prepare all the ingredients.
2) Add the ingredients in the food processor.
3) Pulse on high until everything is coarsely chopped, about 1 minute.
4) Serve the salmon with pesto and a slice of lemon.

This recipe turned out really good. Even my teenager ate it and came back for seconds!! only difference is I cooked shrimp separately so I could cook them a little longer and put it all together in the end. Thanks!!
