My problem with carbs, I try to avoid them but anytime I exercise if I don’t eat them can’t cover my hunger although I avoid rice and bread but can’t stop beans and lentils

Should I use IF everyday? I saw in one of your videos (not sure which one, as I’ve been watching non stop) that it’s not good to IF everyday at a calorie deficit as it may get your body used to a smaller amount of calories and make you gain weight on days you may go over. I’m trying to make sure that doesn’t happen as some days I want to IF for longer time frames than others but it’s SUPER hard for me to even consume 1500 cal. on my 18/6 days.

Veggies have carbs, so yeah, a cup or so is a chunk of your macros. I used to eat a whole steamed bag of keto friendly veg with my dinner, love it. But then realized how many carbs. One bag of broc is almost all of my carbs for the day. So, now I do measure my veg.

My favorite thing about veggie noodles is that they take so much less time to cook than traditional pasta. I only saute my zoodles for 2-4 minutes and they’re done. When I was a child my mum always used to cook squash, and put butter in the middle for flavour. Who knew, until now, that her adding fat into that veg, actually made it good for you.

I used to weigh 360 pounds and lost 100 pounds quite a few years ago, but kept regaining it and due to Chondromalacia and arthritis and high blood pressure and just a list of health issues I went on keto and intermittent fasting December 2018! I have just lost about 30 pounds since then and have a very supportive system, my hubby! Your videos and encouragement makes me want to not give up and continue! My ultimate goal is 170 pounds yet more than that is to lower my blood pressure and continue to be pain-free! Thank you tremendously for your encouragement!

I just started essentially a high carb diet, eating lots of potatoes, rice, carrots, broccoli, all mixed veggies. No meat and I have been losing 1kg a week and feel absolutely fantastic. Coming from a dedicated meat eater, this is fantastic. Literally over 300g of carbs per day.

Hello Dr. Nick, April 31st I started my Keto journey. I was taking 12 pills a day for blood pressure and diabetes. As of today I’m down 56 pounds and only take a half of a blood pressure pill and that’s it! No more blood sugar pills either and my a1c was down to 5.8.

Interesting about the peas. I’ve been avoiding them on keto, but I’ve never had more than about a quarter cup serve preketo with my dinner and that’s only just over 3 carbs. I think I can get away with it now and again with my mixed veggies. It’s all about perspective on these veggies. I mean no one is going to sit and eat a cup of radishes or chili peppers.
I see that I eat from the 4 carbs and down group but I seem to eat a great deal more just to satiate the hunger. First time I have heard of dirty keto vs clean and I just bought a whole mess of dirty as that is what I have been consuming. When you point out percentage of what we are to eat would you mind giving an example as 27% protein means nothing to the common person.?

Whys iron always the first nutrient everyone mentions? You think you eat lots of iron you’ll be iron man? How about the always deficit magnesium and potassium which the only way to get enough is through greens? Or the super hard to find nutrient, actual folate? Who cares about iron.

What’s the science with vinegar reducing carbs? Cucumbers, raw are 3g/cup, but cucumbers cured in vinegar, aka pickles, are 1.9g/cup.

Thomas, The sauerkraut you speak of, the high amount of fructose is released into the bloodstream before the fiber gets into the large intestine then ferments it into SCFAs. What I am saying is the high sugars are absorbed into body and they are not fermented. Just saying, cuz you glossed over this fact. I agree it is still a good vegetable choice for many reasons.
Is kim chi as good as saurkraut? Keto recipes are challenging because there aren’t as many Asian recipes available. Kim chi helps me adjust. I’m thinking won bok kim chi, but maybe cucumber or daikon are ok too?

I’ve been eating at least one and half cups of asparagus on a regular basis. I’m not sure if that’s a lot but I can certainly smell when I excrete urine/sweat! The fructose conversion hasn’t impacted my weight loss albeit I do keep my total net carbs to around 25 to 30 grams.
Please comment on beet roots and carrots on keto. Are they ok to consume on a regular keto diet regarding the amount of fructose they have or? And if not, should they be consumed right after training when the body is extremely insulin sensitive (get the fructose (carrots and/or beets), glucose and sodium) in order to replenish muscle glycogen after a good workout?
I recall that on one episode you mentioned that pea protein was a good source of protein. But in this episode, you say that it is not good as a keto option. But is it okay if I am not on keto? is that how I can understand it?
so i just started keto on Tuesday the 30th. I am a sixteen year old and way 300 pounds(started at 309.8 on Tuesday now im 299.2). I am on the journey with my Mom and Dad, but it feels weird trying to tell them what we should or shouldn’t eat because im 16 and they are my parents. my macros are 195 fat, 157 protein and 20 carbs. We have been eating a lot of protein and i have seen that you recommend less protein because it can be used for glycogenesis, or whatever it is called. I have already got sort of accustomed to 16:8 if, but am struggling with hitting my fat goals. Do you have any tips that i can share with my parents so we can begin our keto journey right?
So chickpeas are ok to eat? I’ve found a brand that has 32g of carbohydrates and 28g of fiber, so 4g net carbs/100g of chickpeas. Considering that I’d use them for hummus, that amount of carbs is negligible, right?
Could you please confirm how many grams are in a cup? Is it per 100 to 150 grams? (4 to 6 ounces?)
I’m surprised butternut squash didn’t make it on here. Other nutritional docs say that fairly good amounts are keto friendly. With its ability to be made into noodles it helps fill out a meal. I just wish it tasted better.

I’m lucky to have always loved vegetables, if it weren’t for that i would have probably failed to go low carb / IF. I know many people that only eat breaded steak and fries and it scares me just thinking about the damage they’re doing to their bodies.

Who work funky hours. Who do not have the luxury of a 9-5. I’d love to see some recipe ideas for bok choy and sauerkraut because, while Keto friendly, they don’t strike me as being as versatile as asparagus is. Asparagus goes with pretty much anything, sauerkraut….not so much (think salmon and sauerkraut, bleh).

This video it’s great, everything sounded perfect, i’m a started just week ago, usually i won’t eat much fat al all so im trying to adapt my body to eat”fat”, everything you have mentioned it’s on my diet, BUT, i don’t see any weight loss, even tho i go to a pretty heavy work out almost every day, IT MUST be something i’m doing wrong because i can see a little bit of shrinking but so far no weight loss. Kind of disappointed, since i’m fasting from 6pm dinner time to 12 pm lunch time next day. I do drink coffee with almond milk and monk fruit sweetener. other than that i have my app Carb Manager and trying to stay in line. I’m 5.9″ and 155 pounds want to lose 20 pounds and so far im not happy with the results. Question: how much calories should my diet be based on? then i can adjust my Macros i guess? Our bodies do not absorb these nutrients properly. Spinach is very high in oxalates. Good fats and meat are the way to go. Arugula is ok.

At the beginning of this year, I came around the Ketogenic diet and I started to do it with her. Unfortunately, where we live it is harder to really find the butter that is grass-fed and any type of meat. We live in San Salvador, El Salvador.
My sister is insulin resistant and we just turned 50, she lives a very stressful life, both my parents are sick and she deals with this all the time. Anyone know why someone would experience nausea doing intermittent fasting? During my fasting period, I am fine for the first 7 8 hours and go about my day, but the evening comes and I feel sick and start salivating and need to spit up or else I will puke

Artichoke hearts have 11g total carbs per 8.5 oz can-9 grams fiber = 2 grams per 8.5 oz can. I’m looking at the Nutrition Label right now. Also people should not consider corn a vegetable it is a grain. Pumpkin & tomatoes are fruits.

The main difference between fruits and vegetables is that, when picked, a vegetable will begin to spoil or rot whereas a fruit will continue to ripen after picking.

Great video! I didn’t know that artichokes were considered a vegetable. As healthy and as good as broccoli, cauliflower, and brussels sprouts are, I don’t like those vegetables, but I love veggies like zucchini, kale, spaghetti squash isn’t too bad.

Dr. Nick my stress is through the roof. I started the keto diet on the 13th and have only lost 3.9 pounds. All my sugar cravings have practically gone away and some days i eat way under my calories. My clothes do feel so much better. A person that I follow on YouTube suggested I use my own body fat as my high source fat. On keto I know the fat part is so important. I have such trouble getting it in sometimes. Do you have fat bomb recipes??? I need help. What can I do to fix this situation? I’m going bonkers. I log everything and try to get my water in as well.

I think the ones with high carbs are the one which people dont eat more than a cup and the ones with low carbs are the ones which people dont mind eating more than a cup.

I rat A LOT of vegetables. One should not eat until your heart desires. Measure and count the carbs because the amount can screw up your hard work and planning. Be careful.

I’ve been following keto/OMAD or almost two weeks now and I’ve been slipping up a little. I was never really a high carb person to began with, but I had steamed frozen sliced carrots (starchy) and a scoop of mashed potatoes (also a huge no-no ) but everything is a learning process lol. I’m losing weight nonetheless, but I’m taking steps forward to going flat out full Keto instead of bending the rules. I love eating clean and I wake up feeling energized even if I’m up early morning by accident lol.
Hi. I’ve already lost 50 kilos. Now I’ve got a problem I cant eat dairy and eggs so my diet is very boring and for 8 months I haven’t lost any weight. What i eat is sweet potato baby marrows, pumpkin.spring onions, mushrooms, carrots and a few other low carb veggies plus proteins. Absolutely no weight loss, I have fybromyalgia and colon problems. Also, i will be forever thankful for your advice Dr. Berg. My latest HOMA-IR shows that i have no insulin resistance at all. Only a couple of months ago i had severe IR and was headed for type 2 diabetes. I also dropped 70lbs.

I don’t do keto, but why does LITERALLY NOBODY talk about rapini/broccoli raab? On top of vitamins and minerals, it’s basically just protein, fiber, and plant omega-3s.
