He’s right about getting buzzed faster, I’m 6’ 2” and weigh 247 and normally I don’t even feel a buzz until several beers and a few shots but Friday night I drank one 16 oz. Coors Light after work and felt a buzz. I was very surprised, unfortunately that only encouraged me to go full out. Big mistake. I had 3/4 of a fifth of Jack Daniels, straight. Also had about 7-8 Coors lights and I held me own all night and never had the spins or got sick but the next day I felt like I was run over by an 18 wheeler! That was my once a week night. I’ve been on Keto for 2 months now and didn’t drink for the first month. When I started drinking, I was literally only taking tequila shots, nothing else. Never affected my Ketosis as I still maintained high fat in my diet. I suppose it could be also down to the fact that I didn’t go overboard with the drinking.

I think when you’re doing keto and you drink alcohol your body will burn the alcohol first before anything else, hence fat burning. But when in Rome REEDS zero ginger beer and vodka make a great Moscow Mule!

One question, Thomas. How about alcoholfree beer? You might have covered it already,but I can’t find much info about it. I have tried keto and omad for a couple of months and lost over 10 kg and it feels great. However, it’s getting hard to maintain ketosis and the days of intermittent fasting is getting fewer. I also find myself with nuts and alcohol free beer a few times a week and wonder if I’m ‘shooting myself in my feet’. I’m one of those who have lots of motivation for a few weeks, but then I start to struggle. So I guess my question is kind of double, here. But I’m really curious about alcohol free beer and ketosis.

If you’re in the UK, ‘yellow label’ (the brand with the kangaroo) has tonnes of low carb wines look for the nutrition info, lots is 0.7-1.7 grams of carb per 100ml!
White Claw with vodk or rum depending on the flavor of White Claw
Could give up all carbs on keto but there is no sub for a proper IPA. Limit it to 2 and go no carb you can keep the carbs to around 30g 40g for the day.
What is the alcohol in setltzer? If I have more than one, my stomach is a messes. Takes me 3 days to get back into keto mode.

Corona Seltzer and Smirnoff Red, White and Berry are both good.Truly is not bad either. Stay away from the Bud Light Seltzer though. Not the greatest. There are a few others that are just ok.
Kahlua has 33 gm of sugar/carb per 2.5 oz serving, and is 20% ABV.
None of this works for me, tried most of them, does not work for an alcoholic like me. 220 lbs. down from 256 lbs 70 yrs. old. Like your videos.

I have 2-3 shots of Amsterdam Vodka which is 80% distilled only once or twice and only on the weekend and I get a cool buzz after the 2nd lol. Plus Thomas is right, the buzz goes away faster. Doesn’t really affect my results so why not ♂️

My first month of my keto journey, I cut the alcohol. All alcohols. That launched my loss pretty well. I’ve got another 10 pounds to go, so I’m going to probably do another dry month (or more) to get those last pounds off.

Milk Thistle is very good for the liver and kidneys. I’ve cut down on beer quite a bit, only have 2 or 3 a week. Instead I drink vodka and seltzer, no carbs. And a shot of whiskey here and there.

I drink nightly 4 or 5 beers. I eat one meal a day. Mostly all meat and cheese. Maybe around 1500 calories per meal. I have lost zero weight. I am exactly where I started after several weeks. Same as when I was binging on junk food. So alcohol is bad for my keto.

I found out what you mean about cheap date… LOL… I used to love my Lagunitas Hop Stoopid 22oz bombers and was horrified when I found out that ONE 22oz bomber has 50g of carbs!!! Holy hell… I guess I’ll have to try the Corona Premier in a few weeks.

What if you don’t eat anything all day to save your calories for the liquor, drink straight hard liquor like vodka with no other sugars added, control your urge to binge eat, and only have like 4-5 shots so like 500 calories for the whole day (that’s all I need to get drunk), maybe once a month to once every 2 months. Is that fine to keep losing weight? Specifically that day even, I ask cause I know if I only have 500 calories that day I’m still obviously in a deficit, but I know alcohol stops fat burning. Also how long does the inhibiting of fat burning last? Like should I wait 48 hours until I can expect to burn fat again?

Why would you want to live longer if can not drink regular coke? I drink 5x220ml can of REGULAR coke daily since college, 5-10 bottles 620ml 5% pilsener beer (quit 5 yrs ago after my 5 yr old daughter would not talk to me), vaping 15mg nic from chain smoking 2×20-pack cigs daily, born in 72 h 165cm w 80kg, yearly blood general checkup numbers are perfectly normal, once every 2-3 years catch cold.
For me, vodka ceases ketone production for 1 to 2 hours per drink. Even something like whiskey pauses for hours. Maybe 4. If you drink more than once a week, I’d go for vodka. Just based on my own research according to MY body.
Sour Monkey is very good! I stick to the Corona Seltzers now though. They are zero carb.
I bought a mixed flavor pack of the Corona hard seltzers, tastes like very watered down Corona with a hint of fruit flavoring. The only White Claw that I’ve tried so far is the mango flavor, and I like it tastes pretty good. As far as keto friendly beers, I’ll keep Mich Ultra in the fridge. Liquor generally is either a corn whiskey or a vodka with diet ginger ale. That’s keto drinking anyway.

So I drink bourbon and water a lot, but what I sadly learned from Dr. Fung is that alcohol, even if it has no carbs, it does spike your insulin. So apparently, if you over indulge, it can create carb cravings later (and maybe some other effects I forgot about).

I don’t believe it stops fat burning for 24 hours. A shot of whiskey, my favorite drink, is about 90 calories and zero carbs. Your liver has to deal with the alcohol first. Your body has to deal with any and all digested calories. Once burned, including any carb calories, your body then has to return to fat burning. Assuming a Keto diet, you don’t have a lot of carb calories to deal with and just the 90 calories from the whiskey. Assuming you maintain weight say at 2500 calories a day, you will burn that drink in one hour, not 24. PS: I can drink 3 oz a day and still burn plenty of fat within 24 hours. Drink!!!

I started keto a month ago, nowadays I feel like Thomas is like a dad, uncle or big keto brother to me.
I have learned so much, I planned a cheat day today because I went in a caloric deficit for a week. And i planned to make keto pancakes, a chocolate keto milkshake and so far I just ate a huge salad and my keto bread and cheese.
I feel so satisfied and good. People always complain about diets and not having freedom, but truly guys, the only slavery is the processed unhealthy food. WHY DO YOU WANT IT?
After a whole month of keto and OMAD I don’t even see the point of having processed food on cheat days. My cheatdays now are just a caloric surplus until satisfaction without tracking my macros.

If you’ve never tried Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty, DO NOT listen to this terrible review. I LOVE this lo-carb IPA. It’s not at all watery. Very satisfying!
There’s also Lagunitas Daytime IPA (4% ABV / 98 calories / 3g carb). I think I might like this one even better, but it’s probably more of a toss-up.

14 lbs down first 30 days. at the end of an 18 hr fast today my K level was 1.5. broke with 2 eggs and 2 turkey bacon. 2 hrs later had 3 slices of restaraunt made cauliflour crust pizza with pepperoni, mushroom, and feta. 2 hrs later had 3 vodka and seltzers. Ks at.2! FUCK!

Bourbon and Coke Zero. You get cherry and vanilla from the bourbon with out any carbs. Stay away from bourbon Liquers like Wild Turkey Honey, Jim Beam Red Stag, etc. They all have added flavors and sugars. Straight Bourbon Whiskey, by law, isn’t allowed to have any additives or flavors.
Tonight I had 1/2 L Polish beer plus 200 mL of water and I must’ve pissed 4L of piss, So what’s that about? I cleaned my kidneys and lost 3 L or 3 kg of water weight!
I also have seen a dramatic slow down in my KETO weight loss due to alcohol. I tend to drink the darker alcohols on the rocks. I have done the Hard Seltzers in the summer and basically stick to Ultra in the fall and winter. A new one that actually has some taste is “Slightly Mighty” by Dogfish Head which has 3.6 carbs per can. Not sure if it is national but you can get it in the Northeast. You are right about it hitting you faster though. As a bartender I will tell you that regardless of diet the less sugary a drink is the less tendency you will have a hangover. So, as a mixer use the club sodas and flavored seltzers. Be careful that the flavored seltzers aren’t flavored with aspartame. I appreciate these videos and your honesty about being a drinker. It’s funny how keto police get so knit picky about every ingredient for someone else touting what is n isn’t healthy but will allow themselves to drink something obviously toxic to the liver..I’m not a drinker anyway but I think it’s hypocritical

I am sorry but calories don’t give you diabetes… control carbs and sugars and that’s it. Controlling your insulin is key.

Was drinking 8-10 beers about 1,500 calories a night. Switched to vodka, 0 cal lemon flavored soda water and a splash of lemon. About 650 calories a night. Take in 600 calories a day in food on top of it now Week 2 dropped 3 lbs feel great.no more bloated feeling in the morning. Video is a little misleading,Huge difference between beer and vodka.
I lost weight in 2018 drinking Michelob ultra on the beach all summer eating berries and a few sweet potatoes. It’s all in moderation as far as these things are concerned. I’m on blood thinner so I’m not supposed to drink very much. I get sugar-free mixers and I have 1 to 2 drinks and that’s it on rare occasion. And I’m not a spring chicken I’m 61 years old I was really never much of a drinker but man are you right about the metabolism of alcohol. After I got on the blood thinner I found out I could drink a lot and it would like just go away and I never got a hangover. And I’m the same way now if I had two margaritas I get a quick buzz and then I’m done
Most brands have “diet” tonic water! My go to cocktail is a Manhattan 2oz whisky 1oz sweet vermouth 1 maraschino cherry, 6 carbs total!
What about low carb beer like pure blonde and pure blonde organic?
My favorite is Diet Cranberry mango juice w Titos Vodka,ice,lime & a dash of Takin chilie powder…mmm good stuff try it
Haven’t had a beer since I started keto over 6 weeks ago. And I really like beer a lot, but oddly it’s been easy to do. If I drink, (which is less than once a week) I stick to my old favorite JD #7. I mix it with the water that melts off off the ice. One of those and I’m pretty much done. Can’t really consume what I used to, which is really great, BTW. I’m down 15 pounds in 6 weeks and almost 30 since the beginning of the year (pre keto…that loss was just being carb conscious and walking 4 miles a day).
Ever since the lock down began I have focused on bringing my health up to the next level. Having done Keto for years that meant going strict carnivore for one and also no alcohol at all. The result has been a marked increase in health, athletic performance, weight loss, improved digestion, and much, much improved sleep. I’ve decided that while I love alcohol, it does not love me, and I don’t want to take the hit from it anymore. Others may feel different no worries, but just sharing my own personal progress.
You may want to go back and look at your Nov 29, 2015 Befit video where you are in a vineyard in Sonoma telling folks that resveratrol in red wine increases your performance 21% then fast forward back to this one where you call red wine’s antioxidant benefit a “joke”. I guess red wine and the reserveratrol ship has sailed. On to new snake oil.

As a amateur wine and whiskey reviewer, I had to cut out all wine when I started my keto journey for the first three months. After that, I had no problem losing the weight while consuming either distilled spirits or wine.
Also, the drier a wine is, the less residual sugar that will be in that wine.
I have a breathalyzer that I use to make sure that I am never over the alcohol limit when I drive. However, I have noticed that since I have been on a Keto diet, even when I haven’t had a drink of alcohol, I am over the limit on my breathalyzer. I am concerned that this could cause some issues if I ever get pulled over by the police and they breathalyze me. Does anyone have any experience with this? Despite not wanting to quit Keto, I am genuinely considering forcing myself out of Ketosis to avoid any potential issues with the law.
Got my answer, Thank you Thomas and honestly my hangover are so bad now that I’m in keto that I’m quitting drinking I feel horrible every time I get a drink ♀️
Does that mean if ur keto u can drink ” diet drinks ” ( im not talking about alcohol here) surely it interferes with insulin? Im i being too strick, i also do IF too, down 12lbs in 25days
