When it comes to “sweating out toxins” in a hot yoga class, many people will do so under the presumption that they can rid themselves of last night’s martini or the plate of chili cheese fries that didn’t sit well in the stomach. While yoga won’t help you sweat these things out, the practice can still offer benefits. And, excess sweating can cause loss of water, which may be more hazardous than the toxins.” Peake noted that activities like hot yoga and drinking more water do.It’s not just hot yoga that promises to help you “sweat out toxins.” Another popular practice includes at-home saunas, which use infrared heat to reach temperatures up to 140 degrees. One popular manufacturer, Sunlight Saunas, states on their website that “sweat carries toxins out of the body and pushes [them] out of the pores.”.
They secrete sweat that’s mainly made up of water and salt. And that’s what’s actually exiting your body when you work up a sweat in yoga—water and salt. The purpose of eccrine gland sweat is to help regulate your body temperature, not unload toxins.
4. “You have to be thin to do yoga.” (Or, alternately, “Yoga makes you thin.”).From infrared saunas to hot yoga, towel-soaking activities are being touted not only as relaxation tools, but also as ways to stay healthy by flushing out toxins. Too bad you can’t sweat away.
For some, hot yoga is the ultimate chill breaker. One popular style, Bikram yoga, is done in a room heated to at least 105⁰ F. Fans say it helps you “sweat out toxins” and achieve deeper poses. The official website of Moksha Yoga (a Canadian hot yoga franchise) claims that sweating “detoxifies the body.” Unless you consider water, salt, and magnesium to be toxic, there is no evidence that sweating flushes impurities from the body. The body has wonderful systems in place for cleansing.
Sweating in a sauna is one of the simplest strategies to reap big health rewards, including releasing heavy metal toxins, urea, bisphenol-A and phthalates as well as improving blood flow, reducing Yes, You Do Sweat Out Toxins. The fact is, sweating is one of the best ways to remove toxins from our body and medical research can actually explain how this happens. We live in a world where industrial toxins have become so prevalent that none of us are free of exposure. But the idea that all the sweating people do in Bikram Yoga class will sweat out toxins makes no sense. Our liver and kidneys take out the toxins when we use the restroom.
Also too much heat and sweating can literally make you sick. Some people have reportedly suffered heat stroke and infections from Bikram Yoga in that heat.Bikram Yoga has attracted a devoted following, and its Web site claims that practicing yoga in the heat improves joint mobility, enhances stretching, reduces the risk of injury, aids circulation, and allows the body to release toxins.A drop of sweat slides down the bridge of your nose and pools on your yoga mat.
The instructor croons, “That’s right, sweat out all of those toxins.” Obligingly, your pores dilate and your skin is soon slick with perspiration. You work through the rest of the routine and leave feeling lighter.Try eating good, real foods (see Michael Pollan), do what relaxes you, and let it go! *** Fable 3: Toxins are eliminated by a hot room. We do have some dirt in our pores, so sweat may work that out. But your sweat glands are not part of your body’s primary and very capable detox system: liver and kidneys, along with lungs and colon.
“Just 15 minutes in the steam room stimulates circulation, increases perspiration, and eliminates toxins,” Dr. Engelman says. All of these are great, but it’s circulation that’s the most exciting: “When the skin gets warm, the capillaries and vessels dilate, causing nutrient-rich blood and oxygen to be brought to the cells,” Rouleau says.2. Your body can actually get rid of ‘toxins’ on its own.
Luckily for us, our bodies are already very good at getting rid of substances that don’t belong in them. “A good example is your lungs,” Rauch says. “They exhale carbon dioxide, of course, and they also have little fibers called cilia that push contaminants out.

If you are demonstarting an asana please do it from the begining and not when u r already in the final posture
I would suggest this acne guide “Vαtαnuz Bdα” (Google it) to any person who is suffering from discovering the right acne cures on their own. Acne has run in my family and I experienced trying out some treatments for acne. Luckly, the acne does disappear with this particular amazing guide..
About your point regarding proprioception: you use the mirror during the Bikram standing series, but during most poses of the floor series, you will not be looking in the mirror. So, Bikram is definitely good for developing proprioception.
I completely relate to your experience feeling lightheaded in class. However, the first breathing exercise and the entire standing series are simply meant to be a warm-up for the floor series, “where the real yoga begins”, and as such, it is perfectly acceptable to take it easy/kneel when necessary.
I’m sorry you went to such a smelly studio! Luckily, in 2019, I think many studios have improved their methods of neutralizing odors. I wish you would revisit a Bikram class. Nowadays, almost all studios DO let you leave the room if you are uncomfortable. Namaste
I read a lot of superb opinions on the internet about how Fopobiacne Secrets can assist you get rid of your acne problem. Has anybody tested out this popular natural acne remedy?
Yay June 2020 and I am still doing it every day! ( I was missing one a month last year, but this year is solid!) I started Yoga with Adriene last summer, as my daughter the wonderful Izzy turned me on to my beloved A!!! Best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I did yoga from a book( Hittleman) 20 odd years ago, and yoga in classes with a lovely teacher in Carmel maybe 3 years after that, but there is no one who inspires me to daily dedication like Adriene! I respect you so much Adriene!
Hello! thank you for this helpful video. By the way, I notice a lot of people keep on talking about natural acne treatment known as Acnezilax Secrets (google it), but I’m not sure if it’s good. Have you thought about Acnezilax Secrets? I’ve heard several unbelivable things about it and my mate finally get rid of her acne problem, using it, but she refuses to tell me: (

I’ve been practicing with you for two years now between your channel and Yoga with Adriene and Yoga with Tim. I wanted to let you know, my life has become vastly different since practicing. Yoga has strengthened my relationships with myself and others. It’s helped me accept and let myself flow. I’ve come to be sensitive to my body mind and soul, knowing what I need for myself. So thank you. I appreciate the work you put into this channel.
I had to play catch up and do both day 14 and 15 of COURAGE today and man do I feel loosened up now!
Hey Adrienne, I have been doing your weight loss videos and following the June calendar, but I don’t feel like I’m getting as deep into the poses as I want to in order to ream the most benefits from your videos. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you for sharing! Your experience was mine exactly the first time, second, then third….then I gave up. I have been practicing yoga for 20+ years, and teaching, mostly for mental benefits, and physical benefits second. I found myself not being able to relax and breath properly when practicing in a 100+ degree space. I know people who love it but just not my thing:)
Namaskaram Hansa Ji,
Let me genuinely humble bow in reverence BENEATH your Glorious Intelligent HEART offer my IMMEASURABLE HUMBLE GRATITUDE to you for your ENDLESSLY WISDOM!!!
Loved the flow! Wish the savasana was a bit longer instead of a jolt to the scene where she’s at park, since the volume was a louder than the actual session!
Phew those were some speedy transitions! Not as gentle today as i thought!
I just really enjoyed you talking in your sauna I was laughing at first because it was so funny with your hands… I think you should just do catch up life stories in there
I go to a hot yoga vinyasa flow where she also guides yin yoga. It feels soooo good to go in a heated studio in the middle of cold weather. The class can be slightly challenging but yes worth it. I always feel better after a good sweat.
Great informationthank you. My gym has a dry saunaI’m going to make more use of it
I do your videos in my bedroom that does not have AC, and it’s a sweaty experience to say the least. It’s probably like 80 degrees maybe?? Couldn’t imagine 108deg yikes hahaha….
Anyway, I think you are an amazing lady, and I love your presence and you’re gorgeous, btw!! Thanks for the videos every week and the amazing emails. I especially loved the teddy roosevelt quote, I shared it with some people in a fitness community I’m in. Take care!!
when I heard about hot yoga it just confused me so much and I thought hot must mean something non-temperature related because the idea of adding more heat to an already heat inducing workout just sounds like a recipe for severe dehydration, heat exhaustion, even heat stroke (I’m assuming you don’t need sun for that)
speaking of skin, you have beautiful skin. What do you do/use?
It still surprise me, how a lot of people don’t know about Acnezilax Secrets (search on google), despite the fact that lots of people get good results with this natural acne remedy. Thanks to my buddy who told me about Acnezilax Secrets, I’ve completely get rid of my acne problem, and finally can say goodbye to embarrassment
Actually fell over on the pose at 16.00. I’m struggling with the flow from one pose to another. I tend to take some time moving from planks to lunges. Keep trying I guess.
Mold grows well indefinitely in the dark when other environmental conditions favor its development. In warm areas, mold grows faster in the dark, where increased moisture means a higher relative humidity. You have to be careful in these hot studios bacteria, MRSA. I went to a hot yoga class once and became very ill, I will never go back.
Sounds like you got into a Bikram class, that’s a special mind of hellish hot yoga.
Lots of hot yoga classes are really relaxed. But the heat can be difficult.
Sounds like u had a all around bad 1class experience. Ive been doing hot yoga for 3 strait consistent months and I’ve never felt or looked better! So sorry that your first timer experience was obviously nothing like mine. Everyone looking to try it Try googling and reading reviews before u taking a big head first leap at it. Don’t let 1 persons bad experience ruin it for yourself
A new hot yoga studio has opened in my home town (it is not Bikram). They had an introductory offer for a month. I took it up. The studio is purpose built, so no smelly carpet. Honestly, I was exhausted afterward each class but you became addicted to it, as completing a class in the heat is a feat in itself. I haven’t feel well for the past 3 weeks so haven’t been going. I went to the Dr and I have been diagnosed with Shingles (without the rash). The only thing I can think of that would have caused my body enough stress to give me shingles for the first time in my life, is the hot yoga. 90 mins is a long time in that heat so I will stick with Myyogapal!
I have lupus, so hot yoga is not an option. But paying to be treated like a child-no. Nope.
Hello everyone and thank you Adriene! it feels so gooood to practice Yoga regularly AND to be aware that many people of this community all over the globe are sharing this practice and „the sensation“!! Lots of love from Germany to all of you stay connected…and safe & healthy
I live in Australia, it’s been roughly 40-43 degrees for a week now. All my yoga is hot yoga.
Today June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, I want to share the following talk with you #yogawithadriene kula: Compassion, loving kindness and care.

So ironic. Yoga is meant to make you feel good, and hundreds of people have the same types of experiences with hot yoga. My gf threw up after the class for two days straight, I got a crazy headache, dizzy, felt like poop etc with bikram. I’ve tried hot yoga (not bikram) with my sister who loves it, and I have to drink TONS of water before hand, and really listen to my body, and stop with the slightest bit of discomfrot. But I have also felt really good coming out of a hot yoga session (granted the teacher was soooo nice, and so soft, and kind and told us to rest whenever etc etc..) So I have had both positive and negative experiences. I get both sides but honestly….I’d rather do yoga outside during the summer:) and with your videos, its free! Win win for all:D
These voiceover videos are my absolute favorites. The soft music and smooth verbal cues really help me stay in the moment and improve my flow. I never get enough of them!!
Hot yoga is overrated
And it’s really not for everyone
I tried it before and it was hard to focus on poses because the heat was so intense
I had a similar experience after doing vinyasa and ashtanga at that time for like 10 years…. I couldn’t even make it through the class, I felt claustrophobic and the last one I went to, the third try,she got mad at me for leaving. But I said I felt like something bad was going to happen my body was vibrating and I couldn’t breathe. She was upset I didn’t stay put, then she said “do you eat meat”? And I said no, she said Bikram says you have to eat meat to do hot yoga. I was like ok see ya later lol.
I totally agree with you! I tried hot yoga a couple of times and it was just a horrible experience. I couldn’t breathe and the sweat was distracting me from my practice. Also….a guy fainted in my class! I just knew it wasn’t for me….no thanks! Keep speaking your truth!:)
My yoga teacher training was hot yoga and after practicing in the heated studio we had to sit and do our lesson in the hot studio. I threw up the first evening and had headaches. I am grateful for the training and loved my teacher but it’s not for me!!
Yeah, I’m definitely not trying hot yoga. It seems very uncomfortable, unhealthy and unnecessary. Fightmaster yoga is hot enough, thank you.
Hmm to me it sounds like your blood pressure was dropping in the heat which happens a lot actually. I have generally low blood pressure but it is perfect for me and never have issues but hot yoga can make me feel dizzy.
I can only do hot yoga once a month. My body replenishes itself thanks to my Menstrual cycle anyway and even if you don’t have that, your body cleanses itself just by going to the bathroom. This whole thing of toxins is BULL you cleanse yourself daily by going to the bathroom and just drink extra water if you are worried about “toxins”
I am glad I am not the only one! I tried hot yoga and had the same experience as you! I also taught at a hot yoga studio and the smell of feet… and the wet sweaty carpet… yuck
The only thing I can say is. I wish someone would tell me I have to stay somewhere I don’t wanna be. I’t will not be pretty!
Thank you so very much for the Informations you Share! I’m very grateful for having found you! much blessings!✨✨✨
Not gonna lie I struggled to keep up this time but we got it done in the end:D
I haven’t tried hot yoga because I already just “run hot” I’m usually warm in a regular yoga class. But it seems like the classes you mention were weirdly strict. Hopefully that’s not the case with most hot yoga classes/instructors. I’m 100% sure as someone who has watched your videos for a few years that as an instructor you’re looking out for the well being and safety of all of your students. Why would you put up with an instructor who isn’t looking out for yours?
I feel exactly the same about hot yoga, i started with hot yoga years ago and i felt so weak hours after, it was actually really bad for my skin because i got eczema. I am glad i didn’t give up on yoga and then tried other non hot yoga classes and fell in love with yoga ♀️
I know so many folks who love it…I still haven’t tried it! I’m afraid I’ll pass out! I’m a yoga teacher and people ask me about it all the time. Your comments really help me put into words how I feel about it so I can better share with my students!
I really appreciate your yoga class outside! Especially in this park! Namaste
I tried a community warm (not even hot) class once years ago. The heat gets in the way of mind-body connection. You can’t do that when you’re worried about sliding and not being able to hold your poses. Never again.

I’m not sure I wanna try hot yoga.
Hi Lesley, can you please share with us books that have inspired you in your yoga practice?
I live in Thailand and have no AC in my room, sometimes I feel like I am practising hot yoga
On a sunny Monday morning in London, best therapy! Namaste
I love bikram yoga but I totally understand people may not like it; it is kind of extreme. I do not know about Orange county, but in my place teachers specifically say before the class begins that if someone does not feel able do any asana it is perfectly OK to rest it out. Call out someone, or engage in any kind of competition besides oneself, is anti-yoga by definition.
BTW Lesley, you have the sweetest voice on Earth…
I love this flow! I wanted to try the video in the upper right corner at the end during the exit music, but couldn’t seem to get to it by clicking on it, and I don’t see a title, anyone know how to get to that video?
You are very sweet and have a very soothing tone of voice. My gi dr recommended yoga for my IBS to reduce stress in my life. He has been doing it for 30 yrs and says if he misses a day he can tell. SOOO….I am going to take his advice. Looking forward to starting with your videos.
When you’re also shooing an ant off your mat at the exact moment Adriene mentions shooing an ant off her mat… except you’re indoors
My personal belief is that the breath is naturally meant to help warm up the body to it’s perfect natural temperature. through this practice we sweat, we move and can feel each movement along with knowing our limit physically. it all comes back to ahimsa, i do not believe the practice of ahimsa is present in hot yoga, which would defeat the word yoga beside hot. with that said, i hold no judgement against anyone who enjoys the practice and have been told by many that they love it and it has helped them tremendously. In the end, whatever gets people moving and brings calmness i can be happy about that. I am so happy you decided to post this video to bring us more perspectives.
You should all listen to the ESPN podcast on Bikram yoga, it’s really interesting
Hey girl! First I want to say I love your classes. Second I totally understand how that situation wasn’t good to be in! It doesn’t sound very inviting! I am a yoga teacher and I teach hot yoga. The room is not ever THAT hot and I’m a nice person to my students. We practice dynamic and static stretches throughout and I make sure my students dont push too far. Well as much as a teacher can do. With that note, it is a challenge cause it’s at a gym where people want well…workout yoga to say. Not my favorite classes to teach but I think with the right teacher it can be good! If you are ever in Casper Wyoming, Lifetime does a good job at keeping it safe. We are not mean
That practice is dangerous, you were having heatstroke and he forced you to stay, as a lifeguard if I forced someone to stay in the hot sun when they had heatstroke I’d probably end up in jail… as should that yoga teacher, what he was doing was incredibly dangerous.
Also “toxins” aren’t what made you dizzy, it was 100% the heat, your brain forces you to faint to get your heart and brain in line to increase bloodflow and prevent you dying, you were feeling dizzy because your brain was saying “she’s working too hard and we are overheating, i need to get her on the floor so she stops working and we don’t die”
I agree with all of this. Hot yoga is dangerous for all the reasons you mentioned, and the idea of “toxins” in the body is essentially made up to market diets and products if you have toxins in your body, your liver/kidneys/etc should be taking care of it, and if they’re not, you need medical treatment, not hot yoga. I also have a distaste for hot yoga because yoga, at its core, is a spiritual practice that in India is practically religious for some people. It seems offensive to me to turn it into this sort of negative, unhealthy environment that is so far from where it originated. That’s why your channel is my favorite, Lesley I feel constantly reminded that this practice is about breath and connecting to the body, not physical achievement, and not only do I love that, but it feels like the most respectful way to practice in the West.
Interesting anecdote about how Bikram hot yoga was started in response to the room being so cold… When I tried hot yoga it was summer time in Miami beach and when the teacher put the heaters on I thought, this doesn’t make any sense it’s already So hot. I felt like I was going to pass out a couple times but at the end I did feel like every single pore in my body opened up. I never tried it again however because the hardcoreness of it wasn’t too inviting. Thank you for your perspective.
Yet another absolutely wonderful yoga sequence of yours. I have been following your videos for almost two months now and they have helped me finding balance in a very rough time! Not only the yoga, but you as a person have an amazing uplifting effect thank you!!
Actually I can’t avoid doing “hot yoga” specially in summer. That’s because I live in Rio de Janeiro:P
Never tried this type of classes, I don’t even know if there are classes offered in my city because, well, we already feel enough “hot” in the daily basis! Good explanation Lesley, loved these videos. Thank you!
Also another question for Leslie and anyone else who wants to chime in but what’re your thoughts about this newer trend that’s starting in NYC about “Cold Yoga”? And I’m not joking, there’s a couple of studios in NYC that specialize is combing yoga with Cryotherapy!
I’m interested to know from you Leslie and anyone else who would love to comment… but what is the fine line temperature where the yoga class becomes a “hot” or non hot yoga class. I teach one hot yoga class a week and that studio keeps it at 90 and it can change depending on the weather outside. But whenever I teach a non-heated class, I like keeping the room at 76-77 during the warm seasons and 78-80 during the colder seasons. I don’t feel like 80 is “hot” but I feel the room is at an appropriate amount of warmth especially during the winter season. I don’t like “cold” rooms (but that’s a preference influenced by my Vata dosha).
I love your practices, especially the yin/restorative. Love your quotes, your voice, the instruction. I so agree with you about hot power yoga. At my gym it is the most popular style of yoga-but is it really yoga…or just gymnastics on a yoga mat? The pace is so fast that no one is linking breath to movement (if they are, they are hyperventilating!). People think they are getting rid of toxins (hello, your liver does that every second of the day) and burning calories. But in today’s world, we need to calm down our nervous system, not ramp them up. I used to be intimidated by yoga instructors and followed all their protocol, including the not drinking water part-even during a hot yoga class-but until I have a yoga instructor who is also a MD and who knows me and my body, sipping water is something I will continue doing. The rationale for hot yoga is that yoga started in India and India is hot, but c’mon. Most of us are not Indian. And we aren’t even doing yoga in the most traditional way. I don’t think Indians years ago were practicing yoga wearing expensive leggings! Time to keep it real and remember that yoga is enough without all the gimmicks. We don’t need to drink beer and or have goats climbing over us when doing yoga. I knew an instructor who said “We don’t live to do yoga better. We do yoga to live better.” I don’t think a room filled with 40 people that’s 108 degrees before all the bodies squeeze in where you are going as fast as you can while the instructor barks instructions while blasting hip hop music with lyrics that are anything but yogic enbales me to live better. But your videos do! Many thanks.
I live in North Idaho and our winters can be tough — where you feel cold to your bones at some times. I’ve considered going to hot yoga just to hang out in child’s pose and get warm in those cold dark months , otherwise not a lot of interest from me. I also really enjoy inversions and don’t feel like I’d do them as well if I was super sweaty. But everyone is different, and I love that yoga is for all bodies and all tastes ☺️
Adriene, I love this flowing 20 minute workout, perfect for my present stress. You have restored my positivity, sending my love and gratitude ♀️♀️
Not sure why not liking hot yoga will be controversial. I love it but also like to try other types which is how I found you. I’m blessed to go to a studio that is more about your inner being. If you need to take a break, take a break. Some instructors will tell you how to correct your poses but they don’t yell at you. This made me appreciate them more. I haven’t tried another studio so I’ll stick with them.
Thank you for your insight as an amazing Yogini on how it may not be good to do Bikram so often..:) I loved it and wouldn’t mind it once in a whilebut that ish drained my Chiesp in the summer.
I love your channel! Thank you for your peace presence every morning in the comfort of my home
Courage Day 15 done ✅ & did someone say this was a 20 minute practice? Felt more like 5 mins… Hot & sweaty and ready for Monday action. Nameste
Hi Leslie, have you seen the netflix documentary about Bikram? Lots to consider about this “guru” besides his meanness…
Ashtanga yoga was my introduction to yoga. And I love it!
Thanks for your authenticity! I teach yoga in Texas and get ask this question all the time. I respond similar and suggest yoga outside in the summer. Namaste…. Love your channel!
It sounds like the only type of hot yoga you have tried is Bikram. I didn’t enjoy Bikram either, but found a nice compromise with hot power flow or vinyasa. Regardless no yoga teacher should ever be forcing someone to stay in a hotel room when they feel like they are going to pass out.
My first time, I felt great. 2nd time, was the dizzy, nauseated, smelly…just like your experience. I went about 5 more times. It was OK but very boring. I felt like it focused more on the actual poses than getting anything out of it. I’ll say, though, that the instructor did encourage hydrating and pausing if you felt light-headed. I haven’t been back. I do, however, like “heated” yoga practices.
My aunt has a sauna like that but from a different company. Now that I’m about to go into a 7-Day detox I’m going to borrow the sauna from her. is it best to do this procedure in the morning when you wake up during the day or before you go to bed during the 7-Day Detox. thankz.
Thank you!! You have helped me in so many ways over the years and this one I can’t wait to put into practice, mostly the last one that is new to me! I would also love it if you would maybe put out some thing on calling in your love, I watch over and over an interview you did a year or so ago and it would be amazing if you could go into this further… Sending love always…
Thank for sharing Leslie! I have tried hot yoga for my first time this year in California:I was skeptical but I later found it has its own benefits like the sweating, the mirror etc..still, I do agree with you that it is so much better for me to practice listening to my body in a room temperature environment because I get more improvement. I do believe that each one of us is different and that’s why there are SO many types of yoga and fitness programs and sport disciplines!:)
Take care and keep up the good work!
Damn the teachers youu had sound like jerks. Very against the principles of yoga, pretty ironic really. Agree with you on the hot yoga. Personally I just don’t see the point. I sweat way too much and therefore more focused on getting the burning sweat out of my eyes than the poses. Each to their own.
I did Bikrams for about 6 months. I hated being so hot and my muscles felt over extended all the time. When I made sure to be hydrated, the dizziness was minimal but it was still never comfortable or even remotely connected to the spiritual practice that I associate yoga with! Blech!
None of this sounds ok! Horrifying…. and I hate just sweating like that. Your yoga gets me hot enough! Thanks for the insight and opinion.
I had the same exact experience that you did when I tried hot yoga! I was wearing regular yoga clothes, not knowing you’re supposed to wear a loincloth, so I was way overdressed. The teacher was super mean, which in my mind was antithetical to everything I had ever known about yoga. The room was carpeted and smelly and moist and gnarly. Everything went black a bunch of times and I had to lay down almost the entire class! After a while I literally crawled out the door, soaked, and ran out the door.
Not allowing people to modify and shaming people is so antithetical to what i love about yoga and why I practice. Gross.
This is great info. You should start a podcast, as the other girl stated. Ive never tried hot yoga because it looks torturous!!! My suspicions have been confirmed by you! Love ya Girl!
How are you supposed to get toxins outbof your brain if you don’t expose it to the infrared light?
I love this video, but I can never do the squat bc of my knee pain. Does someone know what can I do instead?
Thank you for saying this! I don’t like it either. I have tried to like it… I really have, but I just don’t. You are not alone!
I can’t breathe with hot yoga! Thank you for your wonderful videos. xoxo
I thought hot yoga was something else entirely and now I’m very disappointed….
Not every hot yoga experience is like yours. Not all of them are “bikram style”, feet-smelling, terribly humid, have mirrors and are at 108F with strict teachers who dont allow you to leave. I would imagine doing yoga at such difficult conditions can be problematic for anyone. Maybe people get triggered because by one experience you dismiss an entire sub practice of yoga. But to each their own!
Awww, It’s unfortunate you had such a bad experience with hot yoga. The first time I tried it thought I would not make it. The teacher was great though, offered modifications and allowed anyone to rest when they needed a break. The studio was clean and thank God it’s not carpeted. I loved it! Due to finances, I can only go twice a month. I practice with you everyday, you are still my inspiration. I have imperfections, but I know it’s ok… you taught me that…and I’m so forever grateful
I took my dosha quiz (pitta/hot), I live in Arizona…I’m acclimated to hot, but i don’t enjoy it. At least it’s dry here!!! If we have summer rain…forget moving. Breathing isn’t allowed.
I do not like heat if I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Also, if you go to a sweat lodge…seizures can happen.

Guys, cure your acne naturally does not need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I’ll give you some advice right now. Look for a natural acne remedy known as Acnezilax Secrets (google it). Seriously, that treatment has transformed my life. I probably should not even be talking about it because I do not want a bunch of other guys out there running the same “game” but whatever, I am in a good mood today so I’ll share the wealth haha.
I cannot thank you enough for speaking on this topic as an experienced Yogi. I practiced massage therapy right around the time that hot yoga was gaining popularity here on the East coast. I worked with a few clients with injuries sustained through hot yoga. However, I also have a few friends who practiced hot yoga often who never suffered any ill effects and swore by it. It’s not for everyone. What’s most important is listening to your body, which is what I practice when doing yoga.
Tnku for the information mam. Where are your institute place?
Thank you for your inspiration through total integrated health, fun and spirtual practices! Releasing the Frozen shoulder & thyroid issues. I love you Dr Northrup!
I love listening to everything that comes out of your mouth:)
You say you are going to discuss why you should keep your ovaries. How does this relate if you are a BRCA2 carrier? I would love your opinion on that. Ty
Hi Christiane, great content. Without a doubt, grounding or Earthing is a great option to keep our overall body balance… you can find quality grounding products at https://grooniearthing.com/

Great video Dr Northrup which I have shared with many. Thank you

Who else tried lifting their right foot up towards the sky at 9:44?
(This has been my favourite flow by Adriene for years, so happy to see it having a comeback on the June 2020 calendar)
I could just imagine how hot in can get…but I live in the tropics with no AC in my small living room where I practice. I’m contented with Power vinyasa, hot enough for me. With ujayyi pranayama, yes, I can generate enough heat from within. And from your description of a ‘sweaty feet smell’ of the room, i’m sure I can’t tolerate it, I would pass out. I’m thankful enough, I found teachers like you. Happy with my home practice… Namaste

You are so incredible. My mom introduced your work to me when I was 16 I’m 20 now and your outlook on women’s health and your work helped me SO MUCH coming into the world and with surviving as a young woman, with so many toxic and preditory influences out there in our modern culture, it’s so nice to see a doctor who tells the truth. Thank you so much for reviving truth in the medical feild and being a voice for woman and for people, thank you for all that you do. You are a huge source of healing and inspiration.
I use ashwaganda for sleep now that I am in in my menopausal years
The first time I was dragged to a yoga class was a hot yoga. Not only I nearly killed my friend, but I thought I was dying lol. We were in a small room, some 25 of us. I was right under the heaters. Not even 10 mns in, i gave up. My clothes were sticking to me and I could hardly breath. Never ever again. After a few months I went to a “normal” yoga session. Teacher was so amazing I was hooked. But hot yoga, hell no. Not for me! I like to breath when I do yoga, not suffocate. That said, hands up to the ones who can do it.
This is excellent, thank you. I’m currently reading your book “The Wisdom of Menopause”. I so appreciate your help and wisdom, and the sharing of your journey. I hope to share this video with my 20 year old son, someday.

Native American Indians know this, barefoot walking, respect for earth, water, air we breathe etc… and especially our Creator of the earth. We are the cartakers of the earth. Too bad they did not want us to do this, that’s why they killed alot of them off. We all have a role in this world, EVERY RACE contributes to it. We are all shades of brown, light brown to dark brown, yes that means you too white light color folks. We all need to get back to our roots. “One Divine Creator,” not many. Too, too “many pagan gods,” is what got people into trouble, in the first place. Watch how you pray, and who you are praying to, who you listen to, respect your mind, heart, body and spirit, only then you will have respect for others. Yes I’m a Native.
Your message came across with such a motherly feeling of love. Thank you Dr Northrup. Although I was previously aware of all the tips you shared and have been practising them for some years, I greatly appreciate the way you spoke about it. God bless you. The world needs more doctors like you. ❤
Totally get the smelly feet carpet thing PEEEUUW!! And as a retired professional dancer and dance teacher who’s done a ton of lovely yoga in LA, the one hot yoga class I ever did came as a bad shock when the very bossy teacher told me to LOCK my knee when standing on one leg, I was out of there. SUPER dangerous and irresponsible teaching. I’ll never go back!
Ditto! Despite glowing evangelist mates I really didn’t like getting yelled at in an overheated sweaty room either. My inner drill-instructor is loud enough…
Thanks a lot mam for ur valuable information. That information will very beneficial to all mankind’s.
Coconut oil gives me itching.. Can u suggest something to b applied frequently on vitiligo patches or on overall dry skin.. I live in Belgium.. Winter aggravates my dryness and also woolen clothes doesn’t suit and makes me uneasy.. Suggestions will help. God bless

Can someone explain the foods that were mentioned after Dahls at 13:45?
Now how is this controversial? If you don’t enjoy being baked alive in your own sweat, there shain’t be anything wrong with that. Especially if its that hot and stinky.
Toxins in the body? I bet a person who doesn’t eat all that will still get dizzy. It’s HOT and STINKY. That will make someone faint from the stuffiness.
Good afternoon Hansaji,
I have problem in stomach cyst,is that can be solve by yoga??

Free radicals are toxic byproducts of oxygen metabolism that can cause significant damage to living cells and tissues in a process called “oxidative stress.” The vitamins and minerals the body uses to counteract oxidative stress are called antioxidants.
Fried foods, alcohol, tobacco smoke, pesticides, air pollutants, and many more cause free radicals. Free radicals can cause damage to parts of cells such as proteins, DNA, and cell membranes by stealing their electrons through a process called oxidation.
Thanks a ton, if you could sum up the tips given in the end would be awesome…
Vitiligo included in this?
Or any special treatment from what mentioned?
Your smile can alone can save someone from depression I swear! Her voice is top tier.

Yessss…I never wear shoes in the summer. Just something about my feet on the actual ground.
It is a sweaty kind of day, so why not swear more and reap the benefits and the feel good flow.
So sweet to see you at this stage! So young, so different yet still so much the same! <3 If you'd only known what was ahead of you. Wonder if you ever could have guessed?
Great yoga session for morning detox but when you do these narrated videos can you slow them down a little as it was quite rushed trying to follow
Definitely broke a sweat ♀️
Direct and practical strategy on how to eliminate the factors that cause acne are talked about in this acne guide “Vαtαnuz Bdα” (Google it). I have suffered acne conditions for quite a while now and I am excited to give the recommendations in this guide a go. I will definitely recommend this guide to my friends..
As much as I would love to rock and roll with Adriene it hurts my back too much:( does anyone else have this issue? I have scoliosis so not sure if that’s why, but I wish it could feel like a nice massage for me like it does for others
I remember doing this practice 5 years ago when I first discovered YWA. Time goes by so quickly.
I enjoy your videos, very informative, didnt even know they had these saunas. BTW Im trying to not eat dairy any good cheese substitutes you can recommend?
i don’t even know how many times i’ve done this practice now, i always come back to it
one of my all-time favs <3
morning Adrienne, this was a great practice today. I have arthritis in my knees, and find staying down in the lower squat position painful & difficult. Any suggestions on how to improve on this?
My Rocking posture is really improving and my lunges as well so thanks for this one Namaste and good night ❤

Doing day 15 on 16th but it doesn’t matter, any day is a good day for yoga:)
This would be one video that would be great slowed down to yield longer holds.

This one is so beautiful. I’ve been feeling so bad, this helps.
Wow! COURAGE Day 15 was excellent! Thanks for what you do Adriene!:)
Hi, Autumn! I’ve done your 7 day detox before and am about to again! I love all the recipes. I understand the reasons for no added sugar while incorporating foods that promote detoxification (like lentils), but are there any other rules for foods during the detox? Like let’s say other fruits besides the recommended green apples and berries or veggies that are not in the recipes? Thanks in advance!!
Does it really help with acne? I’m a huge fan of Bikram yoga!:)

I think it all depends on which studio you go to. I have been to those extreme hot yoga studios where its carpet, it smells, the teacher and rules are way too strict, and its all about how “good” it is for you. Then I have been to a lovely studio that had different levels of heat depending on the class (ranging from about 88° to 102°). Solid floors and the use of sanitizing diffusers. They encouraged breaks in yogic positions (such as child’s pose) for as long as needed and even stopped to give mini back massages to those who chose to take one. Hot yoga is definently not for everyone, but the right introduction to it can make a world of difference.
I find it frustrating that it is such a fad here in the US. I practiced Ashtanga in India for a month and they made it clear that they practice in the morning BEFORE the sun rises to avoid the heat. You already create your own agni via ujjayi breathing, so it is overwhelming to the body to have all of that external heat. Being frustrated with all the studios here doing American hot yoga is what led me to your channel. I’m sad I do not have a community to practice with here, but I’m thankful I found your channel as a motivator to continue my yoga journey. <3
I first did this practice a few months ago and found I was constantly stopping to pause and check the screen and I struggled with it. After doing 6 months of YWA it’s amazing the difference I found doing this one again! Doing a bit of yoga everyday has definitely changed me. I still find the rear arm extension in forward fold really tricky though. I can clasp my hands together but they are not going up and over my head at all! Anyone got any tips or is it just a case of working on loosening my shoulders to eventually allow me to raise my arms more than an inch or two? Namaste x
Day 15 Courage This was very much needed, great start to a week that desperately needs some productivity! super excited for this upcoming days, doing what feels good never felt better… namaste
Does anyone know how I can adjust the playback speed? This was an awesome video but the pace was just a bit too fast for me hahaha.
I love hot yoga and where I am practicing people can lie down and take a break and also drink water if needed. The floor is not carpeted. I cannot imagine a carpeted floor for hot yoga! You need to come well hydrated to the class. But, as many things in life, we have choices and we should try different things and decide what is best for ourselves. I tried hot yoga 26 and I love it!
What were they doing? Holding you hostage? I would have told that “teacher” to $%#$ off and left. People like that give yoga a bad stigma that scares people away.
Day 15 of Courage and I amazed myself with moves I could not do before. Thank you!
SO WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?
WHY SHOULD ANYONE CARE ABOUT YOU IDEAS?
I love this video! Thank you for shearing your view! Is Ashtanga considered hot yoga? I tried ashtanga and I liked that the room is warm. but I probably wouldn’t like when it’s hot I haven’t tried Birkham yoga. I find mirrors distracting too. I would practice in front of the mirror at home once in a while to get that connection between the alignment and how the body feels but when I’m in the studio I really like to pay attention to my “inside”.
Good way to wake up this morning! Cannot have enough love for these voiceover practices.
Is Fopobiacne Secrets useful to get rid of your acne problem? We have read a lot of good things about Fopobiacne Secrets (google search it).
I’m so sorry you had such bad experiences with it!! I did Bikram for years and to this day I still love it. I would go back if it didn’t cost so much and wasn’t such a time suck lol. Because it takes a LOT of prep, such as hydration, not being hungry but not being full and dressing properly… And so on lol. But it was so therapeutic for me. After a time it put me into a medatative state.. It’d just be me, my mat, and the teacher’s voice. It also actually helped me heal my sprained ankle lol. I’ve been thinking about going back primarily because I’ve been so out of alignment and my muscles need the love after so much weight lifting. All this talking about it makes me miss it so much!! It just makes me so sad when I hear of bad experiences with it. The studio I went to (go to?) Is super helpful and all about taking care of yourself by taking rests and what not. I cringe when I hear of the militant style that happens in other studios. Bikram actually led to me Ashtanga because they both follow a particular set of poses. However, Bikram’s poses are definitely simpler haha. And it’s not nearly as hard to find a studio My dream would be to open a studio for both. But I hear the two practices aren’t fond of each other. That’s not very yogic
Day 15 Courage This was very much needed, great start to a week that desperately needs some productivity!
loved it!!!<3 helped me feel grounded and in sync with my body!
still one of my most loved practices, time flies by and I feel great during and after.
still a favorite… you need to bring the shades back… maybe hide them in the background and see if anyone catches them…:-)
I don’t like doing ANY sort of exercise in the heat! I like it if I can have the room a little cool. I suppose everyone’s heat tolerance is different, but I would be very uncomfortable.
This was exactly what I needed today, thank you. Great flow. Definitely adding this to my favourites list
Gooooood morning! Well that was a sneaky, cheeky little practice stronger than expected, and therefore rather perfect for a good start to a new week. Thank you, Adriene.
Amazing amount of movement packed into just 20 minutes not rushed though, just a gentle flow! Thank you Adriene xx Namaste
I almost kept up with this voice over version,. Tough still!
Two months doing your classes and I’m feeling fantastic. Thank you Adriene. Now, I have noticed that my lower back hurts when doing Cobra Pose, so I’m wondering, which kind of adjustment shall I make to avoid that?
100% agree with you, Lesley! Especially on how the teachers were always singling someone out in front of the whole class. That’s just so mean, right? I started my yoga journey with hot yoga. I’m so glad I didn’t quit yoga because of that. I’m so glad I found you and your channel. I’m so glad I am so hooked on yoga these days. (There, 3 things I am grateful for:)) You are a rock star! Your yoga fix90 was my life saver! I can never thank you enough! ❤️
Needed this today! Got back into daily practise during lockdown and, like every time I get back into it, I wonder why I ever stopped! I feel amazing!
Great advice thanks, I have low vitamin D, I live in Oregon sometimes we don’t see the sun for days
I wonder if standing on grass barefoot is considered grounding. Or does it have to be dirt?
Day 15 Courage! I paused the video at the end to lie longer in savasana, then noticed oh, there is still another minute. I will let the soft music play. Nope. As soon as I did that there was Adriene with a loud Okee doke! I had to laugh. Just as well. ❤
Simply put Hot Yoga works, the reason I do Yoga is to feel good, and nothing else I have ever done has given me that feeling of contentment to the degree hot yoga has and how accessible it is on a daily basis, Hot yoga is a very important tool in our society which is well needed, I average about 250 classes per year I never had a injury or seen anybody else, injuries still occur in a non heated rooms so I dont know why you want to push a negative vibe onto something that promotes clean living, and helps people feel good, I dont care who invented it or the history, it works
I remember doing this an year ago and thinking it was the hardest workout ever. Now I did it smiling and barely broke a sweat. I’m not saying it’s easy I’m just amazed by my own progress. <3 Yoga found me after a bad break up and it brought me back to what really mattersloving yourself. Thank you Adriene for everything that you do <3.
My goodness detox is right! Shedding all the unneeded and unwanted in my body, mind, and spirit. Namaste all
Felt a little fast. I prefer when you are actually guiding through the yoga poses when you are doing it rather than adding dubbing narrative later. Thank you so much. Xxx
I was feeling groggy after waking up early and this has helped to properly wake me up before work. Thank you Adriene and fellow yogis! xx
Wonderful information and that is a big gift that we can listen to female guru!Thank you all very much for all your great videos!A lady interviewer is beautiful too!❤
Its funny to me that simply sharing your opinion about not liking something upsets anyone. Maybe you should do a meditation video focused on allowing others to be who they are without feeling the need to bitch at them about it.:) thanks for posting this Leslie. I 100% feel the same as you. Which is why I prefer doing your videos daily on my own or with my friends.
Ma’am can you please suggest me any solutions about Facial hair removal & body hair also…
You are worshipping Hindu Gods That’s the meaning of Yoga it’s the deception of these end times
If you don’t want to get heat stroke drink water also my mom owns a hot yoga studio no deaths yet its healthy and people have lost a lot of weight from it and its not dangerous this is just another rumor so dont listen to this
