Have a look at the Scott rc supertrac ultras… wont buy anything else now… awesome shoe. good spread of shoes guys.
I’ve never done any substantial trail running outside of XC in high school and college. Does anyone have any recommendations on stability trail shoes? I have a pancake for a foot.
Hoka Evo Mafate 2 are just superb for ultra distances. I’m curious about inov8 though
I WEAR BRANDpower (BATA), CHEAP AND BEST. ONLY COST 10 DOLLARS
Salomon S/Lab Sense 6 SG has been a nice light shoe for a variety of trails
#timetofly Hoka every time for the trails I absolutely love my Speedgosts. Unless its an absolute mudfest then its Inov8 Mudclaws, they are like tractor tyres.
Hi Seth, please help me with your best opinion on a flat trail shoes with lots of caution and responsiveness, nothing that i have easily get shin splints and knees issues that puts me into bed for days, should be stylish too:)
Old Bloke who doesn’t particularly like off-road view: very important as I get older to feel comfortable on downhill sections obviously in wet footpath/grassy. Plus; back/pelvis/hip area achey-painy.
I’ve tried various, here are my thoughts.
Off road running is often laborious and with a range of terrain(s) on the same course: friendly footpaths, trailway, tree roots, gravel, stone, mud, deeper mud, puddles, up hills and down dales.
Often there are sections of (good old) asphalt.
Tripping over tree roots (rabbit holes, tree trunks on course etc) is is an occupational/running technique/concentration issue for those wearing £20….£120…. shoes.
Gore Tex (or equivalent) if deep mud/puddles (small lakes) are expected is an unnecessary expense wet feet will result.
Gimmicky lacing systems (sic) bs detected (?). I use elastic laces that replace ordinary laces £1.50(ish) a pair.
I have heard this at events “I haven’t worn my (insert expensive brand of off roaders here) because there’s quite a bit of road running involved”
Some mud will cover any lugs, grips, sole…. of any shoe. Scraping, kicking against a wall/tree/static passerby (tangential: the only word I know that is made plural by putting an ‘s’ IN the word) and ultimately running through puddles will clear it no matter the cost of the shoe.
I’m a middle-aged, middle of the pack, runner (tho age category success does occur). I want a shoe that gives me the confidence to run down slippery slopes > roads > farm tracks > any usual surface.
I use (I have 3 pairs) Lidl own brand off roaders (waterproof) £18 per pair. Karrimore (when they are on sale price £25ish) 3 pairs.
The Lidl shoes contain no Bullcrappium ©® to increase the cost.
My opinions are based on only 11 years of running however;
I have run nearly 100 marathons/short ultras up to 77 miles…. too many of these were off road for my liking.
60 (ish) other races 5k21miles, some of those also being off road.
Sorry to sound opinionated….
My top three:
Brooks Caldera mark 1, Hoka Torrent and the Saucony Peregrine 8.
I just picked up Last year Salomon S-lab Sense 6 SG. Awesome deal running warehouse.
I put it on and want to run. I’m a minimalist runner and think for me it’s a 50k to 50 miler maybe maybe more.love everything about it.

Guys, this is useful, Thanks! I am road to park/forest type of runner. Butchered my left foot by running up hill on grass… Currently own asics but hate them so missing my mizuno wave inspire. Will you be recommending any mizunos in the next video? I need something that will save me from blistes on the inner arch… So extra support? Also long 7.5uk size and narrow foot
Nike Peg Trail fan here, I found the speedcross to be too easy to bend (too flexible), which was hard for my feet
VJ Sports are my favourite for trails, XTRM’s for when its muddy and for OCR’s and MAXX for longer distances
I am a Hoka fan. Clifton for the road and Torrent for the trails. Love your videos!!!
Awesome thank you so much for sharing your love of running!!!!
QOD: in 2019 I only tried two trail shoes, the Hoka Torrent and the Brooks Cascadia 14. The Hoka Torrent is honestly one of my favorite shoes ever, and I think it slips a lot of people’s radar! It’s lightweight, very responsive, has a pretty solid outsole tread, and it loves moving quickly with a high cadence. The Brooks Cascadia is for my longer, slower or more technical runs as it’s got a rockplate and much better outsole
i run most trails in salomon s-lab sense 6 SG. the 8 version is out, got these at a super discount. looking for something with a wider toe box for longer then 50k and training days. altra or TOPO
salomon speedcross 5 or saucony mad river tr for winter running shoe with a mix of pavement and snowpack roads/trails?
Dude, you need to try the Topo Mountain Racer & Topo UltraVenture
Never ever Salomon again!!! Try LaSportiva Wildcat or Mizuno Wave Hayate.
Hey SETH, that’s a good list but I want to know some insight Advice of you? if it’s good to have a gtx trail shoes edition or normal edition. In a wet terrain, muddy terrain, rainy and cold condition
I’ve tried many trail shoes, best I have tried are Hoka torrents and the Inov8 trail talon and X Talon. Just love inov8 shoes.
You CANNOT wear that ugly ass shoe to the pub. How not to get laid
Saucony guide iso 2 tr..just got these as stability shoes for trails
Yay!!! They have one for us vegans!! Ups sorry I got really excited . Thanks for the advice.
Hey all, I am a new runner (4 months) and I picked up a pair of Under Armour STR shoes, I haven’t seen anybody review them, are they an okay shoe or would I be better off getting one of the shoes from the list?
I have never made a negative comment on a shoe review channel, but you get the first. Sub par. Poor. Hopeless. I am not coming back.
1. Nike Pegasus 36 Trail (wide, responsive, durable, overall super comfortable and reliable shoes with very good looking)(not expensive as well)
2. Hoka Speedgoat Evo (with vibram mega grip (the most reliable sole for me), incredible cushion to weight ratio; the only problem is still a bit narrow for me)
3. Hoka Torrent (wide, lightweight and with quite a good amount of cushion)
I am a trail runner through and through. Luck enough to be able to run straight down the road to hit some lovely trails within a km. Mizuno -brought the road ones Waveriders in store then got a trail version online later.
Thanks for this! I’ve had my eye on the Inov8 ones already and wondered what the sizing is like? True to size or should I size up/down? I’m female and I’m an 8 in my Asics road shoes. I’ll have to buy online just now of course so just wondered!
Dude, I disagree with you: the price is never OK for common people. It has to be less than 100$. Then it could be OK. The profit of the shoe companies is too big just for 350-400 miles…By the way the best beast trail running shoe for me is Hoka One One Challenger ATR 5.
Hi, how much space should I have in the front when my feet tend to swell kinda lot during my long distance runs?
Salomon speedcross 5 gtx and Salming trail 5 for me this year
Took the plunge earlier this yeah on the Hoka Speed Goats and fell in love with them great channel and reviews thanks a lot
Sad to see no New Balance on the list. My 2 go-to trail shoes are the MT10 and MT101.
I am a heavier person and I need a shoe that’s durable and a little stiffer for the trail. What’s your recommendations? Thanks.
Still running in a really beat up pair of Hoka Speedgoat2’s, but have a backup pair of Salomon Speedcross4’s. On the coastal path here in Cornwall I nearly prefer the HOKA’s, they feel more stable over rocky terrain and the cushioning is lush. I do love my Salomon’s as well but I always feel like my ankles are going to roll from underneath me, if I put a foot wrong. I do have a pretty broken and stiff body though
Inov-8 RocLite G 275 for me. Feel great from the get go. Lets the water in easily which means the water also leaves the shoe quickly. Which is just as well as I like running through puddles. Feet soon dry out. The only downside is that the fabric has worn through behind my heal.
Before lockdown I tried on a number of shoes and narrowed then down to two. Glad to see them both in this review, Brooks Cascadia & Saucony Peregrine. Couldn’t decide between them, though I am leaving towards the Brooks, will try them both on again when things are back in action. I also tried the Hoka Torrent, which I wasn’t crazy about but the Speedgoat 4 looks decent, more choices
You should take New Balance Hierro 5 into your consideration….. 1.New Balnce Hierro 5 2. Hoka Challenger atr 3.Saucony Mad river tr
I always use a pair of averagely padded shoes when I race on the street but I think with some lighter shoes whose weight is less than 200 g, I would run 5 seconds/km faster with all the other conditions unvaried (same form, same route etc). About running downhill on rough terrain I think that skills(balance, quick steps, strength and courage ) are more important than shoes but after I fell last year because of water I bought a new pair
This was really helpful! I wish I had trail shoes when I climbed up to Arthur’s Seat.
Hey Seth! I’m also in the Denver area and really enjoy your channel. Love my Peregrine ISOs! Used them this year on trail and icy roads. Even used them at a road half in Leyden when it was snowing and they were perfect. Hope you get the chance to give them a shot. Inov-8 Trailroc’s used to be my favorite years ago, but I think they’ve had some sizing issues in the recent versions and they may not be suitable for the distances you run due to the lack of cushioning. They used to be my favorite for hotter, dryer days on shorter trails. Stay warm out there!
Who has suggestions for flexible trail shoes with a bit of cushion and a fair amount of room in the toe-box?
Just got my first pair of trail shoes last week! I almost got the Saucony Peregrine but tried on the Adidas Terrrex Agravic XT and it’s amazing! The outsole pattern is similar to the sauconys, the boost is perfect thickness for my comfort, never been so happy running on a trail
Gone through a few pairs of Kiger 5’s this year.
Perfect blend of ground feel, fit, cushion, energy return and low weight.
They are like a Salomon shoe but with actual cushioning
I have a pair of Saucony Peregrine ISOs (which is the 9 I think?) which are incredible to run trails in. Their tread is much like the STs mentioned, its serious grippage.
I am similar to you Seth, I am in the taper phase of training for my “A” race of a road marathon. But I have been REALLY anxious to get back to some trails! Can’t wait to get back at it! My Hoka Torrent’s are feeling lonely. haha
After a few years with Hoka, on impulse i bought a pair of Saucony Perigrine 10 and I’m blown away by them, so good i bought another pair and also a pair for my wife!
DUDE STOP!
Why are you hyping and trying to raise the shoe prices!
XD
Would y’all review some of the allegedly more sustainable shoes from adidas, vivobarefoot, and allbirds. I know different companies are trying really cool ideas. Also if you’ve ideas on what to do with old sneakers? Thanks:)
Love my Saucony Peregrines for Trail and Saucony ISO Freedoms for Road
so, tell me which one is the best as you say on the title, instead of just introducing everything?
Saucony Exodus ISO 3 are my current trail shoe. Very pleased with them. Loads of grip in slippery mud.
La Sportiva Bushido II very good build quality, good outsole, responsive fast shoe!
Awesome information on brands that I’ve never heard of, thank you! Love my LaSportiva raptor trail shoes. A little heavy but pretty durable and awesome on wet surfaces.
Don’t think I could go too these after my barefoot trail shoes
I bought some Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX but I have rolled my ankle 4 times now in them, the last time my ankle was a mess. Checking online others have reported the same issue with ankle rolling. I think it’s possibly due to low height about the ankle so there isn’t so much support there. I have run through mud/ sleet/ snow in them and they have been great but it does make me think wearing them when out especially at the moment.
I love my Hoka Challengers at the moment. That said, I haven’t had the chance to run out in the speedgoat
Can you compare trail shoes while they are wet and going steep downhill?
Wish u would have included the heel and forefoot stack height, not just drop.
I’ve been researching Hoka One Speed Goat 4 for a while. I’m holding off until I can visit my favourite running shop to make sure that are the most suitable for my needs and running style. Due to pushing my distances in a pair of shoes purchased on line I’ve had to take a few months off running. Lessons learnt
Nothing beats the Solomon Speedcross 5!
Would love to see you review a shoe from Tecnica in 2020. They brought some tech that was previously just used in ski boots to custom fit the shoes (especially heel) to your specific foot in-store. Would be interesting to see how much of a difference that bit of customization really makes.
Love your show, but all these shoes look like they are great in wet and muddy countries; could you recommend any for dry and hot countries like Australia?
I’m a Hoka guy…they typically fit my feet well. But the Mafate doesn’t work for me either. The toe box is too deep, and there is too much fabric that gets bunched up as a result. For me, the Hoka Challenger ATR is my go-to trail shoe. We have dry, fairly smooth trails around where I live, so I don’t need the gnarly big teeth to grip well (although the Mafate did work well when I used it).
I’ve only ever tried HOKA trail shoes, but so far I’ve liked the ATR Challengers and the Speedgoats excellent traction with lots of cushion in the heel:) gotta make sure you keep up with those hip and ankle stability exercises though because the stack height especially on the Speedgoat can be a bit tricksy on the ankles for some:D
My two all-time favorite shoes are the Inov8 x-talon 212 and the Saucony Nomad TR.
I am still using my first pair of Inov8’s today, I’ve ran probably 1500km in them and most of it races. I bough them in 2011!!! In he beginning even ultra’s up to 100k! Now when it’s a bit worn I still use them for races up to 30k. Other from that I use them for steap rugged hill repeats and real muddy short runs.
I’ve used and worn out 3 pairs of Saucony Nomad and ran over 1500km in each of them. The are the pefect transition shoe, perfect roadrain shoe and perform well in wet conditions as long if it’s not to muddy. The new model Saucony Koa TR is a bit stiffer and buffer and isn’t my favorite anymore. Probably going to try the La Sportiva Helios in stead.
Salomon sense ride 2 are my only one’s but I would like a shoe dat has some more cushioning so you can run road and flat trail because that’s all we got near me…do you have a recommendation? Is it the hoka Evo maybe? Because I love the Bondi 6
Don’t wear that New Balance to the pub unless you want to get laughed out of the place!
Have never ran on trails but I am a huge fan of saucony road shoes so I’d probably opt for their trails if I do decide to move to the mountains at any point in the future
Great channel, awesome content. How can I get my Running Channel training t-shirt signed by Ana?
The New Balance Hierro Boa is a sleeper that should be on this list!
My favorite trail shoe of the year is the Adidas Terrex BOA!
I use ASICS Gel-Venture 7. They are bog standard, competent, are available in wide and extremely inexpensive. And are perfect for my slightly supinating stride. They’re actually the most popular trail runner sold by Amazon. Less than $50 American.
Number 1 hoka one one Number 2 asics fujitrabuco 8 Number 3 new balance hierro v5
Good to see Brooks appear on the list, they’re my goto brand. Cascadia and Mazama for trails and Ghost for the road.
So many different types! I think it all will come down to your favorite brand lol.
↓↓ What’s your favourite shoe to run in? Do any of these take your fancy? Tell us in the comments below ↓↓
What about not for trail just for running that’s have support and comfort
My only new trail shoes were the Nike Terra Kiger 5’s, which I love mostly just because they got me through some tough training runs, shorter trail races, some ultras and my first 24 hour race, and performed well on the bits of road as well as the trails. Nothing to compare them against but I like them!
I’m really interested in your review/thought on the Adidas Terrex Speed LD. This seems like a really well built lightweight trail racer! For more cushioning, the TWO may be better, and for general use with deeper lugs, the XT is probably the way to go.
#1 Hoka Torrent amazing shoe!
#2 Hoka Evo Speedgoat
#3 Hoka Mafate (sorry Seth the original trail shoe from Hoka still works for me)
Goddamn, are there any politically middle of the road runners? A fucking vegan friendly shoe?!
Do USA ACTUALLY know a trail run? They always boast about any surface ability yet demos are always upon soft woodlands bed or mud seldom the long distance upon rubble and rock terrain in rainy England type environments!!!!
What on Earth does vegan friendly mean when it comes to shoes?
Hi! Just wondering if anyone has an idea for some good shoes for a sort of mixed surface trail like bit of flat tarmac, then bit of rocky and finer gravel surface? For those whom are a bit limited on routes. There is one around me that is a pretty mixed one as being a bridleway so horses, cyclists use it as well so pretty uneven. Mostly flat though, no hills really. Thanks
i love running trail in flip flops. no joke. if you haven’t tried it yet you should.
VFFs Spyridon MR, VFFs Spyridon LS, VFFs V-Trail, VFFs V-Trail 2.0
[VFFs: “Vibram FiveFingers”]
Altra have been wearing those for years now, and I’m not switching any time soon.
Top 3 trail shoes for me are all Hoka. Didn’t plan it that way but it worked out because each on provides something different for the trails. Hoka Torrent for those faster, more tech trails. Hoka Speedboat 2 for those longer trails that still require grip (I wasn’t a fan of the 3’s and haven’t tried the 4’s). Hoka Challenger ATR 4, for buffed out easy trails (plus I found them at an REI garage sale for $55, so no way I was passing that up.
Saucony Peregrine 6 has been the best fit for all terrains. The grip is fantastic. What do you recommend out there similar to the 6?
Top 3 Trail shoes:
Hoka One One Torrent
Hoka One One Speedgoat 3/4 ( I love both)
Salomon S/Lab Sense 7
The Torrents got more miles than any of my other shoes by a good bit. I just love everything about that shoe
Interesting. The Evo Speedgoat for the rocky terrain, as the sole is more targeted for softsoiltrailing, like forests, mud and sand. Less so for rock.
Current trail shoes are Hoka’s Challenger ATR 5’s and the Speed goat 3’s depending on the terrain I am running on and how much road there is before hitting the trails
Hi Seth, im walking a marathon this Saturday and I must say your vlog has been of great help. Thank you for teaching me about patience, endurance, preparation and to enjoy the moment.
I have wide feet and have stuggled with the narrow toe boxes of all of these shoes. Nike Terra Kiger 5 (4mm drop + rockplate) and Nike Pegasus 36 Trail (10mm drop, no rockplate but air zoom) are really good for me. NO squeezed pinkie toes. I would go Altra too but concerned with zero drop.
I know that you couldn’t have all the brands that you probably wanted but I was surprised that neither La Sportiva or Salomon were mentioned.
They’re the two most used trail running shoes in Portugal and I believe in many other European countries too.
Ps: if you’ll do a second-round review, consider using some shoes from Decathlon, the bang for buck is great.
QD: Hoka Torrent.
I really love these. They have the perfect amount of stack height and the perfect grip. You feel so locked in when you wear them, and they are also super light. Confidence inspiring.
Great shoes…Speedcross….like” life preservers”. WA State-ruts-mud and CO kwazzy too
I love my ASICs Gel Venture 7. Over 1300 Km and still feel great! Just love’em!
QOD: Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed, 8mm drop and 9.2 ounces in my size, designed to go fast on the rugged trails and muddy trails, they work great here in RPV California.
QOD: Saucony Peregrine ISO, love them, Seth have you tried them?
QD I bought the Saucony Mad Rivers in Black Friday… they’re awesome
I just ordered the Mad River’s can’t wait to try them! i got them for $70!
Still using old models and trying to get the best and maximum out of ’em, Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX, Hoka Speedgoat 2, Hoka Mafate Speed 2, Hoka Torrent 1, Hoka Challenger ATR 4, La Sportiva Mutant, Asics Gel Fuji Trabuco 3 Neutral.
Salomon sense ultra for training days. Super comfy and just holds up!
Salomon s/lab ultra 2 form 100km and up.. its a beast for all day efforts
I used to love running on trails, but I found as I got older I didn’t have the knee lift and kept tripping and hurting myself. I had a fall onto the sharpest rock in NY and opened up a 4 inch gash across my left knee. The emergency room didn’t clean it up correctly and I ended up back in the hospital on intravenous antibiotics and the had to do surgery to open it back up and clean it correctly. I was in for 5 days. But I didn’t learn my lesson and about 8 years later I tripped on another trail and dislocated my left shoulder. As I sat up after the fall, I brought my arm around and felt the shoulder slip back into place. Of course I had to have surgery to fix the liniments. The trails I were running were not technical, just hiking trails so I just run in my trainers.

Altra Superior, La Sportiva Helios SR, and Altra King Mt. 1.5 were (are) my trail choices.
I give you a thumbs up as soon as the vid starts, just your positive vibe I guess.
QOD: Topo Athletic MTN Racer (TerraVenture 2 came late 2018, and I used them in 2019-fantastic), and the Saucony Peregrine ISO. The Peregrine ISO is a great shoe, and was a great rebound from the Peregrine 8 misstep. However, You should probably wait until the Peregrine 10 comes out. It will have new midsole foam, lighter weight, return of a rockplate, and a similar screw and drain layout like the Mad River.
My wife picked up a pair of Salomon Trailsters, which is billed as an “entry level” trail shoe, but she has found it to be a great commuter/road to trail shoe.
QOD: TOPO Ultraventure, Salomon SLab Ultra2, & TOPO MTN Racer. TOPO got me through several ultras in 2019!
Do the Hoka Evo Speedgoats have a wide toe box? Have a good one Seth!
1: Altra Lonepeak 3.5
2. Hoka Speedgoat 3
3. Altra Timp 1.5
recently picked up a pair of Asics Gel FujiTrabuco 7 at a great price love ’em so far:) would welcome any tips on shoes suited to mixed surfaces? my run commute is about 13k with about 5k on some pretty muddy forest track and the rest on tarmac find the Fujitrabuco too hard when not on trails…
Peg 36 trail absolutely flogged this shoe and it’s handled everything better grip than vibram super cushioned honorable mention cloudventure peak! Biggest disappointment Torrent sole sent them back twice! Cut the crap and put a vibram sole on it!
Good job guys, unbiased and great advice. Will have to side with a lot of other comments it’s Altra for me, superior for fast work, timp for long distance, can’t beat a zero drop!!
Great video! (could have done with this last year when I was deciding which pair for my peak district 100k). I have the Hoka Speedgoats and I love them. Never have a problem on any kind of terrain…
QD: feeble ilg is pretty much a full-time grinder up big SW CO peaks, so, Salomon Speedcross and Hoka Speedgoats are my go-to’s. that was a(nother) excellent vLog, thank you! head bowed…
Hoka Speedgoat 3, Hoka Napali ATRs (gone too soon) and Salomon sense ride not all in 2019
QoD; 1) Saucany Mad River Tr
2) Salomon Sense Ride 2
3) Hoka one one Speed Goat 3W
I’d really like to see a running vest/ pack video like this. Currently shielding so only able to run around the garden so naturally want to start ultrarunning as soon as my 12 weeks are up:-P
Not much of a trail runner myself although where I live (mountains of Western North Carolina) is loaded with many miles of trails. I miss my Hoka Stinsons.
Altra timp 1.5s are my favs of 2019! I love your channel!! Thanks for the info!
QD
1. La Sportiva Mutant, great grip on any terrain
2. Scarpa Spin Ultra when trail need a more reactive shoe
3. La Sportiva Crossover 2.0 winter mountain running
Hi guys. Great content as usual! Have you ever done a treadmill vs road running video and the differences between the two? I’ve just ran on a treadmill for the first time and I felt like Mo Farah! Cheers
I have some Karrimor Sabre 2 WTX trail shoes, and love them.
Salomon one of the greatest I`v ever got and I`m little bit cocerned why you guys did not include this brand in your list? Because 1/2 of all trailrunners are competing in Salomon
QD: Inov8 Parkclaw 275. Very cushioned, lightweight, breathable, durable outsole, and wide! Although they are for easier trails, europe parks, forrests. Not for sharpy rocky climbs.
Shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
QOD: Salomon Slab Ultra 2, Scott Supertrac RC.
Both is working great for me. But the slab gives a better hold for my narrow ankles
Seth, have you done or can you do a video that talks about the significance of shoe drops?
Awesome video! Thanks for showing some live to us trail runners! Totally agree with the Inov8, awesome shoes! Can’t wait for round 2! Don’t forget the Skechers trail lineup..while a small selection, wonderful affordable shoes that don’t get enough love..I currently am using the skechers max trail ultra 5 (and waiting on the 6 to come out), simply one of the best trail shoes I’ve used!
mafate2 is much better than the 1.Try it even if you didn’t like the 1
Salomon Sense pro 4. Best techy steep gnarly trail runner. Agile speedy low to the ground toothy and approved by Kilian!
Saucony Xodus 10. A uber super comfy long haul tank. Takes the comfort of that unbelievable Pwrrun+ foam to the trails!
Both incredible shoes and both mine!
I’ve been wearing my Hoka Speedgoat 3 waterproof for all my trail runs. They do well on buffed our trails as well as more aggressive/rockier terrain. Plus the waterproof quality really held up in those rainy winter months
I started off with a pair of New Balance FuelCore Nitrel V2 that I brought last January. I’ve done 4 or 5 races in them, as well as 6 Reece runs and a lot of random runs and hill sprint training in trail conditions and have put about 346 miles. The lug size is relatively small, so would have thought some road running would have been fine and they were awesome in dry conditions but the second you had any rain on roads the grip was nonexistent. I will never forget the first time I put them on. I have never felt comfort like that on the bottom of my foot and knew straight away, I was gonna cherish these shoes the same way I would my own child . I have enjoyed the shoe so much that instead of buying a different shoe, I may just buy the same one again. I’ve always ran in New Balance shoes whether road or trail but went and brought myself a pair of Saucony Triumph 17’s after a recommendation from a running club friend and they were so comfy but I didn’t like the fact the tongue on the shoe was quite thick and that is still taking time to get use, even after running over 70 miles in them
Seth the Nike peg trail shoe is my favorite shoe for the trails. Run on
Great. Just what I needed as Ive been looking at getting some running shoes that can cope with a bit of mud! Thank you:-)
Hahaha, 7:54 is pure comedy. The gentleman thinks that the shoes are underpriced. My wallet respectfully has a point of order.
I have a pair of Topo Athletic Terraventure 2 on the way to try out. Currently have the Altra lone peak 4 and really like except they are a little wide through the midfoot for me. The MNT Racer just came out and might be one to give a try for 2020? Keep up the great work Seth!
QD: Hoka Speedgoat 3, not the 4, is my best trail running shoes.
Your reviews are highly expected. I see it from the comments too. Why?
It is more difficult to pick a proper pair than the one for the road!
It is an unknown territory, at least for me. My 1st pick was Speedcross 4 so no surprise I chose S5 as a replacement.
Other brands… terra nova!
OK, I got one to run round the house Pegasus trail.
Topo ultraventure, Topo mt2’s are my go tos for this year. Would love to see you review some topos in the next year the mtn racer, maybe?
I’m a big fan of the first version of the Brooks Caldera. I didn’t fancy the follow up version so stocked up on discounted version ones!
