Most of the time, feeling dizzy or lightheaded when you stand up isn’t something to worry about, says Christopher Gibbons, M.D., an associate professor of neurology at.You stand up suddenly and are met with a feeling of wooziness. In some cases, your vision gets splotchy, or you have to brace yourself until the.Dizziness or light-headedness when standing up occurs as a result of abnormal blood pressure regulation.
Normally, when people stand, gravity causes blood to pool in the veins of the legs and trunk. This pooling lowers the blood pressure and the amount of blood the heart pumps to the brain.A: When you stand, if your blood pressure drops temporarily, it takes some time for your vessels to clamp down and get the blood up to your brain, so you may feel temporarily dizzy.
Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit academic medical center. Advertising on.For some people, this dizziness is caused by a gradual drop in blood pressure. And this “suggests the nervous system is failing and isn’t maintaining blood.
“The heart is a pump, and when you stand up suddenly, the amount of blood going into the heart is reduced,” explained Dr. Phillip Low, a professor of neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. “This can cause a temporary drop in blood pressure, and it takes a short amount of time for the corrective mechanisms to kick in and correct it.”.According to a 2011 study, about 20 percent of people older than 65 experience orthostatic hypotension. People with orthostatic hypotension may feel dizzy when they stand up.
The condition is often. When you stand up quickly gravity pulls blood from your brain towards your feet and blood doesn’t return to the brain until the next heartbeat. With a slow pulse, this takes a second or two and that is enough time to feel the lack of oxygen in the symptom of lightheadedness or dizziness.
Dizziness or light-headedness when standing up too fast occurs as a result of unusual blood pressure policy. Generally, when people stand, gravity causes blood to swimming pool in the veins of the legs and trunk. This pooling reduces the blood pressure and.You can find a Vestibular Specialist at the Vestibular Disorders Association who is trained to evaluate your symptoms of dizziness with looking up. Some other conditions that may also cause dizziness with looking up include problems with your neck, such as cervical spondylosis, or problems with the blood flow to your brain.
This helps explain why dizziness upon rising from bed is so common. Drinking a lot of water before bedtime is not the best solution, since it can send you racing to the bathroom at night. Wait until you are up and around to start taking fluids, and get enough throughout the day. Rise slowly.
Dizziness can sometimes be caused by an ear condition. A simple way of distinguishing between ear-related dizziness and dizziness due to other causes is to determine whether it occurs only when you’re upright or also when you’re lying down. Dizziness that occurs when you’re upright is probably not related to the ear.If you tend to run low, just remember to always take your time when getting out of bed or standing up after sitting for period of time. Other causes of poor circulation need a doctor’s attention.

I was laying down yesterday morning amd I got up to go get something to eat and I could barely walk, my vision got super blurry and I lost all control to the muscles in my legs. So when I do this I uncontrollably shake and bounce up and down in my legs. And I was near the sink but I couldnt grab it so I turned around because I was falling and I hit my shoulder blade on the cabinets.
I was scared that i have got some brain disease, glad to know im normal
i lose my hearing for like 30 seconds and i feel nauseous, but i definitely don’t lose my sight.
Guys is it normal that this happens to me more often than usual?
I think this happens more to teens and preteens. Lol like me!
Harmless? I just fell and hit on the back of my head and now I got a concussion
Hahaha yeahh.. I did have anemia and i dont know why..i try to eat a lot nutrition which is magnesium and etc but it can’t cure….
It happened to me right now I was on my iPad and when I was going to the kitchen I suddenly couldn’t see anything and suddenly my body started to feel heavy and I thought I was going to fall and I held something to prevent falling but I was awake the entire time This was my first blackout.
Thanks Doctors for that information, I have motion sickness. Please talk about that next time.
Good afternoon and different things can cause this problem and we as individuals have to see what causes it in your body so that you can correct it as too who you are as a person and the difference in people and thanks for sharing this video and chat and you all enjoy the rest of the day!!,bye now.
I feel dizzy since 3 or 4 days when I’m lying down and my parent thought that I’m just joking around:( is somebody has same condition as me? And how do you recover
Thanks. I always have low bleed pressure. In the last 5 years, i have blocked once while getting out of bed. Now i feel dizzy while at stores getting up after bending to reach item from a low shelf, even when i do so slowly.
I am only 62 years old.
Whenever this happens to me all I can think about is me falling flat on my face and that drake song playing
Man i keep getting light headed everyday and i faint everyday which was scary for me
Anyone else get Blind for a few seconds after standing up or when they sit down too fast
But it happens every time i stand up and i don’t even get up quickly:/
okay so… anyone else feel like you are dead when you get up from sleeping and lose your vision…? _
I was putting the dishes away and all of a sudden my vision blurred, my ears clogged, I almost lost my balance. It was scary man, I’m fine now but that’s terrifying
Women get this especially after age 40 and I honestly think it’s a mineral deficiency of the B complex. I’m sure they made studies of this but why are they not vocal about it?
Always, the doctors says everything is normal
I hate doctors they can’t do anything
Can’t diagnose anything
Wasting my education time I hate this
I was getting this alot when I was around 58 kg now I’m 70 kg (5ft 11) and I never get it now.
I’m twelve and I’m dizzy my moms at work for another 3 hours what should I do
My 14 yr old faints 20 times a day, 40,000 out off pocket expenses not including what the insurance paid and doctors don’t know why.
I’m 23 and they always tell me at the doctor that my blood pressure is low. Is that a bad thing?
This happened to my brother, but it was so bad he fell. He didn’t faint or something, but he fell
This happens to me every once in a while but one time I tried to go sit down and slipped on something in the floor and passed out
0:16 i woke up 3 hours early…. felt like all my parts needed to stretch… i dressed up… heard my mothers room door like slightly slamming cause of wind… so i want to close it, i closed it, got back in my room with my hand on the handle.. and boom that blackout thing hit me hard… i collapsed on the ground in place like a ragdoll as if i had no bones… and i didnt feel pain i just watched it happen, i couldnt try to grab onto stuff… i just didnt feel anything… and then everything went back to normal and i saw myself weirdly on the ground as if i actually fell like a ragdoll, and my legs started hurting cause i fell on them, and my hand was still on the door handle as i was on the ground…
I love how he said dizziness and fainting so enthusiastically at 0:50
if i have a headrush i feel like i might pass out and also i see nothing, everything is black and i cant hear anything, like i’m blind and deaf at the same time. visions come back first, then the hearing and after a while everything is normal again. i have them a lot. the dizzyness is the most scariest ’cause it feels like i drank too much and i would black out. when there was a time i drank too much beer i had a mild alcoholpoisoning and everything was moving and i felt realy lightheaded, passed out in my backyard. it feels like that but just for five seconds. still, five scary seconds.
One time I was taking a hot bath in winter. Then I stepped out to get the clothes. On the next moment, I was lying on the floor with my elbow struck into the plastic mop bucket which made my elbow bleed. I didn’t feel any pain probably due to the black out but I was really luck that my head didn’t hit the toilet which was just a few inches from where my head landed. Or I wouldn’t be here to type this comment.
One time i stood up to fast and fell down on my room floor, when i hit the ground i woke up on the kitchen floor
Training is the best way to get rid of many Diseases.
So Just Work out…
Me: Alright i’m gonna purposely stand up fas—
My soul: Ight imma head out
I happens to me once every other day and I’m 11 but one time my vision went all blurry but I drank water so I thought it was to do with dehydration but idk is it just normal?
My parents said that I don’t drink enough water except I drink 6 bottles waters everyday
Is it bad that this happens to me every single time I stand up? Yes? No?
Thank u I couldn’t find anything else on this thank u for this seriously!!
When it happens to me I get dizzy and then see lots of colours and then I go floppy and fall over. Also this happens to me at random even when I’ve been stood up for a long period of time
When I got dizzy, I threw up several times and almost fall down. I was sitting in a toilet bc my tummy feel bad… I walk back to my bedroom 2 times (bc I went to the bathroom to test my body again but it didn’t work). Finally, I went to my bedroom lying down without moving and sweating a lot. Like, a lot. I grab my phone and search this up.:(
The other day I woke up and after a while I couldn’t really hear anything. It sounded like I was at the end of a tunnel. Then I stopped seeing for about five minutes. I had a headache for the previous 24 hours or so. Not sure if this is it, any suggestions?
There was only one time where I felt like I was gonna faint I just got done taking a dump and a stood up and pulled my pants up I started to fall over but luckily my bathroom door was closed and I ended up slamming into it and that woke me up it’s only happened once and I’ve never felt that bad again (this happened like 2 years ago)
I just watch to much youtube in my bed, and when i stand up my head becomes dizzy
I have been going through this since last 2 weeks. At that time it was normal, like, you know head rush? It happens only sometimes. So I didn’t take it too seriously, but then I realised this is happening to me everyday and getting severe…like…I feel like I’m gonna fall down. And after 1 week of continuously happening this, my head started to ache too. And I’m 14. I don’t know what to do.
For anyone who’s worried about temporarily losing their vision when this happens, don’t worry. What this means is that you’re just getting closer to blacking out, it’s not the result of any kind of medical condition.
this happens, literally, all the time for me. sometimes i forget about it and then i stand up after laying in bed and my vision goes fuzzy it feels so weeiiirddd
Dang I just stood up and fell I’m watching this on the floor
Ty because I wear super thick platforms and I sometimes almost break my foot getting up
This always happens to me whenever I wake up or stand up I just start to feel dizzy, then my head hurts, then I black out, then my eyes hurt, then it goes away. It lasts for 7 seconds or so I hate it
Whenever I stand from sitting or laying for awhile. My outer vision gets fuzzy with black and it makes me lightheaded and gets a headache. The vision only lasts for afew seconds, but the headache stays. And there is a light headache behind my eyes, mostly my left.
I was laying down in bed got up to do something and got that feeling and was like eh ok then i fainted and fell face first into my closet
The only time i get a dizzy head when standing is if i ha e been sitting or lying sill for a long time and i am dehydrated
If im hydrated it doesn’t happen
I feel dizziness when I stand up from bed. It’s worse in morning when I wake up. I feel better after exercising but more I lie down on bed worse it gets. Is drinking salt water good for this? I am 22 years old
I feel light headed and I’m 11 I have a eating disorder too
does this happen to an 11 year old like me? or is it normal?
Lol this happens to me often but my balance senses are still there like i walk and act like nothing is happening. Its not that long tho like 2 seconds
Sometimes I’ll get up and be like “oh ok” then fall right back onto by bed
I fell for the first time doing this.. i was just walking to open my bedroom door and felt lightheaded, and then all i felt was my head hit the door. didn’t even notice what happened until my mom said “are u ok?” from the other room.
Literally me when I wake up every day. On most days I can still see through the fuzziness in the middle of my sight but some days it’s just all fuzzy like a broken tv screen
This happeneds to me too because every time when I get up I start to feel dizzy and my head hurts and it only last for a few seconds
I’ve had it for years but its sporadic and generally lasts about 30 seconds. It’s usually soon after standing up from the couch or bed and I start seeing stars, i lose my balance, it feels like I’m falling and my vision starts to close in until its completely gone. I have to sit or lay down immediately and if I’m not close enough to chair I will try to get to my knees or sit down. The weird thing is that if I have to get on the floor I will lose muscle control of one of my arms or legs and it will make rapid jerky movements that look unnatural. I fell the other day because I couldn’t manage to get to the couch 5 feet away. I’ve never fully lost consciousness durring these episodes but the feeling itself is pretty terrifying. It’s almost like I can sense my body is on the tipping point of having a seizure and I think that fear is what makes the experience so much worse.
Question: is this normal!? Is that just what happens when you are lightheaded? Who needs doctors when you have the internet
Once I actually fell down and my vision disappeared for a second. I told my mom and she didn’t give a crap lmao.
I think I’m the only person that doesn’t feel like this whenever I stand up
can someone help me i’m 16 and i smoked a lot of weed when i was 15 and i’ve stopped since a month ago and it’s affected me massively i went to the doctor and got prescribed paroxetine 10mg for anxiety and depression but it only makes me nauseous all the time and i always feel like i’m in a dream like it almost feels like i’m always high or light headed it’s horrible it ruins so much i can’t enjoy thing like i used to i always feel like theirs something wrong me like i have cancer or something and that’s cause my anxiety but i still feel like i’m always dreaming or lightheaded can someone help me
I have been experiencing this and just awhile ago, I completley fell off
when this happens to me (a lott).. my vision gets like a fuzy black and my head gets hot and I start getting dizzy.. i finally decided to look it up… thanks forr making this video!! (yes i am extremely late to this video) lol
can the light headedness be coupled with a headache?
i get a headache / sharp pain over my left eye when i transition from lying to sitting to standing.
Garhhhh whats happening to me I’m 13 is it normal I always drink water a lot sleep a lot what’s the problem boyyyyyyy
What doctor do i go to to check it out? Just go get my blood checked no?
I’d say im pretty healty and young but i fainted because of this and hit my head on the corner of the table, woke up shaking in a pile of blood not knowing where i was. It was a year ago but i am experiencing the same milder effects of it and it’s having me a bit scared to be honest
When this happens to me I do the whole John Cena Hand motion in front of my face. XD like you can’t see this, but in reality I can’t see for the moment.
This happened to me it was so bad that I fainted hit my head and cut open my eyebrow
every time i stretch or stand up i end up going dizzy some times its so bad i end up falling backwards or collapsing against the wall. the worst it got was i was lying down in bed i stood up to go the bathroom and i went super dizzy couldn’t see strait and smashed into the radiator. i googled it and it said i might have diabetes. ik im overweight google but c’mon man
When I stand up after sitting down for an estimated minimum of 20 minutes, I feel so dizzy and light headed, god I’m only 12 and I’m freaking out that cause I thought this was a me thing but I was wrong, i’m sure I’ll be fine, I’ll speak with my doctor.

This happened to me yesterday, actually google said that I’m having slight panic attack.
OMG, that microphone there is giving me Orthostatic hypotension.
I get up, walk a little and then feel really dizzy sometimes. Might be nasuea. So i clutch onto somethin’, there’s always an indication when it’s gonna be a strong one. Like a weird feeling in my lips, as if it gets heavy or like when your leg sleeps, but on my lips. Or i just feel lightheaded. Anyways, i take hold of the wall. But to no avail, my legs crumble beneath me and i fall to the ground. Last time, i was walking to the kitchen and grandpa said i was walking weirdly. I suddenly felt really weak, fell and my legs had a spasm. Vision blurry, whole thing lasts for mabye over ten seconds (couldn’t keep count like that). I just said i tripped and was sleepy, so i forgot i was on the ground and slightly moved my legs, felt light and comfy. I tried to clear all suspicions they had with a reasonable explanation before they got the chance to ask, as if leading up to it so that i can put in the right sentances at the right time. As if i didn’t know what they were thinking. After all, i was just laying there saying nothing. But i’m an extroardinary lier. A part of me is saying that it’s just because of a lack of vitamin D, since it doesn’t happen as much when i’m more outside and having the sun make me more awake and alert. Another voice tells me that dizzy spells don’t last that long, and i doubt they could make you crumble to the ground feeling sick even though you are holding onto something. The logical thing is to check if there is anything wrong to be curtain. The third voice tells me to chill and live life to the fullest. I remember when i was walking and i fell and might of hit my head slightly too, my brother thought i just wanted attention. But i couldn’t feel anything either way so i just got up. What do you think? Just a dizzy spell? I’m young, but really lazy. In great shape too. Might have been dehydrated.
Ive been laying on my bed for 6 hrs straight ima get up rn…
People: the most advanced lifeform on earth

Heya so i actually have passed out a couple of times but it kinda just sounds like this, I’m trying to decide if i should tell my parents or if I’m just an over dramatic teenage girl lol, so as usual i have resorted to help from random strangers in the comment section of a three year old YouTube video. I’m so smart… if you do actually see this like hmu please
I fainted yesterday and busted my face. And my friends just told me I just dropped couldn’t wake me up for 5 minutes and yeah I fainted 4 times that day
This just happened to me rn and I felt like I was going to faint, but it was right away I stranded up, and I started to get like black everywhere I see and I almost couldn’t see, then what I did was take a deep breath and start breathing slowly, my heart started beating faster
Thanku Drs. For that information! That’s what I do when I get up. I turn to my side then sit up, then I sit there for a few minutes then stand up. I have vertigos. I take it easy. With me seem like it came with age n all the meds I’m taking. I just pray at night to c another day.
Is seeing black and blue only also part of light headedness?
Coming to see this vid from a bad faint, tried to hold onto the wall, passed out and came back to myself on the floor, with my butt and the back of my head hurting so bad. I had gained some weight and didn’t experience this for a long time. Now I’ve lost it and it happens again quite often.
When this happens to me, I start to feel dizzy and then see colours then go floppy then fall over

I have some so bad I black out and injure myself, it’s really dangerous unfortunately the doctors can’t do anything about it
I’m 18 and I sorta experience mild diziness on standing up after being seated for about 10-15 minutes or so. I don’t know if I have low BP tho

POTS Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. I have this and i am young. I was diagnosed by a cardiac doctor from Henry Ford. Trying eating lots of salt and drinking lots of water. When getting up squeeze your legs to help the blood move up. Heat and changes in hormones also can cause flares in this conditions.
