Psoas Muscle: Is Yours Tight? Weak? How to Tell. Stretch. Strengthen.
Video taken from the channel: Bob & Brad
The psoas major is a large muscle that attaches at the bottom of the thoracic spine (T12) and along the lumbar spine (through L4), then runs through the pelvic bowl, down over the front of the hip joint, and attaches at the top of the femur ( thigh bone ). It is the only muscle connecting the spine to the leg.Introduction to the Psoas Muscle. The Psoas (pronounced so-as ) is located at the gravitational midline behind the abdominal muscles deep within the belly core.
The psoas is a pendulum that spans from the solar plexus to the upper leg allowing free-swing of the leg while walking. Influencing every aspect of health and well-being, a healthy, dynamic psoas is a powerful expression of coherency and responsive. The psoas (pronounced so-as) are the deep core muscles that link the upper and lower girdles of the body.
They lie below the surface muscles of the body and are the ‘missing-link’ riders must learn to use in order to feel their horses’ movement and to follow the directions of their riding instructors. The Psoas muscles help to flex your trunk and also to lift your legs, during other movements they assist in stabilizing the spine and contribute towards your posture. It is the only muscle group that attaches from the spine to the legs. The psoas are muscles that originate at the 12th thoracic vertebrae (mid-back) and the 5th lumbar vertebrae (low back) on either side, run through either side of the pelvis, and insert at either side of the lesser trochanter of the femur (inner thigh bone at the hip).Your psoas muscle is the deepest core muscle of the human body.
It is the only muscle that connects your trunk to your lower limb and plays a key role in maintaining posture, stability, and balance. It also plays a part in encouraging effective diaphragmatic breathing which we know is so powerful in optimizing oxygen flow into the muscles and tissues, key for performance, recover. The psoas muscle, formally called the psoas major, is a very important core muscle.
The psoas attaches the lumbar vertebrae to the lesser trochanter, near the head of the femur. The psoas muscle is often grouped together with the iliacus muscle, and together they are referred to as the iliopsoas. The psoas muscle is the deepest muscle of the human body.
It affects our structural balance, muscular integrity, flexibility, strength, range of motion, joint mobility, and organ functioning. In Greek, psoas literally means “muscle of loin”.It is the deepest of your core muscles—the very core of your core.
You actually have two psoas muscles, one on each side of your body. Each begins at your 12th thoracic vertebra, attaching there and to each of the five lumbar vertebrae below. The complex system of muscles that maintain the spine’s alignment, particularly when the horse is in motion, are called the Psoas, Multifidus and Abdominal muscle groups.
These are the body’s ‘core’ muscles and need to be strong and short to counteract spinal dipping and keep the gaps between the processes open when carrying the rider.”Deep within our physical body emerges a bio-intelligent tissue called the Psoas. This mysterious tissue is defined within the biomechanics paradigm as a core stabilizing muscle, yet the Psoas, like the tongue, is more of an organ of perception than it is an anatomical or functional muscle. The psoas (when functioning optimally) supports the healthy alignment of the lumbar spine, meaning it plays an important role in maintaining good posture. And when it’s not functioning optimally, it can be a major culprit behind back pain and discomfort.
The psoas muscle is a deep-seated abdominal muscle in close proximately to many of your internal organs. Your psoas major is the muscle that connects your lower spine to your lower body. The psoas muscle is many times tight and overactive, along with other hip muscles, due to things like chronic sitting and even due possibly due to chronic stress.
Muscle metastases of bronchopulmonary cancer are rare, notably when they are revealing. They can affect all muscles of the body with a predominance of.Your psoas muscles form part of your core and are the most important muscles to ensure stability, comfortable movement, and balance.
The psoas muscles are also one of the essential muscles as they connect your upper body with your lower body. In addition to stabilizing your body, the psoas muscles also play a role in your emotional wellbeing.

I just found you today in 2020 and I love your content! You guys crack me up
I’m 69, I have very hard time doing this stretch,my sacrilliac hurts…
nope. I can lower my leg just fine. I had a thr in 2013 in right hip. I was 38. Now 45. Ever since dislocating my right hip at 13, I’ve had left knee pain. Now at 45, I can see my glutes are very weak along with my thigh muscles. Weak! This stretch felt so good
My chiropractor did the release technique on my psoas bc I have tendonitis and I literally screamed the whole time bc of how painful it was
i have many muscular issues myself and i watch a lot brent’s videos, they’re great. just a random question, why would you not use gloves for this kind of work?
If I have a bad hip will there be pain in the groin when doing exercises? Because I’ve had pain for 3 years
hey how are you. im not licensed in anything but i think im going to try it on myself. thanks for posting.
Bob and Brad. The two most famous physical therapists on the internet.
I have been wheelchair bound for 9 years and I MUST get out. The pain has become chronic! Can you help me? Please consider being on my weekly Stroke Talk Show. Please fill out this if you’re willing. https://forms.gle/odHWR9y5GZWRM11m9
Sincerely,
Aaron Avila
Is it okay to do the furniture glider exercise with a knee issue?
Shouldnt this be weak and the tight muscle is the ql. Because it’s the ql that’s gonna be shortened with anterior pelvic tilt.
Thanks, I learned that there are hammer gnomes moving muscles in my body!
Actually my psoas muscle is so tight from me sitting and not stretching that my hip is locked up and pulled some stuff out of alignment. Is there a way to fix that?
I had this done. I wish I didn’t have to google it to find out what and why this was being done!!!! It didn’t resolve my issue, but it lets me know the therapist was educated. I just wish the communication was better. (: Ty for this video.
Can exercising this muscle help with Sciatic nerve problems?
I just had this done and I rolled off the table (exaggeration) almost… Worst muscle pain I’ve ever experienced. Glad my therapist is a good one!
Thank you. Yes, after hours of sitting we can easily develop this pattern. And this movement is a very good way to release out of it. Do it often!
Hi John really clear explanation thanks. I’m 60 and have a Spondylolisthesis at L5 since my early 20s. It’s only Grade 1 but causes my pelvis to be in an anterior tilt. Spent many years in desk work. I was interested in more about the lower crossed syndrome and ideas for addressing. I’ve started to experience hip tendinopathy at night. Thanks.
Hi guys! I’ve had this really sharp pain in my left leg when I do the stretch at 7:30. It also happens when I’m standing and I lean back a little. Is this still the psoas muscle being tight/weak?
I fell when 12,then several times through life,69 now several things wrong.IT band. Hip,knee core,so I need much help
Haaahaha first time in your channel and 30 seconds in I had already subscribed
With the strengthening exercises, are you also not activated your quad? Surely that negates the purpose of activating psoas alone?
I’m going to try this. I’ve been having trouble with my psoas on and off since 2010. I’ve been to physio, and the stretches help but this past 1.5 weeks has been difficult. While my job involves some desk duty, a lot of it is field work. Unfortunately the district I provide services to is 4 hours away in one direction. I need to be better at stretching daily, and not only when the pain kicks in. I’ll let you know if this helped.
When I extend, the glute of that leg becomes contracted. Is this a problem? Normal? Not recommended?
Half the people here are because of the Rogin Goggins podcast.
What else would cause the anterior pelvic tilt? I have this issue but when I checked to see if mine was tight, my leg was able to go down.
That was great! Thank you for this video. So I’ve noticed psoas is tight in most of people but also weak. Should we stretch it before strengthening it then stretch again?
Wheres this located?? This hurts like heck but I swear by it. It makes you feel 10 years younger. Is this practice anywhere near St Paul MN?
Seems like there are few DVD instructions for somatics. Can you suggest one?
Thank you so much. Right now we are dealing with COVID-19 so I’m stuck at home. I’m in so much pain.
This was so helpful
Very confusing video jumps around a lot. MIght make more sense with narration.
The arteries, viens and ureters are so close to that psoas, just looking at my at home model. Glad I know the muscle that is involved with lordosis. Causing an anterior pelvic tilt right?
this has helped me a lot thank you is there a movement to help a sore tailbone
My rectus femoris (sounds like harry potter) is tigjt but NY psoas seems fine…what can I do? Thanks!
HELLO, IAM SO THANKFUL TO GOD I DISCOVERED YOUR CHANNEL A FEW MINS. AGO, I FEEL SO MUCH RELIEF SUSAN, THE MOVEMENTS HELP ME WOW! THANK YOU FOR THIS! I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE “PSOAS MUSCLE,” I LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY, SO GRATEFUL, BLESS YA!
Did Your have some videos how Your working with fibromuscles….my doctor was doing 50 % stronger;treatment;) to get fibrosis muscles on life…45 regular treatments, gave me new life, and i can tell every one what is fibrosis in the neck, stomach and glutes muscles…..
In fibromyalgia, any fibromuscular tissues may be involved, especially those of the occiput, neck, shoulders, thorax, low back, and thighs. There is no specific histologic abnormality. Symptoms and signs of fibromyalgia are generalized, in contrast to localized soft-tissue pain and tenderness (myofascial pain syndrome), which is often related to overuse or microtrauma.
Wow! Thank you Susan, I’ve been stuck in bed because I couldn’t get up. After watching several videos yours hit the spot. I was able to get up and stand up after a few hours. I will continue this exercise, thank you! thank you! thank you!
Thank you for posting this!!! I didn’t have any luck with the first method but then I tried the variation and it worked immediately. Going to be doing this more often.
Thank you Susan Koenig for this most important demosntration. I have certainly gained a new insight today.
Hi guys, just did the slide steppers and felt a pain running from my inner groin up toward my pubic hair line… what do you reckon that is?
I went to the chiropractor about a month ago with this terrible back pain that wouldn’t go away, and she told me that my psoas had spasmed, she fixed it and the back pain got worse, then better within a few days, but now I think i’m having the same issue, so if i’m going to keep doing it, i might as well figure out how to fix it myself. thank you for this
Will this muscle cause outer pain over the top of the pelvic bone and down the low back into the tailbone? I am in a lot of pain with Fibromyalgia today and rain isn’t helping. Thanks for your video.
Hi I am constantly tensing my pelvic floors muscles can this help?
Please also make video about muscle pain near Iliac crest area as well. I have pain around Iliac crest for two years and so far cannot figure out how to get rid of it.
that’s helpful, thank you. I had never considered how damaging the habit of sitting at the computer was causing this problem. Thanks for making me aware of the pattern and showing a simple and gentle way to counter it:o)
Let’s life your shirt up and lower your waste band… kinda pervy
Can you recommend smth to unblock the following: upper left side of pelvis ( I do not know if it is pelvis or psoas). It is blocked and influences my hip and knee. Or maybe it is my hip that is blocked. No idea
I notice when you bring your leg up you do it from the side a bit, you don’t bring it straight towards your chest. I recently had hip surgery and I seem to be having this problem with this muscle. Thank you
I notice that to bring your knee back up from extension you externally rotate, then flex the knee and hip, then adduct the femur to bring it back to the starting position. Why is that?
Wow, Goggins was right. Marine vet here. Did one stretch and it released my tension from my neck down my shoulders and arms, down my legs, my entire erector spine… legs feel loose. Omg. My fight or flight experiences have reeked havoc on my body for over a decade and I had no idea. Goggins is actually helping change my life. Good to go
I know I have problems with my psoas muscle. But I’m hyper flexible so stretching feels real good but it takes a lot to stretch me.
Sir I have little pain in illiac region when I sit or laydown it goes with walk sir can you tell me pain because of these muscles or some other problem I have how I can fix it
Your videos are amazing!! I been suffering from one side symptoms, left side is tight and right side feels loose. Any tips how I can fix it?
Is there any role of PSOAS MUSCLES In Occurrence and or recovery of Hernia?
Being a cyclist I’d say mine is probably tight, more than weak
My Dear Lady, I did not even know what the Psoas muscles were. Thank you. I just started with the three on each side. Is there an amount of these that you recommend to do each day? Thank you again!
Thx so much. Verrrrry helpful for my sore rt. hip. I had a friend in high school with the same name as you! ( Woodrow Wilson High School in Wash.,D.C.
Bert and Ernie do physio these two are informative and understatedly funny
I’ve got a rare disease called Transverse Myelitis, and as I regain some motor control over a bum left leg I start to feel more pain. One pain that is a frustrating constant now, is left kidney pain (don’t have stones) It is diffuse and the spot that the Psoas muscle attaches to my spine is where my TM lesion is. I have very strong contraction spasms that force me into a partial fetal position they are so strong, and I’m wondering if that could be the source of the pain I’m feeling as I work at a computer every day.?
And I’m sure a lot of people tell you all kind of names and everything I’m not a doctor I don’t know nothing about nothing I’m trying to find out some relief or some help
I can’t thank you enough. I tried this last night before I went to bed and this morning, while I was stretching, something realigned and most of the pain went away. I’ve had pain for almost 4 years and tried almost everything to release this muscle. You are an angel. Thank you!
are there any exercises that a person can do when they have this condition? I’ve run out of options for physical therapy and/or treatment with a doctor. I have dealt with this pain for the last 4 or 5 years. Thank you.
Thank you so much me/csf and fibromyalgia feels better for me doing this gently.
I’ve always wondered why I have anterior tilt and now I understand. Thanks Bob and Brad.
First and foremost, if the muscles of the hamstrings are tight, coulc.it/painfix they are more susceptible to tearing. No matter if you’re an elite athlete, stay-at-home-mom or average Joe, a muscle tear in the back of your legs can take months to heal and recover from making life very challenging.
is this minor psoas? how can i know if i have it or not? i read that is 50% doesnt have it
Does the universe send me this stuff or is it Spytech because I texted someone I threw my back out the other day? Wtf.
I really enjoy your videos. You both have a wonderful way with one another. And I learn so much. Thank you both
The amount of sexual tension built up in that room I can only imagine how “Lonnie” feels
Brad couldn’t contain himself @ 7:16 Lmao Had to let out a lil hump or he was gonna spontaneously combust
recently got a new desk job and it’s been about 3 weeks and my back has already started killing me. I soon realized it was my posture and that I need to change something immediately. I have also noticed a pain in my right testicle when sitting down or laying down that goes on and off. completely random. I feel like this coupled with other stretches will help me get out of this rut thank you Susan. I will give this a try. would you recommend any other simple stretches for posture?
Thank you so much for taking the time to demonstrate this movement, I feel the heal & can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel
I can hardly study for over 1 hour without the PSOAS shortening up and causing discomfort
Looks simple. But after doing these movements I felt like I have been excercising my back for hours. Hoping on the result. Thank you
excellent and educational video for me as I’m in my 2nd year of Massage Therapy School. Thanks so much. And your camera angles are excellent too!
I’m ok lying down but when I drop leg over side ouch, it really hurts my back. Between this muscle AND upper ham string tight…lots of pain…to much sitting at work is killing me. I am going to physical therapy but they haven’t worked much in this area, mostly working on my back pain Dr.s want to give me injections and worst. I’m staying with Bob & Brad. Great explanation guys.
As a massage therapist, we learned this more gentle technique. I want to spread this everywhere. Too many manual therapists dig in deep and cross fiber the heck out of the psoas all while the client nearly passes out from pain. Again, great work!
Thanks so much. I’d gotten so much better, but with increases walking came increased pain on rising. I’m looking for some psoas release so that this can be healed. I’ve done Physical Therapy for months, and this exercise was included in her repertoire except she didn’t include the arched back. Seems to me I get a negative response from the psoas if I do low lunges, back bridges, or anything that truly stretches. Last night, after doing bridge, and this exercise, I went to stand up and actually screamed in pain.
I do these releases on myself without any discomfort. They are quite easy to do in a reclining chair (with legs and torso raised, body in V position). Obviously the benefit is instant feedback and not having to visit any therapist.
Bruh idk… The psoas is super deep behind the intestines.. Unless you actually move the intestines somehow, you cant really reach the psoas. This way you can just press the intestines so that they press the psoas, but that is neither pleasurable or effective. People need to see the psoas on a cadaver, you would then know what im talking about.
I was having such terrible pain in my right leg and lower back that I was desperately searching for some idea how to get relief. Your video was so simple i had doubts that it would be helpful at all but nothing else had worked so I tried it. By tbe time i had completed the exercise my leg had stopped hurting and my back had eased up. I was shocked! Witbin 15 minutes I could feelnthe pain sneaking up again in mynleg so i repeated the exercise and it webt completely awzy and my lower back eased up even more. I am writing this commemt 24 hours later and the pain inmy leg has not returned!! My lower back is slightly sore but not so tight as it usually is. I am going to do this everyday. I feel like I have a tool that will let me manage my pain now. Thank you so much!!!
This segment was brought to you by “Bob & Brad’s ultra stretch non rip dress pants”
You should go to Unflexal Workouts if you’d like to make workouts better guys.
Hi, I can’t wait to try this out, I have a weak back // multifidus muscle and overactive hip flexors and glutes. Will I need to stretch the piriformis as well as the psoas? Thanks
I really don’t know from where to start the comment. In 2010 I got a sedentary job as medical transcriptionist and I am very happy for that. In just 8 months I started gaining weight, then I started doing workouts. One day while I am playing cricket I started getting acute shortness of breath and I really do not what is the reason. Later I went to night shifts and I started getting dry cough. I suffered from it for at least 6 months. I went for all medical examinations, but all are negative. Even though I started doing exercises with shortness of breath I use to gain weight. First time in my life I got severe snoring. Later I developed ringing in the ears and acne on my back. All of these happened one after another. I am unable to sweat as I used to before. I struggled a lot with acid reflux too. I am telling all of this because I just had one problem i.e. my psoas muscle. After 8 years of struggling I came to know that due to long hours of sitting my hip flexors became shorter. Whenever I stretch my psoas muscle then I use to breath easy. Now I am working on stretching the psoas muscle. I just want to ask you one question. Can I stretch my psoas by taking diet whey protein so that it will strengthen that muscle?
What if I have anterior pelvic tilt, but my psoas doesn’t test as tight or weak? For what it’s worth, my back seems to have an exaggerated S shape, very hard for me to straighten it. 40-year-old 135 pound male.
Hey Brent. Some of your videos have helped me throughout my exam period and also in my actual physical exam in physiotherapy. Thank you so much for these.

This explains everything I’ve been dealing with for years! Thank you!
trés bonne vidéo c’est dommage que ce n’est pas en français:(
you remind me of the yoga inmate from orange is the new black:D good video!
I walk in circles (to the left), does that mean that my left psoas is tighter/shorter than the right?
Hi B & B love your vids but I have a quick qu with psoas what if the pain is around the attachments in the back, as all these exercises seem to focus on the frontal attachment? I’m a runner and my issue starts at the back along the spine. thnx
Had to pause at 2:12 to make sure those sirens weren’t coming from my end
I liked your video but it is unhelpful because you don’t talk in simple english so I can’t understand it enough to use it.
Shaking when doing this. Is my hip flexor the problem instead of psoas?
thank you! i was in pain for 6 days and on the verge of tears
Thanks a lot! you are very precise with the explanations and is also fun to learn watching you! thanks
hi sir usually while doing my ab exercise every thing went to my low back i cant fell my abos is psoas is responsible for that sorry for my english
I bought instruction from Unflexal and I learned about workouts.
I’m a dental hygienist. I also have a lot of macular issues. long story short, I feel a lot of pain upper thigh by hip joint. can this be caused by the same thing? also lower back left side pulling. thanks
Thanks so much for this video. Question: My mom can’t get down onto the floor, because getting up is a problem. Do you see any problems with her doing this in bed? Thanks!
Amazing! These guys have saved me so much pain. I can finally get back to running now.
Great and it looks very helpful( I haven’t tried it yet) One question, do you do all the moments on both sides? Thank you for posting.
Thank you Susan! I was just curious to why you only recommended the left side for the variation at 3:42?
Well today I went to the Orthopedic and told me I had bone on bone, arthritis and needed a knee replacement…Not good, but will check this out…
Muchas gracias por compartir este ejercicio, trabajo sentada gran parte del día y realmente me están molestando mis lumbares, veremos como evoluciono con estos ejercicios.
My right foot is like adjacent to the rest of my body when I do this exercise:/
I am hoping this will help me. I was told I had bone spurs in my lower back on both sides also in the middle of my lower back between the two spurs is very tender. I sit at a desk and i didn’t realize the damage I am doing to my body. I am definitely going to move more often and try this when I get home at night. Thank you for the video
Where did you get your mat? What brand is it?! I want to buy one exactly like the one you have!
Uuuuuuhh wtf is goin on at 7:16 brads givin to Bobbay ☝☝………
Thanks really great revision for me… I’ve certainly slipped on my technique recently
I’ve been using furniture sliders for years now, great for planche lean planks and glute bridge reverse Nordic curls (a good warm up for knee tendons before a weighted or plyo squat day)
I have an office job and I am an active athlete, last season I started to feel discomfort in my soas while squatting and sprinting. from what I have read it seems that I have poor ankle mobility and soas tightness. Thank you for this video I am going to work on this. Thank!
This is gold, the real REAL thing, no stupid words no blsht, just look. Thanks, this is far the best I’ve seen.
Spot on explanation. Exactly what happens to my father in law. Going to share the video. Thank you very much
I’ve been dealing with this for 4 years, constantly pain on my QL and hip psoas muscles. What should I do for exercise?
thanks you guys. I was in a car crash years ago and have had problems since. Recently a chiropractor worked on my lower back and he stretched out that muscle. Since then I have been struggling with back and tendon pain in my lower legs. I tried your stretch on the bed and got immediate relief. Thank you so much
My hip is no this. I’m experiencing pain in the front of my left hip. It’s the front ileac crest pain. The pain is not in the back. It’s in the front left pain. What causes this?
is it possible i have breathing problems, like short breathing and anxiety because of psoas tightness? i found out today that there might be a connection. anybody had the same problem? should i just do the releases and no stretching or? great video btw:D
Can you recommend a way to find someone in my area who uses these kind of techniques?
Hi Doc are you supposed to feel a pulse? Our instructor said that was normal.
here’s a few suggestions for treating tight hip flexors at home
Gradually start walking further daily
Try an anti-inflammatory diet
Think about trying yoga lessons
Checkout some online courses
(I read these and the reasons they work on Fergs pain ease website )
That is super cool….But what on earth is the tiny person in there supposed to be doing? The tiny person was baffling.
WHAT IN THE MELANIN FEVER IS THIS!! LMAO sistah! I need you to cough if you are ok with this!!!! oh hell nah
I have a pain on the left side when I try to do this butterfly stretch, but it only comes when I do the butterfly stretch whilst lying/leaning back, and it gets worse when my feet are further away. Is that a sign that my psoas is too tight?
Finally understand this, been struggling with how to tell in Thomas test to see if it’s Posas or rectus femoris tight or not,I get confused
I’m a trucker. Going to try this. Sounds like something all truck drivers need. God Bless you!
I’m very confused. This isn’t working for me. My back stays arched the whole time. I can’t get it to go flat against the floor without tensing up the psoas muscle.
Should I remember to keep my abs engaged to help keep my back strong while doing these exercises?
Thank you for the video! It has been quite helpful.
When you bring your leg up from having it out straight, you flare the leg outwards from the body as you bring it up again. See 2:55. Is this a personal preference, or is there a specific reason?
Susan, I attended the AMTA conference you presented at a few years ago in Lafayette, LA. I learned so much from you that weekend. I still do he exercises as they are quite effective. As a few other viewers inquired, please share the name of your mat. It looks awesome!
Hey great video! Just a quick question. I see you’re going sideways from the Rectus Abdominis, but do you also go front ways into him?
I have an astronomically tight psoas! When I workout entire lower back tightens up at a high level. When I do side leans, extreme tightness etc. Who do you recommend in Las Vegas?
Is it normal for psoas to get irritated/spasm after a night of tossing and turning combined with almost inch raise of SI joint?
can you please tell me about the blue floor mat you’re using? name/brand! it looks like just what I need! thank you.
I have major SI joint dysfunction, pelvic instability, and lower back scoliosis all do to EDS (Ehlers Danlos syndrome, not sure if you’re familiar) my IT band and Piriformis on my right side are insanely tight and today my PT put 2 of my vertebra back in and my left SI back in she noticed that my hip flexers were super tight. She did this on me and gave me a stress ball so I didn’t hit her from the pain. It was incredibly painful but it helped make my legs more equal. Thank you for explaining this to me, I know it was meant for professionals but I find learning about treatments super interesting. Thanks for what you do!
Psoas has a silent P — just like in swimming. Thought you’d like that!
Hopefully not too much risk. In my Bowen training we rarely used that technique. Well only rebel therapists like me who aren’t always well appreciated in the Bowen world. Normally release it at the trochanter right where the Illiacus and the Psoas meet. It’s effective and you can virtually get two for one. Only problem is it tends to hurt the client more than your technique. I wish my clients were as buff as your model. I have to fight through adipose tissue normally.
What muscles are in your back that help you from standing up straight
Thank you for this video. I’ve been trying it and it works. Awesome. I like combining it with this: tinyurl.com/y39oem54 that i’m doing too and they work wonders for me. It’s incredible how lose hips can make a really deep change in your life, not just jump higher but feeling lose and light as well. Thank you again_;)
Hi there, sorry for story hour: I’m late 30s and have what feels like very stiff, almost seized up, painful hips, lower back and upper legs. I sit a lot for work, but I also do plenty of regular walking/moving to try and keep things mobile. When it’s really bad I have trouble bending down, or lifting my legs to put pants on (!), pain across lower back and shooting pain down outsides of thighs, sometimes down to knees and calves. Worse on one side usually but when standing, or moving to a stand, or walking, can be both sides. Physio (that takes five months to get in and see for basic consult) said not sciatica, just tight hips and gave me some glute contraction and hip stretch exercises but after a few months it has not helped and it’s worse each time it comes back/flares. Thinking of trying a chiro or massage therapist. Know you can’t diagnose or anything over the web and understand if you can’t recommend anything but thought I’d ask anyway: is this the sort of release I should be asking them to try out or is there another that might be better? Is chiro or massage better for this sort of thing? I hurt! Sorry and thank you for your time:)
Hey great video! Just a quick question. I see you’re going sideways from the Rectus Abdominis, but do you also go front ways into him?
What do you think of the pso rite tool for hitting the psoas doing personal mfr?
when performing these stretches is it not recommended to warm up the muscle first rather than pulling them cold, as I have done this and felt pain in the PSOAS muscle
Tight psoas and cycling = agh.
7:00 reminds me of the George Costanza photo shoot from Seinfeld.
I work my iliacus on my side…lets the abs fall to the side towards the floor…then reach my hand across and I can get in there really good
This ass hole used every big word he could find. Just speak in English and show the point to put pressure. Jesus
I hurt my back about 5 years ago and my lower back hurts me so bad sometimes to wear if I do too much I’ve been down I want to fall frontwards because my back muscles are so weak before I hurt my back I’ve never had that problem I’ve been to chiropractors doctors I got a appointment with the orthopedic specialist in a few weeks I don’t know what else to do about my situation
When I straighten my leg slowly there is a sound (kind of tug of bone, hard to explain ) is the hip flexor too tight?
I had a baaaad muscle spasm in my left psoas 3 months ago, was literally stuck between my bed and dresser for an hour because I couldn’t move from the pain and when I was able to finally lay down I was stuck for another 4. I’m just now getting it treated cause I had no idea what it was and I couldn’t do anything without it flaring up. Doing A.R.T right now (sucks big time but I feel like it helping release it), definitely going to try these stretches at home!
Excellent video, and I like the banter between them during the video! Good presentation.
Also look at maximizing awareness those are the best for all kinds of troubles with muscles
tres attentive à celà! car j’en aie souffert! si possible j’aimerai la traduction en français!
Thanks so much for this great comprehensive break down of the Psoas Muscle!
My psoas seems to deactivate once the hip is less than 90 degrees flexed. How can I tell it to keep working under 90 degrees? RF is not supposed to pull that load on by itself…
I had a pain in my psoas for a year, now I don’t know how but it doesn’t hurt, but know I have a pain in the back of my hip, I feel it in the bone when I run, because I usually run unless the pain. The psoas and the other pain have somethimg in commun?? Should I run? The psoas pain will come back?
Go should go to Unflexal Workouts webpage if you’d like to learn more about workouts. Good new solutions for everyone I think.
Mr.barent am not understand when you ask pt to push you pt what did exactly?! Abduction or flexion?!
With thankful for amazing videoe
I have fallen 2 times in 2 months, I am operated of the meniscus of right knee. I do work out, and do Yoga once a week. As a senior I do Silver Sneakers, so we stretch a bit. My friend said maybe my Psoas was weak, and after reading about the muscle, when I fell I just 90 degrees and fell on my right side. From the explanation here I may have a weak psoas muscle, but will find out soon. After Dr. says I can return to my routine of exercises. This video is good, and what I read about Yoga helped me a lot. Thanks so much.
I have scoliosis and have developed hip pain. Ive been watching your hip pain videos and doing some of the stretches and where Im getting my relief is from the Psoas ecercises. Thank you! Also, FYI, I am a school bus driver. Could this be contributing?
Could these exercises be done on a bed? My Dad, at 89 does not get onto the floor well. Thanks! Deb
What assessments will let me know that psoas/iliacus are involved?
Ok guys I have a question for you, I have constant lower back pain just above my belt line on my left hand side but I have noticed my right foot seem to be pointing outwards a lot more than my left foot! would this be cause by tight Psoas? looking forward to some help. cheers..
I cannot thank you guys enough, been dealing with sever lower back pain for almost a year. Ten minutes of stretching and I am pain free. Thank you!!!!!!
right side psoas is very tight….the biggest problem doing this exercise is the GLUTES not working when trying to lift the leg up….
Can this muscle pull a testicle up on one side of the body? I have over 5 ultrasounds and theres no testicle torsion or physical problems to my penis or testicles. My left testicle aches and pulls up and just feels out of place. ALL doctors said I’m completely fine physically. I have back pains and weak ejaculation.
This was informative but at same time I thought I was watching a tim and Eric sketch
My back goes out every couple weeks. Delayed onset, 1 day cant walk, 2nd crawling,3 on my feet shuffling, 4th day almost normal, 5th day ok but fearful of re-injury guarded movements, 2-3 week muscle spasm and back to square 1. Rinse and repeat.
I have the opposite issue. Posterior left tilt from lifting and setting down a large tube tv. Need to fix this after 6 months of messing with it.
where is the pain stemming from to where i need to receive this strech?
Whoa! This is incredible. Finally see how the Illipsoas work and the source of my pain.
Seriously this is so helpful. i thought it was my back from an L2 compression fracture 20 years ago, i think it is my psoas muscle insertion/origin issue. %^&*()!
Hi Susan. What is that blue pad you have? Been looking for something like that!
