The top tenets of a pegan diet include choosing foods with a low glycemic load; eating lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds (about three-quarters of your daily intake), choosing grass-fed or sustainably raised meats when you do eat meat; avoiding chemicals, additives, pesticides, and GMOs; getting plenty of healthy fats like omega-3s and unsaturated fat; and eating organically and locally.Pegan diet mainly encourages followers to eat more whole, unprocessed foods, fruits and vegetables. But it requires less or controlled consumption of meat, poultry, seafood and grains. The foods allowed to eat on pegan diet are meat of grass-fed beef or lamb, free-range poultry, cage-free eggs, wild-caught salmon, sardines and tuna.
The pegan diet is based on paleo and vegan principles — though it encourages some meat consumption. It emphasizes whole foods, especially vegetables, while largely prohibiting gluten, dairy. The pros The pegan diet recommends that most of your diet should be made up of fruit and vegetables. That’s a great start, as most people don’t eat anywhere near enough of these nutritional powerhouses that fight-disease, contain essential micronutrients and provide fibre for a healthy gut.
The Pegan diet is a successful diet because it is well-balanced. It cuts out all the foods that cause inflammation and weight gain in a majority of the population. Try it and see how a good, well-balanced diet and lifestyle can change your life in a jiffy. The pegan diet combines certain aspects of both to create a unique cross between the two. Proponents of the diet claim that it can help reduce inflammation, regulate blood sugar levels and improve overall health.
The Pegan Diet Combines Two Trendy Diets—So Is It Twice as Healthy? Our nutritionist weighs in on the pros and cons of a paleo-vegan eating plan. By Amanda MacMillan.O’Connor says, “The biggest challenge with the pegan diet is getting adequate calories.
Since the diet does restrict many different food groups, it can be a challenging diet for someone who is.“What I think is positive about the Pegan diet is that it’s another so-called ‘clean eating’ approach,” says Cooking Light nutritionist Carolyn Williams, PhD, RD. “There’s an emphasis on whole foods, less processed foods, and real food, rather than foods with added sugars or added fat.Paleo Diet Pros Balanced The Paleo diet is founded on balanced nutrition—eating proteins, carbohydrates, and fats in just right amount that your body needs to thrive. Nutrient Dense Whole Foods Like Vegan, Paleo is ALL about real, nutrient-dense whole foods. It Works!
Pros. It Works! offers a broad array of products. This company has been around since 2001. It Works! supplements and body wraps contain some ingredients that are backed by science.
A 30-day return policy is posted on the official website. It Works! Cons.
You can only return It Works! products that are unopened and unused.“Choosing between paleo, vegan or pegan, pegan is the best diet of choice because having fruits and vegetables as 75% of your daily food intake is likely to reduce the daily caloric intake for many of us, and the pegan diet integrates a wonderful balance between meat, fruits and veggies. It is worth trying.”.The pegan diet is a mashup, or collaboration if you will, of the vegan and paleo diets.
It appears to date back to 2014, when it was first mentioned in a blog post by Mark Hyman, MD, a celebrity functional medicine physician. He points out that elite athletes like Lebron James follow a paleo diet, while vegan Rich Roll completed five Iron Man competitions.Pros: Done well, vegan and vegetarian diets are brimming with phytonutrient-rich plant foods. Diets high in vegetables and deeply pigmented, low-glycemic fruits like berries are consistently correlated with improved health and longevity. Eating more plants is.
But unlike veganism, the pegan diet allows for a moderate amount of consumption of meat and eggs – with the assertion that the animals we take these products from are grass-fed and pasture-raised. This stipulation is important, as grass-fed and pasture-raised animals tend to have a better quality of life than grain-fed, battery-farmed animals.

Wanted to share: The Game Changers | Official Trailer Benefits of a plant based diet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSpglxHTJVM
Interesting. Just in the last few days my husband & I have been researching & implementing these similar dietary options in the hopes of reducing inflammation & breaking weight loss stalls but we didn’t have a name for it. It was already getting overwhelming because we were winging it. It was wanting to eat more plant based, but not wanting to give up meat or dairy 100%. What I’ve been encountering though is my husband asking a lot of questions he hopes I have the answer to, “can I eat eggs, can I drink whey protein, is peanut butter ok?” It’s wanting to do the best thing for our bodies but not knowing what’s best.
This video was perfect timing. Thank you!!!! We now have guidelines!!
I love this diet and mine is based on Dr. Hazel Parcells who lived to 106
I’m eating whole food plant based Vegan diet but starting to eliminating grains but not adding animal protein into my diet.. I do supplement my diet with zinc and b12 and do add spirulina for my dha and keep my omegas high!!
Vegan and plant based are two totally different things. Vegan by definition is to cause the least harm to animals. (Not just in diet but lifestyle, cosmetics, clothing, fabric etc) Slaughtering them for your appetite is not vegan. I only say this because so many people get the terms mixed up and quite frankly it’s disgusting to hear someone say the word vegan and consuming death in the same sentence.
Thanks for all the amazing info as usual!! What are the best options for clean seafood? We only do eggs and seafood for protein, so I’d love some suggestions especially when shopping at Aldi
I’m not sure what diet to use…I recently found out I have kidney stones, so I’m fasting more than anything
Please tell me that the Straw in your drink is not Aluminum.
How about you research EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil. Did you know that cancer society is sponsored by the company that makes chicken mcnuggets?
Good to hear you are pro organic meat and unprocessed food Am more carnivore keto/ AIP.
I can’t find your video about blasting kidney stones..please help me
Loved this video we are on very similar dietary lifestyle I must be ‘Peketo’? lool basically 80% plant based daily, high fat, good proteins especially fatty fish (rarely meat), low carb, OMAD 6 days a week and daily exercise.
Thank you for this video. I just watched “What the Health” on Netflix and food concerns that I have are ramped up even more after watching it. Wondered if you saw it. I dont know about byson due to availability and price but definitely can do fish. I like Ezekiel bread but pricey. With two hungry teenagers budget and health are at the top of our list. Didn’t know about peanut butter issues
Thank you for sharing Dr Melissa. I eat more like you; my main focus is to eat to balance my hormone, I will say paleo diet, 80-85% plant based, not much on cheeses, occasionally an organic sheep/goat feta cheese, organic eggs, occasionally grass-fed organic beef, ghee, lots of bone broth. Nut milk, nuts and seeds, selected fishes like Sardines, Salmon, Mackerel, herring etc.
Thank you for mentioning that you avoid peanuts! Firstly, they are not a nut. They are a legume aka bean. Too many people aren’t aware of this, they think they are eating a healthy nut and gorge on peanuts which don’t have any redeeming inherent health properties. Mistakenly people think they are a good source of protein. If anyone does eat peanuts only ever eat organic. Perhaps you could do a short video on the drawbacks of peanuts to make everyone aware?
I follow Dr. Hyman on YT, Insta, & his podcast. He’s amazing! I like what you said about there not being only one perfect diet for everyone. I think Pegan is a great option for many, but for myself, I need to be even lower carb to feel my best. I’ve been keto for over 4 years and it seems to be optimal for me. For those with diabetes (like me) or insulin resistance, much fruit and anything starchy is a real problem. There are definitely people thriving on an animal based carnivore diet too, many of them former vegans. Sounds crazy but they must have some kind of genetic difference that makes them more sensitive to the lectins, oxalates, and other anti-nutrients found naturally in plant foods. Some are actually reversing serious auto-immune diseases with that way of eating. There doesn’t seem any way to know but trial and error what will work best.
What would you suggest to eat to build blood? I would like to start eating less red meat. Thx
We are so lucky to have the Maui Cattle Company for local, grass fed beef. Trying to stay organic for everything else, and staying away from anything labeled farmed and low fat, they usually replace the fat with sugar!
The calorie issue is one that you can fix by simply eating more. Smoothies are good way to get in extra nutrients and calories, and playing with the calorie density of your meals can fix that.
Can you do a video on what makeup you use? I don’t like wearing makeup on a regular basis. I’d like to clean it up and wear some trusted products. I’d love to hear what you think.
1.Our ancestors did not die or get disease from eating meat.
All things considered to watch a video. The work appeared on the video was imperative for me, I found a video like this. Much thanks, giving you the chance to watch the video.
