I work 4 ten hour shifts a week. I do go to bed at midnight and get up around 8. I tend to workout shortly after I get up. I have to work from 1-11. That’s not optimal but it’s okay, yes?

You should do a philosophy podcast. You’d probably touch on politics. The reason you aren’t morally obligated to donate all of your income is because the probability of you surviving on zero dollars a year is pretty low and if you’re dead you can’t help people anymore. We are absolutely morally obligated to give to charity. It is morally evil to vote to take away other peoples money and force them to give. As a Christian I give at least 10% of everything I make into anybody who wants to give but doesn’t know where, just buy somebody’s food and the fast food line behind you. But also he gave a specific instance of a person you could help not big instances of giving all your money to a group and hope they help people with it. I don’t give cash to homeless people but you can buy food gift cards maybe McDonald’s five dollars and give those to people. We actually know that there is a hugh impact on your testosterone level from stress, so in my opinion, you should train when it’s the most comfortable for you

Working in the morning after a long night sleep is way more efficient for so many reasons!
1You are totally focused and your will power is full
2You give yourself the sense of accomplishment through out the day and this feeling of achievement will increase your testosterone through out the day
3Every meal that you have after your workout is a POST workout Meal that will aid in recovery.
5You will have more things to do after school or your job if you finish your workout in the morning.
6The metabolism is highest in the morning! So you have the chance to burn more fats with the workout!
7You have the chance to train on a fasted state if you train before breakfast which will push towards more fat burning.
8Training Naturally increases Cortisol Level, cortisol is what makes you rise up from bed to get ready for the day, so training when your cortisol levels are higher is healthy.
Training at night though or in the late after noon, after a long day, can increase your cortisol way too high at night, and this increase in cortisol will hinder any testosterone production at night for recovery because cortisol and testosterone are inversely related.
Finally, if you feel that your muscles are stiff in the morning and your joint are not really at their best it is simply because you need to warm up for 5 mins of cardio or other simple movements.

Just heads up,from 300pm and 600pm wrong time to workout. Our body has a sleep mode,that’s why when you eat lunch at 12pm you reach a lazy mode from it till 300pm. digestive mode.You feel lazy your body has a slow mode which is called hibernation mode like animals. The question of moral obligations really seem obvious on its face, but it’s not. There are acts which can be considered moral, yet not be an obligation, and vice versa. For example, you could become a fireman, and help lots of people. Or you could, like Singer says, donate your money. However, these cannot be moral duties because you are simply being nice without any reason. Now, let’s say I manage to damage your property on accident. I was playing soccer, and hit your window. Now, it’s more than clear that I should be morally obligated to pay for it. Why? It’s my fault. For something to be a duty, it has to be your fault. Otherwise you’re being nothing but nice.
This distinction has to be made otherwise we can tell anyone that they’re obligated to do anything and everything that’s good, which makes no sense.

I drink a ton of coffee in the morning so my performance is best early afternoon. You can’t take too much caffeine for an evening training session without it impacting on sleep.

Since you like moral philosophy, I’m going to play devil’s advocate a bit as I also like moral philosophy.
Morality is the prescription of a set of personally held values which pursue eudimonia. A man who flourishes is one who pursues the good is one basic assumption of moral theory as flourishing is the good in the conception of most moral philosophers, but a man is not always acting immorally if he does not act towards the good, he could be not acting which is always merely amoral as not acting cannot pursue anything as only nothing can come from nothing. No one is obligated to do anything beyond provide for their own survival and that is only mandated by biology and biology can motivate not doing that at times as well. Would it be good to save the child? Yes. Is it obligatory? Not necessarily, because being moral isn’t an obligation. Is it good? Well obviously, but not acting can never be immoral as not doing something can neither be good nor bad. It can’t cause the good and it can’t caused the bad. Non-action is always amoral. Drowning the child is immoral. Not preventing the child from drowning is amoral. Not stopping a drug dealer from dealing dirty heroin is not something that causes the dirty heroin to be sold. The two people involved in the sale made choices and actions that caused the exchange. You are not responsible for the exchange in any way as you are a complete third party. There is no reason why anyone needs to get involved so there is no obligation to get involved. Would it be kind of you to get involved and would someone who is pursuing eudimonia get involved? I’d say so, but is it mandated that to be a good person, they must get involved? Most certainly not. Imagine this for a moment: the drowning child is drowning because they never learned how to swim due to some fault of their own; they had every possible opportunity to learn to swim and simply made the wrong choices or couldn’t learn the skill adequately because of some hand that nature delt them. Who is responsible for the child drowning? If you didn’t cause the child to drown, you’re not logically or morally responsible for the life of another. What is it would be more beneficial if the child died? They might be the next baby Hitler for all you know. Similarly, if someone is ill entirely by their own mismanagement of their body, is it society’s responsibility to care for them or would it be better for society if they were held responsible for their actions? Our sympathy is almost never a logical justification for our actions.

I worked out fasted in the morning for last year and a half. Now With a new job I started training in the evening. I was able to build more muscle and got strength gains. I think it’s due to the carbs from my meals from earlier in the day

I go at 1-3am after a nap and that’s because the gym is empty and I own the whole place taking up 7 machines with dumbbells covering the floor. If anyone walks in, I throw a 45lb plate like a frisbee into their throat and send them packing.

The ideas of moral accountability and moral obligation are interesting though I’ve always leaned toward the discussions on cognitive biases and the debate over free will. Side note I end up sharing nearly every vid of yours I watch with one client or another. BEST to workout late, that way your muscles arent further torn down doing your daily work.
Also your muscles grow after they heal (rest) so going to bed helps your body relax and muscles can heal.
NEVER WORKOUT A SORE MUSCLE, wait for the soreness to go away.

Cardio opens AMPK pathways which promote fat loss and catabolic aerobic states.
Weight training opens the mTOR pathways which promote hypertrophy and protein synthesis in anaerobic states. If at all possible, proper cardio on a separate day.
As for training time, I can run at 5am especially if I eat junk the night before, but weight training I feel best around lunch time. Energy/hydration does feel lacking first thing, even in a calorie surplus most days.

I think I need some help. I have been doing a lot, but I am having a hard time staying organized, staying true to my ways, and implementing some of your preaching. For example, last night I ate my last meal at 7pm, this morning in a fasted state I worked out for an hour, 45 min later Im drinking black coffee. I will not eat until 5 or 6pm tonight. I usually workout by 11am in a fasted state and then dont eat till 1pm (first meal of the day). I find the gym can be packed around 4-5pm (this maybe after school early finish workdays), seems to be around when the body is at its warmest as mentioned. But you can emulate that with green tea extract thermogenics + dress warm.

Great information. I have always worked out in the morning because of my busy schedule. Now I know what to do to optimize my workout.
Ginseng is also good pre-workout when you’re feeling lethargic. I sometimes work out between 11PM-1AM.
As a lifeguard you’re taught to never jump in to save a drowning person because they’ll pull you under and drown you out of sheer panic. I totally understand the moral question but the situation in itself could lead to you dying so that would be contradictory to the whole “it wont have any bad effect on other people” also you can save a suicidal person and get sued. So i dont think the question is ever this easy. If it was a small fountain and a child was drowning that could easily be saved without hurting yourself fatally or someone else then yes you would be, in my opinion, morally obligated to save the child. In saying all of this, i would save the person regardless of bodily harm to myself because thats the kind of person i am and the kind of person i was raised to be. The question of morality is never black and white like this, theres always so many variables that people get lost in protecting themselves that they dont want to help others. This is why hitchhiking is basically nonexistent in the states now. I would love an answer to how to handle the complete untrustworthiness strangers have for each other nowadays. My parents said people used to trust each other more often than not. Nowadays it seems the polar opposite, its few and far in between you find someone trustworthy and its hardly ever in a stranger.

Sorry Omar but this video is just wrong. You really need to learn how to judge if a source is realiable or not. Your so called article is just plain incorrect and unserious. It is well documented that your testosterone is at it’s peak in the morning. Our body releases testosterone in cycles from around 10 pm to 5 am, the time our body is supposed to sleep. Therefore our testosterone is at it’s highest early in the morning and then declines during the day, hence why we have morning boners. Don’t listen to what is being said in this video because it simply isn’t true. I hope you step your game up Omar, it’s sad because the majority of your following does not have the basic knowledge to decide wether or not the information you share is correct.

i Prefer working out in the morning because its more consistent especially with school, as long as you have a protein shake, eat a small meal and warm up properly i don’t really see much of a difference, just my 2 cents
Wen I run within 5 minutes after waking up, I lose weight super fast. My body just seems to have a faster metabolism with a little running or jogging

It’s not my intention to challenge you, but testosterone levels are actually highest upon first waking. If you’ve ever had an endocrinologist examine your testosterone levels, they typically want you to have blood drawn within an hour of waking up because your level goes down throughout the day. Morning for me. Simply its less busy waiting for weights and machines.
So your best time is basically after you wake up and eve. If its 1-3-5hours after. Your body will adjust anyway but you have to keep sleep consistent.
Mornings are definitely the best for me. Hands down. My motivation is highest in the morning and it gets me pumped for the day. The last thing I want to do is go to the gym after work.

I used to be obese and I did HIITS for 20 min as soon as I was done weight training, 5 days a week. Lost 87 pounds in 3 months. I cut my daily calorie intake by 500 calories and would still eat pretty much whatever I wanted. I was eating a snickers bar every single day. But, I would never eat anything deep fried at all. So I would get a cheese burger and some chicken tenders for example, but no fries. I lost a ton of weight, and performed better and better at the HIITS as time went by. I only saw positive results doing cardio after the weight training, including a ton of fat loss and Yes I gained a very significant amount of muscle in that 3 month period. I got those newbie gains. I would say that I prob gained about 10 pounds of lean muscle. Some of my weight lifting coworkers were implying that I was taking steroids. Which I def was not.
My gym is too crowded in the eve, so I like early am workouts.
I’ve always preferred to workout in the evening at 6pm because I felt i performed better during my workout than if I worked out earlier. I actually love to workout both in the mornings, and at nights. Weights in the mornings/ early afternoons, and taekowndo at nights for three times a week. Which is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
I go around 2pm since I work a night schedule and I can see a difference in my self all natural no pre workout or anything just eating right and lifting weights

I like research based videos on training but they generalise. personally my best workouts are definitely always morning on empty stomach. if i train after food even 3\4 hours after food sometimes it makes me significantly weaker. when fasted I always lift at least 10k more on every exercise. Food makes me weak so if I eat later the more food in my system the weaker I get. I guess the science doesn’t apply to me. I’m pro science but a lot of the time it ends up as a generalisation.
My preference is midday. Doesn’t always work out that way, but always cardio after.
I train before lunch. I’m already fueled from breakfast and then I refill with lunch
I don’t really care: I’m 50 and have been skinny-fat started lifting about 4 weeks ago, taking supplements like boron and maca root for T, and I’m seeing a difference (slow, but that’s ok by me) in my muscle definition if not size (yet). I don’t think the food issue will affect me too much, because I’m ketogenic. That said, I feel healthier than I ever have, and to me that’s what counts. Only think I take is collagen creatine doesn’t work for me.

I once read that testosterone levels were highest at sunrise and sunset and it was suggested that around these times were the best to workout. Other studies will even show that athletes who were observed and asked to do the exercise in their mind, their same muscles fired. Imagine visualising lifting really heavy and getting big as a result! Either way, your channel is slick with clear narration and guidance that I certainly follow to a degree. “try some of column A, try ALL of column B…!”

One point though that you’ve mistaken in though; LH is not a testosterone precurser ( 3:30). It stimulates test synthesis but is not a precurser in the biochem pathway of test production.
I mainly workout in the morning. It’s my ritual. I’m a cyclist and always got up before the cars got on the road. Been doing intermittent fasting and hitting the gym in the morning. It’s been great for me.
Better performance in the afternoon is actually to do with circadian rhythm. We are strongest at 5-8pm.
It’s similar to how going to bed (and sleeping) between 9pm-12pm promotes melatonin (which is needed for hormone regulation), thus resulting in more testosterone.
I love doing 20 min cardio then 40 min of weight lifting. But I don’t want to be that guy who is sweating profusely all over the gym equipment. So until I get my own gym at home, I’ll be the civilized citizen of Earth and do weights then cardio.

I work out in the morning cuz if I dont I have it in the back of my mind the thought “o god I still have to work out”. If I work out in the afternoon I find it more difficult to eat strictly. I think oh “I can eat this today I’ll burn it during my workout”. When I workout In the morning, eating healthy is easier since I have been using my will power since the start with waking up early and working out.

I found no difference between working out at 6 AM (wake up at 5 AM) and working out at 11 PM.

I’m mainly looking to gain lots of muscle though with good performance, whilst losing some fat and keeping fat low. I guess if you eat a surplus the day prior then train fasted in the morning, you should have a good amount of energy still to train muscles hard? I also prefer training on an empty stomach provided there’s enough energy, because even eating something light like oatmeal with whey protein, it can give me indigestion and feel like it’s talking long to go away (makes me feel a tad like not doing anything physical).

Imo AM is great for mental conditioning. Due to our bodies recovering in our sleep we make more recovery if we workout before we go to bed

I work graveyard shifts and I’m exhausted all the time so my sleep cycles are way off one day I can sleep all the way through for 12 hrs and some days I barely get any sleep

For me personally fuck that morning bullshit. I’m not properly hydrated or fed. A co-worker kept saying how better it is so I tried it for a month. My workouts sucked. My bench went down and my overall reps went down. Mind was blown. Started shifting back to nights and bam never had to work my way back up. I was able to pick up where I left off. Fuck morning workouts. It’s leftover bullshit from the Arnold days where they thought you had the most energy first thing.
What about cardio in the morning and heavy workout in the evening? Is there any benefits to that?

I think the reason evening is better might be because you are closer to sleeping, a significant period of time where you are expending minimum energy and will be recovering/growing. Working out in the morning you still have to get through the rest of the day.

Also, studies do show that wakefulness and alertness is at its highest in the morning hours, which can aid in improved performance, thus greater volume, and greater gains. Same goes for early afternoon training, where studies also showed greater performance. Increased cortisol levels might seem bad, but considering it’s a stress hormone, it will elicit the energy that ties closely to catecholamines.
Also, the MPS stimulus might from exercise be at its peak immediately after training, but it also stays elevated for many more hours after. Timing workouts might be important for threshold trainers, but for the majority, it’s as important as timing protein (which isn’t much).

Hey comment section I’ve been trying to diy a functional medicine approach to being healthy, does someone know of a good resource to learn how to read blood work/ know what labs to ask for? For us 3rd shifters, for all your videos (not just this specific video), could you start including referencing sleep/wake times rather than just morning/afternoon/night? My “morning” is typically 5pm or later, while everyone else’s is more like 7am. By “morning” you mean around an hour after waking up? “Afternoon” more like 4 hours after waking? “Night” something like 10-12 hours after waking?

I work as a Groundsperson, a very physically demanding 9 hour shift so I have no choice but to hit the gym after work at night but I found that It gives me far better result overall.

Other possible reasons are
1. We have lower testosterone level at evening (around 8 pm it’s the lowest). Working out at that time may help raise testosterone level. Which means you’ll have relatively higher testosterone level throughout the day if you workout at evening.
2. Sleep helps muscle recovery. Maybe it’s better for muscle recovery if we work out a few hours before sleep. I’ve personally experienced better sleep if I work out 4-5 hours before sleep, also it feels better both mentally and physically in the morning.
(I just guessed these things based on few actual facts and my personal experience. So these theories have the possibility of being totally wrong and completely baseless broscience)

Shouldn’t a caveat be a persons schedule, & not the timeframe the moon rises & sun sets.
This has been very interesting and has given me a different perspective with my workouts.
Even with the morning and evening statistics, there are so many variables, everyone is different and their lifestyles and jobs are different too, I work out in the morning because I can actually get to the equipment, at 5pm everyone is rushing to every gym after work so you cant do anything, the other reason is my body feels more fresh, I’m a sheet metal worker, I have to hammer at so many awkward angles that my shoulders suffer, which in turn really shows when I do any pressing or even a squat, so for me mornings feel fresher

Since watching the twins video’s and starting IF, it really makes more sense to wake up a hour earlier and go in the morning. Especially when using a pre-workout.. Try taking a pre-workout at 8:30/9pm and then trying to sleep a couple hours later… NOT HAPPENING! you’re gonna be running laps around your bed.
Testosterone doesn’t peak at night, it peaks in the early morning.
You want cortisol to be high because that’s when you will have the most energy, you are the most sympathetic, rather than parasympathetic.

Your testosterone levels are highest in the morning and then fluctuate during the day to taper off in the evening. Yes your cortisol is higher first in the morning because its intended to wake you up. If you are not on TRT it really dosent matter because of the testosteron fluctuations during the day(with trt you would have a more stable level given if you’re using injections and not gels/creams.)

Hey Omar. Great video, I found it very informative. But I can’t help but ask how this applies to intermittent fasting? You see I fast for about 16-20 hours a day and I train fasted as well. I’ve studied alot of scientific journals as well as following youtubers like Kinobody who suggest that fasting combined with fasted resistance training is very effective at promoting not only a testosterone increase, but also super insulin sensitivity and more HGH pulses throughout the day seeing that HGH and insulin are antagonist hormones?
I do 0430 workouts. Gym is packed in the evening. I’ll have to add coffee with my preworkout. Thanks for the info!

when you train in the morning, you look far more handsom through out the day with awesome defintiions and pumps gained during the morning workout…wereas… when you workout in the evening you know…your body loses pumps during sleep, water etc and you look less fit during the day…why do i need to workout in the evening if people can’t see my gains during the day lol thats my point of vue tho:)

Fasting all day, heavier workout in the evening about 7 pm followed by a protein shake ot BCAA, and a cup of chia seeds and then meal around 20pm. Bro i’ve got a couple of questions, and have no idea what to do. i’m lost.
I was skinny with minor fat in some areas, 55-57 Kgs. since 4 years of my employment/desk job, sitting all day, i went to 75 Kgs after marriage, im only 26 right now.
Started lifting/working out 25 Days ago. im working out 2 hours per day, 6 days a week
im only 5ft 4.5in 72 Kgs/158.95 pounds (lost 1kg already now) and i along with people around me can see huge results only in 25 days, maybe because i did bodybuilding for 1 year 2-3 years ago+genetics.
1) I do 1 body part per day, (wanna add lean muscle/size lose fat and get a body like you 😉 as ur my ideal) and I train 2 hrs as my friend who is into lifting since 4 years, said i should do cardio (HIIT) and abdomen (abs/love handles) workout every day along with 1 body part/day, as i am skinny fat, got huge belly, and sides.
Question: should i do cardio (HIIT) and abs/love handles every day? is this correct?
2) I do cardio after weight training (HIIT) as i’ve heard/read that this way im not gonna lose muscle but fat.
Question: is this correct? or should i do cardio before weight training?
3) im on a caloric deficit, 2,000 calories/day, according to couple of online calculators. Could this be right?
+Im on intermittent fasting too.
4) From past 2 days, i couldn’t make it through the session after halfway through, felt low on energy, like low blood sugar+blood pressure+fatigued like+couldn’t lift heavier. Note: I did have a dead-lift session before these 2 days and didnt take a day rest after that. before these 2 days, i was smashing the weights and doing it like there’s no tomorrow. these 25 days feel like months. im drinking moderate water, having half of the quantity as carbs in the 1st and last(4th) big meal, and low carbs in pre and post workout meals.
Question: what could be causing this weakness-ish?
5) I am on no supplement at the moment. No Whey Protein, no BCAA or common EAA, anything at all. Because the everywhere on the internet people are shovng supplements in our hand as all they want do is profit, that’s another reason for me to like you, as in all of your videos, you dont bring up a supplement in the end! TADAAA!! BUY THIS!! AND JUST BY LOOKING AT IT YOU BUILD MAASAL!!!
So, Question: Should i really start taking supplements? Complex BCAAs/Protein Shakes Pre or during workout for energy? Recovery? Deficiency? etc.?
Note: i work out at home, have a dedicated room, with treadmill, bars, dumbbells, adjustable Bench, crunch mahcine etc, nothing less than an average gym.

If you work a schedule that rotates does it make a difference if you do a fasted cardio or workout in the afternoon because you worked overnight and slept afterwards and got your workout in when you woke up versus you worked in the afternoon so you went to the gym after you get out of work and then go home and go to sleep?

I’m currently working out in the evenings but decided i’m going to get into working out early AM’s. Evening is better, becuz in the morning your mostt likely weak after waking up, and if in the evening after eating, doing anything. You got some extra energy and also will lose more fats becuz you already have eaten, so if you do your workout at the evening or after eating,doing things, will trigger your fats to melt and not adds, also helps you get good sleep becuz you get so tired to do things, so your only choice is to sleep, im bad at english, so i hoped you get it
I’m up around 6pm, and by far 1-2pm is my favorite time to go; but I work full time and I can’t always take lunch then. SO sometimes I go at 6am… is there like, and actual ISSUE with going in the morning? I try to save it for lighter days, full body/yoga/cardio etc.

a child was drag out to sea and my first reaction was to go in and save him. Man i can tell you not fun at all. the currents were so strong but i was able to get the child to safety but i ended up getting dragged back out to sea, got caught in a rip and struggled to swim my way back to shore i gave up after 30mins of hard nonstop swimming. I prefer to train in the morning because as a Type 2 diabetic my blood sugar numbers tend to be at their highest during that time, but go way down after my workouts. Due to scheduling reasons though most of my workouts lately have been in the mid afternoon.

Well, if you workout in the evening, then the gym is crowded, causing frustration in not being able to get a open bench/equipment, which leads to raised cortisol levels and discouragement and lack of muscle growth LOL!! That’s why I work out in the morning. I do use Thomas’s fasting pre workout (thanks Thomas) and this helps give me energy. I think as long as you have a good carby meal before bed, the morning workouts can still be good. If you are keto it’s a bit tougher.

the best time to work out is first thing in the morning, 5 am if you have a normal day job. testosterone is at its peak level. but the best reason is if you want to work out again, after work you get in two workouts, i.e. like athletes and ripped movie stars. but if not you’ve already done your morning workout than you can chill with your lazy family.

Most people do it directly before they work out, i find, that it is much better for me when i take the caffeine much much earlier in the day. What is your perspective on this? Would be very cool to see a video on that topic!
