We are down here at FT CAMPBELL ARMY BASE hitting it now. Using this as motivation.
But you have thought that these patches are poorly designed, for what you want to do with them and in that way. At no time the cachelos is intended to protect your clavicle, scapula, kidneys, lumbar, hip, chest, sternum and ribs and I no longer tell you the spine. If you want to do it to have a little more weight and then be lighter. who has been the lights of that idea. If you want to use it very well, first you have to put some pad on the shoulders to protect the clavicle, have the weight of the shoulders raised and separated, then you adjust the velcro the second inside the vest in separation with the weight, put on some pads. It will protect you from intact in the chest from falls.

4 Years later and you still see snarky comments about form. Crossfit is not bodybuilding. They do not do pull ups to build back muscle, they do it in the most ease of way functional way possible to get it done. Every sport has different intentions. You won’t look at at an endurance athlete and tell them to lift more if they’re body/form works for them and you won’t tell a strength athlete to run a marathon. Jheeze, narrow minded much?

Everyone complaining about the pull ups but can’t/won’t do “Murph”
Pregnant version for me, because 33 weeks pregnant. I will do 1.6k run (have my own weight vest around 10 kilo) then do 100 bent over row with 2x 12.5kg dumbell, 200 push ups hopefully all from toes and then 300 squats with extra weight vest of 6kg and end with 1.6k run

I remember we had to do this for hell week on my football team and I have so much respect now for these guys
I have access to a park with half picnic tables outside, so mine’s going to be murph with table rows, no weight vest, full 1 mile run but about half the reps (I suck so much at push-ups that it’ll be 20 rounds of 3/5/8 = 60 rows, 100 push-ups and 160 squats). Whether it rains or snows I’ll be out there no matter what!

Americans can’t stand the heat, but there they are under the sun of California killing themselves in this boring competition, doing this thing they have the courage to call pull-ups… I mean, it’s not fun to watch. Just finished a modified Murph. I’m unable to run due to an injury (slipped off the monkey bars during a Spartan and landed on my left knee, resulting in very small tears in my meniscus and ACL) so I walked the mile with a 40 pound sandbag. I also don’t have the equipment to do the pull ups so I did 100 dips/100 of the sit-ups. It took me about an hour and half but I did it!!!
Anyone who thinks these things are a joke should attempt the WOD Murph. It requires the following: 20lbs plate vest, 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and finish it off with a 1 mile run.
If you can do the above, even without a 20lbs plate, then you may complain about how they didn’t do some exercise right.

I remember doing a pull-up competition a few months ago. We had to do as many pull-ups as we can all the way up and all the way down. Most of them didn’t do the fish out the water pull-up like these guys but they definitely didn’t go all the way down. I ended up getting 16 doing all the way up and down but the winner got 23 and didn’t complete not even 1 pull-up smh ♂️

I have a complaint about the pull ups. Why are they swinging?
Lets talk about numbers. I’ve trained my body my whole life. I did the Murph vested. I weigh 250 at 6’4”. I finished at 74 minutes. Strict pull-ups. That last mile felt like death. I don’t give a shit what kind of pull-ups these guys did. They are absolute monsters. Much respect. Now they should hold an event with strict pull-ups. They would STILL blow most of us out of the water.

Let me correct that for you guys.
One mile sort of run with stops.
Not one single pull up.
Two hundred push ups which most of them can actually do.
Three hundred air squats.
One mile of actual running with no stops.
That’s Murph.
Same with the so called seven km trail run. Which was actually a seven km sort of run with a number of stopping and walking.
Have access to a park so doing:
With 24# body armor and gas mask and chipper style.
1 mile run
100 x strict ring pull-ups
200 x push-ups
300 x air squats
1 mile run
Not focusing on time, but embracing the pain and sacrifice

Also, I’m doing this workout on Memorial Day, but I’m gonna use a backpack because I don’t have body armor or a weight vest, but I recommend a weight vest because the weight is much better balanced instead of all on your back.

I dislocated my patella 5 days ago so I’m going to take advantage of the TRX unit I have and do a row/chest press/modified squat within my range of motion. I’ll also be walking (hobbling) a mile long walk with my dog. Yay for modified exercise and injury rehab.

As a Marine, I can say that these aren’t at all, in any way, shape, or form pull-ups, they were kipping the whole time, and if they were taking any type of PT test, they’d immediately be disqualified or told to start back at zero same thing with the PFT so as far as I’m concerned, they all lost. They’re all a bag of nasties. Now as you were, you’re back at zero.
I’m confused as to why everyone has such an issue with the pull-ups. Butterfly pull-ups are a gymnastic movement and if anyone knows anything about CrossFit they mix gymnastic movements with traditional exercises. I was a gymnast for years and the movement is typical and takes practice to master.
You have to do the push ups slow and the chin must be over the bar and your legs have to be straight…
More kipping pull-ups… Leave it to CrossFit to disgrace a military training exercise.

Great video Dan! I did it this morning! I figured out a way to make a cheaper tactical weight vest! I order a plate carrier for like 40ish buck on Amazon. Then I took two 10lb metal plates and put them where the ballistic plates go, one in the front and one in the back. For 40ish buck I made a 200 dollar weight vest. It preformed amazing this morning. Keep up the hard work and I really like you had some other big wigs in your video!

@WODprep, can you break up the pull ups, push-ups, and squats. Say do 20 pull ups, then 80 push-ups, then 100 squats? And after that, finish the remaining of the pull ups push-ups and squats? Or does each workout have to be done partitioned in the same exercise consecutively? Thanks

Runs with 10 kg weighted rucksack, pullups and pushups body weight, squats with 8kg medicine ball, 1/2/3 reps of each as a set times 100. Time 1hr 51 mins 35secs. Slow but at least I ground it out to the end.

The last time I did Murph it was still called body armor. I quit working out for almost two decades, got extremely fat, and was entirely too lazy. About six months ago I decided it was time to start changing that. I’m still fat, but 40 pounds less than I was. I’m still out of shape, but I’m capable of at least moving now. Laziness isn’t an issue. And to add I’m also somewhat sick, divirticulitis treatment managed to give me C Diff and I’m still on antibiotics for that. But I’m in a place where I can honor those that I served with and can’t enjoy this weekend, so I’m doing it. I won’t be wearing a vest, that simply too much for me right now. But I’ll be hitting the road at 7:30 in the morning to start the workout. I’m doing TRX rows for the pull-ups but other than that it’ll be as written. Goal is to run it again on Veteran’s Day with the vest and pull-ups.

I’m not sure how to modify MURPH this year… I’m thinking bent over rows at my body weight…
I knew Will from my time at 10th SFG. He was a good dude and a great shot. He was on a HALO team in a different company and as a diver, I broke his balls a lot when we would talk.

The guy who was in the lead after the”pull ups”..wtf those weren’t even valid kips (like kipping had any validity to begin with), then he starts busting out halfass push ups ffs, I had to skip to the end to check the c*** didn’t win, terrible!
Without firm rules there can be no play, ergo, crossfit isn’t a sport, just a whole lot of wasted sweat and toil (and substance abuse). I can see why people hate it.
Just completed this..admittedly used 30 lb dumbbells, will work my way up to 55
Ran 5 miles in 34 minutes. Tomorrow I’m going on a 12 mi ruck with 45lb ruck!!!
Now everyone saw that push-ups aren’t kipped and full lock at the top means FULL LOCK AT THE TOP. I love this workout. But when everyone is kipping their push-up to try to get sub whatever it gets annoying. Yes I know only I should be concerned with my workout and no one else’s. Ehh I just wanted to vent.

I tried this workout today. I had to lower the weight down to 45 and only finished 6 rounds before I was smoked.
Those pull-ups don’t seem right. They are supposed to be dead-hang to count as far as I know. More like swing-ups. No rep, Sir!:) But otherwise great spirit! Hooyah!

Everyone who have negative things to say more than likely haven’t done this workout. Have some pride and try it out. It will humble you.
As a side note, every CrossFit gym I’ve been in has quite a few workouts that work on strict pull-ups and strict muscle ups. The kip/butterfly movement is just for efficiency due to volume/time. These dudes could rep most people to death with any strict movement.

Did Murph Monday as well for the 2nd time ever doing it and did it in 41:30 all outside Az at 98 degrees. Wanted to die but kept telling myself there have been many more out there that have gone through much much worse. Love this video! This is what gives me motivation. Thanks @Dan Bailey

Really dig you me channel. I’ve been doing a lot of the hip work from that series… the 90-90s and Cossack Squats. I’m 54 been CrossFitting for about 9 yrs. Did Murph with 20 Cindy’s, no vest. 36:35, my best time. That last four weeks our gym via Zoom would do 5 Cindy’s after each WODwhich helped a lot I feel.

Did Murph this morning for first time! Wow what a gut check. I did 2, 4, 6 for 50 sets to meet the numbers. I suck at pull ups but I gutted it through. Took me just over an hour to finish. It was ugly but I finished!

Did Murph last sunday in Cindy style with a small modification. 1 mile run, 15 rounds of 5 broomstick pull-ups, 10 push-ups and 20 air squats followed by 5 rounds of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups and finished with 1 mile run. All with a 10 kilo weightvest. It was my first, enjoyed it and feel great to have done it

Did unweighted 1 mile run, 50 pull-ups, 100 push-ups and 150 squats in 10 rounds and finished with a 1mile run.
