Five of the Most Common Cycling Injuries and Their Treatment Knee Pain: Usually, knee pain experienced by cyclists stems from overusing the knees or exercising incorrectly. If your Achilles Tendonitis: Cyclists are at risk of developing Achilles tendonitis, which. The knee pain in a cyclist is mostly observed on the kneecap. Knee pain is yet another common cause of cycling pain and its possible causes include injuries, overuse, weak muscles and ligaments or degenerative changes. Overuse injury affects.
Most injuries occur as a result or riding at high speed. Superficial soft tissue injuries and musculoskeletal trauma are the most common ones. Head trauma is the cause foe the most serious problems and they are often the result of a collision.
The 5 Most Common Cycling Injuries. Lower Back Pain: Perhaps the most common cycling injury of all, lower back pain can be caused by a poor fitting bike and by not warming up sufficiently before heading out for a ride. While symptoms can generally be relieved with painkillers, prevention is always better than cure, and so warm up from head to.
There are varying degrees of Achilles injuries. The most common, and most benign, is Achilles tendonitis, which is simply inflammation of the tendon. However, more serious pain can be indicative of a partial or full tear of the Achilles tendon, although that is relatively rare among cyclists.Knee Pain: Some intrinsic knee problems like swelling, clicking, or popping should be immediately evaluated by a sports medicine specialist.
Cartilage irritation or deterioration, usually under the kneecap, can be caused by a biomechanical imbalance, improper saddle height, or.Listed are a few of the most common overuse injuries associated with cycling long distances. 1. Cervical and upper back pain. 2.Neck pain is common in indoor cyclists, particularly when using a bicycle that places the rider in the traditional forward flexed riding position (left images).
This problem is more likely to occur. There are two main types of cycling injuries: Those caused by falling off (acute injury), often resulting in fractures, contusions, abrasions and concussion. And more common are overuse injuries caused by the repetitive nature of cycling including overtrainin.Knee pain: It’s the most common type of overuse injury in cycling because often times cyclists don’t have their fit on the bike optimized. A saddle that is too low can place more pressure on the front of the knee (under the patella or knee cap) causing pain.
Cycling injuries are either overuse injuries which develop gradually over time because of repeated movement patterns or pressures, or acute, traumatic injuries due to a fall! Most common cycling injuries The most common gradual onset cycling injuries tend to be.Knee Pain The knee is the most common site for overuse injuries in cycling. Patellofemoral syndrome (cyclist’s knee), patella and quandriceps tendinitis, medial plica syndrome, and iliotibial band friction syndrome are a few of the more common knee overuse injuries.Similar to low back pain, neck pain from cycling is probably one of the most common overuse injuries that stems from poor posture and weak muscles.
Neck pain may result from abnormalities in the soft tissues—the muscles, ligaments, and.Impact injuries occur when a cyclist crashes. They are the most unexpected types of injuries, and when they occur, you should seek immediate medical attention. With impact injuries, you cannot predict the specific parts of the body that will be affected.
Sometimes the ones that are deemed safe can be badly affected. An improper bike setup and riding form can lead to tendons and ligaments becoming overstretched, pulled or tight. A common injury is patellar tendinitis, which is a chronic inflammation of the tendon that connects your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone.

Finally, a GCN video that is helpful for people who ride a fixed gear!
voy a intentar seguir sus consejos!! gracias!!! y si, yo me agarro al manillar como una pinza de perro!! lol
I was on my trainer this morning for a 2.5 hour ride. About 2:15 into the ride i suddenly began to get pain in the middle of my right longitudinal arch. I’ve never had any pain in my feet and was wondering might be the cause of something occurring all of the sudden.
I borrow my dirt bike riding skills for much of my mtb riding. As you said, do not grip too tightly to avoid arm pump, just as on a motorcycle. I always remember “weight the outside peg” or on a bicycle, the outside pedal. The more weight you can get on the outside of the bike during turns, the better traction you will get. Steeper the downhill, the more over the rear tire, just as on a dirt bike. I also tend to grab the seat with inner thighs/knees at times to stabilize the bike on gnarly terrain, as one would do on the whoops when riding a dirt bike. Great video, very useful info!
You guys have the best videos and you bring SO much value to mountain biking. Thank you!
I moved the cleats back a tad (like 1 maybe 2 mm), boy that feels different. Will have to go on a long ride to test if it helps. Thanks.
interesting points,if anyone else wants to learn about natural ways to cure sarcoidosis try Wiltapar Sarcoid Cure Secrets ( search on google )? Ive heard some decent things about it and my colleague got great results with it.
I had left toe numbness and tingling for about 4 months. I tried adjusting my basic bike fit to no avail. Before I decided to get an expensive custom bike fit, I choose to get cycling specific orthotic insoles. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! No more numbness. I went with Bontrager insoles after having my arches measured. Apparently, these insoles offer much more support and spread the pressure throughout the foot compared to the insoles that came with the shoe. Very good Transverse Arch support. No more hot spots.
Excellent video! I’ve been having problem with a bunion and I think you provided some common-sense solutions!
glucosamine 1000mil from your local health food shop if you suffer from knee pain its the best thing since sliced bread
Great video, I haven’t found shoes that don’t hurt, adjusting and testing over and over. This video gives me some ideas I haven’t look it to it. S-works 7 shoes…discomfort, pain after 30 miles is unbearable.
Which bike should I get a dirt jump bike or a full suspension bike
I’ve never even reflected on putting too much stress on my knees when riding my bicycle. Might have something to do with my doing it regularly lifting packages of brake discs for lorries and buses at work.
Can you do a video on nose manuals? Iv been practicing but just hasn’t been working outcan you help me? Just trying to get more skills on the bikes
“Cycling Stereotype” 5-6-10″ skinny, w= 28″….etc. Clothing in USA that would be a Large at 32-4″ waist is a XXL…etc. SUCKS!!! I will start a line of Clothier that will accommodate the “NORMAL” cycling marketplace in the USA!! FEurope!!! Just goes to show you how SOCIALIST they are!!! No new invention, new markets…etc. We are AL equal!!! NOT!!!!!
That is some crazy high cadence at the end. Eddy Merckx is that you?
i’ve heard from various sources that for cycling shoes, the toes should just barely touch the front of the shoe. There should be no room in between. Is that true?
Great video and information! Thanks for making this. Do you have any thoughts on feet that go kind of numb or tingly when biking? Hard to describe but almost like when your leg “falls asleep” type of sensation. I’m on flat pedals, shoes are not too tight.
Thanks in advance!
Dan: Where those the insoles you got when you were riding with the Cervelo Test Team? You missed the plug. Was that the Mistake of the Week?
on my mountain bike i have mounts for two cupholders, i see people use two cupholders with identical water bottles on road bikes. i was wondering if using both cupholders mounts with two water bottles on my mountain bike would be a good idea or if there was a reason not to
I’ve been suffering from a forefoot varus on my left foot for the longest time, very painful. It feels like there is a ball inside the shoe putting pressure on the outside of my foot. Even when I sit off the bike my foot likes resting on it’s side. Getting a bike fit this week to address the issue. Any recommendations on inserts or wedge brands?
Why do cyclists look so skinny? Think you guys should eat something and lift some weights for your arms!
Very informative video, I’ve been suffering with intense pain in my left foot for over a year, I’ve tried countless insoles and moving my cleats backwards with no luck. Before this video I wasn’t aware of the metatarsal arch and non of the insoles I have accommodate for this, so hopefully this is the answer to my pain.
Maybe do a video about how to not wreck the trail by skidding and riding with as little impact as possible?
Great advice here as usual. I’ve suffered with knee pain in the past and everything mentioned in this video should definitely be looked at. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t have all this information at the time though because this really sums it all up nicely in one place.
One thing to note about the float in the cleat though, is sometimes the less float the better for knee pain (depending what the cause is). For example, my knee was dropping in whilst riding Looks 4.5° cleats so I got used to riding the outside of them. As soon as I went to see an expert to get fitted I switched to Speedplay and use (roughly) 1.5° float now. It helped to stop my heels drifting out and pushing my knee in, as well as using custom insoles.
I (think I) have a forefoot varus at my right foot, causing pressure at the small toes after longer rides. I have had (right) knee complaints before and doing exercises has really helped for me. however, I feel something is off all the time on my bike. I know the difference because I used to bike a lot but had a period of inactivity after which these problems became apparent. My right leg is way more inflexible than my left one, and on the bike my knee tends to bend inwards. If i try to maintain the position alike the left side (normal) this can even be painful, especially when the heel is fully extended, also when i’m doing the bridge exercise, this can cause cramps in some tendon at the upper leg (the semiten?). Im a bit at loss at what i should do, forcing my foot to keep straight as well as the knee, doing stretches and so on, or make some change. I have tried to play with the pedal rotation, my cleats still allow me to rotate toes outward which makes my knee go inward (to the point of touching my bike), it DOES feel like i can transfer more power that way, but I don’t understand how it would be different, when my feet rotation when dangling of a table are the same for both feet, nor do i think that such knee inward bending is healthy. Ill try to wedge to plate a bit and see what happens.
Hello! For about a time I have alot of pain in my achillis heel while cycling. Do you know what the solution could be? It is only in my left feet. The right feet is good. I have changed my cleat position quitte a bit the last month because I had problems with my knee. This is now solved but my achillis still hurts quitte a bit. Could it be that the point of my feet are to far in or out? So something with my cleats position. Might speedplay be good pedals for me? Thanks in advance!:)
Hey GMBN I wanted to ask you if you could make a video of when your going down a trail which are the spots that are best to break to also avoid arm pump by braking the whole way down
Is it possible numbness in toes is caused by cleats too far back?
Spotted you guys sporting some snowboarding/ski goggles there at the end! Is this really a thing and is there a benefit vs sunglasses?
Thank you so much cycling is so much better without the pain!
Does this help with spondylolisthesis? I’ve been doing these stretches and exercise even before I watched the vid because I think it decompresses my spine
confused regarding that llast tip. during an aggressive turn motorcyclists keep their cycles as upright as possible by shifting their weight low to the inside of the turn to maximize contact patch, why would do you recommend the opposite (tilting bike and shifting weight against the turn)?
Do i have to drop both the ankles downward or just the one in front?? I started riding with flat pedals and i have the habbit of keeping the front heel down and the rear foot heal up. Is it a bad thing to do? Now i am using clipless pedals but have the same habbit.
Riding is a natural feeling, if your watching this stupid shit, u should not be on hard trails
check mobile mtb game
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Zigacu.DownHillBikeSimulatorMultiplayer
Re-watching this a few years laterI’m glad to see you’ve since bagged the fuzzy microphones.:-)
I had pain on one knee while standing gking uphills, 2 different bikes, same exact professional fitting. I switched to Q-Rings, no more pain for 5 years.
Can you do a “How to take a natural, while riding”?
Clearly for males only… but are bibshorts too constrictive? In longer races and sportive rides, should we avoid them to make the process easier?
Appreciate Video! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you tried Dinanlinson Rocky Position Approach (should be on google have a look)? It is a good one of a kind guide for learning how to fix chronic knee pain minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
Thanks for this info! Would love to hear about dealing with shoulder and neck pain caused by riding. I sit in front of a computer all day and suffer from chronic neck/shoulder stiffness. Long rides can magnify the stiffness and cause pain as well…
Great tips thats how i have my bike set up years of Trial And error
I run an 1hr in the morning keeps me balance have no back pain and its loosens my quadriceps
I am a running coach so i work onmy running form to strengthen my legs.
Bikes are made wrong the top tube should be longer on all bikes
Ck out pole bikes the future is here
Those high cadence out-takes really needed some Benny Hill music!!! Good tips so much common sense really but still overlooked by so many!
Hi Guys,
would you please explain how to install dual remote for fox suspension front and rear
I used to get knee pain alot thats until I had a cleat/shoe fitting. My feet were straight or parallel with the frame and after my fit they now slightly point outwards. Hever had knee problems since.
Recently, my left big toe started getting numb after just 5 miles of road bike with my new shoes, went back to the old shoes and same thing. I have no shoe discomfort with the new or old, but if get off the bike with both feet on the road the numbness goes way in about 1 minute, that will take about 5 more miles until it starts again, tried moving cleats and tried a different saddle but same issues. Any idea? Thank you
I’m stumped with my knee pain. I don’t cycle far (50 miles a week, only wish I could do more), I have been using flats, my saddle seemed ok to me but can’t be 100%, my bike is the right size, I never ever mash gears, yet I now need physio and it’s purely bike related! I have raised the saddle now as much as I dare,a furthur 2 cm up to 82 cm and also bought clipless (with 6 degree float), but dare not get back in the saddle to even test it out.
I was passed by a group of riders last week & one said your seats too low, I have since raised it by 40mm & MY GOD, no knee pain or severe saddle pressure, the bike now feels part of me & I can put far more power through the pedals, however 5mm more & it has an adverse effect, the height has to be just right, do NOT underestimate the importance this little tweak can make, I was very surprised, I feel far more in control & as one with the bike, it’s mind-blowing, you van tell i’m relatively new to cycling.
#askgmbn I’m looking at a beginner hardtail mtb I’m looking at the giant ATX 1 do you have any other suggestions? And also what backpack do you recommend (I would like one with a water bladder)
2:16 this clip shows locking up the brakes and rear wheel sliding try to avoid doing that, easy on the brakes. I am added this to make the message they are trying to tell more clear. So the thing about the glass not breaking, relates to the braking, if you squeeze hard the brakes will lock up, but the editing here might make it bit confusing. Hope this helps you.
just went on my first mountain bike trail, and wiped out, made a video. Thanks for the tips!!
Thank you so much Doctor! I basically did it all wrong and always rode with a heavy back pack!
I have now adjusted my bike and started on those exercises!
Thank you for all your help! I have been watching your videos for years and the thing that helped me the most is sliding the cleats all the way back, it took care of my toes curling and side foot pain.. You help so many people!
most peddles have ridges on the peddle I think that is what is hurting my foot, are there peddles without ridges.
Thanks for the recommendations. Moving the cleats back helped me a lot. I have ended up using the adapters from http://www.mid-foot-cycling.com which are super comfy for my Shimano SPD-SL’s on the road bike. I still struggle on my MTB though, so I wonder if anyone knows where to buy a similar solution for Shimano SM-SH51’s?
I get get knee pain as well as pins and needels in my fingers any way of fixing it
So impressed… the quality of content that this channel produces never ceases to amaze me.
Please…keep doing this forever! 😉
Was experiencing knee pain on mtb with 175mm cranks and 168mm q-factor but okay on road with 175mm cranks and 145mm q. Getting an mtb crankset with 175mm cranks and 156mm q-factor helped a bit but still in pain on longer rides. 170mm cranks with 156mm q was feeling unnatural. Ultimately, only getting 172.5mm cranks with 165mm q-factor helped.
There are few options for 172.5mm mtb cranks. Lucky enough to be riding Cannondale, the Hollowgram 2 crank arms can be used 172.5mm mtb or road. Most manufacturers go 170mm or 175mm only and the q-factor on MTBs is always wider due to tire clearance. Q-156mm crank sets by SRAM for top-end (XX, XX1) only and not working with all frames…
Thanks for this video and pointing out that knee pain needs to be taken serious as you might end up having serious cartilage damage grinding through your knee is not an option, I heard riding your bicycle with an artificial one is a lot less fun.
what if u cant at night and it hurts so bad that it fills like someone tolk a knife and stab u in the nee
Having the cleats in the back caused my to slide out of the saddle. With cleats up front I stay in the saddle and my average pace is higher. I have both cleats pointed towards my big toes.
Hello!! I’m a french fan of your chanel, I love moutain bike but have you got some advice for the cyclocross technic?
I’d like to have more suscribers, so I promise if I have 50 suscribers before february, I will make 1 video/month!!
Thanks to share your experience with us
I’ve had IT band pain recently but a foam roller is a good solution & treatment for such pains. I got a question that came on my mind today as I was riding uphill and out of the saddle, is it recommendable to change gears while riding out of the saddle? because I felt my chain were wearing out every time I did so.
I think a great advice is to start out on a lower end bike. I have no rear suspension, very little in the front and I actually started out on road tires. Because my bike doesn´t allow for any mistakes, I just HAD to learn it the right way. And I learned how to crash properly as well…
man I forgot to look up for a moment while riding and I hit a massive wall. the results were a couple of cuts and abrased arms >.<
How do you keep your new bike clean and how to lube up your chain
My bike is super fast and some moment i fell in my bike and get injured, it did not felt good on 1 week, and it still have a lot on pain on it, pray for me pls, ilysm guys:)
I actually feel that cycling helps with my knee pain caused by multiple prior injuries from before I was riding.
Wtf is a saddle? The seat? Do you used the crank to open the saddle to keep your cleats adjusted? Are cleats shoes? I’m lost
Every time I ride I tell myself to not grip to tight but I always end up going back to my old ways and as a result, I get very annoying “arm pump.” Is there any tricks/tips to help me train myself to not grip so tight
I went to my gp recently and was told that my knee cap was rubbing against my femur on my left leg and was wondering if anything on the bike could prevent that or have caused it, I don’t use clipless or anything and have only moved the bars up, any advice?
I’ve always had knee issues, since I was a child. I’m 6’2″ now, and I had less knee issues with 165mm cranks than the 175mm crankset I found in the garage. I’ve been riding on 165mm cranks for a half a year now, and I feel like what’s happening is an effect similar to moving the saddle up and forward to transfer the stress from the front of the leg to the back of the leg. You simply don’t have to kick forward as far with shorter cranks, alleviating some potential strain from the front of the joint. Just my 2cents.
All of my rides average 95-105 cadence. Even when I am not on youth gearing (52×16). So much more efficient.
Excellent Video! Apologies for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you thought about Mackorny Feet Ahead Blueprint (do a search on google)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for Relieving foot pain minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin at very last got astronomical results with it.
Why is Si always using Lasty’s bike??? That Tarmac with full campy must feel really left out:(
Love it! As a cyclist with an old back injury, this is very helpful.
What is the most common cause of low back pain due to cycling: 1:46
Bike fit and its effect on posture: 4:31
The stretches: 9:12
The strengthening exercises: 13:40
The quad exercises here also get the job done -> h12ttps:// http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBX8Iu8KJI
when u up your rpm, your gonna pay on your asshole the longer the rides get. I know as i was the strongest rider in a 200 mile hood to coast ride but my rpm compared to the larger dudes had my ass burning over 12 hrs do to the friction.
Tq so much Dr. Will try to tilt my saddle. Yesterday did 88km. After 50km,i had severe back pain and had stop several times and my friend had to massage my back. Hurts like hell lower back
I can’t get behind my saddle without put it down. I have a Canyon HT with an aggressive Riding position.
What can I do?
Do you provide custom shoe fitting with companies like Rocket 7?
Penis skin chafing and irritation is a big problem for cyclists too. But all you need is a top-notch moisturizer and you will be protected. I use one called Man1 Man Oil.. it is made just for the penis skin and contains lots of natural moisturizers like Vitamin E and shea butter. It works really well.
Also as far as cornering goes, you can maximize grip by dropping the outside foot and putting all your weight on that side
Two points to reduce pain that apply to other articulations and other sports as well:
1. post exercise stretching (good video on this channel)
2. exercise while fasting (cycle in the morning, before breakfast or search 16/8 and 5:2 fast for more information)
Couldnt stop looking at Simon’s jersey turning into a boob tube when he’s sat down.
1:28 neils phone almost fell down, sick!
thats the reason 2hy ikers should bring their super cheap non smart phone to the trails, long lasting battery, some come with a flash light, super good for survival, plus, they are super light weight and wont fail on you in case of a crash
Just wanted to say thanks. That video helped me a lot and for the first time in my MTB Carrier I was riding without any issues in my lower bracket. Cheers from Austria.
Thanks for making this video! I look forward to seeing more. I’ve been seeing my physical therapist for sciatica and it can be frustrating when they don’t have an understanding of the activities that I’m performing. I’m glad to see a physical therapist who is sending big gaps and clearing tables (and knows what that means!). Fortunately my PT is having me go through the McKenzie method, just like you.
How about just ride your damn bike and use common sense…. instead of holding peoples hands and telling them how to engage there knees and fingers lmao wow……
Hey Dan, I bet you were in the big ring when your legs were spinning… like a boss!
Guys, unfortunately i pulled my knee tendons on a cycle back in sept, and I’m still getting the odd pain any chance you could do maybe an aftercare video for people who’ve already got injured and how to stop it from happening again?!
i laughed insanely at the last part of video, watching u is fun guys
dear dan and simon,
i am curious about the scott vanish evo helmet. how is he? wich size do you guys wearing, do you wear M with big pads or S with small pads?
i find it really hard to find the right helmet. would it make sense with a head size of 57 cm to wear a S with smaller pads?
cheers
Like your videos as to get two people in sync means they do their homework!!! Keep it up
Nice one, Can you do a video on how to stop ear ache pain from my girlfriend when I decide to go for a ride at the weekend, instead of going into Leeds town centre shopping and spending silly amounts of money on lunch with her???? Cheers
Thanks for sharing this video idol…. here is my support..hope you visit me in my channel.. thank you god bless..
This awesome and true I’m on a fixed gear mtb with shocks but I still hit the speeds and maintain them longer everyday little by little I’m getting way better awesome. And no road tires
hey I am having pain on the ball of my foot and can’t move the cleat any farther back and if i put it forwards it putts to much pressure on my calves do you know what I should do
QUESTION: Does NOT shaving your legs during the winter count as an extra layer to keep your legs warm?
I tried all those tips but still would occasionally get a numb foot. I recently saw an osteopath, and he quickly noticed I had one leg shorter than the other.
Then it all made sense.
2:15 Has Simon been taking fashion advice from Simon Cowell?
Hey, you guys should sell GMBN knee pads and helmets. I would buy those.
One thing that is never mentioned is these “tech”-videos, is headangle… I am an ISIA-sertified skiing instructor and one thing that is stressed in that situation is head angle… Keeping the head as lateral as possible helps a
loton your balance…#askgmbnanything would you guys recommend hardtails to buy first or full suspension?
Great video Dr.J! I’m actually PT student myself and i’m interested in the article(s) you were referencing, is it possible to reference the titles? thanks!
Very interesting video. I’ve been having some rather severe 5th metatarsal pain after about 2-3hrs of riding. I do have custom insoles and this has been the last hurdle I’ve been trying to clear. Your comment about a metatarsal pad/button sounds like it might help as the site of the pain is very specific. I also find that cracking the 5th metatarsal alleviates the pain. I’m guessing because it puts it back into normal position which helps for a little while longer.
Be careful to not touch the rear tire when hanging off the back…especially with 29″ wheels.
Stalling the bike going off a drop will get you hurt. bad.
Thank you!! Would you say that this is also the cause of tailbone pain? I don’t really have pain in my spine… it’s for sure lower.
Hi, I was wondering if there’s any recommendation on knee and elbow protection for road bikes as I always see you guys without any, shouldn’t it be part of the protection gear?
Thank you
I have same back pain problem
I want to ride cycling,
Can i do it?
This and the one for neck pain were helpful. Maybe do one for lower back pain, or back pain in general.
Maybe get a guy who can actually ride. The two foot drop, he lands front wheel first. Umm, no. Teaching locking up rear wheel and skidding 30 feet. You should be ashamed! There’s even more.
Why multi stage MTB racers like in Absa Cape Epic and timed events Megavalanche wear lycra, and you guys wear baggy shorts?
Manufacturers really should stop making zero float cleats because the knee isn’t a pure hinge joint. The tibia has to rotate slightly throughout knee flexion and extension. As far as crank length goes, there are a lot of studies showing that there’s no correlation between height, leg length or inseam and optimal crank length. I developed a biomechanical test which can determine crank length accurately. All you have to do is evaluate your flexibility limitations at full hip flexion and hip extension. The optimal length is the distance of your feet between these two limits.
Great videos but Adam Brayton doesn’t do anything like you just mentioned
Woah, this was so well explained! By the way…you got white, nice teeth! just noticed xD.
A good vid, I came a cross knee pain after years of riding and found the float of SPDs wasn’t enough, I then moved on to Speedplay and started with massive amounts of float, I reduced this over months and it is all good now, not knee pain at all, since moving over to Speed play. Oh and their so easy to clip ‘on’ to, maybe Matt should look into them.
Another thing for you peeps who want to ride faster simply don’t use you’re brakes we’ll shoot they’ll only lose you the race
I just take the seat off, shove the seat post up my stink, and sit up straight with my arms crossed. Thanks
always numb after 30-45mins its ruining my days. Want to ride more but i just have no drive because feet are so numb
super condensed to most interesting information perfect job!!! thanks
Ask gmbn how many bikes do you have or do you get those bikes sent to you
you didn’t post the link to the bike fit video… you treacherous liars
any know any enduro bikes and brands they can recomend that is worth around the 2k mark
Please emphasise how to balance on corners, I see too many cornering on flat by leaning with bike. Take lesson from Fabien https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF5K9V2w6W8
saying about insoles. is that all kind of sport(other than cycling)’s insoles are usable for cycling?. or there is any specialist insoles for cycling?.or maybe any recommendation for cycling insoles? sport other than cycling example for running, futsal, badminton, ultimate frisbee.. Thanks
Ive seen so many videos of these guys taking fast corners by leaning the bike and keeping the body vertical wtf is up with that?
This is great can you do another video on mountain bike fit ergonomics to prevent rounding? I feel like there are limited quality information like this available
Thanks for the video lads! Great information there! Also, will gaining abit of muscle on the quads protect the knee? Regards
I’m a big guy 200 lb and 186 cm height. Am I still able to do most of MTB skills or should I focus on getting some wheight off. Doctor said in my case 20lb off will get me to my normal weight
These 2 guy’s have no place to give anybody advice look at the state of them skinny runts never been on a bike for more than
5 minutes at a time. No muscle definition in there legs. They would be more convincing knitting socks.
Just adverts on there lycra what a embarrassment for cycling.
u lads are the business. Drop a line if ur ever coming to oz
Well, i have to admit that i find this video among the 5 more useful from the GCN series
Guess I need to go back to floating cleats. My right knees been feeling funky since putting on some fixed cleats. Doesn’t hurt…just not right. Took a couple months of riding to manifest, but I never noticed any issues with floating cleats, so I will be moving back to those and seeing how it goes. Thanks for the video. Great job as always!
Hey I’m a fairly new channel would be great if you could check me out
What if i have pain so bad i can sit or move for 2 to 3 days?? No. Leg pain though….
I recently sized up from a large 2016 Salsa Horsethief to an XL 2019 Pivot Switchblade. I am 6’1″. At first all was well. I loved the extra reach and the stability of the longer wheelbase when I hit downhill and rode out of the saddle on the Pivot (the older smaller bike felt scrunched while descending). BUT… on my first few long XC rides on the “lower, longer, slacker” Pivot Switchblade… I got a very sore lower to upper back, neck pain, and my hands go completely numb after about 30 mins. Last night after watching this video I tilted my saddle forward 10 degrees and I raised my bars an inch. I am hopeful to ride again today to see what the results are. Glad to find a channel where someone like you in the medical community participates in this sport and can consider what happens to a person’s body in this context.
I actually ride like this as a road cyclist. Maybe I’m doing the wrong sport
this is actually the reason why I don’t ride road bikes because I have this problem as well I guess I’m just not comfortable of its geometry and I’m more comfortable riding my budget hardtail bike with jones bar
I always find when I’m going over tech, that I let my hands loose, and I absorb bumps better
Neil’s bike is the most beautiful bike i’ve ever seen.. Black and Orange is always perfect combination..
Hello there love your video. But I really need your help. I have a problem where I get pains on the outer side of the foot at the 5 menopausal. I have my cleats fitted as best as possible which has lessen the amount of pain I had. Now the prob is finding a spacer for my shoe that can raise the shoe to put equal pressure. Could you recommend a spacer for shimano spd sl cleats and a video of how to use them effectively. Thanks
Cheers!
Can you do a video on the best bike computers sub 100 pounds?
I don’t think any normal person could crush glass just with their hands tho…
can I install sespention in back in the mtb fire fox sniper v and which sespention. I am from india.
Personally with my road single speed bike I use flat pedals which allow me to move sometimes my foot and no problems anymore since I swap from spd to flat pedals
0:43 Slight bend in Knee
1:07 Should be pretty much straight and locked out
So which is it? Slightly bent or pretty much straight?!
is there any equipment to protect your balls where can i buy it
PEACE
TERRIBLE idea represented in #3 Foot Position. Having your achilles stretched out like that is a horrible idea one good rock bump and you’ll snap your achilles tendon. Please don’t ride like this.
Hi I have a fracture clavicle from cycling. I have problem with sleeping. Any suggestion
You forgot one: Cold temperature can cause knee pain, at least that is my experience. I need to have warm legs. In wintertime I‘m wearing a baselayer, kneewarmers and a good thick bibtight to prevent knee pain.
is itva requirement tovsit on your seat in race? I can ride a bike with out a seat.
Love the analogy….works too!…got practice on both angles.
Can someone remind Simon that washing machines shrink your clothes! I think he ordered 5 sizes to small:P
I disagree with yout foot angle tip because of security reason: if you get a hard hit with yout foot in “endposition” yout ankle will break much earlier than in “neutral position”. sorry for my bad english
i get knee pain when i use high gear and trying to sprint, is that ok? i stop immediately and switch to lower gear, should i try to sprint further and see if my knees can handle that?
i rip ass with my 180$ mountain bike.. no homo cycle science required
If i actually tried focusing on all these things during a ride, id probably crash! ha ha.. Great video guys, keep up the great work!
can ya’ll do a video on when is a proper time to use a dropper post? And something along the lines of when you’re using it too much?
High cadence always kills my ass while on the bike. Any suggestions?
Simon sitting there on the wall talking about float in what appears to be a belly top, thank god for high bib shorts…
It would be great to see a video like this, but with the seat in a normal pedaling position. Not everyone, myself included, uses a dropper seat post and some body position tips would be invaluable.
High cadence hurts my knees more that a lower one any idea why?
Enjoy the info but the further word kills me. The word is farther no further.
I run Speedplay Zero pedals on all my bikes. They might not be for everyone due to the ‘floating on ice’ feeling. But i have not had a single problem with my knees since i swapped from Look Keos. I love how they don’t center and force your feet to a certain position. The cleats are a bit expensive but if you get Keep-On-Covers they last much longer and also add some traction when walking. If you have issues with your knees i really recommend them. Sorry for sounding like a fanboy but they’re great.
#askgmbn When I do a longer descent, my back leg will get more sore faster than my front leg. Is this normal? Am I leaning back too far? What can I do to fix this?
What shoes is Donny wearing in the vid?
Top work on the vids by the way guys, I check in most days and never disappointed.
0:44 if you’re not old enough to have a glass of beer would a glass of cola work just as well?
Elbows up when cornering is helping to have grip on the front tire
Great video. Thanks for sharing this info.! Where, in KY, are you located?

At about 1.50 Si appears to be sporting the new GCN Belly-Top will this be available for purchase?
An old video but those is exactly what I was looking for. My wrists have started playing up at work when I move them into slightly awkward positions. I’ve been cycling a lot more this past year so I thought there must be a connection. I can’t do either of the positions you showed so I definitely have work to do.
