This may have already been mentioned, but if you add vinegar to the water with the bones, you’ll get a whole lot more of the nutrients out of the bones.
I make bone broth on a regular basis, especially from grass fed beef and chicken, and I add several ounces of apple cider vinegar to the water, which as you said adds flavor, as well as leaching nutrients from the bones.
You can also use wine or rice vinegar, or even white vinegar in a pinch, but I prefer the taste of apple cider vinegar in bone broth, and it works well with the herbs and spices I typically use.
I wonder why they don’t recommend thickner’s. Because when you buy a can of roast beef its gravy’d.

Question for canners out there the dry canning method in an oven if you don’t have an oven or more worried about the glass breaking and wasting food can you do a low water bath/steam bath so you can still bring up the temperature of the contents and the jar to seal would this be another option without putting moisture into the dry rice and beans exedra

You can freeze your onions, that you have cut up lay on metal cookie sheet in single layer. Cover the cookie sheet with plastic tightly. Once frozen place in gallon freezer bag and lay flat in freezer.

I don’t use a thickened or dairy in my chick-n-dumplings but the dumplings naturally kind of thicken it bc of the flour in them, so would I be able to can it my way or no? I come from a family of scanners but they just water bath canned veggies n stuff, but I want to learn how to make and can whole meals. I saw a woman on doomsday peppers one time who called herself the gourmet canned or something like that and I think she would just make regular meals/side dishes and then can them and that’s what I came on here to find….BUT… I haven’t found her yet bc you came up in a search and I first watched your beginner canning how too video…and I was hooked… I have now, in just a few days, watched a ton of your videos!!! Started canning two years ago, mainly because it provided an alternative to freezing deer meat. Canned deer meat had a “dollar store meat” sound to it, but it is do good tender, tender! Add some of my wife’s vinegar based BBQ aside and it’s good stuff! Thanks for the content!

Do potatoes that have been canned not become mush when added to soup and canned again?
Who else thinks the sale of canners will go through the roof after this bug we have going around and our governments response to it?
Can’t you just dilute for example a can of beef and vegetables by shaking it then opening it and pouring half the liquid soup out and toping it back up with water and then heating it. since most low sodium cans don’t have that much flavor anyway and usually only have 1 serving and they usually have half the sodium of regular. Almost makes me believe they do that same process and then sell you a regular can and a low sodium can by just doing the water thing.

Since I’m a newbie canner, it seems to me you are canning the potatoes and carrots twice. Won’t that make them mushy when you can them again for the processing time. Also, why cook the soup for an hour since everything was already done or hydrated (crock pot cooked ham bone, then added previously canned potatoes/carrots then processed again). Just wondering. I’m sorry fo the silly question. I’m just new to canning. Thanks.

This was an interesting video to watch. I’ve never seen this device use to “can” food (we call it bottling where I’m from!). My mother always just used a large stock pot, and never used any cooking time charts. She always just waited to hear a ‘pop’ and knew her bottles were done.
