anyone know of an app that helps the music change to your cadence? i used to use trailmix pro but it doesn’t seem to work with apple music
Run keep had “figure skating” listed. Figure skating is 80% falling. What moron is taking their phone with them while skating? Most rinks ban the use of phones while skating anyway, so who needs that feature?
Can you make an updated 2020 follow up video? It’s been 5 years. Apps change so much in that time!
I love run keeper. I use it in order set my customized workout. I was going to get a fitness watch. I wanted to know which if any watch would let me use the app so I don’t have to carry my phone. I know a few phones will play music so is this even possible?
It’s annoying as I’m a fast walker but to compete against people or getting it on my record without having to add it up I have to map my walks as runs
Love mapmyrun and I’ve been considering on the 29.99 year subscription. Thank you for insight and I like that when I have my data off on my phone it still tracks my run. Any usage from the Apple Watch?
would love to see a 2020 video like this, im using google fit right now but not sure if i should change to somthing eles or not
I’m 42 years old and I’ve been running for 8 years now and I do 10 yards a day for 7 days straight and I don’t take any breaks just making the grind
After watching your video I decided to upgrade my free Runtastic app to your chosen option the “pro” at a one time payment of $5 but the app does not offer anything but a rolling option on a Premium* membership at either £1.86 a week for a month or £0.87 a week for a 12 month subscription.A helluva difference! I’ll look at other options a lot more carefully and will delete the greedy bastard app from my device.
I am looking for an app that tells me when to stop, I mean if I want to do 40 minutes it tells me when I am done. Any recommendations?
Thank you for this! Currently choosing between Nike and Runkeeper…. I like them both. However, now I have a forerunner which made me get a garmin connect account. question is….why not just use garmin connect?
I have been using Nike Plus, or NRC as it is caled nowadays since 2013 and it is getting worse every day. Aside from not syncing runs repeatedly I almost uninstalled this app when they unattached my run history from my Nike Plus account without asking me to download my run history. Whereas I could log in on my pc and see my run history I can NOW only access it by using the app on my smartphone and it simply does NOT recall my entire run history. The app also frequently changed functionality like the way to pause or end a run which is very annoying once you get used to a certain procedure. Their online support is non existent nowadays. I remember getting replies to online questions you can now only call them. I am not going to waste international call fees on a customer service that has sofar never helped me out before.
To any considering user, take my advice and skip this one. There are other apps that funcion much much better. Simply google for reviews and comparisons and you’ll find at least 2 or 3 that have average good reviews.
Nike, you suck and I should have uninstalled this app years before.
which app is best at giving you 1/4 mile data (pace, time etc..)? thanks if anyone has info. I have been using endomondo for years but does not offer 1/4 mile data. By the way I have to test 1.5 miles a couple of times a year so tracking my 1/4 miles is what I really need. Great review though thanks!
I would like an app where I am mostly left alone. No social media. Just tell me how far and sometimes when I ask, how fast. I want to listen to my audio book or guide my dog and forget about the app.
I’ve been using run keeper for the last year and I like it so far. I’m happy with the features and how it’s easy to use, but I’ve not tried these other apps. I might find I like the others ones more, so I’ll definitely give the top three a test! Run keeper recently emailed me my 2017 year in review and I liked being able to look back at how many kilometres I had run or how many calories I had burnt! I hope the other apps keep me up to speed with my progress.
I really like your videos, thank you for making them and sharing!
I think Nike Running was a tad short handed in the video. The big sell is the free training programs and the feee guided runs. Also its simplicity is a big point. I really like the method it lays out the history giving the average pace for the month. I track this closely while progressing through a program.
what is the best app for tracking walk and run, im basically want to use with polar loop and a h7 and even moov now.
Try Samsung Health It’s way more accurate than Apple Health.
I hate GPS’S because it says I run a mile in 7:42 but when I do a times run on a track timed by my recruiter I run it in 6:36 (extremely happy with that, used to be 8:50).
The only issue I see with this method is that the distance you obtain by scaling off such a small-scale map can be quite innacurate, particularly if the ground slopes considerably. These days it’d be a lot better to use a GPS GIS like Google Earth, Etc. to measure the distance before pacing it.
1:40 no details man… everything was zero… so how’s this helpful??
I have been running for 4 days (I’m 14 y/o) and I did run 5.5 km today:)
IMPE runkeeper is the best of the three, (Nike, Runtastic and Runkeeper)
I have used all three for over 6 months and finally decided to stick with Runkeeper
Runtastic overshoots the distance and is often inaccurate, Nike is too minimalist. My winner is Runkeeper.
Very useful video thank you. Any chance of repeating the experiment with the Apple Watch please?
Is this outdated now? I can’t see the measure distance option.
Nike running app was off by a whole lap to complete a 4 miles
i used this app for android, and i think it’s the best one ever: http://www.mediafire.com/file/xzy3838nwwxjl8z/Pedometer_app.apk
Let me introduce a live Race+Running app
Its free

Please don’t make it bitesized. More information is better than too little!
Kya bhai bakwas aap hai. Facebook se login karta hun to. user not found. dikhata hai, aur Gmail se login Karta Hun Tu user not found dikhata hai
Just became a subscriber, very nice information. But I wonder, these are still your favorites apps or have you chanced your opinion? Thanks.
Strava is trash after the new upstate. I can’t keep track of my progress unless I pay up €60 a year. It would’ve looked for a different app if I knew they’d do this.
You should try to do research on Samsung health app If you haven’t. I think It’ll make a huge difference compared to the iPhone. I’ve had both android & iOS phones.
No technique worked for me in the heavy bush of Georgia. Slowed down too much from crawling, hacking, sneaking, cursing through that serious undergrowth.:P
Myzone heart monitor is not a device that can be paired to application. What a bummer
Strava + Garmin vivofit 3 + wahoo tickr x on oneplus 3 = this combination is working great for me
Strava pulls gps info from phone, heart rate from wahoo tickr x
tickr x sends heart rate data to vivofit 3 which is synced to garmin connect which sends data to strava
tickr x is also directly sending data to strava app.
i get analysis in app as well as on website which is exactly what i wanted.
using strava on oneplus 3 with android oreo and doze switched off in developer settings for gps to work.
throw in a bluetooth headphone and fire some music on any music app.
where can i find an app where i can set a goal where i can like set a timeline and a distance
I have used Strava, Runtastic and MapMyRun. For me, MapMyRun comes out on top due to the fact that you get voice feedback every Km/Mile that you run, keeping you on track with your speed and progress. I think the Runtastic and Strava app only offers voice feedback until 2km then it stops which means you have to keep looking down at your phone every few minutes to check how you are progressing. I haven’t used Strava or Runtastic for about 12 months now though so I can’t tell you what updates they have had sine then. Sorry for the essay, just my opinion.
I was getting a bit overwhelmed with all the different apps out there, I truly didn’t know where to begin! This review really helped
I just bought a Polar H7, does it worth it to download Polar Beat or should I try Runtastic?
Thanks for this! I’m trying to find a good running app for my next 30 Day Challenge!
omg my legs hurt i walked 18k steps today no i am not joking 11,8 kilometer
Hi! I make app reviews on my Channel
Do check it out! And Support me!
Did anybody else realize he exposed his own address in this video?
Hi, thanks for watching this video. I am planning many more videos covering everything to do with making you a better, fitter and faster runner but I need your help. I need 1000 subscribers in order to monetise my channel. When I achieve this I will be in a position to invest back into my channel and take it up a level, so what would be a small gesture from you would be huge help to me. Many thanks for your support.
been using runtastic pro. Deffinitly buy the 5dollar version, cause free it’s bloated with ads and very limited. So far i’m very happy with it.
An exceptionally detailed, yet simplified block of instruction.
what about zombie run…. is that any good since it’s popular in the play store
Hey Riz! Missing your reviews on best fitness apps! Is it too much of a favor if you can update your review on this upload for the year 2019? Thanks and love your huslin! God bless from the !
been using Runtastic pro. Never had to look for other options. plus i love its story running feature.
Hey Jeff do HR monitors built in devices with Andorid Wear such as the Moto 360 Sport feed any of this applications with BPM live data when running? I would certainly appreciate your input here, thanks!
I’m an ambassador for Skyfit! I just love the motivation and explosive energy put into every on demand workout:) I have some codes to share with anyone wanting to try Skyfit for one month, completely FREE!
comment to get your code!
I would like a app where someone is talking to me/ guiding me. Motivated me.
have you tested wikiloc.com… if do not… try it
I use wikiloc to record my running, walking and cycling events and after done I export to strava!
It’s time for a 2019 update on this. The Apple Watch is getting increasingly popular and I would love to get your take on Run Keeper, Ismoothrun, Map my Run, and others
So, I’ve probably gotten more exercise than my iphone registered! That’s a good thing!!
I’m looking for social features like challenges and competing with others. Any suggestions?
Is there an app that analysis report that track distance by 100m-400m. At the moment I see a lot of apps that track by.5mi at the minimum
Everything is ok but KM/miles is not showing automatically when we are stop activity then we have to feed manually its very pathetic.
Used to like Runkeeper but it went batshit crazy after last few updates. Haywire GPS battery drain, missed audio queues, not recorded runs, android wear sync issues…
Thanks for the video. Do you perhaps know which of these apps allow you to create your own routes but also show your best times per route (that you created)? I was using Endomondo but they tanked the best times feature for some reason (they ignore the question when pressed). I can’t understand why one would remove such a key feature. Tx.
How to measure from point to point tho Einstein? Point of 2 other locations besides your own
Hello Lyle,
What a great series of videos you make for a simple guy like me, interested in navigation. However I have a question. In this video you established your pace count on a hard and level surface road, but what if you walk uphill or downhill or on soft surfaces like snow and mud? How do you adjust your pace count for that?
Greetings Evert
I need to know an app for tracking your walks, and I don’t understand the language but I saw runkeeper. TY <3
I use runtastic because you can synch it too Facebook and I ran about 525 miles total from 2015
For me personally RunKeeper is what I use. Strava is strangely inaccurate with its pace, distance and gps tracking from my personal experiences
Which has the best gps accuracy? Strava cannot seem to use a 400m track or say, a 200m segment time with any accuracy. It goes haywire.
I’m also using runtastic after going trough many applications. Also purchased the pro version. Which is awesome in many ways.
I needed to know this for the Search and Rescue in Civil Air Patrol. Thank you.
Nike + running turned into Nike Run Club and the app is absolutely terrible now. I’ve been using that app since fall 2011 and is jumping ship to Strava in under 100 miles after I smash my mileage total from last year. Screw you Nike.
If you found the video helpful, leave a like. Thanks for watching!!!!
In my opinion, I think RunKeeper is the best running app out there, GPS is accurate and it’s very convenient:)
Thank you veryyy much. Amazing technique, wonder why no one told use we should use this on our D of E expeditions:)
Check out Fit for Battle, a fun RPG running game, a bit like runtastic’s story running, but all the events in the game pivot the story, like an immersive choose-your-own adventure.
Thanks a lot for this video. I use Runkeeper but I’m going to try Map my run.
5:20 I thought I was really out of shape and that’s why I got upwards of 170 BPM but this dude gets it too wow
How about an app that you could set a known distance and just go? Run untill your distance is complete, then check the time.
Anyone please know any free apps that tell you where to run? I want to start running early in the moring but I won’t know where to run?
This is the kind of research everyone should want to fund helps everyone without expectation of profit clearly a group of dedicated professionals
They all require iOS 8 or above is there one for iOS 7 because I have an iPhone 4
do you need to have your phone with you and a watch when running Map my run?
I really liked Zombies Run. It’s only for runners and keeps me motivated. i wanna know the story. and I pick up objects as I run and can use those objetcs to upgrade my base when I’m done running. Lots of features like going to a spot on a map and then going back. They have become greedy. You used to pay like 5$ for it and now it’s 20$ a year. for an app…that s a lot. but if money isn t an issue for you, I highly recommend it
I love RunKeeper because it is the only app that allows me to edit my map. I can’t do that in Garmin Connect on Strava. I can edit the time, pace, etc., but I can’t edit the map. I often will forget to start or more often stop my watch after a race. I’ll drive home and end up with a 40 mile run at a 3:00/pace. That is impossible. In Runkeeper, I can edit out the drive home. Correct the map and get my actual time and pace. Not only that, they allow me to change shoes more easily than other apps. Strava and Garmin, think I’m going to continually run in the same shoes. I do not. i have over 25 pairs of active running shoes and my bare feet! It is rare that I run in the same shoes more than once a day. I can more easily switch between shoes in RunKeeper. I also get my Garmin data to go right into RunKeeper. I do use others as well. I will definitely check Runtastic.
My Nike running app can’t sync my latest run. Is there a way to fix it?
Enjoyed the video! I was wondering can I listen to music or podcasts while using Strava?
What’s the best for interval running where i can set the intervals and get notified when to start and stop the next interval? Whilst also tracking distance and pace.
I need one that tracks treadmill runs as well as outdoors, because I do both..I was using the Nike app, but with recent updates it sucks and so many features do not even work properly.
By walking and running u can find ur distance in acre. Is there apps like this type??
do you have to hold the phone or can you put it in a pocket?
Which app is the best to track your top speed for sprinting?
I’m in America. So if you’re saying that 300 paces is about 500m, that means 1000 paces is about 1,666m, which is 1.03 miles. So 1000 paces is damn near exactly a mile. Miles are better. It’s based on a natural human pace. America wins. And you’re a slightly bigger guy, so an average guy would hit a mile on the dot at 1000 paces.
runtastic sucks today, the free mode was perfect for running
Kya Aaisa bhi koi app hai jo ki bole ki isko call Karo our call lag h
