Oh I know that sound all too well. We have a truck that operates in my neighborhood in Upper Manhattan at all times of the day, even in the dead of winter. Something tells me they’re selling more than just Ice Cream.
Acerola:), i grew up in Haiti and i can tell you when they are ripe, they are sweet. I used to eat them right off the tree, great memories.
I have one of these in the garden. It’s fruiting, but none of them are ripe yet. I can’t wait to try them!
Your research is terrible and your misguiding others. Usually I agree with your videos but this is all wrong. Look into Dr. Thomas Levy and Suzanne Humphries research before you make ignorant claims like these. Doing my own research and actually testing, ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbate (and especially liposomal vitamin c) are far superior to any plant based powder. You feel the difference in minutes. So many things I’ve used it for on myself and several others. Remake this bro. And if you don’t believe me, look into the research of Robert Cathcart who was using high doses of synthetic vitamin c to cure even polio. You have no right to misdirect others like this so do the research. Suzanne Humphries has spoken and shed the light on the oxilate issues and its nothing to worry about. The only reason I’m mad is because I’ve seen this used in life threatening situations and you downplaying it may be what stops someone from using it when it in fact may be what saves them.
have you ever tried cherry ballart? have you ever tried illawarra plum pine? have” ” ” bunya nuts? if you come to Australia, let me know.
Ascorbic Acid is only A part of C Vitamin ( buying Ascorbic Acid C Vitamin Is made from 2 different Chemicals ).. Ascorbic Acid Is the protective layer surrounding the, maybe most important parts off C Vitamin. Only found in Natural Products. It is proven if taken the Chemical Version you will / might dilute the C Vitamin you are already ingesting.
I watched a documentary on this fruit and the green ones actually have more vitamin C
I can only find acerelo as ascorbic acid! What about camu camu?
The Maltodextrin is very dependant On Concentration and just what your using it for Examples are you using it as a Sweetener then no it is Not a good option if your superheating it and it is from non GMO source then it is just a drying base my Acerola C came in at 31.56% we used maltodextrin and it only has 1 Calorie in 13 doses but again we just needed a Super Dry base to hold the juice not a sweetener, you can tell if you taste mine it does not have but cherry flavor not sweet / but in kool aid / soft drinks / energy drinks it can pack a lot of calories again dependant on what your using it for and how many calories you want or don’t want in it / Check Calories as one for example had 500 mg of Acerola per Teaspoon the rest was sugar/ maltodextrin high calorie / mine is 1,500 mg per teaspoon and you would have to take 3 1/2 teaspoons to get 1 calore ///
Lemon has 51mg vitamin C/100gr
Peppers have 128mg/100gr, but you need fat/oil to make it valuable to the body
Acerola JUICE has 1000 to 1500mg/100gr,
so you are probably right with the 15x in the subtitle, Jared
And different to artificial vitamin C/ascorbic acid, that causes diarrhea when overdosed,
I bet you hardly or much less get any of these problems, as the body absorbs it slower than the unnatural stuff
You should just have ice cream truck music as the background in all your videos!
The juice is very delicious. And a good anti inflammatory due to the high vitamin C.
People make such a big deal about lemon’s vitamin C content, but what you’re tasting is citric acid, but even strawberries have more vitamin C than lemons, and LESS sugar, believe it or not
I’m really glad youtube is starting to re-recommend your videos again. Almost forgot about this channel. The feel and aesthetic of each video is just this perfect mix of intrigue and calm. Great way to relax and learn a little!
Used to have a tree of this at my old house, it fruited practically all of the time and was gorgeous. I miss it but it’s nice to know that the house flippers didn’t remove it (like they did with the soursop and atemoya)
Have you ever tried barberry fruit (they are also called Berberis)? I never managed to find any at my local grocery shop.
Would like to see a video on that.
Third highest in vitamin C (1700 mg) after Camu Camu (almost 3000mg) and Kakadu Plum (up to 5000 mg)
For reference, an orange has 50 mg of vitamin C per 3.5 oz.
Camu Camu’s edibility is not great, as its acidity is very high, the fruit is usually made into jelly or in dishes.
Kakadu plums are eaten raw.
Ascorbic acid isn’t super acidic, it’s no malic or fumaric acid, fruits high in vitamin C aren’t always acidic, much like bell pepper (80 mg).
Since Vitamin C is structurally related to glucose, they both compete for GPCR and GLP receptors, transporters and enzymes in the body.
This means that they interfere with each other’s absorption. Vitamin C can lower blood sugar by binding to receptors and blocking off glucose, however glucose (metabolized from fructose from fruit) can also interfere with vitamin C absorption.
Too much vitamin C too quickly will end up being excreted as waste. I hear that too much also forms oxalic acid which is not great for the kidneys.
I’ve been growing them for about almost 3 years now. It’s true that it has amazing doze of Vitamins C but honestly not a fan of its flavor I will always prefer the Surinam Cherry.
I believe they use these berries to add a sweet-savory flavor to some beef jerkies
Hey bro, just thought theres more fruits over in Australia Kakadu Plum, Illawara Plum, Muntries, Planchonella Australis, Diplogottis Campbelli, Diplogottis Australis, Midyim Berries
Demonetized that music has been copy right claimed by a random Chinese company jk
Unfortunately it’s impossible to ship a ripe one as they’ll be all mushy in a matter of hours. The under-ripe ones will look like the ripe ones after a few days, but my experience is that they don’t taste the same.
They go from green to glossy red (a lot of people pick them then thinking they are ripe as they look like cherries) then they turn matte purple. That’s when they are ripe and picked off the tree they taste totally different from previous stages. Very low tartness, sweet, a fruit punch like flavour reminiscent of a combination of tropical fruit and even the aroma of passionfruits!
Trees fruits all year long except in winter in a Mediterranean climat.
Dr. Thompson was reported as saying that freeze drying of fruits was not good for the vitamin C content. Not sure, but he was saying something to the effect that it destabilized or denatured the vitamin C. Does anybody know anything about this?
Those unripe or almost ripe ones you can dip into salt with crushed chilly pepper for a different taste sensation.
Hahaha the Ice Cream truck. when you say star fruit are you talking about averrhoa carambola?
so this is the acerola? it’s a name that gets used in manga/anime occasionally, like Acerola from Pokemon Sun & Moon, and Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade from the Monogatari series. I didn’t expect it to be such an innocuous little fruit lol
I think they have an almost cough drop or turpentiney flavor…
What was the sourness of the green one? It sounded tasty but I’m not a big sour fan like you are!
Thank you for saying it tastes like starfruit! I always got apple flavor, and when very ripe maybe a more fruit punch flavor. But yes absolutely they taste like starfruit. Greetings from South Florida
We have them growing all over down here in south Florida.
Not sure how you could eat the green one. To me, the unripened ones even the not completely ripened ones, are so bitter and sour that I just can’t, and I like lemons and limes lol.
I haven’t tried to make any jam out of them yet, but have heard it’s good especially since they are supposed to be high in pectin as well.
Know anyone who has made jam from them?
If you want vitamin C, try a Kakadu Plum. Has the highest recorded natural level in any food. Good old Australia.
Barbados cherry taste good i do like the green ones as well!
I’ve got a tree and the birds love the very ripe fruit. So having the unripe fruit is actually a way to actually eat them before the birds
Weird Explorer for sure you didn’t taste camu camu superfruit
Dissapointed with your research in this video. Increased urinary oxalate does not translate into a higher kidney stone risk because AA (or its metabolic byproduct DHAA, can’t remember properly) prevents calcium from binding with oxalates. Suzanne Humphries explains it better than me in her presentation.
Cheers superfoodevolution! So, i looked at that work with joy:) Keep it up, Superfoodevolution! Left a thumb from me and subbed you too! You might join my https://www.instagram.com/sweetgirlsmoon#Ella.A00kU Cheers 😉
You really are the fruit king. Respect brother.
Videos are 10/10.
If you ever come to Denmark (or other places in northern Eurasia), you should try sea-buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides)! Often used for cooking. Supposedly has the highest amount of vitamin-c/g of any fruit!
selected varieties aren’t suppposed to be that sour no more than 3 I do say and quite sweet
Love these grow them in my apartment in Iceland. I find the flavour to be like a tastier version of carambola / starfruit. A taste sort of like fruit-perfume; I don’t really get cranberry or cherry (although I could see a bit of a pomegranate flavour). As for the plant, water-after-drought and pruning both help trigger flowering. The leaves have irritating hairs not heavily irritating (the occasional brushing against them isn’t a problem), but if you’re really up in those branches pruning them, you’ll leave feeling itchy. I get them to fruit with just one plant, but the seeds have never sprouted, so I think you might need cross-pollination for the seeds to be viable.
We are going to Barbados for Spring Break. Anything we should look for/do?
I love those. We had a tree behind our house when I was a kid and I would eat them when I went out to play.
We call those cherries in Trinidad,as a child I used to spend a lot of time just hanging around and in the tree, the variety you have is more common than what I had,it was purple and sweet,West Indian cherries bear fruit year round and they also make the best juice.
I found a new fruit but I can’t recognize it, would you help me?
White pine, spruce, fir, douglas fir, larch, and hemlock needles are a very good source of vitamin C you can find in the wild just about anywhere they grow.
man i’m jealous, we don’t get ice cream trucks on my street
Was this pre-recorded or do you really get icecream vans in December?
Would kiwano or carambola be an option for ripe vs unripe month?
….think it’s the other way around. Green ones pack more vitamin c
You say very southern Florida but we grew it near Tampa. It produced for 8-9 months out of the year.
