The fruitarian diet is a subset of the vegan diet and it works just the way it sounds—you eat mostly (or all) fruit on the fruitarian diet. The fruitarian diet is one of the most restrictive eating patterns out there, and the risk of malnourishment is high, despite the nutritional quality of most fruits.Apart from the advantages of fruitarianism, there are also some problems related to a fruitarian diet. One downside of fruitarianism is that it might lead to problems with your stomach. For instance, through the consumption of large amounts of fruits, the acidity levels in your stomach will be quite high.
The fruitarian, or fruit, diet is a highly restrictive vegan diet. It excludes all animal products, including dairy. People following this program eat a diet consisting primarily of raw fruits.
Even in the summer months, your ability to eat locally depends on what is available in your area. A fruitarian in Ohio could have local access to strawberries in the summer months, but not avocados. Pro and Con: Weight Loss.
People on a fruitarian diet lose weight because it is difficult to consume too many calories on this type of diet. The fruitarian diet is a subset of veganism where fruit forms the main part of one’s diet. It has grown in popularity just as the raw-food diet has. The diet includes eating fruit, nuts and seeds. If you choose a fruitarian diet, proceed slowly.
Transition your diet to include a variety of fruits. And be sure to include nuts, seeds and vegetables with every meal because they will provide the fat and protein you need. They will also help slow down any blood sugar spikes that come from eating only fruit.A fruitarian diet only allows a few sources of good fats in minimal amounts.
Some of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids that are not allowed on a fruitarian diet include wild-caught salmon and sardines. 4. Nutrient Deficiencies. Proteins and good fats aren’t the only things the body can be depleted of when following a fruitarian diet.A fruit-based diet can enhance your chances of developing anemia due to the lack of iron in your body.
Lack of iron would also lead to you constantly feeling fatigued. Vitamin B-12 is usually only found in animal based foods and very often fruitarians develop a vitamin B-12 deficiency due to their choice of diet.Fruitarian Diet: But few large, or long-term, studies have been carried out on the health impact of the vegetarian diet and fruitarian diet.
In a new report, researchers at the Cancer Research UK Epidemiology Unit at Oxford University gather data from the original Oxford Vegetarian Study and a more recent one called fruitarian diet EPIC-Oxford.According to certified holistic nutritionist Kelly LeVeque, the fruitarian diet is “a subset of raw veganism, where you eat botanical fruits in their natural state.”This includes all sweet fruits and seeded fruits (such as avocado, tomato, cucumber, and olives), as well as nuts and seeds.Pros Of The Fruitarian Diet The Fruitarian diet has some definite pros which are easy to see.
As the diet is comprised of only fruits it is low cholesterol, high in vitamins and anti-oxidants.* it is a very cleansing diet, and may be helpful (in the short run) against diseases/disorders where physical toxemia is a factor (note: this applies to other raw foods diets as well; the point is that fruitarianism is probably the most cleansing diet). So let’s know the fruitarian diet pros and cons before starting off fruitarian diet.
See those below Fruitarian Diet Pros And Cons: A fruitarian diet is likely to be low in protein and essential fatty acids, which are important for growth and repair, as well as for the normal function of the immune system and hormone regulation. The flexitarian diet can help guide you toward a well-balanced, nutrient-dense eating plan. You’ll focus on adding more plant-based foods, while slowly lowering your intake of animal foods.
You’ll never need to eliminate meat on this diet though; you can incorporate it into your lifestyle in a way that works for you.A fruitarian diet is one that consists of up to 75% raw fruit. Fruitarians often say the diet makes them feel great, but some medical experts fear such a restrictive eating plan could result in.

Vegans, raw vegans, meat eaters etc etc… everyone pounces on each other!
You mentioned your body produces b12 but it’s so far down our G.I tract that it isn’t absorbed… Do you not supplement with b12?
My goal is to move away from processed vegan foods and be a mix of WFPB and raw. That would be optimal for my health.
I’ve tried everything to lose wt and cure diabetes. Now going to try raw vegan…
Excellent work! Even though there are five of each, the five Pros are more significant than the five Cons. For example, the #1 Con, “toxins”, applies to every diet there is. It’s not exclusive to raw. The con called “Dogma” is just a bit of social pressure and carries little weight against the Pro of “loads of anti-oxidants” for example. A related Pro is that of digestive enzymes, which get killed in the cooking process.
I’d like to try raw at some point but I love cooked food/ hate salads too much to keep it up for life I reckon
I think most of the benefits raw vegans see from their diet is caused by the low calorie intake and high amounts of antioxidants. Refined sugars, tobacco, and alcohol destroy your body. If you don’t do anything else you should stop consuming those three things.
That may have been the only non-biased take on raw foods I’ve ever heard
I love your unbiased views. this is an excellent video. I’m going mostly raw myself
I’d be bored rotten eating a raw diet, because I adore cooking and do it every day. I love being vegan, but eating only raw food doesn’t interest me at all.
Question: is all processed food equal? Hummus is a large part of my diet. I’ve become a total obsessive about reading labels since becoming Vegan last summer and am very careful about what I buy. I also have a full-time job and two Autistic teens, so in the interest of convenience I still buy canned beans on occasion and eat a lot of hummus (because I love it).
no polar opposite to peace, because subconscious/inner peace isn’t of the mind. polar opposites are just created by our thoughts/ego.
Not to mention most organic from other countries very well may have been sprayed with pesticides.
The “dirty dozen” has been debunked a million times and studies have found that the foods on the “good list” tend to have more pesticide residue on them then the ones on the “dirty dozen” list….besides the fact that organic produces is coated with natural pesticides like neem oil and organic produce also buys their non-synthetic fertilizer AKA animal poop from animal agriculture farms and often buy things like blood meal and whatever other waste they have. Just an FYI, i’m not a vegan nor do I eat animal products. I am Whole Food Plant Based and transitioning to raw.
As long as you’re careful to get enough calories and nutrients, you do you. I did it in high school and lost 30lbs and kept it off for a few years. Definitely wasn’t eating enough tho, I napped alllll the time. It’s too expensive for me to attempt now
Mic, you have such beautiful eyes, and such a beautiful beard, and such interesting scientific facts! If I ever turned vegan you’d be my guru! I just have one really honest and non-threatening question after watching this video: the timeline you showed about cooking food through History, how does it apply to food-cooking, yet not to meat eating?
Notice that we aren’t covered in hair. Because we invented fire.
I once heard raw is medicine, don’t eat medicine all your life
Little confused. What if you cook veggies plain and eat them like that, it’s no longer raw?
The dogma I’ve read “Cooked for is poison”. That is absolutely ridiculous. They should stop saying such things.
I suffered low energy, pallor, loose teeth and hair falling out on raw. I was believing it was THE diet for health. What I learned from Chinese Medicine, and I think they are correct, that raw diets done too long harm your health. You become “too yin” and get deficiency. Weaker digestion, loss of heat. It’s not good. Once I started eating warming foods with warming herbs I felt much better. Raw foodists cannot eat cooked beans and grains or potatos thus they are missing out on important foods in the vegan diet. And it’s very expensive as well and time consuming.
another con is extremely low fat intake unless you smash the nuts and avocado, but most raw vegans advocate for hclf which is kinda unhealthy lol
We’ve been cooking food for 400,000 years but we’ve only been around for 100,000-200,000?? Lol am I the only one who caught that?
Missed pros and conswinter/summer months! Tough to eat raw during cold seasons I find it very challenging. And not sure if it’s a good thing??
Mic. the Vegan, I like your video(s), but where I live near Boston, MA New England USA bananas are only $0.49/lb which makes them the cheapest food in the entire grocery store. I’ve been vegan since 1990, single mom working part-time since 1989, and high-raw since 1999; so, I’m just saying it’s not expensive to be raw-vegan (or vegan). In fact it’s cheap, at least for me. Just sayin.
Canadian here. Free health care ain’t so free anymore. I swear someone is wearing a blindfold and throwing darts to decide what they will or won’t cover.
As a raw vegan I appreciated this fair approach:) Thanks Brother!
Ted, the raw fruit angel, sent down from heaven above to minister with YouTube videos
im sorry mic but raw vegan in my opinion is better because you start seeing the blood sugar coming down on a raw vegan diet
faster within 2 days i was eating rice and potatoes and everything i was a cooked vegan but blood sugar was not coming down quite frankly i believe my body does not do good on cooked food and it just spikes too much its just not that effective at curing diabetes like a raw vegan diet will.
Bodies do not create B12, that is misinformation. Clear misinformation. Certain bacteria in the human gut can produce B12, but it is NOT absorbed.
I’m really resisting setting the record straight on a few more of your points. I have watched your videos for years at this point, never wanting to ruffle feathers, but always fascinated by your emotional beliefs. I hope people who watch this, or are inspired by you follow through with their own intensive research. There are half truths and whole truths to what you say, and we all know a half truth, or misinformed opinion is wickedly dangerous to spread. I want you well and happy, as I do all others… but come on, I get panicking thinking about the impressionable 12 year old treating this as law.
I’m am a mix. I eat a raw vegan breakfast, smoothies, snacks, and lunch, but I cook a whole foods plant based dinner. My husband isn’t eating a plate of raw zucchini noodles with cold sauce. . I think, as with most things in life, it’s about balance.
imo there isnt a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to eat since we are all different people with very different genetics. Some people digest everything very well, like huge quantity of meat and fats, whle others, like me, have a hard time digesting animal protein and fat rich foods. That’s why i went partially raw (60-70%) because raw foods are so easy to digest and make me feel good. You just have to listen to your body
” and pounce on you like a bunch of wild cats” it’s crazy out here.
Thank you for actually talking about the pros and cons of a raw diet and not push it in a way that makes it seem like the only way to be healthy.
Dirty dozen is everything I eat duck ima die… no matter what we do hahaha son of a bitch
The past does matter if you have a savings account that you’ve contributed to on a regular basis.
Just saying ✌.
con number 6 using plastic straws. tons of these are plastic waste. i believe there a metal straws now. reusable and cleanable. i don’t use straws of any type they push air into the stomach. you suck air into your stomach every time you take a sip. think on it. i eat vegan about 80 per cent cooked 20 per cent raw in winter, then in summer it pretty much reverses. more raw in the heat. vegan peace.
My whole food vegan diet fallback is totally not French fries.
…oreos…
If anything, this video encourages me to not buy the oreos.
I personally fell my best eating a mostly raw diet with lots of fruit, but I 100% acknowledged that not everyone is the same! It makes me really sad to see some the raw vegan “community” being so judgemental towards someone just because the started eating cooked foods, everyone is truely very different, although I do believe that every human has to ability to thrive on a vegan diet, whatever diet that happens to be is no one else’s business really but the person eating that certain way
being a vegetarian, i thought i’d be into thisi loooove fruit, but she sounds crazy and it’s a little off-putting
but she is super pretty and has a beautiful home:)
I don’t believe humans are intended to heat their food, just cuz it’s been discovered that cooking was ‘invented’ up to 2mil years ago.
There’s no other living being that is cooking and from the natural point of view it simply makes no sense.
ashly i never understand one human being claims that what he experts through a diet can suit every other human?! just why? like the earth the world r all about and around u aghhhhhh
some people actually seen teeth growth on raw food diet as well. Just an FYI. Don’t believe me? Do the research:)
Raw is cool. Can also be really healthy if one watches the calories. Doesn’t make sense to me though to only eat lots of healthy stuff but still skip some other healthy stuff. If you care about nutrient loss, STEAM INSTEAD OF COOK, people! I think it’s a good guideline to eat 2/3rds or 3/4th raw when doing WFPB. But I’ll never stop eating cooked/steamed legumes, veggies and whole grains. Makes no sense to stop that stuff. Also some stuff is better raw, some is better cooked, carrots for example.
Great video as always. Confused by how cooking happened before homo sapiens though? That doesn’t make sense to me.
I am very glad I live in my warm tropical country with cheap fruit fresh produce yaaaaay
Humanity will go vegan, if not for compassion it will be because eat meat is not an option for the environment. Nowadays 2/3 of humans don’t eat meat, because of religion, poverty, cultural habit or other reasons. In the future, after generations and generations of veganism, probably Nature will change back our genetic to turn possible to have a 100% raw diet like we had in the distant past, and like all the other animals on Earth have, except that ones that are fed by humans.
good vid. first pro con i have watched. the social comments were wasted (fruit festivals). also it is stated the food has been cooked prior to homosapian existence. love the vid
So happy I came across you love the vid, you seem lik a wonderful guy.
New subbie
You are assuming Human Evolution as in Darwin took place sometime in the past. I’m not saying the myth is wrong but it may not be for the reasons you think. Consider, we know overcooking food is bad, burning food is bad and most of us health conscious vegans dont over cook our food but do a lot of steaming or boiling, processes that don’t really destroy the food or change it’s chemical composition much so our bodies don’t have a problem with it. Couple this with the cooking helps us to break down and assimilate certain foods and Poof, no human evolution needed.
I enjoyed this video as a raw vegan fruitarian for well over 3 years now.:-)
3:16? A marathon every single day for a year? That can’t be right
haha i was shocked and i ate this diet for a week when i found out what “veggies” are actually fruits: pumpkins, tomatoes, peas, eggplant, corn, olives,…i often did salads with cucumber, bellpeppers, tomatoes, avocadoes and mango or cucumbernoodles, or watermelonsalad..with dates you can do a lot too. in fact i was quite surprised how creative i was and how much i loved it, but i must say that it cost a lot more and especially in winter i need my warm rice and potatoes:)
I love how educational based your channel is! Thank you for your help and direction!
Would you consider a video for views on and evidence to support or oppose a “seagan” diet?
i think you mean indestructible not invincible but good tips anyway xx
A major pro is that raw is low in Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs) linked to heart disease, dementia, diabetes, kidney insufficiency by setting off a cascade of inflammatory reactions in the body. FYI http://theage-lessway.com. Cooked meals can also be low in AGEs if moist cooking methods are used and an acid is added to the cooking but when high protein and fat and simple sugars are cooked using dry methods, or processed even dehydrating increase AGE levels. Even raw meat is relatively elevated in AGEs dry cooking makes it difficult to keep levels below the recommended 5,000 to 8,000 kilo units a day and portions must be small, even fried tofu is elevated but when the diet is plant-based it leaves more room for these in the diet while keeping total daily intake below the recommended threshold. Raw foods would be inherently low in AGEs even if some of the dehydrated and dry nuts have higher AGE levels than in their fresh state. Only about 500 foods have been studied for AGE levels. It remains to be seen if AGEs in nuts might be less absorbed given not all calories from nuts are absorbed…Plant-based using primarily moist cooking methods for higher protein foods while incorporating many raw options also is my preference. That being said AGEs form in a chemical reaction with protein and simple sugar, more so if high fat. I would still grill vegetables because they do not yield high AGE levels because of their low protein, sugar and fat content.
I eat raw until dinner then I have a cooked dinner. Just refrain from potatoes. Anyone who sees this make sure you do research on what foods add to the mucus in your system like potatoes. A rawist did die from eating a baked potato after eating raw for so long. Just avoid mucus-y cooked foods if you need a cooked meal
CON: Stupid raw vegan parents like these: https://ca.news.yahoo.com/florida-vegans-charged-murder-allegedly-183432819.html
I think we should have a cage match between raw foodies, junk food vegans, WFPB, and paleo.
Dude, concerning Annette Larkins, why did you not mention the amount of distilled water she’s been on? She cites that as her fountain of youth even more than her raw diet. Cmon vegans… nobody is talking about the state of our water!! lol
using a straw for sugary drinks will not prevent tooth decay! tooth rot is from calcium being drawn out of bones and soft tissues to neutralize the acid in the blood caused by the sugar. vitamin k2 is the best remedy.
Hey Mic, Can you please make a video focusing on the negative effects of sugar? It’s been very difficult for me to give it up when going whole food vegan,
5:54 This is in no way meant to sound negative at all, I’m actually really curious why is it that we have evolved to eat cooked food after so much time but not meat, is it due to less time or have we actually evolved to eat meat just done so poorly? similar to the panda who used to eat meat but now eats primarily bamboo but digests it poorly??? (Read that statement a while ago, can’t remember where from so i may be incorrect about it)
Interesting. I had a Marie Callender’s Turkey Pot Pie commercial right before this video started. And they say vegans force their views on others. Also interesting, this video.
I think the most reasonable balance between the two would be cooked starches, raw everything else. (Besides mushrooms, those are healthiest after being gently cooked.)
You CAN sprout grains and legumes, but it’s a bit time consuming, and I personally find the sprouted grains/legumes much less filling.
Ezekiel Bread is about as “raw” as bread gets, being made entirely with sprouted grains, and cooked VERY gently and minimally (at only 270 degrees in their oven.) Slow and gentle cooking will always preserve more nutrients.
I’ve realized something interesting: fruits and vegetables taste differently depending on the country of production. I’m talking about the fact that you will find one kind of spinach in Eastern Europe and a different one in Eastern Asia. I was UNABLE to eat European spinach, raw or cooked (just, ew), but I swear, I am literally ADDICTED to raw spinach from Japan. It’s just soo good, I have cravings when I skip a day or two of not eating it. You just have to eat it to believe it:)
Great Video Ted. I like the new home studio feel. Don’t eat too many of those nuts and seeds 😉 -Chris
A lot of people don’t eat vegetables because they think that they’re nasty or gross not because a plant “has to be killed”
I eat a bowl of fruit every day so I was just curious on what this was.
There is no con of using urine internally and externally, oine is the golden light and high octane for our bodies.:)
Karma free? That entire concept disregards practices that many growers use that are cruel to the people that produce the fruit/ work in the industry and practices that are harmful to the environment and aren’t sustainable
The world DOES NOT need negative people whatsoever in order for those who are positive to shine their light brighter, they only provide a contrast to those who lead a positive way of life. Humanities light shines brighter when everyone is screwed in straight.
Yes agree.. from a Soul s perspective we can feel invincible… however we are still in a physical body that needs nutrition. Just listen to your body.
The way I see it, you should still include raw foods into your diet but you don’t need to make it an arbitrarily limitation. Definitely good to get a mix of both in my opinion.
I’m 5 months into my raw journey. Mind over matter. You are so right. Thank you.
Organic is the only way to go for me. I do my best to go Non-GMO and Organic with as much as possible. It doesn’t have to be expensive either, if you buy in season, go to farmer’s markets, etc.
Toxins are horrible for your body and they can keep you from losing weight. Love that plant-based, raw diets actually solve our huge problem of diabetes.
It doesn’t have to be expensive. You just have to look at what you can get and what you can afford. You don’t have to buy raw nut butter to go raw. You can buy plants and many other raw foods without going broke.
Personally, I love the idea of going raw, but not 100%. I like the idea of about 80% to 90% raw as that one or two hot meals here and there are very good, imho.
no lentils, no beans, no rice, probably not even potatos
im not down with this xD
I loved what you had to say! I liked your comment about how easy it is to go into prayer mode when your food is pure.
Hey but if right now I can’t eat organic, you think is better eat fruit not organic than cooked food?
I just found your Channel ❤️ & I just noticed your Danish, I’m from the Uk but I went Efterskole In Denmark
Great video. I’m sure you know that the B-12 statement you made may need to be researched a bit better. But, overall, nice video.
Great video. I totally agree, stressing or living on just bananas, or trying to go without greens in a cold climate does not give you the nutrients you need. It’s a balancing act not to get stressed about the price of fruit in the winter versus finances. Finding food to fall back on, like frozen berry smoothies, dates and bananas are key but we need fresh whole fruit also. I’ve been eating more veggies and greens, and a little seeds or nuts now and then, fresh juices, and more avocados. I can’t afford to be dogmatic and don’t live one the right climate to be a fruitarian dining on nothing but tropical fruits. What would be the point if I let the stress get to me that would be worse for my health, or if I otherwise go into debt trying to live the ideal lifestyle.
Pro tip, get buckets, fill them with soil and plant something, water like once a week or whatever it requires and you save some money.
veganic, grow your own, neighborhood share, communal gardening, wild gathering. many weeds that people generally ignore are edible.
Awesome video! Clear, to the point, visually calm 😉 Piano is cool, a little bit loud, but otherwise nice as an addition to the whole video 😉 Yes, love my fruits, we are fighting a huge industry…the food industry hate the simple way we could all be eating…its a weird world we live in, we need to stay together and help each other people like you are spreading the love! Keep going! much love Ted to you and family! xo
This is my first day transitioning to a fruitarian diet. I ate basically a raw till 4 diet today. I had about 15 medium sized apple for the day and felt incredible. So much energy and my mood was great even though I had a pretty rough day. When I got home I had some soup and then chips and salsa. I felt okay I guess but nowhere near eating only fruit. So being just vegan is not good enough for me. Fruit is where it is at. I have one question for you Ted. My family is not vegan so there is not a lot of room for a fruit stash. Any ideas of good places to store fruit.
I’m broke and I’m on a Raw Vegan diet. It’s possible if you know how to spend your money right. I’ve always been a check to check person. I usually am scrambling for money at some point in the month but I’ve managed to make a Vegetarian, Vegan and now Raw Vegan diet all these years. There just needs to be more people like me doing it so we can figure it out and teach others and that’s precisely what I’m trying to do. Help the middle and lower class figure it out. I can get by with $100 in a week. Thankfully I do live in California though but still alot of my peers are under the impression that it’s too expensive for them when I spend less on food than most of them.
Lmfao they still think a rotting corpse is a good source of protein. I rather eat fruit
Oh yeah right there’s two sides to everything (!). Nothing is 100% bad. Mass murder for instance isn’t just completely negative. It decreases world population and that’s good for plenty of reasons.
Going raw vegan is not a possibility in my pesticide filled plant foods country
I really wanna go raw for a few weeks, once when I’m on holiday or live somewhere warmer where a lot of yummi fruit grows!:D but I really wanna try it
I’m almost six months into my raw fruitarian diet, no seeds or nuts. I get plenty of protein & fats just from fruit at just 800 1200 calories a day and I do intensive workouts daily.
I loved this! But do you think some of those cons/symptoms could have just been related to the coffee detox? I have quite coffee before and the detox phase was rough haha!
Additional pro: loads more energy cause less energy used to digest food for the calories
con: social pressures, lack of food availability at restaurants, perfectionism
Me: eating a banana while eating this because I am hungry lol I would bever do this tho, I think. I am vegan tho and trying to get everything from every plantbased food groups Bali seems the best place to at least eat as many fruits as possible I would totally spend my money on all the juices out there lol!!
We are used to “feeling full” which is basically a food coma, most of the times coming from emotional eating since our bodies dont need that much food. thats why you most likely wont feel full on a raw vegan/fruitarian diet/lifestyle. Because it doesnt fulfill addictions or cravings/emotions in that way. Its easier to learn to listen to your body this, real hunger. Which is not eating till you can’t move
It definitely isn’t always practical! I’m committed to it until I’m fully detoxed but that can take a long time even a decade… maybe by then I won’t want to be off of it lol btw I love dr Morse my mom is a student of him I’ve learned so much from both of them!
I LOVE your yard and the planters! Your plants look so healthy and vibrant. It seems like you’ve got a really good plan not only for your weight loss goals but as a way of eating in general. I’m loving your videos!:)
