For various reasons, including disuse, a lack of stretching, or injury issues, the fascia, and the underlying muscle tissue can become stuck together. This is called an adhesion, and it results in restricted muscle movement along with pain, soreness, and reduced flexibility or range of motion. Myofascial.
Fascia adhesions tend to feel better with movement and also respond well to heat therapy, which helps bring back the tissue’s elasticity. For some people, adhesions can worsen over time, causing the fascia to compress and contort the muscles it surrounds. This can result in hard, tender knots in the muscles, called trigger points.Hypothetical Model: During fascial unwinding, the therapist stimulates mechanoreceptors in the fascia by applying gentle touch and stretching.
Touch and stretching induce relaxation and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. They also activate the central nervous system, which is involved in the modulation of muscle tone as well as movement.Fascia, or connective tissue, helps muscles communicate. See how to keep this important part of your body supple to improve your mobility and decrease pain. Recorded on 05/09/2017.
That gauzelike substance is your fascia, a connective wrap made of gelatinesque glycoproteins that soak up water, collagen, and various other cells. Its.In the book, David describes how the first layer of fascia underneath the skin, called the “superficial” fascia, separates the skin from the muscles, allowing them to slide over one other. The superficial layer also incorporates thermoregulation and lymph and blood flows.
Below this is a layer called the deep fascia. In short, the Deep Fascia (or muscle fascia) is defined as; the connective tissue that surrounds (or encloses) individual muscles and muscle groups. The fascial system maintains a balance of tension and elasticity which allows for smooth, unrestricted movement of each muscle group while holding everything in place. If the fascia is restricted then muscle contraction is restricted. The fascia assists with muscles as they glide through movements, facilitates fluid flow between tissues, and transmits mechanical forces.
This broad definition of fascia describes fascial tissues as an interconnected tensional network that can adapt to the demand placed on each part of the fascia. Photo Credit: Fascial Restructuring Therapy. The fascia is a web of connective tissue underneath the skin formed in bands that wrap around all the internal parts of the body the muscles, organs, nerves, bones, and blood vessels from head to toe. It is the informational and structural highway of the body that allows the muscles to move freely alongside other structures and reduces friction.
That gauze-like substance is your fascia, a connective wrap made of gelatinesque glycoproteins that soak up water, collagen and various other cells. Its main job: to hold your muscles, joints, tendons and bones in place. Fascia covers every muscle in your bod.Fascia is an internal connective tissue which forms bands or sheets surrounding muscles, vessels and nerves in the body. Connective tissue made up of COLLAGEN (rigid) and varying amounts of FAT. → Separate, support & interconnect organs and structures. → Enable movement of 1.
There are probably three functions of the intramuscular fascia (or the connective tissue, as it is also called): It binds the muscle together, while ensuring proper alignment of the muscle fibers, the blood vessels flowing through the muscles, the nerves and other components of the muscle. The connective tissue can control the orientation of the muscle fibers, so as to reflect the vector of the force’s direction, and to render the transition of the tension more fluid and ergonomic.24 The fascial system is rich in proprioceptors, particularly the Ruffini’s and the Pacini’s corpuscles, mostly in the areas of transition between the articulation and the fascia, and between the.How To Fascia Training Guide Fascia Training is a relatively new concept to make it into the fitness world, where the focus is placed on the connective tissues surrounding the muscles over the muscles themselves.
Before we talk about fascia exercises, first let’s cover what fascia actually is. Fascia training 101 Fascia is the connective tissue that runs through your entire body surrounding.

At 5mins theres a picture of a flayed body with a leaf covering the genitals. Seriously? Lol. I think if we’re gonna show a flayed body, we can handle seeing genitals. I mean what is the point of the leaf here? For “modesty”? As if a flayed body is modest. Great talk but also a reminder that our culture is more comfortable with violence or death than seeing genitals for a min..even flayed ones. Its just so silly you guys actually put a leaf over the flayed body’s genitals. Like why? What was the reasoning? Lol good lord.
Thank you to Mr Daprato and Mr Leung for a wonderful lecture.
GUA SHA deep cross-friction massage technique helps to move fascia and increase flexibility in tissues to break adhesions together with stretching yoga ets. In order to change all misalignments in body need to be persistent and learn to handle pain cause stretching and massage hurts. Unfortunately to become flexible need one year of every day practice of 1.5 hour in addition with massage. A lot of body work of doing nothing over long period of time
This was great love you guys! Thanksvery informative and clear!
I wonder if fibro was studied as fascia inflammation, if we’d have any better relief
This was interesting but you go way way too fast. You are very difficult to follow. Take your sprach slower. You will get more across.
fascia makes you who you are….. naaaa. makes me who I look like to others and myself.
The intro reminds me of an old Egyptian poem’s translation “Form is frozen music”
Wow what a physique dana has it doesn’t get much better than that.
Check in with John F Barnes at https://www.MyoFascialRelease.com/, the founder of modern MFR
I recently had to dissect an entire body at University, and I can confirm fascia is absolutely everywhere. I can’t express how interesting it was to see how all your inner parts in relation to each other
I see you mentioned a few contributors and pioneers in your talk. Why you missed F.M. Alexander and his work that goes back to the early 1900’s I do not understand. Pretty much all the second half of your lecture could be looked at through the lens of the Alexander technique and he did so without the use of ultra-sound, MRI, microscopes, or decades of surgical analysis. He did it by observation; first of his own “Use” and then that of others. A very informative talk, but please give credit where credit is due and that means mentioning a true pioneer in the field of form, function, body-mind connectivity and education in movement analysis and rectification through mindfulness of action. F.M. Alexander and the Alexander technique. Then there is Ida Rolf (who you mention), Mabel Todd, Lulu Sweigard, the rip-off merchant Feldenkrais amongst others.
The key is movement! Get out of bad muscle memory to feel relief.
Every Day! If you hurt, get moving and stretching. You wont get better by sitting still.
If you use it wrong or dont use it, you loose it✌
There still is no data after years of fascial treatment seminars and courses. This does not mean that there are no results, what this means is that it is conjecture that fascia is locked up in a particular area of the body. Until data arrives common sense is that corrective protocols achieve the same results. This has data!
F M Alexander was and still is light years ahead of these fahschitz. Permanent change is through habit. Period.
This is very fascinating. I have chronic pain and a friend told me about facia. I just wonder if all the “crunchy” feelings I have is not the joints and is the facia. I absolutely hate feeling that crunching feeling. I never crunched before I got a bad neck injury.
didn’t say anything useful. what a useless waste of time. stupid bitch
I have big knots (painful triggerpoints) all over my body that started in my upper shoulder blades and lower back. Some are golf ball size some are dime size. For about 20 years, then for 3 years i got knots in my deltoids and triceps and that hurt my elbow so. Bad! I got a shot in there that didnt help. 1 year ago the knots arrived up my neck then 1 month ago my hips were killing me then overnight it seemed i had knots all down the side and frontal areas of my upper legs and 2 in my calves. I was in pain management for 7 years until i lost my ins. My lifes been hell since i lost my insurance and no meds. I was diagnosed by 3 drs Fibromyalgia which i didnt think made much sense when i researched it, it always came to myofacial pain syndrome?!! And i have meralgia protesestica. Which lyrica helps 90% with my touch. Im in such pain w these leg knots and i even use my elbow to push down on them. They are big and mives side to side crunch and pop. I use a rolling pin now down my leg past month and my boyfriend had massaged me for a year. Nothing helps except when o had opioids. I am only 42 and cant take it anymore. Help!! What can i do?? I work full time and am a single.momma. my left leg pain is so bad that it stays in pain. The weird thing is. The knots are perfectly on same place on each side
ur teaching method is too effective sir, thanks alot to spread your knowledge….
I don’t know about your technique. I won’t say it’s good or it’s no good. But what I think you did wrong in your video (I read the fisrt hundreds of comments…) is to denigrate the efficiency of a good massage. That was not necessary. As a massage therapist, I can tell you one thing, if you were a MT for a whole year, you were still a beginner… it takes few years to improve. And even after 20 years, we all still learn and improve. I wish you the best with your business.
Could you address hammer toes and the chronological progression of their development, and how to reverse this?
I have a question here how “cracking knuckles” release pressure? Would it help to crack our back, in order to restore mobility or even fluid-flow within and around some of the Intervertebral Discs?
Hey mate! Wast this recorded? I’d love to get a copy of this.
I love how he says honey. Great info. I really go into my facia a few weeks ago.
What makes fadcia so restrictive on some people and not others??
Medication can affect fascia. Especially gentamicin amongst others?
He has a small idea…how fascia works…but I tell you all…he learned from a Xochimilca Mexican Doctor…his name is Dr. Prospero….ask..Mr. Myers…
So… I’m glue and you’re glue. Whatever you say sticks to me and sticks to you, too.
Well, that doesn’t sound witty at all.
Mantak Chias book, Iron Shirt Chi Kung explains it way deeper and how the fascia is meant to be pressurized like a balloon inside the body. He explains how to pressurize the three layers of fascia.
This is how acupuncture works, it is fascial planes which make up the acupuncture channel system.
Excellent lecture. As an ol’fart who’s committed to a daily yoga practice, the only term I hear used more than Namaste is fascia. What I wonder about is how the sequence of postures matter; does one sequence improve the health of the fascia more than another? If so, why? Anyway, thanks for posting this lecture, it helped me understand why I’d better keep moving correctly.
Thank you, thank you for this critically important information. I have had chronic pain from “fibromyalgia” for over 36 years. I have spent thousands of hours, time, energy, and money on trying to get well enough to have some kind of meaningful life. I have been blessed to have a career that has allowed me an unbelievable retirement, a supportive son, and now a darling granddaughter. This video is the first and most informative thing I’ve ever seen on the Fascia system and chronic pain. The “Spider Web” description of the fascia system and the young man in the “fascia suit” were very helpful in helping me get a clear understanding of what’s been going on in my body all this time. I look forward to finding more info and new, effective solutions for this serious condition.
Learned all about fascia and its importance 30 years ago studying to practice massage therapy. I was humiliated by several doctors over the years for my work. It was as if they wanted me to feel like an idiot and proceeded to denigrate the entire profession. Witnessed many clients experience massive relief from receiving Myofascial release. As well, I experienced this relief myself after an injury from a fall made it so painful to sit. I can sympathize with the other individuals here that are pissed for the lack of recognition for our profession. One does hope that this will change.
haha SO happy that the fuzz speech was mentioned.. its one of my favorite videos to show to explain fascia to someone
just finished my degree in exercise and wellness from ASU. I loved this lecture. Thank you!
But isn’t compression an outside force? LOL I mean I get what you’re trying to say but you’re not going to ask your body to change its fascia without using an outside force.
This has been the best and most concise yet comprehensive overview of fascia that will greatly contribute to my holistic anatomy studies. Many thanks for this
This is one of best descriptions of fascia I’ve heard. Thank you for posting this.
You give a opinion about the massage. 1st you need to identify your self, what is your profession. Also, like to hear your if I can’t use massage, what modality would be the best alternative method to release the fascia. Lastly, delete your video, and make one with cause and effect. Disappointed with a good presentation and lack of substance.
I blew a hole in my finger a couple days ago. 3200 psi water nozzle hit my knuckle punching almost to the joint and attempting to inflate my finger.
After a day and a half, the hole is gone; completely filled in. The human body is amazing!
Wow fascia are so cool and under appreciated, I’m gonna make a shirt to show off my love for them: “I’M A FASCIST!!!:)”
Love the presentations! They are very informative. I have one suggestion for the speakers: Stop saying, “Does that make sense?” You are the expert. It should make sense or don’t say it. Asking, “Does that make sense?” sounds weak and lacks confidence. Women say this when they speak more than men do, and I have always thought our society has conditioned them not to be too confident, but I noticed that both men in this presentation say it. I would suggest either stopping for a moment to let your point sink in, or make the point again and use a different way to transition to the next point. Does this make sense?:)
Thank you so much for this clarification, it is super important even though the examples are not in the same video. What you said makes all the sense and goes along with what i’m learning here http://hakomi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/The-Body-Reveals.pdf and wanted to share with you! This is the first of your videos that I am watching, I’ve just subscribed and you are one smart lady! I feel like you have just provided a big piece of the puzzled of answers I’ve been searching for for so long! Thank you so very much all the way from Brazil! <3
If you have chronic pain, check out hanna somatic movement. Very effective!
She sincerely believes that fascia is a new concept? Um, no. There is Rolfing or Feldenkrais just to name the basic theorists.
Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathy, talked about the importance of fascia since the 1890s.
Sutherland’s techniques and many other osteopathic techniques are all targeted at the connective tissue.
For osteopaths, it has always been clear that treating the fascia (and the peritoneum and the dura) is the base of the treatment.
Thanks! One of the few really good and realistic videos about fascia! Some remarks, still: there are no “pain receptors”, since pain is a product of the central nervous system. This kind of terminology only keeps confusing patients and professionals, conflicting with our goal of clarifying pain neuroscience in the population. And: we have to be very careful in making comclusions about fascia and emotions. Long way to go there in science yet.
Very interesting. Thank you for valuable information. Only GUA SHA helps. Chiropractor I went to doesn’t know about fascia importance. Physical therapist need to relicensed and treat suffering people differently right way. Foam rollers not enough to heal. Cupping didn’t help. In order to move fascia need to move it and promote blood circulation. Cupping makes only temporary space and then everything goes back. They didn’t mention about blocked meridians which cause many symptoms and health problems
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
Eccentric exercises are much better than standing on a muscle lol
Fascia, the Sensory Information Organ
The human body is covered with a complex interconnective structure that forms into the embedded liquid crystalline matrix of the connective tissue network that is called the Fascia. This connective tissue network connects into every major system in the human body and its purpose is to relay sensory information and instruction sets throughout the multiple layers of tissue matrices, connecting internal and outer circuitry into the multidimensional spiritual layers. It is the Fascia Crystalline Network that saturates our cells with multidimensional light and sound, acting as the most important energetic communication system in our physical body. Specifically, the fascial liquid crystalline network connects directly with all of the horizontal triad bodies that make up the entire Radial Body system, and the main 12 meridians that intersect with the 12 axiatonal lines, which further communicate and send messaging into the brain and throughout the nervous system.
Most are unaware that the extensive connective tissue of the fascia network is the manifestation of the pre-matter instruction set of tissue capsules and complex crystalline webbing that make up the multidimensional identity spheres energetic structure of the Radial Body.
When the crystalline matrix is properly hydrated in the human body, the entire living system is bound within the water molecules and becomes electrified, transmitting energy signals at much faster speeds than the central nervous system. Thus, the fascia network becomes a semiconductor that is conductive to electromagnetism, sparking protons and electrons to help create ions which are intrinsic to the biological ionization process of ascension that generates plasmic light. The biological ionization process is what builds and strengthens the lightbody, preparing the inner dwelling of our consciousness bodies to receive and embody liquid plasmic light.
By understanding the piezoelectric effects of the fascial network, life force energy can be circulated to move through blockages in the meridian system and further support biological ionization. Additionally, the fascia network receives the energetic pulses we receive from the Cosmic Order that has been filtered down as energy transmissions made into the layers of the Radial body, which are then further filtered down to be transmitted into the horizontal triad bodies or dimensionalized shields. The fascia network acts as the capacitor needed to absorb the energetic current when our biology is being subjected to the added exposures of electromagnetic surges and intergalactic plasmas that are currently transmitting during the planetary ascension. It modulates the down stepping of frequency activation in the ways that our physical body can handle or survive, so that we don’t blow our circuits.
Fascia is intelligently designed to integrate all component parts of the human body into a holistic living matrix, it is the primary organ system that is designed to unify all bodily systems in order to synthesize physical functions into achieving energetic balance or homeostasis. When there is an impact made to one smaller section of the fascia, it communicates throughout all of the interconnected structures, thus, the entire living system of the body is affected.
The Fascia crystalline network acts as the transport messenger of intelligent information, such as that made from encountering stimulus from the outer world by communicating that data to the inner energetic landscape of the entire human body. The information that is collected from the environmental conditions are sent back into the cells of the human body in order to determine what genes are being transcribed within the cell and what instruction sets are needed for an assortment of functions to optimize the bodily systems. As an example, the cells in the body produce metabolic waste products that require detoxification, and the fascia network delivers the information needed in the cell to cell network to help facilitate the cellular detoxification process and then help to deliver nutrients to where they are most needed. The fascia network performs the same function for releasing and clearing the energetic equivalents of toxins, such as implants, AI signals and energy parasites, which includes the realms of negative entity attachments and alien hybridization overlays. These classifications are considered energetic contaminants that require detoxification from the organic crystalline body and consciousness, which have negative impacts similar to unreleased metabolic waste that become toxic.

I’ve heard of something similar in regards to improving stab-protection of body armor. Bullet resistant vests are great at stopping common handgun bullets, but other objects like knifes can easily pierce the vest (bullets are typically soft and deform, while knives don’t). A few years ago, there was a study of a milky liquid with unusual properties: the molecules can move around, slowly, but when a quick force is applied, they lock together. Researchers are hoping that when Kevlar is treated with this liquid, it will improve the protection for the person wearing the vest.
This is a wonderful segment. I have been doing follow up research (thanks for your links) and sharing with friends. I have also been thinking that this is another reason massage has various health benefits. It will be fun to see what more we learn.

this is just another TCM term Jin Mo, this is is 2000 year old knowledge written in Chinese books.
Doesn’t most modern surgery just tear right through fascia without much concern?
This is true healing getting down to the core of the issue and actually addressing it. Not just covering it and suppressing it with a lifeterm of medication issued by big pharma. Maker of Poisons.
God I’m getting really tired of the constant only-meme comments.
I’m really enjoy wacthing these videos!!! I’m currently a student studying Chinese Medicine and for acupuncture needling insertion this really gives a much clearer understanding under the surface. Although, I don’t expect you to find tangible evidence of the “Qi” in certain acupuncture points on the body it does lends itself to further study of the different layers of the body. Thank you
finally some appreciation for the support staff! Without it the stars can’t shine
Ive been on this couch now for 3 days after working 1 day. And now i have to have spinal fusion because of severe DDD and psoriatic arthritis along with stenosis and spondylitis.
Anyone recognize those two images at 3:40 are the same rotated 90degrees and cropped?
GOOD VIDEO! FASCISM HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PAIN IN THE ASS ANTIFA IS EVEN A BIGGER PAIN WHAT ARE WE TO DO?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok… So then how do you do it? If You cannot do it with massage and foam rolling How the hello You do it?
Just curious how collagen/HA play in all of this? I had discomfort all over my body and it is gone with this specific collagen.
Specializing in the Study of fascia makes you a fascist???:)
Also I would like to mention that you have a very nice and simple way of explaining things..
You are very welcome, thank you for taking the time to watch
Do you know YouTube blocked this video behind a survey? They would not let me play this video unless I participated and completed their survey. There are 2 problems with this: one is what will it become in the future and second is that I gave vague answers to the survey. So basically YouTube learnt nothing from my answers, got crappy irrelevant data from me… Surveys should be voluntary and at the end of the content else all they get is garbage data.
The better approach to pain management is to understand how interconnected our wonderful body is & try to restore the structural parts so pain will go & function restored. Taking painkillers not only mask the symptom & delay prompt treatments.
The only training system out there that respects these myofascial lines and force transmissions is Functional Patterns, check it out!
We bought a set of cups. Awesome results on both shoulders and legs after just one treatment. Here is a video I made of my shoulder results: https://youtu.be/9exppArfJhA
This is one of the things in the body that doesn’t work for us with connective tissue disorders such as EDS, so please everyone, study the fascia more!
Hey!! Nobody won’t listen to me because they are always criticizing my techniques. I will now go on youtube and post up this bullshit so that I could baffle gullible people with my bullshit here!! Yay!
I know for a fact since I started taking Knox gelatin……that my knee is not popping or giving out like it was. Also where Id broken bones on fingers the bone has gone down.
This is an amazing video. My concept of fascia is so much clear now. While reading few texts I came across fascicle, endomysium and perimysium. I do understand that theses are connective tissues surrounding the muscle cell or fiber, I am not able to differentiate these three layers in the video. Fascia and epimysium is clear
Great! Inspiring and educational beyond any expectation! Thank you!
So, compression and active movement in the “stuck” area are the key. Got it, but it would have been helpful if you showed us an example of the specific technique on someone. Even something simple would have improved your talk to make it more applicable and less abstract. Something to think about for the future. I’m gonna check out your other content.
the relationship between the small animal on your head and the hair around your head greatly represents muscle and fascia relationships. btw, good video.
Emilie Conrad discovered the significance of healthy fascia more than 40 years ago. Alas, she was a visionary, not a scientist and who wants to listen to a visionary? Look up her work, you will find some videos that you can watch that are not techniques, rather demonstrations of how to connect deeply to your own web of movement.
I respect and appreciate people who donate for science. Thank you. Great info.
Thank you, I have just begun to study a teaching course in yoga and I was looking up anatomy of muscles when I came across your video! I don’t have any background in science or medicine. This video is fascinating and amazing. Thank you so much for educating me further, and thank you to the loved one who gave their body to this learning. Pain and the relationships between muscles and fibres and tendons and bones makes complete sense to me now. Our knowledge has/is incomplete til now. Thank you again. Caroline
I developed a weak point in my lower right inguinal area when I was 9. They cut me open to cut out flesh and fascia and sewed me up. That was 1963. In 2008, I sneezed and yelled at the same time and blew out another hernia but this time on the left side. It’s 2020 and I refuse to fix this because my gut knowledge tells me this can be fixed! I have 3 males in my life that all had their hernias repaired with the Mesh Method. Too many lawsuits and lots of pain years later. If it is the fascia that fell apart from gassy foods and lack of proper movement, shouldn’t we be able to fix this nagging hernia. Thousands of men, women and children get Hernia Operations around the world every year. What do I need to do mam? I am a slim 65 yr young guy. My wife feels bad for me.
Excellent mam…..iam Rajib from India how can I avail this treatment…. Please guide me on this
LOL fascia is a new concept in medicine. that’s b/c western medicine m.d.s are backwards and arrogant. My massage therapist talked about it 40 years ago! MDs are only listening now b/c there is money in it.
Beautiful work, very helpful for my theory of Hyperarch mechanism
Like she says at the end “when everyone tells you it’s too late, and the MRIs and x-rays say so, don’t believe it”. This method is curing me of a recent onset of cpps and a whole list of ailments I have had for decades…. my life is turning around with no surgery or tablets
Dr. Rolf was publishing and studying this during her life, and created a well codified modality before she died in 1979. Maybe the medical community is unfamiliar with her work, hence your comment, but fascial workers are fantastic and have been realigning bodies for more than 50 years. I’m glad you have joined us.
Pinche copia de Hank Green:( solo que mas guapo pero que sad que su estilo de explicar las cosas se parezca. Uno que quiere cosas diferentes y salen con esto lol.
Hello, thanks a lot for your video.Could you tell me where can I find this video subtitled in Spanish?
Thank you for making these videos available. I am a Body worker. I very much appreciate your respectful approach and the details you highlight. Thank you, thank you. These videos Help me to become a more skilled practitioner.
yes i mean it. you can make your workout sessions much more productive if your eating the right foods to avoid fat and belly. Listen to this I saw an interview with body building champion where he talks about 7 odd foods he eats to keep his abs hard. you can watch out here bit.ly/13HBn0a?=igdln
Good news Cesar, the videos are now subtitled in Spanish for your friends in Mexico for whom this might make watching the videos more interesting!
It’s funny how essential it is to know this,…”you know?” LOL. But,…seriously, in medical school, this isn’t talked about beyond anatomical recognition with a “macro-view” of fascia. Ridiculous.
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
well this taught me nothing how to improve/ release/ strengthen my fascia…
Is it just me, or is this a useless video??? She doesn’t tell us how to change it from the INSIDE! What are we supposed to do? ASK it to be more pliable pretty please?? Ugh. Useless!
You can’t manually break up fascial restrictions with manual therapy. Must be surgically released.
Massage Therapists worth their salt always improve their trade. I use positional release technique which is an Osteopathic method. As well as Reflexology, other Reflexes stimulation, joint mobilization, active resist, inhibition, Cranio-Sacral for deeper changes. Suggest restorative yoga for increase in telemeric activity. And for clients to research the pillars of nutritional health as we are living in a world of “Roundup/Glyphosate” mimicking a protein that aids in certain hormone production.
Massage therapists I know actually understand that fascia unwinds because they have had personal experiences in meditative and cerebrospinal fluid movement.
Thanks for sharing that’s pretty interesting I definitely agree on the school thing I don’t feel like I got everything I needed out of school think God for you tube
I bet they only wanted to do this episode is to see how many times he can say “fascia” i 5 min
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us…. so helpful to me as a Yin yoga teacher
Fascia, every medical students worst nightmare in the anatomy lab…
Wonderful, was expecting applause from audience on the progress of Samantha and this dear lady who has wonderfully explained fascia…I m a yoga practitioner and teacher from India, and wud definitely share this video with my students, henceforth whenever I will explain function of fascia. Thank u.
…a brilliant Dr helping a severely scoliotic child. I wonder how many drs have turned her away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4-RhU2zWlE&t=62s
Lady your starting sentence proves one and only one thing. You have no clue about what massage does and what fascia is. Please do Study more before posting dumb things on the village
Massage therapist have been talking about this for decades but now the doctors are talking about it so it’s “new” give me a break
Thank you for this. Finally someone who understands fascia.
That’s the reason why massages are often temporary.
If you don’t move your muscle yourself together with a fascia compression, you won’t get a great change.
Anyone who disliked this video, disagreeing with you just doesn’t know better.
Please re frame from giving info until you have more knowledge and well versed in it. Also Fascia can be manipulated in many ways and its individually dependent.
Thank you so much, just came on to your site. Have just tried some self fascia release from some of your videos and feel amazinghas already relived tight muscles which has been there for years. Please keep on sharing and ignore the skeptics
So what you do is push in the opposite direction and then release. Yoga changes fascia
This makes me wonder how this could help scalp tissue on balding heads…?
You say we need to release facsia from the inside by movement, but don’t say HOW, so, unfortunately, this isn’t very helpful. Even if you don’t show specific exercises, just saying “movement” is not specific enough. What kind of movement?
I didn’t learn how to release anything. Gee… thanks for nothing.
if stretches are only temporary why should i keep stretching my neck?
There is a lot more to massage than just cos it feels good.
I had to study years of anatomy an physiology an you just throw that to the wind as just a feel good!
Massage releases, lactic acid, urea an all kinds of other health benefits, including bowel movements, the list is endless. You don’t seem to know massage therapy at all so please don’t underestimate the power of massage,
Oh an your applying to the inside? from the outside?
This doesn’t all make sense.
I would be surprised if fascia doesn’t also turn out to have a critical role in immunity, especially as it has a role in autoimmune disease.
I love your videos and photos. I have wrecked fascia and all connective tissue, as well as severe CNS and PNS damage, from a few tablets of fluoroquinolone antibiotic, am in agony all the time and, after nearly four years, it’s the fascitis and fascial tears that are the worst thing. Nobody ever talks about fascia, do they?
not new info to me, as I took massage therapy in private school. But look at the figure on her…I could listen a few times..
Nice suit demonstration but wish she actually provided some advice on specific stretching, exercise, massage, posture techniques. You’d think that companies would start to realize that the best way to get new clients is to provide some free advice before trying to sell.
How do I achieve compression? Is it some kind of resistance stretching technique?
Cause of FIBROMYALGIA & POLYMYALGIA. (chronic pains. Cobwebs. Fibrin. WOW!!
Please. Can you all EXPLAIN A CONDITION CALLED “POLYMYALGIA: something like a virus attacks the muscles of 70yr.old females. Also, known by Rheumatoidolgy doctors.) Some kind of Arthritis. Please? Can SOMEONE Knowledgable EXPLAIN IN Depth what is going ON? What is it? Why it attacking elderly??
I was literally typing a comment about the possible link between Fibro and fascia when you mentioned it. It makes a LOT of sense from the point of view of patients and their doctors. Fibro symptoms include, among many other things, poor proprioception, depression, anxiety, hyperalgesia (meaning normally painful things are felt out of proportion), and even in some severe cases, allodynia (when the body views non-painful stimuli as painful, often things like cloth textures and temperature).
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
i freaking love sci show for sharing such cool stuff with us:O
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
Hey, massage has been used to relax, relieve, heal muscles, bones joints, nerve and every body tissue, right from new born babies to older ppl, in India. Since, time immemorial.. Two personally known cases..1. A person while travelling from the south of India to East by train, accidentally put his leg out the window of general class saloon, hit a pole by the track and almost but severed his leg,a couple of inches above the ankle.. He is moved from railway hospital and to other hospitals, where all that the doctors want to do is sever his leg. He refuses their treatment and somehow returns back to his village some 8 to 10 days later simply on heavy injections of antibiotics. There his bones and wounds are healed by ayurvedic medicines and massage.!!,,,2nd case: A persons leg gets crushed under the knee,by a heavy truck. Bones are crushed and yet that is healed by massage therapist. No, the massage therapist are not the medical school trained, but family profession type. The place that is referred here for such treatment is Nishiganj, Coochbehar, West Bengal
I agree with most of the massage therapists comment. please all repetition of unconscious movement can cause pain
The reason massage does not create lasting change is because fascia is fluid in nature. We are made largely of water. With massage the therapist is sliding and gliding over the surface of tissue, they are not getting down to the ground substance of tissue which is at the cellular level. This is mainly why massage only produces temporary results. Massage can be very forceful and some therapists will push past the body’s natural limits, achieving results at the expense of damaged tissue. When our body’s perceive this forceful pressure we naturally brace against it and tighten, therefore, we can not achieve lasting results because we are not able to soften into the tissue work. With Fascial Release work performed by an authentic trained myofasial release therapist, they will yield to the cues that your body gives and work within the pace that your body sets. There will be no use of lotion or gel, and no sliding or gliding over the tissue. Rather, gentle compression and stretch combined to release tissue restrictions for a minimum of 5 minutes. This is when the body releases interleukin 8, a chemical we all have which helps fight against inflammation. The biggest difference is this, what is happening on the inside. Myofascial Release reaches all the way down to the cellular level, whereas massage only addresses the elastin layer, the superficial 20% surface layer of tissue. As a Doctor of PT who specializes in fascial work, I can attest to the science and research behind this approach. For more information, refer to my book: Conquering Mystery Pain: How Myofascial Release Can Help Heal YOU! Also, to find an authentic MFR therapist near you, check this website out, you can search by state. mfrtherapists.com
I just FOUND YOUR CHANNEL. You never realize how much you USE SOMETHING UNTIL YOU HURT IT!!! I have had many accidents and will benefit from this very much!!! Bless you and yours. I am now a new subscriber now. Thank you so much!!! ❤
Myofascial Release and cupping affects the fascia.
Both used in massage therapy
In physiotherapy where I’m from, some are starting to realize that sprains and strains and post-fracture situations all have a fascial element to them. I find ‘myofascial release’ to be useful in the clinic but many professionals don’t even consider it as they lump it together with homeopathy and crystal healing and the like.
So, thanks Sci Show! Because fascia matters
That line after 31:00 is what gave my goosebumps…very true…bt most of us are so delved inside our little lives that we dont even see it..
Very good: Thats completely true. you can ask patient to walk and massage his/her painful parts in the back, this can release fascia
Skillshare is offering SciShow viewers two months of unlimited access to Skillshare for free! Try it here: https://skl.sh/scishow-14
Stupid video, alot of talk, that means nothing, without showing anything…empty words☹
That’s what myofascial release is and what’s what Massage Therapists can do…
I’ve told that my body responds beautifully to any form of holistic healing. I think the main reason why is because when a practitioner is working on me, I tell myself “okay, this is healing my body, this is healing my body” throughout the whole session. And it always works!
Compressing an adhesion and activating the muscle will only work if the adhesion is properly softened beforehand. Otherwise, you can just tear your muscle right next to the adhesion. You really have to use heat first.
Most videos I see of a facial nature are very very different than this one.
We actually can learn everything on fascia from T.Mayers,lol:-) but he also teachs how to release it,you don’t!
WOW, this video is so helpful. Poops sorry was only sarcastic. P
Basically eccentric exercise is an example of asking the fascia to change.
thanks so much for uploading these excellent video’s! please come teach a workshop near Asheville, NC!
Your muscles are the plug, the fascia is the outlet, and the brain is the generator.
LOL at masseuses who think they can “release” your fascia or fascia tension.
Fascia is obviosly very important to movement and orthopedic medicine, but it is also the foundation of aesthetic medicine. As a plastic surgeon I understand that beauty is all about the right amount of fat in the right places, moving in the right way. The Superficial Fascia System controls all this! The breast, for instance is shaped by the SFS and youthful attractive breast have a healthy tensegrity.
I am 55 and beginning to hit the issues Christopher refers to. Stuff just hurts and I feel stiff for no reason. I do a lot of the things they recommend. Stretch when I walk my dog at night, roll with a foam roller and massage balls before going to bed and I really need to get back into yoga. I also feel that moving in and out of positions dynamically rather than static stretching may be important for me ultimately that is what I want to be able to do so I should just do it.
Getting old does suck from this perspective and it is a lot of work to stay mobile.
I do think he was quite disrespectful of Chinese medicine. He has adapted their cupping therapy. He wouldn’t be cupping if he hadn’t been aware of it because of Chinese medicine. He has added a twist and can explain why it works a little better but he has appropriated their therapy and should recognize it.
What a hack lol. If only there wasn’t this moral obstacle I could have the whole world believing whatever I wanted. I don’t think this guy has a moral obstacle, I think he actually believes the nonsense he parrots
Awesome video & channel. Love and gratitude from CDMX México guys.
6:22 I just noticed how interesting the names of the people who produce these videos are, like Bryce Daifuku he must get asked if he likes daifuku a lot.
I’m older, but always loved Rolfing, so i love this video. Thank you, so much, for this.
If you really want to get ripped, you should definitely Google “Oak Muscle Method”. You are guaranteed to end up getting the appearance you merit.
Thanks you just explained more about my connective tissue disorder than any doctor has ever bothered with.
A Remedy Project. What is osteopathy? How can it help with fascia? Is osteopathy what is practiced by my doctor of osteopathy? If so, what do I say to her to get help for my fascia?
Soooo… what you’re saying is it’s like we all have…… Nanomachines son!

Don’t appreciate throwing all massage into one category of it “just feels good”. There are therapists out there that know how to do myofascial release as you just described but I guess we are all only here for “fluff and stuff”. Thanks a lot
Her talking about how fascia would be thrown away reminds me of how the Egyptians did the same with the brain thinking it wasn’t important.
I disagree here. Only by a smidge though haha. Because it really depends on what type of massage you are getting. And the tools do work. It may cause a little soreness or bruising with the tight or painful areas. But it works and some stretching should be done afterwards. With precaution of course.
I mean the tool is an aid. And it helps break up those tissues. Heat also helps. I would like to try cryotherapy and hydrotherapy soon.
all manual methods are applying “external force” to tissue. Even if movement is included.
First of all, what question did you answer answer? What clarity did you bring? And, as a massage therapist, I take issue with your comment that massage is good if you “want to feel all loved-up and relaxed”…wth? I’m sorry, but my training goes waaaay beyond that and my treatments are actually TREATMENTS. Also, fascial release is possible at every level and I would be interested to see what your theory is. You talked about “moving the body” to release fascia. Can you be more specific?
Absolutely misinformed information, she tried tho! But failed
Unfortunately I was on accutane 20 years ago and I have had pain ever since! Especially in my thoracic, shoulders, chest… I practice yoga, meditate, get massages, and even got to a chiropractor… I can’t help but wonder if the acne medication could have caused changes in the fasciae?
Both my grand parents were herbal doctors, I grew up with cupping….but now I know what Asian had derived from the physical manifests such as the resulting markings have nothing to do with toxins, “undesirable dirts”….thank you for disabusing that thousand years old myths. But glad that the crux value of suction cupping stayed in conclusion.
The fascia associated with my rhomboid muscle in my back is always so knotted up due to the fact i have a torn tendon in my shoulder which causes all of this extra weight to go to my rhomboid and then is forced to try and support that extra weight causing all of this tension. Im constantly trying to fix my posture so the rhomboid wont get so tense so quickly or it will start spazzing out so bad it becomes unbearable and i have to stop whatever im doing and find something like a baseball or corner of table to put all of my weight into the trigger points on the fascia and muscle. It literally is so intense when i hit the exact area of the trigger points and bend my back and neck a certain way, i cant control myself and i yell in pain but i know i have to hold it there for a good minute or 2 until it cracks or starts to loosen up and i can tell when i get relief because the endorphins will stop releasing and ill start to feel an achy pain but the muscle and fascia gets softer. Am i done then? Nope i think not. Smh. Now i have to do this pretty much along along right outside of my spine and whole shoulder blade because it seems to move into different areas as im doing all of this. No joke i spend 30 mins 2hours usually everytime i do this and i do it about 5 times a day if its a bad day for my back. Sometimes the endorphins and tension literally never goes away and i get no relief. When i do it really long i wake up so sore the next day with even worse tension and knots. I never knew about fascia but it makes a lot more sense now that i know it cant be permanently changed. I always try to correct my back cause ive also figured out how to crack it at every angle on myself laying down etc.. I now know the only thing i cam do is deal woth it for life which i would idiotic to do knowing i can get surgery to reconnect my labrum in my shoulder which would correct my posture which would in turn take the added weight to my rhomboid muscle and fascia off and completely solve this problem. I know i shouldve had the surgery already but i work a construction type job and the recovery for the operation apparently is around 6 months which doesnt make any sense to me. Im just worried about the damage ive done to my shoulder blade and back by constantly cracking it and applying extreme amounts of pressure to the trigger points to the point i literally scraped my skin up a few times because the endorphins were blocking out the pain it feel so good in a way yet so intense i didnt feel myself cutting my skin. From the corner of a small table i layed on its side and arched my back inton the pointy corner to trigger point. Oh man let let me tell you im already having muscle spasms but once that table corner meets the trigger point where im having spasms i put my full weight slowly into it and the muscles start spazzing uncontrollably and the feeling of this you have to be a certain type of strong to withstand the intensity of this. Its almost like my back is beong electricuted or tazed but imagine a good stretch and the good feeling u get well this is that good feeling x 1000 mixed with a pain. I get such a crazy head rush.. But the worst part is once the endorphins stop and i have to lift myself up the pain is so bad but the tension is gone..in that spot…sorry for the longest run on sentence in history. i like to type fast on my phone and commas and periods waste too much time does anybody know what sort of damage i may have done to my back from trying to get relief over the years? Is surgery the only amswer? Working out seems to be the next best thing that helps the most.
Her point is that massage is just a peice of the pie. Unfortunately if you arent someone in this field, what shes explaining may be counterintuitive to understand about how “temporarily trickable” the nervous system is. No “input” really leads to a lasting output unless theres some sort of active integration of changing how the brain may be programming “tightness” or even chronic pain…amongst other variables of course.
Hi Tom! I just purchased these videos last week, they are awesome. Thank you for putting them together. I’m only through the first 3, but will be watching them HEAPS. Anyone who wants to dive deep, needs to get these videos. Top notch.
Quick question, have you connected with WuJiFa Rick yet? He’s doing some fabulous work, and I suspect you two would really give heaps to each other.
Why show us this video and then not how to give some myofacial release?
Impressive results…you look great & you have shared some great tips. Thanks
I have been getting fascia therapy for 2 years and my posture has changed so much for the better, I recommend this therapy for anyone who has back pain shoulder and neck pain!! I live in Orlando Florida. Joel is amazing !
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
James Cyriax, Davis G. Simons, John Barnes and Janet Travell for decades were sounding the drum of Myofascial pain and dysfunction. Great video. Thank you.
there is but ONE EXPERT on the understanding of FASCIA…IDA P. ROLF…to not be acknowledge by this lady is a great injustice…IMHO!!!!
good, but the real difficulty is that fascia problems often prevent from engaging a particular body part properly. for instance fascia problems after injuries or surgeries. the point is, how to work with fascia in these situations?
Actuall people she hit the nail right on the head…compression and movement in the full range of motion where the problem is. Voodoo flossing also known as compression flossing is the way to do it…. and it really does the job. You will notice a difference after the first few sessions.
Aluminum and Mercury is AlHgO locks up with fat in the body.
medicine should be research based. Critical thinking; the basis for scientific inquiry is the standard by which modern medicine progresses. Massaging fascia may be helpful short or long term in some clients. It may also be harmful. The point is. Without research, we are being negligent. We don’t need to choose medicine OR holistic approaches. When holistic approaches demonstrate effectiveness under the standards of scrutiny required for clinical application, they are validated. Unfortunately, many holistic practices do not hold up under scrutiny and practitioners and believers resort to magical thinking to justify their continued use. There is no need to vilify the establishment. In the interest of enhancing our knowledge and improving patient/client care, we need to be vigilant about recognizing our own biases, and hold our practices to a verifiable objective standard.
The KongFu in ShaoLin know this for 1000 years, ShaoLin kongFu can help you promote your fascias!
Please help.. Lateral itband. Outer knee swelling.. Youre on point. Keep pumping out content.
You’re wrong about massage and you give no alternative anyway
Could you say that all the potential gains from researching it is… Fascianating?
After two decades of living in nearly constant pain, with frequent injuries such as sprains, dislocations, and unidentifiable abnormalities, with very few physical “proof” of my invisible illnesses, I was diagnosed at 24 with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Years later I found a specialist and was diagnosed MCAS and POTS at 34. It is fantastic that fascia is finally getting the attention it is, as conditions like mine are so poorly understood. The triad of conditions; EDS., mast cell activation syndrome, and postural orthostatic hypotension together affect the entire body. I have always intuitively understood that the problems I have physically are only the measurable parts of my conditions and that there are hormonal and chemical problems lurking under the surface. Since those things are difficult to measure or test, maybe testing the fascia could provide more evidence and suggest possible treatments. The source of these is a mutation on the MTHFR gene. I hope that biotech will eventually have solutions to conditions like mine.
I love using these mini lectures in my YIN YOGA trainings..thanks for all!!! So fascinating!
Great presentation. Very informative.
I would like to note that the negative pressure decompression that they speak of and aim to distinguish from traditional Chinese cupping is not so separate. To my knowledge there are a large variety old Chinese cupping techniques that are not only single stationary cups being left. There are movement based cupping techniques that sound just like what they are describing here. Although it has not been studied in quite the same way, what is being talked about here regarding holistic movement, the fascial feedback, kinetic chains, the connection of mobility and pain with the nervous system, etcetera, is a very old science not just in China. Just a little misunderstanding here, but that doesn’t take away from how great of a video and the information shared here is
Try the Bowen technique this is exactly what she is talking about!!
Glad I checked the comments to find that other individuals didn’t fall for this. There are specific techniques for unwinding fascia in MASSAGE. You cannot dismiss all of massage when there are so many different modalities. I have felt with my own two hands, fascia unwind by using myofascial release techniques learned in schooling. Attune your palpation skills before you blindly attempt to discredit what hundreds have personal accounts of. If you don’t listen to the subtleties of what the body is saying then you cannot learn from it. Be quiet, patient, and curious.
I have a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and it’s so nice to be able to send people this video to explain what connective tissue is and what actually goes on in my body. Thank you SciShow! Now you just need to do one on Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome!
Love the presentations! They are very informative. I have one suggestion for the speakers: Stop saying, “Does that make sense?” You are the expert. It should make sense or don’t say it. Asking, “Does that make sense?” sounds weak and lacks confidence.
I wonder if it’s responsible for my restless leg syndrome too.
Hi, how deep this decompression technique can reach? Also, have you ever tested different shapes and sizes of theses decompression “balls” in order to have bigger effect? Thanks
It sounds like you just need to find a decent Massage Therapist. I say that as an actively working MT of 8 years and going
Chinese medicine recognized the fascia 3,000 years ago. Everything is connected. Fascia is such a powerful tool in healing & health.
This can help covid-19 patients due to the severe anxiety and stress. People don’t know better but to take drugs. Sad.
This is so far behind the current scientific evidence. You can’t “release” fascia.
Physical therapy and yoga is helping my issues. I’m working on the diamond in my low back. So grateful there are options and people who understand this system!
Google ehlers danlos syndrome and hypermobilty disorders which
cause damaged fascia and connective tissue in general.undiagnosed neglected common source of chronic pain.
Terribly annoyed when people say that this is a new concept. Eastern medicine, namely Traditional Chinese Medicine knew this for thousands of years. It is only now, Traditional western medical experts are taking notice the the herbs, plants, roots etc.. are key ingredients of pharmaceutical used in the last century. Acupuncture most specifically is what practitioners like to call dry needling today, regenerative medicine such as PrP is the extreme form of this age old practice. Mid-Eastern practitioners have long known the regenerative effects of micro trauma. Western Science are not the purveyors of thsi recent proliferation of midEast Asian medicine
Thank you very much for this video. In your work with athletes, I would like to know to what degree you focus on an athlete’s fascia without taking away their sporting uniqueness ie the “springs” that make them move. Athletes need a certain amount of tension in the body to get them to do their sport. How do you judge how much fascial manipulation is needed and when?
Lots of bla bla bla… go see this dude then that gal, then this one… then… fascia therapy. It’s been around for a Very long time… very long. I know some fascia therapists for 25-30 years!
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
The sad thing Is that this isn’t accesible to everyone… Can que heal the world? Can we live better?
I notice the comments concerning what’s new and not new. The thing is if you learned something it’s new to you. Not everyone knows about this topic so for them it’s, new.
Please where I can found this, 6:18, I talk about a fascia combinaisons. Thnka you.
Omg. This describes me to the tee. My right side pulls down my back is curved and i have multiple shoulder problems including labral tears on both sides and a partial Supraspinatus tear on the right side. My torse is allways tight and retricted
For over ten years I have had back issues and have been seeing specialists and therapists to no avail. The latest was that I had a muscular imbalance that was causing my back pain. Okay. I could live with that, but the issue didn’t go away although it did get better. And then I read an article from John Hopkins Medical that was an epiphany.
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/muscle-pain-it-may-actually-be-your-fascia
Everything that article talks about was about me and my back. I am now on the path to recovery but let me tell you, after 10 years those adhesions do not want to go away gladly. After 1 month, I am making progress and most importantly, the anxiety about not knowing what my problem really was has gone away.
HER YOUTUBE CHANNEL IS MobilityMastery IN THERE SHE SHOWS “FOR FREE” THE HOW TO.
I had an MRI and the doctor told me my fascia has thickened in my low back due to bulging disc and injury. I do all kinds of yoga and QI Movement. I have zero relief? I need help and will try anything? I use rollers and have jacuzzi. By the end of the day I am like an old woman. Have any suggestions? I also get satei shinpo acupuncture.
Fascia is a semi-conductor that carries charge through bundles of muscles. These electrical circuits have been mapped for centuries as the meridian system used in acupuncture. Scars thus can act to short out these circuits. (Healing is Voltage by Dr. Jerry Tennant)
Center for integrative “medicine”? Please… no… University of California is into woowoo?
Almost everything said here that is true of fascia is also even more true of skin. Skin embryologically co-develops with nervous system in the ectoderm, and has many more sensory receptors than fascia. So, MT’s, no need to shorten your careers by mashing people’s fascia. Just do skin stretch and see if you get similar results. Hint: You often will. Fascia is not some magical organ, some missing piece. It is tissue wrapping paper with some innervation. But can you influence it with manual pressure? Probably not much: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18723456
Also, pain comes from the brain, not the exterior, so making this about some specific tissue other than brain tissue is a bit misleading. Of course massage can help, as can other manual therapies. The method can be “true,” even if the explanation is wrong.:)
Thank you Gil. This is beautiful work. Appreciative as it has been over a decade since I was privileged enough to be in lab.
good stuff, nice to see pts/medicine catching up to mts way of thinking
she just described on him the exact way i feel in the same places. i was told i had mild arthritis.
I think that suit kinda over exaggerated the restriction fascia can have
Not that the first Osteopaths knew the importance of fascia over 100 years ago
quackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquackquack… you don’t think? I believe? ya unless your information is concrete and not a guess don’t do a youtube post… cause you look stupid
Doctor to patient, you have 5 mins to tell me your lay person knowledge of complex pain problem. Doctor stops you after 4 mins and types prescription into computer and print out comes out. Doctor on 5 min mark says goodbye. You find out years years of suffering later that Doctor received no lessons on pain management, you also find out the Doctors had no lessons on nutrition. You also find Doctors get no lessons on effects of lack of sleep.
Big pharmacy, runs the medical system. With chronic illnesses we need the holistic treatments. Unfortunately in the west pharmacy makes sure they not recognised or very expensive. In the east natural herbs and physical therapies are used. Doctors give you as long as it takes to find out the big picture. Cause, effect and restoration of balanced mind and body. Pain management, stress reduction, good nutrition and relaxed restorative sleep. Quality water. Regular sunshine and exercise. These are the best natural Doctors in the world. The third leading death in America is Doctors medication. These drugs are powerful and the side effects life threatening.
I wish Sterling had more information about what they actually do or the service provided for the money they ask!
I’m 30 and for the last 4+ years constantly struggling with days were i can’t walk or stand. I had herniated L4-5, bulged L5-S1 discs. They mostly seemed to heal just slightly bulged still.
But severe chronic pain has persisted since. Very messed up imbalances with lower back, abs and hip flexors leading to severe cramps, spasms and weakness.
No obvious cause for it to have continued, most likely cause I have been given is that it is something neurologically.
I swim in the warmer months (that helps usually for that day) I have been following different physio programs, and attempt yoga.
I stay as active as I physically can, though it is not enough.
I’ve tried some eastern medicine approaches like acupuncture with no lasting effects.
As I can’t work anymore spending large amounts of money on nothing but testimonials and a salesmen type pitch is not something I will do again.
I predict that in a few years, they are gonna discover that a lot of “parts” we now call fascia, are diferent things. But the cientist comunity, are gonna call It “fascia-something”; like for ex “fascia espaldar” or “mechanic-fascia” vs “sensory-fascia”, and Its constitution is more like a non newtonian fluid. Also they are going to make products especifictly for the fascia, and new diciplines are going to born for the fascia… like “fascia puncture” or “fascia massage”. They are going to invent drugs that can increase the collagens, and increase the conductivity in It, allowing to identify the pain more accurately. Also, they are going to use the fascia as a conduct and posibly a form of reserve for genetic manipulations. Wen (or if) nanotechnology becomes a reality, fascia is going to be the “higway”, more so that the spine. Cosmetics will be made from the fascia of pigs, and a narrow link between fascia and placenta will became obvious. Hahahaha, I have cero facts to back all this predictions, but It was funny to dream.

I have a condition called Elhers Danlos Syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder a genetic problem with the fascia! Thank you for introducing this concept! The pain for my condition is extreme and I have many multisystemic issues with my organs too requiring a feeding tube, suprapubic catheter etc.
check out myofascialrelease.com He has been treating the fascia for over 50 years and teaching it to therapists all over the country for over 40 years. Fascia may be new to scientists but not for us!!
12:34 Each tissue layer needs fluid between them. Important things: Hydration, Sleep, Nutrition, MOVEMENT. If you don’t move this fluid gets sticky and doesn’t allow the layers to move freely.
43:00 When you have pain in one area/muscle think about the areas/muscles on that line and treat/stretch/strengthen them as well. Everything is connected.
50:30 Crossed Syndrome. Strengthen throat, massage neck, strengthen back, stretch chest, stretch hip flexors.
55:00 People tend to close into a fetal position. To counter this do the opposite and open up your body. Tuck chin, open the chest, open the arms and be happy.
1:02:25 Proof of concept MRI on Cupping (the only thing that pulls on layers and not pushing, creating space between tissue layers, negative pressure)

I have freakish severe fibromyalgia and I have been a guinea pig for docs. Myofacial (sp) can be very very nasty. You are stiff and in pain can’t stay in one position for too long can’t overexercise without big consequences and we get a lot of issues with fascia often like plantar fasciitis and issues with fascia near joints etc. I am really looking forward to more in depth research on the topic and I hope anyone else suffering out there knows research is ardent and ongoing and not just done by big greedy pharma that just wants to subdue symptoms pill by pill.
Thank you for covering this and mentioning fibromyalgiait is good to get the word out that this is a serious illness.
hello from mexico thanks bro iam learn a lot in this video
Right massage therapy can fix Pinched nerve condition in few minutes. No doctor, no surgery, no hospitalization, no medicine and no loss of work is needed.
I have never commented on a YouTube video before but, felt obligated to do so here. I got on to possibly pickup extra tips for a new client coming in for a Medical Massage session. He received aggressive radiation treatment for throat cancer, and subsequently developed fibrosis syndrome that is greatly impeding his ability to swallow food. He was told by someone that myofascial release therapy might help him. Although he was quite skeptical, (perhaps he saw your video) his wife, a long time client of mine, convinced him to book an appointment. I have been incorporating myofascial release into my massage sessions for 9 years. It is my “bread n butter” so to speak. I have felt many releases under my hands. Many of my clients have experienced “miraculous” relief from pain. Yes, not every session produces noticeable results and yes, our fascia is and needs to have super human strength, able to withstand 1000s of pounds of pressure per square inch. The “magic” happens when the therapist is able to connect with the client’s vibration and gently engage the fascia, holding it with a precise stretch and patiently moving with the releases. No elbows required. it’s called thixotropy.
I assume you have good intentions posting this video but, to negate the good work of thousands of dedicated therapists, with a smile, is quite offensive to me. Our industry has the on-going challenge of converting the concept that massage therapy is solely to, in your words, feel good for an hour or so. We constantly have to raise the bar of professionalism in order to earn our due respect as practitioners of effective health therapies. If your video convinces one person from possibly experiencing therapy that could improve their quality of life, then you are doing a great disservice to people that I believe you are attempting to help. And btw, that technique you are promoting, is a massage therapy certification. It’s called Active Release Technique. On behalf of the Health and Wellness community, please TAKE THIS VIDEO DOWN.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing knowledge. You’re helping a lot of people there!
Ok….so what exactly are we supposed to do to help the fascia…????
I really like your approach with the reflections in nature. Nicely done. Thank you
Thank you for share this amazing information and making it so simple to understand!
Absolutely fascinating and presented in a very visual, simple, entertaining way. I am buying the webinar!
MD’s are the only Medical people who pretend to state that this is new and (that this she they) have some miraculous news.. WHEN DO’s and PT’s learned the basics and simplicity of this tensegrity system and how to fix and discuss the intricacies 100’s of years prior.. it’s the MD’s who chose to stick their head in the sand and ignore the knowledge. Bcuz it wasn’t “THEIR” Almighty ignorant curriculum.
I am experiencing this pain today, seeing a great chiropractor. You have explained what needs to happen to alleviate my extreme pain.. Thank you so much for clarifying this condition for me!
Develop some issues…. I have eds yeah I’d say it causes some issues. Connective tissue problems effect everything.
Thai massage and Shiatsu work because they are based in the 12 meridian (electromagnetic path) system. The energy flows, fascia releases when one knows keypoints on the meridian systems. Trigger point therapy is like a ‘western’ version of using the meridians. This might be what she is trying to explain not knowing about meridians or just not thinking people would understand.
sorry for my very high ignorance and the stupid question but ist fascia present in the goat too
??
This is very interesting. Here is one more point of view that can speed up the elimination of chronic pain. The fascia tissue, derived from the mesoderm, is distributed in all parts of the human body. It consists of connective tissues and guess what, stem cells.
In addition, much of the research relevant to fascia tissue has focused on adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), which mainly exist in adipose tissues. I tell you this because the more we age the more stem cells go dormant and in turn pain becomes chronic because metabolic waste and inflammation has become stagnate.
One solution is to use a new stem cell technology patch that will awaken dormant stem cells naturally.

‘The pain went away immediately’
The patches work great, the first 2 times I put the patches below my belly button, and it took a while about 1 to 2 hours before I noticed a difference, the pain level went down to about 2, then I changed and placed the patch on my sore spot, the pain went away immediately. Today my 4th patch, same on my sore spot, and went to karate, I did not notice any pain at all, for karate, the hip is the most important part of your body, because every move starts from the hip. G
‘The pain finally went away with this Patch
I’ve been in Europe on a biking tour (270 miles) from Prague to Budapest. Just got back last week. I have had lower back/hip issues since last Thanksgiving and have had adjustments to prolozone injections which helped improve up to 60%. The lingering pain finally went away adding this patch within two weeks. I was concerned how my back was going to get during the biking trip and it didn’t bother me at all other than tightness. It was one of our favorite trips. So I was really happy I didn’t have back/hip issues. CHRISTINE TESSEREAU
‘The effect is almost a miracle!’
I hurt my lower back which also caused pain in one leg. It’s the most painful experience I’ve ever had. For the past several months I’ve had cortisone injections and physical therapy which have helped somewhat although I still was unable to walk normally. As soon as I started using the patch the pain went down almost immediately, and I was able to walk again without limping. I don’t want to exaggerate but the effect is almost a miracle!
