What Is a Pilates Reformer? The reformer was invented by Pilates founder Joseph Pilates. It is a bed-like frame with a flat platform on it, called the carriage, which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame.

Thanks so much for this. I loved it. Your voice and teaching are so calming and informative. I have done my teacher training on the reformer but have struggled to find any classes here in the UK where I live so I can’t practice unless I just use my manual and then it’s stop start with no flow which is very frustrating. This is the perfect way to get to do a class remotely and it’s a lovely flow. I feel stretched and lengthened, strong and aligned!
WOW! Since COVID-19 we have not been able to go to the gym. For the price of a year’s membership for 2 two my husband and I just got our Aero Pilates machine from Target. Today was my first day with it and boy was this the workout I was looking for. The only thing that’s missing is having the box. I’ll have to modify it till my husband can get me a box or build me one. Thank you! I’ll keep doing this class till I master it.

This was great, I enjoyed having this longer, slower video to learn from. I appreciate the details you teach with reminders for spine position, neck, etc. I have many body issues, cakes and pains and have Pilates for years for PT. I need to pay attention to all of the details so I don’t further injure myself. Thank you again for all of your videos. I will do this many times to learn and benefit from. I can’t do all of the exercises, some are too difficult, so I end up doing maybe the first step that you show us and over time I may be able to progress. Your videos are like class sessions which is necessary for me. Thank you again. I may end up at some point subscribing to your website programs. For now, the ones you offer here are perfect.

Any thoughts? Given that I am a beginner and very stiff muscles I need to start with an inexpensive unit before I can justify “the real deal”. I’m just concerned that the reformer I have is too old.
I love your attention to detail!!! Your words really create a visual in my mind. I recently acquired an old reformer, it has ropes instead of bands and springs. It is not very smooth and very difficult to change the position of the handles. I can see now why it was given away but I hoped it would work. I am missing the smooth glide of a professional reformer I used when I first took a few classes a few years ago. Don’t quite know what to do. I am guessing whatever movement I can do is better than nothing.

Hi John. Just wanted to say that I’m am a huge fan and user of JG TV! I just completed the 6 week Intermediate Reformer Series with you and Patty (and Bam Bam). I LOVED the series, and Patty was so great. Please tell her for me? Her spring settings were perfect for me. I also love that the spring settings are highlighted on-screen briefly so we don’t miss it. Hope you’re enjoying the Chicago area weather (that was sarcasm…I grew up there). I love your scenic background now. My Pilates trainer moved out of California (she trained with you), and she’s left me to fend for myself now. But I have my trusty JG TV to keep me strong and flexible. Thanks for all the great workouts. I’m always a sweaty mess afterwards!

This is great, I have a mini reformer (PPG) that I got used to keep active these days and I have been searching for reformer workouts that I am able to only slightly adapt to it. This fits the bill, the pace is perfect and your cueing is consistent!

Just used my new reformer with this class (after 6mths in studio lessons) and loved it!!
I have been doing this great workout every morning since June 16 and feel that it is the best workout for me to follow and enjoy. Robin is great about the pace, instruction, and love the warm up. My back is so stiff in the morning that it just helps to relax my muscles. Oh and I have lost inches as well as the pounds since working out with Robin.
maybe it s better also make some 30 min workouts on reformer and cadiilac for beginners..also my strings has colours and two of the has not, pls write below which springs do u use while the pose..thank u so muh… highly appritiate

One little thing though I have the video volume turned all the way up and the sound turned all the way up on my computer to be able to hear your commands on my reformer from my laptop. This was such a wonderful intermediate workout! There are not many intermediate reformer workouts on U-Tube so I really appreciated this. There were a few exercises that were challenging for me but I look forward to working out with you John so those challenging exercises will get easier and easier. Again this workout is really great!

Really enjoyed this. I have a chronic health condition so have to play at 0.75 speed to make room for all the breathing and pauses I need, but hopefully with repetition I’ll get to normal speed someday!:D

This is also my favourite youtube workout. I love the fact that you consistently remind us to keep shoulders down, tummy pulled in, etc. Do you have, or can you make a more strenuous reformer workout that only uses the reformer-no blocks, balls or poles? I have a very basic reformer by AerooPilates that has four cords, all black, no pegs, only shoulder rests that also act as strap rests.Works great, just no accessories.

WOW I LOVE THIS VIDEO! so I bought a reformer due to covid-19 and still wanted a classic lesson. Honestly, it feels like Robin is right there, helping me along the way. That was great! I am new to Pilates, I have an AeroPilates 5006 (?). I’ve been exploring Youtube for instruction. I have just consulted with my sports doctor about my right soas, my right knee, my right foot, and even my right thumb, because of pain, falls, balance issues. I also ride a roadbike and try to put in 100 miles or so a week on it, with hills and traffic situations to keep me on my toes. I see this is from 2016, so I am going to see if you have more. Mahalo!

So glad I found this workout it’s great for daily workout and not too long. It keeps moving at a pace in which you can follow by listening. Can’t wait to see others.

Hi Robin I have a reformer at home but it flat to the floor how would i convert the exercise where you have 1 foot in the floor please. Great workout too

1. My Aero Pilates does not have colored springs. 2. Do you always exhale on the extensions and inhale on the contractions opposite of yoga?

I love this workout! Im doing it on average 2-3 times a week…love it…. But would love some more options similar to this one, just to mix it up a bit. And maybe do more pilates. Love the reformer! Please make more videos like this one:-) xx

Great detailed instructions Nell, but I am having trouble with figuring out which springs to use for the exercises because the Balanced Body Allegro reformer I’m using has yellow, blue, green and red springs so when I see 2.5 to 3 springs I am asking of which combination of colors? Is there anywhere that you have suggestions posted on what the equivalent would be for a machine that is equipped with multiple strengths of springs?
Have tried many of the reformer workouts on you tube since my gym closed due to covid 19 and this one is by far the best for being able to hear, not to quick or too slow and great cues and instructions. Would love for you to post more reformer workouts on you tube in the 30-45 minute range. I need variety in my workouts or get bored! This has saved me during the stay at home!

I loved this short but powerful flow! Wow. I am properly out of breath. I loved that this felt so dynamic and cardio which is a little different for the reformer. more of these please between 20 and 40 minutes long! LOVED IT! Fantastic workout! Efficient and got my heart going thighs are still sore post workout and it’s the second round in the past 10 days, trying to perfect the last two moves. Please share more of your efficient workouts with cardio in the end for that fat burn

Hi April, just did this workout again and I noticed that the sequence doing the mermaid with the arm straps was only done on one side in the video and then went into leg stretch, so I just stopped vid and did the sequence on the other side and completed the rest of this awesome workout and now I am ready for my day and looking foward to the next ones.
I really enjoy your classes and have done many of them however this one is my favorite by far! Simple choreography, but not easy! Thank you so much!
