Great job.
Just wanted to say that you look like a caucasian version of Bruce Lee with Stephen Hawking’s voice:).
Funny and inspirational, keep it up!!!
I bought a pull-up bar $50, resistance bands $50, abs wheel $35, push-up bar $30, and a dip bar $130.
I am buying 2 pairs of dumbbells to use them w/my resistance bands.
I don’t need more….
In the last 6 weeks my body changed just using my bodyweight.
MAYBE I’ll buy adjustable dumbbells (Optional for me).
That’s it.
Where does a bodybuilders style gym that isn’t as rammed and has a load more strength equipment fit into this argument?
What has being bald got to do with being fit? Was agreeing somewhat up until that point!
I’ve been wondering, once you have a home gym but for some reason you have to move to another city or even another country, what you do? is there a way to move things as heavy as kettlebells, dumbells or even barbells and plates???
Number one reason to own a home gym? Personal preference. That’s more than enough.
wat about hardcore gyms? much better than the usual commercial gyms lol
Suddenly a home gym isn’t that bad of an idea after all, lol.
Great video. Do you have a recommendation for a home gym? Hoping for an all in 1 that’s simple and easy to get started with.
Nice content!! Keep up the good work. You should look into using smzeus!!! Loads of YouTube channels use the site to promote their videos.
another great video and I’m happy to say we’re from the same generation, working the iron staying youthful
So im just getting back into working out again after a couple years and i need help. Do you have any recommendations about programs i can find anywhere
I workout at home and I have always preferred it to a gym. I’ve had good gym experiences but for me I like the privacy and the no waiting for my squat rack. Plus I can WO whenever I want without worrying about travel time adding to the mix. I have a Squat rack, A solid bench that can Incline. Adjustable DB’s 2 bars. a Horizontal Leg Press machine a Roman chair/Back Ext and reverse hyper. I built a nice platform from sub flooring and I put stall mats down. My garage gym is separate from my house. I can also listen to whatever I want without other background noise…and ultimately I’m happily anti-social when I WO so again I don’t have to worry about offending anyone because I prefer not to talk. I let phone calls go to message just like you do…I don’t answer the door…because I can’t hear it in my garage….but the biggest advantage is of course curling in my squat rack with just the bar ;-)…
I will add, I think for most a commercial gym is the best place…not everyone can stay motivated at home or have the $$$ to put together a good quality home gym when you can get a membership for $30 a month and access to all the equipment you’ll ever need.
I think you’ve done pretty well natural
Great setup too.
Looking to build a home gym Myself in the new yr.
Being a welder, I’ll be fabricating a quality power rack, similar to the rogue.
Can’t argue with the mathematics about cost and time saved. Wish I lived in a house some day with enough space for a home gym. In the meantime I’m in a shared apartment in NYC…
For some, going to the gym is about training with friends, chatting to attractive people, or showing off. Basically socialising. For me personally, I can get quite lonely. While I don’t talk to anyone at the gym usually, just being around people who have similar goals as me is great for my mental health. A staff member saying, “Hi, Dan, enjoy your session”, really motivates me.
Here in Ireland, our homes are small. If you have space for a gym, you’re not just middle class, you’re upper class. Houses are significantly smaller here. We don’t have basements like so many from the States seem to do, or huge garages. We have flats, small bungalows, terrace houses, etc.
Many leisure centres are poorly equipped and you can struggle to find the equipment you need, but most ‘iron’ gyms have enough equipment to share. If you train at hours that are less busy (I train between 2 and 5pm and have only ever had to wait for equipment a few times in the last year) you should be fine, even if you’re supersetting. There are also sports clubs that are owned by the local council and they let their facilities out to trainees for a small fee. They usually are poorly equipped, but they at least allow you and a friend to invest in some plates and store/use them there.
Reselling equipment is not easy here in Ireland due to the small amount of people.
I and most others don’t have the needed startup cash to afford the equipment that would be necessary. It doesn’t matter whether you buy used or not, investing in the equipment is a burden that’ll take a long time to ‘pay off’. And during that time, if you get an injury, if family responsibilities sap you of energy, if financial troubles force you to sell your equipment, that’s it, it’s over.
I do see where you’re coming from, but for the vast majority of UK/EU residents, I don’t see a home gym being practical or viable.
Of course we need to keep in mind why a lot of people go to these gyms. It really is more for socializing, hanging out. If one is serious about working out it would definitely be a frustrating experience.
Hey thanks for the inspiration about home gyms. I’m tired of monthly/annual payments for a gym. I’m working towards my own home gym now.
This is definitely a very situational view. When I was a lot heavier and fatter I definitely couldnt have gone to a commercial gym because I wouldnt have been able to spend enough time at the gym each trip for me to benefit from it and also be time efficient. I bought some barbells and used my old trampoline frame as a pullup bar, started with calisthetics and I left my barbells outside my bedroom door so that every time I left or came to my bedroom Id do some reps. Having a Gym membership also makes you a lot more likely to be dedicated to working out because of all the new information you take in when youre at a gym setting compared to home. Our brains thrive off of novelty, Im not gonna meet anyone new or feel like I have an obligation to keep up if im gonna be working out at home
Very, very good video. As you always mention, everyone is different and will have different needs.
Craigslist and other sale sites and publications are a great place to start building a home gym. If you buy it on craigslist, you can sell it on craigslist. This allows the home gym to change and adapt to the owners needs at any time. Whereas a public gym will change only as the owner finds it necessary.
Safety is another thing that should be considered when putting together a home gym routine. Anything that may require a spotter or that can be unsafe, should be taken into consideration when buying equipment for home training. If the equipment to be safe is not available or can not be afforded yet, then that part of the routine maybe best left to go to the public gym.
Thanks for the great videos.
Lee I wanted to make you a question? If supplement company’s or drug store company’s wanted to create a supplement that is not steroid but function like steroid would they hale done it or not. Or lets say do you think that seance has ability to create a supplement that doesn’t create a steroid effect but is better than steroid. Do you think that company’s can create a supplement that makes you to have gains in natural way better than in not natural way.
For some reason. I get a massive pump when I go to the gym but when I workout at home the pump is just okay and I’m not as sore the following days. The soreness I get from a gym makes my muscles extremely tight and hard making me feel like I will tear them if I stretch my arm or chest the wrong way. I never understood what was going on in the gym vs at home. Matter of fact I seem to get a better pump anywhere except at home. I could go down to a neighbors house and get a better pump than I do at home. I think something psychological is going on.
If I actually could afford a home gym setup, I would be able to continue my Certified Fitness Training journey while saving my clients a LOT of money. I’d make money and they’d save money. Win-win situation. But I can’t afford to rent an air conditioned indoor storage room or any of the equipment.
i want to gain more muscle on my legs and ass, i have been working out almost everyday for 2 months at home. i use resistance bands and weights + ankle weights. it’s hard for me because i’m thin and hard to put on weight with food. the gym is so far away from my house and very expensive to go there everyday. i’m unsure if i should go to gym or keep doing it at home?
The only problem i have with starting a home gym is the lack of women to check out. You make a lot of really good points, though. Thanks for giving us something to consider.
I agree with you brother. I do my mobility training, stretching, ab workouts, resistance band training and other jump training at home as I’m training to dunk again and play pro ball. Saved me so much time, made my workouts more consistent and allowed me to train at any time of the day. This was huge since my Wife and I just had our baby boy. But for those of us without weights at home and certain equipment we need to hit the gym. Plus the atmosphere in a gym is something you can’t really get at home by yourself.
I have no problem working out at home and getting great results and nobody else should that is dedicated and motivated.
Great point man before I was a powerlifter competing only in amateur bodybuilding I developed my physique using home workouts placing in shows but now I am more on powerlifting stuff I really need the gym to hit high numbers. Because of this quarantine I am going back to working out home just looking good never minding the numbers. For me looking good is a lot more better than just being strong.
Respectfully, for time & convenience you can’t beat calisthenics & other bodyweight training
Thank you so much for this explanation.
This helped a lot. I’ve always wondered if I could get some results doing workouts at home, now I know the answer.
Thank you
I’m a pt and I completely agree, you don’t need to go to a gym to workout
. I actually found I workout better at home Great video
yea i agree you can do two splits to work out your upper body and lower body properly with a home gym
Haha, it helps me to make my voice louder. It’s actually a good technique for that.
I can close heavy grip 200lbs for one rep for how much time I should stick with it? I am using this gripper for a month tell me should I invest in heavy grip 250lbs now or wait for a month?
I want to go to the gym to lose 50 pounds because running 12k a week isnt helping me much
Then after that i can just focus on running, yoga and swimming, which is super cheap in my country because its sunny all year round
So do you recommend i go get in shape at the gym, then quit after that and do the other stuff?
Lol this guy must be the real definition of immobility lol train the muscles not the joints. Boy ok when you grow the chair is waiting
For years I’ve been teaching myself which routines work for me and I think I have finally found it. Of course right when I find it my sister gets a gym membership. Trying to convince her to work out with me.
I stopped my membership few months ago. Used that money to buy a couple set of bars. Should have done this a long ago.
I just want to stay healthy. You know what programmers’ problem are. And yes the muscles grow too. Not because I go to gym, but because I lift something.
Like u said, if you wanna be a great power lifter or you need friend to do this. It’s not a solution for u
Thank you that was very helpful it really opened my eyes in needing a gym membership vs having the determination to just workout at home.
I know public gym more complite but in home gym you no need to share or distrating by rude bulk man.
I bought a pull-up bar $50, resistance bands $50, abs wheel $35, push-up bar $30, and a dip bar $130.
I don’t need more….
Maybe I buy adjustable dumbbells or just 2 pais of dumbbells to use them with the resistance bands. (Optional for me)
I def prefer home gym, but its wayyyyyy more expensive than gym membership. My bench only is worth the same rate as my yearly membership lol
Public gym here…..because it’s like you doing you and no one is not there to bother you
I agree with you completely I’m a girl i have my “home gym” too and i love it
Both. I use Planet Ifness because it’s really close to my house, $10 buck a month, open 24 hrs. I’m in my 60’s, retired Marine getting back into exercising ( not yet a workout. There’s a difference). I do a few barbell exercises at home and I go to the Ifness to do exercises I can’t do at home. If I stick to my routine and get the workout bug I pass a military base daily so I’ll start working out on base (free) if I get back to WORKING OUT. I have friends that have high end gym memberships that allow guests. I’ve been fairly active my entire life. I have a host of ways to exercises. I’m over 60 in somewhat fit condition and my biggest physical challenge is being able to play 18 holes of golf.
I hate commuting to the gym. Now I can just walk downstairs to my home gym. Makes me use it more often.
Home gym for sure. Don’t forget catching a virus, egos and work schedule causes you not to go to gym for long while, yet your still making payments.
Your barbell is extremely small you should get a 45 pound Olympic bar
The amount of money it takes to set up a LEGIT home gym could buy you YEARS worth of a gym membership. But it’s good to have a very MINIMAL set up in your garage just in case u can’t make it to the gym. A few dumbbells and a bench should be fine.
Home gym for sure, no waiting for people to get off equipment, you don’t need to have your own music equipment (headphones/phone) you can jam anything you want at home, you can lift anytime of the day, no matter the time, and finally you can literally workout naked.
Also, if you’re going to the gym to socialize or require other people to “motivate” you, you shouldn’t be at the gym
i don’t have a room so i sleep in the living room and i find it hard to do my workouts so it’s a gym membership for me
Great video. Yes, the main benefit of a gym membership is the social and networking aspect.
I’ve found going to the gym is kinda hard after work. Maybe just buying some weights and making my own routine could really work? All I need is a good 30 minutes before bed every night or at least every-other.
I dont like gyms I get anxiety going to places with people rather workout at home.
I do pilates and HIIT at home.. I already a ideal body so I just want to maintain what I already have
If you’re starting out how much weight should you start lifting at home before you go to the gym
how should beginners start off? I am currently weighing 131 pounds. I haven’t lifted weights since I graduated HS last July.. I am Definitely wanting to get back started an finish where I left off but idk where to start. I am wanting to gain more weight in my thighs but with JUST a bit of muscle and strengthen my arm muscles and back muscles.. (I want to keep my bottom & it’s curve) I have watched a few of your videos where you’ve explained that it’ is highly important to eat higher calories while working out as well.. honestly I am too afraid to start my work outs in a gym. Do you think what I am wanting to achieve I can start off at home? Will I need to drink the protein shakes & eat the healthy meals I see you prep? Are there any equipment I’ll need to purchase in order to receive these particular results?
Does it matter if I live in Syria and I signed up? and btw ur workouts r so useful!!
Both an elliptical for home & seriously you save so much money. The gym is kinda disgusting, everyones sweat be all over lol
Could u list some good weights from Amazon for strength training?
I am a stay at home mom and days when I cant go to the gym I just workout at home and I have gotten great results!
Just curious… Are u drunk in this video? If yes Respect from Russia then!
Wear whatever you want or nothing at all…
Im a home gym owner, i have built up a nice collection of equipment, high-speed treadmill with power Incline, rowing machine, punch bag, pull upbar, Incline/flat bench, 4 different types of barbells and a ez curl bar, around 300kg of weight and a selection of dumbells. Also a big wall mounted tv with Internet connection and a soundbar. Only thing im really lacking is a cable cross machine. I working strength / conditioning 7 days a week and the convenience is why i do it. Plus i like to train alone high intensity without the chit chat!! Its all good
When I’m at the gym, all I see is out of shape guys on their phones.
And chicks taking pictures of themselves in the mirror in their active wear…
Cold doesn’t bother me. I got this thing called “space heater”. It’s the hot humid summer that gets to me because there is no efficient way to cool my home gym. Buying your own gym equipment in the long run is cheaper than gym membership which is run by unscrupulous companies. You can workout anytime you want, never having to trade body fluid with strangers, never have to wait in line or wait for the gym to fix (if ever) a broken exercise equipment, or deal with their bureaucracy when it comes time to cancel your membership.
After six months not working out due to a lot of things, I prefer to get back to workouts at home, I feel too bad to my usual gym. After some time, not defined yet, I plan going back to the actual gym though, it’s easier than do absolutely everything with dumbbells as I do at home.
The home gyms are nice. But one’s got to have the motivation to go along with it. Being that it’s close to the bedroom, I tend to go straight to sleep after a 12-16 hour shift. Going to a gym on the other hand gives me some place to go and the drive to get something done while I’m in there. However, big, chain gyms in big cities are much better for me than the small town ones I got to deal with right now. Bigger gym has the pool/hot tub, and less people bugging. Small town gym gets a little antagonistic what with the smaller space and small town mentality.
Guess I’ll be hitting my own crude setup again to get healthy until I make my way out of the sticks again.
lol it started at like 200 buks for me and has quickly gone up well over 800 bucks in a matter of a couple months. Fukin worth it tho
what did you do to get those bigger upper body, did you work with chest alot
the first guy i see that does his workout at home and have a body that looks like workout. all other guys on youtube you have there workout things at home doesnt even look like they working out.
u need better form on pull-ups. ur back and abs show that u dont pull evenly. fixing it now would save u a bit of trouble in long run heh…o this 4 years ago heh
If you can manage to drop below 4.5 percent body fat, it is flat out too cold at a public gym. It becomes an issue at around 6-7 percent,
I respectfully disagree that you can´t get the socialization part on a home gym, all you have to do is call a friend over.
But nobody seems to mind when I wear a plunger on my head to the gym… They always seem so happy to see me.
Here, from Argentina. Lol. This video is very funny and is all truth! Im starting my home gym, buying used machines from professional gyms. One this month. Next month buy other. And its great.
the big reasons are convenience, not having to share or wait for a machine. you always get those gym rats that want to sit there and talk forever and frankly i dont want to talk to some of them which just makes your workout longer. you can also listen to any music you want wear anything you want and have a tv or computer set up and watch and do what you want. there is also an ego thing and that isnt there when you can workout alone. you also have cost and its just not cost for membership its the cost to get to and from there. from home to gym and back.
home gym beats public gym any day of the week for so many reasons i can write a book.
Home Workouts > Gym. If you have 1600 you can have a nice home gym setup with everything you’ll need.
One big thing that keeps me away from commercial gyms is, all the sweat on the equipment.
I think it’s best to buy more expensive equipment with lifetime warranties, you will save a hell of a lot more in the long run.
all u ever need at home is a bench thats comfortable and weight plates and some bars,so thats a £20 used bench, mixtures of bars and weights £50 used, and some mats,so that will pay off 3 gym monthly payments
thanks for your videos i enjoy them i watch them in my home gym i just turned 60 and i am still training
I’m building my own home gym cause the money and time is just on the back of my room great location and i don’t have to wait for somebody to get off the power rack.
lol… Hilarious but on point! Appreciate the effort. Cheers Jerome. (Liked&Subscribed!)
Would you be able to build muscle using heavy resistance bands or not really?
My only problem with home gyms is one: Commitment.
When Im training at home I feel like Im…home.
In a public gym I feel like Im in a place build to workout, with iron stuff and sweat smell all over the place. It feels more hardcore and changes my mindset to beastmode.
For me a home gym is the way to go! I work out in the mornings when I have the best energy. I get up early before anyone else. have my cup of coffee and hit my home gym. It helps me start my day off on a positive note and gets the happy endorphins going in my head. But what ever works for you is best.
I can’t afford a gym membership or even a d cent home gym, so I have a Total Gym that was given to me, a 17lbs weight set and some bands I bought at Walmart, and just as importantly, a training course and diet program from Lee Hayward. I have to modify some of the exercises to the equipment I have, but it works.
Agreed. a month before the pandemic I canceled my gym membership and started working out at home. Im a business owner and just the fact that I had to drive for 20 minutes get to the gym, put me behind the things I had to get done each day. Now I wake up at 5am, workout, and then I can only focus on the other important things. I don’t think Ill ever have a gym membership again.
about wether… i’m live at brazil hahaha its amazing here ( the only one thing….)
i usually do my home workouts in a bathrobe/house coat then run around the house pretending to be a ninja.
Distractions aside,I prefer home workouts due to once I pay for the equipment it’s mine,I don’t have to pay an outrageous monthly fee for basically little to no service
i prefere my public gym for the siple reason that all my gym bros go there to and we are like a little family helping eachother in getting stronger.
Decent video man Respect!
I just started working out myself on my way to 200 kg squat 3 x 5 within two years!
Cheers
What do you consider the long term? if i build a home gym i will be using it for over a year(1.5) years. Is it worth the investment? I also have to buy brand new because where i live, there are no 2nd hand gym equipment for sale. thanks!
You sound like Stephen Hawkin’s little computer. Ha. Great video though. Thank you
That varies and it’s really not important for you to know. It won’t help you with anything.
If you already have dumbbells and a pull up bar I would see what you like best. Things you would also need if you’re going to take it really serious are a squat rack, barbell and bench. A dipping station or a squat rack / dip station combo would be great to have.
dude im getting some equipment next month. what do you recommend me? I’ve got dumbbells and a pull up bar
I hesitate to get an home gym, I’m not very sociable, so I go to the gym at 3h in the morning to be quiet. Maybe, I would be happy to stay at home sometime, because the gym is a little bit far from me.
Just found you brotha even tho this video is old I love what you do man got my sub.
hey, goeie vids man! Waar heb jij jouw halterschijven gekocht? Alvast bedankt!
Yes, probably, but my gym isn’t that big. You probably think it’s bigger as that’s what it looks like on camera. However, the bar I use is only 1,67 m and it is sometimes difficult to keep it from bouncing against other objects.
Awesome video, btw, if you buy a closed power reck for your own place, you can forget about the safety problems, and not being able to lift max
at first I used the Community gym it worked out fine commercial gym did not work out now i do the home gym other gyms were a great start almost finished my physique but I still need use the treadmill. Community gym or commercial gym I don’t want to pay electricity bill on a treadmill running outside there’s too distractions
Thanks, the video I’ll upload today is also going to be funny!
For me, I just need a bench, a rack, a bar, some weights, and im all set.
Do you ever do stomach vacuum exercises? I have never seen you do that, but I thought it was a bodybuilder staple (perhaps not anymore with the steroid and insulin belly being prevalent in unregulated competitions). Where do you stand on this?
I’ve been training at home for 45 years. No motivation problems, just tendon issues slow me down. Tried everything for that. Just Woody Allen genetics i think
Hell now that I think about it I could become a fitness bum. I’m moving into Planet Ifness for $10 a month.
Good video, didn’t see one complete rep though. Just a bunch of quarter reps
… When you watch Jason’s new video and think that he made it especially for you
Great video. I usually work out at home gym. But I still go to the gym sometimes.
just to prove that horrible technique works for some…. maybe genetics!!!
At home gym, I can do all sorts of weird exercises. I can throw weights, I can play music of my taste, I don’t have to wait.
Nah, having a Home Gym is WAAAY better than an official gym that you have to waste money paying for. A lot of these “cons” to having a home gym are completely irrelevant. The gym is not a social hangout area btw, it is a place to get some training done.
You can’t do your GF in the gym, but in your home gym sexersize is great
Love the cat.
I’m ghetto training at the moment outside
Come wind rain or shine.
Until the new yr,
Building a home gym in My garden.
My cat hangs around too when I’m training.
And your still a D-bag. Still remember the day I met you…pffft And gyms dont need dudes like you.
One con about garage gym, if you do heavy benching by yourself while your wife is away, nobody can hear your trachea throat snap in two. You better teach your dog how to spot you.
I literally could never get myself to go consistently to a public gym. The driving back and forth, anticipation before and all the ego douche bags, you’re focus is so limited as you don’t want to make weird faces or get dirty looks for taking 3 minute strength training rest breaks.
Squat rack at home if one has room for it is a GAME changer especially for people who are repulsed by gyms.
Adjustable dumbells, Olympic weights and Olympic barbell, ez bar curl, pull up bar, dip station and adjustable bench is all I need. My workout time has cut by 20 minutes and my intensity is up. BEST decision I’ve ever made gallant. Also I can fart and throw weights. I feel more motivated working out at home than at the gym.
I like my home gym becouse I can save money, get the hard workout done sooner, and spend time with my lovely wife.
I would never have thought about working out at home but with the current situation I ve had to become more creative in working out my dilemma is now do I need the gym should I go back to it when things go back to normal tttt you still pick up other bugs from the gym might go for training and running in the park etc but do miss my spin classes and think peloton is too expensive and need bike too.
Good video, I’m building my home gym bit by bit.
Couldn’t see the cat though-it must be one of those ninja kitties.
I live out in the country side. The closest bigger town that has a gym is 25 miles away from me,so i put myself together with a home gym. It’s to costly to go back and forth to a gym.The stuff i have for my home gym so far is a lat pull down free weight machine which cost me $200,got about 600 pounds in free weights which cost me another $200,a pair dumbbells, have a adjustable flat bench which didn’t cost me anything, don’t have a curl bar yet,do have a indoor concept 2 rowing machine which cost me about $450,so that’s what i got so far for a home gym.
I enjoy the gym. I got results in your program and met 100s of people
Great video. I love working out at home, always have. I just have some dumbbells, a chinning bar, a jumprope and that’s it.
Thanks for this video. I can really identif myself with this. Started building my homegym 2 months ago and I find working out at home is more effective. Although, many of my friends want me to stay at the gym while I’m thinking of terminating my membership. Now I dont know what to do…
Such a good video! Sums it up perfectly!
Social factor in a gym is huge but at home you can just train without external influence:)
Hows the experience in the new house so far btw? All good?
I wouldn’t work out at my home gym, same reason why I would do worse in my online classes, because I could sleep in bed instead of having to go to class. Food for thought.
I guess im not that social. Working out trying to be social scews up my workout. Maybe if i knew the people at my gym it would be different. Im more in tune, and able to have a mind muscle connection, than when im talking..
I have allergies on many foods and It is hard for me to find a diet that doesn’t include particular foods. Then my friend sent me link to the website called NextLevelDiet where I can get personalized meal plan only with food I select. My fitness journey has just started, what about you?
G.reat point to pick up on jason, I’m fortunate enough to have room for a multi gym with cables and a leg press machine attached, Alongside my freeweights bench. I do around 70% of my training at home and have been for 15 years or more. But you’re precisely right about the social side it can get a little lonley at home..lol. But also the local gym helps me to avoid plateuing just through being in a different environment and feeding of the energy at the gym.
I love having a home gym. Been using a home gym the past 7 years. Only used a real gym for about a year. I made great progress. Discipline is not a factor for me. I go to sleep feeling like a kid on xmass eve the night before a workout still after 7 years! I think something is wrong with me lol The range of motion thing is on point. I have found my own best ranges of motion and if I went to a gym today I would be made fun of for doing half reps on bench. However I have a 47 inch chest and probably would have the best physique in my little small hometown gym. There are times I wish I had access to leg press, hammer strength. If I ever get enough $ I am buying them tho and sticking them in my house lol. Right now just have a power rack with cable pull down, and pull up, barbells and dumbbells.
See I’m not social at the gym honestly, I generally hit it pretty intensely and no one wants to talk to me, but I am fine with that, considering I go with high intensity. I do a mix of both, although for some stuff its definitely better to do it at the gym. I chalk it up to placebo effect I think, but I definitely feel stronger in the gym…and looking at cardio bunnies doesn’t hurt…so…many….yoga…pants….
just out of curiosity can you do a full body workout every day with light weights or moderate weights compound movements like one set of 20 reps each thank you
Keeping a log book is a good idea, then you know what body parts need doing and drives you to catch up. btw for a natural you are pretty big.
You are so funny man. You are right I hated work out at theGym man. It’s so gross like shit. That’s why I just work out at home and buy whatever I needed.
Disadvantage of a home gym burning steaks on the grill multiple times while doing giant sets ugh!!
Jason when you lift at home do youwait till your cats lift or you re the one lifting first? thanks
Awsome bolo. I do most of my training at home. I train during the day.then train after work, as I work nights. hows the cat finding his new home? if he/she is your cat lol.
I used to have a half decent home gym several years ago but unfortunately I was one of them guys who could never get motivated to use it. There’s something awesome about turning up to your local gym in my opinion, wacking some loud beats on, catching up with your buddys, and lifting in a testosterone filled environment that has attitude. Great pros and cons video Jason.
Leave your cell phone in a locker? Once I left $200 in my wallet in a locker. Guess what, I left gym without $200 in my wallet. Good that I decided to go back and grab my cell phone so that I could check time while working out. I would have lost that cell phone too. There is a lot of trash ppl that break into lockers. Since then, I do not leave anything i a locker. Even my winter jacket goes into my gym bag and stays with me on the floor. I don’t give a middle finger about it even gym policy does not allow gym bags on the floor.
Totally depends on the quality of your home gym. There’s a reason why a lot of top level athletes have home gyms or they own a private gym. IMO proper home gym is way better than the public shit. You can have a hardcore environment with quality equipment. Public gym equipment is pretty bad ones you have tested what is out there.
I use your dumbell workouts at home lol. Pretty good so far. But since I dont have more weights i just up the reps/sets
Having the option of both is the best. You can get a little more wild and crazy at home but the commercial gym has better equipment and camaraderie. I would also like to add that working out in the park with the fresh air and body weight setups is also nice. It’s nice to have multiple options to keep things fresh. Sometimes it’s good to keep your eye on the prize and have a body weight only “diet”.
I have approx $80 000 (value new) in gym equipment in my basement. I would never want to go back to a commercial gym again. I find I can start my workout as soon as I feel ready and not have to do the drive and possibly lose some motivation.
I think people need to seriously consider what they want to achieve. If you’re not going to commit to serious weightlifting, it would probably make more sense to do calisthenics with very basic equipment at home. Do walking, running, or HIIT for cardio. Do yoga even. Why spend ANY money on a home gym or membership when most of us only want to look decent in a mirror and be healthy?
I feel the opposite way tbh I feel the gym is full of distractions and things getting in the way where as at home it’s peaceful and quiet
I use a home gym because I can’t concentrate with the background music in every gym and I can’t afford to own a car anymore but I prepared by getting a bicycle for groceries and nobody dares to interrupt me when I workout at home. Some equipment is improvised such as a cable and pulley secured by a chain wrapped around a rafter and an attic door I straddle with an empty barbell for chin-ups and pull-ups. A couple of benches which incline and a leg extension/curl machine.
There is a Planet Fitness 6 miles by bicycle but that is an infamous franchise that serves junk food.
Both 2x a week at home 3x a week at a gym combined with my Boxing and Swimming and running
Home gym. Because people hate on me at the gym. I have had gym staff talking crap about me cuz I’m bigger and used a pre workout for pump. The constant stare from an ego maniac who is going against you at every lift… your way stronger tho. People be trippin for no reason.
I have a gym membership at the moment because I’m adding more stuff to my gym, currently have quite a few things like a bench press, Smith machine, not to many dumbells and a few curl bars, punching bags etc. but still missing a few items, but that’s they only reason I’m not working out at home. I feel as if I get way more into it at home rather then the gym where their are people staring or equipments token up. Not to mention the type of music playing, I cant get into it listening to drake lol.
Great to see you back again! I also only do home gym workouts.
I bought weights and started working out at home. Don’t regret it at all, No more people taking up the squat rack to do stupid shoulder press. No more people getting in my way, no more waiting for someone who’s useing something that I need witch they are not even using just sitting there. Don’t get me wrong being around other people is cool and it feels good, but it can get frustrating.
Got a Rogue rack, Olympic bar, dip bar and tons of weights at home.. best thing I ever bought… to each their own
I fully agree with you Lee, that you should always go to your regular commercial gym instead of home workouts. There is a small gym in my apartment compounds, where I just do light work or if I do not have the time somehow. But there is this vibe and energy in a public gym, not to mention all the heavy weights that allows you to push yourself to the max. Thanks for another great video!
I workout at home with dumbbells and also sometimes use public bar near my apartment building.
I have both a home gym and a membership and I can say unequivocally that you are correct sir. I use my home gym when the weather sucks or I feel like trying something new and need to work out the bugs. But the gym is the better workout. Something about being around other people working out makes you more focused.
I truly believe it comes down to the equipment you have at home. I have a power rack and a Tuff Stuff CXT 200 functional trainer, along with seated calf and cardio equipment. I actually get better and faster workouts at home; while avoiding the commute and wait times on equipment. Just my thoughts. Great Video Lee.
Home gym all day.. at least you know where the weights are. Instead of wasting half your workout looking for them..
I tried the gym and although its a good atmosphere as everyone is going hard i felt uncomfortable with how I looked compared to the majority of people there, home workout is fine you barely need anything other than maybe dumbells if working on specific areas
I work out at home. The reason is im sick and going to the gym is a problem because I can feel tired. But before I got sick many years ago I was working out at the local gym and I agree with you.
I workout at home, and at the gym. That way it keeps me motivated.
You’re out of your mind. Public gyms are filthy and dirtier than a public toilet. Do you own home gym.
I am starting a home gym any ideas would be helpful I already have a weight bench
I tell people this all the time. The mentality of gym versus ‘place where I sleep and relax’ is hard to reliably separate. Also, if you belong to a decent gym it will provide you room to grow versus having to go out and buy more weight or equipment every time you progress beyond what you’ve purchased. Maintaining home equipment is another thing. But, if you have a lot of weights and gym equipment in your home you’ll find out who your true friends are when it comes time to move
I spent about 900 dollars on my home gym. Half rack with pull up attached, 300 pound olympic bar, bench, mats, swiss ball…I think the most important aspect of lifting is safety. A half rack will sometimes come with long bars that you can set on a lower number on the rack that you can ‘bail out’ on when squatting, or benching.
If you’re gonna do home don’t bother with a half ass setup. Got a setup with free weights thats better than the stuff at all the gyms near me.
Got rogue rack, adjustable, rubber dbs, saftey squat bar, Axl bar, Swiss bar, rogue bike, dip bars, 2 chin bars, landmine, power barbunch of bands and other crap too lazy to list out
If I just had a chep setup… I wouldnt bother to train at home but I got better bars, sqaut rack, bench and bike and dbs than my local gyms… Only thing I don’t have that I’d like is a leg press…
Home gym but you are 100% right. I feel like I pushed myself harder when I trained at a commercial gym.

I still workout at home now, so, can i build more muscle like everyone at gym, when i just doing workout at home?
I much rather work out at home. My two big rasons are: 1.Time saving arriving an leaving gym. 2.I can follow my routine the way I planned it, without having to wait for people to stop using the equipment I want.
The only reason I prefer working out at a commercial gym is that it has more equipment options.
Several years back when I started working out, I started at home. I remember having a few pair of dumbells, pushup handles and a pull up bar. Did that for a year, it helped to boost my self-esteem.
Once the foundation was built, got myself a gym membership and never looked back. I think working out at home is a great idea for beginners.
I largely agree except the weakness of commercial gyms is also their strength. When a commercial gym has nice close-knit community it turns into really great support system that can boost adherence more than not having to commute to the gym.
I train in my basement gym. The torture chamber! Over the years I have accumulated everything, plus I’m a truck tire man, so I get dirty. Kill it every day, for…. 32 years now. Holy shit lol. Great content, no bull.
What about the motivation that you get from the gym when you see other people training next to you whereas workouts at home are usually quitted because friends to talk with training becomes repetitive and boring…….If you want to be objective you should the factor “motivation” in gym and home in your video.
Strangely, you actually look cuter with a plunger on your head. Seriously.
Hey Lee, the first snowfall of the year? I guess we beat you with it last week in Toronto but now it’s raining. Good video, thanks. Gym workouts always work better for me than going at home. No distractions.
I workout out at home for now..went to a gym many years ago and I injured my shoulder due to being competitive and trying to do more than I can. Too much testosterone
Hey Lee, you probably get this alot. But i just wanna say thank you for everything you do for the fitness community. You may think you’re just giving tips, but no… its more than that. Its more than giving advice, you literally gave people that window to change their lives for the better, Just wanna say we appreciate what you do.
I disagree…but, I built a custom power rack with a pulley system, so everything I could get at a commercial gym I have at home (minus a leg-press machine, but I have ways around that)…But, then again, I prefer the “Me” time ALL to myself and I don’t allow distractions. Some like the public spaces, but not me.
I was called crazy for having a home gym, well who’s the crazy one now?
My home gym has a squat rack, Olympic bar and plates to 450 lbs, Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells to 120 lbs, lat and cable rack….and no waiting to use the equipment
lol, effective workout outfit…this is why i love working out at home!
As long as u r exercising dnt matter unless you want build strength or bodybuilding just exercise
