You can also get the prebiotic benefits of oligosaccharides by adding more fermentable fiber, including resistant starch, to your Prebiotic Fiber The nutrition community has become more interested in oligosaccharides for a different reason: The human digestive system has a difficult time breaking down many of these carbohydrates.Potential oligosaccharides benefits include improved immunity, decreased cholesterol and triglyceride levels, enhanced digestive health, better blood sugar control, and increased weight loss. They can be found in a variety of food sources, including onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus and tomatoes, along with many other nutritious ingredients.
Prebiotics act as food for “good” bacteria in the intestine. Don’t confuse prebiotics with probiotics such as lactobacillus, bifidobacteria, and saccharomyces, which are live organisms that are.Prebiotics are found naturally throughout the diet, although often in small quantities. Most commonly, they are carbohydrates, 1 like fructans (found in onions, asparagus, and artichokes, or as inulin) and oligosaccharides (found in beans, grains, bananas, and some vegetables, as well as in supplements and foods as fructooligosaccharides or FOS).Add These 8 Best Prebiotic Foods to Your Diet for Good Gut Health You may be familiar with probiotic foods and their gut health benefits but prebiotics are just as important.
While probiotic foods Oligosaccharides have been shown to promote the growth of probiotic strains bifidobacteria and lactobacill. The health benefits of dietary fiber have long been appreciated. Higher intakes of dietary fiber are linked to less cardiovascular disease and fiber plays a role in gut health, with many effective laxatives actually isolated fiber sources. Higher intakes of fiber are linked to lower body weights. On.
PrebioThrive combines five advanced, fiber-rich prebiotic ingredients to help promote a probiotic-friendly environment in your gut. Prebiotics support your body’s digestion and pair well with probiotics. These include benefits for weight loss, digestive health, immune function and more (2, 3).
This is an overview of the key health benefits linked to probiotics. 1.The benefits of adding Prebiotin to your child’s diet. Chicory-based prebiotics like Prebiotin have shown to improve the bacterial balance, where beneficial bacteria crowd out toxic bacteria like clostridium. Therefore, it may be beneficial for your child’s diet to include a daily dose of Prebiotin.
The best known of the prebiotics are inulin and oligosaccharides, with inulin being the most heralded of the prebiotics for supplying the good bacteria in your digestive system, with the food source it needs to stay healthy and to grow.Fructo-oligosaccharides are known as the prebiotics that keep you strong and healthy, as they feed the bacteria found in your intestines. To put it simply, FOS provides food that helps bacteria (healthy microflora) to flourish in your intestines.
This microflora.Prebiotics “feed” the probiotics, or beneficial bacteria in your gut, and end up producing a byproduct called postbiotics. When it comes to supplementing, which is best: probiotics or prebiotics?
All three (pre, pro and postbiotics) boast an extensive array of health benefits and work together to boost both digestive and overall health.Because prebiotics help probiotics flourish, eating more of them is a smart wellness strategy. Indeed, a 2012 study found a link between a diet high in prebiotics and a reduced risk of developing colorectal cancer.
Other research has suggested that prebiotics increase calcium absorption and may improve bone density.Potential oligosaccharides benefits include improved immunity, decreased cholesterol and triglyceride levels, enhanced digestive health, better blood sugar control, and increased weight loss. They can be found in a variety of food sources, including onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus and tomatoes, along with many other nutritious ingredients.
Did you know that the food you eat can have an impact on your mental health? Scientists have found an association between the brain and your digestive tract; they call it the gut-brain axis. The healthy bacteria in your gut may have a therapeutic effect on feelings of depression.
You have probably seen probiotic and prebiotic on food labels and may not be exactly sure what the difference is.

I’ve been using products from http://www.hyperbiotics.com. I use the prebiotic powder and pro-15 and the pro-15 advanced. Any other products you’d recommend?
Just remember to do your research on the brands….not all probiotics are created equal nor are they regulated so anyone can pretty much slap a label on a bottle with very few beneficial bacteria and call it a probiotic. Also, consider if you have gut issues, to focus on fixing those issues with REAL food and not so much with supplements. Hippocrates stated that all disease starts in the gut and I personally believe those were wise words as were his words about using real food for medicine and our medicine being our food. I am finding that because of my own personal gut issues which are linked to SO MANY other issues, even a clean keto plan is not helping me increase insulin sensitivity and lose the weight I need to lose. However, it did help reveal some issues with my liver and gallbladder which further got me to dig into gut research and healing that needs to happen first. I even saw some studies on how insulin resistance can be linked to gut health (PCOS ladies look into it). After his military service, my husband ended up with such bad IBS that continued to worsen and landed him in the emergency room with the need for an iliostomy. Since his reversal, his gut has healed dramatically, but he still has issues that need to be fixed and the keto actually seemed to be causing more inflammation/IBS symptoms than it was healing. I started looking into the GAPS intro phase but it’s very restrictive and can last a week to a few months. The encouraged diet to follow afterward is usually about 2 years for most people before really introducing a fuller range of REAL foods back in. We know the intro is not realistic for us and would really be setting us up for failure. So instead, our plan is to go more into the “2-year” portion of it (which many have also had success with in healing) and implement a whole food, clean eating plan with lots of collagen-filled broths/soups to seal the gut lining, fermented foods and drinks (probiotics), and the just-as-important prebiotic fibers from fruits and veggies to feed that good bacteria…most of which I plan to make myself at home to ensure we are getting the real deal AND save money. It will be naturally lower carb but not so low that we are in ketosis. It may take a bit longer for our gut lining to heal than if we went on the GAPS intro, but we also know that slow is steady, and steady is fast. After we feel we are in a better place in our gut health, we will re-evaluate and determine if we want to implement more of the keto lifestyle again, which should now work the way it’s supposed to. At the very least, we will continue with the good gut health plan and introduce proper IF again before going back into keto and IF. NOTE: We still fully believe in the benefits of fat adaptation! There’s lots of info out there and much of it is valuable but with as screwed up as most of us are, it becomes all about trial and error. That is why I like videos/blogs like Thomas’s which are backed by scientific study. However it is still important to do your own research, test the studies/information given by folks like Thomas, and above all else, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!
Much appreciated for sharing your knowledge. I’m starting to feel intelligent as well as healthy.
I have constipation problem for years now, i have seen drs. They prescribed me linzess now but its not effective, i have been eating fiber in my diet and also my eating habit so much healthier now then years back but i still cant go, i would maybe o ones a week, and its bad sometimes i have to take suppository or enema ones a week if i cant go regular, i been taking Psyllium whole husk with my oatmeal now everyday. Praying it would work but nothing but im still continuing the Psyllium husk. Do you recommend anything else? M dr wants me to go see the specialist but i cant afford that yet so hoping other ways could help plz help thank you
last video i watched of yours you said no onions or garlic. i have some eczema on my face. when can i eat onions and garlic again?
i am on an anti inflammitory diet. vegan
Only problem is once you have SIBO, you can’t do prebiotics, because then, you are feeding the bad stuff as well. Need to be careful with probiotics, as well. You need to know how to feed the right bacteria because you can mess up your gut.

Some of the major factors driving this market are increasing consumer awareness towards health, nutrition and their intense focus on need for essential additives in the diet.
A study was done in UK that showed that skinny people have more of one specific microbe but I forgot the name and when scientists took crap from the skinny person and inserted into the overweight person the metabolism got way faster and the person started to lose weight but I forgot the name because I heard it on BBC radio in my car so I don’t remember the name of the microbe
Wonderful content Thomas; thank you! Everything you say in this video echoes what I share with my own viewers. The bulk of my channel is dedicated to food as medicine, fermenting foods, eating a diet rich in prebiotics, and how probiotic foods can also be prebiotic foods as is the case of fermented garlic, onions, leeks, asparagus, artichokes, carrots, dandelion greens, etc.
Question: Do we ingest the hand sanitizer when we apply it to our hands? I NEED an answer quickly. I’m forced to use this stuff at work.

Hey Thomas, I love your video and I like to follow your work. I know vitamin and mineral are good, it would be cool if I could get you thought on that topic.
He didnt mention it, but isnt gut bacteria like your 2nd brain?
It impacts strongly on your personality, and if you have a serotonin problem, fixing you gut will fix the serotonin problem.
Am I wrong??
I have been taking antibiotics for a long time and now my toilet is not clean 3 months I face this problem what can I do now
How long does it take to restore normal gut bacteria after abusing sugar-free energy drink for years?
What is that freaking yogurt that you mentioned?! Captions aren’t helping me and I can’t really figure out how to pronounce it.
is it normal for probiotics to give me the stinkiest poops and farts ever?
Omg definitely need to try this!! I have SUCH an issue with bloating.
Can someone explain this to me!? If you’re on a Keto diet how would a probiotic colony thrive in you’re intestines when you aren’t feeding it sugar?
Hi, I have eczema and hypothyroid. My legs have gone black and flare up it bad. Can I cook my food sunflower seeds oil?
Hi Thomas I have been following you and Dr. Berg for 3 years and have lose 65lbs. I also us this “Prebiotic Fiber Supplement Organic Fiber Powder” have you tried it? http://markusrothkranz.com/online-store/bodyforce/prebiotic-fiber.html
what are your thoughts on bone broth? based on my research, ive seen and heard about the benefits of bone broth, but you have never mentioned it. would you recommend it?

Information on fermentation (cabbage), pasteurization (stores), how heating sauerkraut (eg stovetop) affects bacteria.
Thank You! You are a Deep Blessing to Knowledge based Health Choices!!
Excellent video. Better than similar videos by FitLife TV and Doctor Mike. Thx Thomas!
All good, dawn!!!!!
I had skin problem too.
Instead of dealing with the skinI zoom in to treat LEAKY GUT!!!!!
After change of diet, treat it NATURALLY…..!!!!
PSORIASIS WAS TREATED FROM INSIDE OUT.OF THE BODY……..NOT OUTSIDE TO INSIDE!!!!!
LEAKY GUT IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN MILLIONS OF PEOPLE….
SOLVED IT!!!!!
THEN YOUR SKIN PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED.
He mentioned what he eats as a prebiotic, but I couldn’t understand what he said. I tried to listen several times, but just can’t get it. Looks like some kind of cheese? Please help…anyone? Thanks!
Why do you tell half truths the best source of prebiotics is psyllium husk, fibre & resistant starch that you find in legumes and vegetables. The worst source of pro-biotics is yogurt.
I like this alot ACCEPT that you promoting bread/wheat wish most people today know is bad for you.
Onions, raw garlic, apples, bananas, raw asparagus, burdock root, Jerusalem artichokes, chicory roots, dark chocolate
So basically I need to eat a few asparagus or some garlic 30 minutes before my probiotics? I take mine in the morning.. is that the best time? Thanks(Trying to heal Crohn’s disease and Candida overgrowth here.)
The probiotic will be in tablet form only or what, is there any dietary supplements
HI Thomas!:D Love how you broke down the difference between pro and pre-biotics. So many people use them interchangeably and it frustrates the crap out of me:) Great video, keep them coming!
are eczema sufferers eligible to eat tomatoes? how about cherry tomatoes?
Hello, I recently ordered on the website.. and now im doing more research on YouTube about the product and i am seeing that some people have “female” and “male” on there jar… are the ingredients different between the sex? Because my jar says neither
Hello Thomas, does instant black coffee have the same effects of those you would brew??
thank you, great video. here is some further reading https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2666202/
Once I saw that you were a meat shop i stopped the video, nothing intelligent will be derived from it.
So basically pursue a whole plant based diet with some occasional yogurt and you should be fine.
Thomas what if you are yeast sensitive and can’t enjoy fermented foods? How do you get probiotics?
Having something to eat is so complicated you could spend all day everyday on YouTube looking for what’s right or wrong
is it okay to digest aloe Vera latex? I cut the leaf and added the gel into my green juice but it has a bitter taste. I didn’t drain the leaf before doing so.
and just curious, are we supposed to stay away from foods that contain anti inflammatory products? i thought eczema sufferers benefit from foods that contain anti inflammatory products?
Thanks for posting another EXCELLENT video! I quit drinking coffee, I was up to a whole pot of coffee a day! Feel a lot better. Need to work on my gut health.
Let’s take one million supplements a day. Or we will live a very unhealthy life and eventually die
Omg! Way to confusing! I’m no further ahead of understanding what I’m suppose to eat or drink to obtain a good gut biome.
i love this video. y r so so fuunnyy////////////////////////////////////////////
Sorry, You don’t have any solid knowledge about pre & probiotics.
► Prebiotics don’t need to be fiber. They’re usually carbohydrates and might be sugars & polyols. Fructose is prebiotic, but feeds mainly that ‘bad’ bacteria. Maltodextrin can be prebiotic. Starch can be prebiotic if it turns into resistant starch.
► You don’t take prebiotics while taking antibiotics because it’s pointless. Prebiotics will feed ‘bad’ bacteria You’re trying to kill. You should takie only certain probiotics which will take place of ‘bad’ bacteria and help to fight them.
► For example, lactobacillus strains have self-limiting properties, so You can’t make them overgrown by taking supplements…
Prebiotics often cause serious gastrointestinal problems when someone with gut bacteria imbalance is taking them, because prebiotics are usually ‘food’ for most bacteria ( those bad also ).
► And what exactly mean term “bad bacteria”? You see, “good” bacteria sometimes can overgrown and become “bad”. Not because it’s inherently bad, but because of imbalance. So, taking prebiotics makes it even worse in this situation.
► Food is not good source of probiotics because You don’t know exactly which strains it contains, how much of individual strain, because probiotics are living organisms. Amounts of probiotics constantly change in product, so even two the same products from the same brand will have different amounts and differentiation of probiotics. You don’t even know if the amount is enough to survive in stomach acid and properly colonize guts. You can’t count on food as a probiotic source in emergency situation ( taking antibiotics or suffering SIBO which is to say simply bacteria gut imbalance ). You can eat them as a form of prevention and hoping its enough.
Thanks for the video. As a matter of fact I also listen to the same video with Ben Greenfield and the owner of seed company. It made complete and total sense. I now take the product just like you. I take two or maybe three a day sometimes and it is sent to me monthly just like yourself. I think it’s a fantastic product. I’m interested to find out the results of your next test.…
Thank you!
One question:
How often are there rotations need to happen? (After how many months)
Thank you for this info!!
Thomas… what about Xylooligosaccharides? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Hi! Small question: What was the name of that condensed yogurt thing? Thanks!
I was hoping to find best sources of inulin which is the #1 source of prebiotic. chicory root is highest source of inulin (but I dont see it in bulk). please list other sources, for instance your major brands of fiber (metamucil, benefiber) do not show to contain inulin.
Thanks for the info. Good stuff. I have been drinking 4 oz of kombusha tea every morning for the past 28 years. I was wondering about the need for probiotics on a Keto diet. Thanks.
Hi I just started taking Seed a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t noticed any difference and am wondering if you are able to share your results
If you have anything on kidney health, I greatly appreciate it. I’m in renal failure, and I would like to know all I can do to slow it down or possibly cure it .
Did you post a follow-up video after you did your testing again? I’ve looked at I can’t seem to find it if you have.
Great info…!
Whole plant based foods to promote gut health on Instagram mikewakethefoodup
i eat 2 tablespoons of gts coconut probiotic yogurt everyday. Is that bad?
what about Forager Project Dairy-Free Probiotic Organic Unsweetened Plain Cashewmilk Yogurt? I am dairy-free, and i haven’t found great options for yogurt..
Would have been better if you actually gave example of both mixed. Now I’m thinking eat an onion and then have some yogurt. Seems a bit weird.
What is AFU? I’ve only hear of CFU. Also does this help to repair the gut lining?
LOL Repatha ad. On a video to fix your gut. Instead of Repatha, eat oatmeal.
One more test needed… One of you should also stop taking Seed then wait for eight weeks or three months or whatever then test to see how many, if any, are still colonized and surviving and by how much? N = 2! Let’s see it! I started making my own yogurt. I’ll just say for now, this is a Thing and someone needs to sort out a matrix of what species and strains are beneficial for what conditions. I can definitely feel the calmness and well being effects from the Lactobacillus reuteri strain. Ref: Dr. Davis yogurt recipe. Other questions need answering like what are the Human probiotic strains? Where did they derive? How is a probiotic derived from a mothers breast milk in Peru get mass produced into a live supplement? Synthesized? What populations have what gut microbiome? What does the Blue Zone Poo report indicate? I’m sure there’s a website for all of this!
Finally, what strains would be best for the Standard American Diet (SAD)? This could be the modern day sauerkraut (with live probiotics) solution and targeted for specific populations or environments! If Food is gonna be the future of medicine, then these probiotics have a big role to play. The negative press on yogurt in the US, is the fact that much of the yogurt does not have live species. I noticed that I don’t see the words probiotic on yogurt labels anymore. I do see a few live cultures in milk fat yogurt in small print. If only twenty percent of the population has healthy gut bacteria, we have a problem! I can definitely feel the difference. I’m a believer in probiotics now! I would try three months of Seed but I’m not interested in an annual subscription.
Just got the product today. I’m 1 pill into the journey. Glad to hear it’s working for you!
Talks about gut microbiota, shows a picture of a stomach, very logic.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG if you’re on or going to be on antibiotics.
Take it easy on the acidophilus.
And get some Bacillus strains in ya
I’m always surprised that Jicama isn’t mentioned in list for prebiotics.
Speaking of the soil you should also play in the dirt and not wash your hands… Yogurt, kombucha, and sauerkraut only have a fraction of the beneficial bacteria that we need
1) What is adequate amount off probiotic?
2) how to know you don’t need any more?
Totally worth watching this just to watch her say diarrhoea! Hilarious and educational
Well said Thomas Delauer avoid Triclosan. From hand sanitizer or hand soap. Beware what one buys. That’s why I don’t use anti bacterial soap for showering. Just a normal soothing shower soap. Cause even those reduce good bacteria.
One of the best channels on fitness and functional. Props.
Are there supplements that we can take that have all three? (Symbiotic, probiotic, and prebiotic)
Thank you I live in nyc it’s hard to get good organic food out here but I’m trying to fix my skin following your foot stems is peanut butter any good or should I cut it out?
Nobody “needs” dairy. You don’t even need to take special supplements. Just eat Paleo foods and your body will adjust and your beneficial bacteria will flourish
The mix of 200 truly human oligosaccharides in breastmilk changes over lactation, which continues over years, not simply 6 months. If structure influences function, can industry ever hope to or afford to match that changing variety using genetically-modified microbial synthesis? Structure-identical may be possible for a few olives though the purity of synthetic oligosaccharide products will be important, when LPL contamination leads to pro-inflammatory effects (see the NNI talk by Lars Bode 22/4/2020). And the commercial oligo mixes are not identical. The high cytokine levels of formula fed infants may well continue or even worsen if the oligo-additive mix is contaminated, but what level of purity is realistically possible in a processed product made by microbes on an industrial scale? (And what price increase will be needed: will infant formula become even less affordable?) As for cognitive benefits, the different development of infant brain white matter in formula fed infants is unlikely to be remedied by simply changing carbohydrates. Direct types and amounts of protein, different fats, different hormones, all will have effects, for starters. For all infants, human milk oligosaccharides can be available already, if mothers breastfeed and provide them, along with hundreds of the other non-replicable ingredients that also influence immunity and metabolism and the expression of inherited genes. It is ironic that in western countries there are still breastfeeding-science-deniers who saw FOS and GOS oligosaccharides as a significant breakthrough, believing the marketing that these provide important immune protection, while also believing that there have been few negative effects for formula fed infants (wherever the water is clean and poverty not an issue). While formula is necessary, it is important that it be as good as possible, and mixes of bacterially-synthesised analogues of some of what is in women’s milk may well be a benefit, so I support the need for industry-funded (and independently scrutinized) research, using only infants truly exclusively breastfed from birth as controls. (Not currently happening). But I suspect that overall the newest additives may prove to be of little more benefit as the much-marketed addition of nucleotides, now seen as unnecessary but justifying price increases. And I think that the study recruiting infants after 5-14 days (of breastfeeding?) to the use of an extensively hydrolyzed whey product tells us very little about the effects of the additive to cows milk based, casein-containing formulas. Download a massive reference text free at http://www.infantfeedingmatters.com if interested in the issue of how formula has changed over time.
Hi there.Where do you buy Jerusalem artichoke in Switzerland? Never found it…
half of the video is correct. probiotics are only useful for a targeted action. they dont stay in the gut.you grow bacterias with prebiotics. it will take 10 more years for people to get it.
Hi Dawn, can we ask how to heal from severe eczema for my 2 years old daughter because cortisone, steroids, antibiotics and antihistamine are only working temporarily. We hope you can make a how to video. Thank you!
U mentioned in the previous video to avoid garlic as it generates heat.. Which is not good for your body if you have eczema.. As u mentioned to eat cooling foods
Why dont you show the LIST OF GOOD FOOD ON THE SCREEN….instead of just talking about it.
Awaiting for ur next upload regarding Seed u guys are such a fun and lovely couple to watch!
for protein intake, do you have any recommendations? instead of meat consumption?
Hello Dawn, I realized that some food which are good in probiotics are also food in which you mentioned eczema patients should avoid. Please advice me on what I should do? If I should eat them in moderation, what would be considered moderation?
Your videos were all very inspiring and helpful!
I like the health-related content ❤ I suggest you’d show photos of those in the list briefly while discussing more about them.
I have eczema and it flares up really bad in these 2 years..Now I eliminate many foods and just eat what I cook..but still I get minor eczema which is make my skin has scars and dark tone. Thanks for the detailed review and all the tmi information, it was exactly what I needed to know. I’ve suffered from stomach problems since forever
Love learning from people who walk the walk! Love your scientific viewpoint too. How about a video on what a typical dinner is for you? Thank you!
Very interesting! I never ever heard about prebiotics until about a year ago.. there’s always something new to learn, huh? Thank you!
