I can’t read the title on the second book because of the lighting
No McDougall, we can’t do “the food thing tomorrow.” we don’t grow enough plants. Those that we grow used Roundup, a killer-poison highly modified to kill resistant weeds. Corn is modified to tolerate the more potent reformulated Roundup. The business world and agricultural world and product distribution chains are fixed and limited, not capable of fulfilling the McDougall fantasy. Imagine the high cost of plant food if we all switched to them “overnight” like McDougall advocates? His vision is poorly thought out.
I never tire of listening to Dr. McDougall. I find it so inspiring that even after all these years, he’s still continues to be so passionate about his message about a starch based diet. I am so grateful for his work!!
I don’t know why she’s so gung-ho about fibers. There is no evidence they help anything, but there IS evidence they sequester micronutrients from the ingested food.

As spanish I know very well where colesterol is… animal fats for cooking are hard to find. Butter is available but you supose to eat it in smalll amounts, etc. I am enjoying my butter now along with other very tasty foods while losing wheigh.

Sugar and processed foods is bad not fat or protein. All should eat carbohydrates too.
I do break my fast with 3-5 eggs and some low GI veggies/ dark lief greens on ghee every day for the last 3 years! I have been on low LCHF with Intermittent Fasting. I eat 2 times within 24 hr. Love it!
I have yet to see a single pro LCHF/Keto advocate who doesn’t look great. They always looks slim, healthy and fit, and in Feng’s case, gorgeous too.

Not of fan of absolute hard numbers on dietary restriction such as 50g of carbs per day as it falls victim to the 2,000 calorie a day mantra. This completely ignores how the body uses glucose. You can certainly eat more than two slices a bread a day as long as you don’t overeat per sitting and eat only when you are hungry. I literally lived on whole grain bread and peanut butter and actually lost weight and my blood-work came out fantastic. That was because I was eating when I was only hungry and only eat a peanut butter sandwich and nothing else.
The key to managing carbohydrate consumption is simply eating to the point you are satiated and not overeating. It is the overeating that triggers excess insulin which triggers food addiction. It is entirely possible to eat bread without triggering insulin reaction. When the body needs energy, the majority of glucose is burnt off immediately, then stored into glycogen. If most of the glucose is burnt off, there isn’t much free glucose for the body to trigger a insulin response. You don’t need the “high fat” in the low-carb diet. Fat is an important macro-nutrient, but no indication you need high amounts of it.
The point is managing your glucose levels as to not trigger a strong insulin response. High-fiber carbs are much better at controlling glucose, thus easier to use them for that reason. They are more filling while consuming less carbs but not necessary. The actual metabolic process is ignored when people advocate for diets. Your actual carb-to-fat ratio can be in favor of carbohydrates and you can still have low blood sugar and excellent lipid profile. People give too much credit to the fat in the diet, when it could conversely just be carbohydrate restriction that really does most of the work.
This practical info is brilliant for people like me. I am not looking to lower my weight but have IBS and need to reduce inflamation and improve my health. Thank you x

This is insane. According to her I can only eat 110 of protein a day? What am I missing here? One pound of beef chuck roast is 140g of protein. One pound of beef will not carry me through the next 24 hours. No way. I am losing weight but I eat double that at least. IDK what to think. I need help here, anyone?

I did a before and after on chicken, beef, pork and fish, and the weight loss after cooking is actually not 20% as she mentioned or each slide, it’s more like 32-35%. So an easy way to remember it is multiply the raw weight by 0.66, and that is your cooked weight. I just round it to 33% loss. I usually have a scale with me anyway so no worries, but if you don’t just remember multiply by.66

This dietitian is the first person to point out where the average American gets their saturated fat.
So in the mainstream when they’re talking about the ills of saturated fat they’re referring deep-dish pepperoni pizza not steak and eggs.
So any study the mainstream uses to poo poo low carb is actually showing how bad wheat/ glyphosate/ Roundup herbicide is, not saturated fat.

I live in the middle of USA. About a year ago, I weighed about 320#. I was in a lot of gut pain and I couldn’t work at all. I started the LCHF diet at the beginning of June. Practically my whole family attacked. Said I needed to listen to doctor to lose weight. Do you see the conundrum. Today I weigh slightly over 200#. Lost >10″ on my waist, 3″ on my neck. My HbA1c is 5.4. My Trig/HDL went from 8.9 to 2.2. My kidney GFR went from under 50 to 88. I exercise for an hour every day. I can cut my own and neighbors lawns again and do repair work on my house again.My energy level and sense of well beng has increased dramatically. My hypertension 160/110 became < 100/60 most of the time or hypotension because Doctor refused to take me off Lisenopril 10mg (I stopped anyway because I was passing out because of intermittant LBP). All I hear from my family and my doctor about my diet now is the sound of crickets. I think they are examining what they had been told about nutrition and the role of saturated fat and carbs their whole life because all except the grandchildren are more overweight than I am and some are obese. That's how change comes about. Someone deviates from the normal and they see what the results are. My task is to continue what I'm doing less than they be stumbled.. Whether you are religious or not, Jesus said once wisely to his critics, "Wisdom is proved righteous by its works" (e.g. results). I'm 72" Height / 71 year old man and I sense everything this young healthy woman said is probably true and practical. Excellent presentation!!
I couldn’t believe the hate, projection and negativity directed towards Dr. McDougall after another interview a few months ago. I watched it and saw nothing but a sharp, witty man who’s passion was infectious. Here he is a bit more subdued but you can still see the same personality and brilliant funny guy!
After seeing that hate directed I decided to try my best to completely step out of the debate between wfpb and keto/carnivore diets. I just want to learn more and focus on my own health.

Pre-industrial rural china, which ate a high-carb diet and didn’t suffer from high rates of chronic disease you see in western countries, didn’t portion control or calorie count, in fact they ate more calories than a typical American during the same period. It is not necessary to calorie restrict or portion control on a starch based diet. The comment she makes that people (which I assume she is referring to modern westerners) have been eating a low-fat diet for a long time is factually incorrect. Low-fat cows milk, for example is high fat. A low fat diet is 10% of calories or less…

Fantastic interview with my very favorite doctor! Gianna is an excellent interviewer too! I love what Dr. McDougall said about MS (Multiple Sclerosis). My husband died at age 41 due to MS. I wish we’d known this information in 1980 when he was first diagnosed. We always grew a garden and ate lots of fresh vegetables, and then we changed our diets a little further, after hearing about Dr. Roy Swank. But it wasn’t enough. (We tried to eat what we thought was “low fat”.) Changing from beef to chicken is not enough. The drugs that were prescribed didn’t help, but they made his face blow up like a chipmunk. It wasn’t until after he died that I discovered Dr.McDougall. (I used to listen to his radio show!) I would debate with my former mother-in-law about the relationship of diet to MS. She’d argue, “The MS Society says it has nothing to do with food.” Like most people, she was brainwashed, bless her heart. PLEASE, everyone. Listen to this man. He speaks the truth. BTW, I’m now 66, my blood pressure is normal, my cholesterol is 112 (that is not a typo my doctor was amazed), and I take NO medication. Oh, I and I have to add this. What always amazes me is how all these supposedly intelligent people never seem to figure out that all long lived and healthy groups of people on this earth have all lived high carb. And, that those small groups of people who have lived close to low carb have life spans of about 50 years. In addition, no group of people have voluntarily gone on a low carb high fat diets. They were forced into it by nature. The longest lived nation on this planet is Japan. These folks are not only high carb, but they eat little in the way of meat. Imagine how much longer they would live if they gave up their high salt intake.
before i found people like mcdougall i was advised to eat bone brought, leave the flouting fat because that was extra healthy. i listened to them. If i think back about it i puke.

I reversed everything going keto and now am in the form of my life…His diet only works for cows with multiple stomachs. Humans are hunters and need cholesterol and fat to sustain a healthy body…The cave paintings show what we have to eat….

Nice chit chat but any addition of carbs to my diet causes me great water retention and inflammation of the joints and muscles. I had to go Carnivore and have never looked back as my mind clears and my body started to get health. This will take a long time as I had damaged both knees and a shoulder over the years and presently have these replaced with surgical procedures but it does help with recovery!
Agree with most everything in this interview except vaccines, though I more prescribe to the Nutritarian Diet. At least Dr. McDougall admitted he is not an expert in this area and was brave enough to comment on the issue, but I disagree that there are any benefits to the Hep B vaccine in babies unless they are at risk and the World Health Organization just admitted that HPV kills more women than cervical cancer does!
FYI, fish oil & krill oil are very environmentally destructive, involve trawling, and can lead to a buildup of mercury and other environmental toxins. Fish oil is also linked with prostate cancer in men. I highly recommend switching to a plant-based algal oil Omega-3 supplement, which is eco friendly, much more efficiently absorbed, and won’t create nasty fish oil burps. Algae is how krill and fish get their omega-3 content anyway, so you can just cut out the eco-destructive fish/krill oil middle men. NutraVeg liquid plant-based Omega-3 is my favorite because it contains no carrageenan, and the lemon flavor is great for adding to salad dressings. The other fruit flavor tastes great too.

Very creative! But wheres the evidence that this diet is healthful long-term? Short term studies aren’t enough, positive outcomes from population studies are required before this can be taken seriously…
In 2014, after watching Forks Over Knives, I failed at a vegan diet after 3 months of full dedication. I didn’t even try to go back until I came across Dr. Mcdougall’s Starch Solution talk on YouTube. NONE of the other WFPB doctors (even to this day) explain well enough the most important foods for people that require high calorie intake. I’m an aircraft equipment mehanic and I will say that without Dr. McDougall’s specific message, virtually every manual laborer would not be able to maintain a WFBP diet.

not sure the answer is lots of leafy greens either. They do not have much in terms of vitamins, have no fat-soluble vitamins, have lots of undigestible fiber, and toxins (phytos, aflatoxins, etc). 1kg per day does not seem to be a good idea at all, but it seems like most nutritionists have not arrived at that yet.

The pharmaceutical companies and food companies and other associated protocols with their oodles of cash is a very big gagging and controlling machine when it comes to self determination. Just to clarify, vaccines are cultured in human, cow, monkey, and chickens. Their DNA fragments can fuse with ours. If the conversation is about being healthy by not eating meat and dairy, then we need to avoid injections of these things. I enjoyed the interview, however it leaves me wondering about the good doctor’s views when he starts making fun of the body shape/type of other “experts” in the nutrition business who advocate eating the things this nice doctor does not agree with. Hey, whatever works for you. To me everything (real food, not junk) in measure combined with what I have appetite for, should work and be just fine. nothing wrong with butter, cheese, meat. everything in measure. oh, I forgot fish. love my sardines. Never had any problems with constipation. Dr. McDougall seems like a nice man, but just a bit over the top.

Wait a minute now. She says I can tolerate up to 3 or more grams per kilogram of body weight per day. I weigh 112 kilograms. That leaves me maybe 350 grams of protein a day to eat? But later on she says I can only have 110grams. Huh? That would be starvation. I only eat once a day. I can’t get by on that without major hunger pain. What am I missing here?
Okay, I am eating once a day. Probably 80% beef chuck roast with butter, 5% cheeses, and 15% salad greens and pecans or walnuts. I still have no idea how much protein I should be eating. I usually eat like 1.75 pounds (793 grams) of meat. Is this too much? I am losing weight, but I just don’t really know. I’m 6-2 and 247 at moment. I was 280 two months ago.
Corn is so full of glyphosate today, it is so bad for your microbiome. I won’t touch the stuff anymore. Not any grain / cereal for that matter. Just eat vegetables, beans, fruit, nuts and seeds. Plenty to choose from there.
Japan is not a third world country and 22% of adults in Japan smoke (not 60% as stated by Dr McDougall). Why would he say that ( 26:15)? Makes me now wonder what other data is incorrect.

Why doesn’t he ever address the A CORN IS GMO fact?
I don’t understand how he can suggest corn without making a clear emphasis on NON-GMO corn only.
I wouldn’t touch a white potato if you paid me. Brown rice should also be clearly stated. Not refined rice. The difference is notable.

Great interview! You changed my life Dr. McDougall. One thing I’ve noticed is that our society is so overweight, it’s becoming the norm and thin people are looked at as unhealthy. I’ve lost weight and but could still stand to lose 10 lbs. my friends think I’m too thin and one even put her arm around and said “honey, you need some protein.” I’m the only one of my senior friends not on meds and can run circles around them.
Most of these people talking at this meeting by their own admission worked in the health and fitness industry and for several years were faithful advocates of the conventional pyramid diet until they came across this particular diet. Now if you went to a vegan conference or a carnivore conference there would be people not unlike these people pushing their eating philosophy with just as much sincerity. I have been on a basic Palio lifestyle for the last few years and it makes the most sense to me, a combination of no carbs, meats and high fats in a combination of 18 hours daily fasting and one hour exercise in a balance of cardio and weights and avoiding siting for as much of the day as I can.
What’s up with all this talk about protein?? We get enough in this country. Probably too much….
The Australian Dietitians Association have made some mistakes over the last 10 years. Time to admit this and embrace their member dietitians ( eg Feng Yuan Liu, Vicky Kuriel and others )
who have gathered knowledge about low carb and ketosis and are prepared to share their knowledge with other members. Encouracing members to attend annual lowcarbdownunder conference is a good place to start

No no no, everybody in Europe doesn’t smoke, Gianna. Our regulations are much stricter than in the US of A. Besides that: good interview gotta love dr. McDougall… His advice (that I have followed for 15 years or so) cured my Lupus completely would never eat any other way.
Humans are not immune to environmental laws. There is a fixed carrying capacity of any biosphere; Earth can carry around 9 billion humans. If we, WHEN we exceed that limit, the population will invariably die off. In this case, many hundreds of millions or billions of people will starve over the course of a couple years. This is the next great disaster for the human species, regardless of the role that climate change plays, and it’s coming soon.

Great interview, I soak in every thing Dr. McDougall has to say. Back to basics shouldn’t have to be taught in this generation, how ever the world has gotten so far off in so many area’s, that here is this wonderful Dr. teaching us again what God said we should follow in our eating. thank you Dr. McDougall and Gianna for this vidio.

I have tried to live off of just whole food plant sources of protein with excellent whole grains and beans. Such a restriction for me after about 6 months effects me seriously and negatively. I need to add back at least 50-60 grams a combo of 1/3 pea, hemp, chia, 1/3 soy isolate, and 1/3 whey (morning) or casein (evening) protein powder to feel right again. Perhaps it may be my genetic makeup

Melatonin should NEVER be taken it’s supposed to be produced by the body naturally that is equivalent to taking a testosterone pill except it affects your brain
