Thanks for the awesome video this helps to know what shoes I can use for running or walking long distance… anyways we subscribed I hope we can get one back
I’ve had flat feet all my life and it’s never given me any issues. Also, I may be on the autism spectrum, and low muscle tone seems to be common with ASD and flat feet are a common symptom. Children with autism sometimes walk around on their tippy toes, could this be a self correcting way to build muscle strength and higher arches? I read a comment on here from someone who was suggested to do this exercise as an alternative treatment. We are quick to discourage and discredit unusual behaviour in this society, but perhaps we are sometimes too quick to demand conformity in our society. Just some thoughts. Btw, I love the Abraham Hicks quote at the start of the video!
I was born with flat feet, both of my parents have it. When I went to get new shoes and stood on the machine, the podiatrist said I had the flattest feet she’s ever seen LOL! And she’d been working a similar job for 15 years! Wearing it like a badge of honour. Anyway she recommended me shoes with proper arch support. I find I can run and stand on them longer without discomfort or pain, although it doesn’t remove the problem entirely.
My left foot is just completely flat no arch or nothing, my right is slightly arched
I have an extreme heel pain that comes from running. What running shoe would you recommend?
I had foot surgery in ’97 with the dr making me custom supports after and used them all the time and they kept me pain free. I couldn’t wear them in sandals, and my feet would hurt horribly without them. I gave up wearing sandals, which was no fun in the summer. The supports finally wore down and last year I decided to try the supports from the Good Feet Store instead. They are expensive, but they are even better than the custom supports, and I can wear them in sandals!! I went out and bought several pair of sandals and I felt liberated! But I think at the same time that everyone is different and has to figure out what will work best for them. Would LOVE if I didn’t have to wear the arch supports, but at least I have options now.
What is the best shoe for running and walking for overweight person with high arch and with wider foot? Still the Bondi 6?
I Have Flat Feet, There is Such Thing 0F Flat Feet. My Dr,. Told Me and it’s True, They Don’t Bother Me @ all, it’s been like That Since I was little. So I Believe There is People That Have Flat Feet.
Why does this guy look like a physical therapist Ive seen in Davenport Iowa?
After having a spinal cord injury and being left with drop foot on my right foot it behaves like a flat foot so I always need to wear insoles with arch support…..trainers and boots are ok to wear then but forget shoes……can’t keep them on, can’t wear them anymore
Where is your office located, what city/state? And do you accept insurance? And does one need a referral from an doctor? Thanks.
I’ve been wearing Chuck Taylor’s my whole life. Can you recommend a shoe that’s not big and bulky on my foot? Most seem to be really wide on the back of the heel.
I have flat feet got my innersoles custom made free but they don’t work. My ankles are really swollen and painful. My dr has prescribed pain killers and I’ll be having physio later this month.
I’m constantly on my feet especially at work (but I can’t quit my job -which dr suggested four years ago)
But I’d like not to be taking pain killers and want any advice you can give me. As I often find I can not walk upstairs as feet sooo painful after each shift at work. Also what kind of shoes would be best as well? Thank you
My mom had flat feet, lived until hundred yrs, I have the same feet, and my grandson age ten yr has same flat feet, runs in the family
I have custom arch supports and they hurt my feet even more than when I’m walking without them. Wouldn’t recommend.
Cruz ✝️. This Definition Flat Foot is so old an stupid definition.. it was known low arch an high arch…
flat feat is in our family. ive got flat feet. my boy has flat feet. i cant do any sport.
I am a UK size 12/12.5 I have very tight soleus weak ankle from a very bad injury. I often have to elevate my legs and am constantly stretching. What would you recommend?
Im now 73 I was born with flat feet hy left ankle I had injured many years ago and its extremely flat, so I need to know should I where hiking type boots like skechers, or regular sneakers for the most support., May I also use a good insert for fallen arches?
I wear out the heels and soles of my shoes on the outside………supination. Are there inserts for that?
I have been flat-footed my entire life. About 9 years ago in my early 50’s I developed crippling plantar fasciitis. I had gotten by for years in good Brooks athletic shoes, fit in a running shop by people who took one look at my feet and knew what shoe I needed. I would break down a pair of shoes every 6 months. When I finished that phase and changing shoes no longer worked, they sent me to a pedorthist, who made me very expensive, but very wonderful, full sole custom orthotics. My plantar fasciitis was cured in less than 2 weeks! That pair of orthotics lasted 5 years!! They are limiting, as not every shoe has a deep enough foot bed to use these monsters, but I walk without pain! I just want to encourage anyone with overpronation to not give up…relief is available!
Maximalist shoes have taken over from barefoot running shoes in popularity. Tell us which ones you love more and why!

For the shoes and orthotics recommended in the video: https://wp.me/p9imRX-54n
I have to buy shoes but this helped with decision I made on an expensive pair.
Bob and Brad, do you have an opinion on rebounders/mini trampolines? They claim to have many health benefits.
I have flat Flintstone feet I have planter facetious I walk around 4 to 5 hours 5 days a week are the asics kayano 25 good shoes to help relieve the pain
How about pronation and flat feet? I keep purchasing the same ASICS sneaker which help some but would like to find a more ridgid alternative. As far as shoes, I wear the danskos and am considering doc martins. Any suggestions?
Bob may actually be a supinator…
Yes, motion control. NB is great for foot problems!
I sprained my right ankle and my foot went flat.. Now I’ve been having so many problems with my foot and walking..
I love the support I get from Vionic shoes. I use their arch supports in my other shoes. They are really comfortable to me.
Why would a generic over the counter orthotic fit my specific foot. It usually will not. Custom orthotics are awesome for men. Much more difficult for women to fit into a stylish shoe. Those people with chronic arch problems will gladly pay $500 for the relief. Makes your shoe feel like it was custom made for your foot. But like most things, you need to go to a good specialist, get what you pay for.
I have flat feet and never knew until my husband told me he said when I’m upstairs it sounds like a elephant is walking
Flat feet and over pronating feet are entirely different things. Worrying you don’t understand this.
A wonderful company for pronated feet: OrthoticShop.com we have very flat feet and they carry sandals, slippers, business wear, running shoes, booties, boots that are technologically a great relief! They are amazing at correcting the pronation, we walk without tiring and our feet are not turning inside.
I hope Ryan had good birthday! I have flat feet but my oldest son has extreme flat feet. At 15 he had surgery at Shriners Hospital to break his tibia, rotate it straight and move his knee cap. He had one leg then the other 4 months later. They said he needed his femurs done but aged out before he could. They got him in custom orthotics that worked great, but when he out grew them the person that made the new ones didn’t do a good job. They hurt his feet really bad. They wouldn’t fix them and now he just hurts bad all the time. I am going to share this video with him. Thank you for the info!
Can you please expose the company Good Feet. They are a ripoff and their “system” is not worth it.
I wish they made better work boots and runners for flat feet and orthotics. I have really bad flat feet. My last orthotics I believe were to soft and made wrong. No support. I have new ones now. But unsure if they fit really well or lacking support. Almost feels flat under my feet. I’ve seen 3 to 4 podiatrist. Hard to get the correct help.
Impeccable timing gents!! I’ve been meaning to purchase new shoes
What can I do for legs that are different lengths? This exacerbates my back problems…
I had two sets of bulky custom orthotics that did nothing then I got the expensive over the counter arch supports and my plantar fasciitis went away within a very short time. Just as you said, it’s a guess and what works for one doesn’t always work for someone else. Same with shoes, some people love New Balance but they don’t work for me at all. I wear Brooks (running shoes) for walking and they’ve been the best.
What about my feet that widen about one inch when I step down?
Can you recommend any (relatively inexpensive) fairly rigid orthotic arch support inserts for Men? I’m a shoe size 12 and weigh 185 lbs. and play a lot of golf along with regular exercising…thanks.
My doctor said I had flexible arches. That when I stand on them, they collapse. Got a horrible case of plantar fasciitis.
Thanks for the info. My Podiatrist made insoles for me. I’m going to try this…
I was one of those patients whose ankle pronated to the floor. I also had severe tibialis tendinitis. The pain was so bad I could only walk on the outer side of that foot. I ended up with a calcaneal osteotomy to rebuild the arch. Unfortunately my orthopedic surgeon never once recommended post surgical PT much less orthotics to keep my arch working right. About a year later though, my chiropractor fitted me for custom orthotics. I wear them constantly with good quality footwear like in this video. My feet feel great 9 years later.
i use motion control and have different insoles… to help my pronation.
I’ve been flat footed for as long as I can remember, and bunions, and broke my right foot across the arch, tore muscles and ligaments.. now have a HARD time being on my feet for long periods of time. Wake up the next day and cry just putting my feet on the floor..
So much miss information in this video its unreal. Telling people custom and off the shelf orthotics are the same is untrue. And you should not have your orthotics made from a chiropractor. It is out of their scope of practice. Ryan the test subject has mild pes planus or flat feet. This video does not address the issue with calcaneal valgus that almost always accompanies true pes planus. And off the shelf orthotics do not treat the calc, control the heel and the rest of the foot follows. You need your custom orthotics made by an orthotist, not a podiatrist or chiropractor. Properly casted and designed custom foot orthotics work. If you your feet are “fixed” by OTS foot orthotics you most likely didn’t need them to begin with. True pes Plano valgus (flat feet) is an issue with low tone through the foot and becomes a bony structural issue. Stepping out of your scope of practice here…..
Does having flat feet cause your knees to tilt inwards slightly? I notice that if I’m standing and lift the insides of my feet slightly my knees feel better aligned.
Motion control shoes are going to have heavy arch support. Won’t this just make the arch weaker? It seems like your advice here contradicts advice given in the video on how to improve balance.
I currently wear inner soles to help my arch. If I bought these motion control trainers would I still need an inner sole?
Also, I’ve heard great things about an American company called “Good Feet” anyone know of a UK equivalent recommendation?
i had heel spurs and great arches. custom orthotics help the plantar facitis pain. heel pain finally got so bad cortisone shots no longer helped. after heel spur surgery i now have flat feet and much pain when barefoot. wore brooks for years then got bunions. to avoid surgery i now wear widest shoe i could find, mens NB 6E wide for bunion relief. fit at back but front feels like got on a roomy house shoe! happy feet!!! elastic strings help with arthritis in hands. yeah i.m a bit of a mess but still upright and movin forward!!! love your videos.
You don’t need to correct flat feet. There’s nothing correct, you have no arch, it’s flat! The only people who need arch support are people who have arches!! Get it arch support, supporting the arch, flat feet people don’t need arch supports or correction. Changing the way body mechanics and walking is un natural and can cause more issues with your bones in your legs. Walking barefoot is best way to walk. All this correction and stability shoes is messing people’s legs and feet up. Snake oil salesman trying to sell you arch supports and pronation correction shoes.
hey guys, I have been doing something called “earthing” and have found my foot pain is annihilated while I am barefoot. Real nice shoes, for me, are like some reboks that are super sqishy and almost not a shoe. when I wear my gvmt regulated “saftey shoes” with no flex and splay, they reck my feet. no matter what arch or insole. I probably am flat, but I walk nice with bare feet and with the shoes I “hop”. ie walk like a dork. my heels don’t generally hurt, so I don’t think I have problems cause when I walk barefoot I go heel toe, but with bulshit shoes I go full toe with the hop thing. any advice would be golden.
With glasses you can see better, but your eyes won’t be better and your eye muscles won’t be stronger. Same consequences with the shoes Brad mentioned in the video: you (probably temporarly) walk better, but your feet won’t be stronger and healthier. In general, using (traditional) shoes our feet do not have to work and during our life they become weaker and weaker. Consequences: flat feet, hammertoes, hallux valgus and such. Specific exercises and a few hours barefoot walking on a daily base will make your feet stronger again and give them good working biomechanics. This is THE solution against flat feet.
You should do a video on non slip shoes for the restaurant people!
My experiences have always been that arch supports give me tendonitis in my arch. Maybe ill have to try again though my knees need the support.
I really just Like being barefoot, I more so just walk in the balls of my feet so it’s not much of problem. It’s when I pit shoes on a loose that fine motor control in my foot that they really go flat.
My problem is if they feel good on I end up w bad cramping at night
Do these motion control shoes have a big bump for arch support?
I can remember being in first grade, looking for shoes for back to school, and being frustrated because so many have this big bump inside the pressed against the bottom of my foot. Shoes with arch support hurt me until the arch support breaks down.
This isn’t a matter of getting arch support for a nonexistent arch, is it? Mine are extremely flat. In fact, I was probably an adult when I realized most people had an arch. Or what that actually looks like.
Ive had ankle fracture, like a year ago and I didn’t walk on it for 8 months, and I had two surgeries, and now it is so weak, smaller and very flat
“Have to try on 5 or 6 pairs of shoes” made me want to laugh & cry at the same time. I have horrible feet to fit shoes (flat, wide & toes go straight across like Fred Flinstone) & it takes hours at the store or like 5 rounds of multiple shoe Zappos orders.:( I second someone else’s comment that I would love a video about shoes for wide feet with great arch support.
I’d like to mention than a couple decades ago, almost every shoe had a steel spring in the sole to support the arch. If you consult a shoemaker doing custom ones he will probably do this aswell. But I guess the research team from Nike and Adidas haven’t figured out this ancient technique.
I feel more videos are necessary as I was always interested in how the feet should move, when striking the ground while running as an example. With professional Marathon runners I observe, that their arch collapses significantly and the feet also pronate, yet the tibia and knee stay aligned. Neither tibia nor knee are rotating inwards. A look from above the feet would be helpful too. I worked on stabilising my feet but I #m unsure if I’m overdoing it. My arch is pretty solid now, but there is still a tendency for the foot to roll inwards.
I’m 55, flat feet all my life. One doctor told me I have duck feet. Shoes with a hard arch hurts my feet. I just started having ankle and feet pain this year.
I just got a flashback to the days (nights) when Dad was “feeling good’ and he would break out in a little ditty, “Flat foot floogie with a floy, floy, Flat foot floogie with a floy, floy, Floy doy, floy doy, floy doy. Yeah, yeah yeah, byah, oh, baby!”
I’m not a flat-footer though I like it the best when I’m walking on a floor without anything on my feet…a flat, hard surface under my feet, that’s the stuff.
Fun flash back: the guys past video on flat feet. Watch both to get diff info.
https://youtu.be/5O_JMpwN8kc
They have other good videos on flat feet and inserts. Just search ‘bobbrad flat feet’ (or inserts). Cheers
You can go online to Asics.com and it will tell you if a particular shoe is best for over, under, or neutral pronation which is VERY helpful.
I love my new balance women’s motion control shoes better than orthotics
I would agree that not every person needs custom orthotics. I am a podiatrist. Your reference to a chiropractic orthotic is laughable. There are some podiatrists I would not recommend for custom orthotics. But chiropractors know very little about the foot. Furthermore, it is important to understand the source of the llatfooi, i.e. frontal plane, sagittal plane or transverse deformity resulting in the flatfoot. Some of what you say is reasonable. Some is showing your lack of knowledge about the flatfoot deformity. And I agree that not everyone needs a custom orthotic.
What kind of shoes is that? The rigid one. I have really flat feet.
Wow. Thanks for this information. Gonna find my fiance indoor/outdoor foot wear for his “flat feet”.
Doc, I have flat feet and super wide feet and I am overweight. Everytime after a run or during mid run the outside of my foot (along the pinky toe) starts to hurt like crazy. It also hurts above the achilles (the back of my lower leg). What shoe do you recommend? Or, should I get insoles? Please help me out! Thanks!
What about Ascics? Which shoe if I have bad knee problems and overweight?
I am 21 years old. I always workout. Trying to stay in safe for the Marine corps boot camp or fire academy ( which ever comes first. Military is taking for ever). Mostly everyday. Just last week while running my whole calf on both legs started to hurt and get tight while running. Next day went running same thing. And the next. So i stopped running for a bout a week. Today i workout. Then when i started to do air squats; under my foot started to cramp up. I know i have flat feet. I’ve been using some Reebok cross fit shoes. I guess it’s time to invest into other shoe. I am in good shape but with this foot and calf pain i get during workouts. Makes me not want to workout.
What might help is to lose weight I need to lose weight so I’m trying to fast atm
I have had flat feet since birth and shoes that have arch support kill my feet, extremely painful as the minutes go by while walking.
Absolutely Wrong!!!!! Five years ago when there was nothing wrong with my feet I decided to spend a lot of money at, The Good Feet Store. I thought it would prevent injury to get these shoe inserts for all of my shoes. In a short time my feet and hips went down hill. It’s been at least five years from this terrible decision and I’m now correcting the horrible pain in my feet and hips simply with walking barefoot and using Xero Shoes. OMG the pain is going away and my feet are NO LONGER IN CASTS. Shoes are casts and the feet can’t do their job on their own when when their in casts.
7:15 Yooo ive seen that low rider ankle b4. bitch looked like she had Power Puff Girl feet. #anklesonly
I have been wearing Virbam five finger shoes full-time for now over 2 and 1/2 years. I now have no longer flat feet, weak arches, weak abductor muscles, plantar faciitis, chronic fungus infection between my toes, weak ankles no more. Forget arch supports.
How do I fix supinated feet? My feet are very supinated. I’ve been told it’s because I’m so fat. I’ve been losing weight (over 100 lbs down,) but what should I do in the meantime?
Hi guys!!! I am 62, had Bi-lateral knee replacements 15 months ago..My
R ankle over pronates due to rolling my ankle when I was 17..which is
making my knee turn causing my tendons to pull..I recently bought a
Motion Control Athletic shoe, but the sole seem way to hard, &
wearing them make me feel bowlegged..lol..any
suggestions??THANK-YOU!!!!!
Wow! I have 2 sets of custom orthotics and this is the first time I’ve heard I don’t need to spend 400 plus for each pair to get results
I work in a distribution warehouse. I work 10 hours a day on my feet. Nonstop on my feet. My feet are flat. My calf hurt as well. Will this shoe work for me please?
Hi Bob & Brad, just found this video & I was wondering, what is your alls opinion on the Dr Scholl’s custom fit orthotics you can get at a kiosk and are they good for long term or if using them long term will it be worse on the body in regards to body alignment and/or gait from feet up to the back?
The reason I ask is because my daughter’s pediatric rheumatologist suggested some arch supports for her flat feet & so we tried the Dr. Scholl’s kiosk & it had her do some simple “tests” by standing on both feet, standing on one foot, then the other, leaning forward and weight bearing on one foot then the other. The kiosk recommended an insole based on the movements she performed, which I believe was C220. They were $50 with a $10 off coupon making them $40, plus tax. As soon as she put them in her shoes and put her shoes on, you could see a HUGE difference. Her feet went from looking like she was standing on her arches with her weight completely flattening them to making her stand “normal” with a normal gait. She hasn’t complained of back pain in the last 3 weeks since wearing them, which previous to buying them she complained her back hurt quite frequently. She also says they are comfortable & she doesn’t complain about pain when she is having to walk around for more than an hour. These seem to be working really good for her.
What do you recommend when you foot is crooked in a shoe? No matter what shoe my foot is always off the heel. But my toes fit on the shoe. My ankle is close to floor and no foot dr will help were I am living. Any suggestions?
Exactly, a doctor here in Windsor Ontario made me buy 4 different custom arches, I spent a lot of money and I went back to tell him that my son’s feet were getting worse and he said oh he needs another kind $400 per foot. I’m so mad, some doctors don’t care about children but about their own pockets.
I have flat feet and my knees turn in that causes major back issues and sciatica. I am always looking for inserts. Had trouble since I was little.
My feet are like Bob’s…big arches. I have to have support under my heals that raise my heals a bit, because my feet don’t flex when I walk. I prefer the gel heals in running shoes. Happy Birthday Ryan!
I can’t agree with this. I have been with completely flat feet since a toddler. For years doctors have told me that I need shoes with support, that I will have pain without them, that I will not be able to walk one day. This is a total BS. Supporting the feet is never a solution. Building and strengthening the muscles is. I discovered barefoot shoes (Vivobarefoot) about 3 years ago. I never felt better walking and running. I still have flat feet when standing still, but I have a strong arch when walking. I don’t have any stability issues (I can deadlift double my bodyweight and squat with 1.5).
Recommending feet support is like recommending to take the elevator when you have problems to take the stairs for the second floor.
Any suggestions for my 11yo son whom had Achilles & heel chord lengthening surgery now leaving him flat foot. Always searching for support for summertime so he’s able to go sort of barefoot
Maam I am a runner i have flexible flat feet and also have lower leg pain in my heel and ankle.it is also cramps and sensation. So How can i get know that this pain is cause of flat feet.
If it is cause of flat feet so can i get rid of this pain by continue my running.
please reply maam
Yeah my feet are extremely flat my whole foot is on the ground (had a scan done) and now my ankle collapses inward I will try these no motion shoes
I have flat-ish feet and personally have gone the complete opposite way to this, most footwear don’t have a wide enough toe box to allow the big toe to support the arch properly. Some minimalist and barefoot shoes do allow more space in the toe box which helps your foot to support itself naturally. In theory all these motion control and arch support shoes help with is weakening your foot muscles. I don’t want to be wearing support shoes/slippers around the house, I see my grandparents with flat feet struggle at home with balance because they wear rock like slippers with ‘arch support’. I refuse to believe that after billions of years of evolution, a huge portion of the population are born with defective feet that need to be encased in shoes like solid rock.
I haven’t been wearing barefoot shoes for too long yet but I feel better in them, I used to get very sore arches and feel like I was getting shin splints after being in shoes all day but that stopped after I switched to minimalist shoes. I don’t know if it’s for everyone, especially older people or people with flatter feet than me but I would say test the waters out a bit, if you can walk around at home barefoot it shouldn’t be too much of a jump, just be conscious if you personally can avoid that inward rotation of the ankle. Start easy if you choose to transition.
Hi, I know you can’t give advice so I won’t listen… but, when I run I get blisters on my arches. Mainly right foot. It’s like I want a shoe without the ridge in the arch. I want it flat. Does that show exist. I’m using Hoka at the moment.
Hey bob and brad! Your channel is looking good… you all seem like you might be making some money…. have you considered a better camera and lighting to shoot your video?
It can probably make a big difference.
✌️
I had flat feet and knock knees since i can remember, i can’t wear shorts because kids made fun of shape of my legs. for a long time, my feet doesn’t hurt at all, i only feel really streesful after a lot exercise. maybe my feet have evolved after years exercise.
I have feet that literally behave like pancakes when I put weight on them. The grow about an inch wider, it’s insane. And completely flat to the point where I’m starting to develop a callous on the bone that is in the middle of my arch. Bunions and tailors bunions because they spread so much. I’ve been told I need custom orthotics because my big toe is messed up as well, but after watching this I’m not so sure. My off the shelf heat modified ones are good and a compromise between off the shelf and full customs $220 AUD, but the ultimate problem seems to be that the connective tissue in my feet is made of soup. I’d probably be better off with some kind of compression sock to help control the spread. Any ideas?
I found you Guy’s by accident and Boy how lucky was I. I don’t have flat feet but I do notice that after a long day in certain shoes I get a pain in my heel the next day. Any suggestions?
The foot in the pic is so flat that i had to look at it for a sec to realize what it was
My cousin got flat feet after being over weight for 5 years. No doctor warned her so that she could get supports. Do a search for DIY silicone supports.
I really appreciate how practical and how real you all are. I agree with you that if something is going to help my feet I’m going to feel the relief immediately. I’m not going to have to wait and see and adjust to it over time. They are paying games when it comes to flat fee I don’t understand why that is.
I’ve been using custom orthotics for 30 years, and most don’t work too well. I recently found an insert made by orthofeet that works very well, and gives me more relief than my $400 custom orthotics.
Exercises like calf raises, jump rope and basketball fixed my sons flat feet pain.
I have congenital pes planus & the foot doctor said it’s caused by the ligament laxity in my knees. I have arch-support orthotics & was advised to ice my knees whenever I get those painless “pop” in the knee bones. Nice looking arch, Bob!
I’ve probably invested around 1 thousand on inserts and special treatments and see no difference what so ever.
That kid has nothin on my flat feet…flat as pancakes my feet are, pressure or no.
This is a helpful video. My chiropractor told me that as a 31 year old female I have severely flat feet and the worst he’s ever seen. Hes pretty taken back by them so he’s helped me get custom orthotics and I’m looking for a goof pair of shoes for flat feet and someone who is active. It seems most shoes just don’t help me, so I’m on the lookout for new ones that actually really support me.
I have been running since I was a kid, now 70 odd yrs later, no problems with the feet. This, after I was told, I was flat footed. I feel if you go bare foot, a lot of the time, as nature intended, you develop strong feet. This can be for life
Any arch support hurts my feet. I don’t have flat feet, nor high arches, but wear flat & wide shoes. I usually get a men’s shoe (which can be hard to find a size 7.5) because they tend to fit better. For years the skater style was the only shoe that was comfortable. Work boots are also tough to find. So many factors impact the fit & availability.
My 9 year old has had a slight pigeon toe on one foot since birth. Is it too late to fix something like that.
My foot Doc made me one with elastic bandage tape and a pad, it works as good and no extra charge. My 300 hundred dollar ones I got from another doc hurt my foot. and my insurance would not pay for it.
I’m 67 and when I was very young a doctor recommended that he break the bones in my feet and reset them so I wouldn’t be flat footed. My parents said no. I wore arch supports for a while and stopped for a long time. Then about thirty years ago I started again. I stopped again a few year ago because my chiropractor recommended. Haven’t had a problem while working out.
I have posterior tibialis tendonitis and was referred to a special store that sold motion control shoes and expensive orthotics. The orthotics are worn down and are flat now. I was reading that orthotics act as a crutch and do not allow your feet to get stronger. I try to walk barefoot, stand on one foot for balance and walk on my toes. It has slowly gotten better.
I have tarsal coalition and it can be excruciatingly painful. I really think surgery is my only option.
For your giveaways need how to info? Not at all user friendly.
Actually I have a question. I have custom made orthotics. Should I throw them out and get a store bought one like the ones you suggested. I have shin splints even with short walks. Thank you.
What?! I’ve never (except once) had a shoe feel good. They always rub in some area or another, usually the heel, and the only comfortable shoe I did have didn’t support my arch and after a month, my lower back hurt so much that I hobbled, not realizing it was my comfortable shoes causing it.
What about those with very high arches? I have had problems with plantar faciitis for years (pain behind the big toe). Custom orthotics seem to help. What does the research show?
Orthotics do not work for Flat Feet. If you ever plan on having a strong foot, you will delay or worsen that process with every day you wear them.
If you have flat feet, change your footwear first, charlatans will sell you everything, but what will fix the problem, so you can pay for their child’s tuition.
im flat footed and suffer severe runners knees..the kind of i cant walk 1 miles in the week, not the kind that give a lil pain after a 10 miles run… i cant walk 50 feet without my custom orthepedic, pain is almost immediate and will last at least 3 days..cheap ones never done nothing for me. if you suffer from the same problem invest in computer made orthepedic.
Good evening, Let me thank you both for this great information, also for the experiment you showed of the water foot print.
I’ve had custom orthotics for almost 15 years-the same pair, still working great. I wear them in my athletic shoes when I walk for exercise (3-6 miles, three times/week). I’d be in agony without them (as I discovered when I forgot them when I went on vacation once). I use off-the-shelf inserts for daily use. My podiatrist is professional and careful, and it seems irresponsible and unprofessional to suggest that it’s all film flam. I also use high stability running shoes, and my town is fortunate to have a great athletic shoe store that takes the time to fit properly and accepts returns readily. They even accommodated someone I know who needs two different size shoes because of childhood polio-only charged her for one pair even though they had to break up the pairs to fit her.
Quite interesting. Could you possibly do something about foot problems caused by too-high arches and/or bow legs?
jut a curious question. So what is good for people who have high arches but weak ankles?
I have high arches but lately my left foot arch got a sharp burning pain that felt like a pulled muscle. I’ve had pain for 2 months now & have to wear arch bands even when barefoot or it happens again. The pain goes up my ankle now. I guess cheap but cute shoes are a thing of the past. I’m investing in vionic brand shoes. Thanks for all the info!
What about minimalist shoes? There seems to be a discrepancy on what’s good for runners.
in a youtube you did 3 years ago you stated that using inserts was bad and to do exercises instead, have you changed your mind on that?
I’m glad to hear the information that you both give. So many times people say you need to break in your shoes which I never believed. And your feet are very important, looks without good functionality are no longer great shoes I believe. This thinking needs to continue in order to help other people understand how connected the body is.
I’m sold on Vionic shoes. I even use their inserts for my other shoes.
So happy I found your videos! Thank you for putting content out there. I have a question. I have textbook flat feet and need arch support with my 2″ wedge sandals. Are there arch only inserts you recommend? Thanks again for all you do!
Read on for true fixing of the feet. Arch support is a mini crutch, never use them. True fixing of ones foundation: One must strengthen the feet by first strengthening the toes and midfoot in their full range of motion in all directions and extending the heel (calcaneus). This is all linked up and into the glutes, so one cannot truly fix it without addressing the glute medius and surrounding areas. Best way to do all this is yoga. Standing split, or airplane pose, then turning the body to each side while standing on one leg, then going up on toes. Also walk and train barefoot as much as humanly possible. Push the limits. Hot and cold treatment as well, + tens machine all over foot. You will fix your feet and be able to reach athletic potential and build full, massive arches. Your effort has to match that of a body builder. You are growing new feet through growing and retensioning ligaments, capillaries and muscles. Wearing tight shoes makes the nerves turn off in the foot, toes specifically, and the toes go weird directions, muscles atrophy, you get injury and you get flat feet. I solved the knowledge side for you, now put in that effort and live your dreams.
I buy Cadence insoles on Amazon recommended by my pediatrist for my plantar fasciitis. They make all the difference in the world…
Chiropractor just told me I need arch support. Sold me a pair. Thanks for this. I am by nature, skeptical. I’ll try them… guess my socks aren’t very supportive.
great advice =I usually use inserts = I will try those exercises, thanks john
Excellent update…thank you! Would love a video on bunion pain relief.
I had to quit my warehouse job at Amazon because the pain from my flat feet after constantly lifting boxes all day was WAY too much. It built up a whole lot. Everything hurt from my feet to my neck.
I even have custom orthotics. They helped, but they aren’t meant for 10 hours of standing on reinforced concrete.
I can’t say enough good things about the $30 Walk-Fits. I along with my father had Plantar Fasciitis due to wearing baseball cleats. He saw the infomercial and tried a pair. Within 2 months his plantar fasciitis was healed. I had plantar fasciitis for over a year and had tried cortisone shots, stretching, strengthening, shoe cushion inserts ect..and nothing helped. 2 months of wearing the walk-fits and my plantar fasciitis was healed. I disagree with the statement made that “If it hurts don’t use/buy it” because when you wear the walk-fits you cannot wear them for an extended period of time for the first few weeks. It even says that in their instructions. They do irritate/hurt you feet after you wear them for even only a short period of time when you first begin wearing them. But after a few weeks/month or so you can wear them longer and longer until you have them in the entire day. I continue to play baseball, basketball, work out in the gym ect… and I have a pair in each of my shoes. I have flat feet and without them my feet hurt and both of my knees hurt. When I wear them my knee pain goes away and my feet feel great. I don’t own stock in the company, I’m not a distributor, I don’t work there ect.. I’m just a person who suffered with very sore feet and knees and the walk-fits aligned things and have taken the pain away. Simply incredible..I would have never thought that a $30 shoe insert could have that much impact on my physical well being.
I have a flat feet, but ever seen so tryed eating tie pods my feet healed them self
I have been wearing Arcopedico for years. Great support but they are vegan and my feet stink. What is a good leather dress shoe for women?
I know flat feet is a thing but people never talk about arch feet, which are a pain in the a$$ too, i would love some advises
Can someone please reply what’s the name of this product? I have flat feet and really want one.
I always thought the 500 price tag on customs was an insurance scam. None of them ever helped me. Best thing is lots of stretching. Years of meds have made a mess of my tendons and what not.
My son was diagnosed with flat feet. What can you guys tell me that I need to know? I am looking for an orthopedic to check him this month. I am so worried
What about feet that are flat with no weight on them. My feet have been flat my whole life and even if I just sit down and put them against each other sole to sole you can see the left one is s straight line and the right one has a very slight curve, but it’s negligible. Because I have NO natural arch, inserts ALWAYS feel like there’s something poking me so I’ve always opted to completely flat shoes or what is most comfortable because it allows my feet maximum flexibility they so desperately need barefoot.
I just got an ad about Plantar Fascitius(spell check) before this video. I skipped and wanted to know more about what it is.
I’m only 19 and Ive got terrible athletes foot and toenail/finger fungus and plantar calluses and now I can see on my root that I’ve huge calluses growing on my heels and balls on both of my feet. I’m trying to get rid of it but I’m to embarrassed to go the doctors
I have flat feet and Morton’s neuroma… can’t win. A podiatrist gave me a cortisone shot which lasted a few years but the pain came back.
GO BAREFOOT! Buy barefoot shoes, correct toes and socks. Wide toe box thus not losing the big toes alignment. We should put all our weight through the big toe as we push off. No heel, heels were added to hold horse stirrups. Heels cause anterior pelvic tilt. We were not born with our feet bound up.
