And I bought a 5 dollar made in China watch in Walmart
STONKS
Bruh I’m trying to figure out why anyone would buy anything but an Apple Watch if they use an iPhone. It does bike, running, and swimming stats and waaay more, so even if you’re looking into a triathlon you should be set? Am I wrong here?
Loved the video. Really helpful as all your videos are. Just want to mention I have big wrists and I use the fenix 5s and doesn’t seem small on my wrist at all. Tbh with weight training I feel the smaller watches are less obstructive when bending the wrists.
You are the freaking man…thank you so much for giving these reviews.
Hey buddy, I’m looking to buy a sports and fitness watch that also has a nice look, I’m a trainer but not into so many bells and whistles as you put it, but what’s important I guess, are the basic stuff like gps, heart rate monitor, a few different sport disciplines and perhaps the possibility to pay things with your watch too, like I’ve seen done watching some youtube vids…price point between 250-350€ what would you suggest? I’ve looked at the suunto 7, rose gold, love the look but what about the watch, is it good, because I’ve been reading so many mix reviews, I’ve always wanted a gramin…
Peter
Dude Taren, what watch is that? Seriously guys, do the work, the rest will sort itself out. Some days go fast, some days go far, and some days, just go (and everyone once in a while, don’t go).
Nice watching your Video, what about Garmin Venu, any Review about this watch.. Just bought mine as gift for myself in mybb-day
I own the 735xt and I use it 2 a day for running an once for a long swim. I only chage it once a week
I like using a watch as a central place to track and download workouts to an online website. This avoids doing it manually in a spreadsheet or paper log (although those will work as well). As for biometrics, that is very personal and depends your preferences. Bad news for biometrics haters: more and more of them are going to be available in the near future!
I think You got it 100% right it’s a screen…some with additional features You could say. Point clear. So it’s about the sensors You use and can the watch connect with them and record all the data.
Love Your straight out way of getting to a point…thanks a lot again, learned something again stay healthy and safe
Sorry Matt, but the intonation you have made me stop watching this review. Almost every single sentence sounds like a question, as if you were asking it. I know this is kinda irrelevant for a sport watch video but there are so many other reviews out there. I hope you don’t mind my feedback I meant this for improvement, not to diss around.
I’m training for Air Force SR, I just need to track my run times/pace, and my swim times. Both in pool and open water. What watch, that you have would you recommend?
Wow. Just came across your channel. Subscribed. I’m very old school. I have had the Garmin FR220 for many yrs. Battery sucks. Needs to be replaced. Wifey gave me the OK! Woohoo! I Bike and run. Do I get the Garmin 935 or Garmin 735… What is your opinion?
Fenix 3 is my option, and it has been going strong for a while now. But I would love to have the option of storing music on my watch
You really need to review the Garmin Approach S62!!! Please!!
Eternally jealous of how empty your pool is. There are 6,000 people to a lane in pools in London. At least.
If the Instinct played music ( so I didn’t have to carry my phone ) that would make the perfect Garmin
How would you compare this to Apple Watch.? Looking too switch from Apple Watch to this for exercise
Great video, especially for a new reviewer! I’ll have my 945 delivered by tomorrow and can’t wait. It’s my first Garmin watch and a little overkill but it’s crucial that I monitor my health while recovering from almost losing my leg 10 months ago due to diabetes. I need to monitor my oxygen levels as my heart is not healthy. Used to cycle 400 miles per month years ago and now I’ll just be using it for low impact sports. Cycling, rowing, indoor swimming and open water swimming. So I opted for the best bang for the buck.
Curious though… Have you used any reliable heartbeat straps? Like for swimming and possibly one that straps on your arm.
You only get advanced running dynamic stats with a compatible pod or HR strap
Not only for the forerunner 735xt but die all of the watches
Whats the best watch for Android users under $300 for sports tracking
Really enjoy your channel. I have just started watching. Do you have any current promotions on the 945?
I like my 920XT. Increasingly feel however like Garmin’s most recent watches are becoming similar to Gillette. Lots of eye catching features that no one really asked for.
Agree with you on the swimming stuff. A special place in hell exists for people who push off when someone’s mid turn because their watch told them to and they were paying attention to nothing else.
I use the exact same watch.. I got it because I find it as the best bang for my buck in my training towards doing a full IRONMAN (battery life especially)! In swimming it’s fairly terrible (especially HR tracking), but it’s incredibly useful for me in cycling and running. I use the clip off watch, so I can put it on my bike head unit!
I have fallen out of love with Garmin Fenix 5 sent back today after 2 months…: Wahoo on the other side are awesome….. Sent a photo from my broken chest strap…:: Not only did they replace the strap they upgraded me to a ticker x for free top service bolt will be my next computer
Why have you not made anything with the polar vantage series???
Does the Forerunner 935 work with the Garmin Connect app on my phone?
Have seen ur video, its grt, fenix 5 plus is expensive in india, can u plz review garmin instinct, wishes from india
Vivoactive 3 will be on sale 130 this weekend at Target in store and online
Do runners wear a Garmin but then find themselves bringing there iPhone for music anyway??
REI is selling the Fenix 5 (older model) for $350. Worth it? Or pay more for new Plus model?
So in conclusion all you need for triathlon training is a Casio F-91W right? Just kidding, nice video!
honestly I like tomtom runner 3 or spark more they’re just cool
Found the swim part a little harsh and the reason why? 1) No swim clock in my gym pool 2) It’s only 20 meters; so using the watch to gauge performance stats is important. Yeah, 100m times are a benchmark but seeing negative increments over time is very positive. Personally have not tried using the Garmin workout plan -> watch for swimming but will do down the line. Have a Fenix 3 Sapphire HR at the moment but bought a Forerunner 935 and actually I may sell it it on as it’s so super light and small form factor. And yeah Stryd am really enjoying using it and will see next weekend for a 41 mile Ultra Great video Taren but it does come down to watch people would like as you say
I’ve got the Garmin 735XT and like the workouts you can program on there. For example intervals with a given pace intensity for outdoor running. I also do a plank workout which goes transitions from position to position every 30 seconds. Having that workout on the watch is great as it tells me what to do and when.
currently still using the Forerunner 310XT, looking to upgrade/downgrade since I am no longer doing triathlon…looking to get back into running & cycling; kayaking; yoga; weight training. also looking for sleep/resting HR
Like Delta7 asked… can you do a detailed review and or comparison of the Tactix Charlie against the Fenix 5X Plus. I’m torn between these two watches and struggling to decide.
I’d rather buy a new phone with 700 dollars then buy a smart watch
You say many times that there is link down below with additional reviews, but there is nothing. You should not promise that you are not willing to spend the time to do.
I don’t use the watch’s HR. I use the same wahoo CHEST HR and the Garmin TRI….
So…..why the discrition says Triathlon Watch Under $200.00 and all the watches is above $300.00???
Riz! I have the forerunner 225, but I was considering buying the vivoactive 3 (As an update). Im a casual runner. I might run just 1024 miles on the week. What is your advice?
You are missing out on so much that could enhance your training. First and foremost is the Garmin Tri HRM. It’s metrics will not only give you more accurate HR than the watch, but a ton of metrics the wahoo doesn’t. It would als help with your treadmill accuracy. Granted you have the Stryd for that. Also the Garmin HRM Swim. You might not need it during your workout, but it is nice to reference that data later. Also, I find my 920XT, predecessor to the 935 to be a great bike computer. You mentioned it only as a cost saver, but set up in triathlon or brick mode, you can quickly bounce from one activity to the next and include your transition. I get not wanting to fuss with it in the pool, but it only takes a couple of sessions to really dial it in and it again it gives you better data to reference over time. If your using it to help your training, you’ll come up with a consistent start/stop for your swim workouts. If you’re doing it to impress others on social media, that’s your time to waste.
I’m not saying the Garmin 935 is the end all be all, but not even trying to tap its potential is a waste in my opinion.
Finally, your comments around HR training and not really following pace make me question your training platform. I have not tried it, so I won’t make assumptions. However the plan I follow is time/power based on the bike and time/pace based on the run. I don’t think many solid plans are HR based anymore. So I find it strange that your doing your workouts based on that.
Just my thoughts. I certainly appreciate most of your videos and really enjoy the podcast.
sell out… product pusher… i am tired of this infomercials, I am out!!!
Thanks Jeff….super informative. You are my go to man for running watches:)
Sir,
just got the Garmin 945 this week.
What alternative weather app do you recommend? Besides the one that come on the device.
Which one is better fenix 6 or suunto 5? Specially for straight training..
Only reason why I watched this was to see if the watch had GPS with directions. Is that even a thing? Like if I get lost away from home can these watches help me get back home? Thanks a bunch!
Just got Forerunner 735XT for £169.99 on Amazon. Bargain. Plus the run HR monitor for 30 extra
My overall which wasn’t in your vid would be the Garmin instinct…the watch you wear this does damn near everything and literally costs less than half
Could you do a test of the Garmin Instinct?
I’m in doubt right now I just won a Garmin Instinct yeaaahhh but I already have the 735XT.
I only need one watch but which one???
Oh what do you do with all those watches you review lol? I’m currently training for my first 100 miler and could really use one and I’m too broke lol
How about during a race to track the three disciplines + overall? And what about tracking open water swimming training. I find a good watch useful for those situations.
I have the Fenix 3HR for 3yrs already and it’s a great watch for triathlon
Can u explain the swim metric you spoke about in the swim click. I really don’t know what ur were talking… FYI I’m a nube….thanks
I use the 945 as an update vor the 910xt. Big step. The watch is great. Music and navigation and still very light 50g.
I use the same watch.i charge it once every 2 weeks.as to tracking, very helpful especially in cycling
best 2019 is a terrible title for an obsolete video that doesn’t account for new releases cos it’s published in 2018. i can’t trust click bait Dishonesty and am UNSUBSCRIBING
Where was this video in January when I splashed out for a Fenix 5 Plus?! Jokes aside, another great video. What you say is absolutely right. I had a Polar M400 and only changed because it didn’t track swimming. So I paid a fortune for something to track swimming, which was stupid. I use my watch in much the same way as you do. Having said that the Fenix 5 Plus is a great watch to wear all the time so I have no complaints.
Hi thanks for info, but, can you tell me about best watch in battery
Is the fénix 6 better than fenix 5s plus? As far as I know the fenix 5s and 5x are better?
poor Riz! his tone changed when talking about fenixes. hang on buddy
I know cool angles are… Well… Cool. But maybe less of them and more just regular side by side comparison and on your wrist etc to gauge the size of the watch:) i would personally find that helpful as I have teeny tiny wrists
Does the 945 main watch face display a live heart rate? The 245 has this capability so you don’t need to scroll to see it. Thanks for the review.
I just subscribed because of your Dunder Mifflin shirt. No joke.
They do look very similar! I’m happy with my 935 though, but thanks for the review, if my 935 were to ever break, I’ll definitely go for the 945 (until the next model comes out haha).
Hey Scott I agree with your comments on the GARMIN 935 (excepted sometimes some hiccups on the swim 😉 ). I have a question when you do 30/30 on the bike What is the difference between standing up to push hard or staying on your seat?
Really enjoyed this, Scott! Been on the hunt for fellow triathlon bloggers and there really aren’t that many of us around! Really enjoyed this great to see your sessions and a really cool watch over view having rinsed a 910 for all its worth and still finding the 920 adequate I am fed up with HRM straps breaking on me and giving up… so I foresee the wrist HRM becoming part of my 2020 season..! How accurate do you think the wrist HRM is on the 935 compared to a chest strap?
You should’ve gone with the Garmin Fenix sapphire 5X. HRM Tri and a bike sensor. I love mine and it’s great to help me keep my training up to date and the data. I just don’t use the music, phone and the pay function. When I’m working out, I think that’s my time so I stay away from phone calls and just think about the workout.
I use the 935 watch too (with glass screen protector so it’s a Forerunner 935 sapphire…), I’m open water swimmer and for pool training I use the pace clock, but sometimes I like to use the watch simply because I register some training on it with the calendar.
think this could be next purchase! i have the garmon fenix and this one looks much more less weight but the same features
I agree with your watch opinions, I have had the 935 and 945 and the 945 has a few more features. But do you really need music on your watch? Come on. I reviewed them and compared them on my channel and I recommend people snag the 935 if they want to save money. I think the most critical features are tracking triathlon sports and battery for a full ironman. 935 takes care of what’s important.
Ok pool friendly, how about open water. Im basically looking for an only swim watch.
So glad i watched this. Common sense and saved me spending a lot of cash on this watch. I’ll just stick with the vivoactive music!
THANKS A MILLION FOR AN EXCELLENT JOB WELL DONE DEAR SIR…
Like your videos. Do you get paid by Garmin. I have own Garmin products since they moved to wrist-based tracking with the 201. The batteries in these products don’t last more than 2 years before they need to be replaced. This may be a standard, but it is important to consider when you are spending a premium for these products.
945:):)
Ps: use a cheap edge as secondary monitor for your forerunner. Much easier compared to your complicated setup imho.
Just swim, ride and run!
Thanks Taren. Where the good money is!
Two key words: “Cracks on Sensor”… internet full of people with this issue. Mine 935 got cracks after 10 months. Dissapointed as f*@k.
I have the older 920XT and mainly use it so I can program in my workouts to keep track of things when doing lots of sets etc apart from that, agree that the pool clock is really all you need
HR sensors are cracking in these devices. Mine got broken after 10 months. Garmin forum full of people with 3 and more replacements (whole range of garmin watches). Garmin support help (online manual) sugest that it shouldn’t be used at pool (so Garmin… thriatlon or not?) due to chlorine in water that may damage the sensor. I think it’s more like thermal damage, but well… meh. Good thing is that they keep replacing them and you refresh your warranty (at least in my country).
I am pretty new to Tri. I got the 735xt on sale on amazon and my reason is so it bundles the activity as one activity. I was thinking of cycling with the Edge 520+ so I can see the data but record using my 735xt. Great videos, learning alot. I never wanted to do a Triathlon because I can’t swim so I signed up for lessons, finally!
Running along that river looks incredible. You could be stuck here out in the sticks at the Cradle.
Hi Taren! Do you prefer the Wahoo Bolt over the Garmin Edge?
I’m old enough to remember when the Timex Ironman was the best tri watch around.
Taren / others what do you think about timex Ironman watches for training?
College swammer, Pace clock and a big ol whiteboard is all I used in my swimming career. Swimming wise now I use my watch exact same as you
I love my 935 it rocks! PS. I would love to see a video of how the people at your pool view you. I can only imagine what folks would say if I talked to a camera at my gym AND filmed. Now I would assume people are use to it, but could you explain the journey or progression of that?
Luckily i bought a right garmin watch Fenix 5 plus anyway it was awesome watch
I have the 935 as Well…the only time i use it during an activity is while running (Heart Rate,Intervalls etc) while swimming i Sometimes use it for structured training (i create it Garmin Connect so i dont have to memorize it) and barely at all while biking…however, i always track my Training so i can review my workouts and see If im improving over time…in my point of view that is the main reason i have this watch
I got the forerunner 25 and I know it’s a tough watch but it has two problems which made me switch to a different watch, battery life and that it has an issue charging. You put it to charge and it might charge or it might not. I upgrade to the forerunner 245
Hi Riz,
I’ve started training for a marathon and
I’m looking for a watch that will notify me once a I’ve reached a distance.
For example I’d like to do 4 times 400m and then jog for 200 metres and then 4 times 200 metres then jog 100 metres.
Is there a watch i can program it in and it will notify me once I’ve reached it?
I’d appreciate if you could help me
Thanking you in advance
Regards
Naser
Good day Rizknows will you please review the Garmin Swim 2. I currently have the Suunto Spartan trainer wrist hr, and even though it is a great watch, the strap has broken three times in the last year. Which really sucks. Definitely considering to buy the Garmin Swim 2. Will really appreciate your input
Can you detail review the Garmin Tactix Charlie? Is not a really detail review and features on this watch. Also how you can compare it with Fenix 5x Plus.
Grace is definitely not impressed with the wrap-up part of the video man:) I couldn’t focus on you, I kept looking at her:)
Cat crap; the anti-fog product, not feline feces; is what I use to keep me goggles clear so I can see the pool clock.
Gracie’s look while you explain! Also: wrong coffee mug Any specific reason why you got rid of your 920xt?
used both watch fenix 5 and edge 820 (which i want to upgrade to 1030) we all love our metrics great video
I own samsung gear s3 frontier, But i realy want to buy a garmin watch. I think 935 or the badass fenix 5x is a great watch for me. Thanks for a great video.
TarenI would be interested in knowing what power and cadence meters you use? Do you like the power meter that you have and how does it compare with the power rating from your trainer?
does the running 25 track walking,hiking,swimming,resting heart/calorie?
Hi, I’d like to run-and-walk. Does the 735XT provide programming say, “2 mins run 1 min walk” intervals?
So I have searched high and low for a comparison between the forerunner 945 and the Suunto 9 baro. Are you familiar enough with the 9 to shed some light on this?
I have the fenix 5x and the Tickrx
The issue I have is the tickrx overwrites the other metrics the fenix has
Riz! Please tell people that the backlight on the Phoenix 5 is horrible. That’s the major downfall. Paying that much for a watch you can barely see outside. I can’t believe you didn’t bring this up. Bought it and it was the reason I returned it. HORRIBLE
This video is being used for paid views. Did you authorise it?
