Hey! Is there a shoe that is most similar in durability, structure and support as the original Adidas Barricade (back when Novak had Adidas). I switch to Nike vapors, they feel great, but are too lightweight and they don’t have enough ankle support when moving or sliding. Thank you!
Hey TW, a noticed a couple of reviewers mention it feels lighter than the 7. But your website lists its weight as a few ounces more than the 7 though. What gives?
for the Adidas stycon, just look for tennis warehouse review, the dude was sliding so hard he needs to put his hand down on a HARD COURT
I’d love for Asics to drop the Noosa colorways on the newer Gel Resolutions like a few years ago with the Gel Res 4 & 5.
I LOVED THOSE COLORWAYS..Shoulda’ stocked up on a few pairs when I had the chance
I use the barricade code, anything similar? Sad that they got discontinued
Why you don’t put the shoe on the scale as you do with the racquet?
Hey Michelle, I’ve historically worn the Nike Vapor 9.5s but they don’t make them anymore. While I obviously liked the look of them, they genuinely just fit my foot arch etc etc perfectly. I bought a pair of the Vapor 10s just because and they actually gave me knee problems cause they are just a totally different shoe. Any advice for me would be massively appreciated. Which shoe do I go with now??
Best tennis shoes evereverKSwiss, period! My personal preference is the big shot, but the hypercourt not far behind. Next best shoe asics
ASICS Gel-Challenger always struck me as a better shoe, enough cushioning and a whole lot lighter
I recently bought the Asics Gel Resolution (AGR) 8 in size 12M Mako Blue, which is replacing a 4-month old New Balance Lavs (Lavs), which in turn replaced the Asics Gel Res (AGR) 7. AGR8 is first-class to the coach-class+ of the Lavs and AGR7. AGR8 is out-of-box comfortable and started molding to my feet as I wore them. The shoes uppers are surprisingly flexible, and I liked it over the cheap looking knit and plastic materials on the Lavs, which appears worse and worse with wear. Despite wearing the Lavs for over 4 months, they have only now started opening up the way these AGR8 have in a short time. Although the shoes are “heavy,” they do not wear heavy. I now chase after balls on the court that I did not go after in the Lavs. I move better in these than I did in the Lavs and AGR7. Its width was another surprise since it is much improved over AGR7 and was more comfortable than the Lavs, even though I got the Lavs in 2E width. The AGR8’s traction and stability are winners. I am nitpicking to find negatives, but the shoes get warm with extended wear. This is no worse though than what I found with the Lavs or previous versions of AGR or the now defunct Barricades. The waist of the shoes also seems to have excess material on the right foot than on the left, but this could be a slight manufacturing defect with the make of the right shoe or could just be my foot. These are minor flaws and do not detract from what to me is a class leading and premium tennis shoes. I will be ordering another pair.
Which would be the best overall? I’m a guy and have normal feet
You are hilarious. What is a good stiff shoe for women? I don’t want to use Prince any more because who knows how long they will be around.
big fan of your videos, but if I may, for BEST videos… don’t you think it should be limited to 5? how many shoes can be launched in one year (+_+) racket i can understand as on item can come in many version.. mp, s, tour, pro, lite, team… but other items should be limited to 5 i think (ex: shoes, string, grip, etc). Again, still loving your videos and channel!!! keep up the good work
This channel is getting better cool shop wish you best of luck hope government keeps you afloat. You know people will watch and then buy there crap on Amazon. Nothing like local retail.
can you do a review of open string pattern, wilson 105s steamer, wilson ultra 105,wilson clash 108,and yonex ezone 105-or 108?keep up the great work stay safe!
Has Adidas made any updates to the Stycon since its first iteration (besides this new colorway)? My general impression of the shoes from previous TW videos is that they excel in durability and stability (to the point of being considered “bulky”) but are prohibitively uncomfortable after longer periods of play. That sounds like a deal breaker, but I should probably try them for myself before I pass judgement.
An Ubersonic 3 fanatic
What racquet is Jason using? The white head one specifically. It looks like the same color scheme racquet as the one Coco Gauff is using for the AO2020
Mizuno looks good but with limited and boring colors. Hopefully they will add some more colors and models.
I wish I could try these shoes. Having wide feet I am limited to either new balance or adidas. New balance 2E are too narrow and their 4E are too wide. I used to love Adidas barricades and their 6 month warranty. Now all I can use is their sole court which I can wear out in 3 months with no warranty.
Cool reviews! Got wide and flat feet. Currently comfortable wearing only KSwiss Hypercourt Express and Fila Axilus 2. Any others you recommend?? I am club level 4-4.5 level all court but likes to serve and volley singles.
There are no “best” shoes for everybody cause we each use different criteria for our shoe choices.
Sir, how can i order from your website? Im currently here in Middle east, however due to this pandemic covid-19 all sport activities were being frozen specially our belove tennis..
Would you be so kind as to make a video on how to customize a racket with silicone and led tape?!
This is easily the best channel for real world / non-pro tennis players! Love it!
Never seen the number 1 shoes for sale near me. Maybe it is a big thing in elsewhere
Back in the day, i used to do that for shoes, & racquets. I play bball w/ 10s shoes bec they are more durable. Thanks for the videos
I’ve just bought the Gel Res 8 and can say that they fit wider than the previous one. The midfoot and forefoot are wider (less snug fitting) and it is more roomy. I have narrow-medium foot and I feel it, so better to use it with 2 pairs of socks. Otherwise they are heavier also. They said they feel lighter but in fact it’s heavier and the upper is quite rigid at first. Still a bulky shoe but quite comfortable and very cushioned underfoot (maybe too much for me). I can’t say how they perform yet cause it’s too early but I think I prefer the inside comfort of my past Gel Res 7 even if I didn’t really like the sole which felt stiff and rigid. The outsole on this Gel Res 8 seems to be more flexible and that’s a good thing. I would update my review after more hours wearing the shoes.
The biggest surprise for me are the tsycon. Tsitsipas used it in a game or two on ATP CUP and immediately switched over to the previous ones. I don’t think they are suitable for playing tennis…
For those of you that have type 2 diabetes with foot issues and like a wider forefoot then you need to try these. K Swiss Hypercorts, Prince T22, Any other shoes I need an aftermarket insole.
Also don’t cheap out on socks. Fit socks for matches and very soft socks for everyday life.
Hey Tennis Spin. As the writer of that piece, just wanted to let you know that we don’t rank the shoes. They’re predominantly in alphabetical order. A few were pulled out for photo purposes. We should obviously make that clearer, or perhaps give more definitive rankings in the future.
However, it just so happens that I would put the Mizuno as the best in the class with Asics as the runner-up. The Stycon is an interesting shoe,-good first effort-but would not make my top 3. I actually preferred the Kaos 3.0 SFT.
Love the videos. Keep em coming.
Just got new New Balance off ebay. Great fit. We will see about durability. Im tough on them.
These have been by far the best shoe for traction and sliding on hard courts for me so far. The shoes hold up well and still have that squeaky/sticky feel to it even after a long period of use and sliding. I was surprised the shoe still made the squeaking sounds after a good amount of use.
I bought this shoe and can say it’s the most comfortable tennis shoe I have ever worn on the court. I had zero issues with heel slipping and didn’t need to over tighten the laces at all, nor did I use the last eyelet. I am way more than pleased with these shoes! Previous shoe was the Asics Solution Speed FF which can’t compare to these new shoes!
Nice review! When are you going to release the ezone written reviews
can you just tell me the top 3 in comfort with great durability and fit…
Is that a new men’s Court FF 2 colourway? It looks pretty nice
One of my main gripes with the court ff 2 is that it’s an amazing shoe but by god ASICS need to stop making them look like tubs of fluorescent paint had fallen on them
I bought 5 pairs of Adidas Barricade 5’s in 2009 and now I’m down to my last pair ☹️ . I’m having a lot of trouble finding a shoe that’s as wide, as comfortable, and stable. I should have bought a dozen of them back then when I could. The re-release in 2014 was nothing like the original so I didn’t buy them.
Hopefully I can find a decent practice shoe so I can save the Barricade 5’s for matches.
ASICS shoes are known for their running shoes not wrestling shoes? And Nike are horrible shoes, too narrow poorly designed fancy looking only. Remember the basketball player from Duke who almost snapped his ankle off when his Nike shoe fell apart while pivoting on the court last year. Muzino are best shoe. Wilson are good too.Babolat shoes are very good too.
Hi TW, can you suggest a few pairs of shoes with a higher arch support? (Like the barricade7), thanks
Is the ASICS Men’s Gel-Resolution 7 any good? Or is the ASICS Gel-Resolution 8 better?
I’ve tried the regular one, and it’s really narrow, as well as the court ff 2s. But I saw in a video that the wide version of the gel res 8 is already as wide as the court ff 2s. I guess my question is that wow wider exactly is the wide version of the gel res 8? Thanks
Hey AIN’T NOTHING BETTER THAN FREE SHOES FROM A MANUFACTURER RIGHT KIDS???
If they move forward with empty stadiums, they should triple up on the advertising space. ITF WTA ATP PAY ME FOR THIS ONE
The video quality, and contents are top notch. This channel deserves more views and subscribers. Great for tennis community! Thanks for your work. Your thorough review and comparison is great. Many people like racquet comparison too. Please consider and keep up with your work. Cheers.
Is this shoe just for tennis or can it be used for walking or weight training?
Can you please compare the fit between the regular Gel Res 8s with the wide version? Thanks.
What’s wider the gel resolution 8 Wide or solematch bounce? Differences
I just bought this exact shoe. He is exactly correct. The wider toe box makes this very comfortable. For me, a perfect shoe.
Best review I’ve seen of any tennis shoe of any of the tennis retailers. Thanks.
Does anyone else having ankle rubbing problems with these? I compared it to Gel Res 7 and the ankle cut out is different and a tad higher.
Nice shoe, but inferior to the best tennis shoe ever made: Asics Speed Solution 2 from 5 years ago, simply the best.
I’m looking into buy the ASICS gel resolution 8 but I’m not sure what size to get. Because I’ve seen quite a few reviews saying they’re snug and some what tight in the front. I typically wear a size 10.5 and some 11 so what size would be best for me?
I have very narrow feet. The gel res 7 was my go to shoe. I ordered the gel res 8 but unfortunately the have widened the fit. Hopefully the 7 version will still be sold.
Or is there a narrow fit version available for 8?
damn Chris is killing it with all those shot angles! can’t wait to take my pair of these out on the court now lol
Hey TW,
I’m looking for shoes with a wider toe box. Will the GR8 be suitable then?
Also can you suggest some other tennis shoes with a wider toe box?
Hi TW,
Bit of a weird question because I’m sort of comparing apples to oranges, but between this, the Court FF 2, and the Ubersonic 3, what is your overall recommendation, as well as the runner-up, with some explanation?
still talk of heel slippage, huh? So disappointed in Asics….they almost make a perfect shoe but dont understand how the calcaneus is shaped. You can tell just by looking at it the back of the shoe. It’s always to vertical
In comparison with the court ff 2 which would be the most comfortable with the most cushioning feel..? I ‘m a tennis coach and i need a shoe that mixes performance for playing during the lessons and cushioning for standing still on the court for hours every day.. thanks Tw!
Surprised that you didn’t mention the Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour 4:)
Suffering from plantar fasciitis which shoe would you guys recommend? Im a tennis pro so i have to spend a lot of hours on the court. Any help will be appreciated since this condition is holding me back in my job.
They should re-release the Gel Res 4 in thar colorful Noosa colorway
Is there a size fit difference between gr 7 and this gr 8? If I used to wear size 10.5 on the 7s, should I buy same size or is this a little more loose? Anyone know?
Can u please compare it with the ASICS court FF 2?
Btw I like to slide on hard courts and like lightweight, stable shoes. I’m confused which to choose between the two. Would love to hear ur thoughts. Thanks.
THANK YOU for notifying us about the availability of the wide model. I’ve been watching Asics’ website for it since the release announcement and it still isn’t showing there. Your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you.
what racket and string is Troy using? He was buggy whipping that forehand!
Thanks for the review, guys. One thing that strike me watching the review is the you guys are really getting better at your strokes,Jason in particular. Keep hitting and have a great year ahead!
Question which sneaker is the good for me and and I was wondering wich tennis sneakers are the most comfortable for me and to wear I kind a like one with the cushion
Still a very narrow shoe (since the 5s). Glad they have a 2E available. FYI… there are variable lacing techniques/patterns for specific foot types.
Yeah asics really are excellent. Nike used to have amazing shoes in the breathe cage 2k10-2k12 but they stopped making them.
The mizuno wave exceed are excellent! I have the model from 2018 (wave exceed 2)
I haven’t seen Granville in any reviews lately. Is he still with Tennis Warehouse?
Know this is kind of late, but would the head revolt pro 3.0 hold up to the new best 2020 shoes?
Wow wasnt expecting Mizuno at no1 for tennis shoes. Guess u havent tried the cage4 yet?
I have a narrow foot and had to go down 1/2 a size in Court FF 2. Would it be recommended to do the same for Gel Res 8? Thanks
What are the differences between the ASICS Gel-Resolution 8 and Gel-Challenger 12?
Love the review and shoes but so far I have not heard anyone complain of pressure to the top of the foot from the end of the Dynawrap straps. Maybe I’m the only one experiencing this issue but I think it’s a poor design. The end of the strap is curled under and sewn to the upper to form what is essentially the eyelet at the end of the strap. The curl of the strap pressures the top of my foot through the tongue there. The tongue and laces are too thin in my opinion so I’m swapping out the laces. Hopefully they’ll break in and the pressure will subside. Otherwise, I’m cutting the end of the strap off! Besides that, the fit is great and I’ll wear out the midsole and upper before the outsole.
Just bought a pair of Adidas Solecourts (2019 black and orange). Looking for my first pair of tennis shoes after wearing through countless pairs of trainers. I move a lot playing tennis and move quite aggressively. Can I check how long these particular shoes will take to break in as I’m not currently finding them very comfortable just to walk about in, but I haven’t played in them yet in case I need to send them back (sadly there is no where locally that sells tennis shoes). Thanks for any replies.
Hey TW awesome review as always! How do you guys compare these to the New Balance Fresh Foam Lav? Thanks!
