The Nathan VaporKrar and VaporZach are awesome have them both. Also the Elite Racing Apparel section for New Balance on Running Warehouse has some of their professional stuff and it’s all on sale. Their racing shorts are awesome!
Thank you for sharing fellow runners… Maple Syrup huh??? Now I know what to look for at the Farmers Market.
Tyler, I’m training for a 10k road race. I alternate training runs on a dirt trail and a high school running track. Do you recommend using track spikes for training at the track, or would I be fine with my regular trainers (Nike Pegasus and Adidas Bostons)?
it never gets cold in Durban, South Africa however I find running in 30’C quite draining which is most days in summer. New Balance vest and shorts are great for the heat but still get chaff:(
I use a Nathan hydration belt instead. It has two water bottles and I wear it so they are on my back hips. Out of the way and close to my center of gravity which is key.
Salomon XA cap, Ronhill Marathon Shorts, Nathan handhelds, Goodr sunglasses. I’m hunting for a summer sock for my August marathon as I feel the twin skins could be a bit warm! Any thoughts from the community much appreciated
Hey seth was wondering when the zoomfly vs turbo video is coming out?? And would you possibly be up for reviewing the brooks hyperion?
Brother, you should use all this swimming & biking as an opportunity to do a Triathlon. Even a Sprint distance. If you haven’t done one, you might find that the experience is quite enjoyable.
that moment where you get all the new running gear and then walk out the door looking like that kid from A Christmas Story.
GRINDING it out, brilliant Seth, I’m hitting the grind also on videos, I love the challenge and it keeps me thinking how can I help people. Keep going mate.
Those earphones are the best, had my set for almost 4 years!
Love the trail running shorts by Rabbit. They have all kinds of pockets and no chafe problems. Also like squirrel Nut Butter for chafe prevention.
I need something for hot humid summer runs in GA, I usually go sans vest, I don’t like hand helds, hmmmmmmmmmmm
Nice truck… still waiting on you guys to tune a 3rd gen taco. Losing Faith in VR
Could you livestream on twitch? We can follow you there and get push notifications when you stream
I love the smartwool.. for a couple of reasons.. 1 they remain soft (presumably like you said, due to materials), 2 no L/R dedicated socks. Once less thing to stress about especially in the morning when putting on or pairing up after a wash. I never have had an issue with L/R specific feet.
Dan, Amazing Work!…. Beautiful Thank You! VividRacing
Great Advice, I wish you a speedy recovery, I like seeing your fast Sessions, there off the scale
VaporMag is a ladies vest. It’s named after Maggie Guterl. Not a problem if you really love that color/fit or anything. VaprZach is the same size vest but for the gents. It’s named after Zach Miller. Supposedly Nathan changes some things for a women’s and men’s fit.
QOTD PRESCRIPTION “wrap around” sunglasses Seth, or anyone, know of a source? I can’t wear contacts, and typical prescription sunglasses are somewhat heavy and don’t wrap around and cover enough thanks.
Aside from shoes the absolute most important thing for me is to wear the right underwear, for the last couple of years I’ve been using Champion long boxer briefs, they made chafing a thing of the past for me (though I do still lube up if I’m going on a very long run). I also wear New Balance running shirts, but I always go for long sleeves because the sun here in New Zealand is vicious. They’re great shirts that I dearly love but I’m a very sweaty runner and the tech fabric stinks really bad after a run (or during a run on long runs).
When I wanna go fast I really prefer the hydration vest. Not a huge fan of the imbalance a hand bottle is causing.
Here in Queensland our winter running is just perfectsunny 25C most of the day
QD: Seth, you should really consider the Salomom Adv Skin 12 pack. I was iffy myself to go up to the 12L size, but honestly, it doesn’t feel too big at all (even when empty)! As you might expect, this pack conforms to you body very well, is extremely comfortable, and gives you the option to pack everything you’d need without the feeling of a large hydration pack. I’ve used mine with nothing more than a role of TP in the back (just in case…) and waters filled. For me, it’s a “small sized” hydration pack with big liter capability.
I enjoy the Smarwool socks as well here in hot, humid Houston. Also liking Runderwear as I always wear a brief to prevent chafing and they wick much better than Nike Combat. I use a Adilad Hydration belt ($19.99) once I get to about 8+ miles, no bounce for me wearing in front and no interference with arms, 9+ min/mi paces. I just don’t enjoy carrying a handheld once I get past 6 miles.
I have been enjoying Ron Hill and Raidlight clothing options while i’m in Europe for a few years.
But, my FIND of the year last year was that my local H&M clothing store (you now have at least one in Colorado) stock a great sports t-shirt which i have subsequently bought 5 of because i love them so much and they are just over $US10:

You’re a singlet guy, but for those cooler days and as a first layer in winter it’s a great option. It also looks good and is cut well.
Love this video. I’m trying to find the leki micro trail pro poles that you use. Would you happen to know where you got them or where I could get a set?
Great video but i was constantly distracted by the excess u-bolt thread hanging off the rear axle.
I commented this when you said you don’t have to spend 2000£ to get into running.when I first got running I was only wearing £30 worth of gear on first couple runs.
Love the summer gear. Here in Tennessee, we have heat and humidity and the best socks I have used are Swiftwick.
Yeah I think NB apparel is great, even though, I prefer to run with Adidas Adizero collection apparel. Worthy to try it!
SUMMER! Love the gear rundown. I just picked up a Bonatti jacket for rainy days. Don’t forget the GPS watch!
Great vid.
I just got a hand-held Nathan hydro bottle the other day, similar to what is in the vid. I then went out and had my fastest, best training run of the season maybe even the past two seasons. I’m sure you have little trouble adhering to your running form. But for me, I think having the bottle strapped to the left hand made me hold tough to economy of movement, keeping my elbows closer to the body because the farther out they got, the more the impact would be felt by the weight being held in the left hand.
I’ve tried a few different socks brands, and I agree about the thin Smartwool product. Darn Tough makes a comparable version that’s slightly thicker, but that slight bit of difference seems to impact my running. I’ve also tried Balega but after the Smartwool, those are like wearing loaves of bread on either foot. Way too cushy for me to run in. I can’t really try any discount brands because I wear a medium and those only come in that size 6-18 range where the heel ends up somewhere behind my calf.:)
Speaking of discount brands, I just invested in some 4″ Time to Run shorts from Amazon. They seem to be a good fit but we’ll see once I feel comfortable taking them out for a shorter test drive.
Craig and Nate show up in the same outfit..
Insert stepbrothers “did we just become best friends” meme
Great video and love the different items covered! Not the biggest fan of running with my hydration in my hands if I’m going fast. Love my pack for that, I think I’m just weird about holding anything in my hands while running lol.
Hope your recovery is going well!
Here in Brazil’s capital Brasília the winter is still hot but in contrast with summer is more dry and temperature around 27 °C.
Indoor cycling works!
If you miss Cleveland there are some great fall matathons!!!
Yay, you guys are in Texas!!! I’m in San Antonio!!! Thanks for the info, coach Nate and coach Craig. ❤️
Come. On………..!!?? You. Talked. About. Everything. Except. The. Shoes.!!! What. Are. We. Suppose. To. Do………?
A well kept secret: cheaper and better than glide is the anti chaffing product from gold bond, sadly it doesn’t have the tingle-factor of the powder… just like glide but goes on smoother and is way cheaper and just as effective
Hi seth,
Have you heard the Hoka Carbon X Project this coming may 4? Will you do a live stream or preview and prediction on it?
Summer. Are you sure that those vests aren’t just a little stiff due to sweat?
I really like Montane Fang shorts for summer also very light and really comfortable. They’re expensive though I recommend them particularly if you can get them on sale as I did.
I’m completely brand-new to running I started on Saturday know at the moment so can’t support my local shop sadly so Amazon is the only thing I’ve got atm I’m runing 2km in 20min. Iv got running shoes old gym kit and planing to go on amazon after this video to get stuff it’s been verry helpfull thanks.
What about running belts, gloves and sweat bands and head bands maybe even watches like garmin etc? loving the videos as always. nursing my first running injury since i been back into running stuffing your foot toe first into a rabbit hole wasnt my best move:/
Just got me a GoPro yesterday and I am looking forward to release some really cool running videos on my channel. Anyone else here use a GoPro?
I live in summer 365 days a year in Singapore… Issues I have is getting my shoes and socks totally soaked during my long runs, doesn’t bother me, but people look at me leaving wet footprints as I walk, its quite funny
For training runs… I have About 5-6 dri wick shirts from races. Shorts… I own two pair of Nike running shorts that I picked up from Scheels for $32. Calf sleeves CEP and Copper Fit ( gotta support GB Packer legend Brett Favre)!
Shoes.. Rotate Brooks Adrenaline 19 for slow runs and Brooks Revenna 9s for faster runs.
I live in Wisconsin. So, for me 45 is shorts long sleeve dri wick. Over 45 short sleeve shirt. 30F and colder I add a light running jacket.
Great video! What about underwear under the shorts? And have you ever tried the Flipbelt? I use it and like it, but I have never tried a west thought.
Cheers from Norway
Interesting video! But the most disruptive innovations are really socks, backpacks for run commuters and food supplements?????
I stocked up on an arsenal of brooks Sherpa shorts… nice pockets… no chaff… btw glad to see the rec on the singlet, I need to not let the dad-bod out of the cage as much this summer….
I really like these bottles.TRIWONDER TPU Soft Folding Water
Bottles BPA-Free Collapsible Flask fc
Hydration Pack Ideal for Running
I have the same Nathen bottle, it was kind of hard to get used to at first. But I do like the vest, it doesn’t slow me down because I just don’t run that fast anymore lol, yeah running is simple. When I raced bikes,I had so much money invested. Good vlog Seth! Keep On Healing brother, you will be back in no time.
I use the Nathan handheld, but put it on the back of my shorts (between the shorts and my back). The form of the handheld bottles + the rubber attached have this side-effect that it sticks to the belt of your shorts (so it doesn’t slip). Really easy. QD: what do you think about waistpacks? For 2 hours runs I tend to use a waistpack (like the VaporKrar) to store food and windjacket if required) together with the handheld. I like my upper body and arms to be free…
The Nathan Vaporkrar waist pack (with the hand held bottle) is my favorite piece of gear Incredibly light and can hold so much! Also I’ve worn running shorts from just about every brand (lulu, NB, nike) but weirdly enough my go-to running shorts for the summer are from GapFit. I’ll be purchasing a couple more pairs this year because they are just that good, and relatively inexpensive. Cheers to summer!
Summer: dark colors make the heat worse. Therefore I like to wear white shirts and orange/yellow/grey/light blue shorts in summer time.
Yess i have been waiting for this one since you mentioned it!!
I use a vest and it’s heavy but I swear a lot and it has water in it! 2Lt I believe… but my wife uses the same Nathan handheld as you… she seems to like it… I like my hands free… I’m just dreaming of a garmin watch… so I can ditch my phone…and for shorts? The NB ones are awesome!
I have this on my 2017. Its been 25 k now and still surprises me. My mpg has improved for regular driving. The torque curve is incredible. Runs a 13.5 in the quarter with all terrains. Cant complain about that!
Hey friends of youtube yesterday i run 12 km 7 milles in 59 minutes is this time fast or slow or alverage
Just a warning about hand helds with strap: I fell trail running with the hand help strap onto that hand. I thought at first the bottle saved my fingers from being crushed. Unfortunately, the strap pulled my thumb around the bottle and dislocated it. I wound up with an Ulnar Collateral Ligament tear (completely off the bone) a.k.a Skier’s Thumb. Needed surgery to reattach the ligament. I do run with a bottle in hand, without the strap!
Sounds real nice!!! bet it feels great!! for a massive truck.
We will enter winter here in Brazil soon, but thankfully our Winter are quiet “light”, compared to yours. It is just less hot during the day and cools off at night (better for running actually).
Spend $10 dollars at the Thrift Shop and your Running Adventure begins! That’s how I started and never look back.
Summer! Maybe not gear but what sunscreen is best for not burning your eyes when you sweat it off? I’d add squirrels nut butter for chafing to the list and for ladies the Koala Clip for bringing a phone, key, and gel or two on the run.
I’ve Had This Super charger, and believe him when he says, on your BRAND New Tundra it’s because IF Your Tundra has more than 36k, warranty wont cover it. None of it. Been there. Done that. Live fast die young though. It was absolutely a Blast…..LITERALLY
It’s honestly the BullyDog Tune, and the Cooling unit that comes with these kits that is the problem I believe. Took my $17k plus the 9k to purchase and Install to learn this.
Do you think it’s too late to start rugby at 18 years old? I’m 6’4 and big enough and I’ll hopefully starting at UCD after the leaving cert
