#4 & #5 sounded perfect until they listed broccoli and colliflower wich isn’t a naturally occuring plant. Il have to just make my own powders.
In the linked protein powder test the plantbased products tested worst on top is a whey product
Cheers for the Video! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered Chireetler Perfection Formula Rule (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for learning how to build solid lean muscle minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got astronomical success with it.
Been looking for a erthrotyal (idk how to sp that srry) free one cause it really bothers my stomach and i become bed and bathroom ridden for about 6 hours from just 1 scoop of orgain vanilla. Dont have an issue with their choclate thou…
Sativa is a genotype of cannabis, Stevia is a natural sweetener
I can attest for the KOS Chocolate Protein Shake. It’s amazing!!!
12k views and 9 comments lol
Game changers didn’t do it’s job for protein powders department.
Orgain Chocolate Fudge 2.74lb tub is sometimes on sale for $22 at Costco. Even at the regular price of 27.99, it’s still less most retailers.
Abouttime vanilla protein powder is good but it tastes like Playdough
I’ve been hearing a lot of bad reviews on Vega protein powder due to heavy metals and other toxins. I’ve been doing research on a better vegan protein powder but came into the same situation with every other brand. It seems like the other brands also have their pros and cons. As far as the tests go is there an update to whether or not it’s safe to consume. Please I’d really appreciate a response. Thank you for the video.
The Clean Label page has an infographic which states that the plant-based protein powders tested were overall the WORST in terms of contamination, and 75% of those tested contained lead.

Skinny guy says you can build muscle on incomplete and difficult to absorb protein bound to fiber.
Started taking Pea/Rice Protein. Bloating/Gas/Diarrhea. Can’t sleep. Not taking it anymore. Thanks for this video!
I Got alot of acne while taking whey protein, does vegan prevent acne?
Idk why someone doesn’t create a protein powder with peanuts with the fat and carbs removed
I see Carcinogenic Activity and Testosterone Inhibition was not part of your judging criteria. Otherwise you would have said dairy whey is the worst protein supplement for humans.
It’s about quality not quantity
Do you want high protein count or high health count?
Just so you know. Soy is thick as hell (needs 3x more liquid than whey to become drinkable) and also it’s foamy as hell, Otherwise taste is alright, neutral I’d say. Pea is liquidy, but taste is horrible. There is that overwhelming pea bitter aftertaste and it is really concentrated (Bought pea and rice blend and had to combine with soy to be able to drink that). Whey is king in taste and texture and everything, the only reason I tried vegan protein is because of slight acne breakouts from dairy. But I will probably go back to whey, resp. classic protein blends, as acne breakouts seems to be mainly from lactose and so proteins, hard cheeses and butter don’t cause much of an issue.
Hi, I live in Germany and take Vegan BCAAs, is plant based bcaa still bad?
None, because you can’t make gains from plants because it’s not bio available for us humans to absorb their protein. They’re labeled as carbohydrates for a reason. Starchy carbs are best for energy and glycogen in your muscles, but not for protein.
Could you address these “healthier” sweetener alternatives like Stevia? I’m really interested in how they effect gut heath
Ok this is great…so what do we use now? Hemp protein? What is a clean source? I started doing the starch solution to lose baby weight and it’s working but my hair is falling out. I need to add protein. Ahhhhhhhhhhh
Whey gives me acne and makes me feel bloated. For me, pea has worked great.
There are several studies suggesting pea protein performs just as well if not better than whey, also the pea protein groups did not have to take double the amount of grams as suggested in this video.
Just buy some hemp hearts and pumpkin seeds. Those are the best for making smoothies. Why pay crazy amounts of money on protein powders when you can buy hemp seeds for way cheaper and you are getting the best kind of nutrition nature has to offer. HEMP=Healthy, Electric, Magnetic, Pulse.
#askgojiman you made a very typical mistake with your protein requirements statement, it’s not 0.8g per kilo of body weight but per kilo of LEAN body mass. This makes a huge difference.
The best is hemp but don’t be vegan eat grass fed pasture raised beef
I like eating meat. Occasionally eat nuts, rice, beans and protein/fiber bars. Do I still need to eat protein powder?
well on the leucine bit i would argue whey is not superior because it has more, because as an adult, leucine fuels cancer growth, that’s why even cows stop drinking milk when they are fully developed

Whey protein is trash. Like literally trash, not just figuratively.
Question: I am not a vegan, or vegetarian, but I believe there is a huge upside to using vegan powders. Now that I have watched this video, I must say thank you! But now, this leads me to my question, is there a vegan protein powder that you might think at least has less heavy metals? Or is it safer to stick to the normal protein powders ( as I am not vegetarian, or vegan). Or is there any vegan brand that you might recommend? Any advice would be awesome and much appreciated, forgive my grammar if anything is mislabeled and or misspelled! Thanks again for spreading the wealth of truth and knowledge!!
I have been mixing pea and brown rice protein 50/50 for a few years and the results have been just as good as when I was using whey. I also have zero bloat. Here are some simple recipes so it doesn’t taste like shit:
Shake one:
vegan protein, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp honey
Shake two
vegan protein, 100g frozen berries
Shake Three:
vegan protein, 1 very ripe frozen banana so it is nice and sweet, 1 tsp cinnamon
They are my staples, It makes the vegan protein so nice to drink.
I am not vegan, but that video is interesting and has significant information. That mentality contains visdom and respect, got no idea why anyone -do not insterested in content, come here and write hateful and disrespectful comments. Let’s be open minded guys, is that too much to ask? Love you, take care.
What about Hemp protein?
Best is: hemp-rice-pea protein blend.
Thanks PF!
I’m hearing more noise about collagen supplementation. Know nothing about this. Consider exploring this in future video??? Thanks!
But the bio availability bio this completely crap you what he can do nothing with it because of the anti-nutrients
What about broccoli protein? I had a mix of pea & broccoli but the smell was an odor like farts, the smell itself made it hard to drink, had to throw it away…
This is unrelated to the actual video, just wanted to say your videos are awesome and of great help
Huel works well for me. Had it for 4 months. Lost fat and gained muscle, even when I thought I was past that ability point in my fitness
thanks for focusing on vegan protein. i understand that research may be lacking, but there is more to vegan protein than just rice, soy and pea. i use a blend of pea, faba bean, soy, hemp and sunflower protein made by theproteinworks (europe) and it is the best ive tried so far. i admit i dont know the ratio tho, they dont say on the packaging..
It is true that some proteins increase muscle protein synthesis better than others, but research also shows us that what’s really important is the amount of protein you eat in a day.
In conclusion if you are eating enough protein in a day you are gonna hit every single amino acids you need to build muscle optimally by default wether you are consuming it from animal sources or plant sources.
Don’t use protein powder because makes no sense and is waste of money
Preying on ignorance is big business
i think ur forgetting hemprotein here which i would say is clearly the best one
Thank you for such a thorough report. I consume Hemp Protein for its Amino Acid profile. Also, Buckwheat mixed with other grains has a complete protein profile.
Thank you so much for making this video! Us vegans really appreciate it
I’ve been looking forward to this video for a long time. Thank you for making it #plantpower
I am allergic to cows milk protein….so this is perfect for me thanks!
I mix some Soy and Pea Protein with Whey to trigger absolutely everyone.
I go for pea.
I’m not comfortable with soy and rice protein tastes bad. Also for I’m already consuming enough rice&oat so why not add something you don’t usually eat:)
u forget to mention about PDCAAS = 1 scole value plant protein
Okay so fuck 99% of protein powders! But what about spirulina, wheat grass etc. powders?
That thumbnail is the funniest shit ever with your diet you will never look like that unless well you use ROIDS! but there’s a reason all vegans are small and not big and strong sorry y’all work out all you want you’ll never bee too big unless you juicing bro #animalfatsarelife #govegananddie
I hate vegans who lie to people saying that animals lead to cancer, diabetes i mean wtf all my grandparents were eating both meat and plants and the funny thing is 2000s are the times people have the most sicknesses it’s not either animals or plants bad for you there’s a reason why god created all of them if you wanna be healthy then look at the dose not the source
What if someone produce Soy Protein with extra leucine? Wouldnt that be a good Product idea for an entrepreneur?
Hey Goji Man
You did a brilliant video a while back on how nuts don’t make a person fat. We all know that oil causes weight gain so does that include natural nut oils which appear at the top of nut butter jars? It probably seems like an obvious answer but I have been so convinced that nuts will not lead to weight gain. Thanks #askgojiman
No offense to anyone out there but vegan diet is pretty expensive for bodybuilding
vegan wut a joke…
Big Pharma slaves with no real nutrition….
Nice vid mate and thanks for all the help in the discord, that qna you did earlier was extremely helpful
I got over four grams of leucine today just from eating lentils, split peas, oatmeal, chickpeas, kale, brown rice. It just all adds up. Even when I think I’m eating so healthy and getting enough iron, I’m still maybe totally messing up So frustrating.
I aint dead yet. VEGA ON. As of now I have enough TEFLON fragments lining up my hemoglobin from decades of Teflon pan use… God only knows what else I have in my blood stream.
It’s so confusing I was about to get garden of life meal replacement for my daughter and you said it’s not healthy??? then which one???!!! can you please let us know??????
New shirt colors in the shop available now: https://picfitshop.com
Super appreciate all the support so far!
So 1 scoop of pea protein a day should be okay? (833 mg of leucine) (416 mg of isoleucine) (416 mg of valine) its vegan pro protein powder. Would really appreciate if someone can answer
Holly [email protected] #t I have vega protein and organic life meal replacement.
Ok the protein finished but from the organic life meal replacement I have 2 boxes I dont want to throw them can I use them is so bad?
I’ve eaten like 3 sometimes 4 containers of vega brand protien per week
for a couple years. I’m 25 and in the best shape of my life. Idk it’s my favorite protein because all the vitamins especially Vit k. Well wish me luck lol we will see how long I live.
Now I understand why I feel so sick when I drink Vega. I had been very sick twice from drinking it!
I’ll stick my my old one sunwarrior
I spent a lot of money on the top protein powders on the market I bought them at Amazon as well as my local market Walmart. I found them lying there is sugar in them you just have to know how to look for him I’m a diabetic and my blood sugar went sky high on one of them because sugar is in Stevia and dextrose sugarAnd they had another sugar in there to alcohol sugar which supposed to be zero sugar. I checked out all the brands and they all the same I would never buy protein powder again I felt awful. What happened to the knowledge that everything that goes into the body Hass to be turned to glucose in order to be utilized in our the-body’s it just means that protein takes more body energy to break it down.
Yaye you read my comment on your previous videos!!! Was waiting for this video for a while
Jesus is nothing safe!? I’m about to buy chicken broth, tea, salmon, beef, rice and now this. Shit even deodorant and medication tablets has talc in it.. everything causes cancer or metal poisoning. BPA, artificial sweeteners, phosphates, antibiotics, etc. Its a lose lose battle. I give up.
Interesting i have always wondered how healthy these powders are. Ps is it possible to turn down the music when you are talking?
Check out raw sport plant based protein powder if you feel you need to supplement your diet
But where do you see the lead in the ingredientlist of these protein powders? Because i can’t find it..
I went online and as of today vega does have a Clean protein powder
But when you’re a bodybuilder your body needs more protein than the general minimal requirement. Yeah it’s really easy to get all the protein you need from whole food vegan sources as a general person but as a body builder I mean, that’s a lot of beans and sometimes people want to eat something that’s low in protein so pairing that with a protein supplement can help. Although I wish there wasn’t so much contamination risk… it also sucks that leucine is the most important amino acid for muscle growth but also not great for our health? I’m here like debating back and forth over what’s more important to me lol I shouldn’t have to choose between my health and one of the only things that I actually genuinely love, exercise and physical progress
But isn’t igf-1 anabolic? Wouldn’t bodybuilders want this to be raised?
Love your videos. Please also caption in english if possible so that the hearing impaired part of the community can also benefit:)
I was just told by a very well respected trainer to take more BCAA powders with meals to get more Leucine that will then promote more protein uptake to put on more muscle.
Lead is actually essential for the human body. Lead is natural and meth is also natural, anything from earth is natural.

I’m curious about the legitimacy of this study… do you have any updates on this?
http://www.nsf.org/newsroom/clean-label-projects-protein-powder-report-overlooks-basic-scientific-princ
I have recently started going plant based and gradually getting rid of all meat in my diet. I also started working out at an MMA gym for a 6-week bootcamp thing. My coach hates the vegan diet and he doesn’t want me on it but he knows I wont budge. However, he says I need more protein and BCAA’s because I wont be able to develop more muscle without it (he keeps track of my macros). Rather than get into an argument with him that he is wrong, are there any suggestions on how to increase my protein without increase the carbs as much? So far it has been a week and I am down 4.5lbs. I’m 6’3 and 261lbs btw.
What about hemp protein and soy protein from Bob’s mill brand? Thanks!!
So this is Leucine study revolves primarily around it being consumed from meat, dairy, and other processed foods when it comes to its’ negative effects? And getting our Leucine from plants would be something different entirely?
Clean label project is a fin scam to promote a lab in Colorado.
In terms of heavy metals… Wouldn’t eating Whole Foods be just as bad as consuming a plant protein powder because they are both grown with the same contaminated water..?
I’m hooked on this channel I believe Vega one made me sick like almost instantly
Has vega proved that they are not toxic yet? If not can anyone recommend a good protein powder with 30g of protein?
As far as BCAAs go I’m curious about how vegan sources of them compare as far as the risks go. Plant protein sources are supposed to be healthier for you obviously so it would
Make sense that vegan BCAAs would also be healthier for you. Is that a correct assumption?
goji man, i have a challenge for u. i recentley replaced eating out with vegan smoothies minus 2 T manuka honey.(8 months okay results not great. i went to carnivore diet as of today, honesltly it seems like a atkins diet with no processed things.
Hey Mic! I’vejust heard there’s a new peotein by ON wich is plant based! What do you think? is it safe to consume it? or is it better to stay away from the powders? I’m a fat guy trying to get lean…
I have been consuming vegan protein for some time now and I have some opinions on them. Specifically, I have been consuming two shakes daily: one for breakfast with 50g of pea and 25g of hemp and one before going to bed with 25g of each. This is all in comparison to whey, which is what I used to take.
They taste very bad. So bad that if you just mix them with some liquid they will make you want to vomit. You’re basically forced to mix them with something. So far I have only obtained acceptable results by mixing them with chocolate powder (+calories). If flavor is a concern, don’t even consider these.
They make me make diarrhea very often. This is very uncomfortable.
They don’t seem to be making me develop muscle any faster. Not any slower either, however.
They’re very difficult to mix. I must always use a blender. This is an extra effort that, done daily, adds up.
They contain more calories than whey and are very slow to digest, making you feel full for longer.
They’re cheaper, no wonder why.
Unfortunately, I bought so much that I’ll have to continue using them for many more weeks. Can’t wait for the day they’re over to return to whey. It’s just better in so many ways that it’s not worth ditching.
In conclusion: don’t consume them. They’re so much more trouble than they’re worth.
What do vegans do when they pass a hamburger stand or a pizza place? Do they cover their their noses. I barely rarely meat but to cut it out all together is no fun.
#askgojiman you said that the plant-based protein powders are not as bad and toxicity as the animal-based ones, but according to the clean label project the plant-based ones are the worst, because heavy metals accumulate in the plant tissue, but not in animal protein. Did you just make a mistake on that fact? Garden of life has a very detailed response to the clean label project finding. I wonder what your thoughts would be on that. Why is Stevia bloating? What if I grow Stevia and use the Unprocessed herb? Thanks!
Shit I’ve been using vega for years.. which protein would you reccomend? Is the sun warrior one safe?
The animal protein hurts me i have gout so i use protein supplements this vegan people make a mockery of my gout
Is make your own protein shake buy you some almond milk get you some bananas not too many cuz bananas high in sugar that will give it a better sweeter taste get you some blueberries some blackberries put you a couple of Auburn’s inside of that get you a blender and go to work you can use also strawberries also
If we’re going to listen to the USDA tell us what safe and was not safe yeah I think I would try to do my own research because the USDA they are pretty much the government and we know that our government don’t want you to have nothing healthy and they play mind games if they approve something to go on the market something is wrong with it and then if they say something is wrong with something on the market think about it something is wrong with it they play mind games do your own research
I wonder if this study has only included an American protein brands as I went to their web site and I didn’t find any European ones that I’ve been using like Neat Nutrition, Form Nutrition or even Scitec Nutrition (the European one, not from USA). Very confusing.
If you have purchased their products keep your receipts and check for a class action lawsuit. Try to keep his video information as well. Good luck.
Mic, I read some one saying vegans need to supplement creatine. I’d never heard that before and a quick look has shown some articles say yes, others saying no. Have you got any info on this? Thanks
Doesn’t increased igf-1 promote muscle synthesis in and of itself?
GMO Protein Powders for Vegans like Myprotein Vegan powders with Pea Protein, Brown Rice Protein or Soy Protein = IS POISON
Hey Mic, First of thank you for your extremely informational content as usual!
I have only been a vegan for a couple months. I am really enjoying the journey and am trying to really learn how to care best for my body. As a consequence of the desire to understand my health better I just started tracking my macros and realized that I was hugely undereating protein and honestly this was probably still the case when I was consuming animal products but that is beside the point. Anyways I am now trying to make sure I am really getting “enough” protein, which I know alone on this there is very conflicting opinions and studies. However, I am just really trying not to eat soy on a daily basis and having to incorporate highly processed foods such as protein powders but…FIBER…. I just do not know how it is supposed to be possible to eat enough protein coming from ONLY whole foods without getting WAY TOO MUCH fiber and therefore not only having to deal with discomfort but as for my understanding, this could long term cause major digestive problems??
HELP?!
Umm, Derek Tresize absolutely does take protein powder: interviewed on PlantBuilt and he said “My staples are multi-source raw protein powder”.
Hmmm but is it biased? A study says egg and dairy protein is healthier than organic vegan protein? Hmmm……
Garden of Life is certified organic and sources Organic US based pea protein… and did you notice that not ONE plant based protein was rated highly??? They may as well write that being vegan kills you. How about buy the test kit and test it yourself???? Make it Mike certified;)
If someone publishes a study that must be 100% true. Ok according to this logic everything that’s published on the Internet is true. BTW I INVENTED THE INTERNET (Because I wrote this, it makes it so dude)…. Start using that fork for getting all the lies they feed you off of your ears
Again this company “Cleanlabelproject” claims to be a non profit in Colorado that’s just testing products for the love of truth. Mind you that every company especially one that destroys reputation of ALL PLANT BASED PROTEIN (?!!) is paid to do so. There’s bias towards some whey companies over others but I found myself scratching my head when they found GOLD STANDARD WHEY in some flavors fine but in cookie and cream with terrible review(suddenly mercury becomes present from the addition of a simple flavoring). It’s questionable data at best. You too should learn to QUESTION STUDIES BECAUSE THEY ARE USUALLY PAID FOR!!!
Always check out the ingredient lists carefully and look for the brand with third party lab tested and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and FDA certification. Then your protein powder should be safe and good to go.
Does anyone have any info on OWYN protein? I bought a ton of it on sale, planning to have one serving every day or every two days.
This is the best video of yours I’ve seen yet. You’re very clear here.
I put a small scoop of pea protein powder in my guacamole. Call me crazy but I find it very delicious and satisfying in this application, and in other savory foods. Instead of buying the pre-mixed flavored protein powders, I buy the single-ingredient pea, hemp, and sacha inchi seed protein powders and blend them together. I don’t mess around with the rice protein because it tastes terrible and I react badly to it. I can’t eat beans, nuts, or seeds, so I’ve gotten creative to meet my protein needs. I take a hefty scoop of this blend, blend it in some coconut milk and mashed sweet potato or winter squash and make a dope pudding out of it. I do it every day and it makes me feel really good. **Pro tip: when consuming these protein powders, take a strong digestive enzyme to maximize protein breakdown and absorption, it makes a HUGE difference**
#askgojiman What about powdered peanut butter? Would that be healthier or less healthy than whole peanut butter? They have minimal ingredients. They are basically peanut butter minus the fat and water.
Mic the vegan do you have a list of safe and actually clean meal replacement shakes?
Have they done an update test? Too see if the companies actually fixed the problem with the detectable lead?
Can’t get anything pure in this world anymore. Everything has toxins. We created too much garbage in this world. I don’t even know what to take anymore. I’m trying to start a meal shake but can’t decide on a brand.
I was shocked to see this video only had 200 views I expected this to have at least 100k good job my guy keep it up!!
Just eat meat like normal people
I don’t understand the problem with my body. I can eat almost all the dairy products but when it comes to protein I can’t digest it. Neither raw nor isolate. I guess I’ll switch to vegan sources
Are there any studies out there that vegans are less likely to have male pattern baldness? Considering factors in male pattern baldness are: inflammation, dht, lower growth hormone levels, calcification of the arteries, fibrosis,
Also considering that male pattern baldness is an autoimmune problem,
And that countries with more organic diets have lower levels of male pattern baldness,
Thanks for this video! I am allergic to rice (confirmed by testing) and I don’t digest whey well. I use Naked Pea protein powder.
I don’t see how people drink this powder and actually enjoy it. I just got some of this protein last week and it’s disgusting! My coach suggested I use plant based protein…lol. Oh no never again. I really don’t want to waste my money so I’ve been drinking a shake daily and to know this information makes it worse. I may just go ahead and throw it away.
#askgojiman Can you make a video about nf-kappa-b inhibitors?
Thanks for the video:)
Is there a video on soy products? If not can you do one please!
Have you heard of WHOLE EARTH AND SEA FERMENTED GREENS POWDER?
Thanks for the info. I’ll use oats instead of protein powder if I make a smoothie.I usually only like them in the summer anyway.
I use protein powder simply for convenience and that I can eat a more pure protein with less carbs. I go with pea protein or mix of 5 plant proteins. Brilliant video thanks.
I’m around 200 pounds and I do heavy workout 5x a week so would it be optimistic for me to take 60grams per day.
Damn You Goji… I was having my Smoothie with Protein Powder as i was watching this Video!
Amazing work Mic, amazing video! Love your videos, I not native English speaker so sometimes it’s difficult to me to get all the information because you speak a little fat. Thanks so much!
Turn the music off. It’s hard to pay attention to what your saying. Thanks!
Was thinking of this as a question and it popped up on sidebar for video so cool thanks!
Hey gojiman have you started your phd in nutritional science yet?
I have been using rice protein because it is hypoallergenic and doesn’t upset my stomach, but recently I’ve read that only 40% of the protein is absorbed (not the biological value), meaning I’m getting less than half the protein I thought I was getting from it. The same with seitan (only 25%), but soy and pea protein is good, soy is 100%. Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score is what I have been reading about lately, is this correct?
I use it sometimes, but most of them taste really aweful so I dont see the point food has to taste nice <3
For the elite athletes lupini beans is the way to go
For the body fitness guys soybeans are the way to go and for people who just wanna get they daily needs of protein there is peanuts, chickpea, pinto beans, lentils, split peas, winged beans and many others the list is vast.
Hi, i used to take protein powder as a supplement when i don’t feel like eating. But since i saw a video that remind me that there’s no way to store protein as protein it made me realize that it’s ok to have not enough protein or minimum protein. So the only protein supplement i take these days is simply hemp seeds in my daily smoothie or chia seeds in my fruit jam for my morning toasts.
Many people forget that muscles grow thanks to activity, not from protein powder.
Another reason for not using protein powders is that the consumer of these would miss on the vitamins and polyphenols and synergies these compounds create while eating as a whole in original state. The biggest problem in case the protein powder begins to replace the real protein-rich whole foods.
I have bought gold nutrition v protein based on pea and rice protein. One scoop has 20 grams of protein. Isn’t it enogh for one shake and protein? I ask because you said 50 g of this compared to whey, that means i would have to use two scoops.
I’ve been looking for a video like this for so long! Thanks Gojiman!
I’d like to get some protein powder, because I often don’t feel like eating legumes or other protein rich foods but I’m concerned about the possible toxicity of powders. I’d only add like 5-10g of protein to a low protein meal. I’m not concerned about consuming too much protein.
When you combine various vegan protein powders to match the amino acid composition of the egg, that is the best vegan protein.
Could you a video on hench herbivores steroid abuse? If not you clearly support this just to protect veganism
Thoughts on a water extraction method for a pea and brown rice protein blend.
It is wonderful having you do all this research and then explaining it in a bite-size truth bomb.

To respond to your query, I am nervous about taking protein powder. Even though I have a small appetite and don’t think I get quite enough protein…. I wanted to donate a kidney and so my glomerular filtration rate was measured. It was abnormal and I was told it is that of an 80 year old. I am vegan and was 41 at the time. They told me it’s good that I’m on a lower protein diet as a vegan, to not damage my kidneys. Does that sound right to you, that I probably shouldn’t take protein powder?
For hexane processed, how much hexane remains in the powder?
Did the protein calculation as indicated and according to Cronometer, on my current, whole foods, starch/plant based diet, with no protein supplements I’m right on the mark, sometimes above.
Dammit, xanthram gum is so common. Another red light item added to the list.
There is metal in both vegan and whey protein. It’s ridiculous and it needs to stop.
My WFPB vegan diet journey began when I started using a whey protein powder. I also stopped drinking soy milk and switched to almond milk. I soon developed a lump in my chest. Breast cancer in men is rare, but not impossible. While going through a battery of tests, I researched what I could do to improve my odds. I started eating vegan, and stopped the protein powder. The lump shrunk so much that by the time they tried the biopsy, it was too small for them to perform it successfully. Here I am years later, and am glad I went through it. I feel better than ever. I needed to get scared straight.
Protein is in every plant and we do not need these powders. Just have more plant foods high in protein if you really want more. They sound like a huge waste of money and instead we should focus on getting a balance of all the other nutrients we need.
My favorite protein source is 2 day old buckwheat sprouts, microwaved for 2,5 minutes, followed by brown lentil sprouts, microwaved for 4 minutes (800watt). Quinoa is too expensive for me. I have made the experience that protein powder products, including so called fat reduced “flours” (hemp, pumpkin) which are left overs from oil presses, that still contain some fat are rancid at least some of the time (summer, left over from last season, etc) and rancid fat is terrible. I also sense that the hemp and pumpkin, even when fresh, are most irritating to the body, for unknown reasons, and can not be used as a daily staple. Massive tiredness during digestion is a typical symptom, worse symptoms are cognitive decline, like mixing up letters. Rice protein that i have tried tasted like poisoned concrete. I have immune reactions to soy products, i tend to get eczema in mouth corners and pimples. I am not aware of any healthy protein powder at all (whey causes cross-allergies like hay fever). The most processed/easy to chew and digest protein source is perhaps pea and chickpea pasta. But processed flour based stuff tends to be pro inflammatory around the gut lining, as seen in ramen noodles.
oops i just bought some vegan protein powder, i guess i’ll just use it since i already have it
Thanks for remembering about us who don’t support animal suffering
#askgojiman you made a very typical mistake with your protein requirements statement, it’s not 0.8g per kilo of body weight but per kilo of LEAN body mass. This makes a huge difference.

That article was fabulous. I just read the whole thing… great info. Love your channel.
im surprised that quinua wasnt in the list as it is source of “complete protein” the issue with soy is that its highly allergenic with pea protein also being somewhat allergenic. However quinua and (brown) rise are very hypo allergenic and are therefore used as a blend. one very good example of that is Botanica plant based anti flamatory protein blend which is composed of quinua, brown rise turnmeric and a few other ingredients known to decrease inflamation. another verybgood example is Metagenics UltraClear and Ultra ImflamX 360 a bit expensive but highly highly effective
hey legend, just watched game changers just wondering for your personal opinion on it as I really respect your opinion as most of my gym information comes from you. Thanks
Depends on the quality of hexane used in the extraction and the DE gassing process, but I would not be afraid of saturated hydrocarbons if they are pharmaceutical grade or machine grade, the boiling point of hexane is pretty low. That is, if you really need to take protein Powder…
You know what pisses me off about all of this? We consumers wouldn’t know what questions to ask to validate the product’s purity. How are we supposed to know this shit has lead in it? I genuinely wouldn’t have thought lead would be a thing in protein powder. Well played Mr. Government. Pretty sneaky. I wouldn’t have thought to even enquire. GAAAADAMMNIT capitalism! If there wasn’t some smart guy with a degree in awesomeness doing studies on the dust we buy to fill us up so we can be “healthier” when liquifying our breakfasts….I don’t know. I don’t even know how I stumbled on this. Nothing’s sacred. fml
I use a fairly clean protein powder on workout days. I do a very demanding weight workout on 3-5 days/week. On days I’m not working out, I don’t eat it. But quite honestly, I simply can’t eat that much lentils etc to get all the needed protein on workout days.Normally I eat around 70 gr/protein/day. That’s around 0.9 gr/kg. When I workout I eat around 1.2 gr/kg.
I’m a hard gainer so I need help. Please do a video on BCAA and powders I can use.
Their are two other Vegan Protein.
Herbalife Alternative Protein Drink Mix
Nutralife Vegan Protien
hi Mic
my 17 yr old son is working out and insisting on taking a non-descript vegan protein powder….i wondered if you knew whether pea protein isolate posed the same dangers as soy isolate?….im especially concerned when i see the word “isolate” bc of mcdougalls warning re cancer and soy isolate but am not sure what it is about soy isolate thats so bad and if that same cancer risk moves across to pea protein isolate?
my son knows i think its crazy to even increase your protein levels with healthy vegan foods let alone with rubbish protein powders but i definitely will stop buying this powder if i get a whiff that pea protein isolate is as bad as soy isolate?
thx
georganne
The brand “vivo” seem to offer the best quality vegan protein powder. As they use bio fermented pea protein and raw organic hemp protein. Plus it’s free of any thickening agents etc ✌
I use soybeanflour in my smoothie, it should be better?? At least its not isolated.
Wow! The whole world needs to see this video. There’s no reason to be eating this crap.
https://www.pulsin.co.uk/hemp-protein-isolate.html No heat, no chemicals and no enzymes.
but what about Markus Rothkranz’s products? They are just powdered plants I think.
thanks goji man:) i used to take protein powder before… I turned vegan 9 months ago and started with vegan proein powder… at this time I dont take any supplement but vit b12 thank for inspiring!:)
When I use protein powder I use Vivo life. They use a fermented pea protein and have many delicious flavors with chlorella and spirulina. I have no idea how its processed.lol
I like how people are brainwashed so easy do you think other whey protein or any kind or protein is better i rather stick with plant based protein its all bout money those big coporation dont want you healthy because if you are healthy you dont paid for medecine and medicine you see out there are made from plante based is that irony loll
Not great news…..will stop soon and then try to find a better brand of pea protein
BodyMe protein powder is great, no additives and made naturally
People should be questioning this ‘study’! Clearly biased. I don’t believe it.
I think it would have been important to mention that all sorts of analogue meat products are made from plant protein isolates (mostly soy or pea) and therefore are equally problematic than powders. Just saying.
What about organic protein powder plant based nutrition Dairy free soy free gluten free cholesterol free?
#askgojiman!!! VeganSmart All In One Nutritional Shakes ok? Protein from pea, quinoa, chia, potato and chlorella.
Vegan Protein Powder is FAR MORE superior than Animal-based Protein Powder… For the very fact that 95% of animal-based protein powder (whey, albumin, casein, etc.) are mostly just by-products, code-name for WASTE… they were sourced from questionable, highly toxic factories… they were sourced specifically and intentionally to create the protein powder… Vegan Protein Powder sources were specifically sourced to create the powder… best Vegan Protein are ones which are blends of one or more plant source (rice, pea, hemp, etc).
Wow!! Thank you. This is the best comprehensive video put into layman’s terms.
#askgojiman How much magnesium do highly active middle aged women need and what is the best source and or best supplement form of magnesium?
I don’t use any protein powder and I never have and probably never will.
great video thank you Im going to stop buying protein powders
What you do not take into account here, is how to keep protein levels high (2g/KG) during a cutting phase in a caloric deficit without protein powder on a plant based diet is next to impossible. Of course it’s easy to get enough protein if you are eating over 3000 calories
I think protein powder is BS and I never used them. Thanks for this video!
Soy is also very good if you are trying lose weight, because soy keeps hunger at bay for a long time. And yes, it makes you have extra farts. And no, you will not lose your man-powers, if you have a soy shake a day.
From protein we are formed.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I’ve never been into protein powders. I tell friends if they want extra to add hemp hearts, chia seeds or ground flaxseed into their diet instead.
Vegan Dr Esselstyn believes protein powders are bad for the heart. Bad for the heart means hairloss/ wrinkles/ grey hair (all proven tell tale signs of heart disease).
As a vegan, this wasn’t really helpful as the other videos usually are… I’m kinda disappointed
I use the unflavoured pea protein from MyProtein. It is 100% pea protein isolate. It also tastes like garbage by itself but it is okay in smoothies. Since I do work out a lot, I only take it if I didn’t reach at least 100g of protein in a day from normal food, which rarely happens. Since I weigh 83kg I think that is fine to do. I must say, I do not know how the protein is isolated. That would be great to know!
