Those big gaudy double chain rings and plastic cover thing Stand out like a sore thumb, She’d look so much prettier with a 1x.
Can you or someone reading this give me a link to a good cellphone mount for this bike?
What is the most rode miles one should look to use this bike for?
Would there be mud clearance if upgraded to 35 or 38mm tire and added fenders?
What would be max tire size recommended if add fenders?
Would this 2020 FX3 fit Marathon Plus 35 or 38mm tires & fenders.
I LOVE my Trek FX3. I have the Sinister Black model and I really LOVE this bike….Thank you @jamesthebikeguy for all of the specs before I bought my bike
excellent video friend thanks for this review on Best Hybrid Bikes 2020 I really like this topic and I loved your video.
This is a joke…. it is, isn’t it? Please tell me it is….
Hi! Nice video! Do you know if the brake pads model for this bike is easy to find? My question is because I have a Specialized Sirrus with Tektro brakes and my local dealer does not have the pads in stock. Another mechanic told me that Trek use more standars spare parts and eventually, more easy to find. I am now in the verge of selling the Sirrus and purchase the FX3 (similar bikes). Thanks in advance for your reply.
Great bike i just got the same one just a different color. The only problem that i see is Seat… really uncomfortable. Everything else is perfect.
Looking at this 2020 FX3 top tube, this Top Tube looks lower than other 2020 FX3 top tube on other searches. Why is that?
Is it because of the frame size?
Really helpful video bud but please get something for your mic to stop the wind noise! Headphone users will thank you:D
4:56 why does it look so different from the picture on trek’s website. In here it looks like middle bar goes from handle to rear wheel in straight line but it looks quite different on their website.
Thanks for the video James, I just put a deposit down to replace my old 2009 Specialized Hardrock!
Is the cassette upgradeable to a larger cog than 36…to a 40 or 42 cog?
Is 26 lbs heavy for a bike like this? I’m a new biker. I am not quite sure.
Awesome review! Just a question, does the 2x sub-compact crank set makes this bike easier for hilly areas? I’ve always been accustomed to 3by ones (like the lower priced Treks or even the older models of FX-3) and I found myself using the middle cog (26T or 28T) most of the times, switching to granny gear for any steep uphill. What’s your take on this?
I see a made in China on the frame.( 1:04) Thats made my mind up. No thanks
Hi, first off, very good review. looking for an hybrid bike but looks like everything is out of stock except this one. Question, Will 32mm width tires hold on its own on light trails? most of time bike will be used on paved road. thanks!
Trek FX 3 or Emonda ALR 5, just a new interest in riding. Will be first bike.
que buen top me encanto es genial gracias por esto ayuda mucho a elegir
This is a shitty list. Most of those bikes are too heavy, too expensive for what they are, and some of them aren’t even hybrid bikes. Visit a local bike shop and learn about what a bike is, learn about what makes a good bike, learn about maintenance and what makes a smooth ride. Buy something used and well maintained if you’re on a smaller budget.
#1 is a bike for Karen who would be happier with a lighter bike.
#2 is a cheap build fixed gear bike… amazing tires on road, but it’s impossible to ride this thing on anything else.
#3 is the heaviest piece of shit garbage you can imagine.
#4 is an anti-performance bike. Upright position kills the sport.
#5 is another heavy shitty nonsense.
#6 is another crappy bike. Buy a used high quality and well maintained hybrid bike instead for the same price.
#7…are you buying a bike or an annual subscription to Fortified’s security system?
#8 You can get a better, lighter, and cheaper bikes with a fully adjustable stem for the same price
#9 is a bad quality hardtail mountain bike… it makes no sense in a hybrid bike list.
#10 is a blend of weird components that will end up at the dump.
Haven’t owned or rode a bike in 12 years. Got the FX3 in red one week ago. Bike has been a blast on the trails, fast and nimble. At nearly $1K CDN though an expensive purchase, and hope the bike holds up in the years to come…
Thanks so much, James. Wish I knew the tire width and the rear gearing. Would luv a triple up front with a large rear ring of 36 that would really kill the hills!
iirc they are starting to get paid if you’ve watched over a minute which is the amount of bullshit they needed to get started with their shitlist…
Thank you for the video! Got one yesterday and it’s an excellent ride coming from the heavy MTB. Got scratches already while drinking coffee. Forgot that it had no stand.
I’m your subscriber for ever bro!
Was wondering Giant fastroad sl3 or this one? I have had a great experience with trek, but I am curious because both are in the same price range and both have similar chemistry? And both use Shimano components!
Anyone know what the xl model weighs? Im 6’2″ and I want a good bike.
Put a deposit on 2 of these (one for me, one for my wife) last week. Thanks for the review, it’s a great bike and I can’t wait to pick them up next week. I’ve got the red, my wife’s is black.
As the colour is so conspicuous, I would be afraid that it would be a magnet for bike thieves.
How does this line up against the sirrus x 3.0? Which would you recommend?
I am considering saving a few dollars to go w/ the FX2. Please tell me if the whole “carbon fork” is really as big as a deal as people seem to make it. I also like the Sirrus 2.0 however its nowhere to be found. Please shed some light on the carbon fork. In other comments I’ve seen you say “well if you can afford the FX3 get it.” Sorry but that is not incredibly helpful.
hey, I bought this bike its amazing! Can I fit 30 mm tires instead of the 32?
I actually picked up this bike 2 days ago and I love it! I tried it out along with the FX 1 and could feel a major difference. It is a very smooth ride, I did have the chain come off yesterday on a long ride, but the shop I got it from does free adjustments if I end up needing it. I will say I was going to order the black, but with a 3 week lead time and seeing the red in person this is a really really nice color in person. I just went with the rage red. No regrets.
I was expecting a detailed review on quality bikes………not this rubbish with information on why 2 brakes are better than one.
Do you think the 250$ difference with the FX2 is justified? is the carbon fork worth spending the extra money?
I came in here knowing nothing about hybrid bikes. I left knowing even less.

Omg garbage! Giant roam is a hybrid! Not these gramma bikes!
Just amazing video, thank you for sharing your thoughts and your experience regarding about the best hybrid bikes. Perfect tips you shared in the video!
Bought one 2 days ago and love it. Other than the saddle busting my ass I can’t fault it
This was an excellent video. I just purchased my FX3 recently. Trek is my 1st name brand bike. Years ago, I rode my friend’s Trek mountain bike and was surprised by it’s low weight. My FX3 is a smooth riding bike that’s great on my city’s paved trails. I’m confident it’ll be perfect for mild off road riding. I upgraded to a slightly wider tire. It’s very comfortable on long distance rides. I installed a good sturdy rack which brings the weight up to approximately 33 pounds which is still much lighter than what I’m used to. ♂️
The 2020 model has 18 gears (only 2 chainrings), while the 2019 model had 27 gears (3 chainrings). This does not look like an improvement. It could make it more difficult to climb steep hills. On the other hand, is there any advantage to this change?
i just bought one just love it. the guy at the bike shop didnt know much about it, thanks for the info about it.
This is my bike same color, too. I ride it every day. Just a fantastic bike.
Thanks so much for this video, it’s great. I have this bike and also bought the SARIS Fluid2 Trainer. But I’m not sure if I can put this bike on a trainer because of the latch it has vs. it being bolts, ya know? Any ideas?
Great video! Would you recommend this or a specialized sirrus x 3.0? I’m a newbie and can’t decide. Thanks!
PRICE! i enjoy a price included with a review, not sure if you intended to leave it out, forgot, didn’t think about it?otherwise nice review on what looks like a killer hybrid. one of the hybrids that looks like it’s not embarrassed to be a hybrid and i don’t blame em. idk if it’s true but i think most bike types (mtb, trackbikes, fixie, road, etc) look at hybrid as lesser type. i had a Norco hybrid that i did everything i could to make it not look like a hybrid.(lol) this hybrid i would be proud to ride. i wonder how much it costs???????
Great review about Best Hybrid, It was clearly understood I love the way you explain thank you actually this will be very helpful, good luck in your next projects
Thank you for this helpful video. I am confused between the fx3 and the cannondale quick 2. Can you please recommend which one is better?
This Bike is Sweet! I got it May 6,2020 and today is May 13,2020 100 miles on it. It’s smooth fast and light. I usually go on State Trails but since I ride usually 12+/day I will be adding a Drop bar my hands get numb and biking peddles for better stability. 15/10 stars for me. Awesome price point for quality and speed. My top speed was 29 mph so far.
Just got one and I live in a very hilly area in uk. I cannot believe how nice it is to ride and how easy it eats up hills. Great buy highly recommend.
The frame looks a little different on this bike then on the website. The back looks bent like a curve or something
Fantastic review. I just picked this up yesterday in dnister black. Such a sweet ride. Light bike with super smooth shifting. Now just need to accessorize!
what kick stand do you recommend? I’m new to biking and have no idea what’s compatible
Great review. Can you tell me what the average speed is on a flat surface for this one (constant pedaling maintaining a workout speed)? Also the max speed that you’re able to attain? For example, my DS2 I’m able to maintain about 13-15mph on a flat surface/even grade and I can get up to 18-22 mph downhill while furiously pedaling.
do you know the difference between the fx3 disc and fx3 WSD disc? Thanks
Well known probkem with formula hubs….inner cups are not serviceable and are poor quality, short lifespan. I have a set and did the research. Try and buy parts!!! Accepted practice is replace the hubs!
After seeing the 1st bike on the list, I already knew it was time to leave!!
Recommendations $500-$1000 on road off road fitness bike thanks thanks
I’m a bike beginner. I just bought this bike, I have several questions:
Would it be dumb to replace the fork, headset, and stem (that whole area) into a road style headset?
I’m 5’11 but I ride a size M bike. Comfort is good, but is it not recommended?
Is it possible to put a basket in the front for puppies or cats?
My front disc brake screeches loudly, how to I reach it?
Any idea what width tyres you could fit in this? Would 700×42 for for gravel rides?
I slide bamboo splinters underneath my fingernails while I watch this video, every Tuesday
Looks like the frame is different from what they show in their website. I wonder what’s going on?
To everyone reading this, i just wanted to say this was my first high end bike I purchased (I always had the 200 dollar bikes that break down fast) and this bike is my favourite “toy”. Very very highly recommend to someone who wants their money worth. So fucking fun to ride.
Gotta say I have no idea on bikes. But I learned more from the comments than the video. And whoever is narrating it sounds annoying af
What’s the widest tire this bike could run. I know some run the 32. Is a 40 possible
Decent review let down by the EXTREMELY loud rumbling wind noise. This video should not have been uploaded.
Liking your reviews! They are really helpful. How would you compare this to the Specialized Sirrus X?
When add a rear rack, then use a 45L (pair) Orlieb pannier set, is there any heel strike when pedaling?
Is there any toe strike when doing sharp turns when pedaling?
Thank you for the video. Just purchased the FX 3 Disc Women’s and it is so light and fast!
Just bought this bike. My kids have FX1. Love it. With your knowledge and experience with tires and bikes, do you think a 700×38 will fit the FX3 and FX1? FX3 come with 32 and FX1 come with 35. I wanted to add some comfort to the ride. I was looking at the Maxx Rambler or Schwalbe All Round or new Ultrabite. I like the brown side walls. And we ride in gravel too. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the video. I just ordered the FX3 Disc (red) at the local dealer in Japan. Can’t wait to ride my first hybrid bike!!
A guy stopped buy at trek bike shop and said “I am here for the Covid Red”. I still puzzled.
Enjoy your videos! Had my 2019 FX3 stolen 3 weeks ago. (Say no to cable locks!) Trying to decide between a FX3 or step down to a FX2. Have you thought about a Trek FX comparison video? Thanks.
Who the f made this video. Those are some shitty Walmart grade bikes.
I along with Kenneth Plunkett made my decision to pull the trigger on the 2020 fx3 based on finding this review thanks for sharing!!!
Great video. Oki I cant decide.. buy fx 2 2020 or fx 3? Is change between this 2 models worth money?
isn’t a 32 tyre too small? how does it work with bad city road, lots of road edges and pavement? I am going to buy FX3 but not sure if it will work for me in terms of narrow tyres. Any advice?
Picked mine up this week in the black I loved the feeling of the bars but they are way to narrow for me, luckily I was gifted a pair of carbon bars from a friend that didn’t like them on his race bike that are not quite as comfortable but are just fine and free is free.
I just bought an FX2. Had to order an XL in blue. Couldn’t see the benefit of a 3 over 2 for the extra 160. I prefer three gear rings in the front over the two in the FX3. Have to wait 5 days to ride it:(
Salesman didn’t tell me about the carbon fiber forks.
What size tires do you think you can fit in the rear triangle?
This aint no fucking hybrid bikes (FYI I stopped at bike 3, fuck that)
Nice review! There is something that called my attention. I have the 2019 version of the FX 3 disc, and it has 3 speeds for the front with the 9 speeds for the rear. Why did they take one speed for the front in the 2020 version?
Thanks for the good straight-forward review of this bike. I just ordered the FX3 from my local Trek dealer. He didn’t have a medium Red Rage in stock. I’m 68 years old and live in the Shenandoah valley of VA where to ride means hills, hills, hills. I had almost given up on biking, something I had enjoyed all my life. Then a few months ago I got into researching ebikes and finally bought a Trek Powerfly 5. It has positively changed my life. Now I’m biking every day that I have free time, even taking on some forest service roads with a lot of climb. The ebike has done two things; 1) it has helped me get into better shape, and 2) rekindled my love of biking. So I am realizing that the ebikes range is a limiting factor. I want some day long rides, and when warmer weather comes some multi-day rides….so adding the FX3 to my lineup. I can’t say its the best at that price point, but I haven’t found anything I like quite as much. I toyed with the FX5, the carbon fiber would be nice, but $1090 more for a bike that is 3 lbs lighter? Better I lose 15 lbs from around my gut.
Just pulled the trigger on this exact bike as I wanted to go back to cycling after 9 years. I was initially looking for the FX 2, but I’m glad I bought this. It is very fast, smooth and light enough for my needs. The carbon fork does indeed make a difference on more choppy surfaces. My shop actually put a more robust pedal set instead of the City Satellite ones that came stock. The matte black looked sick, but I think I made the right call with Rage Red. Highly recommend this bike!
Awesome review! I’m gonna be picking up the 2020 Fx 2 in that beautiful Alpine Blue tomorrow!
I bought this bike yesterday. Love it so far. It’s kicking my butt as I’m a beginner rider.
All good except for the Formula hubs…unserviceable and poor quality
It is incredible, thanks for sharing your thoughts and your experience on the best bikes. Very good advice. I loved it very much. Thank you for this tutorial…
With the gyms closed I just bought the FX 3 4 weeks ago. I love it. My first bike in 40 years. Once I figured out the gears I was good to go. It handles pretty good on climbing the hills and it can fly on the level road.
I wasn’t certain what kind of bike I was getting, I got lucky. I asked the bike shop if they had a military discount, the lady called her boss and he said okay. What I didn’t know was it was already at 20 percent off.
So I got it at 25 percent off. I paid $ 615.00 for it. The showed me the actual price, it was $ 850.00.
Dispose of tacky reflectors and plastic safety guards, launch the crap pedals and replace with some plastic DX style platform pedals, get a stubby 35mm stem and some anodized lock-on grips and bar ends and other accented personalised accessories and you will have a sweet customized ride to ponce about town on. Just like me, ding, ding….
