Cheers for the video. I’m doing my first Spartan..all going well..on September in Edinburgh. I need to start training.
Couple of questions that could help be appreciated.
Are these obstacles (and there order) the ones that I should expect for my event? Just so I can prepare myself and train accordingly. The monkey bars, the rig rings and the rope climb seem the most challenging.
Anyone got any training tips or specific exercises I should be focusing on to be fit enough for the event?
Cheers
Great job as usual, guys. And the image quality of your cameras! Wow! You’re spoiling us.
Thanks for your footage I’m doing my 1st Spartan race in October in Atlanta ever done it?
“Train hard, have fun, take a double shot of DayQuil on race day morning” lol
About 5 years ago I invested in waterproof orthotics I can put them in any shoe. I have the Altra mid-mesh for beasts and Ultras and Hoka trail shoes for shorter spartan distances and pure trail runs.
How was the size? I have a flat wide feet. So do you recommend to have 1 inch bigger?
Thank you so much i stumbled across your 2019 Sprint in Jax Fl all the mud i had to try it. Celebrated my 50th bday running my 1st spartan in Jacksonville 2020 all the mud it was GLORIOUS!!!!
Hi! Great Review! Thanks for sharing! Atb Martin
Man I really want to do this….I didn’t understand what my profile picture was until I looked into it…..now really want to do it
I ran the age group race on this day. Fun course. On a side note: This was the day Kobe died. You can see how gloomy/foggy it was that day. Even though this was San Bernardino county it was like this in L.A. county too.
Hi! Love the videos. I’m attending the next sprint in March and was wondering what would you do if you couldn’t complete the obstacle? Giving it my all tho.
Thank you guys for keep it real. It’s such a complicated topic.
Did you just say you were superhuman? I hope that was a joke
Great video! Thanks for posting. My son and I are running our first Sprint in April in Charlotte, NC.
Thanks for the unbiased tips, I was getting confused exactly due to what you were saying regarding the sponsors. I am opting for the Salomon Speedcross 5 Trail shoe. What do you think?
Which gopro did you shoot on I got the hero7 but was worried my battery may not last long enough
Dude! That looks like a piece of cake compared to the one at diablo in Patterson CA, that one was the real shit!
Just signed up for my first sprint in San Diego this April! Super excited for this!!
Thanks! And I can’t stop laughing at the clips of the Star Wars outfits, so ridiculous and funny! I hope someone wears that to my race.
Awesome video thank you. Is the whole course 3.64 miles or is that distance just the run?
Thanks for sharing your Sprint Race experience, Guys! I’m training hard but having fun!
Thanks for sharing! I am running my first Spartan Sprint race in August. Nervous but also super excited.
Will you be doing another review after a long trail run? I’m interested to see how they feel after some long miles?
Thanks for reviewing. I thought they looked pretty promising based on the design.
Love watching your videos. Doing the trifecta this year first time! One day I want to get beastly enough to record. You guys are awesome!
Great review. Look forward to the follow-up after you’re able to put some miles on those shoes! Great video!
Great video; love that you take turns videoing each other so we can see the actual action. But the burpee bloodbath scene at the rings was just horrific! You should have a “viewer discretion advised” warning
You guys are awesome. This is the first OCR shoe/boot review that I’ve found to be genuinely helpful. And I’m glad I’m not the only person who’s been through a whole bag (or box) of footwear, trying to find a pair of OCR shoes/boots that matches the one brand I liked that got discontinued. For Damer I’m with you on needing a shoe with good grip and padding that lasts (without any weird pinch-points). You might want to try the Hoka One One Speedgoat 3. I used the Speedgoat 3 for my last three Spartan Beasts (in dirt, mud, mountains you name it) and it kept my achilles tendon, calf soreness, and other leg/foot problems down to a minimum despite a LOT of trail training miles….unfortunately, it’s out of stock everywhere that I’ve looked….and I’m hoping this model hasn’t been discontinued….
Can’t wait to get back out to the races (and normality again).
How heavy are the sandbags or the buckets or the plates or the hercules thingy ^^’?.. I know a lot of weight questions
no fire jumping at the end? I heard that at spartan races end with jumping over fire
Do you guys think that Tough Mudder will stay in business here in the near future? And if so do you think that there will be any races this year?
U guys make the obstacles look so easy, can’t even tell that there was a surgery in the past!! Good work!!!
That guy beside you was struggling with the Hercules hoist haha. I always wanted to try one or a tough mudder. Hopefully when everything goes back to normal I can start out with a murder. I learned there are many different types. Looks fun! Great video
You guys notice that Spartan removed table top portion of vertical cargo net for Sprint? Thank goodness! I hate that f*cking thing! Did Damer make Spear Throw? Great video guys!
Great camerawork. Love the shots back and forth of the obstacles and completion
umm so you want a shoe that doesn’t absorb water… and then go on recommending Salomon Speedcross 3s who have a reputation of holding water…
wow these really look quite doable, only the rings and the robe climb look difficult:p hopeing to compete next year
These videos make training so much easier. First race off the year is in May. I cant wait.
What happened to jumping over the fire at the end of the race? Did I miss that?
The new balance Fresh foam crag trail is the shoe I wish someone would talk about. I purchased it before my first ocr literally the day before and it was the only trail runners they had at dicks that day. I wore them for 3 more ocr’s that season(trifecta) and they were the best bang for the buck(50$). Very good grip and very comfy. Con was the heel is big and they aren’t the best for very uneven terrain. I would recommend them for beginners who do not want to spend 150 before they know what they are getting themselves into
Thanks for the video. I am also looking for a good mid to high boot type to switch to. I am looking for more support. I am currently running in Salomon Speedcross 4. I like the cushion and they aren’t too heavy even after getting water logged. I do wish they drained better. The tread is aggressive and has great grip on pretty much everything. Have either of you tried Salomon Ultra 3 Mid? Thoughts on them? How do the compare to Altra? Thanks guys! Keep the videos coming!
Great job as always! Are you joining any beasts in UK, Slovenia or Austria this year?
How good did your shoes come up after the race? Just deciding which ones to wear but worried about how dirty they will get
The background music is way too loud making it hard to hear your comments. Thanks for including Solomon, I had run Spartan races exclusively in Saucony Excursion, though may give them a try.
My son & I have totally flat feet . The best pair I found for us when we train & do OCR’s
is Merrell’s All Out Blaze! Perfect water drainage, grip & weight.
I’ve used the Salomon Speedcross 3s for 4 years now, almost 20 races/multiple trifectas including Killington and Owl’s Head, plus hundreds of miles of trail running/White Mountains/Mt. Washington hikes and they were amazing. I sold them to my friend for $30 because the tread and general durability was still amazing. Only downside for me was that they are a little heavy. Trying the Speedcross 5s, 30 grams lighter than the 3s, almost identical tread pattern. This is definitely a hot topic in Facebook groups and Damer is definitely a classic case of not finding the right shoe. I lucked out and have been hooked on them and always recommend them.
I had salomon speed cross 4 for the super in kent and the Windsor beast they were great
Good stuff! Shoes are so hard to figure out. Thanks for the recommendations.
PF is the worst, I have that plus heel spurs, I stick to my salomon speed cross but I haven’t found anything that helps with the pain. Enduring the suck! Ready for another season 2020 getting that NJ buckle!
Check these out, Mack. I stumbled across these the other day. I’ve never worn Hoka’s…thought of you when I saw this. https://www.hokaoneone.com/men-view-all/tor-ultra-hi-2-waterproof/192410576128.html?utm_source=facebookinstagram&utm_medium=soc_rt&utm_campaign=DPA&utm_content=23843803253860103&fbclid=IwAR2USmzhXUzItBPKtk0GORs3wBlN6CJ5QN89MbUiVHj0RODO7c6V55uByB0
6:18 pesima tecnica para tu espalda, creo que tambien puede ser por el cansancio, pero ten cuidado.
Great tips!now do a marathon or a trail run then you are ready for an ultra!!keep it up!
F in the chat for burpees:p
Down over 120#, doing my first sprint in august!
well shoe there is built for the sport is apparently only for the small people with small feet… so no big foot size 15 shoes for me
I love the altra Superiour’s now. Amazing shoe but sucks for sidewalk training. My first shoe was the Merrell Allout Terra Light. Both are amazing. For me lighter the better with max drainage. I want to try the Atra King MT2 next. Everyones different. Great vid
I will say.. I am a fan of the VJ shoes. That special outsole is great in all conditions but longevity is a problem.. especially if you’re doing any running on roads.
Oh man.. those original Reebok all-terrains. I had like 3 pairs of those once upon a time. What total garbage those shoes were
Great video and the venue looks nice and chill. The guy to the left of Mac, during the hurc hoist, looked to have some problems with the weight? Your other video mentioned the bags seemed lite. Or, Mac was just in Beast Mode!?? LOL!
Might do my first spartan sprint in two months! I’m also 50% nervous 50% excited haha thanks for the tips!
Very helpful. Running my first spartan next weekend and a little intimidating because it’s in new Jersey so I am not used to running courses in the cold. All races I have done have been in Florida
You think sprint is tough? I’ve seen super and beast and trust me when I say this, they’re on a whole new level bruh.
You guys every try Hoka? I picked up the Speedgoat 3 last year, and the cushion and the grip is amazing!
Hi guys. Just wanted to say thanks for all the tips. Did my 1st Spartan Sprint in Mechanicsville, think I saw you there, and your videos got me through almost every obstacle.
Thanks for the great content,
Finally a new video! thanks for all the advice and fun commentary
I wore these with a thicker sock and had some stability issues. I tried a thin sock and tightened up the shoe and i was good to go
Hi guys, so good to see ya. I just have only one race this year cause I had to cancel the other 2, disc bulge happened…totally recovered now and be doing the one in Sacramento.
I’m racing next Sunday in San Antonio. Didn’t know what I signed up for. Wish luck!
Salomon Speedcross 5! Its the best OCR shoe I have ever worn. And like you guys I have spent alot of money on trying to find the right shoe. Keep up the good work guys!!
Thank you SO much for this!! I’m training for my first race in May (Chicago) and I’m so nervous…SUPER excited. But nervous I’m glad I know what to expect now and if by some miracle I can finish this race, I’ll cry haha Thanks again for making this!
Where was the shoe test montage music? That would have been sweet.
Thanks for the review, guys.
Good review, fair and honest. I am bummed they don.t come in my size (14) or I would get a pair. For now I am sticking with my protocol. For shorter races (S Print and Super) will run in my Altra Lone Peak 4.0. For Beast and Ultra Beast I will run in Altra Lone Peak 4.o mid-calf version that you showed here. For the longer distances I tend to do a little bit more power hiking and the boot comes in handy. The new Spartan Shoes are a great improvement, I’ve seen them at races and they got it right this time. Since you are Social Media Influence rs get them to sell them in bigger sizes. They’ll listen to you guys cause you have fun and train hard!!
Glad to see they have performed as good as they look so far. Also glad to see you 2 are carb loading for the next race already! Keep up the great reviews.
Watching while on lockdown. Hopefully life gets back to normal soon so people first and foremost can be safe in crowds and we can get back to intentionally bringing pain to our bodies through ocr racing.
Be safe everyone!!!
I did my first Spartan in 2019 and it sounds like my experience was a lot like yours. I ran with a big team of people from work and it was also very hot (90F) and humid. I had a blast and I was actually able to do a lot of the obstacles. I’m already registered for two more sprints this year and I’m really working to be able to do the monkey bars.:)
Excellent video as usual. We all struggle with shoe selection. I wear normal trail running shoes, but am thinking about ankle support.
Hi Mack and Damer, thank you for all your videos I absolutely love them (I wish you would come to the UK as I would love to find you at a race!)
I was wondering how Damer found these after using them for longer runs? I am using the salomon speedcross 4s which provide a lot of grip and protection from rocks which is great, but they are so heavy and retain water so I am considering these as an alternative. Do you find that these are more of a light weight shoe?
Thank you both! I am re-watching all your videos in lockdown to keep me sane whilst waiting for the ocr season to re-start!
do you guys forget the incredible race shoes: INOV8 X-talon 210? Insane grip in the mud. water floats out realy fast. Nice vid as always! Saw last weekend in the OCR Series in germany almost half of the elite wave race in this shoes. even much normal Series athletes racing in this set of shoes.
Wasn’t too informative. Basically said, get shoes socks shorts and gloves….like no shit
Don’t think too much on the goofiness added to your videos. I only saw that mostly from your clips and few humorous quips you add into your explanations. Otherwise, everything else was good straight-talkin’ advice. I completely agree on having no gloves.
Where do u train for the race? Also, how much prep time would u recommend i’d need if am not super active?
I’m pretty sure I can do most of these except for the atlas carry, the spear throw (that would take a few tries LOL), the Hercules lift, and the rope climb
Are those Altra Lone Peak 4 boots the mesh or the waterproof versions?
Just got my Spirit Version, and testing them out tomorrow on the hills. Might get them wet next week. Loved the review. Thanks guys!!
I brought the Spartan Sprint shoe for my race in Oct. I have done 3 different types of OCS and I agree with what you said. It was great information to say to wear long socks… I never thought about that… thank you.
Great work as always, No real obstacle surprises, I guess we’ll get those in the Beast. Small, small suggestion. How about a Metal Edit of these videos with soundtracks by Neurosis, Megadeath etc?
You guys went up the rope climb like champs!!!! I hope I can make it up the rope lol. What exercises would you guys recommend to help with the rope climb, and ring swings?
Thank you, your video validates my first impressions. Did you also try a camel bag? Based on your experience, what is the best way to bring water with you?
스파르탄!!!!!!! 작년에 제일 쉬운 코스를 했음에도 불구하고 너무 힘들었었는데 ㅜㅡㅜ 이번년도 달려야하나

bought these for the savage race
