Thank you for sharing, practical no nonsense advice from ” someone that’s been there”
Fuck contact lenses fuck the eye business industry wear glasses and save those eyes m telling you guys with experience
Good tips. What’s the material/fabric of those finger socks? whool, as well? Btw, roll up/cabbage the socks and you will not have the trouble putting them on.
Your voice is warm and lovely. And your shape is super comforting to me. Nice video, tips and place!
Vaseline is natural and organic. Where do you think hydrocarbons come from?!?! The very definition of “organic” in chemistry means it is made of carbon (i.e. hydrocarbons).
Doctor Eye Health, you should try Hydra PEG, especially since you fit sclerals / hybrids / rgps. It works for soft lenses too. It makes the lenses really slippery so it’s not for beginners but it works INCREDIBLY well against deposits
Total 1 are the dogs bollox nothing touches em tried ACUVUE dailies oasys shite
Do a YouTube search for Leukotape. The stuff is amazing.
You can also use Friar’s Balsam (tincture of benzoin) in tandem with the Leukotape for extra stickiness. Just test it on your skin before heading out to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction.
I’m trying the acuvue oasis right now but they are already dry after not even an hour.
I want to thank you for this video. I applied your ideas for a walking pilgrimage from Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris to Chartres Cathédrale a walk of 70 miles over two and a half days. But first I put on antiperspirant all over my foot. I used old spice traveling size antiperspirant, and then medicated foot powder, silk sock liners from REI, and wool hiking socks from Costco. I also broke my boots in at work, where I do a lot of walking and sometimes have to work for 20+ hours straight. I used crocs at the end of the day. God bless you.
Can I use duct tape, on the outer edge of my left big toe,
before a blister occurs.? I want to wrap it, but mole skin and surgical tape, doesn’t work
ortakes too long, to apply. Thanks:)Yeah, I knew my dry eyes symptoms weren’t normal. I just stopped wearing them. My eyes just produce too much protein and didn’t last me the whole month. It’s ok. I prefer eyeglasses for now. I’m considering LASIK later on.
do I have to quit my career as a software developer due to my dry eye syndrome? I feel like it will get worse as I get older and use more computers. Please help with my question.
I’m looking forward to trying out Dailies Total 1, thanks for the recommendation:)
My middle toe always gets a blister when I run or walk long distance
Great clip…thanks! I’ve been using the Dailies Total 1 lenses for a few years and they have solved my contact lens issues with dry eyes (and my incomplete blinking). They are pricey as you mention and sometimes I only want to wear contacts for a couple of hours rather than for the full day e.g. to go for a jog or ride. Are there any options you could recommend? I’m thinking maybe a fortnightly lens. I use the Blink drops and find they are the best. I also use Alcon Opti-Free Pro drops after taking lenses off after a full day and find it works well/soothing. Keep up the good work.
Can you please cover rigid lenses.my vision with them is great but my eyes keep getting red while I got them on. Any advice?
Sir,I have myopia with -3.50&- 3.25.my doctor told me to wear glasses all the time.but my eye power is getting high though I wear glass all the time.what should I do now?
Great tips, I have one toes that is giving me trouble I will try the talc, I have silver socks that seem to work but I just wore them on their own it seemed better
I do boxing everyday for 4 hours of training and i get a lot of blisters and sometimes it hurts like hell
Doubling the socks and applying lubricants on the feet prior to running works great, thanks for that very good tip my feet is happy now taking yhe distance
What can one do if your contact lens gets foggy and gets fogged up when you wear them but you don’t get that foggy vision when you DONT wear them? Also what does it mean when one contact lens gets fogged up way faster then the other causing one to blink at nearly two blinks per second???
hi Harry, great tips, i have been running for 2 years and doing my first marathon at the end of the year but my nails on my second to biggest toe keeps coming off, can you recommend anything? thanks
Somebody with orthotic walking braces needs to make a video like this… blisters in braces suck…
All well and dandy if you can afford gortex, that shit is expensive
how about a pair of thick socks instead of 2 pairs of thin/regular thickness socks? what is the difference?
I had keratitis two years ago, and now my eyes are dry! Can I use contacts?
Compared to accuve moist vs daily one is the change and price worth it?
I have ocular histoplasmosis and a hard time with getting a script correct. Do you know of any treatment for it to improve my central vision so I could get a better script
Hi there! Im new to contacts and am still working with my eye doctor trying to figure out which is best for me. I have tried mono vision and also one eye for distance and one with a multifocal lens. Do you have any advice? Do the Dailies Total One come in multifocal? This has been a bit frustrating. Thank you!
Any tips for getting rid of blisters?? I already have one hah!
Great tips!
I recently had a tough experience with blisters:
With other vegan friends we were on a 4 day hiking trip and I multiple blisters and it got really painful to walk, the things that completely changed my experience were using tape, and switching to sandals where there was a lot more room for the toes and heel to move without much friction
Something I used for blister prevention in running marathons is to use antiperspirant on feet to reduce sweating in normal and dry conditions. If running in the rain I lubricated hot spot areas with Vaseline. I have run entire marathons in rain with little problems with Vaseline. If you experience wet feet conditions due to wet trail or rain, switch to dry socks when conditions change.
How about a talk on black toe nails? i don’t always get them, but it IS always the same few toes that give me problems.
Lol of course I’d be the guy that needs this information after I get the blister. Thanks for the great video.
Dr, could you do a video on people with really high myopia, so called malignant or progressive high myopia. I’m at -23 each eye and now with presbyopia. I’m interested in knowing if there are new lenses indexes for eyeglasses, or some ideas, because we wear contacts, but sometimes we need to give our eyes a rest.
The best con for dry eye is Oasys 1 Day. It’s more moist than Total 1.
i got the dailies total 1 2 months ago after i discovered your channel. they good, better than the acuvue moist they wanted to fit me for.
The “Sock Links” is broken. Could you repost? Thank you for this video!
Totally contradicts himself. First he says moisture is very bad so wear socks that won’t trap moisture then he says its important to moisturise the feet!
I have found that athletic tape is by far the best blister prevention tape. I’ve had it last up to 3 days on my feet. It can get wet and still withstand the friction from your boat. Just make sure it is a high quality athletic tape, don’t go cheap.
100% of my friends wear con feel Oasys 1 Day is mose moist than Total 1.
It’s normal for your eyes to get dry after 10+ hours of wear of contacts right
You have a Great channel! All your videos are full of great information! Thanks for making them!
Ernie
Hi Harry, I’m 18 years old and I’m looking to run a half marathon under 90 minutes, I recently ran 15k in 1 hour and 3 minutes, do you think it’s possible for me to run for my target if I keep up my present training plan, thanks in advance and keep making the great videos man!
Pressure also contributes to blisters…not just friction and moisture.
I love the Dailies Total 1. But they are a pain to get out. Any tips?
Don’t ball your socks. Over time it stretches the fabric. They won’t fit as snug then.
I’m new to wearing contacts and I’m feeling some discomfort, my contacts make my L eye feel “snotty” like there is something constantly in my eye. any recommendations on what I can do?
I never get blisters (*Merrill boots + Spenco liners and ThorLo hiking sox!!), but my granddaughter is a serious soccer player and she has had horrendous blisters and eczema on her feet. I’m going to recommend this to her. Thanks!
*I started using ThorLo sox and Spenco liners in the 90s when I did an 18-mile walk for charity in brand new walking shoes! Not one blister or even a hot spot, but my boss was crippled with silver dollar sized blisters by the time we finished.
Wow! I used to get blisters all the time, literally every time I went out running I got blisters on the arches of my feet. But Ive followed your advice and tried two pairs of socks, and have been putting rocktape on the arches, and I haven’t had anything, it means I can actually increase the frequency of my runs now.
What about Biofinity? I heard this one has more oxygen and better for dry eyes. What do you think?
I only wear Dailies brand of contact lenses. I find them the most comfortable and I have sjorgens, which causes severe dry eye. Great info again Doc, thanks!!
My eyes aren’t especially dry, but I swear by Clear Care. I wear two-week lenses, and with the peroxide cleaner, it’s like getting a new pair of lenses every day.
Instead of duct tape, KT tape has great grip and is more resistant to water. It is also more pricey but once it’s on, it’s not going anywhere unlike the duct tape that can shift or ball up. Great video!
I just watched blister prevention and was thinking I hope she has treatment because I… Yup.
Maybe can you help with some advice. Superficial punctiform keratitis is my problem last almost 6 months. Doctors didn’t help with anything. Dry eye. The cornea is damaged. They don’t know why. I try all and nothing helps:(
Thanks for the info. Looking to buy some la sportivas to train and hike mount Whitney with. Any recommendations?
Good video man thanks helped me out. I am going to attempt hiking across Iceland coast to coast next year and never done a hike longer than a couple miles so should be interesting haha.
Day 2 wearing contacts and my eyes were so dry today versus yesterday. I am an incomplete blinker AND my kids don’t completely close when I sleep
What about Toric contact lenses. I have to wear a custom toric lens because my astigmatism is too high for a daily. I find now that I am 44 my eyes get dry and irritated after a few hours. Do you have any suggestions? I have given up wearing contacts the last two years because of this but would really love to go back.
#1: my parents live right there in Crystal Cove. I hiked to the top last trip. #2: I used to get blisters when I wore hiking boots. The stiffness makes them rub. I switched to either running shoes or what I have now, which are Altra trail runners and I haven’t had any blisters since. It’s like wearing slippers with a rugged sole.
For people concerned with needing a rugged boot, I live in Portland and hike areas in the Gorge and around Mt Hood. Never had a problem.
I am SO GLAD I stumbled across this channel!! I’ve been worried about my dry eyes for a while now (my mom says it’s genetic), and I came here from your Halloween contact video too! I’ve been terrified of buying any other contacts than my daily ones because I had no idea how to get them while still being able to see properly, and you’ve helped settle my fears a whole lot!
I got like 3 mini blisters and 2 pretty big blisters on one side of my foot. Why me???? I just walk in the other side of my foot but still barely touch the ground with the other side.
I got some Clifton 3s and have major issues, feels like they’re half a size smaller than my ATR 2’s. Got a blood blister from a 5k parkrun in them. Will try some of these tricks, cheers! (Or just cut holes in the damn things…)
I have used contact lenses since I was 18 and am 37 now, the last afew years my eyes have become really dry especially my right eye so everytime I wore contact lenses it was making it worse and one day they got stuck. For the last year I have tried many different brands but nothing was working so I started wearing glasses. But afew weeks ago I tried dailies total 1 recommended by my opticians and wow they are so comfortable and didnt make my eyes dry after 6 hours they are god send.
I just recently started school for ophthalmology & I was looking for entertaining videos to learn with, I’m so glad I found you:) I love your videos. It would be so helpful if you made more talking about the anatomy & physiology of the eye. I feel like you could explain it so well thank you!
Ha ha, you sure put the bright in my morning, after reading my morning devotional and heading off to work you definitely can put a smile on my face. Your fun to watch, and very informative. Absolutely love your videos. Thanks❤️
I totally agree dailies total one is like iPhone, and Oasys one day is like the Samsung and One plus. Which is much better
My allergies are so bad since we moved to hawaii and my eyes are the Sahara. Plus i got month long contacts instead of weekly last time and they’re so dry that I can’t even see out of them half the time. Or they’ll just fall straight out. Doesn’t help that my dad and i have horrible dry eyes without allergies or contacts or anything it’s so crazy though bc i used to wear contacts EVERY DAY all day bow I can’t go even two hours without going blind from the dryness.
Awesomejust started running last month and for my first 8 mi I got a bad blister
Is it possible to be allergic to contact lenses? Or the solution that its in when it is inside the packaging?
rewetting drops isn’t available for me.can i use artificial tears while wearing the lenses??
What daily lense would you recommend for severe dry eyes if you have astigmatism?
can’t believe you have this topic….was going to talk about it myself:-)
I use the daily contacts and my eyes still get super dry and the contact eyedrops don’t work for long when I do use them. after like 20 minutes I have to reapply. This happens abut 2 hours after I put the contacts on. What else can I do so my contacts don’t feel so dry and make everything blurry?
I have severe ( I mean severe) dry eyes. I wore contacts since I was 40,and I use restasis, other artificial eye gels.I’ve did them all ( lol) Would you think I’d be a candidate for contacts??My doctor is awesome and all,but she said there’s nothing more to help. Thank you.
Thanks for the tips, Harry.
Would you give us some tips on preventing ankle sprains in trail running?
I want to know if anyone has this experience with there contacts. Like when i put in the contacts they are not very comfortable in the beginning but after a few hours i notice it less. And even 12 hours later i would almost forget that i have them in.
thank you Harry! I got lot of blisters on my feet today, I did my first half maraton distance. I thought used thin shocks gonna be having more breathable.
If I am treating an intact roof blister that is fluid filled and therefore raised, I assume that 7mm orthopedic felt (donut pad) is what you would suggest, covered by mixomull. I am concerned about the tape in this scenario sticking to the roof of the blister. After applying the donut pad, would a piece of gauze be suitable to cover the blister before applying the mixomull?
Cheers for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about Chireetler Fighters Combinations Rule (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for understanding the secret to please a lady in bed without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my GF at very last got cool results with it.
I have been using acuve oasys 1 day. And the contacts feel better in my eyes the longer i wear them. But when i had a different brand it made my eye dry out and be so uncomfortable so fast.
which contact solution is best for acuvue oasys for astigmatism contacts?
Can you make a video about CRT/Orthokeratology? Advantages/disadvantages and who would be a candidate as well as possible side effects?
Can I put the band-aid on even if the blister is already there?
My contacts form a ring around my iris whenever I wear them for more than 3 hours and then my eyes turn bloodshot for days. Doctor said he has no clue and I should just stick with glasses
Some really good info… Couldn’t focus though after seeing the reflection in your sunglasses..
Dailies Total 1 are amazing! Had sticker shock though, so finishing my other boxes first.
Sort of allude to this after last tip but my #1 tip to prevent blisters in long run is to keep your callouses and calloused remnants of blisters! Don’t shave them. Calloused skin prevents future blisters.
I have blister everytime I wear leather shoes, I tried wear 2 socks to protect my feet didn’t work, even I bought from amazon, it helps for few time, after still blister. It’s annoying because I can’t wear any leather shoes type. But it’s totally fine when I wear sneakers.
Toe socks! Haven’t had a blister in 2 years since I started wearing toe socks on all my runs.
My elderly mother had cataract surgery some two years ago and has experienced severe dry eye since. Artificial tears, gel and even Ikervis eye drops have proven only slightly beneficial, prompting me to believe that only punctal plugs remain as an option. Have there been any studies on scleral daily contacts for dry eye, or would these merely exacerbate the problem? Thank you!
Great stuff someone told me to put vaseline between my toes and then stick my socks on:-)
I use Dailies Total 1 Multifocal, they still get so dry I want to rip them out. Any other suggested brands/contacts worth reviewing please let me know, much appreciated!!
Why do i see blurry when i see up close for example using my phone
I recommend measuring your heel to toe size objectively and then going for 0,5-1 cm more in space. This is much more precise then just saying “at least a thumb width of space”.
Thanks Harry! Quick question. The two pair of socks, are they the same type? One thinner that the other or the same? Thanks-Larry aka “Snake”
A little off topic but I am trying to find a good long distance training shoe but I have problems finding the right pair because my feet are flat and wide. I am Sydney based and am looking for a walk in shop to find a good pair. I am interested in Altras but would like to try a pair on before purchasing. I run around 50km a week and looking to increase it further in the future. Thanks for any help in advance.
I’ve always had a difficult time finding toric contacts that didn’t dry them out. I have flat corneas and I always wanted dailies but my dr said they didn’t really have any toric dailies with my bcI believe it’s 8.8 Past few years I wore the biweekly Biofinity Torics and in the Acuvue Oasys but they started getting dry after three hours or so. Finally there are a few out there with the higher bc for me This year I’m in the Dailies AquaComfort Plus and I love them. I am not sure of the difference between these and the Totals but I can’t even feel them and I can go a good 8-10 hours before wanting to peel them off so a win-win finally. Plus I LOVE using a brand new pair every time and no cleaning at night
Blink contacts is my favorite rewetting eyedrops because it doesn’t sting my eyes like some other eyedrops do.
I strongly suggest clear care it is a hydrogen peroxide solution to clean your contacts and moisturize them I really do feel a different between this and regular contact solution it really keeps my contacts very most through the day
Absolutely perfect advice. Shoes that fit, double socks and lubricate. Spot on Harry.
Do you have a video on GPC? I have it and it makes me crazy and freak out
Which type of eye glass I have to wear for migraine problem sir…? I suffering from migraine problem almost 2 year plz give me any solution.
Dr Allen. Does wearing contacts causes tiny veins in the white eyes? I have tried wearing dailies for a few days and saw that I have more tiny veins in the white eyes. Not sure if it’s because i wasn’t good at putting them in and removing them when I started.
I started wearing contacts 6 months and was wearing them consistently (I have the two week wear) and didn’t have any problems. When we were quarantined from March -May I didn’t wear my contacts. Then I decided to wear them again recently and they’ve been causing me so much dry eye! Idk what happened.
Hi doctor, what about the clariti 1 day from Coopervision? I heard that with DT1 might feel some stiffness at the end of the day when you remove the lens
Has anyone had their toes to go numb while running? My big toe goes numb if I run fast enough, long enough and wonder if it’s normal..Perhaps it’s my shoe?
In a prior video you mentioned that contact lenses that are too tight would be something an eye dr. would notice? Should I be concerned if there is a visible ring left behind when I take off the contacts I’ve been wearing…?
i use contact lenses for sport, after 3 hours i already cant get my eyes barely open, they make me feel tired so much. tries dailies total, doesnt work so good. really depressed from bad vision
Cris, good video. With the Injinji socks, what works for me is to slip them on, line up the toes, then make sure you push in the loose material between your toes, instead of trying to initially pull them over your toes. Seems to work for me.
I have s blisters on my feet and it’s almost a week and the blisters is not popping..can I pop it?
Hello, I currently have a “deroofed blister” the same size and location of the one in the video picture. I’ve been using a liquid antiseptic to clean it and Neosporin to dress it while wrapping it with gauze to somewhat let it breathe. Should I be using a bandage to completely seal it off so no air gets to it, or is the gauze acceptable? Also, the center has become very red as if developing a blood clot from walking on it. Is that normal or should I be concerned and take more preventative measures? Thanks in advance!
I’ve ran in Adidas Boston, Nike Pegasus and never had a blister after nearly 1000km over 3 years.
I just ran 7km in a new pair of Hoka Clifton 5 and now both feet have blisters on the arches.
I will be following your tips.
Thanks
I just tried one of the supposedly best contact lenses on the market and it was a terrible ordeal trying to remove them. After wearing them for seven hours, no matter what I did they dried completely out. The worst part was the removal of it. It was like wearing suction cups. I almost scratched my eyes out!!! Granted, I have severe dry eye syndrome and myopic retina, lattice, degenerative disease, but now I’m back to being legally blind. I also need prism glasses that are worn together with the lenses. That also blocks oxygen drying the eye out more. Contact lenses are not good for everyone, especially with severe dry eye syndrome. It can actually harm your visual acuity. Infections can occur causing more damage to your cornea. For people like me, it’s definitely not worth it. Yet an optometrist was trying to sell me them. They are also more costly than glasses and if your eyes are sore from other issues like allergies be aware of the pain and damage it can cause. Before my vision decreased, I used to wear them and then I tried the new ones out. They still can’t be worn. With all of our technology you would think they could come up with a cheaper and better solution to millions of low vision people❣️
For a month, I was wondering why my contacts would not stick to my eye. I came to realize that it’s because I don’t actually clean them properly, and rub them they way you are supposed to. I used to just rinse it, but I realized once I put it back on my eyes, the contacts lenses would continue to be dry. It was uncomfortable.
Please make video on intense pulse light treatment for dry eye.
That will work in a short trip. what about long hikes like a month? should you pop the blister?
I found instead of covering your feet with powder, you move the powder when you pull your socks on, put the powder in your socks and give the socks a shake, then put them on. It works for me.
I use Hydrasense night gel eye drops as my dry eye and rewetting drop…. Contact lens safe. It’s also completely preservative free too,an added bonus.
Best tip ever!….SEE YER EYE DOC! Every CL wearer MUST get a CL checkup at least once a year. Eye disease happens unbeknownst to you.
Using tape was my first solution when i started going over 5K, but can get expensive if you have to do it every time (now I save for runs that are a bit out of the ordinary). Better fitting shoes, tying them properly and some good sock worked the best. One question I do have is: what is the best thing to do once you get them mid-run?
Recently I felt one starting, on the top of my baby toe, halfway through a 22 km route and because of the route I picked I was committed to finishing it (and it grew quite big by the end). At the time I didn’t know what to do beside re-tying my shoe so I just kept going. Is stopping the only real choice to avoid making it worse?
I play football and have very bad blisters on my toes from where me feet sweat and move around, do u think that this will work the same?
How to not get blisters: stay at home.
I went for a really long hike and my feet are destroyed:,(
Thank You Dr Allen! You by far is one of the best eye doc’s that explains stuff clearly. You are very knowledgeable and your utbes r very informative. Thankyou!
Nice to know there are more inadequate blinkers out there than me. Who would have thought that was a thing. Practice practice full blinking. Ugh. Another thing to do.
If double socks feel too bulky, go with tights or knee highs as the inner layer, preferably inside out if there are seams.
I have Sjogren’s and the dry eyes that go hand in hand with that and meibomian gland dysfunction. I also have MS so my eyes have a rough go of it. I use Dailies, Refresh eye drops, Lotemax steroid drops and still have lenses dry up, fold over, come out, etc. I wake up in the morning feeling like I slept with my eyes open, dry, lids stick to the eyeballs until I put in a ton of Refresh eye gel. Fun times! You can only do so much and just have to live with it, I believe. Great vids, Doc.
Hii do you any recommendations for contact lens that is the best for dry eyes which is also for astigmatism??
I like the Night & Day contacts — even if I’m not sleeping in them. They seem to be 100% more breathable than most I’ve tried. Using the transitions lenses now, though. The UV protection they offer is worth the small and almost invisible discomfort.
I’ve persevered with the Total 1’s but I’m afraid despite all that amazing technology I still don’t get on with them. They seem to dry out incredibly quickly and by the end of the day feel like bits of broken glass in my eyes lol!! It’s a shame as I love Alcon’s other dailies…All Day Comfort and Aqua Comfort Plus. I wear these regularly and find them so comfortable. But in terms of silicone hydrogel lenses Acuvue Tru Eye are still my favorite closely followed by Oasys
THIS IS AMAZING AM REALLY INSPIRED LOOKING FORWARD TO BE LIKE THIS DOCTOR!
What happens if your lens gets stuck and you can’t get it out?
Pretty soon Alcon (they manufacturer of the Dailies Total 1) will be releasing a new lens called Precision 1 that is supposed to bring down some of the technologies from Dailies Total 1 to a cheaper price point (they are going for the 1-Day Moist market). Hopefully this will help bring down the cost of comfort.
