Went for a cost effective summer switch up on apparel. The Higher State Run Vest 2.0 and Race Short 2.0 sourced through Sportsshoes.com as cheap as and fine on quality. Only a 1 season job but at £6 you can’t go wrong!
I usually buy quarters from nikes, they’re worth 9 bucks. Great for comfort and reflectivity for my night runs.

Best summer gear for me: Naked Running Band w/soft flask. Best fitting band and better than most running vests I’ve tried. Plus can stash phone, gels, keys, bottle etc with no bounce.

Ever tried 2 in 1 shorts?
I wear Nike’s phenom 2 in 1 shorts….. very supportive, similar to compression shorts. But they seem a bit warm to wear in the summer. I don’t like “lined” shorts (shorts with built-in briefs)…. just don’t fit everywhere well, although they are much cooler ;-/
Highly recommend ciele for hats and then goodr sunglasses. Both don’t break the bank but are great quality

Biggest summer running essential is DETERMINATION!! I’ve been finding it difficult to get out of bed at 5:30 and go for my runs in the morning when it’s near 30 degrees and humid, really have to force myself. One thing I do is post my goals on a post-it note near my alarm so I always see it when I wake up.
On a more serious note, sunscreen is absolutely vital. I just use it on my face and wear a hat since the sun isn’t that strong in the morning, but if you do afternoon runs use it all over your body. Everything you listed were great too though, nice list.
I said this before, but that looks really cool when you run through the water.
I’ve been going down the sunscreen rabbit hole, finding some people like the standard avobenzone based sunscreens, other like the zinc based ones, and that sunscreen enthusiasts are importing sunscreens from Japan with a new chemical not approved in the US yet. What does kofuzi use?
Sunscreen even in the winter… yes… I got a burn on the face in February while ice fishing… who’d a thunk?
Still to find socks that won’t shrink during any run..within a few miles they always try to strangle the piggies..I’ve tried every material and some very expensive ones but they all do the same thing..doesn’t seem to matter if thin or thick..they all shrink

Hi Edbud. Love your vids. I currently have the Reebok Run fast2 in my rotation as well as the Brooks Hyp. Tempo. I find after about 10km the Reeboks give me significant Achilles pain. I dont get that with My 1080s or my Ghosts. What do you think? Planning on doing a 50km this Sunday. I think it will have to be the 1080s I love them!!
About three years ago I bought like ten socks from Nike and today some are starting to degrade, starting to appear a hole at the big toe. KKK

For some reason I just dont like the combined tights/ shorts. It’s only preceded by the even worse long tights with shorts over it. It’s just wrong. Like wearing your underwear over your jeans. Also wrong. And running without a shirt. In Europe we don’t do it. I still consider you part of Europe Ed…
After switching from a UK shops own brand to some bigger brands, I got far less blisters and have lost less toenails as well. I find compressport socks don’t last very long though so save them for every day.

Balega and Falke ultra light, nice and thin and breathable, and great moisture management… no show socks with the Achilles tab is my style
Only Darn Tough or Smartwool socks for me. Nothing beats Merino wool.

A tip for machine washing. White vinegar rinse. Acts as a fabric softener and gets rid of bad odours and it’s good for the machine as well. And you just can’t beat that salad dressing smell while running!
Echoing the Flex Stride 2 in 1’s being awesome for support, and similarly the Aeroswift’s for faster days. Not sure if you guys get their gear over in the UK, but I’ve really enjoyed some of the Tracksmith tanks and shorts for warmer days. The stuff is a bit pricey but extremely high quality! Also a brief update, know you’re trying the Endorphin Pro soon…it’s one of the airier, more breathable shoes out there. Perfect for hot weather.

Bought the Nike Miler Tank after watching this �� agree on the Nike Shorts. Checkout Castore.com I use them for race day shorts\tanks weigh nothing and moves the sweat away, price’s are £££ but often discounts\sales.

You should really try Ciele brand hats. They are quite pricey but by far the best hats I’ve ever ran in. Very comfy, moisture wicking, and durable. Also they have a ton of cool design options.

Summer? I am still in autumn kit. I wear clothe hat, winter weight cw-x an airtex t-shirt and a very light t-shirt over that and thick socks and gloves. This is in 21 deg C and humid, but its dark outside and I have not eaten in 20 hours. I have a body light and that gives off some heat as well.
Injinji toe socks. For marathon or over, best form of blister protection I’ve ever come across.

Salomon Xa caps are the best I have used. Very lightweight, lots of nice colours. Great for wicking sweat and I just wash them in the sink every day, come right back to shape for the next run. They even make a model with a neck protector. I have two that I alternate and have over 5000K on them and they are still in very good condition.

Bit on the pricey side, but I had a delivery of gear from Saysky last week. Must say that my early impressions of their Singlets, Shorts and Socks has been extremely positive. Really lightweight and wicks the sweat away brilliantly. I start sweating pretty heavily about 2 miles in to an easy run. The quality of their presentation and the professional way in which the goods are delivered from Copenhagen makes me hope that I will be purchasing from them again if I can pick up some good cut price deals.

I love the flex ride shorts! I wear them for every race. Lol, I do wear the liner style ‘man tights’ a lot. I always think about the song from Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

I have the nike cushioned socks and anti-chafing socks. Though they are 20USD a pair(as far as i can remember), never regretted buying it. I used to have blisters on my left ankle and now its gone. I hope I can find these brand here in the Philippines…
“Are they worth it?” is a loaded question. Is ANY pair of socks REALLY worth $12? Or $15? Or $18? What do they cost to manufacture? How many people from the factory to the point of purchase have made their living off that single pair of socks, with the price basically doubling every time it passes hands? Ditto for running shoes, if you want to get down to it. When I worked at the Morristown Running Company in NJ in 2005, Asics had their Kayano sock-$18 for a pair, in 2005. If someone bought them, all I could say to myself was “sucker”. Some socks ARE better than other socks (I run in Balegas.) Are they worth $12/pair to me? I guess they are. Is ANY pair of socks really worth $12? No. There is real value, and then perceived value. And perceived value is what keeps manufacturers in business. (Steve jumps down from soap box.)
I wish I could run again. I’ve been a long distance runner since 7th grade (I’m in 10th right now) and I’ve always had a dream of success in highschool. I did great in xc/track my 8th and 9th grade year, I felt like there was nothing to worry about besides being marching band too. Then this year it took a turn for the worse. Around March of 2019, I was going on a long run with my friends and I tripped and fell on top of my arm. My left ribs/side took all the impact to the ground. It took about a month to heal. August of 2019, I had XC and marching band at the same time. So I got really behind in band and was waking up really late for XC in the morning. Then out of the ordinary, I started to have a sharp pain on my left shoulder blade and left ribs. I ignored it obviously, still kept running and marching band. ThenI noticed that I wasn’t getting anywhere in xc, my times where horrible and I started falling behind. My coach was disappointed, he moved me from varsity to junior varsity bc of my times. I was frustrated and sad. I went to the doctor and they told me I had a torn muscle. (Probably the injury from March didn’t heal correctly)They also told me to not run anymore, that made me really sad. At least I still had band. Fast forward to January 2020, track has already started. Obviously I was way out of shape. So I ran everyday, just like I use to back then. I noticed that I was improving gradually. My track coach was proud of me! Around mid February I ended up pulling my hamstring and it made me fall behind. I started to worry that I was going to do really bad just like I did in xc. So I took a week off. A week later I was back again, normal. I was getting better and better, then things took a turn for the worst, even more worst than XC. During a track meet, i noticed that I was having a sharp pain on my “shin”. I was a lil bit skeptical but I took some medicine and taped it before the race. After the race it was hurting even more. I took an epsom salt bath, but it didn’t help. I week later the pain was gradually getting worse. During the track workouts I was limping pretty bad. My coach was mad at me and told me to just roll it and just ice it. I didn’t want to tell her that I can’t run anymore bc I already disappointed my XC coach. So I pushed through the pain. I remember specifically this one work out, we where doing 4x300m and on the last two I pushed very hard and when I got to the finish line my legs just gave out. I was in so much pain, but I sucked it up and moved on. I also didn’t want to tell my parents bc I knew they would say things like, oh ur just running too much and ur not eating or stretching enough. My eating and stretching habits are amazing. Ok back to the point, everyday I would walk to school limping really bad, it was a struggle especially going up the stairs, since most of my classes where up stairs. March/spring break, we had to go workout during spring break. I got out of the car and limping as usual. My coach asked me, how u feeling and I told her the truth and she said well stretch and try to run the mile warm up and see how you feel. I started to run and immediately felt the pain. I only made it to 3/4 of the first lap before I gave out and started to cry. My coach said to not run for the text of the week and just ice it. Then the whole pandemic started and I took a whole entire month off of running. About a month or so ago I started to run again, the first week was fine, then the pain came back again and it’s getting worse. I know it’s not shin splints. Last week I went to get a X-ray, and they didn’t see anything, I told them the pain was in a very specific spot. They where concern and told me I need and MRI to see what up with my leg. The doctors also told me it has to do with my ligaments around the shin and not the shin. So it’s a mystery and I’m getting desperate to run. I haven’t ran correctly since January. And I haven’t ran happily since 2018. I’m just very depressed and frustrated but I try not to show it. As I’m typing this, tears are stating to roll out. Pls guys, love your self and take care of your body. I’m just about done, and about to give up on what I love doing the most… running
I should have been running since April, bc XC starts in mid July. That means from today I only have less than two months to get ready, which isn’t enough time

Swiftwick, Balega and Fitsok are more affordable brands that are still very solid running socks ☝️ feetures are definitely one of the higher end ones but I wouldn’t knock the other guys
I have mostly Drymax socks at the moment, which are fine, but I want to try some other brands.
I do like the half tights shorts combo at the moment. The wife got me some Nike combos and they are fantastic.

Interesting. This year I start wearing half long tight for summer running for exactly the same reason you mentioned here. The brand for it I love most is osielle which has 5 pockets. It’s perfect for marathon race
My favourite running shorts are Running Rabbit, I also wear their hat. Shirts are usually Nike or Salomon Tech. Socks are Bombas. Lots of sunscreen and always sunglasses.

I run in saucony performance comfort socks. They are breathable and keep my feet dry. Definitely worth it.
I play a ton of golf and I usually just wear golf hats. Nike has some insanely breathable Nike golf hats.
I wear Asics tech running socks. They are cheap and they do the job pretty well.
Stance is in a similar price range and I just use them as my main socks

Since I began wearing knit uppers I started wearing DryMax hyper-thins. Pretty happy with those. Can’t bring myself to wear 3″ shorts, so I wear rabbit FKT 5″. A little pricey, but similar design as what you wear. Thanks for all the information.

I have 10 Ironman flash pro socks for some reason my ma bought them from another guy who said he got a discount pack from a store closing down and liquidating their stuff. They’re like 10 years and still in good shape besides the lint.

After watching this video, I visited My local Academy Sports and purchased a pair of max cushion Feetures socks. Ran three mile in a pair of ASICS Kayano 25 and Feetures and I have to say my feet felt awesome during and after my run.

About those tights, Mrs Eddbud disapproves of, well, what’s the problem exactly? Just because they show up some natural undulations? So does the female form show up natural undulations and nobody complaints about that, eh? Go for comfort.
I’m going to give a few quick tips and I’ll keep it quick because I know it’s summer and everyone wants to be out there enjoying the weather. 1) Don’t overlook retention ponds as good places to find ducks to kiss. Most people assume smaller bodies of water aren’t going to have ducks, but I’ve been on plenty of runs near golf courses, suburban subdivisions where I’ll see a good number of ducks in the pond it’s a smaller body of water so it’s easy to swoop over, grab a duck, and start kissing. 2) Share your supplies it’s hot out there. Just finished a long makeout session with a duck and ready to put it back down in its pond or nest? Don’t forget to apply some sunscreen and offer it a drink of water. EVERYONE’s body needs protection during this hot period and the more care you show to the duck, the more likely he’ll be there for your next round of kissing. 3) Don’t forget an instant camera. I realize we like to keep things light when we run, but some of my most memorable kissing encounters with ducks are memorable because I took a snapshot of the kissing and actually had a PRINT OUT. It’s fine to have it on your phone but being able to quickly post it on your refrigerator or desk at work helps to cement the experience and makes it more tangible. Anyway, good summer running to everyone and may you all enjoy long, passionate experiences kissing ducks across their bills, webbed feet, beautiful plumage, under their tails, and so forth.
Is your Nike aeroswift Tanktop a slim fit or regular fit one? I tried it on at Dick’s sporting goods and all the tops were slim fit. It felt super comfy but it looked like a crop top on me. They don’t even sell the aeroswift tank on Nike’s site.
Runnings hats are great, and so are running visors MASSIVELY underrated.
Just by coincidence I ordered those RGear half tights and another pair of RGear running shorts from RoadRuner sports online over the weekend. As for shirts I have at least a dozen tech shirts primarily from nike and under armour. And for socks I have settled on Stance for right now. I will admit they aren’t the cheapest socks at about $16-18 a pair for the low cut tabbed socks. But they are very comfortable terrific at moisture wicking and have plenty of colors to choose from.
I wear CEP for my long runs (soon to change), I wear either Nike quarter and crews. I, however recently tried Stance socks sold where I work (Cleveland Indians Team Shop) let me tell y’all; Stance socks are TO DIE FOR! Cushioned and comfortable where it’s needed! I ran a 5k in them and my feet felt great and cool the whole way!
They are not so expensive if you compare them with other brands such as compressport or cep.

I wear Salomon Xa cap, singlet i favour Ronhill as Nike Aeroswift was a bit pricey for me! Ronhill infinity marathon shorts or lululemon shorts (I won them in a race, otherwise too pricey for me also). Socks I’m all over the place with. But as with everything running, it’s what works for the individual
I have learned an interesting little known fact recently: in the UK eggs boil at 17C.Hm. I live in Australia and in a part where we have sunshine practically every day and many warm to very hot days. Even when running either very early in the morning or later in the evening, my hot weather gear gets a lot of use: moisture wicking shirts, shorts and sox are a must. My current favourite shirts are UnderArmour Vanish. They are super super meshy and are excellent at keeping me cool. I also enjoy my Nike dri-fit shirt. On hot days, I can see that my 1080v10 shoes will be way too hot because their uppers are very dense. For those days, I would choose either my Rincons or the Novablast because out of all the shoes I’ve got, they have the lightest most breathable uppers. Next up would be my Rebels.

I commented on the underwear vid recommending Stance. I watched your sock vid too and understand your perspective but if you’d like to try something specifically to stay dry (with your lake front escapades) try a pair of Stance Ventron socks. I promise i don’t work for them:) just a big fan and gear geek in general. A big plus of Ventron is that its also extremely durable. thanks as always.
Got into Zensah socks recently and I’m loving them. I also have a bunch of Smartwools and Darn Tough wool socks and those are great also. Only wool or wicking socks for me, and if you don’t put them in the dryer they’ll last long enough to pay for themselves.

Cool rundown of your summer items and welcome to the half tight movement! Not only do they look cool! They are super functional for all the reasons you mentioned. My go to short however this summer has been the Track Smith session shorts they feel like magic so I can get the benefit of a split short but comfort of a pair of tights and a very critical back pocket big enough to hold my phone and keys. You may want to give those a try if you are looking to add another pair of shorts to your arsenal.
I love my feetures too. I use them when i do speed repeats but when i run long distance i love my no brand bamboo socks thats soft stretchy and thin with a sockless feel just to prevent blisters and stinky feet. Cheers.
Hey Edd, have you ever had problems getting injured while rotating the shoes you run in? I recently got a pair of zoom fly 3s, and have so far only used them when going on my faster runs, but have continued to wear my extremely well worn Asics when doing my easy runs. There’s a very noticeable difference between the height of the shoes, and I’m not sure if the problem is related, but I’ve been getting lots of niggling injuries since I started doing this, all to do with my lower legs (knee, shin, calf). Just wanting your opinion on it. I understand you’re a busy man, so no problem if you can’t give a detailed reply. Keep up the good work.
I used to get blisters all the time. I started wearing injinji socks when I ran. I no longer get blisters.

one thing during the summer, especially here in Texas, that i usually do not leave without is at least 1 “PickleJuice Sports” for muscle cramps. take it about half way just in case.
Go to Walmart and buy the Russell brand workout socks. They don’t sale them online just mainly at Walmart. They’re like budget running socks but are actually really good for the price
I need to find run shorts that won’t feel restricted. You got any videos on ranking run shorts? I usually wear some Nike’s but the liner doesn’t help.
