Oh my goodness, another one I forgot about. I had a sweet teacher that did not have children of her own so she did special things with us in our little country school about 1955, 6th grade. She bought enough dates for everyone to fix 1 dozen for our parents for Christmas. We washed our hands, wax paper on our desks and a round large meatball size of filling was given to us to knead & fill our dates. Passed out pecan halves & put in a container from home(old oleo box) and wrapped it to take home the same last day of school for our holiday break. Thank you for reminding me and giving me the recipe, can’t wait to make(eat) them.
Hi miss Phyllis just to show that some of those recipes are still scrumptious and that added pecan just right as you say good for a party sometime when a person gets to exotic you loose a lot on the original flavor bleu cheese is so strong I don’t see it myself, you know in France we are pretty strong about eating snail well I went to a party while on vacation instead of that wonderful garlic and butter sauce they had made a mixture of the above cheese how sad for the hostess nobody would touch them. Just a little aside have a great day and nice pat to Peppy
My Grandma used to stuff dates and divinity together. I don’t recall if the divinity was inside the dates or the dates were pushed into the divinity. Whichever it was, those were the most delicious candies!
Wow! I wouldn’t have thought of this combination, but I’ll bet it tastes amazing. Thanks!
my mom used to make them and they were out candy. thank you so much I had forgot about having them. I’m going to make some and savor the memories. that and stewed prunes my dad would make were yummy.
My mom always made these at Christmas. She chopped up some walnuts and mixed with the cream cheese. We would sit on the floor in front of the fire place. Such a great memory!! Thanks so much.
I have seen these done also with coconut and an almond in it dipped in chocolate a little healthier version of an almond joy lol!
Those look great. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I have to say you are far and above women of today. I don’t think there’s much you can’t do. Mr Bucky is fortunate to have you.
Cannot wait to make these! I watch a video from you and from Mr Bucky every single evening. I feel as though you are family! Keep those videos coming!
love your channel, do you have a pot pie recipe or grow up on pot pie??
A little bite of pure deliciousness!! Served along with some other tailgating food, these stuffed dates didn’t last long at all! Will have to at least double or triple the recipe next time! Good point about steaming the dates, Ms. Phyllis. Your “tips & tricks” are as appreciated as much as your recipes! Thanks for taking the time to make and upload your videos!!
This looks delicious and I will be making them for sure. Thank you.
Phyllis my grandma used to make fondant stuffed dates at Christmas along with old fashioned cooked fudge. Our family was given a whole shirt size box of yummy goodies every Christmas. I’ve often thought I should make the fondant stuffed dates. My father told me his mom used to make a candy (like fudge consistency) with dates maybe called a date roll?
Hello, Mrs Phyllis, i hope everyone is doing well, I just keep seeing your older videos posting. Please let us know if everything is okay.
Mrs. Phyllis My Mom makes something like this but with prunes, and they are very good. I’m sure the dates are much sweeter, and with 2 pecan halves, got to be good. thanks Susie
Love the baggie idea…anything that makes life easier cannot be a bad thing.
My mother used to make stuffed dates for holiday gatherings. She used walnuts. I don’t know if she steamed the dates, but that sounds like a great tip. She would roll them in sugar at the end.
Mama made these when I was a little girl.. I loved them..I wasn’t sure what the filling was but this looks like it could be close..thank you
Great Video!!! I am going to Sam’s Club this week to get some dates! This is a healthy sweet snack with none of that junk and preservatives in pre-packed things… And they look so nice too. They would be really great to make and give as a gift. I agree with you on the handling. You are very smart to steam them first. Thank You Miss Phyllis. I love your channel! Love, Cathy <>< <>< <><
Wow! They look wonderful. And I once asked you what the difference between Medjool dates and Parnoosh was-well the Medjool are huge compared to the other type. They wouldn’t last long around here!
Sweet Miss Phyllis this looks so delicious… I am binge watching your videos again today LOL
I haven’t had a stuffed date in years and these sure look delicious. I’ll be making them for /thanksgiving when everyone is over..
I have a relative who makes something like this, but hers is a tad different. She puts the cream cheese in the date, but she uses walnuts instead of pecans, then she wraps the date in a half a piece of bacon and runs everything under the broiler in the oven. The bacon comes out crispy. The sweet of the date and the salty of the bacon is so, so good. She always brings a platter of them to our holiday meals. I can’t get enough of them, they are so delicious.
Yummy! I could see a dose of lemon or orange zest in the cream cheese. I bet many of us could put our own spin on these. Thanks, Phyllis. As I write this, it’s Dec. 15, 2017…wouldn’t these make a lovely gift? Merry Christmas!
I can’t wait to try these, I’ll do a trial run before making em for family at xmas. love your videos & thank you for sharing.
Thank you
I’m going to make it with chicken and mayonaise instead of yogurt and add a little salt and pepper.
My favorite dishes when I go to morocco are chicken and apricots / beef and prunes with almonds.
Yum!
I remember my mom putting peanut butter on hers. I have a bar recipe that is like the old fashioned raisin bars that Nabisco made. Now I’m going to have to buy dates on my next trip to Sam’s Club
I tired this recipe. I’ve recently just tried dates and the recipe was odd to me but it is a perfect blend of sweet and salty. Delicious. Was a hit for my guests:) Thanks Alia.
Wow! We would only stuff the dates with walnut and then dip in powdered sugar. New treat for our Christmas! Think I’ll only do half a recipe tho.
You are so lovely! Those look delicious thank you for sharing
They look just like the ones I remember from the ’60’s! Yours are actually prettier! Your so right, EVERYONE made them. LOL I remember they were SO GOOD too. I didn’t even like dates and I loved these. Thank you so much, I really wanted something different, and this is it. It’s been years and years since I had them. Woo Hoo! Love it. Sheila PS Another thing I thought of the other day was Date Nut bread, the one you got in a can, it was delicious with cream cheese on it too. Only one company makes it now, and it cost a fortune even before shipping is added.
These are delicious. I tried these over the holidays and put them inside candy cups. Wonderful baggy/piping tip! During the holidays you can add half a colored cherry atop. WARNING!!! These are highly addictive!
Love this! I have dates in the fridge from Trader Joes right now except I think mine are dried. Wonder if I steam them they’ll come back… Even if they don’t I’ll work something out like a layered desert because those ingredients look heavenly together. Thanks!
My mother stuffed dates with peanut butter then rolled them in sugar. They were so good.
So festive!! You have such a wonderful variety of desserts and main dishes. I am so limited with food ideas! I love everything you make! It has only been five days since I found your channel, but you have been a tremendous blessing to me in soothing my troubled heart and mind at this particular time. Your beautiful voice and calm manner and delightful dishes have cheered me up so much! Thank you!!
Love this, I think these type recipes were in all the church cookbooks from my Mom’s collection. Do you remember “angels on horseback”? I think it was a water chestnut half in a date with a bit of bacon wrapped around the date with a toothpick through it & then cooked in the oven till the bacon got crisp.
Thanks for this nice recipe,I will try it definitely and see how the combination tastes, keep it up!!
Can you do an update on your progress toward moving to mountain rest? Thanks
I stuff them with peanut butter and roll them in powdered sugar. YUM!!!
Phyllis in the 70’s my mom use to make a date but bad. Haven’t been able to find a recipe for them. They were delicious!
my mom had dates for Christmas she put a pecan in the date and rolled them in sugar, we loved them
I like different food but I can’t imagine how that taste like….
I wanna try sometime.
I would love to see more appetizers or foods that were popular at showers, from the mid 60’s.
Oh wow. I just love dates pecans and cream cheese. Thank you so much for showing me this idea. I’m happy they freeze so i can save some for another time.
Not to be rude but your voice is soft and soothing like my late grandmas(who was from north carolina) that i end up going to sleep and having to rewind the video
…lol
This sounds delicious! Love retro recipes. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Yumm❣Thank You for sharing going to make some for Christmas I’am sure Me & my five children and grand babies will love this healthy treat ❣❤❤❤
brings back memories stuffing dates with almonds and rolling in powdered sugar…..thank you!
Now I know how to make a dish with the dates my mom bought! Thanks, looks tasty!
I want to color the cream cheese pale red and green and have them for Christmas!
looks wonderful. Will be definitely trying these out for the next party invitation.
I am so excited to make these for my Oscars Party this Sunday!
I can remember my Mother stuffing dates with walnuts and rolling them in powered sugar. Probably late 50’sand early 60’s. She made them as a confection at Christmas. Nice memories.
Looks great! I wish you would have eaten one for us. Maybe next time? Thanks Phyllis.
Hi Mrs Phyllis! Where did you purchase your steamer? I really like it!
Hi Miss Phyllis. I love your shortcut with putting the cream cheese in a baggie, adding the sugar and vanilla right to the bag and massaging it instead of using a bowl and mixer. I’m always for easier clean-up. Have a nice day.
My mom used to put peanut butter in them and roll them in powered sugar.
These look great! Have you ever tried them stuffed with marzipan? That’s very nice too:)
simple really…and I know they are special….pecans toast up beautifully the flavors is addicting…I can imagine that with dates…and cream cheese filling…
I will have to try these! the way I use dates to make canapes is to stuff them with a piece of chicken liver that has been gently sauteed in butter, put a tiny, tiny pinch of cayenne or paprika on top, then wrap them with bacon use a wooden toothpick to hold them together after wrapping with the bacon (and you can leave it in as a little “handle” to pick them up off of the serving tray/plate) bake on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil in a preheated 375F oven for 15-20 minutes (or a bit longer if you use thicker cut bacon). sometimes I add a piece of goat cheese beneath the chicken livers it adds a nice creaminess and the flavor isn’t overpowering and doesn’t clash with the taste of the other ingredients.
Hello Phyllis just viewed your video on the stuffed dates with pecan and cream cheese.
I have your say they look so pretty as well as delicious, beautiful presentation I definitely going to try this thanks again God Bless You and Mr Bucky
Simple & easy, which for preparation for gatherings is surely appreciated. Thank you so much Ms. Phyllis!
These look wonderful. I remember my mom making these at Christmas time. I have never thought to do this trick with icing or filling, but I always do it with the filling for deviled eggs.
Miss Phyllis,
My mother always made stuffed dates for the holidays. She bought dates at the market that didn’t have to be cooked. She would stuff them with peanut butter and top with a walnut and sprinkle with sugar. Really delicious. You reminded me to make them for the holidays this year. Thanks.
Those look delicious, Phyllis!! We used to make them by just putting a walnut half inside and then dropping the stuffed date in a bag of granulated sugar to lightly coat.
