I love a good caprese with quality ingredients! My wife grows tomatoes and basil in the garden and this is my favorite thing to do with them!
You are my numero uno chef! I love your recipes and love you too! Thanks for all your recipes.I’m making this tomorrow!!❤
TY I HAVE ALL THE INGREDIENTS MY TOMATOES CAME OUT GOOD THIS YR & MY BASIL. IT DOES ADD A GREAT TASTE IV MADE A SIMILAR SALAD I JUST DIDN’T ADD THE VIDALLA ONION & I LOVE ONIONS. TY AGAIN.
I made this at home and it was a big hit! So delicious! Thanks!
Any other kind of balsamic vinegar you recommend? I can’t seem to find the ortelli brand you have on your blog and the modena balsamics are like $100:(
Why I cookin so goooooood?! Love you Gennaro. Only you can hit that line right
I love Caprese…
“Ya know what else is good? Blanched asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Easy and delish!
this is my favoirt sallad ever:9 cant go wrong ith those tomatoes i buy this ones everytime in in lebanon so good with chesse fresh tomatoes called country tomatoes
Have you heard about Tabbouleh? It is a traditional Lebanese salad
I am tempted to run to the store now to get these ingredients..omg..my favorite..yum.
I’d put the salt immediately after the chopped tomatoes in the plate. That way it starts to liberate all its juices. After with the other ingredients you’ll have some freaking nice dipping for the bread.
I had this in Cyprus but pretty sure it had salami or some other thinly sliced meat on it?
Its a good start but add some finely sliced red onion and perhaps some sliced Bocconcini and there’s a salad to go with anything anytime of the day

I think i will send you some coarse salt hand picked from the rocks by the sea on the island of Kithnos and some oregano that my uncle harvested in the mountain of Dirfi Jamie!
When I do exactly the same with tomatoes the outcome looks very different lol, how does he do that?
I’ve never pronounced that salad like you. It’s Ka pray zay…. right? Italian? I make this all the time at home. I use cherry tomatoes with the balls of mozzarella too…it works good as well.
Ever since Carluccio died, it seems to me that Gennaro is sad inside in every video.

I would try it but grill the tomatoes and melt the cheese as well yum!
Why the fuck did you hone your knife to cut one lemon? its a salad and the only other cut veg comes from a bowl! typical wanna be head chef! take your whites off
this looks so yummy and healthy! Spread positivity and wellness anyway we can people! Especially through delicious food!
This looks delicious and super easy. I’d also add some chopped walnuts and maybe some pomegranate seeds to add some crunch to it.
WRONG!!
Caprese Salad
“Caprese” literally means “from Capri”, an island off the coast of Naples, in southern Italy.
This simple dish is often done “wrong” by adding too many ingredients. No need for bufala mozzarella or balsamic vinegar. If the tomato and the mozzarella are good, all you need is some basil, extra virgin olive oil, and a pinch of salt.
I noticed only Americans do that. I respect the strong taste of basil and it’s really all the flavor you need with a touch of salt.
I like how simple and great your videos are.great inspiration
He is like someone’s grandpa cooking in the kitchen.. very loving and fun to talk to… love him and his cooking!
In this summer when there are tasty tomatoes I will make this often!
I have a question! Caprese is not with balsamic? with only olive oil is original? I am wondering!!
Insalata caprese tastes the best, at least in Europe, end of March, beginning of April, when the bufflons are veiling and milk is the richest, and the first Etna’s and Vesuve’s tomatoes are already ripe, before all the others. Then guys it tastes like the impossible made true.
I love how every single dish that Gennaro makes is always the best thing he has ever tasted in his entire life
ИТАЛЬЯНЦЫ ВЫ ОДНИ ИЗ ЛУЧШИХ В ЕДЕ НА ВСЕЙ ПЛАНЕТЕ!!! спасибо вам за вашу кухню!!!!Привет из России!!
watching all these videos here makes me think I’m drowning my salads in vinegar and pepper and I’m not sure if that’s just my personal taste or if I’m actually messing something up really badly^^
I wonder if I add slivers of salted duck eggs and reduce the use of salt in the seasoning.
” Drizzle of lovely olive oil “
Then hold the bottle upside down for like 4 seconds.
” last but not the least, some basil or Much basil”
God!! I love this man!!!
I can’t watch a Gennaro video without smiling like an idiot. What an honor to learn from him
That bread alone could bring world peace. Did you hear that stuff?
I feel like he’s the only person who can make you eat healthy because he enjoys it so much. I lost 2kgs watching him eat the salad.
I know the italians like it without (because of the green, white +red of the italian flag) but I really like caprese with a dash or a double dash of balsamico.
the recipe is awesome, thank u so much ^^.could u do stuffed cabbage please?^^
I’ve been doing something similar to this for a long time.
Cut bread, put mozzarella on it, slice of tomato on top, olive oil and eat it as sandwich.
He did absolutely nothing but somehow made it entertaining. Love this guy.
The cheese brings out the tomato, the tomato brings out the cheese
the oregano bunch that I can find at the market near me is only 1/8 of the size which Genaro used here!
YOU ARE SO LUCKY LIVING IN BEAUTIFUL ITALY BUT UNFORTUNATELY YOU HAVE TO SPEND TIME IN ENGLISTAN
when he crunched the bread I thought of Colette from Ratatouille
You are just great you give a big value for any thing you prepare even a simple salad am hungry now
OMG it’s amazing!!! Thanks for this video and for the recipe!!!
The bread is terrible in the UK. When I go to the UK and never eat bread. Even M&S bread is terrible. It guwee, under cooked or full of additives.
I wish it were easy to pick up tomatoes like this in the UK.
Gread Idea. Great Tips.Thumbs up.
It is so Easy and delicious.
Never thought making a tomato salad could be so interesting.
Asu, mangan tomat tok we ketoke iso enak banget asu asu genaro asu
Dear Mr. Oliver, this looks very nice, but have you ever tried making salads with pumpkin seed oil? It’s considered THE salad (but also other things) oil in Styria (Slovenia and Austria). I would highly recomend it 😉 Best wishes, B.
Всю жизнь делаю себе такой сала, только вместо моцареллы у меня репчатый лук и одна ложка хересного уксуса. Я и не знал, что мой салат лучшая версия такого известного блюда, как Caprese Salad. Lol
italian cooking is finding the beautiful in the most simple things in life
Thank you. Best instruction ever. It’s hot and humid today in Houston.,went to buy some mozzarella and basil. Used tomatoes from my garden. Thank you. So easy yet so delicious. Viva Italia.
I’ve complained about avocoda in a lot of your dishes. but this recipe is right up my alley looks awesome.
Son of the gentleman where I was washing dishes…on Germantown Pkwy…..spen…I am 50 Percent Italian…thank you for the restaurant. I really appreciate it. Te alii
Yes, it gives me lots of inspiration in cooking. Thanks Jammie.
Sally, when’s the last time you watered these tomatoes? It looks like a tomato graveyard!
Worst recipe i’ve Heard of but nice tomatos. Tomato Salat without onions…..
Now at @ 2:18 jamie is teaching us the proper way to use Chopping Boards..:D
Dishes flavored with such charisma will always be a masterpiece of cooking
i think you must love tomatoes… i do as well noone has any good tomato recipes except you
Cooking with a British accent makes the food look less appetising. Why?
I need help with a recipe, im hosting a party of about 30-40 people and need a dish to make for all of them. What is something easy i can make in bulk for all my guests? I just finished watching your Chicken Alfredo vid because its pasta, cheap and looks great, is there anything you can better recommend? Or should i stick with the Alfredo? Any tips help Thanks!!
what was that dark liquid/sauce you poured on the tomatoes at the end?
I tried this and my wife left me….
And went to the restaurant
Gotcha!
I love your simplistic and educational approach to cooking.:))))
In my opinion, anyone who thinks tomatos are difficult to cut with a straight edge knife has never used a properly sharpened knife. I’ve only sharpened knives maybe 10 times ever (so i’m not very good), but even my knives can cut through tomato with no force other than the weight of the knife
you need to give me a job
it’s cruel to awaken a love of cooking and not give me a way to live from it
Actually in Italy they tend not to add either lemon or vinegar on tomato salads as they think either covers the slight acidic taste of the tomatoes themselves. Only perhaps a bit of balsamic vinegar since it’s sweet. And they would never ever add both lemon and vinegar together.
Love everything Jamie creates! Simple and delicious. Will try it this evening hope to get the variety of tomatoes!
Estos videos de comida italianos están fabulosos ojalá que ubiera podido verlos hace años… es impresionante lo que pueden hacer estas redes de comunicación… como agradecerles en este momento sólo es puedo decir un millón de GRACIAS
Yay I guessed it right!!! I knew it was a caprese salad!!!!
my mom used to make this for me when I was a kid, just without chili
Really good tomatoes don’t need salt, they’re tasty enought without it. I guess your recipe tastes nice, but I don’t think you can feel much of the tomato in there. Far from ultimate.
Hi Jamie
I watched this when it first came out. Tomorrow I’m making this for my first vego Christmas. Looking forward to it!
I had this for supper tonight…light and easy, no balsamic for me. Yummy!
Looks lush pretty sure I’d serve it out the bowl rather than dirty up another plate, though!
This looks so good…gonna try it this weekend. Have you thought about putting out a basics training course for people to learn knife skills as well as cooking skills? Your recipes are great but I would live to learn basics of sauce, saute, palate, etc, so I can take what you do and expand. I love your energy and the way you present the information and chef notes.
WOOOOOOWWW!!!! I LIKE LIKE IT!!!! IT LOOKS FRESH AND DELICIOUS!! AND EASY!! You’re amazing!!! I TAKE YOU MANY KISSES AND GOD BLESS YOUR TALENT ALWAYS!! HAPPY WEEKEND DEAR NAT I WANT YOU MUCH AND YOU KNOW IT!! MMMUUUAAACCCKKKK!!
I watched an episode the other day at my Mothers home but can’t find it anywhere now. James was using home grown tomatoes and also made a “bloody mary” and strained it through Muslin. I really was to find it again.
Love caprese salad, I never tried that dressing but now I will. Thanks!
Come on Jamie, how can you call this the “ultimate tomato salad” when you YOURSELF have made a much better one? The tomato salad with chorizo and sherry vinegar you made in Andalucia puts this plain old boring tomato salad to shame!
This salad is amazing! I just made it and it turned out perfect! Better than I expected! I thought it was just pretty but actually it tastes delicious! Thanks again Natasha for another beautiful recipe!
I would never use basil on my salad But then again I am greek, ahaha.
I also love adding some finely diced shallots to my tomato salad. When these soke up the balsamic vinegar it’s the bomb and makes it all a bit more zingy. It’s great for BBQs etc.
And if you have some stale bread, Cut it up into pieces, drissle with olive-oil, and grill it > ad it to the salad it ads a little crunch and hey, no point throying away stale bread or feeding it to the ducks 😉 (With bread, red wine vinegar is even better than balsamic)
This is so delicious definitely making it thank you for the recipe
LOVE ur personality, love ur recipes and I probably watched every video ever posted under ur name here. I do miss money saving meals the way it was the first 6 episodes. Loads of helpful tips and the bit when you helped others with food waste was my fav. I hardly waste a thing anymore thanx to this show. Please bring it back the way it was.
Saluti dalla Malesia. Grazie per aver condiviso il tuo delizioso video di insalata Caprese chef Gennaro.. Mi manca il cibo italiano e mi manca Amalfi moltisimmi Di tutto italia.
I like to eat spicy food and this recipe is perfect for me. Thanks for the recipe, you’re the best in the kitchen. yummy yummy!
Hi, thanks a lot for this great recipe! I am using it as a basic for my own tomato salad but I am doing it much easier.
I am using as well a lot of different tomatoes and I season it with a lot of different spices (but pepper and salt only work as well) and then I am just adding roasted bread and that’s it.
My family loves it and I am supposed to make the tomato salad at every birthday or party.:)
So thankyou very much and greats from Germany:D
Omg my favorite summer snack, got out in my garden and grab some fresh tomatoes and basil. Try adding cucumbers and red onion and bring to your next picnic. Best if cooled in the fridge for 20 min. Beats the heat here in FL.
It’s a well known fact that the ultimate tomato salad is:
1. Chopped fresh tomato
2. Little bit of onion
3. Salt and pepper
4. Dash of red wine vinegar
5. Olive oil
Let marinade for half and hour. Accept no substitute.
it more easy if u cut tomatoes in 1/4 and then little cube..ty
Anytime this woman tastes her food, you can see it travel through her whole body she does the “happy dance” or “food dance” as I call it lmao shes so sweet!
I watched this video and thought ohh that won’t be too appetising. Until I had a caprese salad at a fine dining restaurant. Ohh my my… I want to grow tomatoes to just make this.
I don’t know is this vinegar available in India right now. Is there any other choices of vinegars?
I made this and it turned out great!!! It was sooooo delicious thank you!
I guess you forgot to drizzle the balsamic glaze over top of that! This looks EXCELLENT!!!
The reason i love our videos is because you make me feel that cooking good meals is super easy but still has gorgeous results. Very inspirational. Thank you for sharing your great jobs.
I learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing your simple, easy, delicious and amazing recipe….
Awesome version of this classic, simple yet elegant! I’m headed to the farmers market right now.
This looks sooo good but I don’t like cheese or tomatoes really makes me sad
The most I love is her beautiful smile.❤️ Thanks for the recipe’s ma’am.
Please keep that smile.
natasha im so happy to see you, i would like to know how to accompany this delicius salad, with beef, pork, chiken or pasta. my best wishes from México city ♀️
Makes balsamic reduction. Doesn’t use it. Insults our intelligence throughout. We know you can do better.
next time you make this salad use a potato peeler on the red onion to get thin slices.
Yummmm! This is by far the best cooking channel on YouTube! Thank you for making these videos!
