The Reformer is the most popular Pilates apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates. It consists of a carriage that moves back and forth along tracks within a frame. The resistance is provided by the exerciser’s body weight and by the Pilates secret sauce—a set of springs attached to.Stretching, Strength & Balance (30 minutes): This full-body Pilates reformer routine will leave you feeling energized and refreshed.

The footbar is a solid and unforgiving piece of metal. Sometimes it is covered with a pad. But I believe a firmer connection is gained when you ride bareback. One of Joseph Pilates’ original inventions and likely the most well-known Pilates apparatus, the reformer was originally named for “universally reforming the body.” It accommodates all levels of Pilates enthusiasts with its unique pulley design, gliding carriage and spring tension system that creates instability while simultaneously supporting the body.
Of the Mat exercises, we have at least early documentation in Return to Life. On the Reformer, despite Joe’s affinity for photo documentation, the order of exercises is more slippery. Since Mr. Pilates died in 1967 his methodology is either taught by individuals who studied directly with him (Elders) or via archival pictures and tapes.Classical Pilates teachers teach within the order of exercises Mr. Pilates created for the reformer and mat.

Hi Kirk,
First of all, every time I come to see your videos, I have a great time watching them. They are very beautiful and inspiring!
If you permit me, I want to ask you some questions: 1Regarding the cadence of each repetition, you strive to do it as fast as possible? 2I’m not sure about this one, but I don’t see you opening your mouth to breathe. If it is the case, is there a specific reason? 3-(This is a personal curiosity, and I hope you don’t mind having such an inconvenient follower, haha) How do you classify your own effort during regular workouts? (Please, use this table: https://www.topendsports.com/testing/images/rpe-1-10.gif)
really nice comments, love your style! strong yet light, great job!:)
what’s with the posterior pelvic tilt? why not stay neutral?
How many springs is each move on? Doesn’t seem like you’re increasing or decreasing the resistance.
I loved this explanation but I have to disagree with the remark that the length of the gratz fits everyone. It’s almost too short for me and I’m only 5’9″. When I sit myself on the reformer, prep to swinging into position on my back, I can have only 1/2 of one cheek on the reformer and the rest of me is hanging over the end well and, even so, when I lie down, my shoulders are jammed against the shoulder blocks. I imagine that Pilates was below medium height. And with the short-box, when I put my feet under the strap, in order to straighten my leg I have to sit way back on the box and have no space between my bottom and the back edge of the box so that there’s no support from the box for the sacrum when I roll back. So, despite the remark that I’ve heard that “whether you’re 4’2″ or 6’2″ the gratz reformer works for you” that’s not true and was certainly not made by a tall person.
I’m really impressed with your channel and layout, mine is so messy! well done its concise and looks really professional:)
Wow! very beautiful! I am a contemporary Pilates teacher but wish I could learn the classical method! There is so much to learn! Very nice!:)
I love that you do heavy breaths to let me know when I should be inhaling and exhaling.
i was looking for a good reformer workout. Very little instruction in this video.
I think you need to be careful putting the short box OVER shoulder supports. Your long box should be put in FRONT of the shoulder supports. You could tip the box into the well and insure yourself.
Thank you so much Sir for the lovely video I subscribed your channel I was looking for a video like this. God bless you Sir your video is great help.
So I priced Pilates equipment back in the late 1990s early 2000‘s and they ran between 2500 to 6000 USD. 2019 I priced it again and they’re still priced at the same price point!!!
Very good workout I enjoyed your voice and execution of the exercises.
I am sad I do not live in your area, well actually in your country! I really enjoyed your work out, your level of voice and gentle energy. But I am inspired to go seek out a Pilates Reformer instructor and Centre in where I live.:)
Very fluid class
Cause it’s so hard or imposible make every exercise and the variations
Congratulations
LOVE!!! this video! Looking to purchase a reformer. Yours seems to move smooth as butter!
I love the classical style, full of principals and control. Thanks for sharing:))
Hi! I have been doing pilates at the gym for 3 years but with the quarantine, we bought the Pilates reformer! so I am new at this. I loved your video and reading the comments I suppose it is not a second part hehe > I will look for your other videos! GREAT CLASSES THANKS A LOT!
Hi Mejo! I want to start saying that I loved your explanation. Thanks for that! But, I would like to say that when someone ask/say “do you feel your stomach” it makes a little uneasy. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but we work our abs/core and not our stomach. The stomach is to hold and process what we eat. I teach and study Pilates and want the best for our industry. By the way, I love your voice. Thanks for sharing the video.
Hello. I have a discussion with a friend, she thinks that you are an afro american, but i think you are white. Great videos, by the way.
Hi Kirk! Thanks for this awesome video. How many reps do you recommend for each move? I’m new to the reformer and have been enjoying it so far. Your videos are very inspiring!
This is HORSESH**. Every non-gratz reformer is adjustable. The height of the straps, the length of the straps, the distance between the bed and the footbar, and more. As for the wheels being rubber vs ball bearing this doesn’t resist the tension of heavy metal spring nearly as much as you think. This is in your head. The springs with resume their shape without a human “pulling” them back to their resting position. You spent the majority of the video leading a workout after attempting to make 3 bogus points about why the gratz is different/better. Not much of a critical thinker, are you?
Hi Nadia, I do change springs, but I do so discreetly, so the changes are easy to miss. Footwork Series and Hundred on 4 springs, Overhead and Coordination on 2 springs, Rowing Series on 1 spring, Long box series 1 Spring except for Swan and Backstroke Swimming, which are on 2 springs. Short Box Series on 2 springs, which are just stabilising the carriage, Long Stretch Series on 2 springs, etc. Basically, if feet are in the straps, I use two springs, if hands are pulling straps, I use one spring. Head stands on 2 springs. Semi-circle 2 springs. Running and Pelvic Lift on 4 springs. Happy to answer any specific question you might have. Thanks again for watching!
Excellent video…would love to see part two. Thank you for these!
Hi there! Love your work! Did you happen to post the second part of the video yet? I haven’t been able to find it. Thank you, so much!!
Can u pls pls make more at home pilates workouts? I can only do mat pilates bc I dont have the machines and cant afford classes atm:/ pls do a Weekly mat pilates workouts!!
Kirk, you are so amazing to watch, and so eloquent. Love your clips!
Very informative! My first experience with reformers was with a Gratz reformer and I got in super shape. My instructor was excellent with cueing and inspiring me to safely push my limits. Unfortunately, due to financial reasons, I am no longer attending classes. Because I have missed this workout so much, I have been researching home reformers. You answered my questions about the rational of the angles and distances of the reformer! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Kirk, what length is the Gratz reformer you use? I am deciding between the 86″ Full Cadillac Reformer or the 80″ Universal Reformer, but I have limited space in my home studio (10 x 10 feet). I forgot to ask my instructor was size their Gratz reformers were, but it was definitely a good challenge to use!Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much! I just got a used Allegro 2 and loving your videos. I am not finding Part 2, can you please point us there?
Is there a part 2 to this? I’ve looked through your reformer list and can’t find it.
Gratz is the best reformer to change the body. period. Love you Mejo!
Thanks for your time and sharing, I found it very interesting!!!! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
