If you unintentionally drop something important as the race is starting, don’t stop and pick it up, causing a traffic jam. Either leave it behind or go to the side of the road and wait for the crowd to thin. When you line up at a race start, make sure that you don’t get.
Unfortunately, officials and police officers were still standing in front of the starting line. The restraining rope, holding the runners back, had not yet been removed. Not good. You will be nervous. You will be tempted to drink Gatorade instead of water, fuel too early, or cross the starting line at a faster pace than you’re used to.
Avoid those temptations. For your best race ever, you should feel confident in your race plan. Stick to what you have prepared to do.
Running consistent e.t. ‘s makes winning easy, but the best place to win races is right at the starting line. Getting a better jump off the starting line than your opponent will win a majority of.Why choosing the right starting position is great: Except in the few races that don’t have timing chips on the bibs (the occasional local 5k) you don’t loose those extra seconds it takes you to get to the starting line once the clock starts. That means that starting further back doesn’t matter, provided the people in front of you are.
Discrimination based on race is contrary to our values and we need to do everything in our power to end it. 2. Use Values as a Bridge, Not a Bypass. Opening conversations with shared values helps to emphasize society’s role in affording a fair chance to everyone.
But starting conversations here does not mean avoiding discussions of race. You won’t acclimate, but you’ll limit your exposure to some of the negative effects of the thin air, such as dehydration and disturbed sleep. Start your race slower, and build intensity.Don’t stand at the starting line unless you’re aiming for a top result. New runners often feel intimidated if all the people nearby zoom right past them.
If this is one of your first races, start further back and you’ll realize there are people of all skill levels competing. 4.White flag: This flag means that the race leader has one lap to go in the race. Checkered flag: When the checkered flag waves, a driver has crossed the finish line and won the race.
Green–white–checkered flag sequence: If there is a caution during the final laps, this flag sequence announces that there will be a green-flag restart of a couple laps. I have upmost respect cause your videos are sometimes under 10 mins and sometimes over so youre not dragging out you vids
Yeeaaaa boi! Tjs is the shit my man! Breakfast is the best lol
I’ve never been in a road rally and I haven’t heard of such an activity in my country, but I REALLY wanna try that. Sounds AMAZING!
Jesus christ the anxiety attack I had from this experience lmao
I don’t understand, i see the title about track day but there is a weird straight line with cars on flat tyre?
Why is just a drag strip considered a track day? What about time attack
Dont go with DDE or you get pulled over as soon as you leave the parking lot
Great video Alex. Or is it Alice? You say it so fast I can’t tell.
Good drivers do not spend a lot of time thinking about the racing line. It is pretty obvious on track…and it changes, even during a race as rubber is laid down. Guys who spend a lot of time analyzing lines are usually slow as molasses. The racing line does not matter one bit if you go slow around a corner because you can not drive the limit.
Alex: “Plus bonus points it m-matches my socks!”
Alex bro, your socks arent pink.
love what you’re doing with the bedrock edition! this is beautiful
Wrong sir that’s a d20 roll not a d100 but nice d&d reference
Closed course drifting is probably the best though no correction the best is twisties on Mulholland no wait the actual best is straight street drifting but then that’s super illegal so I prefer not injuring pedestrians so yeah bottom line Compton Airport closed hanger or a circuit track course drifting yeah that’s the shitt although a NASCAR car course would be pretty cool to drive anyhow okay I’m done oh yeah the reason for this comment RACERS TIP FOR THE TRACK DAY, MAKE SURE YOU DRY RUN AND BRING ALL YOUR SAFETY EQUIPMENT BECAUSE THEIR NOT GOING TO OK YOU TO DRIVE THE TRACK IF NOT! Your welcome OH AND EMPTY OUT UR TRUNK AT HOME AND I DONT THINK I NEED TO SAY THIS BUT IF YOUR PIECE OF SHIT IS ACTING LIKE A PIECE A SHIT LIKE OIL LEAKS OR ANY KIND OF LEAKAGE KEEP YOUR JUNKY AZZ RIDE AT HOME DAWG!! LOL NOBODY LIKES A LEAKY BITCH LOL
Who drives their car only at 70mph on the road lmao the fun is in the speed and the touge
I like to shift slowly and precisely when going down the strip. I’m gunna lose anyway so want to at least have a clean run lol
Since when is a drag strip considered track day? I thought you meant an actual track..
I kinda wanna see what my bone stock (besides coilovers and a couple control arms) will do at a drag strip or auto cross
Important rule: Do NOT think you’re faster than anybody. You gotta beat that track and yourself, not others since that takes your attention away!
Life is about the little things… That are breaking on your 240z
Basically: keep your ego down and keep it easy.
And I highly recommend asking somebody who knows the track to take you for a ride along first. Helped me a lot. And don’t pretend you know shit. You don’t.
A drag strip should definitely not be called a track….
Because it’s not.
Over in my country
“Time to track my car, where’s the nearest race track”
“The next country”
“Ok maybe I won’t then”
Kinda wonder if I ever end up working in another country what car would I get to take to a race track. Probably gonna take something slow and get as much tire width and down force as possible.
Soooo, like a lotus Elise with way too big wings. Or a gt86
“Now you’re narcing cause you got pulled over for nothing”
Well remind me not to ever do anything around this guy…..like da fuck?
Wish they still had these in new zealand that was my dream
Drift events > drag events. Drag events are beyond boring
AWESOME VIDEO!!! I learned a lot!!! Please, more videos loke thos one!!!!!
Look forwards to Sunday because of these videos. Great information Tim.
Nice tips! For me “Going Faster! Mastering the Art of Race Driving”, by Carl Lopez and Danny Sullivan is the definitive book on driving techniques.
great advice. the only thing missing is checking for the grove as you pull up to stage.
At 13:00 isn’t it better to have less distance to do against current so boat end is better start?
In fact why not boat end and tack to right lay line so you get into what is then current going partially with you, rather than going pin end to far left and having partially against you at 2 knots?
If higher rung towards wind is best, why not higher rung towards current?
Decided to go on your first track day? DON’T GO TO A DRAG STRIP, THEN.
Traction is way deferent on a track so you been street racing think you ready well your not.
Why is driving in a straight line hard for Americans? Colin McRae is rolling
Rally tip: if your gps takes you the wrong way, it’s mostly likely going to take you through the ghetto
Story: happened, won the rally still
I don’t fully agree with the first situation. Cause if there is a substantial shift, or if the wind is very shifty, starting at the pin statistically gives you more options
Peter… contact me if you will
This is advanced? Learned this shit fucking around in go-karts.
what NOT to do on your first track day
>Bring a car with a massive amount of camber on the rear
>shiny 22 inch set of wheels
>5 mm ride heights
I remember first starting out Drag Racing. 1320 day’s, (that’s 1/4 mile racing for you younger peeps) I would always let out of the gas waaaayyy before the finishing line. Then I figured it out. One time at Friday Night Drags, I was not doing well. Could not get traction. I spun and was so pissed I threw my hands up inside car. Even in the dark the starter saw it. Next time to the line I got a brief ear full about it. Don’t do that shit.
This is just a video called Driving Techniques.
Advanced Driving Techniques would be navigating a tight terrain whilst being shot at.
dont treat the road ralley like a forza lobby and crash into everyone and attempt to launch your car
video starts with TRYING to die well yeah, that’s gonna be hard
Lol, your first drag race on a strip… You should watch a couple of runs so you can get an idea of the timing system which is the most important… Nothing will kill a time if you arent ready for the green or not expecting it.
“Ready to rock and roll? I AM!!” I immediately thought of Pathfinders voice from Apex Legends.
That’s a sick BMW in the back
If you know the name tell me so I can change this lol
Thanks Tim. I love all the information you give to us. Trust is me is being appreciated.
he’s just re-telling his first experience of how he fucked up at a drag strip.
Nothing looks stupider than acting like you know! Don’t be afraid to ask! (There are….*mostly* no stupid questions…no no blinker fluid
Or u can not give a shit about what people think bout you? They ain’t paying your bills? Some people just trying to have fun, why judge beginners?
Eh, you need to try a marshmallow concrete mixer from culver’s y’know
Oh god i fucked up my first autocross so bad. Completely dnf first two runs haha.
Now if only the Gumball Rally is something like a 3000 mile closed road rally (think something the 50s Carrera Panamericana) that would be insane.
go really fast and slam it into R its race mode. seriously though slam it in as hard as you can and watch the magic happen
I did a rally from one dragstrip to another for a 3 day weekend. So much fun!
Racing to go racing… the best!
The heat also causes the oil in the Tarmac to rise to the surface.
If you shit don’t work leave it home! Wise wise words.. we should make it into a t shirt
For anyone wondering, yes you feel cooler when you and Alex are both wearing the clutch wheel giveaway shirt. Buy one. Shameless sales plug. See ya at Automotion!
Just got a Fitment Industries commercial while watching Fi videos. Fitmentception
Dude, thank you so much! That really caught me by surprise at the end xD. Really glad you liked it:) like your design here
Piece of advice for first timers at auto cross and road courses, you more than likely, will be the slowest car there. Just get accustomed to this new kind of driving and enjoy yourself
Peter Isler is of course right at the 12 minute point about the effect of currents.
A simple explanation of this current’s effect is that from the time they hit the current it effectively pushes the apparent wind to the left which gives the boat on the left an upwind position on the course. That is all since everything else on the course is the same for each boat. Sail an IOM and you will be able to observe this simple fact if currents are present.
Alex you looks different without glasses just like a normal people
Why pay an entry fee? They can’t stop you from following them
I’ve been racing for a while now in the no electronics class mostly 1/8th mile it’s a Mustang with a SBC runs 6.50’s.. my biggest thing is getting the car to react I’ll get 2 or 3 0.030 lights or better in a row then just cannot keep consistent because off of a sudden I’ll get a 0.090 or whatever. there stock brakes but I don’t want to blame the brakes it’s all about keeping calm as the slower car leaves beside me. your info is good stuff and any extra info you have would be highly appreciated. these races I’m talking about are the finals I’ve never won because it seems that nerves catch up in the semi finals. thanks
Turning in shallower by just a hair allows to gradually load the suspension and also cuts a bit from the traveled distance, while carrying a bit more speed in. Arguably there is some trade off on the exit, but from what I understand this is one of Montoya’s techniques. I’ve tried this in go karts and a big car and kind of makes sense.
Schumacher also said IIRC he, at least on the Bennetton, slowed the car down, turned it like a tank, and then accelerated out. These are details that could be discussed in these videos.
I thought they would discuss how in mid ohio’s carrousel, nobody wastes time opening wide for it but just let the car go in shallow big time on entry.
mute this and listen to Alabama “Words at Twenty Paces,” you can thank me later
Go fast
Fuck the cops, it’s a race, they will get over it eventually
Did anyone else flinch when that mustangs reverse lights came on
Sure wish stuff like this happened in Kentucky. If anyone knows of any let me know
hey there is a problem i tried to get the shirt but it wont let me pick a size can you guys fix that sweet video too
Ah more tip
Don’t bring your FIAT.
Or you will end up on the side of the road waiting for tow truck.
Lol jk
1:48 he reminds me of the witch from Narnia! Not being mean but jsut saying
You will also be responsible for the clean up if you oil down the track.
This sounds like such a great time, ofcourse I’d like to do this once my focus is stage 3 with coilovers and some nice rims just for some extra style points. Thank you for this video it really got me excited to participate in my first rally!
Just got that T Shirt in the mail today!
I say this because I really want them wheels. But anyway..
Thanks! I couldn’t see the white BMW in the thumbnail without the red circle and arrow!! Ffs
Yea that i have to go to one not from my country (3-5 hours to end the rally) but one that is in europe
Ola!!
It all comes down to how much money you have. The more money you have?? The more time in the saddle. No money?? No saddle…
JD/82nd
I will attend Orphan Run 3 next month which is a charity drive in Texas. It is my first rally to attend.
i swear i knew most of these techniques, i’m a big fan of speed and racing and mechanic since i was a child i never had an opportunity to be on a race track, if i did you will see me on the top of lap records
Yo to ralliroad you need a car that cost more than a corolla. I dont have that puss of a car but LoL I wish to roadralli but I live in 180 miles island
I care about winning too! that’s why I’m always wearing a diaper when I race! if ur not then that’s too bad 4 u loser haha
I legit started having a panic attack hearing him describe this
If you turn on subtitles, it says hitman industries at the beginning
For the situation described at 13:00 Assuming north at the top.
Imagine the true wind speed dropped to zero, there would be wind from 270 at 2kts because of the current moving the boat through still air. With the true wind blowing 000 at 20kts, plus the 2kts “current induced” wind, the effect is a shift 6 degrees to the left favoring the boat on the left. I hope this helps.
Alex got everything on point. I took my sti to a pocono track day for the first time last August, it was scary going for the first time but as the day went on i got more comfortable and the instructor said i killed it for my first time with taking to correct lines and braking at the right times. Made me feel really good
Anyone remember that need for speed game that was based on a road rally?
My first year in karting was spent solely on finding the right feel of the racing line and then applying to race situations. Once you find the feel of the line, you don’t necessarily need the mechanically fastest car to be the fastest car on the circuit.
When u thought it was an actual rally in the thumbnail ND was gonna say no excessive drifting because that’s loosing time and u can Austin powers ur e30
advanced? I learn that shit in GTA V. Midnight racing with retards who can barely sticks to his lane.
put a fast idle solenoid to bring up your rpm to where you launch to avoid jockeying the throttle
2:37, um thats jean girrard.
Go watch talladega nights if you havent.
He said that it has been to cold to take his car out, here in the Phoenix area we have to wait until winter because the summer is to damn hot to run them. I have an SRT Challenger and that big Hemi runs hot, so I only take it out when its cool in winter. Like a cool 75 to 80 in January cool lol. Sorry, I didn’t mean to poke fun of anyone’s situation lol.
Have you guys talk about what good brands to get for brakes performances?
I sail in a river where current is huge.. What is calculated here is the effect of wind alone. But the inner boat will sail in adverse current less, hence a shorter course. I don’t see how the outter boat would be favored?
Nice video doing the same thing the same way is great! As long as you don’t polishing bad habits. It’s been 1985 since I’ve drove. I had to study manual on the new program shifters…ha ha ha! Dual stage3 NOS and that weird box with the screen. The first few passes will be fun to laugh at by others. I’ll be laughing as long as I stay in the lane. First guess my seat time will be to Kroger minus the parachute. Will tech guys throw me out because of my handicap tag. I have approved cage, etc. Yes I said handicap tag..ha ha ha! I’m 66 and just can’t stand very long without pain. But very happy in these new racing seats. Should I take tag off the car. 1017 was the best number on the Dyno rear wheel. I just like to do a couple gruuuu-races with friends before we all end up in the old folk home!
I tracked my modified 300c (racetrack) and surprised everyone. Best thing I did was to pay for a lesson with the track expert. I had so much more fun after.
I don’t think that’s really should be called a rally though… But since you go around the place, yeah, it’s a rally. For showing off and things like that. Winning is just an extra; you also have real friends with that.
But do I have to have livery on the car? I want to rally with my everyday car because I love driving, but I don’t want to over adorn it.
It’s always a big ass wake up call when you’re in your 20’s and attempt to do a cart-wheel. REALLY makes you feel old lmao.
What road rallies you reccomend around here? I live an hour west of you guys
Don’t watch this if you actually want to know what to do on your first track day.
Re: The situation at 13:00 minutes where the wind is from the North and the current from the East (moving right to left). Based on my vector addition, the resultant is a shift to the RIGHT not the left. Based on my rationale, both boats get a lift. However, the boat from the pin end is sailing into the current for a longer distance than the boat that starts at the Committee boat end. To me, this means that the boat on the committee boat end has a huge advantage. If the boat that starts on the committee boat end immediately goes on port tack after the start, and take advantage of the lack of current, then tacks on the lay line. When it gets to the gulf stream, the boat starting on the Committee boat end will use the current to it’s advantage. The current will then bring the boat down to the pin. The boat on the pin end would be fighting the current in the gulf stream for the entire second half of the first leg. What am I missing? Please explain why I’m wrong.
i’m surprised about how basic their vocabulary is when describing corners.
none of them say “increasing radius corner” to describe one, for instance. they just give examples.
yeah, pretty much as i expected, the real deal is still more about feeling than theoretical knowledge.
6:23 that’s something missing from some racing games that really cripple fine tunning. you have to drive consistently on every other corner of the sector if you want to know if approaching a corner one or other way is faster. real-time on-demand feedback is something really helpful.
What NOT to do at your first track day: don’t worry about what other people think.
Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior and he is the son of God believe in Jesus Christ and have eternal life.
1.Dont be stupid
2. Dont vape or smoke
3. Don’t launch in reverse
4. Don’t text and drive
And 5. Don’t be a mustang who destroys crowds…
u know everybody watching this is gonna be running 100 mph on the freeway
The vector calc at 13:00 is backward. Imagine a 10 kt current (we have them here in WA) -no way to sail against that.
The explanation and advice given between 9:42 and 13:37 is TOTALLY WRONG. Neither end of the line is favoured. The only decision to make is how to cross the band of current. You should choose which tack you need to be on and where on the interface between static water and flowing water you want to be. In the scenario described you would want to be on a port tack at wherever the lay line happens to cross the interface (it doesn’t matter that the lay lines will have a shallow corner at that point). Now, in order to get to that point of crossing the interface on port tack, it really does not matter which end of the line you start; neither end is favoured.
I’ve got three words: Wheelspin is a bitch. When you’re coming out of a slow corner then you really need to avoid hitting the throttle too soon, otherwise you get wheelspin, especially with cars that have a lot of torque. And also, cars with a lot of torque don’t like when you drive over the kerbs, it makes them very unstable, usually you need to release the gas pedal for a split second after you’ve driven over the kerb and then ease the throttle back on.
Track day in title, drag strips and driving around car parks in the video. Good video and pointers for first track-day drivers, but boy do you Americans have a weird idea about what ‘track driving’ is lol.
i like how the porsche guy gets all technical, always how it is.
0:14 so there’s klutch and there’s throttle where the heck is break
This will help my braking and cornering in competitive racing games thanks for the info.
Fitment do you have rims and tires coupon codes or no…and do you believe i should mod a nissan altima s ’04?
The don’t go as fast as possible is so true. First time I tracked my bike I was too jumpy on the throttle and 12 o’clocked my bike right off the line. I managed to control it, rode it through to the end of the track and safely made it out without crashing or getting hurt. That was also the first wheelie I had ever done. So seriously people. Do take it easy. Use the first few runs to figure out the best launch rpm for you and your whip, be it car, bike, truck, whatever it is. Especially if you don’t have a launch control installed yet, but you want to get it done, or you do, but it’s not fine tuned. Yes it’s a race, but it’s also the safest place to learn and tune yourself and your ride.
Road rallies have made up some of the most fun I’ve had in any car. Seeing new areas, meeting new people, and beating that dude in the green lambo while you’re in a chop top volvo.
People go to the track to increase there skills not to show “spectators” how you drive lmfaoo yall are talking about the STRIP there is a huge difference
I’m a little confused about the argument being made at 8:30. It seems to me that the 15 deg. wind shift being discussed on the upper half of the course is equivalent to a new direction for the ladder rungs. How can it matter how smart the right hand boat is? Doesn’t the ‘fewest number of ladder rungs to cross’ path include the pin end?
These are not advanced techniques, these drivers are explaining the basics. Drivers are often the worst people to ask because they’re not teachers, they’re drivers.
Consider these basic ideas: fast lap times are created by efficient corner exits, and especially on corners leading to long straights. This makes complete sense. So, what should a line look like? Determine the best corner exit point that allows you to achieve the highest speeds on the exit and down the straight, and build the line backwards from there. Go fast in fast sections, go slow in slow sections. In a race, keeping the guy behind you is all you need to do in a slow section. So, why try to go fast in a slow section?
In other words, your braking point, corner entry point, speed, and apex are all determined by where you want to be at corner exit. By corner exit we mean the spot where the car is pointed in the right direction that allows you to reach full throttle.
This is summarized by the “slow in, fast out” mantra of the car world. It’s no different in the motorcycling world. Determine the exit point and work backwards. It’s how the best drivers do it. It’s how MotoGP riders do it.
For the NOR-gate, if you use a non-stackable item the signal strength will increase to 3.
whats the wheel immediately left of Alex’s head? anyone know?
What a steaming pile of crap, which teaches absolutely nothing to any driver. No discussion about the Late Apex, or why it is good, or how to set up a car on the straight, prior to the corner. No talk about Hinting. No talk about managing weight. No talk about how to find the racing line. No discussion even about what the racing line even IS.
Total waste of nearly 8 minutes.
Did anyone else flinch when that mustangs reverse lights came on
Don’t run your AC while you’re waiting in line to go down the strip, my local track has to constantly remind drivers of that during the summer smh
What is the fastest line? Great vid…:D #fastestline #safeisfast #roadrace #racecircuit
Hey.., Alex talk about canyonruns what to & not to…so you wanna go on a canyonrun..
Don’t fall into a ditch like one of those Evo owners. I always gotta pull em out in my WRX
Oddly enough I learned alot about corners from Gran Turismo 1 & 2. You had to do license challenges to be able to race the faster races.
I see, being smart it is not needed in racing competition… And we talk about the soccer players…
They want to sell some driving course or what? The whole video sounds like spam.
I love when this stuff backs up what you already believed. Makes sense to me
Alex sound like goofy from Mickey mouse when he did that cartwheel…
You Forgot To Mention: Recording The Whole Thing And Make A Movie/Video/Documentary About It
Mischief 3000
Its easier to be competitive on a road course or autocross course. Then the drag strip. Make your car reilable first and get good tires please. Make every 1st rum slow and steady
I have been racing thirty years and never had any formal training on this. Thankyou for the info.
THIS!!!
I liked this one so much. It’s informational but in the way of feelings and stuff like that. Nobody mentions those. Thank you!
Isn’t that Jean Gerard from Talladega Nights The ballad of Ricky Bobby.
But what if I go to a track an don’t feel any social pressure to “perform,” I just wanna rip around in my shitty car in a way I normally can’t? I don’t care abou “looking dumb” I do what sounds most fun to me. if I didn’t want to 2 minutes ago but peoplestart screaming at e to do it, I probably will if it sounds more interesting than what I was originally planning on doing. Otherwise NOTHING will sway me.
i tried using the kerb technique and i smashed my rims road rash everywhere
I will learn these techniques and drive like there is no tomorrow!
My first time at the strip I didn’t pull up far enough to stage, & the old guy in the middle got mad
Lol @ 60 seconds total on a drag strip being a ‘track day’.
I actually thought this was about track days. Never mind.
lmao I got excited for this video, then as it progressed I realized that i sort of already did what your talking about at a racelegal drag event. Even my slow ass got scared that I was gonna hurt my car. launching my daily on the strip maybe wasn’t the smartest idea lol clutch was burnt af for a few days haha
Yeah, awesome video, right up to the point where it no longer played any sound whatsoever!
5:24min xD outta outta outta
Just kidding. I Love this channel…
I havent found any road rallys in TN. Any ideas on where to join one?
Looks like that Shelby hasn’t well prepared for the drag race! Damn !
can’t believe nobody uses transits of the people there!! i feel naked without a transit!!
I know your not suppose to drink i usually down a beer take the edge off
It’s kind of common sense. I smoke fools all the time in GTA using this tactic.
what is the best way to find events nearby? facebook groups, websites, etc… or something else entirely?
Remember: Breaking the law is illegal. And have fun out there.
Perfectly timed sand dropping from the roof would be even more accurate and reliable a entity can move through a block if it is in it, so you could have the sand dropping just as the horse moves into the area. This would be able to detect differences of any more than 2 gt, while yours can not detect differences of 6 gt or less. Good job nonetheless.
