Use the abdominal brace to prepare the abs for the work. Do this by tightening the abdominal muscles without drawing or sucking in. Think of preparing for a punch in the stomach. To increase the workout intensity, either add weights to the exercises or utilize an incline bench.Start on your back.
Bend your knees and plant your feet on the floor at hip width. Place your hands at your sides, palms Tighten your core and glutes. Raise your hips until your knees are in line with your shoulders.
Hold for 10–30 seconds.Both front and back squats force your abs and spinal erectors to work overtime to maintain a neutral, upright position. If both were not firing at high rates, you’d fold under the weight or drop in a split second. Oh, and forget what you heard about standing on a BOSU ball to increase the work of your stabilizers.Abdominal exercises, from simple to killer, to help you flatten your belly, burn fat, and strengthen your core.

Lay on your back with knees bent in crunch position. Place your hands flat on the ground by your side and lift your pelvis, bringing your knees up toward your face, then back down again. Engage your lower ab muscles to do the work, not your back. Repeat for a few sets of 12-20 reps.

Should I do the core exercises before or after the abs exercises?

I would still do these exercises if you have a layer of fat on your core. Stick to a clean diet. Meanwhile doing these exercises and your abs will pop eventually

Planks put unnecessary pressure on your lower back, so I don’t do them anymore. Most “ab” workouts are terrible for your lower back!

As someone with an exercise degree I approve of thisgood and CONSISTENT level of challenge unlike other youtubers who put seriously easy exercises randomly amongst hard ones with seemingly no reason.
Its very good but you re going waaay too fast, I barely have time to change position and get the dumbbell and switch! xD so a little slower between the excercises so can keep up other wise very good

Another common error of the rollout is not having a hollow body, if you don’t have a hollow body your lower back will tense to make up for your weak abdominals, and you will cramp so badly. Happened when I first started training and took really conscious effort to crunch/hollow during the entire rollout.

@JC, I took your dumbbells over head walk and tried it on the treadmill, holy moly, when the angle starting rising it was much harder and ignited the burn on my core. I went up to 10° incline the hardest part was keeping my back straight and core tight while keeping my form with dumbbell.
When I couldn’t keep my hands raised I lowered them to my side while still walking on treadmill and then repeat after 3min break.

@Jeremy Ethier in Jeff Nippard’s video he suggests arching back to ensure you don’t use hip flexors in the cable crunch and to maximize flexing of abs. in your video you suggested keeping back flat for rope crunch. Im not sure which is correct form

This is so great! I don’t know if this is just because I’m quite weak or I have the wrong technique lmao but I can’t seem to keep my back flat on the floor during the leg raises (while holding up the dumbbell). Is there a way to remedy this?

Each to his own, but just so everyone knowsit is very much possible to have a fully developed and “popping” six pack without ever doing weighted exercises.

Do you have a shoulder injury in your left arm?
If you can do an episode with a doctor to discuss how to know if there problem in shoulder or traps because many time I feel cracks and pain,but I do not know when it is major and when to stop to see a doctor.
Also, why would you want to/need bodyweight exercises on top of the weighted ones?

I know sit ups aren’t supposed to be great for the spine (and Russian twists even worse), but can someone explain why the dumbbell ab roll-up doesn’t have the same damaging effect?
The ab wheel excerise whas showed incorrectly, if done correctly you should be squeezinf your buttcheeks together through the whol excercise, only moving your shoulders in full movement

I’m a woman and I can do the captain chair leg raises but the hanging ones are so hard!!! As soon as I start hanging I can only lift my legs if they’re bent but I can’t lift them straight. I feel so weak.:(

I get cramps every time I do ab exercises usually on the first or second set. Because of the pain, I am not unable to do ab exercise. I could not find a remedy for it. What are your thoughts or suggestions on it based on your expertise?
plank is just tooooo boring.for abs workout I prefer moving and counting as a distraction.commando plank is my favorite among plank variation. it was the first exercise that made my upper abs sore next day, what I’ve never felt with doing crunch variations

I split my abs into 2 workouts…
1 Wieghted Abs Exercises
2 Circuit Bodyweight Exercises
I train 5 days a week so I can hit my abs 2-3 times per week(Sunday -Bodyweight exercises, Wednesday Weighted Exercises, Saturday Bodyweight Exercises…..) Do you recommend this split or just to stay with the weighted exercises 2-3 times a week? @Jeremy Ethier

I like to eat too much. Would cardio in Zumba 3x a week, kickbox cardio 2x a week, then incorporating weights ab training help with losing some of that fat. Dieting just doesnt work for me. I’m not the worst eatter I do like to eats salads but I like a burger once a week or every other week. I also like eatting fried chicken and bacon once a week. For measurement I’m 165lbs 5’11”, my butt is fine and my thighs are fine it’s just my stomach is a little too big for my size. All the weigh seems to go only to my stomach

If you were to round your upper back at 3:15, you would feel your abs more because your sternum will get closer to your hips, meaning the contraction will be stronger.

Im in lockdown in a in a small medical shared room during extreme covid distance measures. I happen to have a pair of small dumbbells. I have a bed. I have a space about 2ft by 5ft to walk in. I’m not getting NEAR the dirty floor. (‘FLOOR IS LAVA!” COVID Lava! LOL) SO I need standing (or bed) exercises. The only one of these I can use is the raised dumbbell walk. That looks like a great one!
I’ve been doing these exercises for at least 6 months now having switched from Brian’s other regime for “over 40 upper body strength”. I love it and see results. I use a wheel with axel instead of two dumbbells for the last one. I think males in my family are prone to tennis elbow and the twist with a punch exercise in the last group caused it to flare up. (I think) Then on second time around I didn’t twist the arm but pain still came on hours later in the evening. Might skip that one till it’s totally gone. But I think they’re great in spite of my wife worrying about me doing them. Finally seeing that cottage cheese around my pecs dissolving. I just turned 61. (I just learned the unicycle during this lockdown, too!)

Can I do this workout when I still have 27 percent body fat and still some fat around my tummy and waist. Or should I first burn fat through cardio and weights to bring body fat down to 20 percent and do these to get more definition
Jeremy I struggle with small spinal pain while doing russian twists since the weights I using are quiet heavy (20 kg plate many reps). What’s more during woodchopers my elbows pain but when I bent them and pick up more weight I don’t fell my abs. What can I change there?

The competing forces on the LLPT plank makes it look like your core is gonna explode. I’ll check back in if I don’t detonate into a shower of gore. 😉
The only one exercise I am gonna pick is the one, walking with a pair of dumbells overhead lifted. That’s luckily he said work for whole body and that’s the one that I am capable doing or at least trying.

i know this is a year old but thankqqqq, finally a workout routine that gets me all sore! been doing chloe tings ab workouts and they don’t get me sore anymore:( one of the ways i know i’m progressing is if i’m sore and this one finally did it! feels good

Is there any reason pertinent to the exercise that you have one leg’s heel on the bench for the pull over?
I do a modification of the plank where I rest the elbows on a foam roller. When doing regular plank I feel that I can use my shoulders to offload the core. Of course I could just… not do that, but using the roller eliminates that possibility altogether so it’s one less cue to think about, and I feel it makes the exercise more consistent.

Cable wood choppers didn’t work for me. I mean I didn’t feel any burn sensation at all. I didn’t even feel that I’m working out my Abs. Other three weighted abs exercises are good though
The form on the kneeling cable crunch is incorrect. Since you’re keeping your spine straight as you go down you’re working your hip flexors to a high degree. In order to target the abdominals you should allow your spine to flex as you go down (a primary function of the abdominals) instead of keeping it straight. This is also how Arnold advocated this exercise

Because if I look at your ab routine recommendation and considering I still want to do an upper/lower body workout before it seems like a lot of training for one session to me. How did you do that? You really split each muscle group for a different day?
