I was a coca cola drinker. I stopped cold turkey and went straight to club soda. Now I have the occasional coca cola when I can’t do better but my first choice would be club soda or sparkling water

I easily get hot when I’m outside, even when it is cold like below zero. I stopped drinking soda for health reasons a couple of month ago since april. I feel less hot when I’m outside, I don’t get sweaty as usual. I lost approximately 6.7 pund (3kg) and will hopefully lose more.
My stomach felt weird in the beginning and I got more tired. It has even out by now.

I always thought diet soda is dumb. Sugar is a part of soda. So…how can there be a “diet” soda? To my logic, it always seemed stupid. I am glad more people are being informed about the effects of drinking too much diet soda, other drinks and food that is harmful to the body IF consumed a lot.
Maybe it’s cuz I’m thirsty but carbonated lemon/lime sounds so good right now (she says at 12am lol)
I do occasionally have a Cola when at the cinema or if I order a burger, but it’s maybe once every two to three weeks. There is however a soda I really like that can be found occasionally here in Ireland that has about 160 calories per bottle. The sugar content is not as high as Cola, but it definitely is something I only should treat myself with every couple of days or so. My problem is chocolate more so than sodas. I’m trying to focus on a high quality chocolate that isn’t as addictive. One or two pieces usually satiates the craving, whilst I could quite easily eat 1000 calories worth of dairy milk chocolate or some other mass produced milk chocolate in one sitting.
to me it was pretty easy to quit, i went with no problem directly to carbonated water, i drink at least 3l a day.

I was a diet soda addict few years ago and it was SO hard giving it up until i gained so much weight around my waist and belly which i never used to have before! that was my cue! i started by just reducing my daily dose and going for water and smoothies till i completely quit:)
i also found out that when i was eating greasy unhealthy food i’d crave diet soda after.. i changed it all:)
now i’m following clean eating plans most of the time and my waist line is almost back to normal and my health is just so much better!:)
as a Russian thats my opinion. Don’t drink coke. Drink vodka. Vodka is healthier than coke. You can search it. And this is why we are not fucking fat gamburger and we are tough!
I guess I just don’t get the appeal of diet sodas. They’ve always tasted pretty gross to me, especially the ones with splenda.

I was a huge diet soda addict! I would drink it 4 days a week and I couldn’t live without it. But I decided to stop with it, knowing how addicting and bad it is for me. Soda means carbonated water, not soft drinks. Maybe people in the US drank too much of the latter to understand the difference.

For me, if I drink an excessive amount of water in a daily basis, or having such as 3-4 bottles of water in one sitting, it’ll reduce craving, and everytime I’d get one I’d down water instead. I’d assume this is due to it cleaning out all the technical stuff causing the craving, usually after a week of no soda once I drink it again itll taste horrible if I drank nothing but water throughout that week

I decided to stop drinking soda almost a week now. It was wreaking havoc on my body and energy. I already have more energy.
I use to be hooked on diet coke. I think it was the caffeine in it since I don’t drink coffee whenever I would go a day without soda I would get a headache. After drinking soda almost every day of my 20s I quit cold turkey about a year ago. I found that drinking ice cold water was just as refreshing and now I pretty much only drink water.

I decided to stop, or avoid, other drinks than water. Why? Because I’m afraid of developing diabete or obesity. Like, really afraid. Because in general I already love sugar, I love desserts. Just curious could these numbers be a bit misrepresented? I say this because most people (at least that I know) only drink diet pops because they’re overweight or unhealthy. That being said, is it probable that these people were already at a high risk level for the problems you have mentioned well before they started drinking diet pop?

There a sources to weight loss. Diet Coke isn’t healthy, yeah, but you can always go to the gym. a lot of foods contain ingredients that lead to weight gain. It’s not just soda. #addictofdietcoke4L
Actually this is somewhat false. There are numerous long term studies that show long term diet soda drinkers tend to have higher risks for heart attack or stroke and they tend to be larger. Now there is nothing in diet soda that seem to suggest it would cause any of these problems. So it may be food choices but it’s far better to simply drink water or natural tea or coffee vs drinking artificial soda.
Love the tips, however my problem is I am trying to add Water to my routine but I always go back to Tea. Do you have any tips for that?
Too much of anything is bad for you. Sure soda provides no real benefits to health, but it’s a nice treat to have every once in a while.:P Only drinking water is just crazy to me. No alcohol, juice, tea, sparkling water, soda? Come on, people, live a little. At least drink some mineral water or sparkling water on some days. Get that bubbly goodness in you.

He claims that he’s a doctor or a professor I’m not ether one of those but what I do know what he dose not know is yes for some people not all who live off of diet soda is gonna have a stroke or a heart attack. What he didn’t mention as a doctor that it’s really all have to do with caffeine in the soda now every one knows that too much caffeine may kill some people plus it depends on your health condition. And as for diet soda it’s really good for diabetics but don’t believe diet soda is gonna make you more hungry it’s all in the mind cause after you finish a meal and wash it down with a diet soda.Once your full and control your mind for not having any other cravings you’ll be fine.

Dani, I completely agree with baby steps. When my husband and I first met (i was a dietetic student), he was drinking several servings of regular soda and was about 70 lbs overweight. I took a baby steps with him, switching to diet soda, reducing soda, increasing water, etc. Within a couple of years, he was 70 lbs lighter.

I also used to be addicted to diet soda. I got a water bottle dispenser and had high quality water delivered to my house. I figured it was probably cheaper than all the soda I was drinking and it was good tasting. That worked for me.
I’m sooooo happy to say I am not much of a soda drinker…I have a soda every blue moon. I like what you said Dani boutique not drinking calories and that’s one of the reasons I stay away for the most part from sodas. Lately to get the fizzle I love I’ve been drinking sparkling water with lemon flavor or mandarin orange flavor.

I am actuaIly quite lean and work out regularly but I just realised I have a problem when I got the urge to drop a harribo giant strawb in my glass of coca cola and drank the whole thing and kept refilling the glass with coke. Then I ate the strawbs. When she mentioned a relation to the events in your life, it made sense as I have been very stressed lately, and generally try to ignore the toll it takes on my mental health. I stopped drinking soda because of sugars after four months I’ve lost 40 pounds I was feeling great and figured I would have a Pepsi max because I wanted to treat myself to a soda without the sugar well after having three of those cans over a three day period,, I started having extremely bad heart palpitations and ended up in the hospital! It is honestly the best thing anyone can do. Over the past 18 months I have lost 12kg and that was with very little excersise.

I am not addicted myself but I used to drink some and my mom couldn’t keep away from it. She stopped completely and even though her health is still not 100% she feels a lot better and her digestion improved tremendously.

Every consumable on earth is good unless you hate your father in which case you’re an addict.
Addictions start at home. Don’t have Soda at home, you’ll only create an easy access to grab a can and desire more. Only drink 1 can when you go outside to build it off. It will be much easier to get rid of the addiction when you need to get outside and walk/drive all the way to the Supermarket to get it.

Awesome tips! I was addicted to diet soda about 5 years ago, but now I never crave them and haven’t had one since. Every now and then I’ll buy Kevita (like you suggested) which gives me that delicious, sweet, and tingly carbonation flavor. I like your suggestion for the flavor seltzers!

On the bright side, you can’t store fat from energy consumed while drinking diet soda, if you don’t eat anything while drinking it.

That is exactly what I did and now I drink seltzer. Baby steps is key and gradually cutting back the fruit juice until it was just seltzer water. The kroger flavored brands are all pretty good.:)

I used to drink a lot of diet pop and for my resolution for New Years 2015 I decided to give up all carbonated drinks. I have been pop-free for over a year and it has made a whopping difference in my lifestyle. Probably the hardest thing about giving it up was just when I went out with my friends (which is not very often). A lot of mixed drinks at the bar use pop or soda waters in them so now I’m more restricted, but I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily a bad thing in the end 😉 If you’re thinking about giving it up, I’d definitely recommend it. At first I missed my can of diet coke after work but now I haven’t thought about it for months.

I don’t drink a lot of fizzy drinks but used to have sugar free cordial now and again.
After reading and seeing all the numerous ‘dangers’ of sugar free cordial and fizzy drinks I decided to have full sugar coke now and then and full sugar OASIS sometimes.
Guess what? I’ve dropped 2 pounds in weight and BMI lowered too.
As long as it’s not in excess…I would say have normal sugared drinks… but only sporadically!

It is a good one off guide for learning how to stop drinking without the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.
My body goes into major rebellion with artificial sugars, so DIET soda has never been a problem. Mainlining caffeine to work short handed for weeks on end was another problem. I have introduced the club soda and juice idea to mothers with caffeine and sugar sensitive kids so the kids don’t feel deprived when their friends come over. Some of the other kids became converts after tasting the cool new flavors. I do admit, at the end of a long, rough work day, nothing still is more satisfying and comforting than my can of Coke with generous splash of lemon. Yes, I’m a heathen.

I think the best way to get people to stop drinking diet pop, yes, I’m from the Midwest, and that’s what we call it, is to have people read the ingredients on the label, and then look up what some of that stuff can potentially do to you. I’ve nearly given up pop, but once a month, I have a craving that nothing else will satisfy, but I’ll get that from the gas station’s dispenser which is watered down so I don’t feel too guilty. Another thing you could to is add the seltzer water to you own, homemade juice, so you know you’re having something more healthy than the store bought stuff.
Doctor, I am going to chime in because there is very little definitive evidence against diet soda and I know have all the proof I need. I have been struggling with weight loss for several years despite knowing the power of a ketogenic diet.
Fed up in 2019, I began the year on a strict low-carb diet and intermittent fasting. Still, even at 16/8, the results were garbage compared to what most people report on such a diet. Pretty soon I started OMAD and saw almost no results.
One thing I should note: I started each day with 1 or 2 cans of Monster Zero, a non-caloric energy drink sweetened with stevia and sucralose. I should also note that I sweetened my black coffee with stevia (No other sweeteners like dextrose) I also would enjoy Coke Zero or Pepsi Max throughout the day. My mood and hunger would fluctuate throughout the day.
In September, I decided to cut out ALL sweeteners. Lei and behold: I began to lose weight and felt great on my intermittent fasting low-carb diet. And quickly! To this day, very few sources claim diet soda hinders weight-loss. Most articles propose the idea but no one has come along with actual proof until now. I am the living proof and it’s all the proof I need.
Likewise, a tumor on my wrist (Which I thought was a bone spur but turned out to be a ‘bible cyst’) disappeared completely after two months. Another growth on my shoulder has diminished greatly and looks like it should also be gone in time.
People hate on me for speaking out against their beloved sweeteners but I intend to spread the truth. I am happy to answer any questions.
I’ve never been a pop junkie, only because I find the carbonation upsets my stomach. Instead, I drink coffee with LOTS of sugar and milk. So that is my downside. I’m going to buy Truvia to put in coffee instead of sugar, because my trainer told me that in her experience, that one is the closest stevia version of sugar she has found. So right now that is my challenge. I don’t think I will ever give up sweet and creamy coffee, because I just simply really like it. So going black probably won’t happen for me. But I figure if I can drink it mostly with stevia, and then have a really yummy Tim Horton’s coffee once a week on a Friday or something, then that will be a good compromise.

But it is becoming more and more clear how bad of a food choice diet soda is. I found these suggestions to be very helpful. I believe I will try several of them. My husband is a diabetic and I’m hopeful I can also get him on board.

I’ve always been a skinny girl and used to take advantage of that. I used to drink like 2 packs of soda A DAY. Coke, root beer etc. any soda it didn’t matter as long as it was soda and sugary. We very seldom drink a whole can of soda with a meal,
so we both
stopped drinking soda from 12 oz (355 ML) cans and now drink
16.9 oz (500 ml) bottles of soda so we can put the twist caps back on,
and put half back in the fridge so we can finish the soda the next day.
Reusing the twist caps keeps a bottle of soda from going “flat”.
I tend to drink more instant coffee (with milk & no sugar)
and fruit juice to further reduce my consumption of sugar.

Read the paper be around people. I have tried a number of times but can’t seem to do it. I have tried seltzer thinking I was wanting the fizz but I didn’t like the taste. I try to drink water but end up having a diet coke. Of course I know it isn’t good for you but I can’t seem to find the right drink to replace it with.

I find that I need a little caffeine pick me up in the afternoons that I work (nurse; those 12 hour shifts). I also find myself reaching for the diet soda with certain foods. I don’t think I consume it excessively, therefore I don’t stress about quitting all together. I do love sparkling water and unsweetened ice tea. I used to drink about 60oz a day of dr. pepper. I switched to sparkling water first, then to plain water. That was 4 years ago. Now, I occasionally drink green iced tea.
I actually quit freely. I just feel like soda is so bad. I have been drinking water, and tea thats the only two things I drink. I do drink a flavored water without cancer stuff in it but only a bottle a day just to get that flavor in that I love.

I’d quit about 10 years ago when articles started to come out about the artificial sweeteners that are/were used in diet sodas, and how bad it is for our health. I quit cold turkey and never looked back. I drink still water with lemon juice, or I love plain fruit/herbal teas. I also started to make and drink Kombucha in the past year with my lunch which I enjoy very much.
99% of the people who drink diet sodas are already in bed health. Most are also seriously over weight and all those reasons they have heart problems. If this is you you better long fast and save tour life and fix what’s wrong in your body. I was diabetic, had edema and weighed over 450 lbs. Thanks to Dr. Jason Fung and his books I’m now 190 lbs and no longer diabetic or have edema. I lost 230 in about 9 months.

once I turned diabetic, I knew I had to get off soda (1-3) bottles a day. I was addicted to the bubbles, the sugar. It took about 2 years to totally transition to diet soda. But it never tasted as good or satisfied me, but then REAL sugar was SO sweet I couldn’t go back to regular soda anyways (because it would kill me) and it was too sweet. So I started different diet waters, diet coke with stevia, but i was not losing weight and I was barely controlling my diabetes. I knew the crap in the diet coke was no good to me, I needed to alkanize my diet, get rid of those chemicals and just DEAL with wanting it but denying myself the pleasure. I have since bought selzer water that has no calories that has carbonation and fruit flavors. I take 2 drinks of this straight, then I add -2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. It hides the shocking vinegar flavor within the seltzer, and this has helped me lower my appetite for carbs and lowering my sugar readings. I honestly believe that ‘POP’ contributed 80 percent to my getting diabetes, and if I could take it away, I would have NEVER allowed it brought into the house or around myself and kids. It is poison in my mind. Everytime I see it, my husband and I laugh and say, “you want a little drink of poison”, we laugh, but it sets our minds to ‘stay away from that crap”.
If your trying to loose weight Diet Coke or stuff like sugar free gum is great. As long as your getting active and burning calories. Stuff like Diet Coke is good to satisfy your cravings. It was one of my tricks when I was loosing weight.

I had to say bye bye to diet soda after they began to give me migraines. I drink good spring water from a local spring, with the juice of an orange and a lemon, on ice. 2 quarts to the juice referenced previously. Yum!

Hmm that’s an interesting drink! I used to drink a lot of coke zero but I decided it was making me crave more sugar and it was time to stop. I just stopped cold turkey and chewing on sugar free gum helped me. I also make sugar free low cal jello to help with the cravings. Seemed to work.
It’s been almost a year since I completely gave up all soda. I replaced it with sparkling water/seltzer water. I need the bubbles! I feel so much better. Not just with my digestive system but my muscles and joints also feel better.

Awesome video Dani! I definitely wish I had followed these tips. I used to be a soda addict as well (20+ sodas a week), but with regular soda. Luckily I quit cold turkey 5 years ago, and haven’t had a soda since. I lost about 30 pounds! Unfortunately I suffered headaches and an irritable mood for months, definitely not a good way to quit soda lol. Now I drink the Kroger brand of lemon and lime flavored sparkling water, it’s pretty good.
So you went from artificial sweeteners, to stevia, then back to sugar? Juice has as much sugar, if not more, than soda… this seems like a huge step backwards.

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes so I had to quit all sugars & sweetened drinks..cold turkey. Don’t wait for your bad cravings to affect your health. Try to cut back on your sugar intake. It was easy after the first few days. I don’t crave sugar anymore. Also, I love flavoring my water with Meyer lemon slices. It’s a little sweeter than regular lemons.

Hello I haven’t drank carbonated drinks for about more than a year now and never have I ever tasted alcohol. I can’t really tell any differences but, I’m still continuing to do so just because I hate how it feels like in my throat. So yeah just keep living the way the you want! Life is a one time ticket experience, don’t waste it restricting yourself, just do what you want.

I am happy with plain old seltzer. My favorite is Perrier brand, but it’s becoming costly. So, I am settling for carbonated filtered water. And like everyone else, I flavor it with citrus (mainly lime).

I am not a diet soda addict, but I am a carbonated water addict! lol My favorite drink of all time is carbonated water with a squeeze of lemon or lime. It became rather expensive to “support my addiction” lol, so I purchased a Soda Stream machine at Bed, Bath, & Beyond with the 20% off coupon. I also purchase the refill cartridges there too using the coupons and I save $$$$ and can still enjoy my fizzzzzzzzzzzzz.:)
