You guys make everything so simple! Lovely video, and I definitely learned something new. Thank you!
Ally.. you are just a font of knowledge.. I have been doing total carbs and have been successful but I’m going to try doing net carbs… I’ve hit a plateau so need to mix it up!! I’m going to cook up some more vegs and mix up some sweeter ones.. thankyou as always..your such an inspiration!!! you’re videos always lift me and help to keep me on track... As others have told you…you’re looking amazing.!!! ❤ lots love x
Ally, please explain something to me. Italians are always eating pizza and pasta yet they are slim. Thai folks guzzle down noodles and rice, yet they are soooo slim. Slim and strong. HOW????
Hi. What fat percentage did you use. I believe exactly what you do. I figure I have enough fat already on my body. Thank you
I didn’t get fat eating vegetables. I bet nobody got fat eating too many red peppers or even (God forbid) carrots.
I tried those keto choc bark for 3 net carbs but 150 calories a bar and could not eat less than 3 so could not continue that. You were smart!
I have to say I love your videos as a matter of fact you are one of the few keto gurus that have maintained consistency with the keto protocol. I do total carbs and I include tomatoes, and peppers. I just make it fit into my 24 total carbs. As for artificial sweeteners. I’m addicted to all sugars and it helps keep the craving down
I’m net carbs all the way. I need more fiber than total carbs would give me.
You do a wonderful job as a YouTuber. You can tell your a teacher and it is so refreshingly professional. Just starting keto!
I love ur personality, ur just so adorable! Never stop being u!!!
Keto is the only “diet” I’ve been able to maintain. 3yrs keto and loving it!
The biggest issue I see with net carbs is that people can overdo it with highly processed snack foods that rely on a high fiber + sugar alcohol content to be marketed towards the keto lifestyle. Subtracting fiber from vegetables and sugar alcohols from the occasional keto dessert makes sense when you consider how these foods are broken down by the body, but it’s still important to eat mostly whole, natural foods.
2 questions:
1. Does anyone know of a truly low-carb (1-3 g per 6-8 oz) yogurt? It keeps tripping me up because since I’ve given up all my previous treats, I find that yogurt (full-fat plain) is so tempting (with a dollop of sugar-fee maple syrup) that I can’t resist going overboard and exploding my net carbs through my 20g roof.
2. I CRAVE an apple. If I cut one in half and spread a tablespoon of peanut butter on it (and just eat that half) does the pb help counter the apples high carb content?
Ally; I am new to your channel but have watched a few and love your take on Keto. For me, not eating a ton of fat is essential, I think. I have my macro at 93% for fat. What is yours at and what is a good lesser number for fat? I’m 150 (trying to lose 20 to 30 pounds). For me, it seems to be coming down to the age old less calories. I’m not the type who can eat mountains of delicious Keto recipes dripping in cheeses and butter, apparently anyway! I’ve been experimenting for 3 mos and finally broke down and have an app for macros, etc. I’m not giving up.
Thanks, Ally. Love your videos. Doing keto for 6 mo. plus and using net carbs. But in a bit of a stall last 2 mo. or so. Just watched a Dr. Eric Westman video in which he suggests that anyone with diabetes issues should consider total carbs. So this might be another plus if it helps get over a stall or slow down.
I do 20 net carbs but no more than 30-40 total carbs. Reason I keep my eye on total carbs is because of all the fiber they add to keto treats. I could easily eat 200 total carbs and keep it under 20 net
I completely agree with you, Ally. It’s not the vegetables that are going to make you fat or impede your weight loss…..It’s the calories you overeat, everybody!!! Even after stopping keto while keeping the same caloric deficit I’m STILL LOSING FAT! Cracked the code.
Hi Guys I know this is unrelated to this vid, but I could really use some guidance and I thought you two would be the people to ask. I am 17 and currently in the Mansfield town development squad for football, we have started to go to the gym around 3 or more times a week and I’m wanting to make sure I am making the most out of it. I’m wanting to buy protein shakes to have after gym workouts, what type you I use? and when should I take it? I play football between 7 times a week in case it helps. Love your videos guys thanks!
This is absolutely illogical to me! For example: if I’m eating 1000 calories a day or even less considering that I’m goin’ to eat only 20 grams of carbs. Then, where can I get my calories from? Like for real! If I’m not eating carbs, and not eating 70% of fats
as you say I shouldI won’t be able to hit my calories! Or be stable on my diet. coz you can’t eat that much carbs or protein on Keto to get all the calories you need. So, in my opinion you better say:you have to restrict your calories intake instead of saying “do not eat that much fat”! Coz fats will keep me full for a longer time even If I eat low calories amount. also, they will give me more satisfaction, and help me to go deep into ketoses. So then I’ll be able to stick to Keto for as long as possible. We All know that if your eating low calories amount you’ll gonna lose weight, no matter if your eatin’ carbs or proten or fats. But I’d rather eat fats then anything else to hit my calories. (Sorry for my english)
You are looking great.your hair looks a lot thicker.thank you for information
Hi Ally! I just so enjoy your video’s.
You are so funny…and it’s so nice the way you take the time to explain everything.
Always look forward to your videos. Have A Beautiful Week
Love From Pittsburgh PA. ♥️
Do you consider coconut oil or ghee to be a healthier fat to add to some foods like sauteed veggies. Healthier as in, which is better for cholesterol/triglycerides etc
I’ve been keto for only a few months but your info has been so helpful to helping me figure out keto for me… thanks ( i binge watched all your old videos)
Love the way you present your material! So clear, repeating important points:-) Keto or no? Who cares! IT WORKS! Beautifully! Thanks for doing what you do!
Keto a year and a half. I’ve always done straight carbs, under 20 a day…. I seriously cant believe that you can deduct fiber from total carbs.
I do total carbs because it keeps my net carbs very low and I need that being perimenopausal. I think it’s is more of a preference. Thanks for giving such important information!
Hey Allie……..love your channel and great topic! I wanted to share what I finally decided on for me. I decided that any carbs that come from nature ( I tell myself if God grew it then I can chew it) then I can go with the net carbs because the fiber is in there the way nature intended it. If it comes in a box or a can or any kind of process where the fiber is added by Humans, then I go with total carbs. Now do I always adhere to this rule, well NO, but I try and stick to it because I think it’s harder to get into trouble honoring the natural fibers. Out west where I live we have Franz Bakery that makes a Keto bread. Now it has 12g of carbs and 12g of fiber for a net carb count of “0”, and only 40 cal per slice. Still……it’s in my fridge right now and almost gone, LOL. but I do TRY and adhere to this rule, it works for me! thanks for a great channel and a great sense of humor.
If you do 20 net, how many total carbs is that usually each day? How many calories do you usually consume each day? Thx!!
Very helpful video and look forward to more of these!! GREAT WORK you two #intuttlewetrust
I do net carbs, but i half sugar alcohols instead of the whole amount because they may cause an insulin response
I do total carbs because I overdo if I dont. To each their own.
IIRC, Dr. Westman uses total carbs. He likes to keep it simple and total carbs is less confusing for his patients.
I started keto October 2019 and I have already lost 116 pounds as of this morning. I fill up on protien first, eat fat for satiety, get trace carbs in my diet from veggies and the occasional sweet treat. I do have lax days and not care its generally one or two items(not meals) once a month and it has really helped me. This lifestyle also helps my digestive issues from my EDS. I love this lifestyle!
Im in the UK so I really dont get net v total. Because we dont list anything that way.
Great info. I also do net carbs!!! Thanks for putting the videos below. Can’t wait to watch them!!!
Fiber just bloats me and I don’t like feeling “full”…………so it’s important to recognize we’re not all built the same physically or emotionally. I’m keto, not carnivore because I’m like you, I’m enjoy variety of tastes. You know, some links to some actual research is a great thing and can legitimize your content. It seems all the awesome keto you tubers (you) do a lot of repeating……..but let’s back it up! A personal journey is one thing!
I just leave my food logger to decide for me, so I guess I am going net carbs.:D
Love your hair today I am using the Keto diet for weight loss and you are my best resource
Great video guys! one question if you work out in the mornings i.e. stupid o’clock6am before work, do you cycle carbs up the night before or eat more carbs that day? Thanks!
Watching now! I follow a lazy keto diet and have lost 90lbs so far, i only count net carbs like you! -Emily
I done both for months Only Carbs only Fat and Protein. Carbs are better way better
makes sense
fat for low intensity/no training
carbs pre workout when you need a better work output
I used to use rice as my energy source before workouts. Big mistake.
I don’t disagree with this in principle IF you’re not spiking your insulin with carbs. Insulin spiking is a killer.
Hey there!
Do you have any good examples for good, healthy foods rich in fat?
if possible only in vegetarian-version because I don’t eat meat nor fish:/
Your carbs:fat:protein ratio should always remain fairly similar (maybe some small variations if you want), because the brain functions best on carbs, not just the body. People are so undercarbed these days on their higher fat diets that they need to resort to caffeine to even function mentally.
If you get your carbs from CLEAN sources (fruits, whole grains, beans, etc.) and avoid fattening food (processed junk food and animal products), then it’s almost impossible get fat, because whole foods fill you up properly and you have to eat a good deal of them to get all your calories. On top of that, you’ll be very high energy all the time (also because of the micronutrients in these healthy foods) and your mind will just feel ‘clean’ and clear.
This is the BEST explanation on carbs or fat that I’ve seen. Simple and makes sense. There’s no “Ermagerd… phat/karbs is good, if u disagree then u suk!!!” kinda thinking. Thanks a lot.
I just started keto and I can’t help but feel so overwhelmed with all the information out there. Thank you for breaking it down in a simple way
+Theleanmachine hello guys great videos I have a a quick question… I have a desk job (Realtor) I work out hard 5 or 6 days a week I been counting macros and I have doing good but I don’t know if I should consume for fats or carbs for the reason that I’m not doing anything fiscal but I do go hard at the gym.. hope you can help and keep the good videos going.
thanks
I run every day due to track and field practices with futbol twice a week should I keep my carbohydrates high on the day of futbol and track then in the middle with carbohydrates and fats on the days of track?
Hey guys I just love your videos. Just one request to make a video on how to achieve diffrent type of dream bodies ( e.gathletic type, body builder type, etc) it will be a great help as I am aiming to get an athletic body type.
I’m diabetic and find it better if I’m totalish. By that I mean I don’t count sugar alcohols but usually count total for vegetables and and nut flours. I find if I do the nut products I gain. I also have IBS and vtoo much fibre gives me issues. I personally count 1 carb for eggs that people often count as zero. Having said all that I do sometimes callow for net for things like avocado. I don’t eat them often but when I do I need the extra carbs.
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could please help me?
I’m a 19 year old girl, 5ft tall and weigh 110 lbs currently eating around 1400 calories a day and I’m working out 5 times a week (weights) and 3-4 days cardio. Am I eating too little? I want to build muscle but not gain fat. I love your vids btw!
hey lean machines my name is houari (who-r-ee) I’m 225 pounds lost about 15 already and gained 4 in muscle I work out a lot and I have a pretty good diet I want more results thought not fast or the easiest like all the other videos on YouTube I want one that’s a long term more of a lifestyle type of thing I would love to get any advice tips or just information and I started this about one month ago from today and I see a lot of results thinking about it now but what will give Me more of a edge?
Quick and simple video that explained everything perfectly; love it!
I am having some trouble with my motivation these days. I’ve tried exercising in the winter before, but it seems to make my joints ache even more; especially my ankles and hips. Do you have any tips on what I can do, any exercises so I don’t have an excuse not to work out?
What’s up! You made a great video! I hope I can make a video like that! Check out my channel and Subscribe! Your awesome!
Guys you’ve sent us some incredible comments that we’d love to reply to but Goggle won’t let us to some of you. This is probably because you have comments disabled or possibly don’t have a google account. Either way we’d love to answer your questions if we can.
Can you guys please make like a diet plan and workout plans for 90 days!!!
What are some of of the best ways to increase calcium intake? I am a dancer and recently got injured with a stress fracture, but I’m worried that increasing the amount of dairy in my diet will cause me put on a few pounds. Of course I will be exercising throughout my time off but it just isn’t the same as spending 5 hours in rehearsals every day. Another thing I’m worried about is that my muscles may atrophy because I’m just not using them that much, is there any way to combat that?
great video, i was wondering about this subject a while ago but this makes it super clear!
Hey guys,
First of all, I really love your video’s.
So I’ve never been to the gym before and almost haven’t done excercises at all. I want to start but I don’t really know how or with what kind of excercises. Some extra information: I’m not that good at push ups and I’m a endomorph. I really hope you guys can help.
Thanx, I been wanting know exactly this infgo.for a while. Thanx
Someone mentioned on here about vegans and vegetarians eating high carbs but not suffering from diabetes, being obese and the like but it doesn’t mean you can’t eat meat and still not be healthy and not suffer from these ailments. The fact is a vegan diet is generally lower in fat than for someone eating protein especially from animal source. Fat is attached to animal protein sources, you eat eggs, beef, chicken whatever, you’re going to get in some fat. And depending on the cut or part of said animal you’ll be consuming more or less fat. The body uses either carbs or fat as its sources of energy. Yes, vegans get fat from nuts or the oils they use, but it’s not as much fat as someone who is an omnivore, eating animal protein. So, naturally the vegan would need to consume more carbs to support his activity level. It’s either carbs or fat as an energy source to be used. Carbs aren’t the enemy but as the Lean Machine duo pointed out many people overeat on carbs. Mainly because they have been brainwashed into this ritual of “snacking”. Too many of my clients come to me with this idea of having a snack and the need to have one. if you’ve consumed enough food/calories at your major meals with the appropriate levels of fat, protein and fibre in, you shouldn’t need to be doing all this snacking. And individuals tend to snack on the wrong things. Rubbish granola bars that are high in sugar, 100 calorie snack packs, protein bars that are no better than chocolate bars really, pastries and biscuits and the like. That’s where a lot of processed carbs are ingested and where the over consumption of the same happens. But good job lads for explaining this often times over complicated subject.
Very informative, always learning from watching you guys. Keep up the great work
FANTASTIC video. Short and sweet, but easy to understand. Great job lads.
Love this! I think it’s important to say that there isn’t one diet fits all. If something works for you then great but let’s not bash each other for being different. I’m ketogenic-fat adapted and it works for me in terms of fat loss, muscle gain and maintenance, my mental clarity is superb now, my type 2 diabetes has gone, improving my insulin resistance (pre-type 2), my blood work (glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol) is amazing. More importantly i’ve never felt better. Do what works for you BUT if you’re reading this and you’re unable to lose weight by doing what most doctors / fitness people tell you which is up your carbs to “keep you full” then maybe try something new.:) Good job +TheLeanMachines
Guys, I need to add to your point about high carbs on wokrout days.
Your body takes several hours to digest the food you eat (depending on what it is) and extract the nutrients to increase your muscles glycogen levels, so really you should be making a point to mention that you need to eat your high carb meal at least 4 hours before you plan to need the energy from the food, otherwise your making use of the glycogen already in your muscles and not the new energy from the food that will still be sitting in your stomach or intestines digesting.
Hello guys, I really need your help, am skinny and tall, and to be honest no body is doing videos from skinny to fit, if u can upload a video it will be great thx
Most knowable Q&A in the industry, moore of these please
So if I wanted to lose weight I should eat more fat? Sorry sounds a bit weird to me, could you explain?
This is exactly what I talk about in this video:
https://youtu.be/M5qPBQzkqI0
I really enjoyed this video because y’all explained the content so well.
High fat gives me spots and is less natural as our bodies are made to have Carbs as a primary macro energy source. Plus fat gives you the runs. #teamcarbs
So if I plan to workout in the morning, what should I be eating (fat or carbs) the night before and the lunch after?
Hey guys.. Would you consider doing a video on carb cycling? I’m tracking my macros & it works out I should eat 151g of carbs, 156g protein & 45g of fat.. But I want to make sure I’m getting the most out of my training sessions and I think carb cycling would be a good way to go. I just don’t know an awful lot about it! Thanks! X
Great video, I agree that there is definitely no one perfect diet out there. I was just wondering, how would you recommend vegans to approach this topic? You see my main protein sources are beans and pulses which are carb high as well, so I can’t really do high protein low carb. Just another way to show that different diets will have different approaches to organising their macros:)
I train early in the morning fasted so would you recommend I have my high carb days the day before I train and have the majority of them later in the day so my glycogen levels are sufficient for my weight training the next morning?
if I am correct but all the Chapmans are on youtube and also thanks guys for simplifying that down
really do enjoy your videos, you two seem very up to date and well versed in what you talk about. also, it helps that you both are sexy, not that i want to have sex with you but you seem to have very attractive personalities!
Really interesting video. I dance and am never sure what I should eat prior to shows or competitions but this has helped a lot
Just found your channel and I really like it! I was wondering if you could help me maybe? I weight a bit to much, not supremuch but I really need to lose a few kg. Many people are saying that the way to do that is to eat less calories but I kind off have a problem there. A year ago me and my friend used to work out together and she was obsessed with counting calories and without me thinking about it I started to do the same. I started to feel bad about eating och started to get more anxious about food. And whenever we worked out I always thought that I need to lose as many calories as possible. I got out of it when I stopped working out with her but I scared I start to think the same way again if I start counting calories. So I was wondering if there is any tips on how to have a good food plan without having to count calories?:)
very informative guys! appreciate the clarity. We need videos which just break it down as simply as that. Smashing!
i do about 30-60 min of cardio everyday does that mean i can basicly eat carbs 24/7?
Hmm is it not best to load up on carbs the day before a big workout. Give the body time to digest them. Thats what works best for me.
Thank you very much for the video. Yes, I am sitting all day at the desk:( no more carbs:)
Wow. How easy was that to understand?! Lower carbs on office days higher carbs if training. Great simple advice and much much better I am sure than buying a special offer wonder drug that the Internet says is exclusively available just for me for the next 60 mins! Keep up the good work lads.
Do we do this even if we need to lose a lot of weight if we eat carbs and exercise wont it all just stay there sabotaging fat loss
What if your a child like me (I’m ten) you can’t really buy the food you want. P.S awesome videos
Have higher carbs on the day before heavy training so the carbs can get digested and store as glycogen.
Please make a full workout video to burn fat so I can get a 6 pack
Are going on jogs the easiest way to lose weight? Are they good
A lovely and a simple way to break it down! Thanks again guys!
Great vid lads… I have this argument lots. People convinced fat is the enemy and the need to avoid. Skimmed milk, Marge and not butter, 1 cal spray and no oils… It’s nuts
I listened to the podcast you did with Fouad and I’m glad for everything you touched upon, I learned a lot. Thanks very much!
Love this video! I love carbs and love being active even on my rest day ( I like walking and doing other activities), I like to eat abundant amount of complex carbs with tasty carbs as well:-)
Omg!!! I love this video especially politics in bodybuilding! It drives me crazy when people lose and say it’s politics. Bullshit. Only, maybe, like you said, at the pro level. Not local, stare or regional. Utter nonsense. It’s an epidemic endemic belief here in SW FL. Great video!
Bro you should advertise through like promolta or something for views!!! That way your videos will come up in related searches
We need MORE videos guys not 1 every other damn month!!! Awesome!!!!
So, you’re saying that Mac N’ Cheese on a Pizza isn’t okay, aren’t you? HAHAHA!
I probably misheard you but it sounded like you were implying that sucralose was a sugar alcohol when it really isn’t, I’m pretty sure. And liquid sucralose (as opposed to Splenda) is very low carb and of course there are other non-sugar alcohol sweeteners that are fine depending on how strict you are. It just seemed a bit vague the way you put it, by saying that you did use sugar alcohols because you used splenda, SF jello, etc. Not that it’s a big deal no matter either way .
Yes very hopeful video. I just need to know how to start. I know for a fact stop buying carbs.
