Either way, a lack of carbohydrates can lead to that heavy-legs feeling. When you’re running, your body is always using a mixture of carbohydrates and fat for the energy your muscles need. Those carbohydrates are stored in your muscles in a form called glycogen.A major potential cause of your heavy legs stems from poor form.
Good form is always a key component to running —even when you’re tired, says Aaptiv trainer Jaime McFaden. “When we get tired, we can compromise form, and legs can feel sore or we can even spark injury,” she explains.CECS produces lower leg pain as a result of exercise and sometimes makes your legs feel heavy when running. If the heaviness you’re feeling relates to CECS, you will also experience a crampy feeling that starts during exercise. Typically, the pain returns in the same location each time you run, despite resting and feeling better when not running.Leg heaviness triggered by your morning or afternoon runs can occur during excessive training.
It may also be because of overtraining without taking some rest periods, running on rough trails, and wearing improper running shoes. You see, intense sprinting may increase the build-up of lactic acid in your body.As you become more and more dehydrated during your stride, the blood gets thicker which makes it harder to pump – therefore your legs feel heavy after running. Strong body If you don’t have enough of muscle weight, you might be simply wearing out your body. That’s why you feel like someone filled your shoes with cement.
One of the main causes of heavy or tired legs is venous insufficiency, which is caused when difficulties occur as blood returns to the heart from the veins. In these cases, a specialist will prescribe the best treatment to restore normal blood flow and relieve fatigue. 2 Hormonal changes are another of the most common causes of tired legs.Dehydration and electrolyte depletion are both common causes of heavy legs when running.

Everyone feels pain when running from the start or first day. Actually those elastic sheath contain fat which can be used by muscles when need. So after some days. Those layer sheath will dissolve to provide energy and problem will be solved. Compartment syndrome is not harmful at all. With time you will get better.
Who is watching this while there legs are killing them
I SWEAR TO GOD IM GOING TO SCREAM
The body is such a complex system. I have pain when i am running and went to fysiotherapy. The guy gave me some stretch exercises and running drills, because i wasnt running properly. Til this day i still have pain while running, and seems like nothing helps. Could be anything, maybe i do have that compartment syndrome but how do you know???
The quality of the content and advice and recommendations are monumental here SJD. Awesome info. The dog chase, think we’ve all been there. Made me smile while working on Sundowner trailer inventory today. Make it a great weekend!
It happens to me during a game of basketball, does it happens due to my weight?????
My weight is 104kg….
I’ve been having pain in what feels like my shin while running, got an x-ray and nothing turned up. This might help
TIP: if your legs hurt lay down and put your legs on top of the pillow.Stay there for a few minutes. The pain goes away it works everytime for me.
For running faster, I usually count my steps and try to do more steps on the next mile….”example: 5k race, count for the first mile and if I like the time for that mile try to maintain…if want to go faster, try to do more steps for the 2 and 3rd”
David dunkun fix my shin splints.
Dude it’s really work simple and easy you should watch him how easy fix the shin splints

When I was in the Army, shin splints were a very common thing. I used to see a lot of people complain about it and just think they were malingerers but it wasn’t until I got shin splints that I knew, they are NO JOKE
You guys are fast and go far! I’m training for my first 1/2 marathon so did 7 miles this morning just under lactate threshold. At 72, and a new runner, that’s a good day for me. But I do enjoy watching all you speed demons.
Running with a metronome is a good idea too! It’s the most boring run, but doing a few months with a metronome and you’ll have your ideal cadence memorized.
Can compartment syndrome cause pain on outer side shin, or mimic sciatica? I am long time aging (64) runner with sciatica (rt side)last 6 months including rt foot
turns out 45 degrees when standing on left and raising right foot. Standing on right foot left foot points straight. Had Physical Therapy, Torridal Injections,Nerve Conductor Test, Going for site injection February 27th hip area, then MRI if no improvement. Just had right foot x rayed two days ago no results yet. Pain pills are only relief for about 3 hours on a scale of 1-10 they lower it to 3 when walking.
Experience daily discomfort and pain from tibia muscles. I practice 5hours golf 6 days a week….I walk a lot. Only left leg….outside muscle….not like shins…..that seems inside. Why left leg only suffer is because golfswing is all about weight shift….from right leg to left. So left leg endure 50% more tension and stress.
Yup Racing (sort of) this weekendI have a 50 Miler coming up in a few week and needed a good training run this weekend, found a race a little more than an hour from here in Millburn NJ so I went with the 20 mile option. Was quite windy today and had rained the last 2 days so…. it was quite muddy, technical and hilly around 3000′ of climbing in those miles. I went in with the goal of really being able to run it and still get in something on Sunday so I cant call it a race as such but used it for the purpose of getting ready for the race in a few weeks time. Overall I am OK with the results although I would like to have been a bit faster but no injuries and although tired today I am feeling all right. (Even picked up some Epsom Salts on the way home and had a soak) Additionally if you get a chance check your email sent you a shoe question
Had it for 10 years. Started when I was 12. For years I could not walk 10minutes without pain. I had 2 surgeries in both shins. 1st cut was too small and it healed so a 2nd bigger cut had to be made in both shins. After that I just build up my training routine and changed my running strike to midfoot / forefoot. Stretching the shins is really important to prevent this injury to happen. Most people do not stretch their shins unfortunately….
2 years after the last surgery now and im able to walk 30km without a break, run 3km without pain in the shins!
Also I do train young boxers. I have had some boxers who started to experience the same pain as I had. Even one of my boxers had the pain for almost a year.
I told him to stretch his shins by sitting on the knees and heels while having his shoes on. This way you can stretch the shins. Also I told him to look at his standing posture. He was pronating too much with both feet just like I did. I told him to think about the posture al the time he was standing and walking and to stop pronating too much.
He listened carefully and within a couple months his pain was gone.
Maybe some people here can learn from my experiences. I am happy to help anyone!
Yep. I did my long run just a couple hours ago before eating, stretching, and watching this. What’d I do? 23 miles with the last 8 at goal marathon pace (or faster). So the first 15 miles was around 7:20 7:25 per mile. The last 8 miles were around a 6:10 per mile average. I incorporate hills on this portion so my body gets used to running fast on hills even when tired. Total elevation gain was around 910 feet, and total duration of the run was 2:41:01. So I averaged around 6:59 per mile. I forced myself to not stop at all. I carried my water and my gels on me, and consumed them as I ran. 5 maurten gels total were used and 16oz of water was consumed. I couldn’t find a place to fill up my water bottle, but it turned out alright. Temp was 38 degrees at the start, and probably mid 40’s when I finished. I ran this in my race gear, but because there was direct sunlight the whole way, it actually was rather warm considering the temp. I did not feel as tired as I thought I would when i finished. I was tired, but usually long runs take more out of me. It was just a really good day today.
Thank you, coach Nate and all other Run Experience coaches. Watching and learning from you guys along with my runs are the only breakthrough that I could turn to in this crazy, frustrating time. ❤️ So hard to carry on life with smiles today.

QD: since Florida is so flat and this channel has mormtivated me to search for some elevation, i went and ran some bridges. Did a medium long run (10 miles) and it felt harder than I wanted it to.
I have this now because in basketball we nonstop run suicides
I am suffering from heavy legs that seems to be from the waist down its worse when I use my recumbent bike its not pain its just heavy like Im being pulled down Im a 72yrs old female with bad knees and back and this bike seems to be good exercise. What type of breathing technique do you do on your runs? Too much info out there. Curious on your philosophy
Mam I have pain in legs completely so I want to get treatment 100% in age of 50 yrs
I just found this channel and really like your content. I hope you do well
Seth, I am out of town on a business trip right now. I ran 11 miles this morning, along the coast in Barcelona, Spain. Beautiful weather, and a pleasant change from the conditions in Michigan right now.
My right leg at the back is super tight and painful what do I do
Ima football player I broken my leg after I got the cast off my leg hurt for 2 month
I had compartment syndrome in my right arm and hurt a lot when I played tennis but after surgery it is much better
When i run i run out of breath quickly after running for like a good 20 to 30 seconds and my legs hurt i get joints in my legs and they hurt like hell and it feels like theres something heavy inside it weighing so much thats why it slows down( im not fat i actually use to be able to run for a long time and used to be fast but now i started to get these walking pain etc it started back in mid 2018 Yesterday i went to the docters etc did Xray nothing there but i thinks theres nothing in me its just the physicall and mentsl state of my legs idk really
Help?
Hey Barbie’s great grandma is still alive. And no surprise, her advise is that if your leg keeps hurting when you run, then you should have surgery. She’s so smart.
It’s so annoying, it hurts and make my legs feel heavy, and tomorrow I have a 3000 m test
Time on feet is important, go by time instead of distance at first, improve your running economy..throw in speedwork at least once a week, that should help!!
Running in toed shoes also makes a tremendous difference. Forcing me to actually engage my feet, and in a manner in which they arent’s constricted like in a conventional shoe, helped me overcome shin splints and stress fractures immensely. (Goes without saying: allowing time for FULL recovery is also key in maintaining your health) I am now building an actual foundation of muscles in my feet, ankles and calves to truly support my weight whilst running. I’m running longer distances and reaching new benchmarks like i never have in my life, and im 24 and have never really done any serious running.
STOP HEEL-STRIKING you don’t need surgery or needle sticks in the muscle to manage pressure just run barefoot
Hill City Trail Half-Marathon out of Manitou Springs. Ended up with 23 miles apparently it was a HEAVY half-Marathon. (Or I missed the turn.. ) haha. Great day on trails with my good friend Todd!
Am born without dry feet with no calf and my ankles are the worst pls any solution to it.am really ashamed of it and cant even were sneakers
I am
On my bed watching this with body so fatigue from running esp the lower back and the legs
My training schedule suggested a 10k race for today. I just went out for a hard run, ended up beating my PB (from 42:25 to 40:41) even though the course had over 500 feet of elevation gain… Feeling really confident right now with two more weeks until my spring marathon:)
Funny. My highschool is big on sports and our maskot is the Bulldog’s. I’m looking to be a better runner
i have school in a hour and my legs hurt/i walk so uncomfortable
Started running mainly to decrease my leg size and to get it into a better shape, also increasing my stamina. It’s been 4 months now and people notice my leg (thigh and calves) getting BIGGER and not anywhere slimmer. Do you think this has to do with genetic, my eating, or because I’m not increasing my distance miles fast enough??
Why u on make a bag of noise is that the plantar fascia is weak.If u strengthen the soles of the feet u will make less noise and possibly run faster if u can increase hand speed
I raced a 205 mile relay race this weekend. We used 8 total runners to complete the distance, it was amazing and everyone should try a relay race at least once. It makes running a team sport which is a hard to find situation in a typically solo sport.
QD:I had an upbeat long run down thunderroad it’s 12 miles pretty good pace., Seth thank you YouTube for putting you on my recommendations cause if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have gotten all of your great tips your such and inspiring person citizen and runner and you show me that even at the hardest times of life you can be close to prudent you are a real inspiration to so many people and I just want to thank you for all the stuff that I’ve learned from you on this channel keep up the great work and remember it doesn’t matter how big the channel is if it’s a strong support system your golden and you’ve got my lifetime support to this Channel btw I’m 13 and your the person who inspired me to run and now I’m running 4:50 mil I train every day and work my hardest for you
So a long stride may not be ideal? I try to run faster by taking longer steps rather than just pushing quicker normal stride steps
PLEASE PRAY THAT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU IMMEDIATELY INVESTIGATE THE GREEN DOT DEBIT CARD BANKS COMPANY SO THAT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE OUR BLESSED LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST CAN GET THEIR MONEY BACK THANK YOU AMEN. MAY THE GOOD GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR ALL YOUR LOVING PRAYERS AMEN.

Don’t try to raise your cadence just to raise your cadence. At the same speed it can use up more energy than a cadence that’s slower but more natural
Don’t focus on raising your heel excessively. It may make you faster in certain contexts but it‘s also likely to waste energy if unnecessary
I had a race last weekend and I got 7th out of 150 people in the LandRun 50k. My time was 4hours and 20minutes and there was 2,247ft. of elevation gain. Oh btw I’m only 13.
Maybe the guy with the heavy legs eats more than he should with meats and fruits.
I raced at the Indiana Indoor State Meet the Hoosier State Relays at IU. 18 Second PR of 9:56.34. I’ve cut 35 seconds off my PR in the last month and a half from 10:31.
I dealt with compartment syndrome when i was a relatively new runner. Its not a sharp pain, but the tightness can stop you mid run and is really frustrating. Luckily i never needed an operation, i simply took long breaks between training blocks to let my body fully recover and the problem went away
when i was in year 6 my legs were fine and i could run but when i was in year 7 my legs were paining me everytime i run
thanks it did work for me after doing 5km running exercise…
However is it cool if i do these exercises after taking a shower?
To be honest this helped so much for new stretches and same i love to do thank you.

could have just stretched everyday, american doctors love cutting people open
WTF so i should go for leg surgery just because i jump 100 time yesterday and now my leg muscles is so pain???
QD: Raced the first race of the Greater Lansing Race Series today. Took 1st in my AG and 2nd overall with a 5k PR ( 18:53). Thanks for the training advice! I’m really starting to focus on running for the first time in my life and excited to see how fast I can get.
I did “somewhat” of a long run, at least longer for me. I tore some ligaments and tendons in my knee a few months ago and was running decent 6:40 pace for a 10k and doing longer runs of 10 miles or so. Never been much of a long run person but after watching your videos Im starting to focus a lot more on them. Yesterday did slow 8 miles and today doing a slower 6 miles depending on how I feel. I do triathlons so also focusing on swimming and my biking in conjunction with my running.
THANK U FOR THAT VIDEO…SHOWS EXACTLY THE STUFF I WOULD NEVER DO TO MYSELF…U ARE DRIVIN BY CORPERAT
I clicked on this video to try to fix my legs burning out before my cardiovascular system I expect do this stretch take a warm up jog train sprints but instead I get go to a specialist in Nicaragua get ur blood drawn get it infused with some drug and re inject it in ur back bro I’m 16 I’m not fucking doin that
Post long run today. Ran 10 miles yesterday, ran 3.5 today. Feel great and I love my foot roller!!!!!
This doctor said nothing, she just wants to perform surgery or inject you. Ridiculous, of course sitting down will help! Donkey
So where can i have this done. I doubt the dr. Jethros where i live have even heard of this.
omg! seth this has happened to me just last week and i coasted the week out, i cut my last speed day and took 2 rest days instead of one. i think i overdid it w my mileage goal this week, and then tried a really fast threshold wednesday which was the nail in the coffin! i am feeling great today on monday and im gonna take it back w my mileage just a hair. also listening to the vid rn, and i use foam rolling and heat therapy (heating pad), and i use a muscle relief body wash that is amazing! this video helped me so much seth!
Thank you Dr. Chris Centeno for taking the time in doing and uploading this video. It is very informative that the growth factors were isolated from your own platelets and not chemicals.
Not because we have heavy legs mean that we should get an operation imean its not that heavy
Hello,
I’m from lebanon, i came 1st to a cross country race (championship of the universities in lebanon(middle east)), it was a 2 miles uphill race that i edged my competitor by a split of a second.
I was excited when I saw this video, then I watched it and I am let down. You are privileged and a health care professional who knows the right people. I am not privileged nor do I have any close friends who are doctors. I feel like this is a waste of most people’s time. I would love to get treatment for my heavy legs I just dont think this is an option for me. I live in Boulder Colorado, I don’t know where I could get this done, if you have any advice please let me know
I dance too much I think that’s why my legs are tired I never take a rest
Love the videos and help.I’m not built like a runner (I was a rugby union back row) so I’m very heavy footed. Thanks for the help
I love my dogs. I love other people’s dogs. I just don’t love other people’s dogs chasing me when I’m running.
When my legs feel tired I feel dizzy and I’m scared to tell a doc cuz like what if I got to remove my legs…?
5 weeks out from my marathon = plenty days of tired legs! Trying to walk the line with maintaining good volume, getting workouts in, getting the long runs down, within my energy budget. As you say, a balancing act that requires care and self awareness / acceptance / kindness!
good idea but Also -i learned it is from lymph nodes, issues with gut, and or anemia issues.
When I play basketball the front of my leg just kills me, mainly my left, all I do is shoot around. I am over weight but it’s not crazy.
i got this due to antidepressant meds i went off over a month ago. hopefully it goes away i could be retaining fluid in my legs since im a lean guy over all
Tired! So tired! QD: Only felt like 3-5k as my shins were hurting and I was just shuffling slowly. Pain dulled after a while & ended up doing a long-ish 10k.
i am a weighlifter and I don’t have a lot of workout time so I gave up the very little aerobic exercise that I use to do. I am fat now and need to run. By the time I get to half a mile my shins burn and ache so bad I cannot keep going. Should I just keep pushing, trying to do more everyday?
Its been a few years since a started jogging. Got back into it agai recently. When I start jogging, the bone in front of my lower calf starts to hurt. Is this normal?
rest does not solve the problem, why are these medical videos so lacking, anybody knows this
I just used a new pair of shoes from vivobarefoot for running, well I run everyday and after using these shoes, my calves are on fire, but the bottoms of my feet are actually a bit sore, do you recommend vivobarefoot shoes or should I stick to my regular running shoes which have arch suppport?
When I run, I get this pain on my right side just below the rib cage
This is great thanks Coach Nate! I’m getting back into running and have so many fears on running injury and these tips are great!!!!
Thank you for the tips! May I ask what camera and holder you are using? I am amazed by how well your video is stable as you run.
Just subscribed!! Will definitely keep watching your videos!
I’ve noticed that on many of your videos, cadence is often the most important part of your advice… for many things!!! I’ve definitely noticed the difference even only slightly paying attention to that!! Thank you so much, love your videos!!
Does this apply to lifting as well? I have periods of time when my body feels sore and tired as fuck but I just keep doing what I’m doing and in a couple of weeks I feel good again
Since I don’t run I was going to skip this but I’m glad I checked it out. Idea of calf help and stretches even for standing a lot or getting back into longer inclined walking.
Guys you have heavy feet because of all the padding. Get some barefoot shoes‼️‼️‼️‼️
Would of been absolutely epic had you put your shoes on the wrong foot. . Awesome video!
Based off of how everyone else is talking, my legs may just be getting pushed down on the ground too hard because I can keep going it just hurts a little
I was happy to hear you mention bare foot running. There are many benefits to either incorporating it into your training or going all in and ditching the shoes.
Great video! It’s amazing how running lighter can help so much with your body and improve your times!
Thanks for the video. Quick question, I’m looking for similar headphones like you’re wearing that you can hang around your neck and secure over your ears. Mind sharing what brand you are using?
I’m the opposite I run a lot but when I walk fast and for long distances my legs start to hurt idk where the pain/discomfort is coming from or what it is
Got a 15K tomorrow hoping to be around an hour and a little change. My 1/2 Marathon in couple of weeks was pushed back to Oct. So now wanting to find another 1/2 before my Sept full Marathon.
Had tryouts today for lax, coach made us a run an insane amount. Let me tell you, I’d make it to the other football line on par with all the other kids, then when I turned around to run back, my legs would not move. I knew I could run faster so my upper body was moving fast af but my legs wouldn’t move (I was running past the coach on every rep)
i have those symptoms, but it aint from running, its a metabolic problem for me, sub clinical scurvy
I was sitting
I stood up
My legs felt *weak
And i started crying for no reason
Sorry that it took me so long to correct that
I once went trying new route and ended up getting chased at by at least 5 dogs on the way, my first and last time ever running through that route. Not fun.
This came right on time: litteraly about to go on my long run and I noticed that lately I start running heavier… Not really a lot had changed though, so I didn’t get it… Running on Brooks Adrenaline GTS20 normally on the road, so nice and cushioned, super comfy…. Since I’m about to run more off road than on road today I put my Brooks Cascadia 14 on already. Already feel the difference in how I walk and stand Will also mind to engage the core and glutes more and put my focus back in the run by switching up my route… Awesome tips again, thanks! Yay for TRE, now let’s go for a run! ♀️
Stuck to my scheduled, weekly long run today against 35 mph winds. Big mistake. Threw my form off big-time and aggravated an old injury. By mile nine I was struggling through a good amount of pain. Not an enjoyable run. I’ll never run in gusts like that again.
Had a race last weekend, 10 Miler finished in 1:05. First time racing in the zoom fly flyknit and they felt really good.
Many time legs too much pain mine while i play football and running in the field.many times i try to be recoverfully but not workout.i want to out from this suffering how can i improve myself
I’m going to do a 27-kilometer workout at a slow pace tomorrow.
Anything simpler? It’s not as if my doctors going to do this injection.
I did focus on my cadence this morning and yes it was helpful, not to mention my daily pre/post run yoga stretches too!
Every time I put weight on the front of my foot, my calf gets extremely sore and painful, and my leg gives out. Is this a calf sprain or a pull of the calf or something?
I almost spit my wine out when you said you were “chased by dogs!” LOL!!!
Tired!
QD: Long run scheduled for tomorrow, 19 miler. I’m previewing the Colfax marathon course. I’m running middle distance today, 9 easy miles. The time trial I ran last Sunday killed my legs, it took 3 days to feel recovered.
I’m a bit older than you (40), and resting my feet for too long puts them into lazy mode. I have to do the exact opposite of your routine: Stay on the move! As a professor I’m on my feet during working hours anyway, and on top of that I usually walk for 2-4 hours a day through my city (I never use a car nor public transportation) to run errands, or just for leisure with the family, who luckily love being on their feet as much as I do. This way I add another 10-15k of very low effort, no impact activity to my running on a daily basis.
I had a race on Friday, it’s was a frosh/soph race. I placed first in the 400, 800 and 4 by 4. I was going to have a race today on Saturday but it was cancelled due to snow. Do you have any advice coming from long distance to sprinting, or how I can become faster
Hi Seth, really enjoying your channel, in answer to your question here’s a great run coming up in New Zealand https://youtu.be/i-7FzfDk9ak
Seth, thank you for all your videos. I am “newish” to your channel but love all your contents and what great energy you have!
I did my first 100 mile race last Friday. In recovery mode now. I went for a couple of gentle bike rides and tried a little run yesterday. My right knee is quite sore, I suspect some sort of tendonitis?.. What would you recommend treatment wise?
I like the idea of the blue rub, I live in Scotland UK, any similar products you could also recommend?
Thank you, all the best with your training and channel.
Excellent tips, I’m fairly new to this hobby. Is there a way to calculate miles run without hauling around a phone?
Sometimes my legs cramp and sometimes stop working and I collapse it usually happens when I’m sleeping.
12.2 miles today. 15-20 mph wind made the return stretch fight back. Your tips help me know when to push, when to rest, and how to recover. Thanks.
Super popular in Europe is Arnica massage oil, for muscle repair. But I want to come back on the dog chasing topic. Maybe you could do a video on that at some point. My husband just yesterday got bitten by a dog full sets of teeth into skin on his knee and turns out the dog is not up to date on its shots. I too was attacked by another, scratch marks across my back, hole in my shirt. How to run safely with dogs? Do you turn your back or act strong and growl back? Is outrunning them really the best answer? Would you ever bring a spray along? Grrr, dogs are a runner’s worst enemy… unless of course, you have a dog and are running with one!
My leg been hurting for a month and ask my sister to take me to the doc but she says I’ll be fine sooo when I lose both of my leg I want someone to come tell my family “I told you so”
My XC team has a traffic of running the game ball from our school to a rival school for the football game
I love that this guy said a good ole nerf war never hurt anyone. Has this guy ever gone really hard in one? I have gotten some real injuries from nerf lol
I’m a cyclist with a major problem. Heavy dead tired lactic legs. Low watts per kilo. Getting worse. 43 years old been on bike 30 yrs. Wonder if I don’t drink enough. Seam to forget drink in day when at work.. Only ride 4 times a week 90 mins each heart stays at 75-81%. Could push more but legs been dead all of 2020. Any advise. Tried weeks off. Hasn’t worked. Thanks
Ah, a running topic. This is going to seem really counter-intuitive but it worked for me; go for a VERY long run, somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2 hours. The pace should be SLOW, even slogging along. This helped me get rid of my dead legs that I was having for weeks in just the next day.
This method was given by legendary New Zealand coach Arthur Lydiard.
I’m at this stage, stuck doing doing 5 k runs 3 times a week.. Will take your advice and train for 10k now. Thanks!
I had our spring opener yesterday, and it definitely did not go as planned. Was hoping to dip under 16:20 for a PR or better yet closer to 16 flat. Turns out it wasn’t my day, a little chilly, 20 mph winds, and a last minute change by the staff to combine the two heats which sent my teammate and I sprinting to get to the line before the gun went off haha! Ended up running 16:57, but oh well, a good rust buster to open the season. Sometimes life throws ya curve balls, but no time to sulk, back on the horse today! I will break that 16 minute barrier, mark my words!
3rd ever parkrun. Pb 18.16:) had sub 18 in the books but slight calf tightness the week prior during easy trail run so hung back a bit to feel it out but still pb by 54 seconds haha:)
I suffer from exertional compartment syndrome I can barely run 2km before it flares up..just wondering if anyone has advice on that matter? Also I’m 30kg overweight, if I lose that 30kg will running get a bit easier?
I raced the Terrapin Mountain 50k in Virginia. Weather was fantastic! Sunny and 40s. Lots of mountain running and vert (7k ft). Managed to grab 4th place and super pumped with the result. Trail running is the best. I hope after Cleveland you come back to the trails!
Woke up feeling very tired and achey in my feet, hips and knees so wasn’t looking forward to my run today at all. Good long warm up soon loosened things up and got myself a new Parkrun + 5k PB On to the long run tomorrow to up my mileage for a half marathon in May
I’ve got a half marathon in the town where I’m from, hoping to beat my PR for the course which is 1.20.18
Tired. Awesome video!! Great advice. Epson salt is fantastic. God bless.
I will be doing a long run after this vlog is over! Gonna drive to the Cincinnati nature center for some rolling hill trails! Then I’m packing for a backpacking trip in the smokies!
i just raced this morning and onto the recovery phase, mann lying in bed + compression boots + your vlogs = this is better than netflix
Compartment Syndrome.. is that accurate medic geeks.. it doesnt match with what learned about it it in medschool.
Did a 8 mile long run At 7:00 pace, trying to break 5 in the mile this year as an 8th grader
I got a venous stasis ulcer at age 16. I’m 33yo. I’ve had several strokes between 16yo 22yo. I’m on day 24 of a special diet, which has helped, but hasn’t solved my problem. I’ve cut out sodium about 90%. My sodium intake is usually around 600mg-1200mg a day. When I cut it to 200mg, I get light headed. When I stay around 400 my legs actually feel the opposite of heavy. I feel light headed as if I’m floating and my legs have no weight. So the balance is 0-200mg is too light headed to where you’ll pass out 400-600 is (for me) my safe medium and above 800 is when the pain sets in.
Everyone is different. Sodium draws in fluid. With weak veins, the more sodium means more fluids in the legs. With less sodium, less fluids, but you can go as far as having too little fluids to keep your blood pumping so you have to have some sodium to survive. I’ve heard that amount is 200-500mg (just to survive). The average daily recommendation is 1500. Most Americans are getting 6000mg daily.
If you eat only natural home cooked food without added salt you will find sodium in potatoes, celery, mushrooms, beets, lettuce, etc. Depending on what you’re cooking, that may he all you need for the day.
Your basis for your pain is your sodium intake. Once you’ve regulated that, you need to work on plan b. Are you deficient in any vitamins? Anemia, etc.
I’m not a doctor, but personal experience.
Sometimes my shins hurt sometimes the don’t. Today went for a jog after stretching and a small walk to warm up and within 2 minutes I had to stop running, not because I was out of breath but because my shins hurt so bad. Hard to get into shape when running/ walking gcan give such pain. Whack.
Hey Seth, I need a good running book to read. I know you just got a new one but I couldn’t remember the name of it
Honestly I didn’t hear anything you said because I was too busy trying to figure out what was in the background. I’m convinced it’s Contra Costa County, like Pleasant Hill or Martinez, but it’s probably somewhere in the South Bay or something
If it hurts then don’t do it. Find another hobby. Doctors are gonna f u up.
This is awesome, I wish I had found this a few years ago. Can I do the hop drills in bare feet sometimes?
Raced a half today (over 800 runners for the inagurial Wendell Foster Half Marathon) Reached my goal of less than 2 hours and less than 9minutes/mile (not to bad considering I slowed my training considerably when it became extremely cold and windy weeks before the race). Ready for faster workouts and long runs now that it’s warmer. Was 5th out of 19 in the men’s 55-59 age group (the four that beat me were 55 years old…. I turn 59 this Tuesday:-O ) Goal is to BQ in Chicago this fall ( 8:50/mile for my age group)… I’m shooting for 8:45/mile!
I just hope its not my heart unable to pump enough blood to my legs. That’s all I really care.
Seth simple but effective recovery lie flat on the floor and put your legs on a chair / couch let gravity be your friend.
Easy days yep WALKING is a valid training option I would add a backpack so you add a little more stress (usually I carry some water bottles not to drink but just for the weight if you need to you can dispose of the weight) CYCLING is also a valid low impact easy day. SWIMMING is even lower stress a kick board help you work those legs..
I’m also a fan of YOGA type poses for basic strengthening and low impact workouts.
Total snake oil salesman……wow…I would not give him a red cent.
Tired leg tip from a long time veteran, now Master runner: Take a day off!!! Nap instead!!! Or if you can, swim (gentle kick from hips) or do free weights…no squats or lunges! Like Seth mentioned: walking will suffice too. Self massage is good! Be kind to your legs now, pays off later!!!
Ran 10.33 miles today. My longest run ever. I just had a late lunch and now it’s nap time.
Your intro/exit city tag changed from Denver to Idaho Springs!
He lands on the heels when he runs. Not good form. Watch at min 1:42
Marathon distance bush trail run Saturday. My time was 7 minutes quicker than 4 weeks ago, so reasonably happy with the progression. Hoping to get out to the mountains every couple of weeks, starting this Saturday. Also looking to build my long run up to 50 miles before my 119km race in June.
My shin muscles get so tight when I run I bend down and massage them right there on the track. I just let the tightness go away and run until it comes back, after a few times I give up.
Aquabike sprint in FL
I was lucky enough to get a first place. Very few racers though:(
I’m going to apply this right away and make some changes to my program. I was doing 5km runs 3x a week and definitely felt heavy and dead legs for awhile now.
Bro, a vegan diet really improves bloodflow… Also longer erections xD so…here’s that tip
Hey, I chased and caught myself a new 5k PB today at a local Parkrun. Do you have Parkrun’s in the US?
Enjoyed the vlog, cheers
I can’t even run more than two minutes it is not because I’m fat or out of breath but because my leg is getting tired so quickly. i do 100 push up before running and some streches. what should i do?
Yes, did long run/neg split combo Friday after work in one of the Runners Mecca of NY, Rockefeller Preserve a.k.a The Rocky’s ( look it up when you’re in town, Sleepy Hollow): Out 45 min out over hill & dale, carriage paths, farm roads, dirt trail; Back 41 (fairly equal up to down hills). To complete my LONG run after water break, out & back another direction for total of 2 hours…talk about tired!!!
QotD: I raced this morning! McKay Hollow Madness 12k trail run. Located on Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville AL. Came away with the win, 1st OA.
Just feels good to be back in the saddle. Raced a 50k, injured in January and it cost me all my February training.
I just layed fown a i started feeling pain in my lower leg i all so have foot drop smh.
12 mile long run on Strava, very windy in New Jersey right now
I have been diagnosed with Lyme. Former athlete and still in my 40’s. My legs twitch and feel “odd” all the time. Sometimes it feels like I’ve ran a marathon if Ive only walked 1/2 mile the day before. Can your place help me? Thanks. I have horrendous pain in my neck/clavicle and even thoracic spine. I believe this is causing my nerve issues in my extremities. Thank you.
Magnesium foot salt baths can be nice and cheap. But there is no evidence that they are working. Warm water or warm water with a little soap would work just as fine.
QOTD: I ran the Marine Corps 17.75k this morning. It was a hard race after flying in from Japan yesterday, but I beat my goal pace by 16 sec/mile. Finished in 1:35:09. I’m looking forward to a half in May.
32k this morning. Thanks for the kudos on Strava. What better way to recover than watching your awesome work.
Last Saturday I ran a fun little 5k road race ( 16:32) and today I ran 12 at a comfortable pace
Long run this weekend. It was tough. Good vlog for me to see today. I hit mile 16 in my long run, and I was done. I could have finished the workout with stops to rest every half mile or so, but I just called it, lengthened out the cool down at a comfortable pace, and took what the day gave me. Didn’t quite get the total mileage I wanted, but it was my first run at pace in a couple weeks due to knee pain. Not perfect, but I’ll take it, and, though I’m tired, I’m not completely buried.
One of my pet peeves are also when people don’t keep their pets on leashes pun intended, it really frustrates me but I always stop tho and face them hhahaha
Been running a long time, have had bumps on my shins for a long time and they dont hurt at all, weird.
Ran 5k road race not prepared for due to mainly interval training with my highschool track team ran a 17:12 and won 13 and under age group
Damn, this is perfect timing lol. I’ve meaning to improve on this particular thing myself
PRd at a 4 mile race today! Then came home and ran another couple miles with my dog.
When I run my lower back starts to hurt anybody know what this is?
i really hope i dont have this, cuz im only 10 and i have the interschool sports carnival in a week and its been hurting for 2 weeks…
I’m a 22 year old man I have symptoms that are common in females. health problems. maybe I’m low testosterone. or a female from birth. I don’t feel like a man.
21km long run yesterday (Sat) after 17km of tough speed (10 of 17) on Friday. I’m hurting this morning.
Have you ever been on a run when your legs feel a bit like jelly and they don’t quite feel like your own?
I use Epsom salts too. Not sure why you don’t hear of more people using it. Great stuff. Side note, I saw a guy going up Morrison on a fat tire bike, rocking out to heavy metal. He was in the tough section at the top. Insane!
TIRED. BACK TO THE FUTURE! Nice throw back comment. I’m heading out for hopefully 21 miles today….great weather here in OHIO.
I get extreme shin pain if I run too frequently, especially in my right. I was sure I was just being a bitch but this is new stuff.
Additionally, on hard CNS days (deadlift/squat) my left leg will go completely numb when running.
Thoughts?
Not really a looong run this week, but anything over an hour feels like a long run to me, so yesterdays an hour and a half run is kind of a long run for me even though the distance covered is not that long. The legs are a little bit tired from upping both intensity and volume lately, probably a no no, but maybe the rules are a bit different when both volume and intensity is pretty low to begin with? Adding some threshold and speed work sure feels good mentally after only shuffling along at a slow pace all last autumn and winter.
Looks like your Recovery routine is on point!
