I just found this recipe tonight. It looks wonderful and I’m going to try it tomorrow once I go to the store! Thank you for sharing a family recipe. Now it will live on in our house!
Cooking this right now and it smells HEAVENLY!!! Thank you for sharing your mother’s recipe!!
Nice recipe, thanks. But, the music is a bit too loud. Sometimes, I missed some words, I could follow it though.
I just made this absolutely delicious God bless your mom thank you
I love chicken cacciatore! I have not made it in awhile. Looks Yummy!
How frequently do I find recipes that do not give the suggested servings. Argh.
My Mickey. My kitchen right now smells so good I’m making Hawaiian chicken recipe thank you for sharing your recipes
I wouldn’t use a cat litter box tool in my food. Just saying. A wood handle spoon has always worked well.
Thank you Soo much for this recipe! I’m Soo going to try this! ❤❤❤ I’m Soo sorry to hear about your Dad, hugs to you Mickey!
Mickey…my condolences to you and your family upon the passing of your dad. And thank you for sharing a piece of your mama with us as well. ❤️
I thought you are not supposed to open the slow cooker so soon! He opened it too many times. Plus more season would be great.
Hi Mickey Could you recommend a substitute for cooking with wine? In some of your recipes you call for wine and I would like to know what I could use in place of the wine.
This is the way my mom made this dish! Sometimes she would add some bell peppers as well. Amazing!
I’m so sorry for your loss of your father Mickey, it’s hard to lose your parents both if mine are gone too! I know this is a little over a year since, but I just wanted to let you know that Families are Forever and Eternal! Love from Phoenix, Arizona
This looks wonderful, just the kind of meals I love to make. Thank you Mickey!
New sub, I make a crock pot chicken cacciatore too in the crockpot. I will try your recipe as well and hope you can stop by my channel sometime. Sorry about your Dad. I lost both of my parents who I was very close to within a year of each other and it is so hard. Thanks for sharing.
The advantage of using a crockpot is not having to bother with stirring and babysitting the meal. Leave it alone!!
I’m going to try this but I’m going to melt mozzarella on top.
I am making this recipe right now in my crockpot. The sauce is amazing! Chicken Cacciatore is one of my favorite dishes. Thank you for sharing!
That scooper can be found at Dollar Tree for one dollar..it is not a kitty litter scooper and is a great utensil for dishes like this and other things. Be nice
This looks quite delicious. I like all the veggies that go in it. I’d smother it in parm cheese just to defeat the purpose lol.
Can you use boneless skinless chicken breast for this dish.?
Mickey, I am a new subscriber! This looks so delicious…I can’t wait to make it for my family. I would be interested in any and all recipes you’d be willing to share. Best wishes, Kim
Made this tonight and my husband loved it! Different from my moms because she didn’t put peppers in it. We gave some to our 84 year old neighbor snd he enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely be making it again and again.
In Italy we don t make Pollo alla Cacciatora like that at all!!!
My Grandma used rooster or older chickens for this….but you did it, just like my GM except she uses tomatoes from her garden…
Looks good and all, but I would put vegetable son top and wash season the chicken up then put it in the pot.
Dear Mickey. Just watched your video and I can’t wait to make it. I’m knew to your channel and want to send my condolences. I am so sorry for your loss. May your dad Rest In Peace. I also want to tell you how much of an inspiration you are. I am getting myself better organized. Thank you so much.
Looks wonderful! I’m gonna make tomorrow. Thank you for sharing! I am so sorry about your dad. <3
Love this recipe. Going to make this with my family and friends. Probably good with a side of pasta.
Thanks Chef Billy Parisi for taking the time to research and document this insanely wonderful Authentic Chicken Cacciator (Hunter) Recipe. I’ve been inspired by your video & recipe and plan to make this today for the family. Thanks for sharing how you fabricating a whole chicken and build favors from start to finish in this wonderful braised dish. Keep up the Good Work and love your Passion!
OMG! Eric….. That Chicken Cacciatore looks super delicious that’s one of my favorite meals tastes even better the following day great cook brother. From Dad (Stephen) have a wonderful weekend you and your family.
you lost me at boneless skinless chicken breasts. 3 strikes.i might try it with chicken thighs, bone in and skin on.
I make this often I put a little tomato paste and mushrooms in there. Also like to make this with wild turkey thighs.
Iam getting ready to make some “chicken cacciatore “in a slow cooker & it has been a while since I have made some & you were not “bashful” in this video!
I’m kind of thinking that your new kitchen tool looks like it was made for cleaning out a litter box. But hey, if it works… it works.
Dear Mickey, when I saw your chicken cacciatore video go up, I couldn’t wait to watch it bc I’m so excited to try it. It feels like a gift from you bc I know how much you treasure your mother’s recipes. So thank you & I promise to tell you how it turns out when I make it next week. Also, even though I knew your dad was ill, I wasn’t prepared to hear that your dad had passed. My heart broke for you. I’m so very sorry. I lost my aunt in April, and I know it’s not the same as losing a parent, but I wanted to tell you how sorry I am from the bottom of my heart. I’m praying for you to find comfort & peace. Also, please know that I think our YouTube community is very special & I wanted you to know that you honestly brighten my days with your videos. Love you bunchesJoanie xo
Thank you again so much for this recipe, Mickey.
I’m so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.
Thanks for sharing the recipe; it looks delicious and I look forward to making it!
So many ppl are commenting on the chicken not being washed. Here in the uk we’re now advised not to wash it because if the water splashes onto surrounding surfaces it can result in food poisoning
Hello Mr
Today is 7/23/20
I got time to make your pita bread.
I just kicked it up a notch. I added 3 TBSP salted butter. then after that I waited 3 hours, I divided the dough into 16 pieces. Then I rolled it, then put them on parchment paper. I rolled it on a surface greased with melted butter instead of a floured surace.
Each one was 60 gram. I was tired
because my R knee & shoulder is artificial. ✟✟✟. I wrapped it with plastic rapp. I woke up after 3 hours
, it was so ready. I turned the oven to 450 degrees F and
then I baked them. The smell was all over.My wife came & got the first 2.
she said they were totally AWESOME.
Thanks for your recipe. Lord be with
you & your family. Godspeed.
Mickey, sending my love & prayers. I’m so sorry for the passing of your Dad. It’s such a hard time to go through. Xo
Mickey, my deepest sympathies. May your fond memories help you and your family cope during this time
I will try this recipe. My kids 13 & 9 are picky….fingers crossed. Great to see your smiling face!!
Mickey, I am so sad to hear about your dad, my condolences to you and your family. Going to try this recipe, it looks lovely and easy to do, thank you
Oh Mickey I am so sorry to hear about your father. Hugs and prayers go out to you and your family ❤️
I am so sorry. May your beautiful memories be held in your heart forever. My heart feels for you during this difficult journey.
I hope you are composting those beautiful vegetable scraps.:)
Very wasteful when trimming the veg. Are they supercheap where you are?
Hi Mickey, I just had to leave another comment to say that I have made this recipe twice now, and it has become a favorite in our household. The aroma as it cooks is amazing! I’m so glad that you took the time to share your Mom’s recipe.
If my memory serves me correctly this is a northern Italian Cacciatore.
Southerners prefer anchovies/capers over carrots and celery.
So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I would not open my Slow Cooker as much you keep loosing heat every time you take the lid off. Would also add mushrooms and more spices maybe some red wine too. The kitchen scooper forget it too clumsy more like a shovel.
OMFG I can’t describe how much I hate capers. Good thing she didn’t add olives. ☹️
Is this an ld video, or has she not aged at all in the past 10 years?
Did you buy the scooper in the pet section cos, and it might be just me I’m thinking it’s a kitty litter shovel
I am so sorry about the loss of your father. I understand how it feels to lose parents. I am sending up prayers for your family. Btw, that recipe looks yummy and was so easy!
Wow! You are hot. I’ll watch again and watch the food cooking this time. The food looks great. I want to try. Thanks. Subbed.
Love, love, love this so much!!! Thanks Billy. We’re big fans of Pollo alla Cacciatora in my house. Please keep up bringing the authentic recipes, it’s fine to have our own take on recipes, but when someone calls a rocket-pesto, Chimichurri or offers me parsley for a pizza Margherita instead of basil, I just say no, no… Big NO! That actually happened to me in LA, and almost fainted I love this recipe so much, thanks!!!
Brown the chiken b4!
Also, to me Slow Cooker means fill it up, turn it on, walk away for several hrs and eat. Sorry, not my way of Crockpotting…
Thank you for sharing your Mom’s recipe!! I’ll be making this during the week & so sorry for your loss
Well Done video… You are very likeable as well. I’m giving this recipe a try… Thank You
I agree that we are losing the heritage recipes, I have been cooking for 40 years and love the classics!
Those are horrible “grocery store” tomatoes.
Fresh from the garden tomatoes should always be used for this recipe or canned if necessary.
It looks so delicious! that looks very easy, i have to try it. thank you
I tried your recipe using Chicken Wings over some egg noodles and it tasted really good. To the mix I had also add 3 Maggie’s Chicken Bouillon cubes.
This looks so good! I can’t wait to try it. If I wanted to use store bought sauce which one would you recommend?
stirring food with a big dog popper scooper! no seasoning and didnt was the chicken!
Does it need any salt or does Italian seasoning have some in it?
Oh Micky, I’m so sorry, my condolences on the loss of your father. I just lost my father in law, suddenly and unexpected, Thursday, June 8th. I love your recipe. I can’t wait to try it.
Looks like it will be a great dinner…but would it be good with mushrooms added?
Looks great! Nice and easy im going to try this thank you!
I have a similar recipe that I use in my slow cooker but I prefer thighs with skin on. The fat and dark meat re part of the flavor.
Dan, I first made your recipe about a year ago and it was SO GOOD that it blew my socks off. I’m from the Northeast where there is a Very Large Italian population, so Lots of Italian restaurants, so I KNOW ITALIAN FOOD.
I totally agree with you that this dish should be cooked longer I prefer 6 hours at low. This is when the flavors Really mix and the meat is so soft just perfect.
Your recipe, as simple as it is, is the BEST caciattore I have Ever tasted, and I’ve tasted quite a few.
Thanks! For this Great Dish!
why don’t people wash their onions???!! they came out of the field!!!!
I’m new to slow cooking. Wondering if you added liquid? I’m worried my food will burn if I don’t add anything.
Just to reiterate…LOW for 5 hours? or high? Because low for 5 hours doesn’t seem like a long time to cook the chicken properly. Just wondering!:)
I just made this….but added a half a container of baby Bella mushrooms….so yummy
LOVE this recipe!! Since I’ve made it, everyone has love it. I make your recipe every month now. Thank you!
this looks great! cringed a little when you were chopping! I said a little prayer for your fingers!
I never thought of cutting onions in half to get the first layer off, i always try too peel and pick at it which just takes too long compared to your method!
for the record your slow cooker has to be more like 6qt, mine is like 4-5 i tried the same proportions you did, after 2 onions, and the 3 peppers i only had room for like 5 tomatoes and maybe 1lb of thighs in mine and i was right at the top
I so sorry to hear of the loss of your father your family is in my prayers for healing. As for the recipe, it looks delicious, must try.
Hi Dan, thanks for sharing this video. I get confused about meat and salt. Some people say you need to always salt your meat before cooking it (whether browning, braising, sautéing) while others do not always seem to salt their meat before cooking it. Is there a way I could better understand if I should salt meat before cooking it? Any advice about this is appreciated. I love chicken thighs too and have a new dutch oven, so hoping to try out this recipe soon!
I Just made you recipe this evening. Also, I bought a timer from Target so that it will turn on sometime before I get home from work.
I use drumsticks, the boys (7,6 and 1) love it! I usually leave it home while i’m at work, no turning needed. Just make sure the lids on tight.
It’s a Henckels chef knife. I’ve had it so long I don’t remember where I got it, but I checked online and Amazon has them if a kitchen store near you doesn’t.
Welcome back, FINALLY! Going through withdrawal here lol. This is a perfect recipe to keep the kitchen cool this hot, hot summer! Especially if you cook the rice in a rice cooker too
i used to do that too. i think people were taught not to waste food, but really, it’s an onion and ya, this is waay faster:)
doesnt make sense to me to put the chicken on top of all of the vegetables and to not even season the chicken
Hey Billy, I really like you, but one thing I have noticed since leaving the states is, that the US is the only country so arrogant that they risk losing these classic recipes. The US population in general, let alone ‘Italian’ Americans or ‘Irish’ Americans are the ones that actually risk losing these recipes. You all are so arrogant as to think that the American version of these recipes are better than the countries of origin. YouTube makes this worse because channels like Binging with Babfuckwit get more views than the people that actually know how to cook. Your recipes are great, by the way, but the majority of people in your genre on youtube are morons.
Thank you Robin this is exactly what I have been looking
for I love what you did with the chicken breast Cannot wait to make it thank you so much
Chicken Cacciatore is a family favorite in my house. I have always just made it up as I go and never felt like I was doing it justice. Now, I have a recipe to follow and it sounds spectacular. I will let you know how it turns out. Good time of year for it, although it is a summer favorite for us too. What side do you serve it with. We pour the juice over mashed potatoes but if you have another suggestion I’ll give it a try. Thank you, Chef.
I hate mushrooms and can’t stand cooked carrots can’t stand them but recipe is great without them. Thanks
This looks like a great slow and low recipe. Cheers, and great review Miss. Happy Anniversary
Sorry for the passing of your dad much blessing to you and your family
I was thrilled to see you had this recipe. We ate this a lot growing up. This is very similar to a venison ossa buco dish I make in the winter. I can’t wait to make this tonight. Thanks for sharing such wonderful recipes Love this channel!
No garlic!?! No red wine? so chicken stock? I cant imagine how this is tasty. To each his own i guess.
Dude, we don’t want a chicken cacciatore recipe that popular in the 16th century haha
Omg use a potato masher to break up tomatoes that is gross using hands.
In Italy we call it “pollo alla cacciatora”.
So I don’t understand why she called it chicken cacciatore.
In case “cacciatora”.
I like how she keeps looking at the camera like she is talking directly to me; no wait I am lying I never took my eyes off those sweet succulent chicken breasts.
Can I use chicken stock or another alternative for the red wine?
❤️ So sorry for your loss. Try to keep Revelation 21:3,4 in mind when possible. Things won’t always be this way. Until then, you are in my prayers.
* Did he seriously just roll up his sleeves and put his hands in the bowl with tomatoes, ew. He probably didn’t even wash his hands before he started cooking. You’d think that someone who has “logged 15 years in the restaurant industry” would know better.
So sorry for your loss.My deepest sympathies are with you.Prayers to you and your family.
Yup… a cat litter scooper. But the food looks really good.
Don’t get mad, but @ 1:44 that does not look like the kind of plastic to use with food and boiling water for any kind of minutes, certainly not 20. Why not just use a glass bowl?
This is a really good cacciatore recipe. I came here after watching Gordon Ramsey’s chicken cacciatore and this Billy Parisi version is so much more authentic and full of flavour.
Made the recepie same day I found your recepie.Actullyfound dry porcine mushrooms in my pantry, score,I did, however add some capers to my pot. Thanks for the great Sunday dinner!♥️
The roasted red peppers is a nice addition. Sorry for your loss.
Perfer this stovetop over oven baked… and instead of rosemary I would use oregano.. Served with polenta. Love the extra mushrooms.
I really love your pot. Very sleek looking. Any way I can get the name of it?
(Nice recipe, by the way)
I didn’t realise there were that many mushrooms in this dish. Will be trying it tonight!
Did this full recipe. It’s awesome. The ‘singing’ part wasn’t a lie
Your so detailed. I follow many chefs but I like you more lol
I do an “instant version” of this in a huge frying pan using ground chicken 98% fat free. I use olive oil Pam, no oil. For spices in addition to oregano I use basil, black pepper, garlic powder, and accent. I throw in a box of pre sliced mushrooms as well. I use a small can of tomato sauce instead of the paste. I can do the whole thing start to finish in 20 minutes. It comes out like thick sloppy joe and can be eaten alone, just like that. Zero Weight Watchers points. All the foods are unlimited.
Marsala and Cacciatore are about 90% similar. If you can do one, you can do the other.
Amazing! Thank you for taking the time to teach us the history of this dish. The recipe looks simply delicious!!! As always you delivered something outta this world!!!!
It looks like a poop scoop for pets sorry But I think it is
That’s not a cat litter scoop it’s for soups and pastas. It’s totally fine.
Really appreciate your effort to present us the authentic recipe. Nothing beats the classics, there’s a reason they have endured and should continue to endure!
Scratch the previous comment I made. You gave us several side ideas after I turned the video back on to watch the tasting. Do you think Quinoa would pair well with it?
IM MAKING THIS…thanks so much for sharing this wonderful recipe
You are NOT suppose to open up tho its kind of the point with a crock pot you know lol.If you do its gonna put you back about 20 minutes just so you know…you put in the food and you walk away and hours later the food is ready for you, thats it.Just saying.
SHE SHOULD BE WEARING MODEST CLOTHES. IS A COOKING SHOW NOT A…………
Hey chef Parisi..I like your rendition of cacciatore….but I am not sure if Hunters would carry celery and carrots with them..I get the wine onion and garlic stuff..had the privilege of eating rabbit cacciatore a few years back in Italy..however your cacciatore does look good☺
I’m going to cook that tomorrow, the only difference is that I’ll wash the chicken before I cook it.
That’s reason Northern Italian girls has smooth skin. & gorgeous Because They use olives
I know this is an older video. But when you take off the lid to a slow cooker it adds about 25 extra minutes to the cooking time….! So just leave the thing alone til it’s closer to the end of the cooking time to lift the lid and check it! I would have put the chicken on top of the onions, then other veggies last on top of that!
Meh, this is not an authentic Italian recipe, you should call it your take of an an Italian classic,
ingredients: Chicken, Tomatoes, Onion, Garlic, Salt, Pepper, Oregano AND THAT’S IT!!, if you want authentic. period…
Dear Mickey I’m so very sorry for your loss even though it was awhile ago. Going to try this delicious recipe tonight as it looks so amazingly yummy. Looks like your momma trained a great cook. God bless
If you simmered for 20 minutes uncovered you’d have no sauce left. Where’s the ending?
Lots of positive energy & prayer for you & your family.i wrote down the Recipe, can hardly wait to try it! God Bless
Now that’s what I’m talking about. Thank you. Can’t wait to make it!
0:25 good God woman did you really have to get in my face like that
Scared the crap out of me
This Chopped parody is so funny haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKjjN0r534E&t=448s
Giada salts each vegetable addition to extract moisture. In every series, vegan cook/chef Christina Pirello regularly salted every vegetable for each to maintain its individual flavor. Ok, I have to ask: Which one is actually true?
Thinking of you Mickey and hoping your sweet memories of your Dad are bringing you comfort. Thank you for this wonderful recipe. My family and I love chicken cacciatore and putting it in the crock pot is a great idea. My recipe is similar to yours and was also passed down from my mom. I will add the sugar next time to add sweetness to the tomatoes. Blessings…
That’s a simple though rustic dish, loved it and will try and it sooner for my family and my BF
This is a family friendly network, one of the few remaining. She needs to show less of her breasts. Believe me, by now, food network viewers have viewed them enough.
