Seated Stretch for the Back, Neck, and Shoulders Shoulder Rolls. Start your de-stress workout with these slow, easy shoulder rolls. Start by shrugging the shoulders up Shoulder and Back Stretch. This stretch may not work for everyon.Shoulder rolls are the perfect exercise for removing accumulated stress and tension in the shoulders and improving the circulation in those joints.
This exercise warms up and stretches the muscles, tendons, and joints and helps reduce pain and stiffness in the shoulder area.Reaching up and over, place your right hand on the left side of your head and gently apply pressure, feeling the stretch through your neck and down your left shoulder. Hold this position for 20 to 30 seconds, making sure to breathe throughout the stretch. Release your hand and slowly bring your head back to center.
Repeat on the other side.Shoulder shrugs are easy to do and are a great exercise option for strengthening your shoulders and other muscles, too. Learn about the benefits, muscles worked, and how to.
Seated rows help strengthen the upper back muscles, especially the rhomboids (shoulder blades). This is another exercise that can be performed with a resistance band. To do the exercise, sit on the floor with your legs extended in front of you and your knees slightly bent. Flex your feet and wrap the resistance band around the arches of your feet.Shoulder Rolls.
Improves the mobility with shoulder shrug. Stabilizes your shoulder blades for heavier lifting. 7. Overhead Press. Improve the ability to safely reach overhead; Stabilizes the back muscles shoulder rehab exercises. Increases the mobility of the shoulder joint.
8. Shoulder Press Lying Down.How-to: Come to a comfortable seated or standing position and slide your shoulder blades down away from your ears and together toward your spine.This stretch makes a nice compliment to neck rolls and helps to strengthen the rhomboid and pectoral muscles. Sit up straight and touch your fingertips to.
Ear toward shoulder. The following two exercises really help loosen a stiff neck. While facing front, slowly tilt your head to the right side. Roll your left shoulder back and down, then stretch your left arm downward.
Hold the stretch for 5 seconds. Slowly come back up to center. Repeat on the other side. Repeat 2-4 times.Bend your left elbow and place the hand by your left shoulder.
Press through your left hand to roll your body over your right shoulder. Bend your left knee and place the foot on the floor behind your right leg, with your knee pointing up. Hold for 30-60 seconds, then slowly roll back to your belly and switch sides.
Try to hold your shoulders still when turning your head.Make sure you bring your ear to your shoulder and not your shoulder to your ear. Take it up a notch Hold on to the chair seat when performing the side-bend to increase the stretch.Fix achy shoulder pain with these feel-good stretches you can do anywhere. Sitting at a desk all day, looking down at your computer or phone, lifting heavy things at work, and having an unbalanced exercise program (e.g., doing too many pushups and not enough rows) are just a few of the things that can cause poor posture and tight shoulders. NECK EXERCISES Warmup Backwards Shoulder Rollsx 10.Pull-ups or seated rows – People with access to gym equipment can benefit from doing pull-ups or seated rowing with moderate weights. These exercises build.Let your arms reach towards the floor, so the weight of your upper body is gently hanging. Take a few breaths in and out in this position, then roll up slowly, one vertebra at a time and lift your head last.
Benefits: This stretch uses gravity to release pressure on your head, neck, shoulders and back.

I’ve had pains in my neck and shoulders for a few weeks now and those pains from my neck feel as if they trigger migraines and it is super painful, and if I get my mom to massage my shoulders I can barely even handle it. This didn’t help me. I’ve recently been getting horrible neck pains, shoulder pains, spine and bottom of my back pains. I’ve also been getting pains on my knee caps and my elbows. I’ve been getting headaches, feeling dizzy or faint. And sick. I don’t know what it is but it’s horrible and I can’t sleep.

Hey Michelle…not sure if you will see this, but I have been doing this kind of slouch forward/pull head towards chest stretch for the back of my neck and upper back for years and something really odd happens when I do that I thought you may find interesting or be able to explain. So, I most often just do it at my desk when I’m seated where I grab the crown of my head with both hands and pull both forward and down at the same time…my chin touches my chest and I continue to pull, but it’s more just the weight of my arms bringing my forehead further down towards my mid-line. I also sort of have a slouched posture with my back so my spine is curved outward I’m very into Olympic weightlifting so my posterior chain is very developed and essentially always tight. Also, I’m 6’5″ tall and about 265lbs solid with 105/65’ish blood pressure. Additionally, during routine physicals throughout my life, doctors have always commented on the fact that my abdominal aorta is legitimately huge…my heartbeat is totally visible in my upper abdomen when I’m laying down.
ANYWAYS, a few seconds into this stretch, I start to feel very intense heat in my solar plexus area/chest/upper back….not just warmth, but within about 10-15 seconds, my entire upper body is on fire…but inside. It’s definitely not uncomfortable..in fact It feels amazing, but the heat is always what causes my to stop the stretch as it radiates into my belly. It’s really difficult to explain exactly how hot it feels, but I guess it’s similar to how a hot tub that’s a bit too hot feels on the skin. Also, when I stop the stretch completely, and resume my regular sitting posture/position, I get a pretty substantial rush of euphoria that lasts roughly 10-20 seconds…I feel a bit happier than my baseline for an additional ten minutes or so. I know this kind of stretch would allow the posterior portion of the vertebrae to “lift off” each other and ostensibly increase blood-flow in that general area…and obviously the euphoria is just an influx of oxygen to the brain, because this feels somewhat similar to the Wim Hof style breathing exercises I do. I should also note that I did this stretch when I was a skinny young man in college so I don’t think it’s because of being overly tight from training…it felt the same when I didn’t train at all.
Sorry, that was a more thorough an explanation than I initially intended here, but I felt maybe more context wouldn’t hurt. I guess my question is just have you heard of this kind of thing happening with this kind of stretch? I’ve had several friends and training partners try this stretch, but none of them have felt any kind of a heat sensation in their upper body while doing it.
Appreciate any insights you have about this tremendously.

lay on your front and bend your knee to stick your foot in the air. you can tilt your foot around a little while its up. then switch to the other leg. this one ive used for years to help when my shoulder and neck are super tight.

Do you have stretches for bigger person, its really hard to do some of the leg ones, or just do what I can for now? I will definitely try to make this a part of my daily routine. My problem areas are my knees, shoulders and hands due to pain and weakness from Polymyositis and Lupus. What do you recommend for tightness in the hands and wrists? I have been dealing with tightness and stiffness in my hands for the longest time. I am not able to put my hands flat on the floor or flat against a wall because of the pain and tightness I feel in my palms and wrist.

Dr. Jo, I thought I would give you an update on how my therapy is going with my left knee and back. It was going great and I felt really good and no swelling. Last Thursday and Friday I did some gardening for a couple hours each day. My knee blew up to three times the size on Friday night into Saturday. I did some therapy Saturday with the pain and major swelling. Yesterday was a little easier. I called my Orthopaedic Team to get an appointment for my second Cortisone injection with lidocaine for this Wednesday.

I am not sure if you or anyone else will see this but if you do I would love to know if this is normal. I did suffer from a shoulder issue that they never figured out what it was, but I had these issues long before that. I have so much tension in my shoulders that I can not relax them to a normal place at all. I also am unable to move my neck in a full circle and come close with my ear to my shoulder. I commonly deal with back pain and frequent large painful muscles knots. Any advice or video recommendations? Thanks!

I immediately search YouTube for any sort of advice on what to do for upper back sprain and came across you guys. I did every stretch, excluding the last one. I do not have the s shaped equipment. the lacross ball is fantastic im using a toy rubber ball its size of a satsuma got that thing rolled around my shoulder my lawd felt good straight away but still have a niggle in my shoulder i think its my bicep tendon because i can do lateral raises, shoulder press. im currently going on a no fap experiment to see if rubbing one out too much is causing bicep tendon issue.
Thank you for these. I have a spot that Iguess is a knot right by my shoulder blad and when I press it I feel it go into my head and sometimes I get headaches if it is too tight. When I do the chin tug and put my head to that side I feel pain in my head. What do you suggest?

mam i really loved your vedio. i was suffering from neck stiffness from so many years and contacted so many doctors. nothing worked. by doing exercises from this i got relived with in two minutes due to ur exact clarity of motions and instructions.
Well these stretches help me when I work out as well? Because not only do I love singing, I also want to work out to stay in shape but I don’t wanna mess up my vocal cords or tense my neck up to where I can’t sing as well or sing while dealing with discomfort.

its great, i just need a different chair for it. But i really notice how tight my muscles are with that last one. it feels like i still cant fully relax my shoulders. i still feel my muscles pulling on my arm. i take several deep breaths and feel it loosen up a bit, but never completely.
I have the same thing in bed. I can’t seem to fully relax my muscles (not sure how it all works, I am burned out and depressed and anxious so that probably has something to do with it. but i have headaches so often and feel the muscles in my neck being tight the whole time so i rlly needed to find some exercises. thanks)

Hi Michelle, I am having stiff neck (joint of neck and skull) several times in a day. Specially after working on laptop or mobile even when they are at eye level. It started with a burning sensation on back of skull about 4 months ago. My head and neck MRIs have been done. Head MRI is normal and the neck MRI is showing slight bulge in outer layer (C4-C5 region). According to the doctor it’s nothing serious but as it’s being a long time, I am worried how is it going to cure. Could you please recommend some good stretching and how often I need to repeat them?
what do you mean discomfort exactly when doing stretches? I can feel my sore muscle when doing these for sure

Guys stop breaking your necks with these exercises. I went to the pharmacy they gave me magnesium and some muscle relief pills. Explain your issue to your pharmacist they will tell you what to take according to what you have in your country. I suffered for 4 days. After taking those Medecines, I got relief within minutes. The next day I even forgot about my neck problem.
i have something that is blocking blood flow in my right arm and that exercise with elbows against the wall really helped i can feel some blood in my arm rushing towards my hand

I was just stretching my neck before waking up and then I listen a Crack in my neck. And I can’t turn my head to the left side because it hurts to much, I can’t lift it down or up. Do you have any good exercise for that please?
When I move my neck in complete circle for dance, I lose my balance next movement n feel as if everthing is rotating.This happen just for 1 or 2 seconds.Others in my dance class do not face such problem.When I rotate my head during yoga, I dont face this problem as the pace is slow but in dance I have to be quick. What exercise should I do to overcome this and rotate my head easily?

Great update from the previous routine! My neck pain has been getting worse the past few months, and I’ve finally been able to experience some relief from following your other video every day for the past week.
Being health conscious, I don’t want to take the allopathic medicines for my Shoulder stiffness. Then on searching I found herbal remedies of Planet Ayurveda. I follow them and used their medicines and got relief. I am fine now. Thanks to Planet Ayurveda.
