Green Beans Almondine is a classic side dish recipe that can easily be made ahead or quickly thrown together in under 20 minutes! Fresh green beans are sautéed in a skillet with butter and garlic and topped with lemon juice and toasted almonds. They’re a great gluten-free, vegetarian, and low-carb side dish the whole family will love.Warm a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
When the skillet is hot, pour in canola and sesame oils, then place whole green beans into the skillet. Stir the beans to coat with oil. Cook until the beans are bright green and slightly browned in spots, about 10.When the butter is melted, add the garlic and stir until fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the green beans, soy sauce, sesame seeds, and black pepper and saute until the sauce.
Ingredients 1 lb French green beans (haricot verts), trimmed 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/4 heaping cup raw sliced almonds 2 medium shallots, finely diced 2 medium garlic cloves, finely minced zest of one small lemon 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice kosher salt freshly ground black pepper. We’re going to use this to make the toasted almonds, and later to stir fry the green beans. Melt a little butter in with the bacon, add the sliced almonds, and saute for a few minutes, until they are golden.
Add the garlic.Cook 1 pound trimmed, halved green beans in salted boiling water until tender, 3 minutes. Drain; rinse under cold water. Saute 1/4 cup sliced almonds in butter in a.
Add green beans, salt and sesame seeds to the wok. Stir fry 3-4 minutes, pressing beans against side of pan so they char in places. Combine sesame oil and soy sauce.
Add to pan along with the garlic from earlier.Add green beans to a microwavable dish and cook for 6-8 minutes. In a large saute pan add oil and garlic and mix well. Add in the cooked green beans and soy sauce and cook for 5 minutes.
Take off the heat and add the sesame oil and almonds and mix well.Bring a cup of water to a boil in a large skillet. Add the green beans and cover for 4-5 minutes, just until they’re crisp-tender. Drain beans in a colander and set aside.
Melt 1/4 cup of butter in the same skillet, add your almonds and saute them for a few minutes until they start to brown.Shallots and garlic kick up the green beans’ flavor, toasted pecans add crunch and fiber, and center-cut bacon lends a salty punch without tons of sat fat. Last but not least, utilizing the rendered bacon grease in the skillet eliminates the need for butter.
Try one of our variations: Red Pepper and Pesto Green Beans, Ginger-Sesame Green.Heat oil in the pan on medium heat, and add the garlic and ginger. Stir for 30 seconds then add the green beans. Stir so the garlic is coating the beans.
Pop the lid.In the same skillet you toasted almonds in, melt butter over medium heat. Add in shallot, and saute until just softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add green beans and toss to coat. Give the beans a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and season with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt to taste.
Saute until warmed through, about 3-5 minutes.

Why are humans so callous? Would you like it if vegetables ganged up and threw you into boiling water?
Chef john, wouldn’t it taste better if you put in some kinda vinegar in it? Since this a bean dish with quite much fat some kinda contrast with an sour tasting thing would fit perfect, dont you think?
!!!!!! I am eating this right now. THANK YOU! It’s amazing. I didn’t have an onion and only had ground thyme and bottled lemon juice. I can’t wait to try it again with the right ingredients.
It totally does look like someone jizzed on that at the end. Lol
Watch this Video Recipe for an Easy and Delicious Side Dish! Di 😉

Love green beans but not a fan of blue cheese or melted feta cheese, any recommendations on another cheese that would go well with this? Love all your vids!!:)
nah its roasted garlic. Its sweet and delicious. I have roasted garlic bulbs for other recipes and eaten a whole bulb by itself while cooking!
If it was fresh garlic it would be way too overpowering.
“Bob’s your uncle” is someone else’s saying. Be your own person. You are SO annoying. You’re no chef.
this Chef John is obviously a Chef. Only guy chefs like to cook this much and do it for a living, too.
5:11 “If you have kids, if they’re younger, just chop them up into little small pieces.”
I just found your channel, I love it! Especially the different snacks!! I’m gonna make that granola!!❤
This is something my family makes every year as a side dish at Christmas and I love it! Thanks for the recipe:)
I have no idea how this came about but my dogs LOVE green beans in all forms. ❤
Not a fan of green beans but I love almonds, garlic, and blue cheese so this may get me me to eat my green beans.
maybe I’ll actually start learning how to cook with this videos
Dam his food always makes me so hungry but we never have any of the ingredients to prepare the food.
Boy that seems like an awful lot of garlic for one dish. Don’t get me wrong I come from long line of Italians and love garlic. But 3 bulbs? wasn’t it too strong?
Chef John, almonds are not nuts. They are the seed of a fruit.
With ONE exception-frying with an open pan where the food spits oil. Sizzle!
poutine is so easy to make i mean there’s fries cheese and gravy… just go to Canada, Quebec for the best poutines in the world!:)

NO freakishly small spoon nor spatula. NO ol’ tapa-tapa. Must be new year!
Funny how Prepon have the word “prep” in every video. Intended?
This looks quick and easy to do thank you for sharing Laura
I’m a bit too old to say this but here goes:
I found this remarkably easy to masturbate to.
That’s just it. It’s not an error. It’s a matter of preference. These so called “erroneous bastardization” is how language evolve and make its way across different cultures. Anywhoo, time to move on girl…
I love how you use everything! Like when I watch cake shows and I see people just throwing away the excess cake, I get so sad:(
I made this for some friends tonight and everyone agreed it was delicious. We went into a food coma.
ive never made this, i love easy veggie side dishes ❤️ congrats on your pregnancy news! Im very happy for you and your husband.
Man, Chef John’s voice is so pleasant to listen to.
He needs to do some voice work on the side!
Love it. “Wudder” Are you from Philadelphia? Making this for Turkey Day today. big hugs.

Like piper Chapman said
Oh god I can almost smell the garlic. Also I love green beans. This looks amazing.
Please make a brocolli side dish which is as easy as this one!
Hey Laura do you have any recipes of veggie based yogurt? Love your videos!:D
Love watching your videos. I’m a chef, and I blanch my green beans for 3 minutes too! Just wanted to let you know, you can shock your veggies in ice water and skip the baking soda so it doesn’t kill the Vitamin C, D, and B1. https://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2013/09/28/does-baking-soda-destroy-nutrients-vegetables/CIrZPOc5Fyxc5JEzs04wdM/story.html
You are the boss of your nuts!… except when the wife is around lol
I really hope that if society breaks down, I get to be the chef in whatever rag tag township forms
Hello, thank you for this wonderful recipe! We made it today and if was absolutely delicious. Quick question, how long can it be stored in the fridge? Thank you.
I think i will try it, i like greenbeans and nuts. Its a simple recipe.thank you
I had NO IDEA about the baking soda hack, definitely adding it next time!!
judging by your post alone, i can tell you probably think fast food is delicious and good for you.
I’m starting to wanna tryna make prep recipe now, those look good!!!
I love these videos for simple yet flavorful dishes like these because I always have shoyu, mirin, dashi, etc. and it gives me new ideas! With the cold weather starting soon, will you be making oden? I would like to see your personal recipe! Thanks for your great videos!
Laura com você um copo com água vira uma maravilha dos Deus! Mulher tudo que você faz arrasa!! Brasil quer muito você em uma palestra de culinária! Por favor vê há ao Brasil
beautiful presentation and nice background music. I will try this green beans recipe for my dinner tonight, looks delicious
Thank you! really simple and looks good. Will try it for New Year’s Eve dinner.
Cooked this for my family tonight and was a huge hit.
Thank you
Does how much baking soda you put in the water depend on how many green beans you’re boiling?
What the fuck is wrong with you? Chef John is married you idiot.
Congratulations on your 2nd baby!! Love green beans! Great video!
My mom introduced me to this when I was a teenager and now my 6 year old won’t eat green beans unless they have almonds! I use french cut green beans, sauteed, then added sliced almonds toasted in the broiler
Woah you’re telling me there’s an entire series dedicated to Laura Prepon making food and I didn’t know about it?!
I love this combination of flavours! Can’t wait to try this! Thanks!
xo @TheHotPlate1
Isn’t she a Scientologist? That means she believes in evil space clams.
I LOVE how rough and mean she played on oitnb compared to how she is in real life she literally apologized for eating her own food. I know it’s while recording so she doesn’t wana seem unprofessional or whatever but it was honestly so adorable and made me melt. She’s truly an amazing actress because I could never imagine this sweet lady playing an ex drug lord amazing, and them green beans look fire!!! loved this video lol
I wish her hair was red again. I know her red hair was just for the 70s tv show but i really liked her look as a redhead:)
i just started watching that 70’s show and this showed up in my recommendations omg
Instead of adding baking soda… maybe try salt? The color effect should be the same and you ensure that they’re seasoned inside and oht
John-iLiciois! You are the boss of your nuts!!!! Lol! So funny and cute!!
Goes good with Ham steaks & Au gratin potatoes,
Irish beer.!!
Love it how entertaining yet practical your videos are chef!
“tablespoon of oil” my a**, that’s more like half the bottle:D
What a great video and beautiful presentation for fresh green beans! I often gloss over fresh green beans at the market, simply because they’re boring to me. But this dish! It’s far from boring! It’s definitely one that I’d try in a heartbeat! I do have one question though. I’m allergic to alcohol in the raw form. I know that mirin has alcohol in it, and I’m afraid to use it, without cooking out the alcohol first. I wonder, if by “cooking” out the alcohol, before adding it to the shoyu and sesame…..would it change the flavor?
Chef John question, could you do a poutine recipe. Pretty please?
I’ve tried this recipe, turned out super yummy. My daughter made her best thumbs up along with her toes together.
I luv Preppy girl but Hon, your taste in food…. sigh…. sucks!
Prep some Pork chops bone in!
Love the baking soda trick congrats on your pregnancy love you lots xx
The first time I ever roasted garlic, it was so pungent while being pressed out that I got fairly sick and I haven’t done it since. I love garlic, but I’ll probably never roast any again…
This looks tasty though, I’ll have to sub it out or something. ^-^
You’re terrific, Laura! I love your videos. Greetings from Israel
this is a good thanksgiving side dish. i usually have asparagus or brussel sprouts. i need more yam or sweet potato recipes.
Are Girls the Boss of their Nuts too? Or are they just nuts?
“boss of your nuts” “there has to be a reason to tap that”
chef john, you and your subtle sex jokes in this video xD
Is the beans cooked enough? Or is it slightly raw and crunchy
Love you so much!!
Your such an amazing actor. And Cook congratulations on being a mom again. All the best to you
Mmmmmmm That look mmmmm Laura is time that Wii alle come by jour home for dine thanks for sharing #GetyourPrepOn with lovely Laura Laura tomorrow is my birthday
blue cheese scares the shit out of me. Im gonna try this with camembert instead
Platy, you disappoint! (JK, tehe). If you substitute, I’d recommend using something much sharper than Camembert. Something like a Mizithra would kickass here.
Once i was really sick because of rosted garlic, since then i can’t eat them, see them or even smell them… Too bad
Okay, I am a chef , and I have never heard or seen anyone using baking soda in the water for veg.. wow. That’s awesome. Never thought of it, but it literally makes complete sense. This dish is wonderful. My husband and the kids will love it. Thank you, sis! ♥️ God bless you and your loved ones. You are phenomenal. I am 31, and grew up watching you. Back in the 90’s, Never did I think you’d be on a video site peeping food ! Keep up the good work.
I like the appropriate Halloween message telling people “if you have kids chop them up into little small pieces” 5:10 or did I miss hear it?
“hey guys”… getting closer and closer to be a standard meta youtuber, nice.
Laura, regarding this recipe, I use garlic and dill or parsley, instead of nuts (my husband is allergic to nuts). The cruished garlic is mixed separately with salt, oil and water or soup. But I think you know that recipe too and I do not insist.
Yesterday, I recived your book, I browsed it and I think it will be a fascinating study. It’s something else, I didn’t expect it! Congrats and all my admiration for your Mother. I will apply “The Stash Plan”!
In point of fact, “almondine” is most assuredly an erroneous bastardization of the original “amandine.” I consulted my own Merriam-Webster dictionary, and it is noted that “amandine” is often *misspelled* as “almondine” in AE. I’m not sure what edition you are consulting, but I personally think your snark was a bit uncalled for, considering I was polite and respectful in pointing out the error… If you’re going to “derive” a new term from French, then just say “with almonds.”:)
I love this recipe…I bought your book last year and this is the one I’ve made often, because in Italy I can’t find all the ingredients of other recipes.
Very informative tutorial that doesn’t waste time and gets to the point but still highlights the beauty of cooking and the food being prepared. Thanks!
