In fact, according to the data, the number of serious and catastrophic head and neck injuries from failed acrobatic cheerleading stunts are increasing every year. Most cheers now involve complicated choreography that includes tossing people into the air, back-flips, tall human pyramids, and other dramatic and risky acrobatic stunts. Some of the most commonly reported injuries often the result of falls, dismounts, and weight -bearing stunts are to the ankle, knees, back, wrist, and hands. In fact, Harris say.Researchers have found that the most common injuries among young cheerleaders were strains and sprains, which make up 52 percent of cheerleading injuries.
Bruising, fractures, cuts and concussions are also reported, but to a lesser extent. Hancock, now a freshman at Ohio State University, said she and her cheer team often endured painful wounds.Studies show that cheerleaders at the base of stunts are at the highest risk for concussions because other people can fall on them.
Flyers, or those at the top of stunts, are also at risk for concussions, especially if they fall or are dropped. Concussions are a serious injury that carry potential for long-term problems.Cheerleading stunts pose an increased risk for injury, especially in terms of sustaining a concussion or CHI. Spotters and bases were most likely to be injured during the performance of cheerleading stunts and were at risk for sustaining strain and sprain injuries.Concussions were the most common cheerleading injury, accounting for about 31% of all injuries, according to a recent study.
Most head injuries in cheer occur while stunting (96%) and are the result of a fall, with practice being more dangerous than competitions, perhaps due to the fact that cheerleaders are learning and trying new stunts during practice.Injuries sustained outdoors involved extreme heat in 8% (7/87) of cases, extreme cold in 2% (2/87) of cases, and gusty winds in 1% of cases (1/87). Most of the injuries occurred when the injured cheerleader was attempting a stunt (52%, 296/565) or tumbling (26%, 149/565).
The ACL or the Anterior cruciate ligament in knee have the highest risk of strain with an off-balance landing from jump. Though the ankle and knee sprains are most common injuries in cheerleading, the most dangerous cheerleading injuries of concern are the injuries to head and neck.According to a 2013 Washington Post article, cheerleading was the cause of more than half of the “catastrophic injuries to female athletes. This includes skull fractures, cervical spine injuries, brain injury or concussions, paralysis, and death.
Common injuries include plantar fasciitis, patellar tendonitis, ankle sprains, stress fractures, hip strains, and inflammation around the hips. The most serious injuries typically are the results of stunting, though some come from jumps and other tumbling. Besides immediate injuries, cheerleading can have long-term effects on the body as well.Cheerleading Injuries On The Rise October 9, 2008 / 7:57 AM / CBS Cheerleading may look like a lot of fun, but it’s a sport that’s injuring a lot of girls. While ankle sprains are most common, sprains can also occur in the knees, wrists, neck and back.
Back injuries are also common in cheerleading, largely from tumbling and stunts. Back injuries can be caused by twisting and rotating in stunts or tumbling passes and from lifting, catching, or falling during stunts.Harris says cheerleading injuries are usually far more serious than those in “officially recognized sports” because this “activity” doesn’t always get the support it deserves.
The most catastrophic injuries involve the brain and spinal cord in the form of traumatic brain injuries and spinal injuries that result in temporary or permanent paralysis. These injuries have been on the rise due to the growing popularity of cheerleading and the increasing complexity of the stunts being performed.Basic and Advanced Cheerleading Stunts. The level of cheerleading motions toward the high jumps varies and restrict to some extent to the schools, for example, the junior school’s cheerleaders are not allowed to perform difficult stunt due to the risk of injury, same goes to high school and so on.
Anyway, the advance cheers stunts are mainly.

When I was in highschool one of the cheerleader got hurt during practice and the other cheerleaders thought she died cause she wasn’t moving. She was in the hospital for a long time and had to wear a halo for a long time after that. She still played sports after that.
so technacly wat ur trying to say is use mats and get certified u could have just said that
Sad,none the less. Glad that she didn’t suffered a more severe injury, but, let’s be honest. This is just a preamble to what they really are after… $,$$$.$$ more power to them..good luck
cheer is a very competitive sport, it’s fun, but it’s getting more and more challenging every year. people should respect cheer more. people say “cheer isn’t a sport” it’s not on the sidelines but in comp it’s harder then football. (my opinion)
“and you saw some of those tumbles”? thats not what they’re called, its called stunts. you’re a doctor, not a professor on cheerleading. know your facts before you start blurting out accusations and using words that you don’t know the meaning of.
HATE IT I GOT INJURED ALOT IN CHEER I WAS IN CHEER SINCE 1 STILL LEARNING BACK ROUNDOFF BACKFLIP ARIEL REST EASYCHEER IS A SPORT
@missoreoluvr Go to a cheer competition, we have more fans than a football team 😉 You might be referring to the spirit team, in that state, theyre not a sport. Enter competitive cheerleading, and they are. Look it up. Top Gun Level 5 then talk crap that you don’t know about.
When I’m watching football idgaf about some random dancers on the sideline
@Droolbaby It’s funny that we’re a “dance performance” when 10 seconds of our routine is dance….and the rest of it is busting our asses.
You think a gymnast would be given a good score for falling off the balance beam or a cheerleader would be given good marks if she went to far left or to far right. You think a dancer will be given good marks if shes turning and she keeps hopping about the stage NO they would be marked down but if they do it perfectly and land on the beam stay in the lines they have to and not hop around while doing turns than they will be given good marks. Cheer is a sport just like football is.
To all football players out there who don’t respect their cheerleaders FREAK YOU! Bc whenever you guys get pushed down the cheerleaders get on their knees. But y’all are too stupid enough to be respectful to the cheerleaders to stop the game and get on ur knees! SO DISRESPECTFUL
damn, today i nearly broke my neck cheerleading doing the cradle, how?
the two base girls who were lifting me up went up at different times making me uneven so i fell to the side, the back support continued to hold my ankles as I fell so i went head first, lucky i put my head up.
Cheerleading, ok stop females like that and they are not even going to listen to you all!!!! I am a cheerleader and I am not going to listen!!!! you idiots
I believe you are exactly right. In effect, Cheerleading is as physical as most any other sport. When people say cheerleading is not a sport, they may mean that it is a highly physical activity which is not done competitively and is therefore not a competition (sport= competitive physical activity) like yoga or working out for fun. But, as there are many competitions, it is completely a sport. Two Thumbs Up!
I’m a gymnistc I dislocated my kneecap in second level and are not gymnastics
Cheerleading is safe I do it, you have to have good bases and trust them
Cheerleading is a sport. We work at the same level as football players. Maybe even harder
I am Korean and i think Koreans are gald not to do cheerleading
It’s a shame that she got hurt but the idea that they should have stopped the game is ridiculous how many times has a player been hurt just as bad or worse it’s just the game
Cheerleaders are just mascots for football players? Are you kidding me? Please go look up Kentucky Wildcats. Then go watch teams from Cheer Extreme, California Allstars, Maryland Twisters, Top Gun, ACE, Brandon Allstars, Spirit of Texas, Twist & Shout, and World Cup. After you do that then we can deebate about whether or not cheerleaders are “just mascots” for football.
@thefunchick11 Research competitive cheerleading. It’s a sport. And we don’t scream, we yell, we don’t just jump around(which isn’t as easy as it looks, try a triple toe back tuck), we tumble, we don’t just lift eachother up, we save eachother’s lives cuz one wrong move could be a paralyzation or death. You should try it or go to a competitive cheer practice to see what it takes. We are scored on perfection. Every little point counts. We go up against other teams. Therefore, we are a sport.
THE ONLY READON THE PERCENTAGES ARE SO HIGH IS BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY ONLY ACCOUNTED FOR GIRLS AND MOSTLY GIRLS DO CHEERLEADING INSTEAD OF A REAL SPORT
If people declare cheerleading a sport there would be more rules and regulations. NSA bans alot of things such as no braced flips. if it was accually known as a sport nationwide there would be more certified coaches and less injuries. cheerleading is a very demanding and physical sport if you dont have the proper techniqe you could get hurt badly ive cheered for 3 years and ive broken my hand, thumb, wrist, and sprined my back.
Cheerleaders are paid $8/hr… isn’t that sad? Players are paid millions but cheerleaders just pennies!
I don’t understand how people could not acknowledge cheerleading as a sport like I deadass respect cheerleaders bcos of how hard they train and constantly get injured yet people still look down on them
All the respects to Cheerleaders
They literally risk their lives for ever game
And to the people that doesn’t pay attention to the cheerleaders while games, you guys need to respect and thank them 24/7 from now on for making games more interesting and exciting
What do she mean it’s part of the sport and they have to take it like her neck looks like it’s of her neck
@gymnast71858 I’d LOVE to see you base or fly a rewind, ball up, switch up,bow and arrow, hold your leg up without your hands in a heel stretch, stick a stunt even if your bases barely have your foot because if you fall, that could cost your team a national title and money. Until you’ve actually DONE a level 5 or 6 stunt, then shut your mouth. We make it look easy. We had a high level gymnast on my open team, and most of the level 6 stunts we were doing, she was scared to do.
My problem is that it says girls most dangerous sport and boys litteraly invented it
It pisses me off that in spite of the risks taken by cheerleaders, with the amazing jumps, lifts, tosses, and pyramids they do, cheerleading is still not considered a sport especially on the high school and college level where the hours they practice equal or exceed other sports. The reason given for cheerleading not being a sport is: “Cheerleading is not commonly considered a sport because of the inability to compete against an opponent.” Cheer leading competitions are incredible. They already exist. Those girls and boys are as competitive as any athletes playing sanctioned sports. If it were classified a sport, high schools and colleges could have fantastic competitions with points given for difficulty ratings for each accomplished jump etc with required lifts etc needing to be done.
I am a cheerleader on a level 5 team and I got a minor skull injury by doing a half turn lib cradle from extension and btw I am a front base
I’m seeing a lot of comments and they’re very divided among cheer isn’t a sport/ is a sport. Me, a cheerleader, i think unless you can’t do or attempt what we do don’t say anything. We are factually, now considered a sport. We tumble like gymnast and stunt like acrobats. Especially my bases. They use a whole lot of their strength to hold me in the air for a good amount of time, 150 or 100 above their heads. Especially during a one man.
The reason why people don’t respect it is simple, a sport where you cheer on people playing a sport is boring if your not doing it. Not to mention a sport where ur looks and body image means as much as ur dancing/cheer stunts abilities seems to take away from the sport when ugly women or women with any fat can’t do it lol?
i am a cheer leader and i broke my arm leg ankle elbow and separated a rib
You guys trippin if you ain’t calling this a sport. This shit crazy AF. But i also have a massive fear of heights. Can’t even rock climb 2ft with feeling like im dying
“who are expectsd to catch their peers”
yeah there are 13 year olds doing the same stunts at 20 year olds, ya know?
my old coach was on this team and he told us about this and they had to keep on going on since a lot of people were getting injured
If your flyer is falling DONT GO AFTER HER FEET HER HEAD NECK AND SHOULDERS ARE MORE IMPORTANT
@goofy12310 I was dropped on my head, wasn’t breathing, almost was paralyzed, and had a headache for two weaks and couldnt do anything. I didn’t cry once or go to the hospital. I took some medicine and got back into it. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve seen girls break their arm in a routine, and they still kept going, not crying either. We get the fuck over it too 😉
@purpleandblack10 One person throws us too, and ice skating isn’t for me. I don’t enjoy it like how I enjoy the intensity of what I do. Not to be a bitch….but you started a sentence with “and”….I believe that’s grammatically incorrect….
I find it very amusing how all of these “Cheerleaders” are so narcissistic. Seriously stop obsessing over yourselves and being over dramatic. Cheerleading is not war, your not dying for your country so stop acting like it.
@noimchucknorris Would you like to throw a linebacker? and if you EVER see college cheerleaders like UCF, their girls are short but are HUGE, they have some serious biceps and leg muscle to do what they do.
They freaking spelled kaylins name wrong the first time they brought up her name they spelled it kaylen and her Twitter was under it with the actual spelling and the second time they brought it up they spelled it right. News people theses days.
I cheer as well and have cheered for 10 years so far, and for someone to say that it’s not a sport… just makes me mad because I’d like to see them put effort in practices and perform, and be in injuries cuz that is what it takes
I had a college coach in Texas of all places who only took the job so she could get fake boobs. my high school coach was better equipped than she was so it’s not always true. We basically were self coached.
I am a backspot in my high school cheer team and I do not care if I get hurt, my flyer is not touching the floor, no matter what that means has to happen to me.
IF BRIX KIX WAS BEING RUDE TO YOU LIKE HE WAS ME THEN I REPORTED HIM AND HE IS GONE NOW
My problem with this is, the title is called “Girls’ Most Dangerous Sport: Cheerleading,” but boys can do cheerleading too!
I’m a soccer fan personally I hate hockey but I know it’s way more violent then cheer
If u want to protect yourself, don’t do it! And yes the coaches are certified. We do way more than they showed in that video. Look up anything on level 5 cheerleading and u will know what i mean. If u want to ask me something my IG is @patterson547
Cheerleaders make it look easier and these haters thinks it’s easy bc their stunts are clean I smell jealousy
Rather interesting HLN decided to interview another NFL cheerleader who came from a team that doesn’t have a coed squad.
Im in cheer and when people say Its not I sport I get pretty upset b/c no! I dont have to run or kick a 2 pound ball but I throw a 100 lb girl in the air…And when they loose a catch/pass they just loose a touchdown or getting to move down further…I loose everything and get in huge trouble…No i dont have 3 hours to prove how good i am i have 2 1/2 min
is it weird that this is the first cheer video i saw and it made me want to do cheerleading
ive been doing it for 3 years now hahaha
I understand cheerleading is a hard sport but like any other sport it take time to get well and be in shape and a lot of people can raise someone over there head so don’t brag.
Some people don’t understand how hard Cheer can be. Try holding a girl by yourself above your head
This is true. I sprained my ankle twice this month because of it. I keep missing practices and it’s bad:/ I can’t walk either. Ugh this really sucks, but I’m going to strive.
1. Hes a guy 2. that’s 2014 not 2015 because in 2015 they have different uniforms
To u people that say cheer isnt a sport “a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment”
I hate when people always say cheerleading isn’t a sport like gymnastics and dance are why can’t cheer I’m mean we are throwing girls up catching them tumbling then landing and much more harder and difficulty than dance
It’s not like people just say “I’m gonna start cheer leading” and they immediately begin doing flips and throwing and stuff. They train for AGES to do this. They practice so much so that they are PREPARED! Jeez, this video annoyed me alot
she got really close to the other person when they intercepted. she didnt have much room when she was tumbling.
I’m a cheerleader I’m a level 3 all star cheerleader and it hard and you will never know the pain when you fall from a stunt I was a flyer in level 2 and it’s hard
Alot of people say cheer isnt a sport. IM SO HAPPY SHE SAID ITS A DIFFICULT SPORT LIKE YOU UNDERSTAND US CHEERLEADERS
I’m at my house instead of school because I got dropped in a stunt yesterday
@Droolbaby You’re the dumbest person on here…..you should do some serious research before daring to comment back on here. We’re not there to entertain, cuz if that was the case, every sport would be a performance base entertainment requiring athletic ability, cuz it entertains the crowd. You obviously hate cheerleaders,if you hate them SO much, why are you watching these videos? lmao you’re pathetic.
One time, I was a the bottom of the pyramid (A-frame) when the whole thing collapsed, next thing I remember, was waking up on the mat with my flyer in my arms, a severe concussion, and two bend ribs.
Not a lot of people realize that cheer is actually a very dangerous sport. This is coming from a Jr. lvl 3 competitive cheerleader and school cheerleader. I’m just saying that people need to realize that we work our butts off in order to hit our stunts and that no injuries occur. I’m also saying that cheer is a hard sport and that people need to stop saying it’s easy. I would like to see them throw 100 pound girls and CATCH them.
Rant over
its not the most dangerous sport. It’s gymnastics. You can split the beam, and break you neck. And you can break you back in the pit even by bending to far. Do a back handsprings can hurt your head! Bars rip your hands! And vault can break your hand or arm! You can LAND ON YOUR NECK on the tramp and be sent to the HOSPITAL! So cheerleading is just a stupid way to get girls “popular”. Gymnasts don’t want to be popular in school. And you dont WEAR SHOES! So break you toes, you’re out for a week or two.
She was not apart of the game. I can’t see why the game can’t go on if a cheerleader gets injured. It all apart of the job.
In there music it said “nothing can stop us” kinda ironic but I hope shes ok
No ones gonna pay mind to the fact the reporter said big butts?
I did competitive cheer for two years and that was really hard, our coaches had high expectations for us. And when I didn’t cheer the next year for school, I got injured more with them than I did with competitive. For sidelines, I twisted my ankle, busted my lip open, fell a lot and just so much drama in general. I had almost no drama with competitive.
Haha it is not 2019 and it is Considered as an Olympic sport
I feel so bad for patty
Her parents went to America for her to have a better life
To have a better future
I feel so bad
It just make me want to give a big hug
Cheerleading is the most dangerous sport in the world so…
Also real cheerleading isn’t the sideline cheer leading with pom-poms for the football players real cheerleading is all-star cheerleading we go through hours of grueling practice to perform in a competition so for all the guys making excuses like we don’t need you on the sidelines we don’t go on the sidelines
don’t you just hate it when this type of videos the problem is at the end when it’s all done
Ur probably a high school cheerleader which isn’t a sport all star cheerleading is and yea we do
Is that Hartford community college cause if so I had my last competition there
You can just the the tear stains on Patty’s photograph.. so heartbreaking
Sadly when you participate in sporting events on Disney property you have to sign a waiver that basically says you can’t sue Disney for negligence for basically anything.
My hand is broken:(( cause of my cheer lol but as soon as I get out of this cast I’m back at it
@Droolbaby If we didn’t have rules and regulations with the 6 year olds that begin all star cheerleading, they would be allowed to do back tuck baskets, rewinds, and all the stunts college cheerleaders are allowed to do. Which could kill a 6 year old flyer if her 6 year old bases don’t catch her. Thats why.
And they say cheer isn’t a sport… look at this.
Also I hope she was ok❤️
i hope she is okay!!! ❤️ to all cheerleaders watching this close to competition don’t watch it!!! don’t scare yourself by watching cheer fail videos. i compete at regionals in six days and if we get top three we go to nationals!!! wish us good luck!!:)
she was fine that was a baby scratch but I’m sure it hurt like hell in the moment, I landed straight on top of my head sending all that weight down through my spine and neck, very close to paralyzing myself
@metsrule107 Try to do ours 😉 i’ve seen guys on my team cry after a cheerleading work out cuz it was so painful.
So sad to see something like this happen especially at the most important competition if the season
People go down in stunts all the time… My couch said that if someone gets knocked out on the mat we can not touch them at all… We have to just leave them… The music will not stop… It is so common for someone to get hurt that u have to just leave the person for the couches to get off the mat… Not u or anyone else
Yeah, I know what you mean. And All the coaches I have ever had we experienced cheerleaders from college and allstars.
their tumbling is so chaotic. Of course someone would get hurt. I really hope she is okay.
Shannon got hurt when she did her pass right next to that boy he gave her all that bounce and that’s why coaches tell the computers not to get to close in passes
And critics still say cheer isn’t a sport I hope she’s okay though
Even though this was 5 years ago, no one will understand how hard it is to be a cheerleader unless your a former cheerleader
i love cheerleading i had a knee injury, neck injury and it came out almost broken with lots of nerve damage and i do youth leagues and its horible what you see go on my friend was in a neck brace 2 weeks before i was
gYmNaStIc ExErCiSeS!!11
tHeSe aRE gYmNaStS!1!1
No honey boo boo tHEYRE CHEERLEADERS, cheer and gymnastics are two entirely different sports.
LooK news people I’m in 6th grade I cheer for the Miami lakes jaguars n we practice at a park we do flips and all that stuff we aim got no mats we do all Rhodes stunts no matse it’s all bow blood sweat and tears
I was a boy flyer and I’ve been dropped before. The stuff is not fun. But it’s all worth it.
And kick all with a smile on our face. So dont say cheerleading is not a sport when we work just as hard as any other sport.
yes we do get a lot of injuries and it does hurt when we do but we always seem to go back, why? because we know what commitment is and we love the people on our team like its our family
Here’s a thought, stay on the ground. 100% safe. You’re welcome.
“Those girls were being tossed 30 feet into the air” hunny, more like 18
Did she hit the guy that was tumbling to the corner? If so, how was he able to keep tumbling?
@PHCCcheerleading
Actually no I haven’t.. I didn’t know you actually get scored on Cheerleading.
But despite it being a sport I still wouldn’t want to do it its not my style and I would most likely get a bad rep from it. Learn something new everyday!
Hi im Lillian a flyer I’m 9 and cheer is hard if say cheer is not a sport you are wrong cheer it harder than football I know a football player that they became a cheer coach and they said cheer is harder that football btw try practice everyday for 2 hours so I know your probly like that is so fake I only get Sunday off then brakes if you add competitive cheer witch is what I’m in you have compotishon after compotishon so it is hard
Edit:btw I’m a level 1 youth rec squad
AND I bet most cheerleaders cant do a back tuck on the beam and do a back handspring onto vault with a full twist STICKING it for 4 seconds and a back hipcircle on bars with a front hipcircle and a kip
plus gymnasts have only ONE or TWO spotters not lile A BILLION to catch a person
Some schools cheer teams aren’t supplied with mats because it’s “not a sport” they’d have to purchase the mats themselves…
My schools team has to fund everything themselves and that’s why it’s so expensive to do HS cheer at some places.
um you do know wrestling is considered a sport in highschool right? Cheerleaders are gymnasts and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be a good cheerleader. Not everyone can walk in and poof be an amazing cheerleader. Also you are probably just upset because you cant do a quarter of what these girls and boys can do. You think they just stand off to the side and chant no these girls are being thrown between 30-50 feet in the air go look up competitive cheer and tell me thats not a sport
@dirtysock145 We get injured even if we do stuff right, we don’t have to do the wrong thing to get hurt.
@Droolbaby I believe cheering is just as much a sport as dancing. I danced for 3 years and then i switched to cheerleading because i liked how it combined dancing, tumbleing and a few other things. PLEASE STOP STEROTYPING!!! I am an all star cheerleader and we dont even talk to football players unless we see them at school. There are different types of cheerleading. Do your homework if your going to fight with cheerleaders about cheerleading. In a few years cheering will be a sport.
cheerleading is the most dangerous sport. #2014 u don’t think cheer is a sport. go to one of our practices and watch us crying the pain of conditioning, falling out of stunts, being fallen on, landing wrong in a tumble. im a flyer, base, back, and front, I have gotten more concussions and sprained stuff than anyone on the whole squad, in their whole life. imagine being 10 ft high and falling spraining yur shoulder and nearly dying cuz u hit your temple. imagine having to explain to your mom why your missing all your teeth. imagine lifting 100 pound people in the air. so yea sure cheer isn’t a sport and all we do is be prepy. my whole squad is either emo, or a tom-boy. u know what hurts the most in cheer is how no one is even paying attention.
the fact that states don’t recognize this as a sport is ridiculous. i mean seriously, these girls and boys TRAIN everyday for hours just so that they can have the best two and a half minutes on the mat at competitions. Not only that, but sure we stunt and tumble and dance but we try our hardest at this sport no matter what is happening. If u get hurt u get back up, that’s how determined we are. to all of the people that don’t think cheer leading is a sport,1st of all the next time u want to say cheer isn’t a sport say it to my face and then go try and hold up a 95/100 pound girl who has to smile, switch legs, be flexible, stay balanced, and turn as much as she can in the air all while tightening her body to the point that it hurts then having to catch that girl so she doesn’t fall. number 2 i bet u couldn’t even make the team so talk to me again when u try out and don’t make it. and number 3 yes it is dangerous did u not just watch that video? if u did then u should also know that its not only dangerous for girls, its just as dangerous for guys. so don’t just assume that because they where a pretty uniform and make it look like that it’s soo easy that it is. it really isn’t. there is a reason that those uniforms are the way they are, not just because they look good. there is a reason that they put there hair up, not just to make themselves look even more “pretty”. there is always a reason. ALWAYS.
I hate how they keep interrupting the cheerleaders coverage with the football games.
They should at least use a split screen or something.
I’m a competitive cheerleader and I have sprained my wrists 17 times and dislocated my shoulder and tore my knees all because of cheerleading x my parents spend thousands of pounds on cheerleading and I still love it x cheerleading is like an addiction once you start you can’t stop xx
Tthe most dangerous sport is not gymnastics. PLZ STOP SAYING THAT
@Droolbaby hmmmm i’ve never gotten picked up by the football players at the end of the game, usually we’re in the prayer circle and then get on the bus to leave….I don’t know what cheerleaders you know, but that’s my team. Don’t stereotype, it makes you look really stupid. 😉 Once again..we don’t sing haha so dumb. Also about the pressure comment earlier, try doing a 360 up bow and arrow double down, and having to stick it no matter what because if you don’t,that risks your team a national title.
Yeah I do cheerleading but I’m a back spotter like if someone fall I have to catch them and I’ll get hurt it doesn’t really hurt sometime
I am just saying we out our life out there for 2 minutes and 39 seconds because it is our dream every athlete wants to be the best at what they do same thing here
@purpleandblack10 Injuries happen to more than just the flyers, bases and backs get knocked out if one thing goes wrong. Injuries also happen during tumbling. Don’t state something if you don’t know anything. Do you want to trust two to three people to throw you in the air, and if you come down the wrong way cuz you were thrown too far back, for them to risk themselves getting injured over you getting paralyzed?
How in the world is this considered abuse? Chi… there acting like this happens or is going to happen to everybody. If you know what your doing then you shouldn’t have a problem. Every cheerleader or at least I was taught to never let a flyer hit the ground. Guess everybody wasnt taught the same way
Ok it doesnt matter what it takes people put in the effort for what they love everyday, the point is is that this sport is a matter of when not if and one mishap and a girl is paralized and never walking again, we as humans wete never meant to be thrown into the air, what goes up must come down and when someone fucks up them that person has to pay for it, the end result is that people are just doing something dumb over and over again to cheer a team on, is it worth it to be paralized the rest of your life or to cheer on a team??? Doesnt make sense
cheerleading is not a sport it’s a hobby for rich bitches or strippers
This is not true, cheerleading is not a sport!!! And gymnastics, boxing, and many other sports are way more dangerous
I don’t think people understand how dangerous cheer is because I am a cheerleader and I get thrown into the air, dropped, bruised, hurt but you have to get right back up and do it again. There is more than just cheers and dances and flips. There is safety rules to help prevent injuries. Cheerleading is definitely a sport wether people want to believe it or not.
Hundreds of cheerleaders get hurt because of routine mishaps and poor training. Nobody gives a s#!t.
One Cheerleader gets taken out by a freak accident with an umbrella, completely unrelated to cheering. FRONT PAGE NEWS!!!!
Ha for those of you dummies out there who don’t think cheerleading is a sport…i wanna see you try and what we do its not as easy as you people think
These people have NO clue what they are talking about. I am a cheerleader, yes it can be dangerous and is hard. But suck it up. We have mats and we practice so we dont mess up.
@Droolbaby You’re an embarrassment to yourself by how little you actually know about cheerleading.
Whilst cheer looks cool and is impressive and 10000% is a sport. It’s stupidly dangerous, it does need to be regulated and teachers should have qualifications and licences to teach. It scares me that if you google famous cheer coaches you can’t see a lot about their cheer relevant qualifications. They aren’t trained on human anatomy and safe practice. There are stupid methods of training to gain flexibility which puts young peoples physical development at risk, thats terrifying. Also your trusting people who have no basis to teach this sport, to allow you to be thrown in the air? Also on cheer docs they all seem to go its a X injury without consulting drs, again thats stupid, dangerous and down right neglectful of a students wellbeing. Theres so much wrong with this sport and needs a serious intervention. It shouldn’t be banned just needs a serious sorting.
@TaekwondoBoy836 Ever heard or been to a cheerleading competition or have seen a score sheet? We have points that can be gained and taken away. We work hard every day working on strength, endurance, height, and tenchnique. We compete even when in pain, no matter what injury we have, we get on that floor and give it 110% to win $1000 to $3000 or a National Title. In high school, my competitive cheer team was in better shape than the football players.
Really only dangerous “when flipping in the air”? Well recently I was tumbling, doing a simple full and my feet swept through, didn’t even touch the ground, I landed on my back. Guess what, I broke three bones in my back. I have to admit, I tumble pretty high so I guess it could just be that. Before, I was about ten, I was doing jumps. No flips, spins or stunts. I was doing a toe touch. I broke my growth plate in my right knee. That’s easy. And comparing us to “figure skating” is like comparing
For all those people out there who say cheerleading is not a sport, it is. You only see what happens in the games. You dont see the practices where we get hit, and bruised. You dont see the sweat of a hard workout. We have to exercise too just like any other sport. We run, do crunches, jumping jacks, push ups and more exercises. On top of that, we stretch too. When in competition, you have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to prove ourselfs worthy of a trophy. We have to dance, cheer, stunt, flip,
They get hurt: Game stops in its tracks, everybody kneels, they get back up everybody claps and cheers and they limp off the field or get taken away by ambulance
We get hurt: we get a good ol are you ok? And get back in line and pick up where you left off
Now does that seem right to you???
Not every gymnast has a prejudice about cheer leading! It’s just the few jerks who make us look stuck-up and mean. I for one think that cheer is very hard, and I have no idea what they go through because when I was little my cheer club went bankrupted so I had to quit. So then I went to gymnastics, and so I never really got into a high level of cheer. I can’t say I know what you do because I’ve never really done cheer. But I can say that I feel their pain with all the hard training!
Our coaches are very well experienced! They have been cheerleaders for a very long time I disagree with there opinion
@missoreoluvr We aren’t sluts lmao and fyi, lose clothing is dangerous in cheerleading because it can get caught in the bases hands, which is why our skirts are short. NO ONE complains about volleyball and their spandex, so don’t complain about our uniform when there is an ACTUAL reason for it. And we don’t just dance. Thats a very small portion of what we do. Get your facts straight.
OMG, those two males are sexually harassing/assaulting her! Call Meghan Kelly and Gloria Allred!
Not worth it, cheerleaders are not getting pay the big bucks
the difference between cheerleading and other sports is that other athlets lift weights, cheerleaders lift athlets. it IS a sport, I’m really sorry about the people who says it’s not.
And wow how ironic that this happened at my school today. Thank god she’s fine tho. She fell off the pyramid and on to her face
No one cares about cheerleading until something like this happens (no one meaning people like news reporters). They don’t shine any positive light AT ALL on the sport. As soon as something awful like this happens, they finally talk. But they are just making cheer look like an awful sport and I’m so sick and tired of it. Ugh!!!!
I feel like it’s not fair for the flyers cause if the base isn’t good enough they could literally fall on their head and the base just feels bad right? And the base doesn’t have to be thrown in the air yes of course we still break bones from flips and all but so do flyers. But cheer is most definitely a sport and it’s scary sometimes but it is worth it
dont take the stunts they do for granted? or you could just not do them at all
@Droolbaby so your saying because it’s not as easy as oh we got 10 touchdowns we win its not a sport. This is a sport where it’s harder to win. It’s more than running a football from one end zone to another or harder to shoot a basketball in a hoop and get points that way. With this you have to impress other people and you have to be spot on or you get points docked. Just because your not able to tell how they are scored doesn’t mean you can use that as a reason there “not a sport.”
Um you do have an objective scoring system. They judge them on their technique how well they do the moves you can say you dont have this you dont that, if youve never done it. Cheerleading is tough and give me good reasons competitive cheerleading isnt a sport those girls are athletes doing moves you probably couldnt dream of.
Okay at 1:30 this really bugs me. Like 75% of cheer injures are from stunting!!!!
@Droolbaby um excuse me entertainment Dancers and cheerleaders are athletes! We put as much into our sport as people do in basketball and football. You think it’s entertainment which means you must think its easy! Completely wrong you probably would never have the core muscles to be a good dancer or cheerleader. Come in let’s see you do a cartwheel into a back handspring or see you do 32 fouetté turns without feeling dizzy mr.bigshot!
@jayhawk181998 I was dropped numerous times: one I was up in an extension heel stretch getting ready to do a double down and pop back up to a pyramid and they dropped me on my back during the double down. It was like nobody touched me when I was cradling. And I’ve broken my nose because we were in a parade and I was in an extension and I went flat faced onto the pavement. ouch! That one hurt!
@jayhawk181998 yea! I was a flyer competitively for 8yrs and now i was put on the bottom as a side spot…Competitive cheer is so much more harder. You run around yelling, smiling, tumbling, stunting, dancing, and looking good for like 2 to 3 minutes! It’s highly tiring! I remember coming off the floor and having my throat and mouth completely bone dry because I was breathing so hard. It’s difficult! Spirit cheer isn’t cheer, competitive cheer is!
@MichelleC840CaylaE8 No, injuries happen to bases a lot, backs, and flyers. I’ve been a flyer for almost 8 years, I got hurt when one thing went wrong, i’ve never looked down in a stunt. Bases get punched, landed on, which causes back injuries, shoulder injuries, and could break ribs. Backs get knocked out more than anyone. I did in high school, woke up with blood all over my hand, body and didnt stop bleeding til 2am. You’re not funny, in fact, you sound stupid cuz flyers never look down. lmao.
This is why they need to put males on the team if they’re gonna be doing stunts like is done with competitive teams. You can’t just do basket tosses and expect the strength of three girls to equal the strength of three men. ♂️
@PHCCcheerleading Not to be a bitch, but I believe starting a sentence with “but” is grammatically incorrect.
They’re also not throwing you over ice. You have a mat.
I,m a cheerleader and I am a flyer and I broke my arm I couldn’t go back for a year:(
@TaekwondoBoy836 High school cheerleaders tend to get a bad rep more than all star and college cheerleaders. Girls are vicious in high school so they’ll say anything to make someone look bad lol but yeah cheerleading isn’t for everyone.
@Droolbaby Also, we compete for a title. You know, Regional, State, National, World titles. Money can also be won for winning. I’ve never heard of a cheerleading competition to win the star football player. That might be a situation in movies, but not in real life.
I’ve done a few cheerleaders and one thing is for sure…… ohhh wait, what were we talking about?
@purpleandblack10 ya we do have mats and i dont think she is trying to get you all upset about that. She is just saying its hard on us too. Personaly i dont know how figure skaters do that cause i can barley stand on ice. I just think people should stick to what they know and stop yelling at eachother.:)
@Droolbaby lmao first of all, i can’t stand football players, second of all, i’ve been a competitive cheerleader for almost 8 years, and third, I took dance for eleven years. I’ve done all of those type of dances haha and cheerleading is way harder. The only reason why people say its not a sport, is because officials don’t judge it, anyone can judge it, and i’m working on getting officials to judge it. Btw, cheerleaders don’t sing haha and last i checked, i keep my clothes on. Don’t stereotype.
@PHCCcheerleading Oh, honey, please talk to me when you learn to use proper grammar and spelling.
And two to three people throwing you? Try doing those “stunts” on icewith one person to catch you. I figure skate. Don’t say I know nothing, I’m a gymnast, too. You don’t know me, so don’t tell me what I know.
What about horseback riding? I think like 200 people die a year from horseback riding.
THE FACT THAT THEY STILL WON WORLDS MAKES ME THINK ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. GREAT JOB!
Cheer is definitely a sport. Football players have tons of padding and get knocked down and start flailing around on the ground like they’re dying. Cheerleaders have no padding and are getting thrown into their air 15-25 feet. When a stunt falls you just gotta keep going and you can’t really stop.
All I got to say is that I pray the cheerleader is ok and what the lady said about the big bucks 4 cheerleaders I agree because cheerleaders should get paid alot
What happened and where did it happen??? I didn’t see anything
A lot of people don’t think cheer is a sport, and I am a competitive all star cheerleader and I am on a level 5 team and people don’t appreciate the sport. I have been doing cheer for 11 years and I am 13 but I have never heard anyone say cheer is a sport
I was there. They didn’t even show it on replay or announce it. All the people in my section appeared unaware that she was hurt. The game continued like everything was normal.
@metsrule107 We had to do 200 push ups in competitive cheer, hand stand push ups, use weights, work out our legs, abs, shoulders, back, calves, ankles. So shut up. Can you toss your brother and hold him up above your head without help or without him falling and hold him there for as along as you possibly can? thats a cheerleading drill. Have fun with that 😉
This was so sad to watch. Even at Worlds! Omg, I really hope she’s okay by now.:’c
go try being thrown 30 feet in the air and twisting when doing it. go do a back flip. come to a practice u will think otherwise.
Why do I feel like you think random people judge these things? These are trained proffesionals judging girls from a TECHNICAL standpoint. Of course there judge on balance foot placement and landing and all that because thats what their sport is all about. Doing that and making it look like a piece of cake
actually you have to be certified in order to coach just saying
I love people sticking up for Allstars Cheer I’ve tried almost every sport and I’m hooked on cheer at first my mom hated it…but now she’s proud of me and all the hard core workouts I do in cheer!!! CHEER4EV-3
Either way, not football mascots. My team in high school was all about the competitions, not so much the games. We usually dreaded games ’cause our school didn’t care about us even though we went to state every year. So we are not mascots for any sport, that’s what the actual school mascot is for.
cheerleading is a sport, we aren’t mascots for football. They only talked about high school and college cheerleading not about allstar cheer. If someone gets hurt in cheerleading from a stunts it more likely on purpose or accident because most cheer teams are like families, and a cheer family would never let someone get hurt if they can help it. Im and allstar cheerleader I know from experience.:]
cheerleading a SPORT??? expecting the NFL to stop a nationally televised game is just funny. its unfortunate what happened, but expecting the NFL to shut it down is bullshit, the league dont need cheerleading nobody goes to a game for that dumb shit
@KleeD213 Since you competed, you should know it is. There is a point system there just like any other sport, and we go up against teams from all over and work our buts off 4 to 5 days a week up to 4-5 hours. Maybe your coach didn’t work you hard enough. This is coming from a college cheerleader and head competitive coach.
