Is there a type of date you buy? I had never had one before and bought what looked like just plain dates but then found that a serving size of five had 30g of sugar. Seemed like a lot. They did taste great though, haha

Anyone watching this, 90% of what he’s saying is outdated. Eggs and cheese are good sources of FAT with some protein. Fat is good! He needs to stop talking smack about fat and talk about the real unhealthy villains: processed sugar, processed food-like substances, and refined grains (mostly found in processed food) Do not go for low fat varieties because the additives and such that they use to up the flavor is harmful. Just eat reasonable serving sizes. And microwaved eggs sounds horrible? These foods aren’t the worst but they’re definitely not the best.

How about fat from carbohydrates? Carbohydrates are still the most important for staying healthy and preventing injuries. Pasta, wheat, rice, potatoes just 10 grams per kg of bodyweight….

You should switch from soy milk to almond milk. Soy milk is highly acidic. Almonds are neutral. Endurance athletes are vulnerable to osteoporosis. The rest of your ingredients look fine.

Throw some kefir in there, and this is great (you can make coconut milk kefir if you want a vegan form)! Gotta get those probiotics to aid in nutrient absorption.

I just made the pb&j post-workout smoothie, and it is SOOOO good (really does taste like pb&j!) Since I don’t have coconut yogurt/milk, I just substituted that with a tablespoon of coconut oil and soy milk. I also added it some chia seeds for extra goodness!:)
This isn’t really a workout smoothie, but I love banana, chocolate, peanut butter milkshakes with soy milk. Mmm

i’m not a big fan of powders and all that stuff. I think its way healthier to eat whole foods. Best post run meal for me is, 5 bananas + 3 oranges + 5 medjool dates and some oat milk.

Interesting oil. I’ve never seen flax DHA products. Flax is mostly high in ALA, so that must be some refined oil you have there.
For my own recovery smoothie I switch out the flax oil with a tablespoon of freshly ground flax seeds, and the dates with a banana. And I add 2 tablespoons of cocoa, and some spices: turmeric, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cumin, Ashwaganda (if I have it).
To help recovery, during the day of my hard track workout I drink verbena tea and put some ground leaves in my morning smoothie. There’s a great study that lemon verbena lowers the amount of exercise induced micro-tears in the muscle without hindering the hormetic effect of the trainingstress.[citation needed]

Hi Sage! enjoying your channel a lot! I don’t think that looking for lots of antioxidants just after a workout is the best option, as it diminishes physilogical adaptations that lead to mitochondrial biogenesis etc. There are a few scientific papers on that subject, if you’re interested they are easy to find on google. Knowing that physiological adaptations last about 4-6 hours, I think that the best way to get antioxidants is at evening, as majority of adaptations have already take place. Keep with the great stuff!

As somebody who actually trains to become an athlete, in my school the morning workout can be up towards 2,5 hours of running with increasing speed for the last hour. This is not enough calories to even nearly support an endurance athletes morning workout.

He’s trying to make this accessible for athletes/people on the go. It’s a good blend of healthy fats, lean proteins, and good complex and simple carbs. It’s all too easy for an athlete to rush to practice and not be properly fueled before or afterand then pig out afterwards on takeout they shouldn’t have done. As a wrestler and boxer cutting weight, these recipes and tips would have been super helpful. I hope they help others, so thanks!

I microwave myself two eggs to go on my toast every morning. Sure they aren’t as good as stove cooked eggs, but I can get them done in under a minute, and end up with very little to wash up, so it’s a win win for me ♀️
I put them in about a centimetre of water, which poaches them (YUM), and means I’m not needing to grease the little ceramic pot.
Definitely make sure to spike the yolk though, otherwise things will get messy

I’ve gone from competitive powerlifting where I was using a lot of vegetable-based protein powder, to marathon/ultrarunning where I occasionally use protein. I have to admit I saw no noticeable decline or improvement in recovery when I ditched the protein powder. My training week is pretty modest (I’m nearly 40, busy job, 2 kids etc), and nowadays my nutrition is focused around wholefoods lots of organic fruit & veges with the odd beer. I take an Omega 3 supplement (from algae not fish), magnesium every now and then and B12 a few times a week… never felt better! Just eat natural and basic…morning as get up…best time to eat fruit, empty stomach, fruit like this keeps all the nutritions…train…if you want a coffee after an hour or two, have it, if hungry at noon, eat, body tells you, have more carbs then protein, train again…snack on nuts seeds dried fruit is ok, the eat more protein then carbs, eat early 5 or 6ish do some stretches before bed… All food basic steamed, grilled poached or raw……..some days body will ask more or less..and just pure water, none of the energy, glucose stuff…
