ahhh mey gadddd, RACHAEL!!! you need to stop!! SHHHHHHHH and let the man talk…JESUS CRUST!!
Depending upon portion, 2 Tbsp of regular Ranch is 2 grams carb and 0.7gram sugar and same amount of lite Ranch is 3 grams carb and 2 grams sugar. Extrapolate up from there depending upon your potion. The bowl of candy shown is misleading! 5 pc of chewy taffy would have 36 grams sugar. That’s a ton a light salad dressing!
More than half the pantry just for a way to hide the taste of disgusting bitter leaves we were not meant to eat…
I was wondering about this for a while i thought maybe the small amounts of fat in low fat plant foods where enough too absorb fat soluble nutrients but i guess not. Guess i’m going to try adding small amount of flax seeds to my morning fruit smoothie and a bit of nuts to my super. Its weird though because many people i know eat a whole food plant based diet with no overt fats and are super healthy, and food digest better and you can eat more when eating with no fats.
what this doctor is stupid. 3% vs 2% is only a difference of 1% but its a difference of 33%! thatswhy you can tell the difference between the three diff types of milks.
got to admit, just throwing some steak on the barbi is much easier and faster. too much ingredients and work make Beaker run away screaming
We tried this salad today, fabulous. Cindy added grilled chicken and I added sardines and it’s packaging olive oil. Our salad dressing was John The Greeks. Yum
All those herbs taste weird. I tried some of them before. Maybe I’m not use to it. The only salad I eat is from KFC but it’s not healthy since it contains mayonnaise. I need a recipe to cure sinus, my post back drip(not sure if it’s what it’s called, but it means the sinus dripping from the back) is non stop now.
Ich liebe die Rezepte, sie sind so lecker und man hat alle Nährstoffe in einem Gericht, Verschenke es ganz oft…
I love this cookbook and the recipe so yummy! And you have all nutrtion!
Nutritional yeast? No thanks. Really don’t feel good eating it and many suggest it is an excitotoxin.
My new favorite dressing. It’s so darn tasty.
I also add red cabbage, kimchi, green onion, cucumber, beans or lentils, sautéed mushrooms. So satisfying.
Not sure about all them dried herbs and spices. Flavours too strong raw in a salad. I’d just use fresh herbs and maybe some turmeric.
I made this dressing.. it is sooo good!! Also have extra Savory Blend to use in other recipes.. Thanks doc!
Love your videos. Can you please tell us what that little spice grinder is, looks very useful and easy!! I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks!
Can I use almond slices and sesame seeds instead of walnuts and sunflower?
I don’t add dressing to salad
I ADD SALAD TI THE DRESSING YALL!
delicious!! looks like one of the salads I usually make for work! I eat so many salads I’ve had ppl ask me if I’m vegetarian
What I do is sliced roast beef Swiss cheese and avocado using the roast beef as the bread
Salad looks amazing Thank you from your vegetarian subscriber
Okay Rachel please give your guests the chance to talk.. quit interrupting
Fantastic salad, makes me wanna prep a couple in advance for the week.
When an adult such as myself has been medically sick for 10 years and has malobsorbtion what type of milk should be drunk?
So thats how you dont use oil… this is a big shift for me. Thx.
Thank you so much for this 500 calories meal video! Please we need some more of this videos.
I was thinking that cookbook would be a good one! Cause it’s so healthy too
3:57 the lady in the bottom left corner acted like that was the worse thing she ever heard in her life
Thank you for this video…would love to see more like this. Also, as a suggestion, could you maybe consider doing an occasional What I Eat in a Day videos along with the type of exercise you may incorporate in your day to go along with those meals…I would really enjoy that!! Thanks for all you do, it’s very helpful ❤
It’s not just calories that matter, it’s enough of everything, enough sugar, enough fat, enough protein, enough vitamins and minerals etc.
Dr Greger, could you make a video about the recent asparagus controvery?
Looks DELISH!!! I won the book recently from a giveaway the Jaroudi Family held and can’t wait to try this!
New subscriber!!
I am so glad I found your channels! I am a 45 yo mom of 10 and I have lost 45 pounds on keto! I am needing to pick up things to lose the last 15-20 pounds, thanks for the motivation! It’s so refreshing to see a woman I can relate to. You are beautiful❤️
I Love you’re hands doc its so pretty vegan foods does, make you’re skin glow
I was just looking for a good salad recipe that would keep me full. Thank you so much!
A different video than usually.
But, I’m not gonna complain.:)
Thanks Dr. Greger! I love your videos! I also just posted a video on how to make a great Vegan sandwich: https://youtu.be/edmP17kFQJw
This video is too fast!! Increased to 2 minutes instead of 1:25 minutes would help. ☹️
2:23 Pieces from a boneless, skinless baked chicken breast has four times the protein than the goat cheese! High protein is good to shed body fat.
The guy in the video says salads are usually consumed as single meals when people want something light or do not have time to eat a full meal. In that case, an oil base dressing over a non-fat dressing makes sense.
I’m allergic to soy and quite a few other things, and have become quite used to no dressing, UNTIL NOW. Now I am going to put the time into making my own-like cranberry date sugar vinaigrette poured over my Royal Slaw Salad. At 49 years old, I have lost 35 and have 45 more to go.
Just think about all of the dieters going fat free to loose weight and then losing all of the nutrition needed after coming off the SAD.
Love Dr. Greger and the Daily Dozen.
I love adding parmesan, anchovies and Worcester sauce to mine, gives it the special ooppmf of Umami flavor.
I wouldn’t take diet advice from Rachael Ray. She should let the nutrition talk, maybe she’ll learn something.
The fat doesn’t actually have to be
onthe salad, right?, just part of the meal, I assume. How much time between eating salad & eating fat will still allow for their combined effect? She hardley gives this guest a chance to talk. Rachel is interrupting and doesnt want their guest to present.
Would you recommend this for a fatty liver? I have been low carb for a year and just found out that I have a fatty liver.
ugh im so tired of everyone thinking that the only thing that matters is calories… that cereal one especially is the one that bugged me the most. Sure the healthy one had more calories or more sugar, but look a what you are getting in your diet for those calories. Grains, nuts, and fruit. whereas the other one is a bowl of sugar.
I don’t like salad dressing. Just dry salads with a sliced boiled egg makes me happy. All that other stuff just covers the flavor of your food. Unless it’s burnt, you don’t need sauce.
Becky, I’d love to see your opinion on the comparison of the nutrients in nuts/seeds to nut butters. I try to avoid nuts/seeds for digestive tract issues, but are nut butters a good and equal alternative for the reasons you added walnuts and sunflower seeds to your salad?
I like your presentation your voice and last but not the least your pretty self. keep your good work going and video more on eggless dishes.thankyou doctor
Calories mean nothing! Fat is actually good! Sugar is the enemy period! Milk is for baby calf’s not humans!
@Purdueagriculture I’m so glad you responded! It seems like you have a handle on what’s going on around here. I’ve got some other questions that maybe you can answer. Do you know why fats from natural sources like nuts, seeds or avocado were not included in the study?
People say that making a salad is “too complicated”, then spend 2 hours on same lame TV-show that does nothing for their health.
wow. will try it as soon as my water fast ends!:D can’t wait
Measured in the blood stream? Perhaps the fat is stopping the nutrients from going immediately into the cells as it is absorbed by the gut and begins to circulate? Sort of like glucose with fat? I can’t see an evolutionary advantage to the conclusion that we need fat to get optimum digestion from leaves. Just wondering if we measured the health and nutrient levels of the cells themselves or the amount excreted in the stool how these observations fit in. Of course, bacteria in the gut may be ingesting the nutrients too and providing them to us more slowly over time. Possible? The pitfalls of adding fat and the tendency for us to allow our natural craving for fat in this world of overabundance make a case for not adding fat which we know has other complications of which we are all aware.
I’ve been waiting for this one! I’m going to have that salad tomorrow for lunch! Thank you!
I had this salad for lunch today except I added soft goat cheese instead of feta and I had to also eat some sardines to bring me to full satiety. Great lunch today!
Whenever I eat avacados I get the worse stomach cramping. Any ideas why? Also, where can I find the avacdo oil and salad dressing?
Thank you! It was very helpful to see what a 500 calorie, healthy balanced salad looks like!

Dr. Smith is energetic and seems interested in helping people. Unfortunately, he is not aware that sodium is an essential mineral, good fats are needed for the brain, and all calories are not created equal. I would like him as my doctor because he seems open to others opinions.
I’ve made this five times already! My new go to for salads3!
Hi Dr. Becky. I am doing a reduced carb and higher fat program. I am allergic to nuts (almonds walnuts pecans hazelnuts) but a, OK with seeds including peanuts. What can I do to get another version of high fat that is good quality in my foods?
Please for the love of everything, don’t stop making these recipe videos!
I live in UK never heard of this Rachael but can tell you she really is rude interrupting guests not letting them finish sentences jumps in the middle of their sentences and finishes it for them. She is annoying.
If she knew everything to say why have a guest to come and talk about it; o my rachel let your guest speak without interrupting…
Dr. Ian Smith and you to Rachael!
New study Ar Very informative of calorie and sugar Ada thinks to?
The keto diet limits carbohydrates to just 20–50g a day. A single slice of bread typically has 15g of carbohydrates, so you can imagine how restrictive this form of eating can be.
The diet – or popular adaptations of it that you’ll find in books and on the internet – suggests consuming high volumes of animal products (so vegans and vegetarians may find this diet very difficult to follow) with a variety of the following foods:
Proteins – beef, lamb, poultry, pork, fish and seafood, eggs, tofu (if you are vegetarian).
Above-ground vegetables – spinach, rocket, kale, broccoli, mushrooms, celery, cabbage.
Fats – coconut oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil, oil-based salad dressings, macadamia oil.
High-fat dairy – cheese, high-fat cream, butter.
Nuts and seeds – macadamias, walnuts, sunflower seeds, almonds, flax seeds, nut butters.
Certain fruits – avocados, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, lemons, limes.
Sweeteners – stevia, erythritol, monk fruit, and other low-carb sweeteners.
Drinks – almond milk, coffee, tea, water, sparkling mineral water.
Herbs and spices – salt, pepper, coriander, rosemary, basil, garlic powder.
A previous study from Iowa State in 2004 showed that carotenoids are fat-soluble. That study concluded that vegetables in salads needed to be paired with some fat to allow the body to absorb the carotenoids. Dr. Ferruzzi’s study received no private funding. The U.S. Department of Agriculture funded his work.
I decided on CARNIVORE cuz’ I have a problem with sweets of any sort..just one bite sends me in a painful tailspin of binges..I’m under weight now and would like to enjoy a candy.cookie or any keto sweets..help?
Rachel, if you are going to cut your guest off then entire time, why don’t you just do the segment by yourself?
I heard, many years ago, that women buy salads to watch their weight..they get a 250 calorie salad & then bury it under 300 calories of dressing!!
(This was in reference to ‘the girls” going to lunch from their office).
And check next time you think of choosing a salad in Any restaurant…some of them have 700+ calories!!!
who else thought the ice cream with the fruit loops looked good as hell
She’s still interrupting her guests. Wish she would let them speak.
Rachel needs to Stop interrupting. You’re.not Martha Stewart. She’s the ONLY ONE
I never noticed how annoying Rachael is. She always interrupts her guests.
just got be your own detective and know what works and what doesn’t for feeding your family!!
I have the book in hardback AND Kindle. But I wish I could actually see the ingredients listed. I can’t because YouTube fades the title of your video for a few seconds and it blocks the beginning ingredients.
The video moves way too quickly and there’s no complete list of ingredients to take a screenshot!
What is the percent increase in absorption and delivery of carotenoids?
The take away message about the cereal was muddied up with the “aha” ice cream stunt. I know they thought it made for a good TV visual, but the ‘smaller portions, watch you ingredients list’ message was lost when they started equating the contents of the sugar cereal & ice cream bowl with the granola bowl. The take away message then became “these are pretty much the same. In fact you’d have to add ice cream to this one to make it as bad as the so-called “healthy” stuff”.
How about talking about all the other things you get from a SENSIBLE portion of homemade granola? Especially compared to the other bowl of just fake fruit flavored sugar rings? Fiber, protein, slow carbs, etc…
They should’ve went in another direction with this.
And the firmly placing the bowls down on the table at the end just drove the message home. “These are the same! Just look! This is the same as that!” It’s probably not the message they were trying for.
Btw, I actually like Rachel. I’m not just trying to troll here. She’s awesome, but they just got this segment so wrong.
Dr Becky, what is you take on the Beef and butter IF diet? Thank you for this lovely video, I love salads and do try to have it daily.
THANKS DOC, WHAT OTHER CHEESES CAN WE USE IN KETO DIET?..PLEASE ANSWER, GOD BLESS.
Just to reiterate Julie whites comment below, we would love to see what you eat in a day.
This recipe is 500 calorie I was thinking this may be 250 calorie even my fitness pal apps show 250 calories for such salad recipe. I love the recipe will make tomorrow this salad
Why didn’t the study include one group who had no oil or fat on their salad and compare absorption levels to that group? The man in the video said it himself-the main point of the study was to compare different fats to each other. Is it possible that this guy is paid by big agriculture to promote the use of vegetable oils?
Dr Becky! I am a cardiac surgery RN, a mother, and a lover of exercise my whole life.. but finally I found your nutritional advice has caused a true paradigm shift in my lifestyle and body.. thank you for this!! I have started sharing your channel and your other channel with my colleagues and athlete friends… I have gone low carb and have seen my body become so much more sculpted. I am still a bit confused however on fiber.. I cook with chic peas all the time and use Chia flax and hemp seeds in smoothies to break my fast.. where do beans belong in the low carb diet? Thank you for all of your wonderful information! I will continue to share…
I would increase the protein content because at 13.3 grams of protein, it is not enough. We should consume at least 20 to 30 grams of protein per meal. Fortunately, in this salad which seems delicious, it is easy to add protein like eggs, meat, fish, etc… even if it adds calories to the salad because protein is SO important.
I wish you included purple cabbage or some other nutritionally dense foods, but I’m glad these recipe videos encourage people to eat healthier!
Found your channel when I decided to give up sugar back in February. I like your videos in part because of the gentle approach; you don’t try to bully or shame people. Your 0 1 2 3 plan got me into everyday salads this year. My favorite homemade dressing is made from olive oil, apple cider vinegar, spicy brown mustard and lemon juice, with spices added. Its cheap to make and very tasty. Just curious did you go out and buy those sugary bottled dressings just to be able to show us the ingredients on the video?!
these studies that seems to shows garlic toxicity

I’ve been craving caesar salad lately but haven’t found a vegan dressing I really like. I think I’ll have to give this one a go!
Hello Dr.
Thank you for the showing and telling of product for the Salad.
Just found you on YouTube. Enjoying catching up on some of your videos. I am a warfarin patient, having had a valve replacement. I also have fatty liver, non alcohol, take a statin, among many other health issues. Also pre diabetic. Triglycerides are crazy high. Looking for a diet that will help while also being cognizant of vitamin K intake. Havent found anything thus far. Suggestions or possibly a future video? Thanks and look forward to watching more videos.
Loved the video. Question, if I wanted to make my own Olive oil * Vinegar dressing, how much oil & how much vinegar would be appropriate?
Dr Becky, loved this video. So helpful. Would love what you eat in a day. Love recipes!
My salad comes out at around 1800 calories on OMAD. I make around 7-10 cups and it’s an excellent way to balance my macros. It’s the meal I enjoy the most, this is just one example
Romaine Lettuce
Spinach
Walnuts
Cheese
Bell Peppers
Hard Boiled Eggs
Chicken or Fish
Red Onion
Beetroot
Olive Oil
Black Pepper
Himalayan Sea Salt
This salad would go great with a little bit of ” until now” and a small pinch of ” we will cover next time”
To save time slicing the cherry tomatoes, place a flat lid on top of a handful of them then while pressing down on the lid, carefully slice horizontally. It’s easier using a serrated edge knife aka bread knife
Hello, I posted a question on the video you and your husband made last week, the fasting fails video. I ask the question about which weight loss program I should join. The freedom only or also the 21 day challenge?
No one has seen it as of yet and I am interested in starting soon.
Thanks!
Thank you.
Greger is out of content and had to purchase this vid on fiverr lol wtf
I make this spring mix salad 2X a week (also from Costco). I also add avocado and/or an egg, and mixed nuts. If I don’t use egg, I’ll have a can of sardines in olive oil on the side. My dressings consist of EVOO, MCT oil, ACV, balsamic vinegar, and freshly ground peppercorn. Also on the sides are pickled cucumber, olives, and sauerkraut.
Just a question can I eat this with no gallbladder? It’s been 2 years since my surgery but still have problems with eating high fat foods
With busy lives and differing metabolisms and so forth, so what about calories?! We’re supposed to be consumers. Overindulgence? No. But don’t be afraid to eat because there are many who are homeless and in poverty who don’t know where their next meal is going to come from. And yet you have people who are afraid to have a few cookies or whatnot. It’s ridiculous. Besides, the fact of the matter is this: know your body.
Eat way, way more greens. I use a mixing bowl. My svg is “for 4 ppl” lol so eat 6-7 cups and add other fibrous vegs too. Make sure your protein is about 28g at LEAST per meal. I eat omad so i eat 56-70g protein in n with my salad.
But even for just 1 meal out of 3, eat way more greens/lettuces.
Watching this while fasting and i could literally eat that salad on my Ipad that looks soooooooo delish
Have a great day my friend ✌
Nutritional yeast is NOT A HEALTH FOOD. It is as bad as M.S.G. Dr. Greger should know better! It is an EXCITO-TOXIN. EXCITO-TOXINS DESTROY the brain. Read EXCITO-TOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS by Dr. Russell Blayock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pBcY5uuUVw
Dr. Katherine Reid has many videos about this. BIG FOOD has been hiding the fact that they have putting glutamic acid, or the “G” in M.S.G. in our food for YEARS. People need to learn to read labels and learn what the CODE WORDS FOR MSG are that they are now using. “Natural Flavors” is one among about 49 others. Here: http://coopvoice.com/msg-and-deceptive-labeling-the-hidden-toxic-chemical-in-your-familys-food-part-3/
Here is a list of code words for M.S.G. that are on food labels of foods most of you probably consume EVERY DAY.
https://fedup.com.au/news/blog/129-ways-to-add-msg-and-fool-consumers
My Ceasar Salad Dressing recipe is FAR more healthful with far fewer ingredients and tastes as good as the 5 star restaurants original old fashioned recipe made at your table (that is made with raw egg yolks, anchovies and loads of parmesan cheese). It uses an avocado mashed; 1 to 2 garlic cloves minced; 1 teaspoon Ume Plum Vinegar( which gives it the anchovy flavor) and 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard and juice from a quarter to a half of a fresh lemon. Mix it all together. Add to fresh Romaine lettuce and red onions. Sprinkle with fresh cracked black pepper and a little sea salt. Enjoy.
This looks great but where are the flaxseeds for the omega-3? Sunflower seeds, walnuts, avocado are all omega-6. So you have to balance it out with more omega-3’s.
I think that thumb down button should be moved far away from that thumb up! Who in a right state of mind would thumb down this awesome video clearly they meant to thumb up but that thumb down is so close! Love all your videos ✌
Didnt even watch it-just stopped to check comments to see if they would yet again be about her interrupting guests-they are! Just saved myself 2 minutes of aggravation watching the clip. I cant believe noone has talked with her about fixing this problem. I agree-just do the segment yourself-better than people tuning in to see the guest and then being appalled by her incesstant interjections.
Rachel zip your mouth and let him talk. She’s always talking over people or trying to finish someone’s sentence. You don’t have to always show you know stuff in the presence of others.
Dr. Becky,
Thanks so much for the valuable information. Always looking for GREAT recipes to include in my keto food plan.
Happy to be a new subscriber.
This is my kind of salad. I bought several of the PK dressings & BBQ sauces when they were on sale at Sprouts! I’m not that big a fan of Spring Mix because of the bitter greens in there but I love spinach and baby romaine.:) All the other ingredients are faves! Thank you!
He is using UNFORTIFIED yeast flakes -HELLO! The fortified ones will keep you in the doctors office!
So do chia and flax with their high omega 3 fatty acids work to help us absorb all of these nutrients or does it need to be like almonds higher in 6s or?
Great recipe. No meat. Good ingredients. Maybe could avoid that much plastic. Thank you for also showing recipes consisting all your diet philosophy perfectly.
I don’t even care, how many calories my salad has, as lo g as it’s as tasty as the one you showed.
So complicated! Why don’t you just open a restaurant already?
This looks incredible I can’t wait to try it! I would definitely add avocado and chickpeas!
So basically, take all the herbs and spices that you have on hand in the kitchen and blend them all together with a splash of water and lemon juice.
I’ve always found im more satisfied when I have a big great salad, and it just makes me feel good, I do this everyday, lots of spinach, and spring mix, my salad bowl is huge. I add organic tomato’s, grated parmesan cheese, feta, the dressing is avocado oil with a lot of ground up peppercorn inside, and i add roasted soybeans for crunch. Great salad!!!!

HEY thanks, I’ve never heard of that system, but I really like the idea of a 500 calorie salad!
For the love of god, internet. No more ukuleles and glockenspiels, I can’t take it anymore.
Hello Dr Gillaspy, I don’t have a gal bladder, and everytime I try to take oil with my salad, it sends me straight to the bathroom. The same with MCT oil. Do you think I should stay away from these oils?
I’m a newbie to low carb…. So is that 9g carbs if counting?
Love your salad! I eat that exact one but add arugula & use fresh lemon & Evoo/avocado oil for my dressing! YUMMMM!! Thank you Dr Becky & your husband for truth about keto & intermittent fasting. Oh, and your wonderful recipes!
More questions… Since the amount of fat needed to absorb the nutrients is really relatively little (maybe a teaspoon or even less?), do you know why the man in the video poured what looks like 1/4 cup of oil on the salad? Also, since salads are often accompanied by other food, wouldn’t the fat in whatever else someone eats qualify as the fat necessary to absorb the nutrients? Why would someone need to dress the salad with fat at all?
Looking at your salad, makes me think that I’m completely overloading mine and possibly with the wrong stuff! (Red onion, bell peppers, cauliflower, chicken AND avocado AND a mature cheese.) What do you suggest I change? Also, I’ve found my body reacts to nuts…not anaphylactic, but slight wheezing. Do you think this will ever go away, so I may enjoy these wonderful treats again? Thanks again for all your time and effort to create these videos! I love the scientific research you share with us! Blessings!
Thanks Doc, please do more videos on your meal plans. I live alone and I am not great in the kitchen. I can make this salad
Now study this salad by ( Put it to the test)……. perfect good for heart, gut, joints, antioxidant.
Make sure eat everyday not once a year
Hi! How does this fit in with other meals in the day? What’s your advice? I am 52 and struggling with hormonal weight gain.
