I’m beginner
Thanks Elanna, I’ve just started the first week of Couch to 5K here in Southern Italy and your presentation has motivated me to keep going with it
I love running and always have. I was 6 when I did my first 5k
this video has really inspired me to start running, thanks Hannah!!
I’ve started running and need some better clothes and trainers, what are the best affordable trainers as i have flat feet so need them to be comfortable?
Thanks I suck at running and get the can’t do it we need to sit down voice
Hey Hannah! I’m a runner too! I would also add if someone has an Apple Watch, to invest in the Velcro band! It’s a lifesaver for sweat! I can’t tell you how many times the sweat from me wearing the regular band would cause my wrist to itch! Nice video!!
I can run for long on the treadmill but once I go for a run outside I struggle a lot. Anyone else?
For the record, “Our local running store” in the US is often times a local shoe store. Be wary. They generally know nothing about the sport and are trying to sell you a product. You’ll need a specialty shoe store. Usually.
Is this an ad for flip belt? I just use a fanny pack and it’s v comfortable, same thing, you probably have one lying around the house
Stretch before you run
BREATHE
Workout in the right clothes
Practice makes better
Take breaks when needed
Set a goal like, “I’m going to run for 5 minutes without stopping”
Start small
Everybody is different
I started running when I was around third grade age and these all helped me. Just remember, it won’t happen overnight, or throughout the course of only one jog. Hope this helped. ❤️
-A huge fan of running
Reaaly enjoyed the video, congrats and chrees from Brazil \o/
At 1.03 looks like a perfect cycle route. Where was it filmed? Thanks for the tips!
Best tip is not to run too much. High impact and long duration leads to joint issues. Uphill walking or sprint training is better. Sprinting may be high impact but its very brief duration. Its simple to improve cardio fitness and burn calories without wrecking your body through years of running.
The idea of running and wearing shoes or even going out has totally disappeared in quarantine for me
Men need to Sprint for a testosterone boost.
Long distance running can spike cortisol and lower Test in men.
Just a tip for you all, from experience and also fitness gurus, jogging for long distances isn’t the fastest way to get the body you want. To get in shape and to build more stamina, yes it is quite possibly the most effective way to do so. But in terms of getting your body to look how you want, it can kill lean muscle and only provide a slight calorie burn for how much running you end up doing and the stress you put on your joints. I would suggest lifting weights, as it ends up burning more calories and promotes muscle growth, do that along with just some light cardio consistently and you’d be golden
Shout out to iOS ppl… I use run keeper is acc good Who else trying to have a glow up
Lovely Caty, I thoroughly. enjoyed your video. Great video indeed!
I ran my first 5k today, without any prior training, and the time was 25 minutes.
Is it a good time? By the way, I am quite fit
The effect gear has on your body is not subjective god i wish people would stop throwing this word around trying to sound smart.
Your channel is the first thing i check out everyday…. i cant even believe that i run everyday…
i still dont know that should i carry a water bottle with myself or not lol:))))))))))))
Step 1: watch Rocky
Step 2: download the rocky theme song
Step 3: run while listening to the song.

This is a GREAT video instruction! There were definitely a few things I picked up on in terms of running form. Also, I appreciate the posture review at the start as probably so many of us spend alot of time sitting and slumping. Good work keep it up!
Great video thanks. I started Couch to 5k and am on week 7 now running for 25mins. I have Jo as my coach also and really enjoying it now. Found it so hard to start with even running for 1 minute! I also MTB and have found I am so much fitter and stronger on my bike now.

You know what I wish I knew when I started? That running is not for someone who is 277lbs. My achilles tendon will never forgive me for that mistake…

But if to be honest, America have channels a WAY more interesting and cool than Russia.
Keep it up! I’m Sportsman too, Several times participated in a ski marathon
How does a real world run compare to a treadmill 5k? I’ve been going to the gym three times a week since new year and running 5 mins during my workout. Last night I decided to run a five for the first time. I walked for four mins before runningended up with a time of 27mins; I was pleased with that but think I cheated a bit by having kept the gradient at 0…
very inspring. im aiming to run the brooklyn marathon in a few months. Been losing motivation due to minor improvements in the long runs but this video reminded me the only person I should be comparing myself is me
How long did it take you to get where you are?
And also, when you say you run 30 minutes, do you run the whole time or walk some? You are amazing!God bless all of you
I’m not a runner, but I’ve always wanted to be one. Any advice on getting started? I really wish I had done cross country and track in junior high and high school.

Stupid guy on this video run landing on the back of his foot, what a dumbass
Great video it really helps being new to distance running. One Question I have is I would like to add the drills you suggested to my shorter run sessions. Do you think it would be more effective to complete the drills before or after the short run?
Have a passion to jog but knees arn’t cooperating. The swell and then I’m having to rest a few days so I feel like the further I get the more behind I get. Trying to stay encouraged but some days it feels like my dreams of jogging is not possible.
Quick question Nate. The superman lay. You say squeeze you belly and your butt. I can squeeze my butt, the belly I’m either sucking in or pushing out. I can’t squeeze my abs the same way I do when I’m doing the back core exercise. Am I missing something?
This is really great info. Thanks for this level of detail.

Thank you for this beautiful video. It’s really helpful. I quit smoking for 8 months then started back 3 weeks ago during a layoff from work due to covid19. I ask for prayers because I want to replace this smoking with running. I really don’t want to smoke. I did for 15 years. Please pray for me. I am starting in the morning ❤

While skin is waterproof, rain is typically cold and can be ‘energy sapping’.

I’m a beginner.
My goal is 3.2km within 14mins
You can help me reach my goal…
Please
i wouldn’t recommend going a size up. My feet would slide a lot and i ended up getting injured. Supportive shoes are super important though!
Tip 7 I would make even as tip 1. It is very simple yet so helpful for beginners. Great advices though.
Very nice video and you covered all of the important tips for beginners. Cross training and stretching is super important! And you should never ever run without proper running shoes! When running in winter I would recommend to warm up a little before a run. My ankles are always thankful for a warm up.
My butt is so big thats why I want to run, where no one can see me
Super informative… Very motivational, liked ur video a lot. Thank you
What’s about all the datas a garmin hrm tri at the beginning? Are they practicly or just something for pros?

Very interesting..i hate running with a passion but somehow i want to do this 5k business
So with the fasting, what time of day do you go for a run? Before or after you start eating for the day? Thanks!
MY BIRTHDAY IS THE 21ST OF AUGUST AS WELL! YAY LEO’S!!!!!!
I downloaded couch to 5k, about 4 weeks ago and whilst completing week 1, i thought i could never do this, 1 minute felt like such a long time to run for. I am now on week 4 of the app, and currently running 5 minutes. I never used to like running, but since using this app, i really like it.
Hey girlie! Watched the video and enjoyed the information. I too share the same desire to just run. In January 2020 before all this COVID I had planned to run a 5K on May 16 ( my Bday ). I ended up sick with COVID and quarantined in my room on my special day. Soo with that being said, I am now recovering and getting back to my goals. I do have a question??? I’m not sure if I missed this information but how many runs did you run before it started to be easier? I know some days are better than others but how long before it becomes normal and not feeling like your going to die? Lol
Im going for 23km run on dec..what,how should i train..?if i feel tired while on the run, should i just walk then continue run if i fell abit good?pls teach me..tq so much
Enjoyed your tips and inspirational advice… what tennis shoes have you liked running in? I’m looking at Nike Air Zoom Pegasus
If you are running for pleasure, listen to music, podcasts etc. But for proper training it’s best to avoid all distractions, focus on breathing and listen to your body. It took me a while, but I can run 10k without a single song whilst before I struggled and got bored by the first 1k.
Yes keep destroying your pelvic floor while running like headless chickens.
Omg your app is amazing. I am training for my first marathon and this provides all the tools I need for injury prevention! THANK YOU!!
Thank you for sharing your experience it was useful. Where I live there are no parks or forests so how would you recommend me changing my route? I’m planning on doing the run before work at like 4.30 or 5 in the morning since I work far from where I live.
omg woow I’m actually training with the couch to 5k to 10k I did my first 5 K 1 month ago and I’m training now to do the 10K wich I wanna be able to do before my birthday wich is the 20th August!!:D
nike run program is a lot better, it have all adidas pro things for free.
Bad advice on not going to a running store. Getting professionally fit is key
But I don’t want to run for beginners, I want to run for myself… How do Ido that?!?:/
I’m a runner too and I would say supportive shoes and a good stretching routine are key!
Can someone help me? I run a 20 minute mile (3mph) but I find it really hard for some reason. For the average person, that would be an easy walk, but it’s difficult for me. I’m 14, 5’1, and 119 lbs. If someone had any tips please help me.
Hi i just started jogging using the couch to 5k app, my fitness level is pretty low and im still in the 1st week of the program. My calves literally start killing half way through the workout and today (day 3) i experienced a weird disjointed feeling under my right knee. Is this normal? Is this expected and if so will it get better over time?
I’m starting tomorrow 5/19/20 app downloaded. I’m doing it for strength and body tone. Oh yea no more outside food. Check on me in a couple of weeks
When you would only run for like 3 minutes where did you do that cause I feel like it is embarrassing just running 3 minutes and then going inside lol
Mark, I’ve been running and involved in sports all my life. However, these last couple of years, both my calf muscles have become really problematic. No matter how much I warm up, stretch and take it easy, they keep getting injured which stops me from running for weeks at a time. I know it’s difficult without a diagnosis, but do you have any suggestion on how to stop this? Thanks so much.
Nice video. As a new runner preparing for my first marathon and vlogging my progress, this as a nicely timed video.
Does it start out where a lot of people can’t reach 1 miles and then after doing it everyday you get longer distances? I can only jog like.85 miles without stopping, but I’ve been walking at least 5 miles everyday, does just running everyday allow you to get further and further like everything else, I need motivation
Oh my gosh you are absolutely beautiful! I love your hair!!
Love all the information in this video. We just went for a run today as beginners and it seemed so challenging but fun. I must say this video is so helpful and will be using this on the next run
I’m still learning (overweight and old lol) but two things for me are to be OK with the running/jogging motion. My husband can walk at a slow pace faster than I can run but I feel like if I can get my body used to the difference in walking motion and jogging motion then that is a great first step. The second is to make myself breathe deeply, if I start to get tired I start breathing shallowly and then I’m not getting enough air, but if I make myself breathe deeper then I can keep going longer.
Proper running form is not running at all. Who is still stupid enough to run for fitness? There are untold numbers of studies that prove running is terrible for losing weight and it’s terrible on your body and your joints. It’s literally the worst form of exercise on planet Earth.
Do you intermittent fast on your run days? And if so, do you run before or during your eating hours? This video was so helpfull!!
remember not to push yourself to hard especially if you are a couch potato just starting you can have a heart attack or faint
I just got started with running, and I did join my local running group.
Missed a month it was combo of new job, rainy weather, and studying for my NCLEX state boards for nursing.
Wanna get back like I said I missed the entire month of December…I am looking for something like a fitbit to help me keep track of my miles, times and show when I am in fat burning zone. Any info in this?
After runs 2 times a week I am always hungry and angry this hunger is worst than regular hunger? I am an obese person too plus I strength train at the gym with weights that I notice helps with zero joint pain…so I like it.
Love the landscapes n the idea of you running n giving us tips. Your running motivated and inspired me. Thank you
Not only do you look like me but you also have a brass floor lamp like mine
…haha and wide feet as well
My first 5k a woman pushing a baby carriage past me, true story. . I will say this she was getting it.
stretching really is so important! if you don’t stretch injuries are more likely to occur and you won’t be in as good shape as possible.
See, the only thing about running in the rain is this: where I am in the US, if it’s raining, it’s also absolutely bonkers lightning and thunder. I do enjoy running on the treadmill now that I’ve gotten used to the weird “rolling” feeling underfoot.
I’m running my first 5k in 3 weeks. I’m on week 5 of 7 of my couch to 5k. Haven’t cheated yet and have actually done a little more at times. I’m super excited.
My wife was a cross country runner then she got Lupus and it wrecked her. So I’m doing this for her (and me as well but mainly her). I’m wearing all purple (lupus color) with a shirt that says “Lupus Sucks!” It stinks watching the person you love slowly decline physically. I love her and I’m gonna keep running for her! Thanks so much for this channel
Great video on good tips to remember! I have been sprinting for quite some time but never knew that these same marching band form techniques applied to running.:D
Are you going to be doing a video on the she reads truth materials you got a little while ago?
One thing I have found really useful is deciding to go on a run for just 1km. I feel proud of myself for completing my goal then I can then decide if I want to carry on running.
Only two thumbs down, that shows how runners are such positive people!
My first 5k was during a 10k race. So I never got that experience, and I regretted not having the experience of doing atleast half of that race. However, I ran it faster than 95% of my competitors.
Just made my 2 year old watch this, his technique is completely off smh
I appreciated this video thank you. Can this technique for brisk walking?
Thanks so much for your videos. They are helping me so much. I am getting into running again after a 20 year hiatus. My daughter (16) loves running and so it is a great way to spend time with her. We are heading out each day with the couch to 5K app and getting ready to run our first 5K together:) The tips in this video were invaluable. I will add the knees up, butt kicks and arm pumps to our warm up. Thank you so much for your support. With gratitude, Melissa
yes, start easy and get used to it if you’re starting from zero as the body takes quite a bit of hits from the impact
Really awesome video. No background noise. The audio is you are a natural at public speaking and you are quick and efficient! Cover a lot in a short amount of time. Enjoyable to listen to you and you keep it moving along. Thank you!!
started running again about a week ago, today I was feeling insanely motivated so I ran very far. When I finally arrived back at my home, my lower legs started to hurt so bad.
Now I sit in my chair and Im barely able to move them.
Well.. shit.. Lesson learned I guess..
i started running recently and i have been loving it
i wonder tho how fast/slow im going and what is like a normal pace? idk
My mom and dad said you need to go running outside and i was like “nooo its embrassing im too shy” but now i started to thinking that i want to go outside and run
Do you guys bring a water bottle with yourselves when going on a run?
Wow so many tips and things I didn’t know. I’m blogging on my channel about going from a beginning runner to advance.
Tips for beginners: do you pronate or under pronate?
Pretentious.
Tip 8…. i love the aches and the soreness. Love the tips. I am going to start running.
I also have been getting shin splints rea bad. Any tips for that?
I’ve been smoking pot like every day for 3 years and now I just turn 18. Exactly one year ago from now was when I last smoked. I just started running and forgot how challengingly it can be as you start out.
Thanks for mentioning sports bras. Often it’s one of the things never mentioned for beginners, especially women. My advice to other women has always been to get a good pair of running shoes and a good sports bra. It may not be cheap but a good bra can make such a difference.
Hey you have a typo in the thumbnail just wanted to let you know. (Experience)
had no idea running was such a complicated task
all this time i was..
just..
running o_O
Best advice..DON’T RUN!
In time your body will pay the price.
Walk/bike/swim but if you must run do it in a park on grass with a frisbee or a football.
Have you done any videos on Cross triathlon? (not X terra as they are soooo expensive and never in the UK). Road cycling is too scary here in UK and I’m a keen mtbiker and river swimmer so cross tris is definitely more appealing.. Cheers and thanks for the great content guys.
I started with Nike run app it good already did more then 50 run and did 100km can run with 22 minutes non stop and that 4km. Without pause if i pause i can do 10 km or 15 km but never try
I’ve been looking for a video like this! Really wanting to start getting back into running and your video is giving me all this inspo! ♀️
yesterday I went for a short run
, about 10min, since I am not really active I couldnt last longer…i tried to warm up a lil bit and I felt okay while running and after until now when I feel my right hamstring, as if its been stretched too much (if thats the right term??). I hope you understand what I mean. Did I maybe get injured yesterday from this short run? is there anything I can do about hamstrings pain since I have a problen with left hamstring for 6 months now and doctors only told me to take painkillers for it abd ofc, its bot working. please help! thanks in advance!
I like running and one week I got the crazy idea of running 5k EVERYDAY for an entire week. It was crazy but At the end of the week I felt so accomplished!I made a video if you’re interested it’s on my channel.
If I’m starting out and not tired from doing anything else I can jog 5-6 minutes and run maybe 2-3 max. If I’m already tired I can run like 0.5-1 minute:(
I have gained 20 pounds over 6 months and my clothes don’t fit anymore. I will use your tips and download zombies coach to 5k. I hate running, but I need to lose this added weight, so here I go!
I’ve been suffering chronic fatigue for years, but feel a little better lately, so started trying to run. I can only run for 2-3 minutes at a time so far ♀️ I also run funny
Hi. I don’t like to run to. I sign up for 5Ks and I walk because I can’t run. The link for the pouch doesn’t work? I would like to run.
This kicked my butt. Was awsome cause it showed me how weak my arms and core are! Thank you
Is it worth saying something about doing strength training too?
WE ARE BIRTHDAY TWINS! I’m shipping for marine recruite training soon and due to covid I have been a couch potatoe for 6 weeks so I’m definitely goingbto try this app to get me back in shape.
Have not run in 8 years. I just do heavy weight lifting. First thing i did was running 8km in 52 min. I was DEAD like for real everything hurt and i was unable to walk for 2 days haha!! When i did my militaryservice i did 10 km in 43 min and could atleast walk the daya after lol.
Eddit: can add that im now at 110kg half bodybuilder half strongman compared to my slim 88 when i was 20yo haha.
I really enjoy your video, was a nice experience, thank you!
I would like to ask: what time (morning, afternoon, night) could be the best time for running, specially if I am a beginner?
Thanks
Hey
My running schedule is different..
Monday Running than Tuesday Rest. Wednesday running than Thursday Rest(means one day running and next day rest)
What should I do..can I follow this schedule or change the schedule??
This vidoe makes sense why I feel like I can’t run more than a mile even though a couple of days ago I managed to push it to 1.5 miles, aka 2 kilometres, but it makes sense why I feel sore. I’m 15 btw and I’m skinny so I should probably be going further but lockdown stopped me from getting regular exercise cause I just didn’t at school and never really got outside unless at my mates house playing football, but I don’t want to take a day off cause I was feeling I’ll before I started (I’m only 5 days in)
I usually get light pain in the ligament the day after I go for short runs, any thoughts abought that?
Thanks for the video! I’ve always been above average at sports, but running is my nemesis. This is going to help me get better!
For long runs (tine-wise since people with longer proper experience tend to be more efficient at it and run longer while also faster) buy a belt (like the poach one in this video) but with a place for water. I have one that even came with two 150ml bottles one on each side but there are also those with a single one at the back and it’s usually a soft one.
Great video!
I’m on week 3 and I’m really enjoying it. I even ran through the cool down and then some today because I didn’t feel like I had had enough!
I want to do my first one for the 4th Quarter and begin consistency for 2020
“Walking is not a failure”
Thank you. It took me far too long to realize that. Once I did, I started having so much more fun.
Thank you for this motivational talk and tips of running. As you mentioned though, I have a few questions and would love it if you could answer some of them. A little background about me, I have just started running/light-jogging a couple of days back and cannot get a continuous run out. Could you please tell me a good time I can maintain at this stage to run and walk? Also, I have a bit of a flat foot on my left foot, so could you suggest a nice pair of running shoes for me? One that can give high arch support and be a good pair for runnign outdoors? Cushiony? Would appreciate it a lot to receive a response from you. Thanks in advance!
I just ran my first 5k (Humana 5k) on 06-15-19 and got first place in my age group (20-39), second place for female overall and fourteenth place in the race as a whole! I work at Humana, signed up because my coworker made the T-shirts for the 5k; I certainly wasn’t expecting to do so well! The thing is, before that day, I never ran or jogged; I just power-walk every single day. Be it on breaks at work or just walking around my family’s kitchen table, I must have been working my heart up enough and didn’t even realize my potential! I can’t wait to sign up for another one!
Bro, during the quarantine I forgot how to run, I tried running like usain bolt, landing flat on my feet, now my feet feels broken, I can’t even walk on it now, everytime I run it’s like lifting weights on my feet
“having learned the hard way myself” so Mark, what happened?:-) always keen to learn from others, having made mistakes myself and only gotten wise in hindsight
Ay carumba. Have to wade through so much hur hur posture isn’t just what your parents bugged you about! Here are fourteen synonyms for posture! Before we get to the content we came here for.
im a beginner but i run a bit as if im 60kgs but would u pls help me how to run a 800m race in the span of 2:00 or 2:20 sec like that…
At the beginning of the video, i was like Harry Kane is that you?
A short post-run yoga stretch for anyone who needs some inspiration:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y13aVHZbA8M&t=430s
I just started week 6 and I’m shooketh that I even got through day 3 of week 5 bc running for 20 minutes straight would have been impossible for me a couple months ago. I’ve really enjoyed this app. Still trying to figure out how to breathe better while running but I think I just need to continue figuring out what works better and build endurance.
Is she in America? I looked for the app and I couldn’t find that specific one
One day i was bored and i ran 2 km to home from school instead of walking it was fun i was like yeah boiii fast as f.. boiii
im trying to lose weight and my therapist said that running is great!! gonna go right now
I just ran my first 5k in Memphis and it was so hard! I’m addicted now!
Thanks for the help. Does anyone know how to help with shin splints?
Honestly I’m just too shy to actually go outside and run ;-;
Just did a run/walk for about 3 miles in under 45 minutes. For me and the shape I’m in that was a huge victory.
I feel like a FlipBelt really becomes an extra weight while running, making my tummy protrude out to support it:/
This video was a huge help, I’m always looking to improve my form and run as efficiently as possible Thank you!!!
My friends have been loving the couch to 5k apps. I started my running journey through orange theory so i don’t need the app, but this is a great tool to use to get someone coaching to motivate them! I love it! Congratulations
Nate. I just wanted to say thank you. You have really helped me tremendously. I have come farther than I thought I would be.
Now how to start swimming.
I can run a marathon but a 25 meter front crawl leaves me out of breath and dead.
We never see you running in a video… you might explain it good but examples are more usefull then chitchat…
Just discovered you guys. Great stuff. I am disappointed that the link for the two week program doesn’t work…is there a new link?
what is the best thing to motivate you to not stop running when u are going for a long run??
Im new to running and this video really helped me thanks for the techniques!
Anyone else was wondering if he took his shoe off in the middle of the road to show it to us or he had another one?
Man, you are truly great at explaining things, you get a sub from me. Thank you!
Thank u alot for ur amazing tecnics
This video was great fir me
I have always 2 problems when im running first is pain in ankels second is i cant breath easily even when i do all tips for breathing
I will try ur tecnics hope become better☘️♀️
Thank you so much for this!!!! I started IF a couple months ago then kinda winged off of it since being quarantine! But also during quarantine I’ve been walking more and trying to start running more. After watching this I want to start back IF. With that being said can you share what you eat during IF?
Is there any other apps like runtastic cause don’t think it’s available on android anymore
Great advice to build your stamina. I have done several marathons using the 10:1 method. Some, including me feel you can get better overall times using this method, using the walk breaks, since you do not get overly fatigued. The walk breaks help your body to recover, so you don’t bonk at the end of the race.
I’m a newbie runner, and had a fair few niggles particularly knees, but the one thing I have found most useful is warming-up with a few dynamic stretches before I head out. It makes my runs much more fluid. I have also learnt the importance of slowing down:-)
Totally agree with all the tips, on kit: I find a hat/visor or #buff cloth is definitely a recommendation to keeping out the sweat or even your hair out of your eyes. Goals are a must but it’s mostly about having fun #TheRunningChannel
You have no idea how much this helped me. I struggle with the last point you made, the voice that tells you to stop, sometimes even before I’m fully fatigued.
ran a 23 minute park run followed a guy who did a 24:10 and went with him for 2.5 miles and at the last stretch i see he is struggling i start randomly sprinting and get 92nd i’m 14 and looking forward to the future, and i used a lot of the tips from this video especially concerning pace definitely recommend you guys!
I like your video. It is really helpful. Things you show can apply for warm up session before running as well. I have a 10k run in 2 weeks. I wish i watched your video earlier:) great job at making great video
awesome tips for beginners. I realize I’m constantly learning and picking up tips. Even after 3 full marathons i can always implement something new. Thank you guys!!
It’s a Johnny watching the video of a wrist coach are telling us about the more money and I’m watching you know I don’t need this video I just wanted to say this this video is cool
You can def tell Ms. Hannah does strength training her legs r def the legs of women who squats.
bruh you look like aaron paul (jesse) from breaking bad lmaooo
Great video, do you have any suggestions on how to avoid getting shin splints, and how to get rid of them.
Start with easy and even intermittent runs on grass. When your endurance kicks on, include easy runs uphill with walking downhill. All that (especially when you run barefoot on grass) will build your feet strength and flexibility, as well as hardwire the proper running form into your neuro-muscular system.
I run cross country and one tip is the night before a race imagine yourself doing great in the race and finishing strong
How do i start when i’m a tall, underweight person who gets out of breath in 20s? Also my posture is quite awful
You feel sad when there is no 5k competitions or runs in your state in country and no one runs a 5k but you want to run and you don’t get a companion. It’s highly demotivating. Still I will try my best to run a 5k
i loved this vid!!! i’m also a runner and am training for a half marathon before the xc season!! congrats & good luck!!:)
Great video, needed that after a long layoff following a marathon last year.
This guy has no understanding of what he’s talking about, in fact he has anti-understanding, leaving his listeners worse off than they were before receiving this “advice”.
There’s one in 4 weeks and I can run 2 miles on a treadmill hopefully I can work my way up ^^
Your videos are the worst you don’t show any moving samples. You are a morron I ‘ve been wasting my time..i.
this is exactly the video i wanted to see!! i’m gonna do a turkey trot this fall i think!
Haha I have my phone tucked in my top..I’ll order one of those now
Amazing video
I’m training for my 1st 5K this info is super helpful
New subbie!
I was able to see full video!!! truly subject matter experts!! ENjoyed the video!
people always question me when i start running because im a kid
I have flat feet and boy did i have to push myself to get into it.
Wow. So informative. Been running incorrectly all the time…I’m a swimmer and dancer, this lockdown messed up my core…..going to work at it again
Running in the Third World countries cities are crazy, the cars dont respeta the people, there are not so many parks or places to run safe, we dont have special running stores to find good sneakers.
i’m 41, almost 20 years of gym and weights and i’m just starting out running and all i can say is knees knees knees ouch. i’m doing 5k twice a week but my last run was horrible………..just as typing this i got to the running shoe part of your video!
How do you deal with remaining consistent and staying motivated?Great video by the way
Fun fact: no research shows that special shoes “made for your foot type” lowers the risk of injury ( https://www.painscience.com/bibliography.php?richards09).
An advice that has worked for me (I consider myself a beginner runner) is to increase your running cadence (number of steps/min) to about 170-180/min.
an excelant video and fantastic presentation.very easy to follow instructions for me.many thanks. Sohail
I do have a question actually… What happens if you feel like you can’t breathe through your nose, like it gets stuffy when I run?
Did my first 5k 5weeks ago. Did first 8k 2 weeks ago. Today i did a 5k and later this day another 6k bc i felt i needed more. Running is addictive lol. Im still at slow pace around 5.30(min/km) but getting there and loving every moment^_^
Hey there, lots of valuable advice in this video, well done!
I do have one little correction to offer though: The examples of “SMART” goals you’ve given near the end of the video all aren’t fulfilling the “SMART” criteria.
Booking a race is specific indeed, however in what time do you want to complete it (M+A+R)? What’s the racing distance going to be, can you even finish it (R)?
Running continuously isn’t very specific to begin with (what constitute’s “running” in terms of pace?), “continuously” is not measurable (M) and there’s no set date given by which either the training is going to take place or a certain milestone has to be met (T).
Kind of the same principle applies for “getting fit” or “losing weight”.
Once again, I think this is all very sound advice you’ve given and I’m not trying to be annoying for the sake of it, but many people sabotage themselves during the early planning stages of a project (such as running or “getting fit”) by setting unobtainable goals for themselves, either by omitting the “R(ealistic)” section of goal setting or by defining entirely immeasurable and therefor literally unobtainable goals such as “getting fit”.
However, I only just stumbled upon your channel and I’ll go back to consuming now rather than nit-picking. Happy Christmas and stuff to you guys:o
Thank you for this video! I just started running and my first 5k is in 71days!
congrats on completing couch to 5K! I’m currently on week 7 and have just ran for 25 whole minutes without stopping! I was the same as you, couldn’t even run for the 1 minute in week 1, and when we had to do the first 3 minute and 5 minute runs I felt like giving up, but now I actually look forward to my runs and enjoy them so much. I think when you begin to make so much progress you feel more motivated, so my advice to anyone starting out is to NOT GIVE UP, because you can 100% do this, the app is designed for people who cannot run at all, so just follow the advice and make sure you don’t stop even if you want to!
I did a 5k and my hips are the only thing that’s sore so I’m watching this lol
When I start running.. my problem is not out of breath. My hips and leg feel so hurt until I feel that if I continue running I will fell down. Does anyone know how can I overcone this problem?
Great explanation in your video. Although I´m not a beginner I learned a lot. Now running feels faster and more like flying. Before it was more like stomping the ground. The muscles on the back side of my body now hurt more, too. With the faster cadence it´s me against my cardio again.
Don’t forget to warm down after the race, stretch and rehydrate.
Thanks Mark for encouraging moderation especially at the start.
When you were pitching swimming to the runners, I claimed to be a swimmer who needed convincing to run. Here is why I”m not persuaded by your excellent presentation.
Swimming at 60 lbs (27.2 kg) overweight was no particular risk to my ability to walk. Now that I’ve lost 1/2 that, I just tried running a small amount recently. I felt the added impact of my excess weight hitting an instant after each initial impact. There are specialized hammers that increase the force of each blow by having movable weight inside the head. That’s what I was doing to my ankles.
I just read Haruki Murakami’s What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. He talks about the impact of being 8 lbs. overweight on his running. I’m dealing with 4 times that weight which I believe to be 16 times the impact.
How about this for Tip #12? Lose weight first.
GTN does the best videos on how to swim freestyle. Until I get my weight back to what it was years ago when I did tree surgery for a living, I’m sticking with swimming.
Again like in the Mistakes video no mention of the most important ie Proper Running Form, technique (footstrike, stride, cadence, leg-arm motion, core,.. A lot of beginners get this wrong and could lead to injuries (happened to me with overstriding).
Awesome advice. Think I’m starting to hard. Going to take a day off in between. Thanks
yes! The running shoes is a must. I know depending how much you run, you do switch them out depending on the miles or every 6 months.
Just signed up for my first 5k. I’m not a runner. Ha! Not even a jogger and I have no clue, But I found a pair of running shoes in my closet that I’ve never worn (my husband bought them for me cause I said they’re cute 3 years ago) an app ( couch to 5k ) and this video!! Now I just need to do the work. Race is Aug 25th
I’ve just come across your channel! You’re so beautiful and seem so kind! Loving your content, you have a new subscriber ✌
Thanks for the video I managed to hit my PB of 5k but was then crippled with my knees for next 4-6 weeks, my cadence I think is to fast, might try short and sweet. Where is the link to start running to 5 k which you mention at the end.
thank you! I am on week 6 and knowing I will run 25 minutes without stopping is making me so nervous. That feeling of achievement once the week has been completed is amazing though!
I used the NHS Couch 2 5k Podcasts which are free to download. Laura talks you through the walking/ running offers great tips as the weeks go by and the music has been chosen to motivate/ encourage you to run. They also have a C25k Website and people have posted how it’s changed their life and the weight loss people have achieved. New Year and a new you. Good luck runners ♀️ ♂️
Bro I got tired just from looking at him doing all that running.
I love the way you move.Hehehe so cute when you did the wrong posture.
Did you just change the title to “2020”? Good thinking
I want to go on runs and get fitter, but I’m extremely introverted
im not confident to run in public and the only places around me are fields and this one lane with a farm at the end. im scared of both because I’m a teenage girl and i dont want to get kidnapped but want to run solo. does anyone have tips to get over this or is my fear rational?
I feel bad but I do like ‘picking people off’.
I take part in my local Park Run quite often. At the start, I try to get in my rhythm and pace. I try to stick with someone who is going at a pace I feel comfortable with. If I feel they’re going slow after some time, I pick them off. I then try to either stay ahead or catch up to the next person. I have found for myself that after some time, I am rarely picked off as I feel I have set a good pace for myself. I am far from the fastest but I like to think I have good stamina and pacing that no one catches up to me when I have picked them off.
Awesome!! I’ve been doing pilates, but I want to try something different and I’ve never actually been running! Thanks for sharing:) and so proud of you!!!
Today i have my first 5k
I am a athlete in my school and i am used to running 600m
I did my 5k and now my leg is hurting what do i do
I just purchased a flip belt for training for a half marathon and she isn’t kidding… It’s SO helpful!! For those of you training for longer distances, I’d recommend the flip belt and a camel back water pack. The flip belt CAN hold a small water bottle but it’s awkward and it could eventually cause chafing after a while.
Be consistent, just as the focus on the back of the subject!!!:)))) Jokes aside, thanks for your info, very good video!
I started toward running in January 2018. I had a lot of weight to lose. (Have succeeded!) Anyway, I just bought a pair of running shoes and built up from walking > fitness walking > jogging > something resembling running now 5-6 miles. I just did what came naturally, no coaching or instruction. This video showed me how my long yoga practice gave me a lot of the conditioning that supported moving from walking to running. What a discovery to love it beyond any possible expectations. At the age of 64.
I found your channel looking at transition to zero drop shoes because I quickly developed a neuroma. That series, and this one, gave me so much useful information that I wish I had tuned into earlier. And I learned about drills. Yay!
I look forward to viewing more. Your presentation is impeccable and I echo the comments about the quality of the sound in the beautiful outdoors.
I LOVE that you are filmed in the bay area. I run in Cesar Chavez park near the Berkeley Marina. It is a great area with the Bay Trail along 80-580, the pedestrian overpass and Aquatic Park.
But I’m terrified to run in my neighborhood because then people will see my legs jiggle:(
It’s weird, but I hadn’t run for 3 years, and the other day I ran my first 10k in 3 years, with a strapped up hamstring. My time was the 2nd fastest 10k I’d ever done. I don’t understand that, as I felt like wasn’t even trying. Bad hamstring, faster run what the hell?
Why do people need to make shirts, join groups, and set up a youtube channel for running 5k? I have been doing 5k regularly by myself at night….
part 1: you start running
part 2: you stop running
part 3: end
I’m half marathon training and honestly loved these tips super helpful to think about the simple details!! Much thanks xx
Lmaoooooo I was about to write down my why and immediately remembered the
“Why are you running?? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?” vine
Thank you for this, I’m looking for motivation before I start and this was great!
This video was so helpful, thanks for sharing your experience!
I should mention that I’m 35 years old and a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I’ve never really run before, but I think it would be a good supplement for my Tae Kwon Do training.
I can’t seem to progress. At first, I was running about 25% of the time, walking the rest. After a few weeks it was about 50/50. And now I’m stuck for a month. If I try to increase the run percentage, I get out of breath. I’m covering 5k three times a week but I really can’t get beyond this point, taking about 35 min. According to training charts, I should be mostly running by now. Do I push myself anyway, even if I’m clearly out of breath?
I just ran my first 5k on Saturday and I am in love! People were so supportive and I didn’t even know them! This channel has been so instrumental with my training..now training for 10k for April 2020 and Great south run on October 2020!
I started running last September doing the Cto5K app and signed up for the mad Santa Dash in Liverpool as a 2018 goal. Struggled with it as I’d only been running for a couple of months and hadn’t even finished Cto5K at the time but it was a lot of fun and I’ve kept at it this year, lost 3 stone and ran more 5Ks, collected some medals and t-shirts, working on my pace now and will be having another go at the Santa Dash this year with a better time hopefully. Ho Ho Ho.
i have been running on and off for the past 5 years…..maximum i have hit is 10 km which was back in 2016…..currently i am doing 4 km…..
the biggest tip that i can share is to go at a natural pace which feels comfortable for your body movement…..dont run too fast…think about the distance you want to hit and use your energy wisely….
another helpful tip that i found through my experience is that breathing through the nose is key….dont breathe through your mouth…and check your breathing rate when you feel that extra discomfort in your body while running….regain control of your breath while running only…….you will feel sudden recharge in your body
and one more useful tip is to think about something else while running…like when you want to control your urge during sex…..think about something that calms you so that your breathing is in control….that is key
I would like know how I can get 2 week strength program. I was not able to click on that video at the end to redirect to link.
Myself and thousands more managed to get to 5k or running for 30 minutes with the c25k. I started on the 1st October 2018 and 1 year on I’m still running ♀️♀️♀️
Those 30 minutes feel like five, tbh. Running really is a lot of fun especially if done in the early morning.
Ran my first 5k today, went from around 1.5 to 2.5 k and was confident I could do it. I prepared with a good nutrition and exercises for 4 weeks. My 5k target was to keep jogging, walking was not allowed, this made me conscious to not start too fast. In the end I ran a measly 32 minutes and 30 seconds. Not too bad, but I started so slow out of fear of having to walk, looking back I think I can sub 30 minutes. Still very pleased I jogged/ran for that long and reached my goal of not resting or walking underway. Nice video, greetings from the Netherlands.
Thank you very much for the video! I ran years ago and that pouch was an amazing tip! I am going to get back into it again with gyms being closed and what not. Respect and cheers!
I feel so ashamed when i run. It feels like People are juding me.
Do Someone have any tips?
I love running. Edit: you are very beautiful. Sorry if this is creepy. Or weird.
these guys should lissn more to goggins, they will get some help..
I’m 14 I play soccer and fit. I’ve never really ran a 5k but I have to for my school team. Do you think I can?
I need to run 5k next week. My colleagues pressured me to say yes and now im stucked.
I don’t think that I ever have run more than a kilometer in my life.
should i begin to run and train now? if i do, i think my body will hurt soo much that i wont be able to do it next week.
I did a slow jog today because of this video and it made me realized how much I missed running!
Does anyone have tips on running with exercise induced asthma?
Hello friends I star to train 5K and in 5 week my ankle is all swollen and painful I don’t want to stop… I really want to make it …please advise
Am I the only person who found the couch to 5k app useless, hated it, done a few 10k’s without it
Fantastic guide on when best to run I love a morning run 5k. I recommend #polarm430 #PolarVantageM #PolarVantageV GPS watch or #realbuzzapp to record your run. Definitely agree about kit #neverwearnew
This really helped me, I really want to start getting fit again, depression and social anxiety have really hurt my physique… Just kind of starting to think it is hopeless seeing as I can’t even run more than 30 seconds.
Loved your story! I started in 2014 lost over 60 lbs! I never thought I would become “addicted” to running” but i did. Then my Dad passed away Christmas morning in 2017. Was the hardest year for sure and it took me off my running program. Since then I’ve gained most of it back and since COVID 19 have picked it up again. I love it, but can’t seem to find the motivation to be dedicated like I was a few years ago. Thank you for this mini pep talk and reminder of why I am doing it anyways. Just subscribed and am looking foward to seeing what else you have in your motivation bank. Cheers!!
I’ve had asthma all my life. It was a lot worse when I was a kid, but it’s still there. I’ve never been able to run very far at all without getting completely out of breath. Nevertheless, I have admired people who seemingly so easily jog along the sidewalks, and HOW could they do it?? I realize that it does take time, and they have worked up to that point, which then deters me, etc. etc.
Super Glad to come across this video! This is perfect advice. Thanks for sharing:)
I ran my 5k with my friend. OMFG. we came in last. well there were a few old people like 90 years old behind us. I didn’t want to outrun my friend. I was there to support her. so I came in last with her.
Hi! You are really great. I like running but I couldn’t make it because whenever I start to run about 100 meters only I would get stomach pain. Is that because of I don’t perform a proper run or is there any other reason? How can I help myself to overcome this?
PLease, don’t recommend your shoes to others. It may suit you, but for someone else would be harmful
0:22 the begining runner’s quick guide to becoming roadkill… lol
Wow didn’t think that one would be available in the US as it’s made by the BBC. I’ve just done my mid week run of my 3rd week. Who are the coaches on yours? I had Sarah Milligan
Okay…you live in the UK. Just got to the bit about your pouch
There is a section on stretching in the app. Goto discovery and scroll right. It takes you to a lady on YouTube called Laura and she takes you through some simple stretches to cool down. Also any experienced runner will tell you to not do static stretches before a run. It can actually cause physical harm as it can stop the muscles from performing correctly. You can do kinetic stretches like a walking lunge that mimics a run. Static stretches should only be done after your warm down walk. I didn’t know that myself until I watched a video today by an pro runner lol
This app helped me lose 30lbs about 6 years ago. Granted I don’t use it anymore, I’ve only gained 9 back and that’s been over 4 years. Great app for starters though.
Amazing tips! I use your advice, makes perfect sense! Thank you!
i want to run but there are so many catcalleeEeErrrRrs it’s disgusting, honestly.
Great film guys! I’m working on a trail running equivalent of this for my channel right now too! Coincidence!
