I’m 5’4 use to weight 115. 10 years later having sleep apnea I am now at 196.
I feel like a mac truck.
According to a smart scale my ideal weight should be at 140. I want the 5 finger shoes to run at a grass park or high school track.
Try a bit of Yoga before running and if possible after. The Yoga warms me up and it helped me a lot cause one of the biggest mistakes was not warming up properly and running.
I’m about 180 lb and my calvess hurt and burn. is this normal? should I lose some weight then start to run.
On my feet 8 hours at a time actually, but I stand behind a desk. However, now that the winter is ending, I can do a 45 min walk to work every day.
Thank you for the video and helpful information. Very inspiring! Keep up the good work!
Start by walking…..then add walking stairs….then trot short distances….and eat fewer cals than you take in.
Full disclosure….April 2019 I weighed 260 lbs on a 5’10” frame and on BP meds lacking energy and worried about quality of my life. After single parenting, blending 8 kids in a second marriage, and then working to make ends meet my health was in question.
I went to a HS track, watched my heart rate go up, and walked. As weight started to come off, the heart rate went down. To get it up I added walking stairs. Then added some push ups and some flexibility work on the football field. By August I advanced to my very first 800 trot. It was all I could do, but kept walking. By October I ran my first 5K and by Thanksgiving I ran a 25:40 5k.
Now, at 185 lbs, I’m off BP meds and running 10ks for training and 8-10 miles on a long run.
It is not a miracle…it is work. It is a choice to live differently. And it is a choice to start. I’m 52 years old, and am very grateful that I made a different choice.
RUNNING AS A BIGGER RUNNER. YOU MEAN RUNNING AS A FAT ASS. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I’M A FAT ASS NOW I DON’T KNOW HOW THIS SHIT HAPPENED TO ME BUT I’M STRAIGHT UP 281LBS NOW I USE TO RUN 5 MILES AT FULL SPEED STOP AND TAKE MY SHOE STRINGS OUT OF MY SHOES CLEAN MY SHOES PUT MY SHOE LACES BACK ON WHILE I STANDED UP THE WHOLE TIME. NOW I’M CHOCKING AS SOON AS A START TO FALL ASLEEP OR LAY DOWN I. MISERABLE. GOOD VIDEO.
I do the whole body vibration plate. Works so well on getting muscle density without even trying.
As far as hydrating, besides water I only drink green tea. I’m probably missing out on electrolytes, sodium and other things essential to hard workouts but I much prefer it over energy drinks. Compared to the delicate, nourishing flavor of freshly-brewed Japanese Sencha, Gatorade tastes like gasoline.
Hi great video!! How do deal with lower back pain or any pain in your body. If you experience that at all???
Why am I getting shin splints and how can I avoid/prevent them??
Up until now my answer to that question has been “don’t” and there you go taking that excuse away from me.
My weight is 99.8 kg and height is 6″0 feet….Which Asics shoe will be good for me amongst Gel Kayano,Gel Nimbus,Gel Cumulus?
I’m a 13 year old teen that weighs 130 pounds….please end me
Bollocks! I was running at 130kg and my 5k was 36minutes. If you can walk, you can run!
Running doesn’t help you lose weight, nutrition does! You can for hours and not lose weight. If you eat in a caloric deficit, you will definitely lose weight!
I have no idea if I’m fat but i think i am i have it into a trail for a team its in 2 days and only 2 other people r going in my age group they r both really fit
I am 11 years old and 48kg and 155cm tall i can run but its hard

I’m 116 kg and I run 80 km a week. 4x15km and 20km once a week. I run with asics nimbus and try to focus on technic. no problems with joints.
Looking forward to your transformation Fro! Good stuff brother.
My biggest advise I tell every runner that’s beginning it’s not to run at anybody else’s pace example when you’re running in the a track and you have another runner go by you and beginning runners tend to feel like they have to keep up and all that’s going to do is get you tired faster and quit and it will disencourage you for future runs so remember the only person you need to compete with is yourself one last tip don’t live to eat eat to live hence eat smart
I believe coach Holly’s tips are critical not only for beginners but all runners of different levels as well. Thanks a lot! ❤️
I got bruises on my upper tigh and my leg muscle join hurt for days. So is it okay to just walking after recovery?
For anyone who is reading this and needs encouragement, I have run 15 half marathons and two fulls as an extremely obese person, and I am training for the Chicago marathon this fall. You can do it! Time on feet, strength training, and mobility are all part of the equation. You are stronger than you think!
Wow amazing!!! This is sure helpful 2 years ago I lost weight running everyday but as soon as I stopped I gained all the weight back this has motivated me to start up again!
Work in 120° humid environment, can attest to the gold Bond chaffing stick he had. Tried gels, powders etc nothing works like that stuff.
Zone training has changed my entire training. I used to go out and every run be as hard as I can (heart rate between 165 and 170) on every run. so stupid was never improving and constantly getting injured but now I train mainly at zone 2 with running and cycling and I’m so much more consistent and much less injuries. Great relatable video
Once again Great Tips. I’m going to try them. Power Walk, Sit Down Stand Up, Elevated Push Ups and Step Ups!
I’m 250 pds and I can’t even run for 30secs. It hurts my ankles and calves. I don’t even know if that’s normal but I run for 10-15secs and then walk for 2mins repeatedly.
I’m a 250 lb weightlifter and starting to run again to improve my breathing and to try to lose about 40 lbs of excess body fat. I used to be a very good runner in my teens and early-20s and then again in my early-40s, but I can only run an 11:30 mile now (max) and can’t run 2 miles yet at even 12:30-per-mile pace. I’ve started running after long layoffs many times over the years but this is the first time starting again at such a heavy weight. I found doing it every-other-day instead of every day helps as well as biking and hiking up hills for cross training on off days as it allows my joints and soft tissues to rest between runs. I also have always mixed sprint running days into my weekly runs over the decades where I only run short sprint repeats instead of distance. It really wakes up the leg muscles and provides much more range of motion than the slow jogging that is required when beginning a running program. It’s a running-specific form of strength training. I also think it’s wise to limit downhill running when overweight for the first few months.
Hi i am 12 yo and what i need help with is loosening my arms when i run because i always force my arms to swing and that makes me get tired faster so i think you should make a video on how to loosen your arms when you run and i am overweight because i am 168 pounds so please make a video on that
Thanks man. I forgot how much i have gone through in terms of running. I kept thinking that i didnt run enough, i didnt go fast enough. Until you say keep training log. I feel better now that i watch back my progress even though nothing seems change in me, but it helps me feel better. Thank you
Ok so first I got the same shoes, but feel like they are breaking down fast. I starting at 363 and recently joined a weight loss challenge at work. I battle shin splints like immediately when I start trying run workouts.
What are some tips that you have for running as a bigger runner?
I’ve just started moving on my treadmill. What is a good miles per hour speed to to set my goal for when I get to a jogging pace? I get confused by numbers within the running community like pace…I just know I can click 4 miles per hour or 8 miles per hour etc…I’m not looking to become an athlete I just want to know an average speed I should aim for. Thank you.
I was 17 stone when I started running 5Ks. I was 16 stone when I ran my first half-marathon. It is a mental thing…
OK so I am 249 pounds I am a linemen for football in high school I have breathing problems but I have lots of muscle but still get tired and fatigue i drink nothing but water and I also diet mainly meat and veggies I go to the gym 4 times a week please anyone I need help I love running and I push my self past my limits but go at my paste
Great advice in there Mark wisdom borne of experience. Run slow to go faster, love it. Interesting that you’ve (seemingly) dropped the Altra Paradigms for the Hoka Clifton’s though…although this is In keeping with the mix it up, ‘…keep the body guessing’ message I guess. I’ve had both these shoes… The Altra’s worked far better for me.. The Hokas just wore out too quickly. Hope they stand up better for you!
I usually put Vaseline between the thigh area and I wear the Hanes boxer briefs
This is great! I’ve been obese for over 10 years and always went back and forth with losing weight and gaining it back. It’s extremely difficult to run when you are big. At my heaviest I was nearly 320 pounds and I’m only 5’5 so it’s a lot of stress on my legs. I’m now down to the upper 250’s but my goal is 165. I’ve gone through several injuries and illnesses. Before the corona virus hit, I was averaging about 11-12 minutes a mile. That was late January then got bronchitis the first few days of February. It took all of the stamina I had built up and it was tough. I’ve been able to build some of that back up since all I can do is exercise. Today I ran 2 miles in under 24 minutes which is great. I’ve averaged about 3.4 miles for the for the last few weeks (I take the average based on the days I run 5-6x weekly), so it has helped me with my shorter runs which I save for the weekends. I have found that green smoothies have helped with keeping my stamina (kale, green apples, broccoli, spinach, mangos, strawberries, chia seeds). I drink one about 30 minute before my run. Anyways keep it up dude. There will be days where it will suck but the small gains will feel awesome and will serve as motivation. We got this
this guy knows what he’s talking about. Simple smart and great advice for everyone
The One and only tips. Stop EATING a lot. Run regularly. Everything requires a balance.
Add P90X to your work out life style, it really helped him be me a foundation when I first got into being fit
Oh I wish I could run with my dog she runs as fast as a car but when I put her on the leash she sits down and chokes her seals on the collar
Just subbed man this helped me a lot! The Walk before you can jog, jog before you can run thing stuck with me. Thank you so much.
1. Walk before you can jog and jog before you can run.
2. Run in the right gear.
3. Use anti-chaffing products.
4. Join a running group/club.
5. Don’t care what everyone else thinks.
Feck the haters..great vid mate and have subbed your adventures..big guy here from Uk 135 kg ish
Yay glad to see you back on the Tube!!
Such an encouraging story please make more videos even if it’s fashion or music !
It’s ok to walk. Actually very good advice. Not at lot of people realize that.
I’m 1,86m, 121kg and my Achilles tendons kill me 2km into running and no idea why. Getting a little better on my time, was 42min and now 35min
Bumped into your video because I just started three weeks ago. Actually beginning to like it. Stamina is increasing significantly, scale decreasing not yet. (Would like to lose 10 pound) But getting fitter is worth more then getting smaller! Sending you lots of respect!
This is encouraging. I used to run 6miles a day and I was 190 and I’m 5″6. Thats like a great weight for me. Now I’m 240 and I started running again, I’m doing 3 miles for now. The endurance is still there, hopefully some weight loss soon too lol. I’m really enjoying my runs, but even at 190, I never had that runner body. Thought I was the only one
Foam rollers!! Best $20 ever spent. It is a life saver for the night before and after a morning run.
Awesome video as usual! I am a walker moving into running, so this video is a good start for me. I don’t plan my workouts, so a lot of times they don’t happen. Yeah, a lot of good stuff here. What water bottle did you use in this video?
Very good video definitely I’m going to start running again it’s not easy I’m 1m75 105 kg but I love the feeling at the end of a run
The beginning part thoroughly earned you a subscribe . Can’t wait to watch the rest of the video!
2 minutes into my run and my shin muscles are so tight I can’t continue. I take a 2-minute break then I’m ready to go again6 rounds. I’ve been doing a walk run interval training for 5 weeks but the shin issue is stopping my progress. Any suggestions?
i’m conflicted i like the advice as i’m kind of in that position, but those giant mirror sunglasses are awful look like a clown and signal detachment from your audience (“i can see you, but you can’t see me” type of thing)
If at all possible, go to a dedicated running store for shoes. Yes, they tend to be more expensive, but most general sporting goods don’t have the expertise or the selection to get the right shoe. This is especially true if you need wide widths or have specific issues.
Great tips coach! You know, i’m 46 now, i want to start running again, i need to recover from knee injury (both), i wonder if you have some advice for a guy like me. You’re beautiful! thank you.
I couldn’t run til I was about 260lbs and maybe a max mile at a time. Around the 220s was when I was able to run more then that.
I started out at 273 and now I am 162. I did 16 8 and now I am on the OMAD. I am a runner too
From experience, you can be overweight and still be very fit! It’s all about conditioning! If you run regularly, you will condition yourself to be a proficient runner despite body type!
I did a 14k race in 2 hours at 100kg/164cm. I ran the whole time as well, not very fast, but still ran. So don’t make the assumption that fat people aren’t going to be running more than a mile. Not true at all.
I am very happy for you, just started my journey. Been back and forth with journey and I’m ready to just let God guide me on this new chapter. Good luck to you.
Great demonstration all time having a great regards for your efforts
I love the practical advice in this video. Really important tips, especially number 5. Thanks for this. instant sub.
Such a great channel. There isn’t enough of this type of content for people that are bigger, and not severely out of shape. I can only draw so much inspiration and information from a 150lb person’s fitness experiences. Keep it up please.
I’m Uk based and where I live everyone is a runner I’m 5”11 and around 208 but still feel huge compared, some great tips on here! Got a 10k very soon
I am 244 and i can last 2 and a half miles sweating and getting tired on the last half
Great tips. Have you ever shown your medal room? I don’t remember seeing it before. Impressive.
I swear by the under Armor compression 3/4 shorts. I call them “dick bandages”
I’ve lost over two stone from running, and now do 5km most week days, with the odd 10km in for a change. Make a route that you can do walking, then add a little section where you jog, and then keep adding until you can jog the route. Keep doing that to build up a baseline, and then add a little extra to the route each week until you hit your goal etc. That’s how I did it. Lots of running the same route so that you know that you achieve the shortest route, and then add more each week, slowly and gradually, and then you’ll have a route that does something like 2.5km or 5km, and then you can add more laps etc. PS: no music, get used to listening to your breathing and find a rhythm that works for you. Even if you have to go really slow the trick is to never stop moving, don’t stop and take a breath etc, just slow down to a walk and walk in the rest of the route. That will help to keep your mind focused on completing the course you’ve laid out. If you stop and start a lot you’ll never build up a baseline and you’ll defeat yourself mentally before you’d given yourself a fair chance of completing the task at hand. Good luck!
Wait how overweight are we talking?
I can do squats but 20kg overweight
I hate running, but I love walking. It’s just because I’m too jiggly.
I am 200 pounds and I’m trying to lose it even though I get tired fast and sweat alot
Hey bro great video! Im just getting into running what can I do about legs itching when I run?
Love it, hi we’re a smartwatch brand-Fitpolo, we’re doing promotion on Amazon, so we’re wondering if you’re interested in collaboration, could you reply or give us your email, thank you!
I keep asking questions, and i appreciate the help and that being said….
I’m an ok runner, long distance and short
I can run for miles and preform body squats with little issue.
If i add weight to my squats, even just the bar with 0-10lbs I get excruciating pain in my hamstrings. It feels Almost like they’re stretching and snapping like rubber bands(is the best way i can think to explain it)
I can usually push through it and add weight(not much)
But its a workout/run killer. My legs remind of my 30milers….
I already stretch, i follow your videos and try to keep working on them, but i cant shake the feeling that i might be messing something up.
Im familiar with the soreness from when i lift other muscle groups and thw feelings are not the same
Chafing fucking sucks, compression shorts are a must… even that runners nipple shit kills
Haha! I went straight in to doing a 5k at 310lb. I defo relate
Thank you this was great. Only thing I’d add is for women get SUPPORTIVE BRAS. Amazing video
It’s difficult to be a runner when you live somewhere that it’s snowing from end of September until mid june
Good tips!
When you are transitioning from walking to jogging, think in terms of a short step shuffle that minimizes impact. Look up chi running. Avoiding injuries should be a big priority. When something is hurting, stop running and start walking and see if it clears up. Keep your heart rate relatively low, even if it means mixing in a fair amount of walking. Look up MAF heart rate training.
Any suggestions for over the counter orthopedics for flat feet?
I currently workout 5 days a week I’m starting the beg run program me tomorrow and not sure what to do?? Do I stop my other stuff and just to run programme or how do I fit it all in??
Mate, thank you for this. I’ve lost 3 stone in the past 4 months or so on the 80/10/10 Vegan diet and I’ve kinda plateaued at 18 stone (114 kilo). Still got a bit of thigh and belly fat on me. Been cautious to run because of looking silly, getting out of breath fast, and being a danger to my bones and joints but to know you were slightly heavier has meant I can probably hobble along a field for an hour or so and see where I get. Cheers man.
I love your videos! They’re super relatable and you have a great, genuine personality! Thanks for sharing!
I had been curious because my friend had dropped weight and I planned to know how. When mention of a diet was brought up I immediately went right to google checking into this “sowo hope site” diet. As soon as I listened to their guidance, I lost 14 and a half pounds.
Hey man. I know I am a bit late to this thread but I really need some good advice. I weighed 123kgs and I am only 5 ft 8 and I picked up running to try and lose weight. At first I almost gave up because after running for around a minute I would be completely exhausted and would have to walk then try to run again. I wasn’t very serious with it until about 4 months later when I was able to complete a mile without stopping running at 14 minutes per mile. Then I got the Nike App and then started the 5k training.
Fastforward to now (a year later) and I have run two unofficial half marathons (slowly tho) but I struggle with losing any more weight and getting faster. Currently weighing 102kgs and I have been here for a while. Fastest mile is around 8 minutes 23 seconds but about 35% of that is my running downhill. However I struggle to maintain any fast pace for very long. Fastest pace I can hold for a prolonged period is 11.40/mile.
My eating is not excellent but it isn’t bad. I always make sure to not consume too many calories and I hit the gym around 3-4 times a week to do some weight training (but I avoid doing any leg training because I need them fresh for my runs).
Any tips on how to get faster and lose another 20kg without losing muscle mass by running longer? I can hold the mouds of fat all round my thighs and mid section. Doesn’t want to go away:(
Did you have a fear of people judging you, etc.? How do you get over that? It makes me mad when I go to the gym and get laughed out. I’m trying to better myself, but I’m afraid to walk through the doors.
I run on a treadmill now. I’m 360 pounds. My personal best is 10:58. I’m careful and listen to my body.
Hi I want to get into running but every time I start my runs breakdown after about 3 minutesany help or advice please?
Not helpful to me. I was hoping for more on actually running. I feel there is little on YouTube for beginners and those who are older or overweight. There is a lot to talk about for these people. I discovered I was running too fast and slowing right down made a big difference to my progress. I think the talk test is too random. Get a tracker that can tell you what heart rate zone you are in and run to keep it in the lower zones. Run walk does not build up enough stamina after the first few runs. Go slow and then sneak in some faster sections occasionally.
I am 67 and carry a stone too much. I run in high heat and humidity. The rules for that are way different than for all the skinny young men who dominate the running forums etc.
Coach Holly, because of TRE and you specifically, I have been able to drop 50lbs and I am now a runner! At the start of this year, I wasn’t even able to run 1/10th of a mile without walking. Now I can run a slow 5k without dying. I cannot say thank you enough!!! You have changed my life.
I’ve started out by running to the stop sign and back. Now I’m up to 2miles and pretty much after that.
Did you have any knee pain when you started running at 117kg? It’s more of an uncomfortable feeling for me, but I’m wondering if this is one of those things I should just truck on through or if I should stop.
Amazing story hun loved this video keep it up sometimes the hardest part is to keep going and not give up
I liked the intro. You also have a ridiculous number of medals. Great tips for sure!
Hey man could you help me? I weigh about 80 kilos and I’m 6 feet tall. I wanna join the military so I need to lose like 5 or 6 kilos but the problem is I can’t do pushups and stuff and don’t have access to a gym. I currently try my best to run atleast 1km a day and I do diagonal pushups daily. My diet is healthy and consists of lots of vegetables. Only junk goes that goes in my body is Pepsi once every now and then which I’m gonna stop. Any thing else I should do? Any exercises to build triceps strength.
What about running with cleats. And pads. And a lacrosse stick
I started walking 7 weeks ago with 137kg. I was able to walk 5km in one hour, today I am able to walk 10km in 1 1/2 hour without feeling like I’m dying. At least I lost 13.5kg in the last weeks but my journey will go on for a while:)
One day I WILL be able to run a marathon. Even if I will be the last finisher. I CAN, I WILL & I DO!:)
(Excuse me for my english 😉 I’m from Germany!)
will i am overweight and have lost 70lb ( my DR. is very happy) in a year training for the The Bank of America Chicago Marathon USA yes I am very slow and it will take 11hr or so to finish it but I am going to try!
Okay, can i just say that you made me cry. I feel attacked in your videos because I am in the shoes you were in. I got on a scale at drs office when i came in for blood pressure issues and i tipped the scale at 371. I BAWLED my eyes out and went into this HUGE depression mode. I have two kids and a husband and I told myself. Dude, you need to stop being so selfish and take care of yourself more than you are. YOU HAVE A FAMILY THAT NEEDS YOU, you have kids that need you around as long as possible. (My daughter, by herself, does exercises randomly almost every day, and told my husband she does them so she wont be fat like mommy and started crying to him. It took him a hot minute to tell me that and i just broke down SO BAD. It is so easy to just grab food from somewhere for everybody on the way home from a 12hr shift at a job thats an hour from home. I stopped and starting dieting and lost like 19lbs eating like a bird. But I eventually fell off, of course, because life got in the way. I had stress hitting me from every single flippin direction and I said the hell with the extra effort to come home and eat super healthy. I can’t afford to keep buying food that nobody else eats. So the start of this year, I tols myself START BACK UP TUBBY. (Lol) and I did. I am at 356 currently. I gained back some of what I had lost in 2019, but I am STILL FIFTEEN POUNDS LIGHTER than the heaviest I have ever been. You look back and think, how in the HELL did you let yourself get like this. Well, i did, and i cant turn back time. I can only move forward. So I am doing that. I have been doing keto for about a month and i lose a few lbs, then gain them right back and it infuriates me seeing everyone else lose the weight and not me. You are a GOD

I have a general question or comment and I am looking for advice. I am interested in running, I just started the other day and I am having a terrible time! When I start running I often have low energy, my muscles and joints ache and I am out of breath. I am on a WFPB diet for a year and I have been lifting weights and using things like the elliptical or brisk walking on an incline for years. I am not sure why I feel so bad when I am running but it’s very discouraging. I am wondering if I am eating the right foods before or a run. Some people say caffeine helps with energy levels while running. If anyone could give me any advice I would definitely appreciate it.
During my first 5k I was 14 and went with my athletic friends. Their was a golf cart that would go around the track and pick people up that didn’t want to run anymore. They kept asking me if I wanted to run still because I was dead last. I kept running and crossing that finish line was the best feeling ever
Hi there to all of you at the running Experience. Great tips and videos on running. I started running about 3 months ago injured my IT band. Started following your advice and i dropped 12 kg in three months. We ran our first 10 km last Saturday amazing what a little coaching can do. We ran a 4 km the day before and on Sunday a 5
km slow jog and walk. Thank you its really encouraging. Im 53 and first time running love it.
Started at 330lbs….ended at 196lbs. Because I started when I was overweight, it buffed my calves, thighs and shins… its like putting a short block 400 engine in a Kia Sorento.
Thank you! Loved this info! Was wondering though, could you do a video on just coming our of ankle surgery with injured tendons and swelling, getting into rehabilitation and back to walking / running. I had surgery Jan. 2. Today is my last Dr visit before rehab. I used to mostly walk 11 miles a day. Had just started to run. I’m scared. Im eager. And I just want to get back to where i was and even better. I was training for my first 10k and was walking /running 11 miles in under 3 hours. Need some help here!
2 years ago after my 2nd baby I was 22 stone. now I’m 20.1 stone. I want to start running and this video has totally given me the boost and encouragement to get it started:D thank you.
Woot! Woot! I got to know you from Instagram! I love you and your wisdom!
I started watching you last July. I’ started IF because of you. I started very loosely (IFing three times a week) because I knew that if I went gung ho, all in, I would probably not stick with it. It’s been seven months and I’ve lost 33 pounds. Every month I add a little more “structure” to the plan and it’s been fabulous. For the first time in over 10 years my 26/28 Lane Bryant clothes are too big and I thank you for mentioning in this video that you were that size too! You look fabulous! This month I will try and add a 5 minute jog to my daily walks twice a week after seeing this video. Thank you for continuing to be an inspiration to us girls who started well over 300 pounds. Seeing that it can be done by someone who at one point looked like me is very motivating. God bless you KimberFitGirl!
If you got flat feet. Asics or New Balance “preferably Asics” is the only shoes you should be wearing. Wore Nike for years and they felt terrible but I just toughed it out. Found Asics and now I’m not hurting.
Okay, I think I’ll give it an actual shot. You’ll be the little angel on my shoulder cheering me on, k? Lol ♡
I use my music to determine how much i jog. I jog and stop. I jog one song walk one song. Lol
I am an overweight runner who is on week 5 of C25k, and I just got an actual pair of nice running shoes which is a game changer
I wanna run again. In my teens I used to weigh 115 and run miles every week. My running time was 6:20 per mile. I have smoke for 20 years and now I’m over 220 pounds. I just quit smoking last week and I wanna run again but dam I don’t know where to start
