A muscle in the quadriceps, the rectus femoris muscle is attached to the hip and helps to extend or raise the knee. This muscle is also used. The rectus femoris muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles.
It is located in the middle of the front of the thigh. It is responsible for knee extension and hip and thigh flexion. It is the main muscle that can flex the hip. 1 .The rectus femoris muscle is one of the four quadriceps muscles of the human body.
The others are the vastus medialis, the vastus intermedius (deep to the rectus femoris), and the vastus lateralis. All four parts of the quadriceps muscle attach to the patella (knee cap) by the quadriceps tendon. The rectus femoris is situated in the middle of the front of the thigh; it is fusiform in shape, and its superficial fibers are arranged in a bipenniform manner, the deep fibers running straight (Latin: rectus) down to the.
Quadriceps femoris muscle, large fleshy muscle group covering the front and sides of the thigh. It has four parts: rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius.Rectus femoris. This muscle originates in your hip bone and attaches to your kneecap.
It also partially covers the three vastus muscles. The rectus femoris muscle is the large quadriceps muscle that runs down the center of the front of the thigh. It is a biaxial muscle meaning it crosses two joints; the hip and knee joints.
It is used to straighten the knee (knee extension) or lift the knee up (hip flexion). The rectus femoris muscle is one of the four muscles that make up the quadriceps at the front of your leg. The best rectus femoris exercises are those that work the knee and the hip, as this muscle moves both joints. Strengthening the quadriceps may also help prevent injury, especially in athletes. Video of the Day.
It is subdivided into four separate muscles (the ‘heads’): • Rectus femoris occupies the middle of the thigh, covering most of the other three quadriceps muscles. It originates on the ilium. It is named from its straight course.• The other three lie deep to rectus femoris and originate from the body of the femur, which they cover from the trochanters to the condyle. The rectus femoris is part of a group of muscles in the thigh that helps you flex your hip, extend the knee, and lift the thigh.
But, what happens when it.The rectus femoris is the only muscle in the quadriceps femoris group that crosses both the hip and knee joints. It is a fusiform muscle, meaning the belly of the muscle tapers into a narrower tendon on both ends. The quadriceps femoris is the largest and heaviest muscle of the body. It is situated on the front of your thigh and consists of four muscle heads.
Muscular dysfunctions, tensions and trigger points can lead to pain in the entire thigh and knee. With a self-massage you.The rectus femoris muscle is the most anterior and superficial of the quadriceps muscle group. The other components of the quadriceps mechanism are the vastus medialis (with its distal, oblique component), vastus intermedius and vastus lateralis.
At the distal thigh, the tendons of these muscles merge to form the quadriceps tendon. The rectus femoris can be found smack dab in the middle of the thigh. This long, spindle-shaped muscle inserts itself in the base of the patella or kneecap where it attaches via the quadriceps tendon. It originates near the hip bone at two distinct areas including the acetabulum and the iliac spine. The rectus femoris and the quadriceps femoris.
The rectus femoris is part of the quadriceps femoris muscle group, along with the 3 “vasti” muscles: the vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius and vastus medialis. The rectus femoris is the only muscle of the quadriceps that attaches to the pelvis. The three vasti attach to the top of the femur. The rectus femoris, the largest of the four, crosses over the hip and works with the iliopsoas muscle, located in the pelvic floor, to produce hip flexion.
When quadriceps muscles are overworked from athletic movements such as jumping, running or weight training, they can become tight and inelastic and exert imbalanced tension at the joints.

Thanks for the video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you tried Parlandealey Active Life Process (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great one off product for learning how to stop feeling tired minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.
Hello, hello! This has been the last video on the functions of the muscles of the quadriceps femoris. Hope you enjoyed seeing the rectus femoris in action. Don’t forget to check out our website for the full version of this video and many more 3D anatomy videos. Even without becoming a Kenhub Premium member, you can still learn anatomy with us. So check out this free article on the quadriceps femoris muscle: https://khub.me/p98gr Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Passive insufficiency and active insufficiency are not mention in most leg training routines. It would be appreciated of you could do a video on other two joints muscles and explain how to train them in various ways. I think the hamstrings would be a good example.
thank u so much for this video and your videos are awesome.i always prefer to watch your videos before reading books thanks once again
Thank you so much for making these!!! you don’t know how much your channel has helped me
Do you think if you did leg raises with straight legs, because you had already extended the knee, you would then be most likely using the illiopsoas muscle more than the rectus femoris?
Thank you so much my understanding of the topic has increased so much
Thanks… I got sleepy though.. hehehe.. too much jargon..:)) But i’ll save this for future
I like your videos and how you explain but you always seem tired SMILE
Very helpful, thanks! I suck at leg raises, and a weak rectus femoris might be part of the problem. Also, you’re hot!
a good video but extremely irritating the way the text covers the muscles as shown in green!!
Im trying to see which parts of the quad are which but all the charts that show the muscles are drawings of people that have 1lb of quad muscle per leg
I mean that guy has a really nice muscular body that is anatomically visible and easy to distingush
Why don’t u guys make a surface anatomy playlist with people who have good muscular and bony landmarksincluding this guycuz i suffer so much when it comes to finding good videos about surface anatomy
Hope u see my comment and just pay a little attention to my suggestion please
Hi everyone! Hope you had fun learning the quadriceps femoris muscle. Is there any other muscle you would like us to cover? Let us know! 02:33 rectus femoris does a little bit of hip flexion

I thought I had pulled a Kevin Nash but it was just strained. Thank God
Yes. I agree. Thanks for the time and care you put into these. I eagerly await all your videos and go straight to them the moment I see them posted, Best to you and whoever is helping you.
external and internal rotation of knee joint or hip joint??:) my knee doesn’t want to perform any of that:)
At 2:35 he is talking about the articularis genus, not the vastus intermedius. I was confused at first because the graphic and the heading refer to the vastus intermedius while he talks about the articularis genus.
make more and more like these, so beautiful! so helpful for my studies!!! <3
Will the knee extension part still strengthen if I focus only on hip flexion on the rectus femoris?
can u make a video on great sephanous vein and inguinal ligament
Thank you for your excellent series in anatomy. Very good didactics, easy to follow, very informative.
In case of evolsion fracture, if the muscle has pulled on the fractured attachment site, and subsequently there is some space between the chipped bone and the main bone, how does it heal? Don’t they have to be brought together to heal?
Thank you for sharing this video. Very well-explained. But if you are willing to look for further information about human anatomy and physiology, try to search it on google. There, you can find as much information as you need. I highly recommend “Grathaw Simple Anatomy Expert”.
As a new study suggest the quadriceps femoris composed from five heads, if you want to understand better the relationship between the fifth muscle of quadriceps named Tensor of Vastus inter mediums and the adjacent muscles please check the study below

i had practiced too much workout. which vastus intermedius muscle rupture since three or fourth months before now, and i take one month rest and it s repeat feel bad. take one month and repeat again and again. i see a doctor and he just give me a leg protector. any solution please!
Thanks for the Rectus Femoris information. I attached an ankle strap to do standing cable unilateral leg extensions as my last exercise.
