Possible explanations include muscle weight gain, water retention, post-workout inflammation, supplement use, or even undigested food. Here, four things you need to know according to experts if you’re gaining weight while working out and eating healthy. 1. Water Retention After Exercise Water can alter your weight by as much as 10 pounds (or more). You will gain weight from lean muscle mass that you add by building your muscles with exercise or weightlifting.
But this won’t happen right away. It will take you at least a month or two to add any lean muscle mass that would show up in your weight.2. You’re gaining muscle. Another reason you could be gaining weight working out is that you’re building muscle faster than you’re shedding fat.
The general consensus in the fitness community is that the most muscle weight someone who is new to fitness will gain is about two pounds a month, but that’s not a hard-and-fast number. Why Do You Weigh More After Working Out? I get it Taren but the amount of pills
you are taking is a big NO NO rest, balanced diet, more rest, more
balanced diet, and low-to-no impact active recovery to keep neuroplasticity in motion cheaper and far more effective. How? Because I’ve been where you are (blood panel and all) and that’s the only thing that worked, not more foreign substances (even heavy doses of vitamins such as the C you are taking)
Evolution sucks. Bodies haven’t caught up to our sedentary lifestyle. I lost 100 pounds twice then gained it all back again. Did it first in 2002 when I was 19, then again in 2006. At age 37 I’m going to try again. I already lost 20 pounds over the course of a year just by cutting a few things out. Isn’t enough. Going to start working out again. If I can lose this weight I will not fall into the same trap.
thanks for sharing your story. it opens up how strong you really are as a person. much respect taren!
Even though I try to stay away from unhealthy food and mainly do HIIT and strength training, the scale says I gained fat and lost muscle mass. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for this video, I’m so discouraged right now… but NOT giving up!!!! I am overweight 31 year old, was 205 when I started working out about 3 weeks ago and have been going back and forth 195-198. haven’t seen the scale drop, I weighed myself today and I’m back at 200 pounds:(. I will say I have been doing intense training and hiking everyday eating 1500 calories and writing everything I eat. I have been feeling way better, have more endurance and feel the soreness and my muscles growing but I know I have to be patient hopefully the scale drops in a couple of weeks…
Thank you so much for this video. So tired of everyone just saying lower your calories or work harder. I am a fan of you saying that you don’t have to be in excruciating pain to make gains. In the past, that has been very true for me, and pain has led to injury. It’s just my body. Annoying, but true. So I am totally with you on the not buying into the “no pain, no gain theory.” So, I didn’t change my eating at all, but I did add in some running and upped my weights a bit. Suddenly, I gained 6 pounds over about two weeks. I could tell it was not all muscle. It was water. My blood sugar is great. It wasn’t that. So this is fascinating. I have been more sore, and my body does tend to get inflammation quite easily (so I increase my workouts very slowly). But what you are saying here makes sense. I’ll hold on and see if, as I get used to my increases, if the weight falls again.
I totally for that thinking how insulin works helped me lose all my baby weightthanks for reminding me! So much more fun eating this way look forward to the next video
With intermediate fasting 14/10 I lost very easily 10 kg in one month. But…. no more.what I gained is the familiarisation with fasting but I do not think I could lower further my weight
Why do you do that Rude shoot where you look away from the camera and still talk to us? Why don’t you do the same shot but look at the camera? I do not get how being Rude is a thing.
Rando guy on the internet who switched to a whole foods plant-based diet almost 2 years ago and my blood markers, my weight, how I feel, and the inflammation/arthritis have never been better for me. It’s no wonder the longest living populations on earth eat like this. The diet also helps to align your actions with your morals w/ regards to animals and the environment. GL in your recovery. I’ve found your heart rate and HRV vids very informational.:)
I’m sorry to tell you but, information in this video is COMPLETELY wrong and actually opposite. It’s the calories that matter in the end and not your insulin levels. Yes insulin is a storage hormone but, this is simplistic way of looking at it and in the end if you over eat calories from fat, you will store it without insulin and if you under eat carbs you will loose weight even with presents of higher insulin. When protein and calories are equal you can eat whatever combination of carbs and fats that you want and results will be identical. Of course some foods are healthier than others but, as far as loosing weight it’s about energy balance.
How does someone who’s never had diabetes, doesn’t consume any carbs, only eats one meal a day manage their insulin level. What are they supposed to do. Where do they find their insulin level to manage it?
D-vit was low, DHA was low, no neurotransmitter, cortisol low/adrenal fatigue and mitochondrial dysfunction. I think you hit every crack pot, pseudo intelectual, bro science talking point there is lol The bullshido was strong in this vid.
Just eat real food and have a regular normal life. Dump all those pills.
Its incongruent to see skinny pics of you in the promos of your videos and then see you are heavier now. I understand why you may do this to attract viewers but these mixed messages send conflicting messages to viewers
Glad I’m watching this kind of freaking out with the numbers but looking great
Dude, this hits home……I have been going through the exact same thing and couldn’t figure out the “why”
Same with me. I’ve been muscular for years, but I started training differently since three weeks quarantine. My diet and caloric intake has not changed, my measurements are THE SAME, my clothes STILL fit. But I’m not a beginner. I’ve gained 4 pounds in three weeks. But I’ve been in a lot of pain and soreness especially this week. It sucks. I hope the weight gain goes.
Thank you so much! I’ve been working out really hard recently, doing new things ive never done before and because of it my muscles have been killing me. I haven’t checked my weight on the scale but I’ve but noticed I’ve been looking bigger than normal and I couldn’t explain why! I’ve been eating right and in a caloric deficit and I’m only in the first 2 weeks of a new regime but I think this explains it, thank you!
Hi Taren very proud of you for sharing your this. Yes “No pain no gain” does not work and is wrong. Further when I became Plant Base 6.5yrs ago. I receive all these nutrients your speaking of in food. I agree step backs are vitally important!
tHIS TRULY HELPS TO CLARIFY THINGS FOR ME I HAVE BEEN WORKING OUT SO MUCH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 20 YEARS AND I GAINED 4 LBS OVER NIGHT WTF!!!!! I WAS SO PISSED OFF AND DISCOURAGED. THIS HELPS SO MUCH TO KNOW.
Begs the question, are extreme endurance sports good for you? Would you be better off just running or walking 5-20 miles per week and lifting weights every other day?
Thank you for this! Started diet this week and had no cheats all week. Yesterday was a serious leg day and I was super excited to weigh-in today. No cheating and super sore quadsI was ready to see losses, and instead was totally crushed when the scale showed no difference. First inclination was to fall into a vat of hamburgers (thankfully, I did not) your post gives me fresh hope.
They always do say you gotta get bigger to get smaller, I was getting big the first week I had water retention like you discussed, I didnt give up. Now im more slim and cut a month later.
Great to see such an honest video about how you are feeling. Everything starts with gut health. Let real food be your medicine and try and move away from supplements. Check out professor Tim Spector and Dr Greger…great simple info on all things nutrition. Best of luck on your recovery journey.
Wow, am I glad I found your channel. I’m actually going through this process right now. All of a sudden, I gained three pounds and I know I was careful about tracking my meals over the holidays because I’m doing the WW freestyle blue plan and I’m following that carefully. It all started after going back to the gym the day after Christmas when I started to increase my duration on my cardio from thirty minutes to an hour, on the stationary bike, doing the random hill program. I’ve also increased resistance on quite a few resistance machines these past few days. And yes, I do have some soreness in my abs and quads, due to the increase of activity. I will definitely keep going with my regimen, because I’ve seen that with a lot of hard work and dedication, anything is possible. So far, nearly fifteen pounds lost, and when I drop those last few that I found lately, that should equal almost twenty pounds lost. I also looked at myself in the mirror and my mom says I don’t look like I’ve gained anything, Clothes are loose too. Thanks for posting this.
Awww we have the same type of all American pit. Chapin color!
Thank you so much for this video, I’m at week three i lost 4lbs the first week and now the scale is going up and I’ve been the same thing. But i just have to push through
I use MSM supplement after my workouts. It really helps me. If it wasn’t for MSM I would have quit working out.
Crap when she said Dommes I thought we were going to take about S&M.
Thankyou for making this I was having such a hard time keeping up with my new routine
Thank you. I feel so much better now after watching this vid. I went on the scale yest morning and dropped 3 lbs then went straight to the gym and incorporated some strengthening exercises and ate a lot less calories than the day before. I jumped on the scale this morning and gained back the 3lbs overnight and I was like WTF?!?!
Now it makes sense. You gave me the motivation to keep doing what I’m doing. I will try not to jump on the scale again until a week or two later so I don’t freak myself out again..
P.S. I also incorporate intermittent fasting…
Okay but how long will this “weight gain” last? A few weeks?
Thank u because I’ve been working hard and the scale went up 2 pounds after training and lifting
I’ve been struggling immensely with my weight the past couple years. I was always bigger as a teen but when I was 21, I became thin from “starving myself” as my relatives called me out with, but in reality, all I did UNKNOWINGLY was intermittent fasting! I would eat my last meal at 7pm and wouldn’t eat until 10am! I had my insulin controlled and I didn’t even know it. Now I can manage easier!
i know its dumb question but am confuse please tell me if i got pain in my theigh,Arm or hip after workout? what does it means? because people normally build muscle of their arm after gym and they also have some pain after workout so am i doing the same thing i got pain in theigh, Arms and hip so am i loosing fat r gaining muscle etc i dont knw???
When I started working out I was 126, been working out every day for almost three weeks and I’m at 140. I hope it goes down! I’ve never gained weight this fast before.
My weight is going up again and I’ve been cardioing and weight lifting for two months.. I went down in weight and now it’s climbing up again? I look better tho. I don’t get it.
Gave up cardio and done heavy weights this must be why I’m gaining
Great video. Sharing topics most athletics hide. You will get back to where you want to be.
I was curious what you thought about Spin and Cycling classes? I tried to search for a video but I didn’t see one so if you already did one I apologize
Damn! I thought I was doing something wrong haha…. awesome good to know
I started lifting (in addition to walking which I do a lot of as I live in a big city in Japan) and I added 20 mins minimum on the cardio machine each workout as well as some stretching. Ideally I do it once every two days, although if something happens and I absolutely cannot get in there on the second day I go in on the third. I am also getting better at reading my body as I work with preschoolers which is a more active job than most people and I need to have a functioning body for them. I def feel healthier and stronger and can see gains in my flexibility. I admit that I am not doing EVERYTHING right but I’m working on the things I know I need to work on. I have successfully lost weight before and even kept it off for while (but the scale has been creeping back up in recent years) so I know what I need to do, but then again last time I also wasn’t trying to get fitter while in the process of losing weight. I was also about a decade younger. MORE ACURATELY now I can say my goal is fitness and to appear smaller, whatever the scale does (and get more into pictures and measurements with the measuring tape), but it is still frustrating to jump on the scale and see only a very small amount of weight loss and that it hasn’t shifted much since the first two weeks. Still I’ve decided to stay motivated by how much stronger and more flexible I feel and just try to keep eating well and in a way that I know should work for me. I’m also now measuring my oil as admittedly that was a place I was faltering before: ) I just need to continue to trust in my body and the process and not get easily discouraged by one single number on one device, which isn’t telling me the whole story anyways.
Hi, I just started a keto diet. The reason I did was I am a type 2 diabetic, I am over weight and not happy about it. I just saw my doctor a week ago and my A1c was 8.6. All he wanted me to do was take more insulin. I went home and thought about it and figured out on my own that it seemed I was going in the wrong direction. So what you have said in this video is exactly where I have been for a long time. It sucks. Usually when I get to work I would have a banana and coffee with cream and lots of sugar. Now I have green tea and a grapefruit or a pear. Thanks for your video’s, I can do this.
I got injury at work a few days ago. I think it’s a over worked muscle in my arm. Its painful. last week I weight in at 126.5 this week I’m 129. Does a injury works the same way as sore muscles?
I’m like 15 ponds heavier been lifting heavy for like a month tho my clothes seems to fit tighter and i have not been eating bad tuna chicken avocado protein:/
This is where I’m at, lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks, then lost 7 lbs in 8 days after cardio, lifting small weights8-10 lbs, and 10 min kettlebell 15 lb workout, and seemed to gain 5 lbs over night. Ugh been there for a few days. It really sucks. But I’m doing Keto, and feeling good, my clothes still fits okay but it’s still quite dissappointing!
I think this was happening to me. Last month I really started eating carefully and began going to the gym again. I quickly lost a few pounds, but then overnight gained it back. My weight stayed steady, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on because I was doing everything right.
I needed this. Doing everything right, and feel stuck. I will stick with the training program and trust the process. Thanks for the video:)
When I’m not working out I can pretty much eat anything and not gain weight. I have started CrossFit 3 weeks ago and I have gained 5 pounds I’m freaking out. I am eating more though I feel hungry like a lion after my workouts. And that’s why for years I never stick to the program coz it always happens and I give up. I usually drop what a gain when I quit working out, this time I’ll stick to the plan, I will have to start a restricted diet I guess. I never been able to diet I am a very hungry person I’m not fat I’m 5,8 140 pounds after the 5+ I gained but I hate my body now after my baby it just looks weird full of fats on weird areas.
Doms explanation that makes sense! Hallelujah you save my life. I get Doms and it gets me down. I just wish there were more ways to treat it that rest ice etc.
Ok good to know because I weigh around 140 and I pick up you gym meso workout and I’ve been doing it for a week and a day so far and I hopped on the scale and it read 146.8 and I freaked out lol but then I found this and I think that’s what has been happening becuse I eat clean and I’ve been following that and have been so sore the day after each workout so thnx
You should try to get in contact with David Goldman (RD) the game changers movie scientist. He works with many major Leagues (nhl, nfl, nba) and top world class athletes from fighters and olympic athletes to alpinist ultra runners. Didn’t get enough of the blood work on screen to diagnose but i’m pretty sure David would agree that supplements and rest is just a bandaid approach here. The root is probably one ofautoimmune, metabolic/autophagy/ms, hormesis, thyroid function, etc. I’v seen it many times, don’t worry! you’ll be back to yourself and doing what you you love soon man!
Thanks a ton I work out for a long time I walk a mile shadow box do my shoulder excersise etc I feel sore afterwards think I lost weight and then turns out I actually gained weight
going to be super honest with you; I did some workouts yesterday night and today I weighted myself and I was 1 and a HALF kilograms heavier! I have an eating disorder past, I still struggle with my body image every single day; every single hour actually. I was so devastated when I saw the number on the scale because I eat super clean but just started to workout. I have watched millions of youtube videos about clean eating, exercising and body image problems but none of them mentioned this. I really really appreciate your words, I was so anxious earlier but now am feeling so much better. thanks and thanks again. x
I just went backwards on the scale and in inches. Been working out for about 6 months. I went from 124 lbs to 108 lbs. Also from wearing a size 9 to size 5 in jeans. This week I gained 3 lbs and went from a size 5 to a 7. I increased the incline on my treadmill to six and speed to 3.2. Before the incline was four. I noticed after working out like this for about a week my body gained weight and inches. This is so frustrating. My inches and weight we’re doing great. I read that is you workout with a higher incline it’s better for you and now I look thick. What the hell. After the workouts I did experience extreme soreness and some pain which I’m sure was due to the fibromyalgia that I have. I rested for 2 days and started working out again. Not sure if I should rest for more days before I start up again. My eating habits have not changed. I hope I start to go down again. I hope I’m not bulking up because of the incline. I hope this is just temporary. So sad.
Great information! Yep! When I first started working out, I bloated up & gained 4 to 5 pounds… but I was also not watching my calories that much. It went away after week 4 or 6 for me.
Thank you so much for explaining this. You madame feel better now that I know this. You are awesome.
This is me all day!:( Keto doesnt work well anymore either, glucose is great in keto but thats it. Thyroid sucks.
So I started doing squats and pushups a couple days ago and went up 4 lbs!!!! Granted I’m not super sore as I do carry around a 20lb baby everyday. But I am also only eating 1400cals a day since I’m 5’7 and trying to drop weight, not gain it
This is so me right now. I started at 58kg and 1 1/2 weeks into training, I gained another 2kg. I just laughed as I thought I should be losing weight. Now it makes much more sense. I’m gonna continue my workouts and weigh again after 1 month. Thanks for the vid!
This is THE FIRST VIDEO I’ve seen address this!!! Holy mackerel I thought I was crazy! Everyone said I was just not reducing my calories enough or not doing enough cardio! Im so glad you pointed out that others have experienced a gain after a couple of weeks. This is exactly what has made me quit after a few weeks on a new program. Thankfully this time I ignored the scale and decided to focus on consistency and muscle gain. I have renewed motivation… Thanks Christine!
I gained 14 pounds in 2 weeks. I no longer have a scale….or a wall.
good to know! been lifting heavy and eating betterand feeling betterbut busted a pair of jeans when I sat down the other day
Thanks for the vid! Can you please make that video about muscle soreness. Specifically why you can be sore & not make gains and why soreness is not an accurate means to measure exercise effectiveness.
i gained weight while at maintenance currently wanting to build muscle, while maitaing a low body fat i am following the keto diet and had decided to lower my calories which is my fat intake to about 100 is this a good approach
I think it’s great that you are being so transparent. A couple of things that have come to my mind: first, how were all those things tested? Blood or urine (or another method)? Blood is usally more accurate, so if this was via urine, maybe get your blood checked again. Second, have you thought about consulting a certified nutritionist (who so far has not been affiliated with you to really get an objective opinion)? I am not sure these low levels can only result from your training in 2017. Instead, maybe have a look at your current nutrition, maybe also get checked for any allergies. And third, I am not sure all those supplements are really useful. Again, a nutritionist might be of great help here. A well-balanced diet should technically supply you with all the things you need, unless you really do have food allergies. Hope you can get this sorted out and feel better soon.
I need help I was 183 and i want to be 168. I started by eatting healthy and lowering how much I eat and drinking alot alot alot alot of water. Within 24 to 72 hours I gained damn near 6lbs. I hope this is what i am going through. I was sore after my workout to the point i couldn’t bend over due to abs hurting. Let me stay motivated and don’t give up.
I’d love to hear a video on being sore after workouts! I sometimes feel like if I’m not sore then I didn’t work hard enough!
I’ve been in a caloric deficit and working out almost everyday for 3 weeks and I haven’t dropped any weight but I have lost inches. That’s what’s kept me motivated. It’s good to take measurements and pictures to track your weight loss.
I’ve been trying to go to the gym more than 2 a week, maybe 2 times in morning before work (20-30 min cardio) and 2 times after work for strength exercise. What do you suggest? How to arrange these during the week? Ps trying to slim down and I hit the plateau
I’m a regular gym goer 3-4 week and I’ve been on Keto for about 8 weeks and I also do IF for 18hrs fasting to 6 hours eating window. I’ve lost some weight around my belly but want more. I’m 6’3” with 40” waist. Few questions: was diagnosed with inactive thyroid and was prescribed 100mcg of levothyroxine a day which I take daily after my fasting period ends. After a further half hour I can eat. Q1 is the levothyroxine or this high dose interfering with my weight loss is it preventing it as it controls my metabolism? Q2 I’ve been going through everything I consume after eliminating most carbs I feel that I am in ketosis with the benefits of being in ketosis you describe but I have found traces of sugar in things like turkey rashers. Kefir also sunflower oil in the D3 and coq10, and omega 3-6-9 supplements I take, so Q2 do I need to eliminate all traces of sugar and all these unhealthy oils in my supplements if I want to maximise burning more body fat? I don’t count calories as I’m not a massive eater and I only eat twice a day and don’t snack at all. I try and eat whole foods eggs, turkey, chicken, mushrooms salads etc. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for the honesty! Keep it up and listen to the body. You will be back at it before you know it.
I,shed 50 pounds with weight watchers (that’s the subscription fee )
Your dogs are SOOOOO cute! That little face in the back distracted me with cuteness.
I need to schedule a consultation. I haven’t lost any weight since beginning my program in 12 weeks. I do cardio 5 days a week, strength training 3 days a week. my macros are close and I have 25 pounds to lose so i should be seeing something.
Thanks for the video.
It’s unreal. I’ve been doing IF and low carb plus cardio weight training. How the hell is the scale going up and staying the same
I always thought it was because the muscle is heavier..never though about muscle retention…
I walked 100km in 1 week
Aprox 15km a day
And i was in very strict diet
And still didn’t lose any weight
Question: I just started working out for the first time in a loooong time and in just TWO days I’ve gained 7 pounds?! I weigh myself everyday at the same time of the day and I know my scale isn’t broken bc I used my moms and it said the same thing, also I do keep track of my ovulation timings and I don’t typically gain weight at this time, anyway what I’m asking is if it’s even possible to gain that much water weight over that period of time
I’m here because I do the 16:8 and I lift mostly but I also do daily walks at least 30 to an hour a day. I cook and eat healthy as well. I get compliments but the scale says otherwise. Frustrating. I know muscle weighs more but I was expecting a super metabolism boost that will also make me drop to the index chart weight for my height.
It’s been a month now and still stuck…. with good eating, cardio and weight trying but I’ve notice some inches off but why do the fat start chiming off im going on my 6th week trying sooo what now
Can’t believe you took 8 and sum minutes to get to the reasons why
I started exercise a few weeks ago and i measured my weight and I saw I had gained 3 kg weight….I was very discouraged….but after seeing your video I am felling pretty much good ☺️
Thanks for the video. With this lockdown I was, am still over training. Just trying to get time past so i am training. So i need to tap down. Thanks for all the good advice.
Are you familiar with OrangeTheory fitness? It is a heart rate based work out that claims 24-36 hours in the ‘after burn zone’ will result with a high impact work out. Your video claims we have about 3 hours in the afterburn zone?
I’m watching this while eating
So Dr. Dan which foods do we cut down or avoid which won’t trigger the insulin in our bodies l?
You are lacking discipline, refocus, get off your ass and get back into shape. You can do this!
As Graeme Obree once said, “you cannot over train, but you can under recover”
Also consider TRT, it works.
So eat less carbs, less fats, and low calorie diet plus run for an hour got it

Dear Christine, I have a question for you and Im so hopeful you will see it and answer me. Im recovering from anorexia, and lastly got my permission to get back to my sport regimen which includes walking and sometimes light running (only on negative incline lol). I started to do that, I go for 2 hours walk 3 days a week and I have a beautiful road trip. The problem is, that sometimes when I wake up the morning after, usually after combining some running, my whole body gets swollen like a balloon. My legs had changed their appearance, my belly feels hurt and full of fluids, even my face. Im all hurt, sore, and suffering from medium edema as I press on my ankle and marks are staying for seconds. I drink a lot of water, and try to sleep well, but the problem doesnt seem to be solved. Its been a month of training and as I do it I really enjoy it, but suffer from the after consequences. Do u have any idea if something that I do is wrong here? What does it setm from? How long will it take for my body to adjust to this sport and to my muscles to rebuilt. Could it be from a lack of protein maybe? (I dont think I consume enough protein for a day) or from the fact that my potassium level is a bit low? (Struggling with hypokalemia situation but taking Ultra K and its getting better)
I really suffer here since the sport helps my anxiety and mood, but my body image is getting worse…
Much appreciate! Thank u!
This guy know nothing about weight lose just stay under your calories dip shit
I’m taking off the winter pounds as i ate a lot at christmas this year! LOL.. doing keto and swimming… so THIS IS PERFECT!!!!:) But I’m a lazy keto after the first week… it’s just to get my mind back off those crazy sugars! I just have to get my rhythm back! Yup… simple as possible. My body loves less carbs and and sugars… great explanations. Good reminders for me. Thanks! Elizabeth
Check out the weimar institute to help you get your body back on track health wise.
We are all stuck with our body’s biological system until we can invent nanobots
I hate judgemental people act like people who are chubby are lazy I have been put on a medication that made me gain 30 pounds in two weeks it was horrible it caused me to have stretch marks and made it harder to get around before that I was a healthy weight and always was bu i cant stand judgemental people who act like being fat means your lazy I get out everyday I walk at least 6-12 miles a day just regularly and sometimes hit the track for a run and calisthenics it’s definitely not easy but since I have been trying to lose took me about 3 years now to keep off 24 ponds still going I think my body is losing it slowly but it’s good because it can adjust to the weight loss that way instead of losing it all at once and gaining way more back because your body goes into starvation mode and hides calories like crazy if you do it too extreme
I went from being completely sedentary to working out so this makes sense thanks
This is so comforting. I’m not exactly a “beginner” but I am in the way that I always start a tough workout routine and feel that soreness but then don’t workout nearly as hard again for like a week or 2 so I never stay consistent enough to see the water retention phase go away because I’m one of those “scale obsessed” unfortunately lol (trying to change that) so that’s why I looked up why I’m gaining weight when starting over again. I will take your advise and keep going despite the scale going up:)
Hi…just found you tonight. I am finding your videos very informative. I am only starting to learn about insulin resistance and it’s negative impact on weight loss. I have been dieting since I was 12 years old ( my Mom started me) and at 62 I am at my highest weight. Throughout my life, I did succeed on some diets sometimes but the weight always came back. A year ago I did have good results on a keto diet but then regained the weight plus more. At this time I am frustrated, upset and I am scared…yes scared! I am only 5 ft tall and my body is keeping on gaining no matter what I do. I am a retired nurse (think lots of night shifts) and I do have hypothyroidism but I am maintained on Synthroid. My next stop is to buy a very powerful vacuum and some tubing and start doing my own liposuction!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL Taren. I appreciate the candidness, it makes your vlog exceptional. You’re also a hard guy not to like. But how many times can you complain about bad blood test results and continue with the “keto plus a tonne of supplements” approach? Jesus. How about a diet supported by mainstream dietary research?
Too much of unnecessary talking instead of coming to the point
Man…I gotta make poop. Ain’t gone in 2-days. Colon blow is on the menu for breakfast if softeners don’t kick in by then. THEN…they are soo hard, it clogs the GD toilet. It’s a workout doing the plunger until the line is clear. What a circus…right? lol
Still looking fit Taren! Everyone goes through fluctuations and sharing the truth makes me respect you more. The only pressure to look pro-fit is the pressure you put on yourself. Take care of yourself, and look forward to seeing you being comfortable in your skin no matter if its race season, off-season, or donut season 😉
I literally lost years until figure out that insuline matters and not the calories.with keto diet finally I´ve lost 17 kg (37 pounds) a few years ago.I really appreciatte your channel dr.
I stuck to the calories I should be having to be my healthy weight and run 5 k every other day and none of what you said happened, I lost weight to where I should be so as long as you actually stick to it you WILL lose weight
I’m not on a diet but trying to eat healthier and exercising I’m losing weight it’s just slow. I lost 12 pounds but I’m still 34 pounds overweight
1st….I’m not overweight, but I’m just very interested in what’s right and wrong. Its easy as you say for some to say just do this or just do that. However, it’s not always straight forward and in my opinion, you have to make your own mind up as to what is the right decision. That’s where it becomes difficult to choose, coz you feel like, am I going to do more damage than good. Also that they say avoid stress as it raises cortisol, but you can stress yourself by worry of that correct choice. After watching many videos on this subject, I’m confident what you say is 100% correct. I also liked your slower and clear explanation in simple, easy to understand ways.
My thoughts are, if you are worrying that you may be doing the wrong thing by changing something, ask yourself something.
1. Have you been doing the same thing for years. As example,if u have pretty much lived on sugar for 10, 20, 30+ years, then would it be really that bad seeing if anything changes with something different in just 1 year.? I mean you have stressed your body for possibly 30+ years, so what’s a 1 year or months test gonna harm.? If you feel something terrible, then listen to your body and stop.
2. Are you overweight, in pain, always tired, etc.? Well clearly a change is a good option, as the option you have chose to this day has gave you these issues. So ignoring it is just burying your head in the sand and just hoping for a magic cure.
I mean if your car was playing up, sounding dodgy, would you get it looked at fixed or wait for something to go…….BANG.
your life is more important than anything, as it’s not as simple as saying….oh well……I’ll pop to the shops and buy another.
I subscribed and wish you and everyone else all the best.
This helped!! I gained 2 kgs randomly while working out and was wondering what’s happening. Thank youuuuu. I’ll keep going.:)
Do me a favour and cut that awful loud introduction noise. I have to turn the volume off.
I wasted 11 minutes of time to find out that this was an introduction to another video.
I don’t think I’m alone in wondering where a regular joe should start looking to find out their mitochondrial and nutritional marker?
Well, most of the time this is untrue. People underestimate what they eat and don’t succeed. Then they use videos such as this one to keep from hating on themselves.
If I eat a potato then does my body think that I am stranded in the planet Mars with nothing but potatoes to eat? Didn’t know our brain is that stupid
Ugh, this is me right now… Total DOMS soreness… I always keep that in mind if I’m stepping on the scale
I am the one taking diet with exercise eating less & healthy but the result still my weight not even lost my weight…so very dissapointed
So why take metformin? If I’m resistant why is that bad? Wouldn’t that be good for my weight?
Fasting is by far the best and fastest way to loose body fat. It maintains your metabolism and removes the insulin problem.
Totally understand. I am training for my first triathlon. Thanks for the videos that help me keep motivated.
This explains so much! I always stopped weight training because I always stopped losing weight or gained weight whenever I started.
I wish I could tell my brain my net worth and what my pantry looks like…
Found your channel today. Subscribed. That’s me you are talking about.
IF helps hormones & insulins ( low levels better) which in turn will help you keep your body weight in check…im in that boat now…losing weight takes alot of time esp when your body wants to hold on to it…im trying carb recycling & eating more protein…just keep trying things out..
that was me!!! I was doing all the “right things”. I was eating healthy, exercising A LOT! I struggled to continue to lose weight after losing the first 5kg.
On 22 May 19, I weighed around 72 kg. I am around 166 cm, 5ft 6 inches.
I had a paunch which was unseemly. Got on to intermittent fasting by having my dinner at 1845 hrs( 0645 PM).Started on 01 Jun 19.
I used to have breakfast at 0740 before leaving for office. Roughly fasted for 13 hrs.
Used to exercise by walking for 01 hr everyday either in the morning or evening.
Today on 23 May 20, my weight is 63 kg. I have lost 09 kg over a year.
Be consistent. You can lose weight.
You say calorie restriction is bad and will slow down your metabolism…..but in other videos you talk of the benefits of fasting. What is the difference?
This isn’t true. Research finds this is unfounded. People in 3rd countries are SKINNY!
This video is such a waste of time, calorie restriction like this will only trigger starvation mode if you’re Severely limiting your food intake. The reason your weight loss plateus is because your bmr has changed, meaning you need to re-evaluate your calorie deficit. Just keep at it, weight loss is slower the more weight you lose.
omg thanks for the video. you have explained how insluin works in few minutes. in last 10 min i learned so much. thanks for sharing the knwoledge.
thats an over simplification of insulin’s role tho. it stores glucose as fat…yes but also into your liver and muscle tissue as well. This is a god approach for some people who lead a sedentary life, but for athletic people, can be very misinforming. Ketosis CAN be affective, but is also very hard to maintain on a traditional American diet.
So glad that this has been a learning experience why we never loose weight. thanks
I’d be a bit skeptical about interpreting some of the health / metabolism markers the way you are Taren. Diets off the beaten path are bound to give numbers out of bounds. Treating the Chlostridia would help balance your neural transmitter markers.
Why people don’t use the method that actors use to lose weight to play the roles? Ask Joaquin Phoenix and Christian Bale, for example…
And what the f is this about? Your beard il shave and loose calories yippee. JUST WALK WAlk and walk the further you walk better results and diet
Haha…I feel out of shape even though I’m putting in the time. It crazy to think that being fit can still feel out of shape. I think maybe racing helps reinforce our fitness gains and when we don’t race we remain in a steady state of being. I agree everone needs to break from the heavy volume that triathlon demands. I suggest occasionally choosing one sport and training only that discipline. I backed off of tri and did just trail runs for a while. It seemed to allow for some enjoyment in training while still keeping a level of fitness so I could return to triathlon with ease.
I’m going to invent an instant Insulin counter and measure indicator, fitness watch.
“Eating healthily” or “healthy eating”……grammar is still important In the first case “eating” is a verb representing the act of eating and should be modified by the adverb “healthily”. In the second case “eating” is a noun representing that which is eaten and should be modified by the adjective “healthy”. “Eating healthy” is wrong since it uses an adjective to modify a verb. Why can’t the English teach their children how to speak? It seems to be currently fashionable to be illiterate.
THANK YOU so much for making this video. I literally fail everytime because im so hung up on the scale. I wreck shop in the gym, measure and prep each meal so when i see the scale shoot up I back off and fall off track. Not now. Not this time.
So going into a low calorie diet causes your body to go into “self protection” mode……I get that but how does going into a NO CALORIE diet (for an extended time as in intermittent fasting) not cause the same thing? I don’t see how your body would know that you’re intermittent fasting either. Wouldn’t your body want to conserve energy there as well? It seems that the idea is that “eating makes you hungry” and “not eating makes you not hungry”.
During Corona i lost 22 pounds. Prior to that i lost 87 pounds. And now 2-3 weeks after i started working out again i started to gain weight! Up to almost 10 pounds!
I have diabetic type 2 last 10 ys my age 40 now i start low carb 16/8 my sugar levels back to normal no i reduce my medicine as well still i not start keto full thanks
I’ve gained about 7 pounds in 2 weeks and I’m super upset. Hoping it drops like you said
Your information is superb Dr Dan Maggs.. thanx a million times.
I’m trying to get to a place where weight loss does not encompass my entire life.
So I have to stop working out or keep going?? I HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT!!!
I’m going to keep commenting this on all of your videos. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ADJUST THE MUSIC LEVEL IT IS WAY TOO LOUD
Absolutely true. I’ve used willpower to lose weight (e.g. 40 and 60 lbs.) but eventually I stopped losing weight even after calorie cut after calorie cut. Your body does have regulatory mechanisms, so food is not like putting gas in a gas tank where it just goes down as you run around. It is more like getting a paycheck. If your paycheck goes down 25% you find a way to lower your spending 25% (voluntarily or not). So I eventually doubled the calories that I had cut in half after my diet stopped producing results. I now gained weight back even faster with my new efficient metabolism! I call this dieting up your weight. I had toast and hashbrowns with breakfast for decades. I now recognize this as a carbohydrate bomb. I thought that was good healthy, basic food (food pyramid) and the omelette with eggs, meat and cheese was the rich, fatty diet killer. I had it backwards. Now that I have a low carb diet I am controlling my blood sugar and insulin. Weight loss is much easier. I guess we will see how the end of diet goes, but I am not going back to a high carb diet.
Yep! I always swell a bit 1-2 days after heavy lifting/climbing!
Great video! I’ve been filling keto and have improved my glucose/insulin levels!
Because I’ve been a sloth for past 2 years following divorce. What’s unreal is how I’ve retained most of all the muscle I had put on. Thank God.
Thanks for this video I started walking 5 or more miles a day 3 and a half weeks ago and I’ve gained 6lbs I just can’t understand it
Thanks for sharing I’m going through the same right now. Lost my menstrual cycle through overtraining (nice for us girls to have a sign I suspect this may have happened to you long ago!) have gained about 30lbs and not feeling great about it but know it’ll be for the best in the long run. You’re doing the right thing!
This is one of the reasons I love the Team Trainiac platform. I can benefit from the wisdom you gained making the mistakes so I don’t have to. Quality, science based training that helps me progress and keeps me injury free.
im 16 and during quarantine ive been working out insanely. ive been working out for 3 weeks and eating healthy and I just started drinking half a gallon-a gallon of water daily in hopes to lose weight. instead I went from 163 pounds to 169 pounds in a week. I dont understand why this is happening and im extremely discouraged and I just cried about this because I am so disappointed with myself. I need help lets put it that way. my goal is 145-150 pounds and nothing is happening. help me please lol
You have a Chlostridium botulinum infection in your stomach? Shouldn’t you be dead? I have to say that does make me wonder about how legit this doctor is.
Good job being open about it. I’m going through overtraining myself at the moment. Symptoms are fatigue and elevated systolic blood pressure. I had too many anaerobic efforts and not enough rest days. Rest is the prescribed solution. 6 weeks in and I’m getting better. Might try some light yoga soon:D
Taren, this is the best video that you have posted yet!! You are more my hero now than before…I commend your courage to get vulnerable, and expose your body, extra fat and all. Thanks for being so candid about over-training, and encouraging us to balance our physical efforts with the mental and emotional parts of our lives.
Hay mate,
Great video. We all have ups n downs its great to see people acknowledging it.
I think now with the current state of the world it is a great time to reassess our lives & make better choices for ourselves, our loved ones our community & the planet.
Get better stay safe.
Cheers Daniel
It is so freaking important for us natural athletes to have at least 1 full day off a week! In my opinion this helps a lot!!
Hi Taren! You say you’re eating healthy but judging from your test results you’re doing something wrong. I’d simply focus on the gut if I were you. Avoid any processed stuff (including supplements) and focus on eating a whole-food plant-based diet. You might also want to get a checkup for food allergies.
Take it easy brother, heal yourself, this is the best thing you can do, take care of your mind, body and soul! Be happy! ❤️❤️
Symptoms like these could also be caused by hypothyroidism. I’m no doctor nor am I trying to diagnose Taren (who likely doesn’t have it if the specialist didn’t suggest it). I’m just mentioning this in case anyone else has issues with energy, sleep, mood, etc that having your TSH levels checked isn’t a bad idea (especially if there’s a family history like mine). Of course look at a list of symptoms before racing off to your doctor though.
Keep your head up Taren. Don’t forget about your heart. Let God know what’s up and ask for help. Sometimes when it’s darkest it’s easiest to see the light.
Mathew 11:28-30 says:
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Isaiah 41:10 says: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
This happened to me too when I started a balanced diet.
After a month, the weight just fell off.
It takes 21 days to break a habit, think it applies to weight loss too.
Or it just takes about a month for your body to adjust and respond.
Trusting the process and being patient is key.
Thank you so much for posting this video! This happen to me every single time I try to lose weight and I was never able to understand. Now I get it and have the motivation to not give up:)
It is so refreshing to hear honesty! Don’t ever be embarrassed about telling the truth. Honestly this was good to hear because when you watch other people’s YouTube videos and they are always doing better and never falling it just seems unrealistic.
Definitely wouldn’t suggest that how you look now is unhealthy by any stretch of the imagination. You look normal, and that’s totally ok! Don’t shame yourself for how your body looks. You can’t be a low BMI athlete forever. Celebrate what you’ve accomplished and get excited about what you do next, regardless of your PRs and previous goals.
Glad to know you’re putting a greater emphasis on rest. It’s such low hanging fruit for many athletes and few recognize just how easy recovery days are supposed to be.
Massive thumbs up to you totally love theses videos helps so much in my training world understanding possibly my ups and downs thanks so much
Thanks Taren, I’ve struggled since last November and I agree lock down has actually been a really good reset for me. Good luck in your journey.
Dont understand why you would take all those pills. All that training but you forgot to lift weights. Start strength training, eating whole foods
Having a running channel I have felt this need to always be pushing…until this past year, I decide to be be transparent and talk about these type of issues, over training, stress and just taking care of yourself…and most important, rest. I just came off a 3 week break, I ran once and I feel great. Having channels like we do doesn’t help with these issues because of the pressure to always to “rah, rah”. Glad you are getting healthy again. All the best!
I have been lifting everyday for the last 3 months, but I’ve gained weight and I’m frustrated! My jeans are super tight and my butt is huge!! Lol. Ive always been thick in the thighs, but I want to slim down not get thicker. I’ve tried intermittent fasting and keto. I’m thinking about taking a break from lifting and juicing veggies and fruits for 7 days to lose some mass. Ugh. Annoyed!
Taren I have so much respect for you for sharing this with us and using this as a learning experience for both yourself and all of us. You do what you gotta do, you’ll always have our support
I am eating healty for 10 days The problem is I didnt lose weight I gain weight
Beautiful video that I miss a lot in the internet, just a guy explaining his miseries instead of indicating how beautiful life is regardless of reality. Congratulations. I feel pretty much in your same page and would like to do this analysis. is there any specific name of the analysis as there is a lot of info that in normal blood test are not appearing. Thanks a lot in advance
I have mix thoughts here. I think big contribution to the current statte which You ‘re in is LCHF. I tried 3 times to adopt but I could pass each time 3 week. Maybe this will be possisble with minimal amount of training or complete break. I did around 10h per week and I was bonking every second training. I left this behind and now feeling much much better. Stay healthy.
wanted to update that since I’ve been following the endomorph suggestions you made a video on, I’m finally making progress regarding scale and measurements! tracking my macros and doing lighter weights but 15-20 reps. it’s nice to eat real food and make progress.
Thank you for your honesty Taren. I am currently dealing with huge anxiety and overtraining (I think bad keto + too many miles + fasting were the main contributors). I would love to see more videos on this. I wish you full recovery soon!
Legend. New subscriber here because of this vid. Nice one man
On the other hand….it’s good I am not gaining weight. Cheers.
I’ve actually finally pushed back on the midlife bulge with…calorie deficit! That’s after years of messing with all the “new” research.
Thanks Taren for the honesty. I’m feeling the exact same way but not from overtraining as far as I can tell. Not sure why I’m experiencing this but it helps hearing I’m obviously not the only one going through a setback at the moment. Motivation and discipline are my main issues for now but I guess, as they say, admitting you have problem is the first step in resolving it. Thanks again and good luck
Really looking forward to your next vedeo. Much appreciation.
Or you know, maybe just rest up a bit and drop the stupid keto and vegsn diets?
Dr Beth, this is indeed very helpful. Can I use glucose powder in a glass of water or is there a special glucose drink I need to get.

I wonder 100 years ago where they just had real food and flyed. Maybe thats the answer. Not capsules. Go carnivore man and be health.
Hi Taren. I hope you are well and get to where you want to be. Thank you for such an honest post, it is hard to be vulnerable. I wish you continued success on your journey and say “Thank You” for helping me with mine. All I can offer for advice is to be thankful every morning when your feet hit the ground; Life is for the Living. Be safe, be healthy, be happy.:)
I am sure you’ve considered this, but do you think that your low carb approach could also be contributing? It can help initially with improving body composition but can also have adverse affects for certain people who do it for long periods of time.
Taren-thank you for your honesty. Get healthy and take care of you. You are an inspiration to me and so many no matter what you “look like”. Looking forward to following your journey back to being a bad ass.
Awesome, honest, and inspiring video! We are all off our game of life right now. Take care and great luck on your health and training.
I find your videos extremely interesting and informative! I really want to go low carb but as a vegetarian I don’t know how. I’m going to get sick of eggs for breakfast every day. Breakfast ideas are an issue for me. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you ☺️
Thanks for your honesty, Taren! Take the time you need and thanks for sharing. Sending you big love and support, dude.
I’ve gained 5 pounds in 5 bloody days and I’m working so hard. Like I don’t want to quit but
DOMs are kicking my ass right now; it’s been 2 years since I last did something this intense and… I’m in the wilderness thanks for this video, because I’m losing inches, but the number on the scale has been going up by 4 lbs every day I’m going to push through this. It’s so scary, because these are the biggest numbers I have ever seen.
I was in a similar place!!!! Now back on track and 10 kilos less!!! Might even do challenge daytona this year!
Thamks for your openness and honesty. I’m sure you’ll come back stronger and faster; iust enjoy your days off and dream about how amazing a “wiser” Triathlon Taren will do!
How about taking a quick break from social media as well?.. It’s kind of stressful too maintaining content for the subscribers…
Thank you for the logic information. I am about to give up on my diet and exercise right now. My body weight very fluctuate recently. Sometimes down 2 kg,sometimes gain 2 kg in just 1 week. And yes i gain weight especially when i try new weight training program. I am sad and stress about this fluctuation. But thanks for explaining this. Now i am motivated again and want to workout again.. Patience is the key..
suck it up man, learn from each fall and get rid of all that shitty supplements. Natural-Organic is the way to go. Use this opportunity to fall in love again with the sport enjoying it and not being slaved of the numbers. Once we got released from the Strava/Garmin or whatsoever ego, you actually start seeing it from a different perspective.
Watch some Vids from Goggins, Lawrence, Sanders, John Joseph etc, they never quit! keep the head up my friend!
As a runner now evolving into a triathlete, I’ve experienced overtraining. I also experienced a knee surgery that involved 6 months of no training!! The comeback from that was one of the most rewarding processes of my life. I never condemn anyone for taking a period to heal and recuperate. Thanks for the honesty Tarenwe are cheering you on!
Hey bro! Don’t feel too bad. I’ve gained weight too since backing off of training recently. But the truth is I needed to take a break because I was getting worn out from tri training and an uptick in work/parenting demands. If you back off training and still try to train somewhat and keep eating the calories you did, boom weight gain. Sumo wrestlers are actually healthy until they stop training. Then they either have to cut back the calories drastically or they will shortly die of a heart attack or whatever because of the unopposed calories.
Thanks for your honesty and keeping it real! We all go through ups and downs, and you deserve to take recovery time just like everybody else does. So grateful for your contributions to the sport and inspiring regular folks like me to compete. Wishing you the best!
For those not aware, “functional medicine” is quackery and pseudoscience. Google it. Anyone that tells you your mitochondria aren’t working needs to also explain how you’re alive enough to sign the cheque for their useless supplements.
Taren, everything you said I’ve also experienced. Your attitude is awesome! Also, LOTS of rest and yes, supplements, will get you back on track. Just don’t go too deep too quickly. Previous tough rides, the kind that might take 1-2 days to recover, would now take you a week or more to recover from. TRUST ME!! It has taken me 2 years to get back to par from this mistake, and I’m highly dedicated as you.
I been getting it to weight full body training more and I used to weigh 137 now I weigh 140 is it because I gaining more muscle
Don’t ever be embarassed to be genuine and real.. but from my experience throwing money into the billion dollar supplements industry only screws up our physiology more… there is nothing to replace a Whole Foods Plant Based diet. Nature knows best all the best of luck!
Taren. Your talking boll**ks. EAT and fuel. Those supplements are garbage
Get your act together Taren. We all need you and look for inspiration… but your making excuses and not getting a good steak down you to shake up the testosterone
Let’s face it… vegan diet is rubbish!! Look at Lionel Saunders.. it wrecked his body. Eat proper Taren and eat and good protein!!
I seriously think your story might’ve saved hundreds of us from going through the same thing.
Thank you for being brave enough to be honest, Taren!
Taren, Thank You for your transparency! All the more reason to respect you. And I can totally relate. After IM Wisconsin in 2016, for which training was a struggle, then a marathon 2 months later, followed by a hysterectomy a month after that, I have battled fatigue ever since. I have spent thousands of dollars on homeopathic treatments, been to multiple doctors chased the idea of chronic Epstein Bar around…have had to limit my activity to mostly walking, but walking hills, and especially during quarantine walked 4-7 miles, 6 days/week. Overtraining is serious, and finding that fine line of enough activity/too much is tricky! Thank You Taren (and Kim!!) for all you do to benefit the triathlon community. May you heal from the inside out, and may your best days still be to come.
you said carbohydrates aren’t necessary but what about vitamins? Like C and the Bs all tend to come with fruits generally. While raspberries, blackberries… are really low carb up to a point, is that enough?
Health first! I’m glad you are focusing on health instead of pushing yourself more. We will still be with you!!!
My last 48hrs of fasting was not successful. I need to lose.8 to reacg my goal of 55kls. But what happen was I didn’t lose from my 48hrs of fasting. Unlike from previous fasting I lose.5 or 7.
Just confused why I’m LCIF OMAD.
Thanks a lot for this video! For me the whole thing was a mystery and you explained it well, thanks
Love the honesty. The culprit is your diet. Plain and simple. Dump Dan Plews and start eating healthy. This LCHF/Keto stuff will (already has) hurt you. Seems amazing short term but it’s not sustainable over the long run. My $0.2 cents.
Thank you for this info! I was watching my macros very closely, exercising more than ever before, and I feel like I’m thicker around the waist and I feel like I look like I’ve put on some. This is so encouraging, I will continue with what I’m doing. It’s only been a week of super strict diet and exercise.:) my muscles aren’t aching anymore, but they were two days ago.
Thank you for your answer!! I’m 43 male weight was 196. Now that I’m working out I’m 202 lbs. like wt? Eating right no soda etc…yes I’m sore I’m hurting. Former US Marine and wrestler!! Thank you Ma’am your the best
Thanks for sharing. The truth is, you weren’t healthy before… you were just more fit. Being healthy and being fit are not the same. Being able to push your body past its limits does not mean your body is healthy, it just means you are mentally tough enough to push through the pain. My biggest problem is exactly what you’ve described… always thinking I have to go harder with every workout and seeing off-days as a step backward. It’s an unhealthy way to train. Videos like this help because I see I’m not alone. Keep up the great work. You’ve earned a new sub!
And this is why I became i follower in the first place, you’re honest with yourself and your followers. Thank you for posting this! And best of luck on your journey!
Jesus just as you thought he finally wisened up over the years 10:20 happened.
Overtraining is a vital issue for all kinds of training. Sometimes, a mental shift to long-term strategy (“I want to be out there when I’m 90 years old, so don’t get injured/overtrain) helps me. If I push it too far, am I going to mentally or physically last?
Respect bro.
The best is yet to come
What kind of test is it to get these numbers u showed?
Can you just add a little coconut water to your water while working out instead of doing it at the 30-minute mark?
Dr Dan, would you consider doing a video on keto weight loss and prescribed medication please? I’m currently taking amityrtaline, citalopram, mirtazepam, diazepam and zopiclone.
Taren. Really appreciate your honesty and openness and why I admire you as human. I’m so glad you posted bc I’ve seen by so many top age groupers having careers cut short due to injury, burnout. Overtraining is such big issue. I’m guilty of following and posting big miles, watts and admiring Lionel Sanders type of workouts to the detriment of ones overall health. I use to be what Coach Dixon called, “fit but fatigued”. Z2 and Maffetone has literally saved my career. My only recommendation is you seem to reliant on supplements, perhaps that might also have negative impact. Supplements like training needs need balancing so good for your to detox and start with new balance.
