i vouch for this! every time i protein binge, i still lose 1-2 lbs the next day. that is if i dont eat carbs with it. but when i eat less, i just maintain my weight. maybe my body is in starvation mode. but yeah it’s just a bit expensive because protein is expensive.
I watch your videos all the time, i have been in Keto for a year, but then it became too hard to keep up with it around my family, i am more focused on healthy vegetables and less carbs but not under 20g daily, i have one question and i hope you answer, coz i looked around and heard most of your videos, i start with blood glucose of 94 after 12H fast and then i eat a meal (with carbs) and after 60m it drops down to 79 which is weird, then i measure at 120m and it is 92, is that normal or i have some kind of a problem, and would you consider that a stable glucose level, i hear all the time about keeping glucose levels stable and then weight loss will be more efficient as insulin levels will be stable, what is considered stable +-10 or or +-20. You seem like nice guys and obviously you are very dedicated! Respect. I just wish you guys would also regard promoting a plant based bodybuilding diet. I know your goal is to get big and shredded. But as you (Paul) are a father too, you maybe are also interested in getting big, shredded and at the same time reducing the harm we cause on other living beings and preserving the planet for further generations. 😉 All those protein sources you are promoting cause unimaginable suffering and also are destructive to our environment. I don’t know if this is the best paper to support your point. I read the paper (because I’m a nerd) and from what they say it doesn’t seem like the low carb group increased their protein to compensate like Stephen says they do. In the results it says the two groups started out with a habitual daily percentage of protein intake of 18±5% and 22±9% and that these values did not significantly decrease in either group at the end of 8 weeks. It also says that habitual protein intake was not significantly different between groups at any point in the study. Also, the groups both had changes in percent body fat, but the change in body fat between groups was not significantly different. The main conclusion of the paper is that you can get a significant reduction in weight and % body fat in 8 week regardless of if you restrict carbohydrates. This kind of contradicts what you’re saying in the video. Please correct me if I’m wrong, it’s totally possible I missed something when I read through it.

I am curious about excess protein intake. I have a friend who started the paleo diet and she has been experiencing painful stomach cramps. My thinking is that as she eats a lot of animal protein, this could be a contributing factor as excess meat is difficult for the body to digest. I also read that too much protein can increase uric acid in the blood (which can cause joint pain), and that it can put stress on the pancreas from releasing extra hormones to complete the breakdown of amino acids. Lastly, I’ve discovered that meat consumption with little plant protein can lead to gallstones. Does not seem to make sense, all consumed the same amount of surplus calories, gained the same amount of fat but the higher protein group gained more muscle as well, it does not add up, how could they also have gained the same amount of fat whilst protein took up more % of the total surplus and did not contribute to fat gain?

I weigh 155 and lift 4 times a week. Hard time gaining lean mass, thought in a previous video he had said if you go over 0.8g protein/lb body weight it would rough on your kidneys or something along those lines. So have I been struggling to gain mass all year just because I’m at like 95g/day instead of 150g?

As I know protein may convert to glucose in only one pathway called gluconeogenesis and this process occur only when the body doesn’t have any other sources of glucose which means all glucose that been converted from protein will be used and will not be stored as fat, is that right?

I stumbled upon your channel recently after going on a keto craze. ive never had weight issues (ive been 5’8″ and never weighed more than 140 pounds my whole life) but i have come to find that carbs wreak havoc on my energy levels and cause a lot of brain fog. being that my metabolosim is super fast, do you think its a big deal if im consuming higher amounts of protein than on a regular diet? as i continue to improve upon my keto diet, im only concerned about the quantity and quality of protein i take in because i dont want it to get converted to sugar/carbs and make me crash.

I get what you are saying about protein not turning to fat, but on the other hand, I’ve read that excess protein will stimulate mTOR which prohibits cellular cleansing causing all kinds of problems. Mercola gets into it pretty deep in his book “Fat For Fuel”

I’ve been about 90% carnivore for the past 3 months, and just trusting in the process. But I’ve been so confused/concerned about the sheer amount of protein I’m putting down. I add fat anywhere I can, but gram for gram, the fat gets dwarfed by the protein.

Interesting. My doctor actually recommends a low carb high protein high veggie diet after keto takes me to my goal weight. I thought that excess protein can go to clog up the kidneys. I guess that worry was unfounded.

Good vid TD: Nice to hear you talk about such an important macro that primarily comes from animal products. I think comparing and contrasting the different types of meat would be nice, for as you well know not all animal products are created equal. Such as the nutritional differences between red meat, poultry, pork, and fish. I personally from a nutritional standpoint think a person gets the most health benefit from eating the right types of fish and chicken. Beef isn’t bad but in moderate amounts and not everyday. I know the same could probably be said for fish, but for different reasons. Anyway just an idea. People should know what they are eating from a nutritional standpoint so that they can optimize their diet to fit their fitness goals. DEUCES!!!

I’m a type 2 diabetic, and when I fast, my liver produces sugar which is higher than normal. Should I take my insulin, and if I do, would than affect the fasting diet?
I love my shakes, found the best tasting/lowest calorie I could find and it’s like my daily “treat”. It’s a big help mentally to feel like you are having something that tastes like you shouldn’t. Also helps when I add my greens powder (taste terrible solo) and daily creatine to just knock it out. Sometimes I add a serving of PB2 (powdered peanut butter and only 35 calories) to thicken it up for a more satisfying and filling shake

Well, I’m in a weight loss journey. I lost 40 pounds. I train with weights mostly and I am aiming to keep my muscle as much as I can. So, I take protein shake after workout cause my diet normally giving me the protein I need but with workout with weights cause a slightly muscle break. I take protein powder to repair them. I’m not sure my opinion are true but the results I get is good. (For 20 pound I lost 0.66 pound of muscle)
Excess Protein is stored in the liver, excess protein goes through a deamination process, and is excreted out of the body,, recess protein converts to carbohydrate, excess protein can turn into fat, and into muscle, and a study of three groups of 8.3 people in each group seems off to me. This is way too complex of a topic to be handled with any integrity in such a brief video.

The real question is how do we turn carbs and fat into protein?
Pretty good, but not totally accurate. Nobody should “assume” that they personally can eat 3X or 4X the recommended protein intake, or 300g to 400g of protein a day. What determines or influences if an excess protein ultimately becomes a glucose or ketone? Asking because I am looking to bulk on keto. I may do targetted keto, may do strict. I currently eat 105-110 grams of protein + between 80-100g of fat (depending on exercise) on an average day.
If I increase my protein intake by 30-40g, am I at risk to being kicked out of ketosis if I don’t increase my fats?
How about BCAAS supplements and powders? Can those do the same thing as what you’re saying here?
What happens if you eat most of your fats in just one meal do that leads to fat gain?
I’m not so much concerned if too much protein turns into fat, but it does turn into carbs through gluconeogenesis, and for me that can be a real problem. I am 6’2″ 185lbs and if I get more than about 100g of protein a day, gluconeogenesis kicks in and my blood sugar (and hence my insulin) goes up, which defeats the purpose of keto for me. At the end of the day we must each do what is best for ourselves and our own goals.

I read and hear different things about it which makes it difficult. And even so, when people say it kicks in for example after 18 hours and you’re allowed to break your fast, you immediately stop autophagy because you’re actually eating…

Interesting, but I notice you choose studies that are published with quantitative and qualitative control studies with strict standards. However, I have heard you dismiss accredited studies from the same source, and similar standards like double blind masked control studies because they contradict your teachings. Once you alluded to the fact a study was bias because it didn’t agree with you.

Diet Plan known as Custokebon Secrets kept appearing here on many youtube videos and I thought they were scams. However after my cooworker follow it, and finally lost a ton of weight with it without starving herself. I’m persuaded. Don’t take my word for it, search for Custokebon Secrets on google.
Thomas, it would appear then, based on your comments in one of your other recent videos about the risks of overdoing fat on a Ketogenic diet, that it is okay to eat moderate levels of fat and protein on a low carb diet since the protein that isn’t utilized is excreted. Also, if one’s aim is to increase lean body mass would it be actually be okay to intake higher levels of protein than fat (similar to the Atkin’s diet)? Also, are the effects you’ve stated the same if you eat plant based protein (e.g. pea protein) versus protein from animals?

If anyone ever experience swelling in the joints ie toe, knee etc… and you have been eating excess protein, get tested for gout. Develops in some people who have high levels of uric acid in the blood. If you are fit and consume lots of protein, this is most likely the cause, it happen to me in my early 20s.

Protein powder is used for me because I don’t have a lot of healthy stuff in my house as the family buys junk mainly and there isn’t a lot of the necessary meats grains etc. So I use that and it helps with overall cravings and energy boosts. The supplement I use is Whey Gold standard isolates mocha. It honestly helps better and especially with cardio and I have a lot more stamina than I used to have back when I was 236 am 198. The taste of isopure powders is dependent on the flavor you choose. I find the banana mixed with the green apple to be very pleasant tasting. Also keep in mind the colder the water the better the taste, this goes for many protein powders. Some proteins just taste horrible no matter what you do.

From a scientific point of view, the average person is sustainable on even 0.8g protein / KG of bodyweight. That being said, someone who is working out and trying to build muscle mass is generally consuming about 1g protein/kg bodyweight but like you mention, even this is high. For AMDR: we want to really stay only with 10-35% of our kcals from protein.

Good take… I find if the protein drink tastes good it usually has a lot of sugar.. i.e. Muscle milk and usually if it is sold at 7 11 it is going to be way over priced. I go with a low carb protein and then add a banana or some frozen yogurt. Also adding ice will help to stimulate your metabolism so you burn more calories.

I agree that real food is always better but in my situation where I had broken my leg in two at the knee, I needed something that was going to be easy for me that had everything I needed without having to try to put together meals that contained ingredients that would help me to lose weight and also be great for muscles growth, bone throwth etc I found that having a shake for breakfast and dinner and healthy lunch helped me stick to my diet and to be honest, I’ve never felt as healthy and full as energy as I do now. I also noticed that through drinking the shakes I am not craving sweet or savoury snacks and I get full easily when eating actual meals. I’m now 57 kg my target is 50-48 kgs.so I’m vigorously doing cardio one-day Nd strength training one-day as my husband is gym trainer he will train me but I m taking basic Ghar ka Khanna also Nd I have diagonaised my self no thyroid no pcod although I’m not losing weight 7 kgs plz suggest me what to do Nd I’m taking green coffee also.
